new headcanon : vandal was now also Ivan the Terrible ( grand prince of Moscow & tsar of russia in the 1500s ) . I find it strange that no Slavic rulers was included in Vandal’s history before , so this idea will remedy that .
Thank you , Glo , for this idea !

i haven’t done one of these in a while, so let’s go. thanks for tagging me @idontthinkiknow ! (and sorry for being SO LATE to post this)
Were you named after anyone? sort of, my name is based on a mythological creature
When was the last time you cried? oh shit, uh, probably last time i watched a sad movie, a couple of weeks ago?
Do you have kids? nope, not interested in having any either. tho i enjoy teaching, and being there for my friends’ kids
Do you use sarcasm a lot? eh, it depends. trying to live a more sincere life i guess haha
What’s the first thing you notice about people? genuinely don’t know, honestly don’t think there’s anything consistent i look for (if we ignore stuff like “is this person a potential danger to me”). to some extent “are they family” (as in; are they also queer), but that’s more subconscious i think
What’s your eye color? dark brown
Scary movies or happy endings? both???
Any special talents? bro that depends. like, not sure what other people consider special? i eat fire, i’m a competent sailor, i’ve managed to refurbish big chunks of my home without dying
Where were you born? the nordics
What are your hobbies? writing, working out, wrestling - the three w’s, lmao
Have any pets? nope (but i’ve got a lot of plushies with Very Strong personalities)
What sports do/have you played? track, orienteering, soccer, long distance running, tai chi, swimming, etc etc
How tall are you? 160cm(-ish)
Favorite subject at school? most of them, tbh. the only thing that made me dislike subjects were shitty teachers, but i’m curious about most things. obviously i’m a writing-type, but i super enjoyed math, history, and a bunch of other subjects
Dream job? some kind of manual job, fucking anything but being stuck at a desk. florist or gardener, carpenter, farmhand - there are so many jobs i daydream about, and envision for myself in the future (also let’s not forget lighthouse keeper, the dream job of dream jobs)
tagging: @cosmoseinfeld @emobatsy @glo-13 @purplehairsecretlair @hereforwords + anyone else who feels up to do the ask game (i’m at work and if i spend too much time adding mutuals to this list i will get busted)

The Hercules of a Weapons Master/Mechanic
Tumblr media
»»—— Crew Member #8 of Space Pirates ATEEZ ——««
all aboard The Perihelion, welcome to the co-pilot’s log system! here you’ll be able to access the crew’s profiles should you wish to read about their journeys: (no nsfw content)
[CAPTAIN] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8]
“so you want me…to break them? As in literally or figuratively?”
is the baby of the crew but actually the eldest in his own family
epitome of ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’. With a well-grounded and balanced mindset along with a great sense of independence and self-discipline
is a native Draerair born and raised on Corebos, a relatively peaceful planet where several clans co-exist across the different regions specialising in agricultural and metal work
[database file: Draerairs are shape-shifters by ancestral blood, however not every individual are born with the ability to shift into their bestial forms (though they retain some of their inhumane strength and traits). Each clan’s lineage has a specific beast they’re associated with. Individuals with the ability to shift can do so at will, be it partially or fully]
Jongho and his family are descendants of the Silverclaw clan, their associated beast is that of a bear. He’s the only one currently in his family that was born with the shifters ability, his grandmother was the previous individual with the ability
in his human form his hair is dark like the coals in his father’s workshop, honey tanned skin from hours of work under the sun and a gentle shade of hazel for eyes
when partially shifted he gains a good 2 and half feet in height as bones and muscle mass expands, nails are elongated into claws, canines sharpened and eyes become more of an amber gold colour. Faint markings appear around his eyes as well as down his arms. Fur of black-brown shade emerge the closer he shifts into his beastial form
his strength is renowned throughout his clan, at the tender age of 5 he shocked the souls out of his parents after they found that he’s managed to bend the metal bars of his youngling playpen simply to get out so he could go on a mini adventure to find an afternoon snack
“oh sweet Zeus, we’ve lost the baby!”
they found out very quickly that he particularly liked snacking on fruits especially apples and sometimes would have to hide extras from him, otherwise they’d have none left
Jongho had always looked up to his father and his speciality with weapons forging. During his youngling years he’d be allowed to sit at a safe distance and observe, wide eyes with wonder when he looked at his father welding ambthanite metal together or carving a blade from crystalline emeyl
it was no surprise that Jongho followed in his footsteps and begun his apprenticeship by his 12th summer, his immense strength was a sure advantage when it came to being efficient and how easily some techniques were mastered
“who needs a machine when you can just bend it with your bare hands?”
his younger siblings adored watching their older brother (it felt like déjà vu) build anything as small as a hunter’s dagger to fixing up parts of visiting ships. It’s also an extra treat for them whenever Jongho would crush fruity snacks single-handedly, because he loves hearing their joyous laughter and applause
The Perihelion had actually made a supply stop within the region that Jongho resided in to trade for food and energy cells. Under the recommendation from some of the market farmers, the crew were led to the Chois’ smithing workshop to fix up minor damages on the ship’s hull and to assess if any defence upgrades were available to be installed on such short notice
“…I can’t tell if that’s Hercules or a beast hammering away in there”
the expressions on half the crew’s faces were priceless once they met Jongho, right after they saw him heave a 7 tonne slab of frerhil iron [database file: a common metal for heavy duty spears used by barbarians & warmasters] on to the bench without batting an eyelid
“you sure are one strong baby!”
