Hi Reign! Hope you're having a nice day.
I don't know how to say this without making it kind of awkward but I noticed that your Toji refers to reader as "kid" a lot especially in your roommates au. I kind of find it weird because I feel like it implies that Toji sees reader as a kid which... yea isn't really my thing I guess. I mean obviously I know he doesn't because of their relationship... but it just feels a little creepy maybe if you know what I mean? I'm not tryna make it weird maybe it's just him joking the same way as when reader calls him "old man" but idk maybe I'm overthinking this.
anyway I'm not trying to be disrespectful or anything and obviously at the end of the day it's your work and anybody who feels uncomfortable can choose not to read it but don't get me wrong I genuinely love your work including the ones about Toji I guess it just slightly throws me off when he calls reader "kid" but maybe that's a personal sensitivity. anyway I'm not trying to imply that what you're doing is wrong or that you should change it or anything please don't take this the wrong way, i have full respect for your creativity and choices and the fact that this is your space. I guess I'm just kind of curious about how you see it when Toji calls reader "kid"
Hi! Ahaha you don’t need to over explain yourself. I 100% get it! Kid is one of those terms of endearments that connotes the subject of said endearment is seen or viewed as being quite literally a kid which given their romantic/sexual relationship would be weird
Lemme just explain my use of this.
In the roommate au, Toji and his reader have history, a past hinted at where they were in a partnership involving some kind of danger. It’s not specified exactly what that past was, but I’ve always seen it as they were in the police force, or fbi or the military.
The specifics don’t matter, the thing I’m trying to get at is, their relationship didn’t always start off so intimate. There was a level of professionalism that had to be maintained but also a closeness that formed naturally because of the fact that they had to trust each other with their lives. From that came nicknames like ‘brat’ and ‘kid’ for reader because Toji wanted to care for her from a supervisor/big brother way. Likewise, reader calls him ‘old man’ and by his surname to maintain distance
It didn’t work of course as we can see, they’re very close and very intimate. The nicknames stuck however because of just how long they’ve known each other.
His nicknames for her don’t carry the literal weight of ‘I see you as a child’ but rather, more of a ‘I got your back, always’
Hence, in the recent roommate smau where there’s a blackout and she’s scared, he’s not teasing her, not making it sexual as one would expect from him, instead he’s reminding her subtly that he’s never let her down before and that when she needs him, he’s always gonna be there.
It’s Toji’s way of showing he can and will step up, for her, which for a man like him, given his past and his track record, would mean a lot to reader. No one but them understand their relationship — it’s complicated because they’re complicated but it works for them and that’s what matters
Totally understand your discomfort with the term, and I do think it comes down to personal preference, and maybe it’s also some kind of cultural difference, if you yourself wouldn’t want to be called a kid at all
But rest assured, it’s not being used in a daddy/little girl context (I actually don’t feel comfortable with that kink myself - no shame of course! just not my thing). It’s just one of the quirks of Toji and his reader’s relationship, also kinda from a blue collar way of speaking
Hope that makes sense and if you’d still like to ask some more questions, feel free. I appreciated your very polite and respectful approach

Upon first glance from the front viewing platform of the Peaceful Tyranny, Tarn already knew this was not the Cybertron he'd resided upon for many years. He could not see any immediate sign of large, functional cities, and the planet itself seemed dark, desolate, its surface devoid of grand, towering structures. He hesitated in approaching. There was little purpose in visiting a Cybertron in ruins. It could even be dangerous, depending on who inhabited the wreckage, if there were any occupants left on the planet at all.
Thus, he decided to keep the Tyranny in orbit, and set the ship to drift around Cybertron. The quantum engine required several hours to cool from a recent jump, and he had more than enough fuel to sustain himself and his vehicle for much more than that time. He watched the planet, which, by all appearance, looked completely dead. Out of curiosity, he pinged the surface with the ship's central console, and wondered if there were any Decepticon stragglers in need of transport.

