What’s your favorite movie?

Mun: THE MUMMY RETURNS/The Mummy - I mean as if it wasn't obvious. I love the mummy returns so much it's just so much fun and so quotable and it's one of those formative films that made me fall in love with adventure/pulp movies like that.

I also really love: The World's End, Galaxy Quest and Muppet Treasure Island, Die Hard.

Who’s your favorite actress/actor? -

So I have a few, I used to get very hyperfocused on actors, but I'm going to be honest I might not have seen everything they've been in. I think part of this is because I really like characters so if they have several characters I like I just class them as my favourite actors. I also think Rickman's death had an impact on me getting too attached to actors/actresses.....

Anyway, my favourites are: Rachel Weisz, Alan Rickman, Sam Neill, TIlda Swinton

Do you collect anything movie-related? Is there a backstory to any of those items?

So I used to collect DVD's and I have about 300+ of those but I stopped because of streaming/room/cost. They used to be a special thing I could get when I wasn't earning very much money. I have a few pop funkos and such but I think my collecting of movie/tv stuff really stopped after a certain author revealed herself to be a certain type of way. I don't want to get into politics here but that franchise was my specialist interest and I knew everything and I had so much merch, even a lot of stuff from before the films ever came out. I even have sticker books with animations from before the movies were released. I just found that I couldn't, in good conscious, keep engaging with the franchise and talking about - which kind of meant endorsing it - when the author/creator was and still is actively trying to hurt a minority of people.

I still have the stuff in my loft, packed away safe in case she ever apologises and realises the error of her ways but it kind of made me hesitant about collecting a lot of movie stuff.

That being said I do enjoy getting stuff that's like not directly merch but more fan created or something I see and associate with the movie (if that makes sense) - so like I have a Mark Sloan (Diagnosis Murder) build a bear. I have a star trek build a bear too with a little phaser.

Are there any movies that had a huge impact on you? In what way?

The Mummy/The Mummy Returns - It influences everything. I think watching it was one of the first times I sort of registered that this is how you do good, 3 dimensional characters. It's such a fantastic example of how to do a good ensemble cast movie. A brilliant example of how to balance comedy and horror and I adore it.

There's a lot of movies that have had a huge impact on me in different areas of my life so it kind of depends what we're talking about. I have to break them down and catergorise them haha!

Have you ever met an actress/actor? -

Tv actors and actresses I've met a few, I used to know someone who worked in soaps over here in the UK and they'd often have parties with soap actresses/actors.

I met Bianca Del Rio at a meet and greet.

I had the opportunity to meet a few at the Macbeth Premiere in Edinburgh but I was too nervous and chickened out (I wanted to meet Paddy Considine and have him sign something for me so BAD).

I just get too nervous tbh. So I don't know if I'd be able to meet one.

😖: Not many things annoy me, to be honest. And the things that do are not things other people do but rather things I notice about myself. Like if I notice I have a zit? I have to try to get rid of it. It being there and on me annoys me. Other people? Don't care. They can have as many pimples as they like, but I tend to pick at mine as soon as I see them. It's like I can't unsee them, and it just bugs me.

🎶: My favorite at the moment? ADO's "Tot Musica" from One Piece Film Red. It's not the stuff I usually listen to, but that song is just stuff in my head recently.

Friday Munday question

how old do you headcanon the zero crew (Florian/Juliana, Arven, Nemona and Penny) to be? Since I saw your post about Team Star’s ages and it got me wondering about Penny’s other friends

[That's a tricky question. XD I definitely have rough ages in mind for them, but I've mostly thought about Team Star as it's... what this blog/comic is about, haha! I'll try and remember my thoughts!

As I've said before... Florian and Juliana... they are the characters who are the "main" player characters, the ones with the 'raidons who went to Area Zero etc. So they exist, but they're usually off doing their thing and don't have much to do with Giacomo as such at the moment... it's why I mostly haven't addressed them as I wasn't entirely sure if they existed here or not. XD But I guess they would. One of them at very least.

On ages, I'd set them the same as the rest of the Champion kids, 11 years old. That's the base expected age for a base Pokémon game (that isn't Black 2/White 2 or Legends Arceus, or a spin off like Colosseum).

They're probably the peak of bizarre Champion kid vibes because they're so OP. XD

Next, Nemona. She's fairly easy to place for me, I read her as 16 or 17 or so. She's got no baggage as such, she's not connected to Team Star OR the Professors, she's just doing her school education. She's in her final year to be Student Council President... and she's also been there and done that on the whole "becoming Champion" thing... there's no evidence she's been held back years or anything and whilst she doesn't look old, she doesn't look young either... so it feels pretty straightforward, I feel.