“MINGI SHUT YO-“
“oh don’t worry, I get that. A lot”
and if it wasn’t for the overly toothy smile that Jongho sent their way that made the crew slightly nervous, it would’ve been the way his muscles flexed tauntingly as he gripped Mingi’s hand in a handshake during introductions Seonghwa nearly sweated out his worries just wearily watching that exchange
“I think what our lovely tech engineer meant was that you have a bab-ahh youthful face, yeah, youthful appearance! Not that you’re a baby at age”
“of course, I just passed my 15th summer not too long ago actually. So what can I do for you lot today?”
Hongjoong didn’t even try to hide how impressed he already was, he hadn’t come across too many shifters before and knew very little of their nature and abilities so this was great insight for him. He couldn’t care less with Wooyoung snickering in the background when his chest puffed out proudly after Jongho complimented his ship
Jongho was genuinely amazed that The Perihelion had managed to hold out until now (after hearing brief stories as to how the damages were acquired), without even having a ship’s mechanic for regular maintenance. His awe elevated when Hongjoong told him that he, a self-taught, was the one who worked and spruced the ship up from its near-scrap stage
Jongho’s father made similar comments when he came round to check up on his son and the workshop, even helping a bit with fitting in newer protective panels around the engines and windows. It wasn’t anything fancy, but Jongho did promise should the crew make another stop by in the future he’d have some better upgrades for them
it wouldn’t be till nearly 4 years later where their paths would cross once again in the city of Acreon. Jongho having made the decision to leave his home planet to start living life a little more, though he’d still pick up smithing-mechanic work along the way of his travels. Probably not the most ideal way to reunite with the crew, especially amidst a bar brawl of all things
having not fought in his entire life (unless you count sand wrestling during his youngling days), Jongho was running entirely on pure adrenaline when he recognised Hongjoong and swiftly grabbed him out of the way – seconds before a stool came smashing down
“what th-OH hey! It’s you!”
the crew witnessed Jongho partially shift that time, almost bowling the entire crowd over with his solid mass to get Wooyoung and San out of the fray. Throwing them over his shoulders and bolting with the rest out the back door of the bar (Wooyoung’s shrieking could be heard down the street)
“thank you for that, really, we owe you one”
“do your evenings out usually end up like this? Never would’ve pinned you lot as the type to throw punches at a bar”
“listen here, that slimy loathsome spawn of a troll deserved it for inappropriate treatment of the dancer”
well at least Jongho couldn’t fault them for having good morals and standing up for it, though he wouldn’t be able to live it down come the following day when news spread throughout the city of ‘a beast from the nether realms’ being involved in the incident at The Illusion he dreaded getting an earful from his parents should his family ever catch wind of the news
Hongjoong invited him to tag along with the crew for the rest of their time in Acreon (highkey hoping this time Jongho would stick around more permanently), which allowed him time to evaluate the state of The Perihelion since it’s been a long while
Jongho officially became a member of the crew after he convinced Hongjoong to head over to Vostrilles, a place he knew had supplies of the latest ship weaponry and mechanical resources, and stuck by long enough to help with the upgrades that the crew pretty much adopted him into their wholesome chaotic family
he grew to thoroughly enjoy their company and now have the luxury of being doted on by his older sibling figures (he’d still deck anyone who dares call him a baby with the exception of mumma Seonghwa)
“watch your language! There are children on board”
the crew realised just how much they needed a proper weapon smith/mechanic on board after a few close-calls with a rival crews – Jongho’s newly installed point-defence canons had given the ship an advantage on its durability and defensive structure that it could withstand enemy attacks enough to make an escape
no one would openly admit that they cannot stay angry at Jongho for longer than 2 minutes, even when he was being in an argumentative mood
not to mention that everyone is extremely protective of their baby bro
ends up being closest to Mingi, Wooyoung and Yeosang, the latter having a calming presence when he needs some downtime and he appreciates the other chaotic duo when they join in singing random duets with him (a habit he does whenever he’s in his workshop)
recently Jongho found some quality metal paint, he pitched the idea of giving The Perihelion a proper makeover – Hongjoong and others could customise the colour palette they’d like and finally give the ship the glo-up she deserves (no one noticed Yeosang’s little character doodles he so sneakily painted at random spots/corners of the ship hehet)

Name Ten Films That Have, For Whatever Reason, Stuck With You
@millennialfangirl tagged me, and this was harder than I thought and I might have gone over the ten.  Also, tumblr is being tumblr and not cooperating with gifs, so only the first film has one.  Here they are, in chronological order:
Casablanca, 1942
Tumblr media
Look, Casablanca is the best film ever made.  Is it my favorite?  No, but it’s the best, much better than Citizen Kane, which is often heralded as the pinnacle of cinema but is about a rich old white guy who loves his sled.
Here’s looking at you, kid.  Of all the Gin joints.  Round up the usual suspects!  I’m shocked - shocked!- to find that gambling is going on in here (Your winnings, sir.). This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.  As Time Goes By.  Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman and a supporting cast to die for.  Renault throwing away the bottle of Vichy water.
I could go on, but here’s why Casablanca has stuck with me: It’s one of my Dad’s favorite movies, too.  When I think of Casablanca, I think of him.  One Christmas (I can’t remember if I was in high school or college), the old timey theater in town played Casablanca.  I got us tickets as his Christmas present.  It is one of my favorite movie-going experiences (more on that below).
Star Wars, 1977
When I was little, we used to go to my maternal grandparents’ house every Tuesday, and I would watch Star Wars.  I was probably waaaaay too young - there’s audio of me playing out Star Wars with my My Little Ponies and I was like, three.  On my college essay, I wrote about how Return of the Jedi was my first movie (true story, I was six months old and slept through the whole thing, because apparently taking your sleeping infant to the movies is something parents did in the ‘80s).
