"I confess - you've caught me on this rumor, my friend. I have been know to steep some highly experimental, mayhaps even questionable, tea blends in my time. I've used fruits and nuts, herbs and spices, from across the globe - and possibly beyond! I'm always searching for that unique texture and taste!
"However, I always taste-check for reliable feedback with others before I put something on my shop's menu. Please rest assured of that!"

In the world of culinary arts, finding the perfect balance between flavor and heat can be a daunting task. Whether you are a professional chef or a home cook, the quest for that ideal marinade that can elevate your dishes is universal. Enter Seven Stars Brand Hot n Spicy Marinade—a product designed to bring bold flavors and the perfect amount of spice to your meals. This article delves into the unique attributes of this marinade, its versatile uses, and why it should become a staple in your kitchen.
The Perfect Blend of Spices and Herbs
The foundation of any great marinade lies in its ingredients. Seven Stars Brand Hot n Spicy Marinade is crafted with a meticulous blend of spices and herbs that not only enhance the flavor of your dishes but also add a delightful kick of heat. The marinade features a combination of garlic, chili peppers, paprika, and a selection of aromatic herbs that are perfectly balanced to create a harmonious flavor profile.
Garlic and Chili Peppers: These two ingredients are the stars of the show. Garlic brings a robust, savory depth, while chili peppers add that much-needed heat. Together, they form a dynamic duo that can transform any dish from bland to extraordinary.
Paprika and Herbs: Paprika adds a subtle smokiness that complements the heat from the chili peppers. The aromatic herbs, including thyme and rosemary, contribute a fragrant complexity that rounds out the flavor.
Versatility in Cooking
One of the standout features of the Seven Stars Brand Hot n Spicy Marinade is its versatility. This marinade is not confined to a single type of dish or cooking method. Here are a few ways you can incorporate it into your culinary repertoire:
Grilling: The high heat of grilling can sometimes overpower delicate flavors, but not with this marinade. Its bold flavors hold up well, making it perfect for grilled meats, vegetables, and even seafood. Marinate your chicken, beef, or tofu for at least an hour before grilling to ensure the flavors penetrate deeply.
Roasting: Roasting is another cooking method where this marinade shines. Coat your vegetables or meat with the marinade before popping them into the oven. The result is a caramelized, flavorful exterior and a juicy, tender interior.
Stir-frying: For those quick weekday meals, stir-frying with Seven Stars Brand Hot n Spicy Marinade is a game-changer. Add a splash of the marinade to your stir-fry for an instant boost of flavor and spice.
Enhancing Everyday Dishes
While the Seven Stars Brand Hot n Spicy Marinade excels in traditional cooking methods, it can also be used creatively to enhance everyday dishes. Here are some innovative ways to use this versatile product:
Sandwiches and Wraps: Spread a thin layer of the marinade on your bread or wrap for an added kick. It pairs exceptionally well with grilled chicken or roasted vegetables.
Dipping Sauce: Mix the marinade with some yogurt or sour cream to create a spicy dipping sauce for snacks like chips, nachos, or crudités.
Salad Dressing: Whisk the marinade with some olive oil and vinegar to create a unique, spicy salad dressing. It adds a delightful twist to your greens and makes your salads more exciting.
Health Benefits of Spicy Foods
In addition to its culinary merits, Seven Stars Brand Hot n Spicy Marinade also offers several health benefits due to its spicy ingredients. Here are some reasons why incorporating spicy foods into your diet can be beneficial:
Boosts Metabolism: Capsaicin, the compound responsible for the heat in chili peppers, has been shown to increase metabolism and promote fat burning.
Enhances Digestion: Spicy foods can stimulate digestive enzymes and increase gastric juices, aiding in better digestion.
Anti-inflammatory Properties: Ingredients like garlic and chili peppers have anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce inflammation in the body.
Improves Heart Health: Spicy foods can help lower blood pressure and improve circulation, contributing to better heart health.
Customer Testimonials
The true testament to the quality and versatility of Seven Stars Brand Hot n Spicy Marinade comes from those who have used it. Here are a few testimonials from satisfied customers:
Sarah T. from London: "I absolutely love this marinade! It's perfect for my summer BBQs. My friends always rave about the flavor and the perfect amount of heat."