For Penny, I think she's older than she looks, even though she is your "underclassman" and "in your year". We know she was sent back to Galar for at least 1.5 years after what happened with Team Star and she's basically had to start again, so she's definitely older than the player character (as is the case, I feel, with ALL of Team Star). Before that, as I said with my explanation for Giacomo's age, there has to have been a bunch of years that passed for the whole bullying and Team Star thing to come to pass... she might not have been at the school as long as Giacomo, but she was definitely there long enough to decide that bullying was a problem she wanted to approach...

I figure, especially since she's a foreign student, she actually came to the Academy as a university or maybe college (6th form, end of high school(?)) level student for further studies in the STEM track. She was likely 16 to 18 when she first attended, but that was years ago at this point. I don't think she's as old as Giacomo, though... I feel he's the oldest of the bunch of Team Star. Surely she was attending when Giacomo was being Student Council President and knows all about that (as do the rest of Team Star's bosses), which was about 3 years prior to this blog/comic (by this comic's lore).

(On a side note, I don't think it was explicitly Nemona that replaced Giacomo as Student Council President... since that would mean she's been president for over 2 years XD They say "some other nerd" or something in the flashback cutscene, that could literally be anybody.)

Going from that, it would make Penny from around 19 to 22 on this blog at least! This might change though, I'll be going through Penny's content in more depth before she turns up for the movie night so... XD; We'll see!

And finally, Arven. This one's a tough one! He's another with history and baggage who hasn't been turning up to his classes and probably got held back multiple years through in-attendance. I think he is also older than you first might assume! He doesn't really have much to do with Team Star, so I haven't thought about him much, but my thoughts are this;

As I said, he's had a tough time with the academy and life in general what with stuff regarding his parents and everything... we know he's been skiving lessons, but I can't remember if they mention how long for... I'm pretty sure somebody like Clavell drops times or something he's known the Professors (but I could be misremembering)... I even went through and tried to rewatch a bunch of Arven cutscenes to better answer this, but I can't find anything like it since I think a lot of fine details like that are in dialogue when you talk to characters, not cutscenes themselves... particularly with people like Clavell ABOUT Arven, not including him... =( If anybody has any screenshots of that sort about how long Clavell's known the professors or any indication how long it's been Arven's been without his parents etc. it would really help! I foolishly didn't take screenshots thinking I wouldn't need them...

In any case, I can't imagine him living on his own before his teen years and doing very well... or it being legal XD; I'm pretty sure I saw a good analysis somewhere that said something about him being 11 or 12 at some point in the story and it's been about 10 years since then? But I can't remember the specifics... I feel like that would be reasonable thinking though, him being around 20/21, especially with him trying to find a cure for Mabosstiff. I wish I had that analysis to hand.

It's awkward, I can't find any time scales in the cutscenes I rewatched as to just how much time has passed since each of these events happened... how long's he been looking for a cure for Mabosstiff? When did he go to Area Zero and get Mabosstiff hurt? Any of that info as a date would help!

Going by his build (wide, has the flat chin like Giacomo), his experiences (skipping school, family life etc.) and his striking facial hair (sideburns, very impressive, Arven), I would also put him at around 21 years old, personally... but unless I can find any kind of indication WHEN these events happened? I can't be sure, which is frustrating! =(

This took all day to compile and I'm a bit iffy about posting it because of the same reasons I mentioned in the previous post about Giacomo... XD; Eh... it's just speculation that applies specifically to this blog. Again, it doesn't invalidate any thoughts you may personally have.

I assume Mundays is asking the mun question idk how these things work X3 BUT who was your favourite character to design, who is your favourite to draw and who's your go to for like getting in the drawing groove?

I think that's the basic idea, but I know other mods do fancier events and stuff.

BUT of the cast specifically, I'd have to say Six was my favorite to design, Eve is my favorite to draw, but Lilith is the one I randomly doodle most for no good reason.

Six was the most fun to design both initially and when I went back to add stripes to the twos. For both her and M1, I found a pixel mewtwo base, gathered a ton of screenshots from their respective films, and went to town on trying to figure out what colors I liked most. I probably still have the psd somewhere, I could show some of that work if anyone was curious. I really wanted to make both of them stand out from the sea of mew/two blogs that existed then (and even more now), but ultimately Six's disabilities ended up being the most interesting thing about either one. Then I added the stripes. Six's specifically are based on the Clone Blastoise from Mewtwo Strikes Back, with some elements of Venusaur's lighter color stripes and the original mew design mixed in. Since Blastoise's markings are mostly on his shell, I took a lot of creative liberties. I initially wanted her to have only the lighter color stripes, but added the darker ones to replicate the points on original mew's tail and feet. She has the most complex stripes of everyone, but finally starting the comic has shown me that they're not that bad once you figure them out.