Star Wars is where I learned about the Hero’s Journey.  About princesses and rebellions and wizards and flying spaceships.  I devoured the Timothy Zahn books and Young Jedi Knights series.  And yes, I’m a little down on it all after Episode IX - but I still love it.  It has impacted me in so many ways.  I know my life would be the poorer for not having seen it.
Raiders of the Lost Ark, 1981
If Princess Leia was the first damsel I saw who get herself out of distress, Marian Ravenwood was the one who solidified the idea that women were perfectly capable of getting into and out of trouble themselves, thank you very much.  Then there’s Harrison Ford in being Peak Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones - Intelligent, clever, brave-bordering-on-reckless.  Who wouldn’t want to go on far-flung adventures to find hidden treasure, and maybe punch some Nazis while you’re at it?
The Goonies, 1985
Speaking of far-flung adventures, how about going on one in your hometown?  Booby-traps, pirates, Italian gangsters, Sloth, hidden treasure - it’s every kid’s playtime fantasy come magically to life.  I still want to go down those tunnel slides and shoot out into a hidden lagoon.  They just don’t make movies like this any more - fun, family movies that don’t dumb down the action or characterization for kids, that’s a ride for both kids and parents alike.  This was the first movie I showed my kids during quarantine.
The Princess Bride, 1987
Inconceivable.  The Six Fingered Man.  Death cannot stop truly love.  Only mostly dead.  Have fun storming the castle!  Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya.  You killed my father.  Prepare to die.  ROUSes.
This is a perfect movie.  It is.  It is lightning in a bottle and it should never, ever be remade (those were just rumors, right?).  This is romance and humor and suspense and two of the best swordfights in cinematic history (fight me on this.  No, really, fight me.  I took fencing in college because of this movie), all wrapped up in the sweetest Happily Ever After.  I love it so much.
Jurassic Park, 1993
I’ve told this story before, but here it is again.  In the summer of 1993, I was 10 and my sisters were 8 and just turned 6, and we convinced our parents that we were for sure old enough to see Jurassic Park - a book my mother had read and thus knew what level of horror to expect.  It did not go well.  I ended up burying my head in my dad’s chest; my youngest sister was in my mom’s lap; and my middle sister, with no where left to go, ended up under the seat in front of her.
Now, it’s the movie we quote (Hold on to your butts).  When my youngest had jello recently, I told him to hold it up and look scared, then texted the picture around.  We all knew immediately what I meant.  The DVDs are given as gifts and then immediately stolen.  My youngest sister can recite the entire movie.  I can’t wait to scare my sons with it.
The Shawshank Redemption, 1994
I don’t remember this movie when it came out; I remember it was this movie I hadn’t really heard of at the Oscars, where it won none.  Not until I was much older did I realize what a travesty that was.  I first watched this on a pep band bus trip in college - not the time or place to truly appreciate it.  Months later, I rented it (remember renting movies?) and fell in love with it.
This is a beautiful movie about friendship and hope and finding light in the darkness.  It’s always on TV, and I will always stop and watch at least a few minutes of it.  The ending - the last half hour, really - is pure cinematic poetry, but noting beats Red’s monologue as he travels to find Andy on that Mexican beach.
That Thing You Do!, 1996
This movie is Capital-D-Delightful.  Just thinking about it makes me smile.  This is the movie that tipped me from Tom Hanks Fan to I Love Tom Hanks and Need Him to Be My Best Friend.  He WROTE and DIRECTED this gem of a movie.  The talent.  The song is legitimately catchy, the characters are Wonder-ful (see what I did there?), and it’s all in Day-Glo ‘60s color.  I love this movie and make no apologies.
Toy Story 2, 1999
Speaking of Tom Hanks, this is my favorite Toy Story.  Look, the first is a technological marvel, but Woody is an ass throughout most of the film.  The fourth is it’s own thing, and the third is really, really good and I ugly sob at the end, but it’s also got a lot going on there.  But the second - oh the second is beautiful in its simplicity.  In addition to all of Andy’s toys, we get Jesse and Bullseye and even Stinky Pete.  It’s an ode to friendship and love and the realization that life, for toys and people, eventually ends, and we have to appreciate every moment we have now.  It is my favorite Toy Story.
Finding Nemo, 2003
I don’t know if it’s my favorite Pixar film, though.  It depends on the day, but most of the time that distinction goes to Finding Nemo.  I first saw it when I was twenty, a decade before my first kid was born, but it has greatly influenced how I parent.  The conversation between Dory and Marlin in the whale, the idea that keeping anything from happening to your kid cuts both ways, the leap of faith, the mantra of “just keep swimming,” the notion that your kids don’t just want, but need to have independence - it’s all there, in Pixar’s stunning ocean animation.  I get choked up just thinking about it.  “Now go have an adventure!”
Honorable Mentions:
Forrest Gump, 1994
I loved this movie.  I love Tom Hanks in this movie.  I would watch it in snippets during college, while I ate dinner or lunch or just needed a quick study break.  But it’s been years since I last saw it, and I wonder if it still holds up.  It’s a Boomer movie made when the Boomers were - basically, just a little older than we old Millennials are now.  It’s American history in the last half of the twentieth century, but the big events - Vietnam, Civil Rights, even AIDS - are filtered through the lens of a straight white man who kinda wanders into history but doesn’t really get why the moments are historic.  I feel like it’s a film I appreciated at a certain time, but wouldn’t love as much now.