High-Quality Craft Spirits: The Art of Artisanal Distilling
n recent years, the world of spirits has experienced a renaissance, driven by a growing demand for high-quality craft products. Craft spirits, produced by small, independent distilleries, are celebrated for their unique flavors, artisanal production methods, and commitment to quality. This article delves into the world of high-quality craft spirits, exploring what sets them apart, the diverse types available, and the key factors to consider when choosing these premium beverages.
Defining Craft Spirits
Craft spirits are typically produced by small-scale distilleries that prioritize quality over quantity. These distilleries often emphasize traditional methods, local ingredients, and innovative techniques to create unique and distinctive spirits. The craft spirit movement values authenticity, transparency, and a deep connection to the local community and environment.
What Sets Craft Spirits Apart?
Artisanal Production Methods: Craft distilleries often use time-honored, hands-on production methods. This includes small-batch distilling, where each batch is carefully monitored to ensure quality and consistency.
High-Quality Ingredients: A hallmark of craft spirits is the use of premium, often locally sourced ingredients. This focus on quality inputs directly impacts the final product, resulting in richer, more complex flavors.
Innovation and Creativity: Craft distillers are known for their innovative approaches, experimenting with unique ingredients and processes to create new and exciting spirits. This creativity leads to a diverse range of products that stand out in a crowded market.
Transparency and Authenticity: Craft spirit producers are typically transparent about their production methods and ingredient sourcing. This authenticity builds trust with consumers who value knowing the origins and processes behind their beverages.
Types of Craft Spirits
Craft Whiskey: Craft whiskeys are often characterized by their rich flavors and complex profiles. Small distilleries may produce single malt, rye, bourbon, and other styles, each with its own unique characteristics influenced by the local terroir and production methods.
Craft Gin: Known for its versatility and botanical complexity, craft gin often features unique blends of botanicals that reflect the distiller’s creativity. From traditional London dry to contemporary styles, craft gin offers a wide range of flavors.
Craft Vodka: While vodka is often considered a neutral spirit, craft producers elevate it with meticulous distillation processes and high-quality ingredients, resulting in smooth, flavorful vodkas that stand out from mass-produced versions.
Craft Rum: Craft rum distillers often focus on small-batch production, using traditional methods such as pot still distillation and aging in oak barrels. The result is rich, flavorful rums that can be enjoyed neat or in cocktails.
Craft Tequila and Mezcal: Produced primarily in Mexico, these agave spirits are celebrated for their unique flavors. Craft tequila and mezcal producers often use traditional methods such as roasting agave hearts in earthen pits and fermenting with natural yeasts.
Craft Liqueurs and Bitters: Craft distillers also create a wide range of liqueurs and bitters, often using locally sourced fruits, herbs, and spices. These products add depth and complexity to cocktails and can be enjoyed on their own.
Choosing High-Quality Craft Spirits
Research the Distillery: Learn about the distillery’s history, production methods, and values. A commitment to quality, transparency, and innovation is a good indicator of a high-quality craft spirit.
Check for Awards and Reviews: Many high-quality craft spirits receive recognition from industry awards and positive reviews from critics and consumers. These accolades can guide you towards reputable products.
Read the Label: Labels can provide valuable information about the ingredients, production methods, and aging processes. Look for details that indicate a focus on quality, such as small-batch production and the use of local ingredients.
Explore Local Options: Supporting local distilleries not only helps the local economy but also allows you to discover unique spirits that reflect the region’s character and flavors.
Attend Tastings and Events: Many craft distilleries offer tours, tastings, and events. These experiences provide an opportunity to sample products, meet the distillers, and learn more about their processes and philosophies.
The Future of Craft Spirits
The craft spirits industry is poised for continued growth as consumers increasingly seek out high-quality, unique, and locally produced beverages. Innovations in production methods and a renewed focus on sustainability and ethical practices will likely shape the future of the industry. Craft distilleries will continue to push the boundaries of flavor and creativity, offering discerning consumers an ever-expanding array of premium spirits to enjoy.