I just love Eve. Her design is heavily based on an "ancient mew" I made years ago in an attempt to capture the sharp mewtwo-ness of the canon Ancient Mew drawings in the card and the original movie. The perfect missing link. Basically the only changes I made to put her in the blog were to give her a pronounced sternum and refine the shaping of her tail. Plus, the original OC was way more mean and aloof than Eve is. She's fun, she's simple, she's relaxing, she hits all the right notes. I almost said Syn for this, but he's actually a pain in the ass, and I think all of the crackships for him have kind of burnt me out on enjoying him. ... Speaking of which I still have more to do. Oops. Plus, he keeps kicking my ass in Pokken's story mode. To his credit though, he is the one I know most well due to extensive chatting with @mushroom-for-art and such.

Lilith, I love Lilith, I love her hate and anger, I love her badassery, I love her beauty, I want her to rip me in half, I'd thank her for it. She's the reason this blog exists and, prior to the stripes, was the main thing to set this blog apart from the others. Her demeanor is based on the idea that, in the original Japanese script for the film, Mew is written to be a god displeased with the clone made from it. It jokes and mocks and overall doesn't take mewtwo seriously until it realizes how much power its progeny actually has. My headcanon is more that she stopped the battle because she was tired and bored and pissed off, getting mewtwo and the clones to leave so the stupid humans could get out of the way and they could actually finish their battle on her terms. At the moment, I don't know if that rematch ever actually happened or not, though. Anyway, she is usually my go-to because I love her and her character, she's pretty and soft, and she's hard to get right.

Eyyy, guess what, it’s munday now, so thanks for the question friend! To start, my blanket statement concerning my faves is that I absolutely love any story that explores the unknowable, the unexplainable, and the extraordinarily eldritch. Cosmic and monstrous horror is MY. JAM. I’m into the gore, the body horror, the things that are just TOO. BIG. for our brains to comprehend so they just.. yknow… explode. Bonus points that I am a notorious terato and appealing monster designs are just……. hhhh

So in terms of specifics: it’s sad that Lovecraft was such an asshole, bc honestly some of his stories serve as the cornerstone for a lot of my inspo, primarily his works like Call of Cthulhu, At the Mountains of Madness, Beyond the Wall of Sleep, Dagon, The Shadow Over Innsmouth, and etceteraaa. Thankfully, his ideas have since been better adapted for people who AREN’T raging bigots like himself, which is why I HAVE to give a big shoutout to Lovecraft Country, of which I’ve only read the book but I hear the show is awesome too.

And nooooow let me kinda do this by categories with some of the highlights off the top of my head:

4. what made you choose this muse?

oh man i have a discord log of this lemme go back and see... ok so i was chatting to jade and saying i wanted to write a muse with a diff personality than what i had at the time but i hadn't watched anime in over a decade and reading an entire series just to find a muse i might RP would take too much time. so jade was like 'do u wanna join one of my OC worlds' and i was like 'omg but canz i be hansum guy in it' and she was 'yeah sure!!' so then i ended up shopping thru her OCverses to see where i'd fit

klaus looked lonely so i said i'd pick angel world and lo and behold she suggested the same thing at the same time so then we made aury from that

p.s. jade named him and i picked out his last name but the other options were like alistar & constantine LOL, anyways during the brainstorm stage we just called him X

and i also realize in 3 days (AKA 4/4/24) it will be the 1-year anniversary since this muse came into existence so...congrats to him? hahaha

13. what do you think about OCs?

i think they're cool and take a lot of work and more importantly, self-restraint to make into a realistic and cohesive character. the boundaries are what i have trouble with, i always want to change OCs that are 100% my creation so i've only been able to RP this guy + nezha because i have an unofficial Word of God to bounce "canon" off of and keep me in check with consistency.

don't make me make my own OCs that's like letting m. night shyamalan direct movies unchecked with his plot twists arite weird things happen and story falls apart *sweats*

30. what are your favorite RP tropes to play? (angst, hurt-comfort, etc…)

dang i haven't thought of this in a while...