Avengers: Endgame, 2019
There just hasn’t been enough time for this movie to make the list.  Ask about it again in ten years.  Although, to be honest, I haven’t seen the whole thing since I saw it in theaters, and I fear it won’t live up.  It was the best movie-going experience I’ve ever had.  The crowd was so into it, and the last battle had everyone, me included, screaming at the screen.  Part of what makes Endgame so special to me is that, among the three big franchises that ended last year (Avengers, Star Wars, Game of Thrones), this one actually stuck the landing.  And yes, I could argue that Steve Rogers’ end doesn’t actual make any sense and deprives Peggy Carter of her agency - but in the emotional moment of the film, it worked.  That portal scene is the culmination of twenty-plus films, and I still can’t believe it works as well as it does.
Thanks again for this! I second tagging @lerayon for this.  I feel like I’m kinda cold-calling mutuals from our Arrow days, so no pressure.  But I’d love to hear what @machawicket @dust2dust34 @dettiot @theshipsfirstmate have on their lists.

15 Questions for 15 Mutuals
I was tagged by @glo-up-goddess 💕💖😊
1. Are you named after anyone?
So, this is sort of a yes-and-no answer. I go by Marlo, which is a name I chose myself and is not after anyone. But for my given name, my mom was gonna name me “Veronica” after her best childhood friend/lesbian lover that never was, but when I was born, I didn’t look like a Veronica.
So my mom, being really Catholic, thought she would name me after the Virgin Mary, but that was “too plain” so she named me “Maria” and then “Dolores” as my middle name after my grandma. Fast forward to a year later, my mom is looking at a Catholic calendar, and my birthday is the feast day of Our Lady of Sorrows, which is coincidentally, in Latin, the feast day of “Maria Dolores”.
So my mom thinks God spoke in her ear and named me that after His mom, and she still assumes/hopes that I’m going to be some kind of saint. Joke’s on her, I am So Gay and a Heathen. 😂😂😂
2. When was the last time you cried?
Like yesterday, I cry a lot
3. Do you have/want kids?
I don’t have kids now, but my partner and I do talk about adopting/fostering once we are in a more financially stable place.
4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?
A fair amount, though not as much as I used to. I’m trying this thing my therapist encourages where I’m more “positive” and “vulnerable” so that I don’t “use negativity as a maladaptive coping mechanism” bc “acting like everything is bullshit is a self-fulfilling prophecy” or something 🙄🙄🙄
5. What’s the first thing you notice about others?
Whether they are “interesting” or not bc my ADHD brain is like an insulting magpie who randomly and immediately makes a snap-judgment on whether someone is boring and therefore not worthy of notice. Luckily, I find the majority of people I meet interesting in some way.
6. What’s your eye color?
Green-brown hazel
7. Scary movie or happy ending?
Honestly it depends on the movie. I will take a good scary movie over a crappy movie with a happy ending, but tend to baseline prefer happy endings.
8. Any special talents?
I sing, draw, paint, and craft; I can use a glue-gun to make almost anything. I write, perform burlesque (with the Femme FATales in Chicago) and dabble in interior decorating.
I can also do a pretty spot-on impression of Andy Serkis’ Gollum.
9. Where were you born?
Midland, Michigan
10. What are your hobbies?
Do my cats count as a hobby? I spend a ton of time and energy on them. I blog, draw, paint, and craft. I read, sometimes novels, sometimes history books, sometimes comic books. I play D&D and a slew of video games, mostly RPGs, tho I also enjoy puzzle games, crafting games, and platformers. I will play anything that is gay or pretty, and I try my best to support indie devs.
11. Do you have any pets?
I have 4 cats! I love them! They’re great! 😸😸😸
12. What sports do you play/have played?
I used to play soccer as a kid and did long-distance running in college, but honestly I don’t do sports.
13. How tall are you?
5’7”
14.Favorite subject in school?
English and Art, though I love History and Science as well. I majored in Philosphy in college and got a minor in Chinese and Japanese Literature. I also have a Law degree with a focus on Public Interest Law.
15. Dream job?
Anything that lets me be my own boss and do lots of different things to keep my ADHD brain happy. Currently I’m trying to make that work with a combination of several part time contracting gigs. Honestly, I just wanna Make Stuff and Help People.

Bias/Bias Wrecker Tag~
So Chelle @prettywordsyouleft tagged me in this forever ago, and I was recently inspired to get my act together and do this tag!
Rules: list the groups you like, your bias, and your bias wrecker. tag 10 people
So as you will all find from this list, I don’t stan a lot of groups. It’s not that I don’t want to, but rather I have a hard time focusing on a bunch of groups at once. You’ll see that a majority of the groups I do stan came out during or before my college days when I had much more time. But now, with work and projects outside of work, it’s always been easier for me to focus on one or two at a time, so this list may not be that extensive ><”
Everything is under the ‘read more’ because this post is LONG. Here we go!
Wanna One
Bias: Ong Seongwu/Yoon Jisung
Tumblr media
I bias Seongwu and Jisung for very different reasons, but they’ve always been really special to me. Seongwu just kind of came into my life like a freight train back during PD101. Like he showed up during his audition, took my heart, and never let go of it. I just found him so interesting at the time, and the more I learned about him, the more that I adored him. He’s really stuck to me as far as biases go and I don’t know if I’ve ever fallen for someone as quickly as I have with Seongwu.