High-quality craft spirits represent the pinnacle of artisanal distilling, offering unique flavors and exceptional quality that mass-produced spirits often lack. By prioritizing traditional methods, premium ingredients, and innovative techniques, craft distilleries create products that resonate with consumers seeking authenticity and excellence. Whether you’re a seasoned connoisseur or a curious newcomer, exploring the world of craft spirits promises a rewarding and flavorful journey.

🌙 ENFJ / The Protagonist.
Protagonists ( ENFJs ) feel called to serve a greater purpose in life. Thoughtful and idealistic, these personality types strive to have a positive impact on other people and the world around them. They rarely shy away from an opportunity to do the right thing, even when doing so is far from easy. Protagonists are born leaders, which explains why these personalities can be found among many notable politicians, coaches, and teachers. Their passion and charisma allow them to inspire others not just in their careers but in every arena of their lives, including their relationships. Few things bring Protagonists a deeper sense of joy and fulfillment than guiding friends and loved ones to grow into their best selves.
Protagonists tend to be vocal about their values, including authenticity and altruism. When something strikes them as unjust or wrong, they speak up. But they rarely come across as brash or pushy, as their sensitivity and insight guide them to speak in ways that resonate with others. These personality types have an uncanny ability to pick up on people’s underlying motivations and beliefs. At times, they may not even understand how they come to grasp another person’s mind and heart so quickly. These flashes of insight can make Protagonists incredibly persuasive and inspiring communicators.

Snack preference hcs because I'm bored and love the characters in this stupid game
Amara: Fresh, bright, healthy snacks. Fruit, jello cups, Popsicles - anything cold and refreshing, especially if it's fruity. Loves froyo on her cheat days. Gets strawberry yogurt with cake, more strawberries, and chocolate sauce as her regular.
Ava: Tortilla chips. Could live off of Tortilla chips and some dips. Favorite is Onion dip with hot sauce. Makes a dessert dip of chocolate and caramel that is...controversial to say the least.
Axton: If it's at night, likes a salmon dip with whole wheat crackers. Daytime? Jerky with gravy. Makes his own gravy, family recipe. It's absolutely addicting, everyone tells him he needs to cut the Vault Hunting and bottle that sh*t for market.
Brick: BEEF. BURGER. PATTY. COLD. (It's actually a protein wrap chock full of vitamins but that doesn't work for his reputation)
Maya: Makes killer soup. She makes a huge batch, puts it in the fridge, and pours a cup and puts that into the microwave for a quick bite. Really likes veggie based soups, or soups with seafood.
Moze: Something easy to throw together. It's usually great hang over food. Quesadillas, grilled cheese melts, microwave mac-n-cheese - something filling, savory, and comforting. And yeah, fond of cheese. Also likes peanut butter cookies with black coffee.
Moxxi: Candy. Grandma candy, specifically. Those strawberry things? Is the biggest buyer for them. Licorice is also a favorite. Anything spicy with cinnamon, as well.
Lilith: Gummy candies, cucumbers with tuna or chicken, or some unholy sandwich creation that makes you think she's high. Her tastebuds are f*cked from Phasewalk, now likes peanut butter and jelly with ham and provolone cheese. Her arguement is that peanut butter is savory like ham, and grape jelly is 'pretty much wine' and wine is good with cheese. It's horrible.
Mordecai: Dried meat. What the meat is, no idea. Could be skag, could be human. It's meat, it's impossible to chew, it has no flavor. The popular theory is that it's for Talon and he's softening it in his mouth. As for what he actually eats, likely part plant and feeds off of sunlight. God only knows.
Tina: Rock candy. Loves sour watermelon rock candy. Oh, and also spicy sweet potato chips. And cookies with tea, of course. Likes Chamomile tea and chai.
Zer0: Legends say you can find candy wrappers in their room. They just like cool wrappers. Collect limited edition foodstuffs just for the wrapper or can. Has a wall lined with soda cans with unique patterns.
Zane: Heathen man. Pours spices onto his hand and licks it. Likes stale gummy candy. Licks the salt off of crackers and gives the defiled things to Mr. Chew. Puts cheese and pineapple in shrimp ramen with oregano. Vile, vile, vile.