::Salutations. This is Tarn of the Decepticon Justice Division. All hail the Empire. Pax per tyrannidem.:: He said by way of greeting. ::Does anyone upon this world, comrades in particular, receive this message?::

Something something. Making Solas a liar in Veilguard actively brings back a problem they fixed working on Inquisition.
On December 20 2019 VGS posted an interview with Trick Weekes about their work on Solas. This whole sentence is a link so its large enough for mobile but also disclaimer this is before they changed their name so deadname warning.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's a transcription I found here which is where i took the screenshots above. Since I know not everyone has 40 minutes to listen to an online radio interview.
I however highlighted the main point since most of you are not reading the screenshots anyway but skimming through. Rant under Read-more. Also bc i try to not be too negative on people's dashs but also i wanna ramble some more.
"But he lied a lot more. And it really weakened his character."
You can tell this happened during the game. Solas lies only once within Inquisition. He says something he can't be vague about and you push him so he lies, badly. He usually tells the truth vaguely. Typically Solas lies no more than Blackwall.
I fully believe that if in Inquisition your inquisitor figured out that Solas was Fen’harel and asked him bluntly to his face he'd confess. He might even be impressed. But why would you ever start to think that. No one assumes that their coworker is actually Poseidon regardless of how much they love the beach and ocean.
He hides in your expectations.
You can't ask him about being an ancient elf or being Fen'harel of myth because those aren't very probable. They're astronomically low to be truth within that universe. And outside, no one finished DA2 and went i wonder if one of our next companions is the Dread Wolf. Sera said, impossible things can't be surprises. He doesn't have to lie so when the truth comes out it's becomes obvious on a second playthrough.
They then actively bring back a problem they fixed in Inquisitions development. That they were open about fixing. That having a character that outright lies to you makes you have no intention of even hearing out the character. It retroactively undercuts Inquisition bc i see people trying to find Solas' lies in it when they aren't going to find any beyond the court intrigue.
It undercuts any lore we do get from Solas bc people dismiss it outright as being a lie from Mr "I abhor blood magic". I feel like shaking people's shoulders like no, dont do it.
They retconned him guys i have proof from 2019.
And its like if you hate Solas is this even satisfying? Like that's not Solas. His motivations are gone (that's a whole other post) and so is his core personality trait. It's like they went here's the Dreadwolf but during the ten years they replaced the smug asshole who was insufferably right with a 20 yo senior chihuahua that doesnt have any teeth.
My favorite villains are those that tell the truth. Because nothing hurts more than the truth. Can you imagine if he told you the truth. If he told you horrible things that you dismissed as lies to only be true. Wouldn't Varric’s death have more weight if he told you Varric was dead only for you - for everyone - to see him in the Lighthouse. If it was a spirit who took his shape to help you or even because it saw something worth reflecting in your memories.
So you dismiss him until it's revealed near the end oh he was telling the truth and you have an oh shit maybe he was right about other things but its too late to try and stop any of the truths he told you which could be from allies/companions betraying to stuff about Ghilan'nain and Elgarnan.
Like the only way to redeem Solas was to listen to him and by going out of your way to address problems he sees and you can find the alternative to tearing down the Veil by a series a little puzzle pieces throughout the game.
Have it be he will only listen to you if you listen to him. That he'll reject your other solution bc why the hell would he trust you if you couldnt extend the same.
Like Solas couldve been a great villian and he should've been great for both the haters and those that liked him. Not only the romance but for those who became his friend. Like i keep coming back to if i hated Solas would i be satisfied with Veilguard.
And the answer is no because that isnt Solas.
Tricking him has no weight bc he's an idiot in Veilguard like not even in the ending bc doesn't notice you switch the dagger around like right in front of him but none of his actions make sense. Ppl have mentioned the regret prison makes no sense for Elgarnan and Ghilan'nain bc they don't have regrets.
Attacking Solas has no weight because he literally needs the shit kicked out of him by a dragon for it to even begin to work. They literally need him to be at deaths door before its realistic that Rook could take him in a fight.
Redeem has no weight bc of the massive retcons to his motivations. They had to retcon the post credits scene bc even if Flemythal went hey i don't want you to do this Dai Solas wouldve went okay but that doesnt solve my other problems with the veil including the corruption of spirits and the fact its in literal shambles so i guess is still coming down.
I'm just disappointed. By the end of Trespasser they had a great villian and they just tossed it to the side and reverted him and people are arguing about a character who's sole defining trait in Veilguard is a problem they solved before Inquisition launched.
Basically we can sum it up with a screenshot.