With Jisung, he became my bias out of admiration. I’ve talked about it a few times, but when PD101 had started, I was still unemployed and trying to break into the video game industry. It’s really hard to do when you don’t have any experience, and I really thought I wasn’t going to make it. Hearing that Jisung didn’t give up even though he was considered old to be debuting, really motivated me to keep trying. I eventually did get into the video game industry and I couldn’t have been happier. He keeps me motivated to keep trying new things, and even maybe start a side-business, we shall see. XD
Bias Wrecker: Kang Daniel
Tumblr media
This should be of no surprise to anyone, mostly if you’ve followed my main blog/this blog for a while. Though he’s recently been promoted to bias level, Daniel was my Wanna One bias wrecker for a really long time, dating back to PD101. He caught my eye pretty early when he was talking about how idols should be able to do everything and I remember thinking, ‘huh, this guy’s got an awesome way of thinking’ and from that point it just got worse OTL Between ‘Get Ugly,’ and ‘Hands on Me’ everything just went downhill… and then Wanna One actually debuted and Daniel just kept pulling at my heart ;; Admittedly we’re both very similar in our interests and our overall personalities feel like they would mesh well, so I suppose that’s why I’ve always been drawn to him, but refused to admit it for like a year and a half. Then on his birthday rolled around this past year and he just became an official bias, lol. Daniel does weird things to my heart that I thought only Seongwu could and that is a feat. ><
EXO
Bias: Kai
Tumblr media
So, are you all ready for a ride because my Exo-heavy days were a mess XD So, I started stanning Exo when they debuted. Yes, I was there during the whole ‘everyone has a superpower thing.’ But back then, Jongin wasn’t the one that caught my eye. I was more drawn to Lay, Kris and Luhan at the time. Honestly, given that I was in college, it was probably the fact that they were older than me that really drew me to them, amongst other things. But as the years past, and the lineup got shuffled, I was just kind of confused as to who I liked? So my feelings changed, particularly towards Kai, and somewhere along the way, he just became my bias. I think at the beginning I didn’t really see all of the hype with him, but he really grew on me. He’s sweet and insanely adorable when he isn’t doing sinful things on stage and I really adore that cute side to him ;__;
Bias Wrecker: ... … … Sehun
Tumblr media
So fun fact for everyone. I didn’t used to have a bias wrecker in EXO because my biases were always kind of a mess to begin with? I mean, if you read why Kai became my bias you would know that it’s always been a bit of a mess for me on the EXO side of things. So there was never really a bias wrecker because of that. That is…until now. Sehun was someoneI had always kind of kept an eye on, but never really thought of him as a bias wrecker until recently. As one of my friends liked to put it, his recent glo up is just making everyone quake and I have been added to that list. ;____; This is too much, sir. It should not be allowed!!! As you can see, Exo’s maknae line is dangerous for my heart ;;
TVXQ/JYJ
Bias: Jaejoong
Tumblr media
So I’m putting these two together because I was a Cassie back when it was still 5 members of TVXQ and my goodness my teenage heart had the biggest crush on Jaejoong. Like the biggest. I couldn’t even hide it >_> I legit bought magazines cuz I knew they had a teeny section on TVXQ >< Very much an oppa bias. He still makes my heart to weird things. The rocker vibes have always been a plus.
Bias Wrecker: Changmin
Tumblr media
The sass since always. The fact that he just kind of said whatever he wanted on variety shows. Legit what is there not to love about Changmin? Well, other than my Jaejoong feels back in the day. He’s a bias now, but back then, Changmin was a bias wrecker XD
Infinite
Bias: Woohyun
Tumblr media
Woohyun is another one that has been a bias form the beginning. It was weird, I remember seeing him in the ‘Come Back Again’ video and I just thought, ‘He’s the one I like.’ XD I do still adore him very much.
Bias Wrecker: Myungsoo
Tumblr media
Myungsoo was also a bias wrecker from the beginning honestly. If any of you followed me from when I was whwoohyun, you’d know the struggles that Myungsoo gave me OTL Also, what’s with all of the boys, biases and bias wreckers and cats, yo?
CNBLUE
Bias: Jonghyun
Tumblr media
I never really questioned why I adored Jonghyun so much. I just do. Pretty sure it was the guitar that pulled me in. >< I also really like his attitude towards things.
Bias Wrecker: Jungshin
Tumblr media
Maybe it’s cuz he and Jonghyun were the Tom and Jerry pairing for me for a long time but, Jungshin definitely had moments where I really thought he was going to become a bias. He’s close, you guys ;;
And that’s it! Yeah, some of this (all of this) is kind of a mess, but for people that want to know me better and kind of want to know the groups I stan, here you go! I won’t be tagging anyone, but feel free to say I tagged you if you want to do this ^^
Also if you sat through this entire post, you are amazing, and I’m sorry it was so long ;;

From Google Docs to Scrivener to our very own Reedsy Book Editor, there are countless tools out there for writers to create, edit, and ultimately format and export their books to publish. Vellum is another one that you probably recognize, though you might not be completely familiar with its mechanics. That’s why we wanted to comprehensively review the latest Vellum software! In this post we'll evaluate key features, overall pros and cons, and how to know if it’s the right software for you.
First off, let’s cover what Vellum is, as well as the different packages and pricing available.
What is Vellum?
Vellum is a book creation tool for Mac that allows you to professionally format books for publication. The Vellum software is free to download and use, but you’ll need to purchase a package to actually export your files to publish.
The Vellum package options are:
1. Vellum Ebooks — allows you to create and export unlimited ebooks. 💰Cost: $199.99 Space falcon reloaded movie.
2. Vellum Press — allows you to create and export unlimited ebooks and paperbacks. 💰Cost: $249.99
If you purchase Vellum Ebooks first, you can upgrade to Vellum Press for an additional $99.99. However, the mathematically-minded user will realize that this is $50 more than you’d pay for Vellum Press alone. So if there’s even a chance that you’ll end up printing your books, you might want to invest in Vellum Press outright.