Krieg: His roasts are to die for, and he eats it cold from the fridge when he's peckish. Uses Pandoran ingredients like cactus honey, salty hail found in glaciers in the tundra, skag bone broth for marinating, and a blend of local herbs and spices. They put Axton's gravy on it one time and had a collective transcendent awakening. The combo is now banned, for anyone who tries it will never enjoy other food again.
Gaige: Girl stalks the clearance section of the bakery in supermarkets for cheap baked goods. Lives off of expired cupcakes.
Tannis: Doesn't snack, but enjoys a cup of tea in between meals. After breakfast, has a green tea. After lunch, chai, and after dinner, chamomile and lavender for bed. Sometimes has a shortbread cookie with it.
Troy: Depends on the week, position of the stars, his horoscope for his moon sign, and the tide. His taste in food cannot be tracked. Goes from eating something bizarrely plain to so complex you think you're having a stroke when you look at it. His inner circle have a game called "What The F*ck Is The God King Eating Now". His personal chefs say they black out when cooking for him. Whatever it is, he doesn't eat anything pre-prepared or from a wrapper. The one time he ate something identifiable, there was a conspiracy he had been replaced by a clone.
Tyreen: One time while she was eating, Troy asked her what she was eating, and she responded, "Your mom" without thinking about it. They didn't speak for a week after the incident and never mentioned it again. Still gets embarrassed about it.
Lorelai: Has not consumed anything but burgers and coffee for months. Please stop her. Her colon is about to pop out of her stomach and strangle her itself.
Hammerlock: Dark rye with tomatoes, basil, fresh mozzarella, and a tall glass of lemonade. It's a snack he's had since he was a boy and it hasn't lost its simple comfort.
Wainright: Fried tomatoes with a coleslaw and peach iced tea. Fried vegetables in general are underrated in his book, despite his father's attempts of trying to get him to accept meat superiority.
Clay: Moonpies and scotch. Time of day doesn't matter. This is bad because its a shot for every pie. And he can put away an absurd amount of them. However, there are only so many shots he can drink before he's pretty much dead to the world.
Fl4k: 101 recipes for birdseed, skag treats, and 'humanfeed' as they call it. Once tried making pancakes for Zane and Moze while they were both sick, gave them food poisoning with nutrient supplements meant for spiderants. The supplements was to boost immune system - hence why it was added - and, unfortunately, venom production. Ergo, making it toxic for humans who do not produce venom. Zane was paler than snow and Moze was beyond delirious. Fl4k felt horrible for months.
Salvador: Makes croquetas in bulk and has a handful when he needs a pick-me-up. Filling varies, but likes them with fish and potato. As for drinks, cannot survive without his grandmother's horchata recipe. Makes it for the whole team whenever it gets cold. Also likes lime soda with pickled vegetables.
Marcus: probably other passengers on the ship

REVIEW
All-Natural Perfume Making: Fragrances to Lift your Mind, Body, And Spirit
By Kristin Schumann
Having walked through the souks and wanting to go into the perfume shops filled with hand blown perfume bottles and interesting herbs and spices has made me interested in the process of making perfumes. With many plants and flowers in my garden I hoped that this book would tell me how to make my own scents and that it would be easy to do. There are some in the village that distill rose petals and distill grapes to make high proof alcohol – both of which could be used in making perfumes. That said, I think it might be easier and safer to buy perfume from shops than to make my own for now.
 What I liked:
* The illustrated list of tools needed
* Terms used with definitions for them
* Basic plants, flowers, barks, etc that can be used for scent/perfume and the impact they have on the body/emotions
* The warnings, cautions, and safety information
* The information on top, middle and base notes in perfume making
* The information on energy – scent used with crystals n specific chakras
* Recipes for specific blends
* How to make extracts – this is one item that I believe I could actually tackle without worrying that I made endanger myself or someone else ;)  I have made vanilla extract in the past and might try a floral one in the future
* Reading about Bay Rum, how and why it was created, and that it is still being made today.
