Ava was born in a very rich family. She lived in a huge manor with her mother, twin brother, and younger sister, and had always been a fan of classic Disney. You'd think that Ava would have a good life with all this, but she and her siblings were very troubled kids. their father took off the second he first found out their mother was pregnant with them, they were all bullied in school just because they all shared a love for Disney movies, their mom recently had to go on a ten month business trip, Aunnie had gotten in a lab accident and got genetically fused with every type of reptile in the animal kingdom and turned into a reptile girl, and Michael had lost his hand in a car accident and had got bullied so bad for it he tried to kill himself and ended having to be sent away to a mental hospital to get help, so Ava practically lost her brother when that happened, and she didn't take it well at all, she didn't want to go to school and didn't show up to work for a few weeks.

From the very beginning of demeter's character introduction , fans would compare demeter to mother gothel and would be associating their characters with one another , and let me tell you something!It bothers the hell out of me,to this very day! Like...Don't get me wrong!I'm not going to pretend demeter hasn't made mistakes in regards to parenting persephone, and one thing she did have in common with gothel, was that she lied to her daughter about her identity(the whole fertility goddess jazz),that along with her keeping persephone sheltered, (though not nearly as much as mother gothel). and that IS something that she should be held accountable for!but...MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN GOD !!!DO YOU KNOW WHAT PERSON YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT MOTHER GOTHEL???you're talking about the woman that's outwardly been neglectful/ dismissive of her biological daughter cassandra, abandoned her,kidnapped another child for the sole purpose of leeching off said child's ability in order to keep herself young and beautiful again,NEVER genuinely felt love and affection towards her and NEVER let her have ANY connections to the outside world ,to the point that she was thrilled to touch grass!(this sounds kind of funny when you look at it through the modern definition of the phrase lol)Demeter always genuinely adored persephone with all her heart and always wanted to have a companion. Furthermore, given how the gods have constantly exploited young women within the comic's canon,it makes sense that she would be a bit more on the paranoid/protective side (not justifiable,but understandable nonetheless) to avoid her only child to be mistreated by a cruel,unjust system . Also, persephone wasn't COMPLETELY STRIPPED OUT OF COMMUNICATION WITH THE OUTSIDE WORLD,I'm tired of fans acting like flower nymphs, hermes and hecate weren't there to keep her company and given that scene where a younger kore is at a party with hera,I'd assume they still kept in touch with olympus to some extent.Overall, though similar in a few ways to gothel,demeter is ultimately a much more complex, sympathetic and loving character than she is.Hell,if demeter should be compared to any maternal figures in mainstream modern animated media , it should be alma from encanto and also ming lee from turning red, all of these women had noble, sympathetic intentions and loved their families dearly , all of them unintentionally ailienized their families and put quite a lot of pressure and expectations on them and also, all of these women had to deal with generational trauma!But nooo! Demeter is a selfish, narcissistic bitch that deserves to be mocked and get her s**t kicked in !

hi hi! everything’s pretty good, and I don’t mind long responses! they’re fun to read! but I once again agree with all of your points. I’ve seen dozens of comments get mad at Demeter because they think she’s going to use Persephone as an item, honestly if anyones going to use Persephone as an item it’s going to be Hades. he’s only ever wanted a wife because his brothers had one, which is why he wanted to pressure Minthe into marrying him even though she told him multiple times how she didn’t want to. I feel like Persephone is only supposed to be there to prove something, she’s only there as an accessory so that Hades won’t be alone and he can be more like his brothers, that’s what their relationship is giving. I just don’t understand why people would think that anyways, when has Demeter ever used Persephone as an item? she clearly loves Persephone and wants the best for her, which is why she wanted her to go to Olympus to study. not flirt around with Hades to the point that she basically dropped out of school, like honestly everyone was just fine with that? leaving all of your ambitions and your friends behind just for someone you met a few weeks ago? Demeter was just supposed sit around and let it happen? genuinely if any one of those fans had a daughter and they were in that situation they would’ve never wanted her to be with him. also, i’m glad you brought up the communication thing because Demeter did not completely isolate Persephone from everyone, we know that she had dozens of nymphs for company and other gods (like hermes, hecate, and artemis) as company as well so it’s not like she was locked up in some island with no one, she wanted to branch out and do her own thing which is fine but Demeter has seen first hand just how predatory and exploitive the kings can be. that’s literally the main reason why she didn’t want to be in Olympus like honestly think about it. I’ve been commenting in so many comment sections that are just filled with people taking Hades’ side and saying how she deserved it and good on him and it’s just filling me with so much unbridled rage because these people are not understanding that Hades is the one who deserved it, he treats all of his staff like absolute shit and he’s never once apologized for it. why is everything he does “hot”? that’s so stupid if you really idolize a person so terrible that you’re willing to embarrass yourself on his behalf I think it’s time for you to do some real self reflection and figure out why you enjoy him being an asshole so much. I’m so sick of this whole “guy was asshole till he meets girl, girl changes guy but only asshole to everyone else”, it’s the dumbest and most toxic trope ever. take it from me, as someone who’s friends with a girl whose boyfriend literally insulted and discriminated me and my friends to point that we had to confront them both just for her to tell us that he’s changed and he’s not like that, it will indeed chase people away from you. no one wants to be around a person who’s a jerk only because you’re not the person they’re with, like we learned this in kindergarten use the damn golden rule because in the long run you’re only going to isolate your loved one and keep their friends at bay if you continue to just be an absolute dickhead towards everyone. there’s so many people who project when it comes to Demeter, they say things like Demeter abused Persephone and how she’s just such a terrible character all while stanning literally all the actual problematic characters. stop being delusional and a hypocrite those are two very bad combinations, pick one. and the mother gothel comparison, well you’ve said everything I was going to say and I agree that Demeter is a very sympathetic motherly figure, she’s raised hundreds maybe even thousands of nymphs so everyone saying she isn’t a good mother is absolutely invalid because she’s basically the mother of the land, she provides love shelter and care for everyone even guests (as seen with Hades’ bitch ass when he decided to get wasted in the mortal realm) while they’re in her care.