These prices might seem pretty steep for publishing software, but keep in mind that you’re not just going to be using Vellum as a replacement for Microsoft Word. Indeed, its primary function is formatting, not writing, and its features allow for fairly sophisticated book design. Its strengths include great import and export abilities, style templates, and a multi-platform previewing tool — all of which we’ll cover below.
Tumblr media
Did you know? The material “vellum” is parchment made from stretched calfskin, used by writers for centuries in lieu of paper. Though it’s much rarer nowadays, vellum is still used for certain religious and archival purposes, such as printing scrolls of the Torah and the British Acts of Parliament.
Key features of Vellum 2.5.3
📥 Import capabilities
Though just about every book formatting tool allows you to import other documents, Vellum’s import capabilities are quite impressive. You can only import Word .docx files (which makes sense, given that this software is only available for Mac), but the conversion is instantaneous and pretty seamless. Your entire book appears in the app right away, with chapter breaks inserted automatically, as long as you’ve denoted them with headings in the original document.
You can then edit directly in the app, though your bold, italics, and other basic formatting will carry over. Finally, you can do special formatting, such as ornamental breaks (which you can customize yourself!).
The only hiccup we found with Vellum’s importer was that it occasionally messes up the spacing in the first chapter. However, this can be fixed in-app by simply deleting the extra spaces. Some users have also reported chapters being clumped together or out of order. To fix this, just select the configuration icon next to the heading and then choose “Convert To.”
If you’d like to test out the importer (or any of the following features) yourself, you can do so using the sample documents provided on the Vellum Tutorial page.
📖 Book Styles
If any one feature makes Vellum worth its hefty price tag, it’s Book Styles. Once you’ve arranged your chapters to your heart’s content, you can navigate to this panel (under “Styles” on the left) to tailor just about every other aspect of your formatting and interior design. Start by selecting the overall aesthetic of your book under the main Book Style heading (with stylishly named options such as “Meridian,” “Artisanal,” and “Oxford”). Then go on to customize just about everything else!
Tumblr media
For example, remember how we said you can cherry-pick those ornamental line breaks between sections? Vellum provides no less than seven built-in designs, plus the option to upload your own image to use as the “ornament.” The Book Style panel also supplies multiple options for chapter titles and first paragraphs (including various fonts and drop caps), as well as block quotes, verses, and even images.
Past versions of the Vellum software have struggled to incorporate images into the text, but the newest version has more or less cracked the formula. There’s still no viable option for a full spread of custom-placed images (as you might see with photos in the middle of a biography, for example), but you can easily insert in-line images, or a single image that takes up a whole page.
Tumblr media
As you switch back and forth among the different styles, Vellum will also display each option in an e-reader preview on the right, so you can get a sneak peek at the final product. Speaking of which, those previews aren’t just for experimenting with Book Styles…
👀 Preview mode
Another helpful feature of Vellum is its Preview mode. Most formatting tools have a preview mode of sorts, but Vellum’s is particularly thorough. It allows you to see how your book layout will look on a wide variety of e-readers: Kindle Fire and Paperwhite, Apple iPad and iPhone, Nook SimpleTouch, Kobo Glo, and Android tablet. Simply click on the tablet icon in the toolbar to select your mode of choice.
You can also preview how your pages would appear in a print book. Vellum definitely shines here, as it has both Draft mode (for looking at the overall text) and Proof mode (for scrutinizing the layout and design). The only downside is that Proof mode can be a bit slow to run. So if you’re using Vellum to preview a print book, you should probably save the “Proof” preview until your very last once-over.
📤 Export capabilities
Finally, we have Vellum’s export capabilities, which match its trusty import capabilities: the app exports smoothly and true to preview. As long as you’ve checked over your book on every kind of e-reader, you should have no trouble. Naturally, it also exports in various file types for ebooks, and different trim sizes for print books.
However, it’s easy to forget that you won’t be able to export files from Vellum without paying for a full package — and you don’t want to frustrate yourself by designing the perfect book, only to realize you don’t actually have the budget for it. So be honest with yourself about what you’re willing (and able) to spend, and weigh your formatting options carefully before you begin this process. Luckily, our next section should help you with that!
Overall pros and cons of Vellum
What Is Vellum
👍 Pros
Tumblr media
Vellum Envelopes
Various professional, aesthetically pleasing formatting options with Book Styles.
Can include links to external sources and your other books.
Preview function helps clearly envision the final product, whether it’s an ebook or print book.
No limit to the number of books you can export after you’ve purchased a package — great for authors self-publishing long series, and even has built-in box set capabilities.
👎 Cons
Vellum Software
Much more expensive to use than comparable book formatting tools, such as Apple Pages (free), Kindle Create (free), the Reedsy Book Editor (free), and Scrivener ($45).
Not available for PC — though you can still use Vellum on a PC, if you’re willing to pay for access to a “virtual” Mac.
Doesn’t lend itself well to substantial textual edits. For example, if you write a new sentence to replace an old one, but then want to undo the typing (Ctrl+Z), Vellum will undo each individual letter rather than the whole sentence at once. (This is why, though it can be used as a word processor, we recommend waiting to import your book into Vellum until you have a final draft.)
Vellum Software
The bottom line
Vellum software is a solid investment if you’re planning on self-publishing multiple books, especially if you’ve been dissatisfied with other DIY formatting options in the past. However, if this is only your first book, and/or you’re not sure whether you’ll go the self-publishing or traditional publishing route, it’s best to hold off for now — especially if you’re on a budget, since $199.99 (at minimum) is nothing to sneeze at.