 What I didn’t like:
* Worrying that I might use too much of an essential oil or other ingredient and end up doing more harm than good.
 - Did I enjoy this book? Yes
- Is it likely that I will try making my own perfume? Maybe…but probably not. I might make extracts, though.
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto knows – becker & mayer! For the ARC – This is my honest review.
 4-5 Stars

CUSTOMER SPOTLIGHT: SAVORY SPICE SHOP
Tumblr media Tumblr media
FILLING LIFE WITH FLAVOR ONE SPICE AT A TIME
Savory Spice owners blend creativity, craftsmanship, and cooking into a successful boutique business
Did you ever stop to wonder how many varieties of paprika there are? If you’re like most people, probably not. But the next time you’re preparing a dish that calls for paprika, you might want to think twice before reaching for that basic grocery store blend.
Of the 200-plus spices, herbs, and extracts available from Denver-based Savory Spice Shop, they offer five varieties of paprika—that’s about four more than you would ever see in your average supermarket spice aisle. It’s what makes Savory Spice Shop the go-to purveyor of artisanal seasonings for everyone in the kitchen, from gourmet chefs to novices.
Tumblr media
“Most of our high-quality, proprietary blends are prepared by hand in small batches,” explains Savory Spice Shop founders Mike and Janet Johnston. “This allows us to create seasonings that are distinctly more fragrant and more flavorful than those sold elsewhere.” The couple opened their first Savory Spice store in Denver in 2004 and have grown to 27 retail locations across the U.S., plus a successful e-commerce business, offering 450 products.
“Cooking is so personal…tastes are highly individualized,” Mike explains, “We offer such a wide range of blends and grinds of spices, chances are that we can meet anyone’s flavor preferences.”
A blend of personal and professional passions
Mike and Janet entered the spices and seasonings industry with a blend of personal and professional passions. The couple leveraged their extensive professional experience in spice blending, the retail spice industry, and marketing to turn what they love into a small business.
Each plays an important role in operations and product development. Mike takes a creative approach to flavors, whether it’s in the kitchen or behind the grill. “I enjoy pushing flavors outside of traditional uses to inspire cooks of all levels,” he notes. He has created over 200 spice blends, from traditional favorites like Jamaican Jerk to seasonings inspired by global travel and trends. With the explosion of interest in barbecuing and home smokers during the pandemic, the demand for flavorful and unique rubs played right into Mike’s flavor forte. The company offers 49 rubs, seasonings, and other products specifically for grilling. As a lead product innovator, Mike oversees the company’s Test Kitchen which develops new products as well as recipes to support product launches and customers’ exploration of their seasonings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Janet manages day-to-day operations at the corporate office and warehouse. But she also immerses herself in international travel to gain a 360-degree knowledge of the industry. Her adventures include learning about the harvesting processes of French sea salt and Grenada nutmeg, tracing the origins of traditional blends such as Bajan in Barbados, cooking classes in Thailand, harvesting cinnamon in Vietnam, and picking peppercorns in Cambodia.
Simple, but with a “wow”
Tumblr media
About those five varieties of paprika? “Once consumers do a little research and experimenting in the kitchen, they discover there is a major difference in quality and taste between grocery store brand spices and ours,” observes Mike. “And there are so many varieties of spices like paprika—even salt and pepper—that have a range of exciting flavor profiles and textures.”
To keep so many choices from scaring away consumers who are just starting to find their way in the kitchen, the Johnstons set out to make the spice experience simple but impactful. Their mission statement reflects that: Our mission is to deliver ‘wow’ flavor experiences that bring you closer to your loved ones,” Janet explains, “We make exploring   in the kitchen surprisingly simple and approachable, so cooks of all levels can say, ‘I’ve got this!’
To that end, their line of Spice ‘n Easy line has been proving wildly popular, particularly during the pandemic. “Many people were just learning how to cook and had more time with their family to prepare meals in ways they previously hadn’t,” says Mike. “Customers wanted to learn how to cook, but they also wanted to try new things.” To inspire and entice shoppers, Savory Spice packaging features colorful photos of the finished dishes, and unique, kitchen-tested recipes are available on their website.
