howdy, i'm a big fan, if you don't mind me askin, how much time do you typically spend on each part of the process when making a neat toon

hard to give a solid answer because it’s rarely a single continuous process so i don’t often have an idea of how long a step takes start to finish, and it depends a lot on the toon. usually i’ll do basic outlining, writing and sketchy storyboards in one or two fits of an hour or two. Similar process with recording audio, though it’s placement in the process varies. The actual animation is just chipping away at the animation with a rate of something like one or two shots per day (depending on complexity and motivation). Usually once i’ve got everything animated and audio in, i’ll power thru the home stretch in a couple hours of editing and put it out as soon as i feel it’s finished. that’s very generalized ofc, some toons require a lot of time on a specific step- the Toontown script for example. Often i’ll put down a toon for months at a time when i feel the idea has dried up, then pick it up once i’ve found a new direction for it and finish it quickly resulting in toons like Phast Phood Phreak, Talking Heads 6, Misery 2. Some toons are also made in a pretty fluid sprint, something like Computer Etiquette is usually made in a long weekend.

tl:dr i usually get the whole idea in front of me as fast as possible in a crude form, then take as much time as i want on the actual content and animation, then assemble and put it out in a final spasm of productivity. hope that helps