In the meantime, why not check out some free book formatting tools, just to get a feel for the process? (We hear that RBE is pretty cool.) Or if you’re on the hunt for premium writing apps, but don’t quite have Vellum-deep pockets, there are many great pieces of novel writing software that are less taxing on the wallet. Don’t be afraid to try out lots of different options: that’s the only way to find out what’s right for you!
Have you used Vellum to format your books? If so, tell us about it in the comments — and if not, leave a question for someone who has!

Writer Notes: The Wicked + the Divine 32
Tumblr media
Spoilers, obv.
While I've done this in my Tumblr asks, I forget if I've put this in the actual notes or not. I would presume I haven't, because if I'd put the following caveat in the Writer’s Notes and I'm still being asked when the Writer Notes are coming when they're later than usual by people who presumably read the Writer Notes it would be more than a little rude.
(I write the following, and then bounce back here to put a caveat on my caveat. Don't worry if you've done the following. It's not the end of the world, it's really only a minor annoyance in the larger scale of things, and you didn't know.)
I've done Writer Notes for every single issue of WicDiv. That's 34 (with the Specials), including this one. They appear before the next issue drops. I've gone as late as the day before the issue is released. I don't believe I've ever gone any later. That's how it's always happened.
“Before the next issue.” That is when to expect my Writer Notes. It is not “late” until the next issue drops.
I write them as soon as I have time. If I haven't done it earlier in the month, you may safely assume that I've got other commitments that have to be prioritised above writing something which is, in a very real way, not part of my job.
If you're worried whether you've missed them, the Writer Notes are always tagged on my tumblr. You can click this link and see if they're there or not. There is no need to ask me.
I do not appreciate anyone asking where they are and when I'm going to do it. Please, don't do it. It stresses me out, both in the frustration at the entitlement in believing I should be writing it instead of many of the other things I should be doing, and in the simultaneous and entirely contradictory response of I SHOULD BE DOING THEM WHY THE HELL AM I NOT DOING THEM I AM LETTING EVERYONE DOWN!!!!
There is only so much a creative can give.
Er... and that appears to have segued into this issue's theme, hasn’t it?
Jamie/Matt's Cover
We finally reach full bleed on the Imperial Phase covers. By this point, I suspect pretty much everyone has seen what we're doing with the covers, and the implicit question of “how can you follow something that's doing this to full bleed”.
This is one of my favourite WicDiv covers. Jamie and Matt have excelled themselves here. The nonchalance of Dionysus, a return of the Acid House badge and so on. It's completely different to all the other gods – as is the nature of Dio – but is also the most visually magnificent. I love this.
Noelle Stephenson
Is a force of nature, and doesn't really need me hailing her here. Suffice to say, BUY NIMONA IF YOU HAVEN'T. She jumped at Baal/Minerva, and we just sat and let her do her thing. Clearly with this issue's content it rubs up unusually.
Walking Dead Cover
Homaging their issue 150 cover. We did it with 32, which makes it kinda funny. Persephone in her issue 22 costume.
IFC
With the double-length of Imperial Phase, we're very much reaching the recap page's breaking point in terms of working out what information to include. I smile that I managed to fit “He is such a shit” in there though.
Page 1
Return to the three panel of the start of last time. Immobility remains the point. I had a slightly more writer-y line for Sakhmet in the second panel, but I generally find it's best to strip her back to Just The Facts. There's no need to fence with Sakhmet.
Jamie's addition of a bloody-handed yawn is a perfect way to add a secondary reveal to the scene.
Reading people's commentary. I find it interesting that people seem to have Persephone's expression in the last panel to be bored. It reads pretty clearly as a wince to me. It's a very small response – which is, of course, the point – but it's definitely not ambivalent. One of the things in comics is how much for characters to verbalise, and how much you can just leave to the art. This is not a thing which has any one solution.
Pages 2-4
There's a craft thing here of note – we only explicitly introduce the idea that there is a sexual consent issue at this point in the Woden scene. We don't think leaving that sort of threat across a month is either ethical or useful. In a serialised narrative, we try to weigh these things up.
(It's still relatively quiet. There's twelve Valkyries. The thirteenth Asian girl is Cassandra.)
The page transition of Dionysus kicking in is the sort of thing I love as a storyteller. Repeats with a tiny difference.
The dialogue was moved a little after drawing, so as to leave the final panel on page 3 silent. Jamie's expression was perfect and didn't need disruption – more so when Matt pops the reds.
The glo-stick nunchaku first appeared in Rising Action, and make a return here. They were inspired by Christian Ward and Catherine Rooney's wedding, when they distributed a bunch of glo-sticks during the 90s rave set the DJ dropped. I was spinning them around, and it got me thinking.
Page 4 is obviously the key image, capturing Dio's hamartia in the same way as Amaterasu's final panel in 31 captures her. I get upset to even think of this panel. Futile acts of bravery when all hope is lost is something which almost always makes me cry.
Anyway – just wonderful. Jamie and Matt nail it. The oppressiveness of the mass of green, the crowd against Dio, the soar of his body. Perfect. Nice work.
Page 5
The Red Shoes being the Hans Christian Andersen story about a girl who gets a pair of ballet shoes and can't stop dancing. It doesn't end well for her either.
It's been used all over culture – Kate Bush is an obvious one, but I tend to think of the 1948 movie.
Pages 6-7
We basically keep the rhythm of the last issue going. As in, hard cuts between multiple scenes when the drama is highest. I'll be interested to see how this works in the trade – page 1's refocusing of the action here is the stepping stone back to this location, but it's quite the jump.