i don't know about tropes atm but i like comedy in general with a bit of crack mixed in. i also enjoy writing angst but im always paranoid with overdoing it because then it gets too maudlin/melodramatic and doesn't click in the right spots and i want to eat my own hands when i read my stuff. i like when it's more understated and subtle so it hits you harder (like a aftershock) but it's honestly hard to do hahah~

oh writing angry muses is fun too. but then i wanna joke in the tags so my partner knows im not like, actually angry at them hahaha i appreciate you all very much mkay

god there'd be so many i'd wanna live in... if i'll be honest, i'd love to live in the movie of Teen Wolf. im cheesy, yes, but i love the older movies over the new stuff we have. more iconic and honestly, it'd be livable if ima be honest! i'd love to live in a small town with everything in walking distance

hmm... i'm not sure. im not someone who'd be eager on what kind of neighbor i want, but i'd definitely pick Ash Williams as a neighbor. yeah he's an ass, but he'd definitely make my day a lot lighter with his bullshit and i'm all for it.

this one's easy - 70s / 80s. its the time period my parents lived their teen and adult years, and i love a lot of stuff from that similar era. the culture and how stuff was done then is something that interests me a lot. plus the music too! i'd enjoy spending a day there, indulging in what they had then.

favorite movie LMAO so continuing on from the last ask, my favourite movies also include Oceans 8, Pacific Rim, the 2009 Star Trek, and The Little Mermaid.

and show My favourite show of All Time is called Leverage. I also like things like Criminal Minds because I can have those on while I do other stuff. I really enjoyed Bridgerton lately, and the Queen Charlotte prequel, which led me to the books.

1, What’s your favorite movie? The Lion King will always be my number one movie, no matter how old I am. It's been my favourite since I was eight or so. There are just many wonderful memories connected to this movie, it means an awful lot to me.

3, What’s the first movie you ever saw? One of my earliest movie memories is First Blood, which I saw when I was about four? I mean…it explains a lot, doesn’t it lol

10, What’s your favorite movie genre? Anything with Ralph lol I like WWII movies and action stuff in general, though they also need some good storylines? Also thrillers. howdy! how're you doing? this week's munday question is about... passion! what's your favorite thing right now? is it a movie, some music, a book, your own blog? I wanna hear about it!

hrmmmmmm,,, hard to say ! so I'll split it up into a bunch of things!

I think the thing grabbing my attention right now is SCP, but once scream fortress (tf2's halloween event) starts that'll snag away my attention. Oh, and the FNaF movie later this month! that'll probably re-ignite the FNaF fixation haha.

I've also been Head Full of ocs (doing OC-tober so that contributes lol), I've been posting a lot of art of a character I've dubbed 'Fly Guy' in particular recently. Two OCs of mine- Dolly and Love Bugg- live in my brain perpetually though. They are Always present.

in terms of music, I've been listening to this cover of 'i know im a wolf' a lot! Also quite fond of TamaTerrorz from the Playtime with Percy OST. I wouldn't quite say im zoned into these in the same way I am the other stuff I've mentioned but I've listened to them on loop a good bit and that's really as far as it goes with my brain and music.

2. I can’t really type while intently listening to music with lyrics because my brain gets the lyrics and my words mixed up lol so I like to listen to movie/TV original scores while I write stuff. Or if I’m not feeling that, I’ll go to Ambient Mixer and find a calm ambiance that helps me focus.

7. We would totally go to an amusement park and ride rollercoasters and eat junk food and run run run and wear ourselves having a blast. Then we’d go home and unwind while watching a movie or something and maybe eat tacos or Chinese takeout.

Mun~ What got you into writing and what is your favorite part about writing your character?

I'm gonna answer on behalf of all my characters in this one ask, if that's alright!

I think I mentioned this in my discord intro, but I first purposefully wrote something creative when I was six and wanted a better ending to Titanic. A few years later, a local radio station hosted a mother's day contest--best essay on why their mom was great won a gift card to Outback Steakhouse or Red Lobster or one of those restaurants that's not really fancy, but is definitely fancy when you're poor. I wrote in and I won and they read the essay over the air and when I saw my mom crying, I was like, "holy shit, I can make people feel my feelings??" I just never stopped. Creative nonfiction is my true home, but I like it all.

Tbh, all of my characters are a manifestation of my own shit in one way or another, and I love the opportunity to process stuff through them.

Serious favorite thing about writing Bea: she's been a way for me to work through leaving academia/parting ways with a dream.

Goofy favorite thing about writing Bea: HER LOVE OF COMMUNISM

Serious favorite thing about writing Jemma: the way she naturally loves people is a representation of how I had to teach myself to love people

Serious favorite thing about writing Sol: Sol's my reminder to not be so goddamn hard on myself, and his ability to appreciate the little things is soul-soothing.

Goofy favorite thing about writing Sol: I can't even pretend, Sol is wish fulfillment--oh that I were a Hollywood writer AND director who could cast Jon Bernthal in a romdrama I wrote specifically for him.
