HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GALACTA KNIGHT!!!! And congratulations to Meta Knight for experiencing the Cain Instinct for the first time.

Galacta Knight, as you might've been able to tell already, is one of my favorite characters, and KSSU is one of my favorite games (the original SS was my introduction to Kirby!) so I wanted to go all out. Happy day, old man. I pray for at least 20 more years.

Oh, and don't worry! He's not upset about the cake smash, he thinks it's funny. And he got back at him.

As for the in-universe explanation for there being 16 candles in his cake?

... 500+ didn't fit in safely.

Yes they are! Generally, the more time it spends on land, the closer it will be to 5 calories than 4. The estimate was actually based on frogs and tadpoles, I had to make an educated guess.

My best source was a feeding chart from a reptile food website which sells whole small prey for consumption by snakes. It perfectly lists out the values of dozens of small animals, but no fish. So I took a note of the 4 calorie estimate, observed that an adult frog increases in calories compared to tadpoles (bucking the trend with the others on the list where younger animals are worth more caloric value) and went on to do more research

I couldn't find a source that broke down WHOLE prey caloric value like the chart, so I ended up comparing caloric value between rabbit fillets, chicken fillets, and fish fillets on human-centric nutrition websites. My hypothesis was mostly consistent, even with more species added. Fish (perch, flounder, pike) < Wild Mammal (rabbit, squirrel) < Poultry (chicken, turkey, quail). There was overlap between "classes", certain fish getting over the 100 hump, but generally there was a trend I boiled down into 4/5/6

This is consistent with how a lot of fish meat is actually water. In fact, cats quench a lot of their thirst from the food they eat. I also learned some very interesting stuff about the fat distribution in fish which is going to blow a bit of a hole in some of my Clan culture stuff lmaoooo, but I'll furiously swim across that obliterated bridge when I get there

But funfact! Fish oil is rendered fish fats and it is the form that unsaturated fat takes, whereas lard is what saturated fats become. I need to do more research into this topic to understand what kind of difference it would make in a wild cat's diet.

There was one big bucked trend though: salmonid meat was WAAAAY higher in fat and calories. Like, absurdly high. Like 150 cal trout fillet vs 110 cal of rabbit fillet vs 88 cal of perch fillet.

I do not know why that is. My guess is that maybe it's because they were taking the number from farmed salmonids? Maybe it's because they're particularly fatty fish? Perhaps this is just the raw power of salmon slammin'.

Anyway, at one point I was trying to estimate exact caloric value per popular prey species, but decided I didn't have the "backing" to get so exact with the numbers since I was doing estimates with the fish. I'll do the work if it comes down to it, but for now, 4/5/6 is a quick, easy guideline you can use for just about any WC project.

about your struggles with your undergrad. i was in the same boat not a few months ago. it got so bad i went to the ER for stress-related internal injuries, i was suicidal, i was convinced i couldnt succeed in my major (or life) no matter what, i felt hopeless... please consider: before you drop out, you have to be honest with yourself and your limits. i switched from compsci to my true passion and its very freeing. your advisor is there to help you. im sure they can help you like they helped me. also look for support from family/friends at this time. (i know its tough. again i was convinced id be better off dead so it was hard to ask for help BUT IM SO GLAD I DID.) instead of quitting, try changing your goals. btw, its never too late to change ur major. i changed 3 years in. better to swap now than live a lifetime, as you said, of stress and difficulty. future you will be so grateful. and past you will be soooo jealous. don't give up!! you've made it this far, you've got the skills! if you don't have the passion or patience to withstand a certain subject, then change it!! its so much easier than you think!! sorry for word wall. i believe in you. it gets better. good luck. and etc :)

Oh fuck tomorrow I'm going to be a little birthday boy I keep almost forgetting

people making all those body-switching drink spiking memory altering theories when its so much easier to admit you felt like the writing wasn't that good this season. knowing a thing is mid and still enjoying it is so freeing try it sometime

#so many of those theories make no sense and would just make the writing worse?#i promise you don't need to TJLC your way out feeling unsatisfied with your the season because it only leads to more disappointment #when the secret good 4th episode of sherlock doesnt happen #its me talking #personally i think the clue to liking the season is admitting that most things in it are just there for fun #its either for fun or to give emotional context to a characters behaviour literally thats it #'what was the point of the minisodes' for fun and to give emotional context to aziraphale's moral struggles #'why were there zombies' for fun #'why are nina and maggie like that' 90 percent of the time to give clear parallels to crowley and aziraphale #the other 10 is just less than stellar writing #'why was the job storyline there' among other reasons to drive the point that aziraphale still sees the angel in crowley #etc etc #would the season work better if it was shorter? almost certainly! but im having too much fun to care #gomens #good omens spoilers #idk why i wrote so much on this topic. oh well

#blabbering #rambling/whining/complaining/venting ahead:#I think the horrors have finally caught up to me and the depresso is starting to take hold #i don't usually experience this until winter but I think the sudden drop of activity and people going on hiatus and such -#has triggered this early for me #basically I can't be left alone with my thoughts for too long or i start spiraling REALLY badly.#i don't really handle change very well haha...#i have the notorious curse of second guessing anything and everything and putting it on repeat in my head and then amplifying it #which sucks bc I don't have any more escapisms that work now bc this was already my escapism and I have no human connections irl #(I'm not kidding either. I've failed time and time again to make friends irl and was always the proactive one about it. But alas... ugh)#my only source for connections is online bc i struggle to make friends (especially at my age and how my energy keeps depleting and depletin #might lowkey be sharkweek but usually I just get more agitated and not this (this is very specific to the winter horrors™ for me)#i guess I may as well check out the spears while they're around still (tho in between me making dinner). I'm just feeling super bummed out #and not excited like I was the other day about it (ofc I blame the depresso™).#I don't even know what to do for my beta characters. Head empty. Head gone. sigh.#also it sucks bc next week is gonna kick my ass at work (canada day/july 4th/july in general/5 DAYS and long shifts in there too)#i'm going to be so tired and so alone and with nothing to look forward to. Epilogue

Jokir and Naythaa are winding down in a tavern after a long day of showing their new friend around, who has already fallen asleep in a chair in the corner. Despite a nearby bard's close proximity, Miraak slumbers peacefully through the noise, a fact that doesn't escape the other Dragonborns' notice.

"Hah! Snoring away like a baby," Jokir chuckles softly. "Must be pretty tired if he can sleep through all that."

"I'm glad he feels safe enough to do so," Naythaa points out, the dunmer spellsword's features softening into a smile. "But after all that time in Apocrypha, it must be nice to be back among things like music, and singing and laughter. Maybe he's a little out of practice, but it's good to see him enjoying himself."

Jokir nods in agreement. "He's so out-of-touch with this world, after not being a part of it for so long... What we need is a 'Modern Nord Crash Course'," Jokir laughs. "I kind of feel like we have a responsibility to do right by him... but sometimes, when he asks about things that I don't know the answer to, I worry I'm letting him down," the Nord warrior frowns, folding his arms.

Naythaa ponders for a moment before her eyes light up. "Hey! Let's take him home to Farkas! Between him and the other Companions, Miraak will be caught up in no time!"

Jokir beams happily. "I love that idea! Farkas is great with kids, and patient with newbies! And you know what they say, it takes a village to raise a child. With all of us guiding him, he'll fit right in!"

With that decided, the two Dragonborn gently wake their companion and head upstairs to the room they've rented for the night. There is only one bed, but it goes unused, as Miraak promptly curls up like a cat upon the fur rug, Jokir and Naythaa doing the same, and everyone enjoys a peaceful, Mora-free sleep.