Lil hater Leo in honor of me FINALLY getting out of bed. Idk what happened to me today but I couldn't get out bed for the longest time ;-;
Anyway just like me, Leo also managed to get out of bed. Now, I for the life of me couldn't figure out what I would want someone to say to me in this situation, so I went the silly route. Probably don't actually say this to someone, I genuinely don't know what I would have wanted someone to say if there were anyone for me to apologize too :/
Anyway here's a transcript:
Leo: I'm sorry...I was supposed to cook dinner, but I did nothing all day...
Yuichi: it's okay!
Yuichi: in the wise words of my great-great-great-grandfather...it just be like that!
Leo, thinking: idk why this is making me feel better
Leo: he did NOT say that
Yuichi: he did, I swear
Anyway I once again would not recommend actually saying this and I don't think Yuichi WOULD say this, but I couldn't think of what I would want someone to say so :/

Christmas in November
"You know what the best part of being Jewish is?" Eddie asked.
He was at Steves place helping the kids study for midterms. They claimed his house has the least distractions, and since it was obvious it was really because they knew Steve was the easiest for them to manipulate, Eddie decided to stop by as well. It was only a bonus that Steve always baked tons of snacks for them whenever they were there.
Steve looked over from where he was currently putting a batch of cookies onto a plate. "What?"
"When people start talking about Christmas shit in the middle of November i can just say 'im Jewish' and it usually shuts them up." Eddie smiled cheekily.
Steve looked down at his Santa Claus pajamas (which Mike has been making fun of since the moment they entered his house) then over at the calender. November 13th.
"I'm starting to think you're tryin' to say something." Steve joked back, flattening out his shirt before carrying the cookies over.

A glamour sat snuggly against the Trickster's skin, shifting features into something that wasn't quite Loki. The illusionary magic had traded black hair for brunette, shortening it to something of a spiky crop; had twisted and turned up his usual nose into a snub. Normal concealer blended a neat little line around his lips, hiding away the multitude of scars that lay there--the old wounds something his magic was not capable of touching or altering. Casual clothing decorated his lanky frame--black, ripped jeans paired with a graphic tee with an amusing quip regarding bisexuality. A golden chain jingled and swayed at his hip, a small replica of Mjolnir sitting there to mock. Painted nails wrapped around a disposable cup of vanilla chai but he made no move to drink it. Feigning casualness, slumping just so slightly in the outdoor seat of the plucky little cafe that the tea had been purchased from, looking this way and that as if waiting for the arrival of a late companion. The action gave him an excuse to keep his gaze on a swivel because...someone was watching him.
Someone had been watching him with too close a gaze for a casual stranger for longer than he was comfortable with and a part of him feared that someone from Asgard had stumbled upon the life he had carved for himself here. Meant to upheave it and drag him back to the realm that he had thrown himself to the very void to avoid. They'd be severely disappointed if they thought he would go quietly. No, he would go like a feral dog. Barring his teeth and going for the jugular, if it came to it. Biting and ripping what he could.
Fingers drummed against the plastic lid of his drink before lifting it to his lips, squinting suspiciously at a red-haired stranger who seemed to be closer than she'd been only moments before.
Bingo.
Diving into his pocket, his free hand pulled out his cellular device and swiped a complicated pattern against the screen to unlock it as his eyes darted down to continue his performance of awaiting a friend who wasn't coming.