This year, the company is showcasing a new Wonders of the World product line of internationally inspired Spice ‘n Easy seasonings, including Honey Sumac Hummus inspired by Petra, Jordan.
Immersive, sensory in-store experiences
Tumblr media
The Savory Spice Shop in-store experience takes spice shopping to a whole other sensory level. Even before opening the door to a Savory Spice Shop location, you are drawn in by the smell of fresh spices. “If you walked down a grocery store aisle, you won’t have that same experience,” says Janet. “We believe the best way for customers to understand the value of high-quality spices is a hands-on, smelling, and tasting experience.”
Shoppers are not only taken in by the aromas and flavors, but also by the bright colors of the brand packaging and the products themselves. The immersive in-store experience also includes tastings, cooking classes, cookbook author sessions, and one-on-one interaction with spice merchants to learn about the store’s many products, recipes, and more.
For the Johnstons, what matters most in life is meaningful moments, delightful experiences, and of course, flavorful food. Or as they like to say: helping people “Live Life Full” one spice at a time.

Giving Cinderella Her Due: A Look At Cabernet Franc
New Post has been published on https://perfectirishgifts.com/giving-cinderella-her-due-a-look-at-cabernet-franc-2/
Giving Cinderella Her Due: A Look At Cabernet Franc
Tenute Argentiera’s iconic Ventaglio Cabernet Franc vineyard in Bolgheri
“Cab Franc is the ultimate Cinderella grape,” exclaims Leah Jørgensen, owner and winemaker of Jørgensen Cellars in Willamette Valley. “Historically, in Bordeaux, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot got all the attention, while Cab Franc was the one who did all the work. The truth is she’s the belle of the ball.”
While its hard to imagine the parent of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Carménère being underappreciated, Cabernet Franc is often overlooked by wine lovers. Yet, it remains a secret weapon of wine makers. It’s time to start pay attention to Cabernet Franc.
As a blending grape, Cabernet Franc plays well with others. It delivers high acidity, smooth tannins, and notes of spice and herbs, making it more than capable of taking the lead in blends from Napa Valley and Bordeaux’s Right Bank, most notably in Château Cheval Blanc. Recently, it is making a name for itself as a single variety wine.
Cabernet Franc grape close up. Saumur, France
Uco Valley is home to Argentina’s top Malbec. However, Gualtallary, within the Tupungato GI, has an ace up its sleeve—Cabernet Franc. “The potential power of Cabernet Franc illustrated through our terroir is best expressed here,” shares Gonzalo Fernandez Gregorat, winemaker of Rutini Wines, who has been producing Cabernet Franc in the region for 20 years. Rodrigo Serrano, winemaker of Domaine Bousquet, attributes the wine’s soft expressions in the mouth to the region’s elevation and alluvial soil. In the hands of the region’s top producers, the grape transforms into the sexy elegance of the Argentine Tango.
Under the Tuscan Sun, Tenuta Argentiera’s Ventaglio Vineyard, on their Bolgheri estate, signals a new awakening for the property. Ventaglio, meaning fan, represents the winery’s cru, or best, vineyard. And, it’s all planted with one grape: Cabernet Franc. “Ventaglio is my heart and blood—the place I find a new beginning,” shares owner Stanislaus Turnauer. Produced in small amounts in the best vintages, Ventaglio represents the flagship of Argentiera’s portfolio, taking expectations and understanding of the grape to new heights—a Cru Super Tuscan comprised mainly of Cabernet Franc.
Napa Valley wineries such as Gamble Family Vineyards, Ehler’s Estate, and Cliff Lede Vineyards produce rich, robust expressions of Cabernet Franc. Chris Tynan, winemaker of Cliff Lede Vineyards, believes Napa hosts the ideal conditions for the grape to ripen “to perfection.”
Inspired by Right Bank Bordeaux, the Cliff Lede High Fidelity “spotlights the playful symbiosis of Cabernet Franc and Merlot, accentuating their individual layers of complexity.” Jason Lede, hospitality manager of Cliff Lede Vineyards “loves it for its plush, fruit-forward qualities.” Adding, “It’s approachable yet still has incredible concentration.”