Anyway – Sakhmet and Persephone's final conversation. I needed something like this.
Standard-y me structure of a two-page scene with the first row of the first page merged as is the last row of the second page.
Lots of great expression work here, especially in how tight Jamie is choosing to cut things. It's not just as simple as a slow zoom to the character's features, but there is a gradual increase. I like how Sakhmet starts in a neutral position... and then when she laughs at the first answer, she gets a little further away... and when she gets the response to the second question, she's very close. That also means we also get a great pull away.
Expressions again. Sakhmet's three close-ups are my everything, in how much she's saying – the downcast eyes in the third! Especially compared to the deadness of Persephone.
“I think we only get to hurt ourselves and maybe people who want to be hurt” is just :(
Pages 8-11
Reprising of issue 8, which was Dio at his most iconic. These four pages “count” as two pages in terms of page budget, in that only 4 panels are drawn on each page. That we spread it out over a larger space means it's much more emotionally impactful.
My brain is failing, but I believe Dio and Woden are the only two characters other than Laura who've ever had internal dialogue captions. That strikes me as interesting.
Cutting the dialogue short enough to make it vaguely keep to the beat was obviously important. It ticks along, relentlessly.
Matt's colouring here is, like Dio's first one, a story in and of itself – the fading colour as Dio is dragged down in the first page, the glitch on page 10, the third panel of page 11.
The “One more time” came to me as writing it, and I was genuinely horrified at myself. I can make any cultural allusion depressing. It's a gift. While at this year's Thought Bubble dancefloor, this issue was at the printers. Various friends had read it, and were there. When I dropped ‘One More Time’, I glanced at them, and thought about the unique awfulness of WicDiv, in that they knew and no one else did.
Pages 12-13
I wish I had a page or two more in the budget here. There's a couple of beats I wish I'd been able to linger on.
The drop of Dio in the first panel brought to mind the fall of 455 Lucifer.
Woden's line is harsh as fuck here, but also not entirely wrong. As we see, Cass was unaffected by Woden's power. He didn't need to do anything.
The last panel on page 12 originally had much more dialogue, and it was bullshit. I moved that to the next panel, and keep it sharper. WicDiv isn't a comic where people can shout speeches as they do stuff.
I'M A FUCKING CRITIC is much better anyway. Jamie and Matt did great stuff with the multiple levels.
“One More” makes me feel bitter too. Brunhilde's excitement is also telling. More anon on this, I suspect.
More exposition than I'd like in the last panel with Cass, but I suspect we lose you if you don't know why she's phoning Persephone.
Page 14
Yes, Persephone hasn't changed her ringtone.
We don't have space to go far into the fight here, but we have to give the two big beats. Baal's burst of power, and the specifics of the terrible speed of Sakhmet. The colour choices are what scream to me here. Each of those two central panels are so much about the individual god who is dominating them. There’s just such direct choices here.
We start on the phone, and end on Minerva's owl, to try and get a transition to...
Page 15
...Minerva. Clearly for where the story goes, we have to see Minerva in the nearby area. We wanted to show the emotional journey towards going there – that's a great conflicted last panel by Jamie. We discussed what method to use in terms of communication – specifically, we needed Minerva to have ‘READ’ notes on her phone so she knows Morrigan has seen the messages and is ignoring them. Which sets up Minerva to make her decision.
After the colours of the previous page, the low light of this one is also really striking.
Pages 16-17
The fight scenes in the Underground were all written Marvel Method, with more ideas than would fit in the space. As such, it was a question of choosing where to edit, both in terms of Jamie's choices on the page and my choices at lettering. There was certainly more possible lettering in the script... but, as I say above, I don't like fight scenes to talk too much. When this is all happening as quickly as it is, it seems to undercut it.
Boiling the exchange to the “Predator or Prey” call back seemed to be the right call to make. Boil it down.
(The other options were a reprise of Persephone's “We only get to hurt ourselves and people who want to be hurt” in the last two panels, which I felt would be too much. I'd hope it would be subtextual in it anyway.)
Page 18
We leaned into implication here – choosing the moments. The slump of the hands in the second panel is the key one for me. That's just horrible, as is Persephone's distress in the third one.
Pages 19-21
Yeah, this scene is hard, with the characters' frustrations and anger at themselves crossing back and forth. It's telling that we go to eight panel grid structure for the first two pages, which is my standard one for this kind of more emotionally grounded scene.
Worth noting the other Norns aren't there. I suspect Cass hasn't been exactly gentle with them either. Still – Cass echoes a significant proportion of the readership regarding Persephone, I suspect.
Explicitly closing off the “No Person” line from back in Imperial Phase.
Eventually Persephone reaches a point and pushes back. For both of them, it's not the lies that hurt. It's the truths. And... yeah, that argument is totally not over.
I kind of wish I had the machine go BLEEP! Rather than BEEP!
Pages 22-24
Yes, it is very much our beeping device on the mantelpiece.
Odd hitting the last page, in that it's one of the end-of-episode beats I've known seemingly forever. It is a particularly frustrating one, clearly.
We did have a bunch of chat over exactly what should that final line be. It was as mild as “Oh my” at one point, but I like the last one.
Beep Test being a fitness thing.
And that's it. A few more weeks and issue 33, the end of Imperial Phase and moving onto Year Four of the book. Just re-reading all of WicDiv so far in preparation for scripting of that year, and it's a strange thing to look at how far we've come. If you have never done a WicDiv re-read, I suspect this is a perfect time to do one.
Thanks for reading.