/* From Aurelius (@order-of-the-pharos-universe), for whoever you want */
They'd known about the island of Tripol for quite a while, of course. Given that Tycho and his ilk had been around for over four hundred years, and Aristotle had been around for over two thousand, it was hard not to.
At least, they'd seen the name on the map, a handful of times while looking for other tiny Pacific Islands. Up to this point in time, they've had no interest in the island and written it off as insignificant. Though, perhaps they should have known better. The tendency for most larger governmental organizations to overlook tiny islands populations just as big was their own motive for taking up residence on Leonide Island off the coast of Alaska in the Chukchi sea.
The short report that maybe they should take interest in the activities on Tripol came from a member of the order Aurelius only knew by the alias, Basalt, who belonged to one of a network of small sets that were scattered across the south Pacific, and monitored the region for supervillains. Were they heroes? villains? A potential ally or enemy? Were they connected too Bleddyn's people?
As Basalt and the other members in the order were tied up dealing with Bleddyn Owen's people attempting to take over Fiji, the council agreed to send the Ataxonimos Modulus, which included Aristotle, Ada, Piri, Mary Draha, and Aurelius.
Upon arriving, the group split to conduct their reconnaissance. Aurelius found the nearest park in Bayfloat where he could sit in his wheelchair, listen to the Earthsong, and draw a map of the island. He can hear... everything. The ocean, the land, the flora and fauna, in the Earthsong. He'd been sitting there for about a quarter hour when he noticed... something... in the earthsong approaching him, and looked up at the approaching figure.
Anywhere one looked one would find varying levels of villainy and heroics in Tripol locked in an uneasy balance (or lack of thereof ). It all really depended on which one of the three cities, really. The smallest city - Bayfloat - wedged between the two larger cities were a hotspot for both criminal activity and unusual phenomena of all sorts.
And despite this, the city was often seemed and felt peaceful on a surface level. This particular day would be a shining example of such. Even villains needed a break (or at least time away from the media spotlight). So did the self-established 'group' of heroic androids that called themselves the Mechanical Squadron Fivemind.
And in their free time, the android simply tried to live as humans do. Emphasis on tried.
One did not need to be able to hear the Earthsong, to notice audible footsteps approach in a somewhat lop-sided gait. Despite the clear skies, the machine in humanoid form was clad in an opaque raincoat draped over the right side of their body to conceal a bladed arm from the public eye.
The android simply nodded at Aurelius to acknowledge his presence before settling on the ground next to him. There's a soft whirr from within the machine as it seemingly stared onto space. Whatever it was doing, it was mostly internal.

Maybe if she just gotten home, these hornets would leave her alone - at least that was Darcy's thought process. If she could just hide away, they'd leave her be.
She managed to sneak away from them for now and if she was just quiet enough, she could make it.
She was really close, when she turned the corner and basically ran right into Akhila. "Shit, shit, sorry, are you-- are you okay? No hornets chasing you?" she asked, looking around immediately, but they were in the clear, at least for now.

" You wanted to talk? " Her head leads through the door of Neve's office, her hand wrapping around the door's edge. There's a tentativeness to her movements as she slowly starts to slide through the unnecessarily narrow crack she's made for herself.
Once she was fully in the room, her gaze flits to each of the wisps that still occupy her space, watching as they glimmer and blink in greeting of her, listening to the sweet chirps. But she tears her eyes away to land on the other woman in front of her. " I'm all yours. "