Both Leah Jørgensen as well as Alison and Eric Smith Story, owners of Smith Story Wine Cellars in Anderson Valley, find their Cabernet Franc inspiration in France’s Loire Valley. And, both believe the trick to an exceptional glass starts in the vineyard.
To limit the grape’s natural “greenness,” Smith Story carefully monitors the grape, harvesting once a perfectly ripe mid-core is achieved. “Resulting in a vibrancy and a nice lift of acidity at the end is a truly magical sip found in our Smith Story Cabernet Franc,” shares Alison Smith Story.
Adding to this, Jørgensen maintains the timing of leaf removal and irrigation of the vine is key in limiting the wine’s greenness while it ripens. This allows the fruit to shine as the green notes become tertiary, creating a pleasant herbal expression. She also contends, in order to coax out the grape’s fruitiness, new oak should never be used in aging.
Jørgensen Cellars offers a variety of expressions of Southern Oregon Cabernet Franc.
Jørgensen sources her Cabernet Franc from Applegate and Rouge Valleys, areas of Southern Oregon containing limestone soil with ancient marine sediments similar to the Loire Valley. Crater View Ranch Vineyards, the source for some of her fruit and a vineyard she believes grows some of the best Cabernet Franc in the world, contains a high concentration of this soil. Because Loire Valley is revered for its expressions of the grape, these soil similarities offer Oregon growers guidance in cultivating the fruit.
Cabernet Franc’s acidity and tannin structure allows Jørgensen to craft a unique expression—a blanc wine, inspired by former Anne Amie winemaker Thomas Houseman’s L’Iris white Pinot Noir as well as Crémant de Loire sparkling wines. However, she is not making an arbitrary white wine from red grapes. Rather, building on the grape’s structure for intentional symmetry between the white and red wines.
Lori and Mike Budd, owners of Draceana Wines in Paso Robles, feel in love with Cabernet Franc at first taste many years ago. In 2013, the couple launched their own label with one wine. “After hunting California, we realized there was not a lot of Cab Franc out there. So, we decided to form our own niche with the foundation of the wine we really, really love,” explains Lori Budd.
Today they craft two styles.  A classic multi-site clonal cuvee, and single site and clone reserve expression. “The reserve is mother nature in a glass,” shares Budd. “There are so many different expressions of the grape—there’s a Cab Franc for everyone,” believes Lori Budd.
Surprised a grape with Cabernet Franc’s pedigree did not have its own celebration day, Budd says the “Jersey girl in her” took up the charge to correct this oversight. In 2015, she single-handedly established December 4 as #CabFrancDay.
The date honors Cardinal Richelieu, who is credited with bringing cuttings of the grape to the Loire Valley in the 17th century. Lore holds he planted the vines at St Nicolas de Bourgueil where it grows to this day. From its humble beginnings, #CabFrancDay is now an international celebration.
While its increasingly easier to find wineries focusing on this grape, it remains underappreciated. “Cabernet Franc is an underdog—it needs to be fought for,” explains Budd. “It delivers so many different expressions. There is a Cab Franc out there for everybody.”
a selection of high-quality Cabernet Franc wines
2017 Cliff Lede Vineyards ‘High Fidelity’ Napa Valley ($95) is crafted of 48% Cabernet Franc, 43% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon in a nod to both Right Bank Bordeaux and classic rock n’ roll, in a “Smoke On The Water” sort of way. Notes of black currant, fig jam, black pepper, smoked charcuterie, and fresh tobacco dazzle the senses. Concentrated yet approachable, with a crushed velvet mouth-feel and a long, mouth-watering finish.
2018 Domaine Bousquet GAIA Cabernet Franc Gualtallary Estate Vineyard Uco Valley ($30) represents the first time the wine is produced as 100% varietal. It offers soft aromas of bright fruit, mint, pepper, warm baking spice, and floral notes. Firm, gripping tannins contrast its fruit-forward juiciness and mid-palate minerality. Its broad on the palate with a lingering freshness.
2018 Jørgensen Cellars Mae’s Vineyard Blanc de Cabernet Franc Applegate Valley Oregon ($30) is a stunning wine. Layers of lemon, apricot, and apple are joined by fresh picked savory herbs, fresh white flowers and blossom, white tea, and trailing toasted hazelnuts leap from the glass. Complexity follows through on the palate with rich texture balanced by firm acidity, offering an elegance and mid-palate lift. This wine is a must.
2018 Jørgensen Cellars Cabernet Franc Southern Oregon ($25) follows in the footsteps of the Blanc in that it is layered and complex. Aromas of a dried bouquet leap from the glass of this flagship red wine, followed by delicate berries, warm spice, savory dried herbs, and trailing smoke. Vibrant best describes the palate, its fresh with lots of energy and lift. A steal for the price.
2016 Jørgensen Cellars ‘Clos Rouge Valley’ Reserve Cabernet Franc Southern Oregon ($50) falls to the opposite end of the spectrum, word descriptors do no justice in this distinction. Elegant layers of red floral notes (fresh and dried) mingle with tea, savory herbs, cocoa bitters, and black pepper, but more than the sum of its part, the flavors weave together like a tapestry. With a crushed velvet mouth-feel and linear focus, this medium-bodied wine begs for food.
2018 Ravine Cellars Cabernet Franc Finger Lakes New York ($21.95) is a bold single variety wine. Dark fruit, olive tapenade, dried herbs, fresh tobacco, and trailing pepper elicits the senses. Fine-grained tannins from large cask aging offer a smooth mouth-feel. A fruit-driven plate is juicy yet balanced with earthiness in a full-bodied wine with a long finish.
2016 Smith Story Cabernet Franc Sonoma Valley ($48) is a single variety wine intentionally crafted in an elegant, refined style. It offers bright notes of red and black fruit mingling with fresh herbs, violets, subtle spice, and black tea. The palate is fresh with nice lift and mouthwatering acidity. A food wine in a classic old-world style.
2015 Tenuta Argentiera Ventaglio Bolgheri IGT ($300) is the inaugural release. It is crafted of 85% Cabernet Franc and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine stands out for its cru quality: Lush, sultry, layered, complex, and structured. It’s robe of dark fruit, crushed flowers, dried herbs, warm spice, and a cedar, tobacco, mineral earthiness goes on for days on the palate. Long age-ability but hard to resist now.
2018 Zuccardi ‘Poligonos’ San Pablo Cabernet Franc ($30) is located in the center of Uco Valley, in the heart of Tunuyán, a region defined by its close proximity to the Andes Mountains. Winemaker Sebastián Zuccardi vinifies this wine in concrete vats with indigenous yeast. The resulting 100% Cabernet Franc is fresh and lively, with layers of blue and red fruit, dried herbs, and graphite. The palate exhibits tension between its smooth tannins and bold mountain nature, walking a tight-rope between new and old-world styles.

There is no much difference in taste when you compare Camel milk with regular cow’s milk. They are identical in taste. However, Camel milk is slightly saltier than cow’s milk and it has more protein, low cholesterol, and high in vitamin C and iron. Now don’t fancy drinking a whole glass of Camel milk! Instead of milk, you can try Camel milk ice cream. Matchbous comes with a blend of tastes along with Cloves, cardamom, cassia bark, turmeric, and baharat. These spices give an impressive and satisfying depth to the whole dish. If you want to taste this dish more like a local, make sure to pair it with a salad and yoghurt raita.
5. Luqaimat
Luqaimat is a delicious sweet dumpling with a similar taste and texture of a doughnut. This mouth-watering dessert is more popular on special occasions like Ramadan. These deep-fried dumplings are made out of milk, butter, flour, sugar, saffron and cardamom. You can taste a range of variation from Nutella to crushed pistachios, salted caramel to pecans, and white chocolate with berry jam. The more you eat, the more you fall in love with Luqaimat.

Kousa mahshi is a classic dish made out of zucchinis with an exotic filling of rice and minced meat. Authentically, it was eaten as a main course by Emiratis. It’s one of the signature dishes in Dubai that you must try. The traditional choice of meat is lamb, though Kousa mahshi is also available with beef.