It was always a good day when he was several steps ahead of the Mortales Coven. For centuries, his father's family, the Howard Coven had been locked in a bitter battle with the Mortales Coven. Warlocks pitted against Warlocks, witches stripped of their magic by other witches. It never seemed to end, and like his father before him, Liam had been drawn into the fray when the bastards decided to go after his own twin sister and their younger cousins.
His girls were perfectly capable of handling themselves of course - Liam was all for Women Empowerment - but there was an innate urge to protect that no matter how tainted or bloody his soul got, he would always step in with a helpful hand. Or shadows.
Word had reached his ears that the Mortales were now trying to recruit others to their cause and well, he certainly couldn't have that. Being a thorn in their side was always a joy and if he could thwart Zeidan Mortales' plans in anyway, then it was a good day. This particular target of theirs, according to his reports, was a young woman who had a particular brand of magic. Now, while curiosity may have killed the cat, it certainly had a hard time with him. Liam knew how to blend in with the darkness, which made it easier for him to track the woman down. He would investigate for a while, keep out of sight and if it was determined that she was indeed being targeted by the Mortales' then he would step in.
When he found her, he certainly wasn't expect to find her holed up in some abandoned warehouse on the wrong side of town. 'They trying to recruit fuckin kids now?' he grumbled as he kept himself in the shadows, silently watching and observing. Everything appeared to be fine... up until he heard the unmistakable sound of Zeidan's hellhounds closing in on the girl.

What were the chances of Lucid running into the literal Devil? The man his Father had created in his predecessors image, to fill the empty seat the fallen angel left when cast out from Heaven. The seraphim was meandering the streets of Hell adorned in his sinner disguise, curious of this forbidden world that angels were not allowed to visit.
He couldn’t help but stare at the King, as if this really could not be real. While others around them seemed too preoccupied with their own business, the seraphim stood out like a sore thumb even in his illusion to look like a sinner. His spade tail swished side-to-side like an alert cat. Dare he approach? Or just observe?

After Mathias' chat with Fior, he realized that he needed more eyes on the Lightless. There were things going on that Mathias was not aware of, and he wanted to get some insight on them. It made him hypocrite in some ways, but clearly he was getting the wool pulled over his eyes.
Normally, he'd send out some pawn to get secrets and ultimately get killed in the process, but then Mathias would bring them back to pick at their brain and memory. He didn't want that this time around. There wasn't a need for unnecessary deaths. Thankfully, there was someone among the Deathrunners that technically went into Lightless territory.
Maddox was an interesting one. He had been told about his uses and multiple reanimations. Like a sleeper agent, like an attack dog. Someone like that was very useful in a world like this. He called upon Maddox, smiling as he saw the other come into the HQ.
"Hello Maddox, thanks for coming. Before we get started, how are you doing?"

@darehearts / starter call.
HOT ELECTRIFIED STEEL SQUELCHES UPON THE BLACKENED HEAP BEFORE HIM, drawing a raucous cry from the beast before it fell limp into the mud. arthur huffs, leaving his sword embedded to bone and skin as he rakes bloodstained hands through his hair. brunette locks flounder in such aggression, and he inveigles every dastardly fiber in his being not to pull at it in frustration, yanking strand by strand with ire and malice. ash and smoke charred at his lungs. his coughs echo into the sudden quiet before he spits the excess ichor from his mouth and looks about. no other beasts had followed. good - he wasn't quite sure if he had the strength for any more.
brown eyes dull on his victim ( victims, for several [ MANY ] other black masses remained seared into the floor ) watching as the contorted body now sizzles against pavement ( OTHERLY in the bones, poisonous and vengeful ). the slayer is perplexed, mainly that such an ugly wraith would wander this close to the capital. and NOT ALONE, to be exact. the monstrous spirits roamed in gaggles and, seemingly compelled, they drew dangerously close to outskirts of the city walls. it is not a common threat to these parts, that much he knows for sure. and with the thought of unusual behaviors still lingering, arthur supposes the people were lucky he was out here at all, able to handle the mess himself like any other road bump along his travels. though, the detour is mostly unappreciated ; a feeling of death looming, icy and cold as if the breath of ghosts fell harsh upon his back - he felt UNCLEAN and, in the burning of his accursed mark, he is reminded that he is running out of time.
running, running, running. he groans something vulgar and reaches for his blade again.
it is a clean exit from the monster whose black blood stains at his weapon. he wipes the vigor against his already soiled pants and sheaths himself. there were lots of other feelings he had besides fury and exhaustion ; mainly, pain in all forms, from the throbbing of his head to the singing of his lungs. the deep searing at his left side pulsates, increasing with each shift of weight as he takes a few steps back from the body at hand. his fingers draw to the wound, noting in irritancy that they will pull back with fresh, dark blood smeared across the skin. great - just, great.
hooves beating against the road catch him unawares after a long moment and, pulling himself away from thoughts of full-bodied anger ( THE AUDACITY ; and he is struggling both under stress and weariness not to unleash HELLFIRE onto the meaningless dirt below his feet ), he turns to face the open lane. someone approaches, quickly, with mighty steed in fast gait, and the best he can do is waive a red hand in the air to stop the man from passing.
“ hey !! it's dangerous here ; you should go back. ” the slayer calls hoarsely. the man slows to a meager gallop before him. the first thing he notices is the golden branding of a crest and, in bewilderment, arthur's brown eyes widen at the sight. a noble ?? out here, in the middle of nowhere ?? he does not recognize the family name ( he is not from these parts, after all - it would be hard for him to understand ) but, after a moment of silence, he realizes it actually doesn't matter who this man claimed to be. it was dangerous out here regardless, especially for a noble, and most certainly with a few more of those wraiths lingering about.
rolling his shoulders with a hushed hiss of the tongue, arthur staggers, the heat at his side violently thrashing against his ribcage. the longer he stood around thinking, the more he began to regret getting involved at all. and the headache ; he is surprised he is still on two feet as the world begins to spin around him. “ there are creatures in the night that rile in earnest, ” he mumbles a warning, cursing his sudden slur. “ you should - try to cross in the morning. ”

@risevp liked for a starter with Azurite.
Lack of prey dragged Azurite away from his territory to unknown waters. His frame glided across water, the bigger biolight of his frame dimmed to lower his presence from wandering fish.
The sight of a long shaped cyberfish, tanks full of energon, flashed in the distance. A careful push of his tail fin, he swam closer. Close enough to his prey, his speed heightened to a maximum, unaware of a second predator. The klik his jaws opened, the fish, taken by a silver plated mer.
Azurite's fangs scraped the mech's tail in his hurry for the prey, unable to stop the snap of wide strong jaws. And like more Mer's his first reaction came with a bubbling growl and bared fangs. His fins extended out to make him look bigger.
Since when had the silver one arrived? His attention had been too focused on the prey to see them. "Right in front of my helm..." A silent grumble. Was this his territory?

status: closed with @chancedarling where: by the tower darcy dragged chance to
"I can't explain why, but it feels like the weirdest structure on the entire island," Darcy explained as they were getting closer to the Tower. "Well, the entire island as far as I've come across so far. It's only been a couple of days, I doubt I've been everywhere else."
And Darcy hasn't, that was for sure - she's been doing runs to the ship with others when she could, and at other times she's been roaming the island, trying to see every nook and cranny of it. It wasn't the biggest island on the planet, sure, but it just felt like full of interesting, mysterious places and corners that were just waiting for them to explore them and figure them out.
The Tower being one of them.
It loomed above them, its antenna going even above the treeline, while the top of it looking like it held a terrace, a balcony, something where humans could and would use as a lookout. But no door, no chance to actually get inside - if there was anything to even get inside to -, nor any way to get on the top of it.
Darcy stopped in front of it, looking up and then over at Chance. "There is just something about this, I can feel it. I mean, what's the point of it? Everything else is here to help us survive, to give us comfort, while this tower is just... it's just here. Doing whoever knows what."