My headcanon/thoughts about Lore Olympus’ Hel:

Appearance: she’s very skinny and blue skinned. Has messy curly hair, one half black and left half white. She looks like she’s in her late 50′s. Yellow eyes. (Basically she’s like Hecate + Cruella De Vil + Mother Gothel)

Personality: she’s a sassy cranky b*tch and a smoker and a drinker that hates her job. She doesn’t takes Odin’s sh*t and she mostly only gets along with her dog Garm, her father Loki and her siblings Fenrir and Jormungandr. She acts nice to the good shades and cruel to the evil ones, but has plans for both of them for Ragnarok. She is aware of the coming fo Ragnarok thanks to Odin’s ravens, since she was the one who gifted them to him. 

About Helheim: it’s cold and gloomy, pretty much like Hades, but unlike this last one, it’s quality is quite poor, since Odin destines most financiation and loot to other realms (mostly Valhalla and Asgard). Helheim Inc. is the main finantial source of the realm; it acts as a charitative center where the good shades “volunteer” for crafting products, the evil shades on the other hand, go through a process to make them feral (pretty much like those from tower 4/Tartarus) through a very cruel and inhuman procedure to get them ready for the war of Ragnarok, since Valhalla and Folkvangr are more military oriented.

I'll also answer for Kira so that I get to talk about all three Rasputin sisters.

Polina is the oldest sister, two-and-a-half years younger than Mischa. Polina was actually when Rasputin realized the Curse was still alive and well under the barrier because he tried to drown her when she was a few hours old and she survived for two days until Mischa got to her. She's survived the most murder attempts from her father, so many that she's on a first-name basis with literally every single person in Sanctum. She's very close to her brother, Ivy, and her niece. On top of the curse she, like her other siblings, has a repressed dark magick that can manifest just a little bit on the Isle, in life-or-death, but it always leaves her exhausted. She's a member of Uma's crew but an honorary member of Diego's Devil, Mal's Dragon, Harriet's Crew, Maverick Mim's Mutants, CJ's Crew, and the Mongol Army. The Rasputin kids, like Belle and Anna, all have this multi-allegiance, considering how often their dad will try to kill them. Polina is the only one of her siblings blessed by Hades, and one of only four people on the Isle who managed to receive this blessing before Hecate, who allowed the imprisoned gods to use magick, was caught and bound (the others being Riah, Desdemona, and Mal.)

Kira is thirteen, four years younger than Polina, and she's practically moved out with the amount of time she spends working at the hospital and with Ginny Gothel. Kira isn't just a doctor, she's an army doctor, meaning she can break every bone in your body while naming them. She has a talent for always knowing exactly what's wrong with just a superficial examination. No one knows how she does it, but she's never been wrong in her eight years of working at the hospital (yes, she started when she was five. Shan Yu tried to stop her but there's no stopping any of the Rasputin girls.) Kira isn't very close with her family, mostly because she's extremely busy, partially because Rasputin hates her guts and will hurt her siblings even more if he finds out they're talking to her. She's mostly with Ginny and the Mongols, but she does have a bit of allegiance to most of the gangs.

Nikita is the youngest Rasputin girl (not counting Pasha) at twelve, and she's easily the most dangerous Rasputin child, possibly one of the most dangerous children on the Isle. Her magick is a lot stronger. She has a magical instinct about the Isle, something that enables her to find and use magick in all of its forms. She knows the most dangerous magickal places (the Woods, the tunnels, the Dark Kingdom, etc) and how to use them. Nikita is one of the few people who can use magic on the Isle because she uses magick-with-a-k, Enochian and Latin and sigils and stuff, the kind of stuff that can't be removed from the physical world. She was dangerous enough that, when Rasputin couldn't kill her, she was surrendered to Darque so that he could try to remove her magick. It didn't work, and many believe that him trying is why The Sanatarium was abandoned and sealed. No one really knows where Nikita lives or where she spends her time, but she's always there when one of her siblings needs her. Most gangs on the Isle count her as a member.

So I looked up old Garlic folklore and myths to see if there was anything to it... And apparently there could be. 

Garlic was often considered to be medicinal. Giving strength, health and endurance. All things Gothel would like to have. ... It was also sometimes considered an aphrodisiac. 

Garlic was used to ward off more than Vampires. It was used to ward off DEMONS and DEVILS

Garlic was placed by the ancient Greeks on the piles of stones at cross-roads, as a supper for Hecate -- a goddess of the wilderness and childbirth, or for protection from demons. The garlic was supposed to the evil spirits and cause them to lose their way.

European folklore gives garlic the ability to ward off the "evil eye". Central European folk beliefs considered garlic a powerful ward against devils, werewolves, and vampires. To ward off vampires, garlic could be worn on one's person, hung in windows, or rubbed on chimneys and keyholes. When diseases caused by mosquito bites were considered "The touch of the vampire," garlic came in handy as a mosquito repellent.

So one could take this as just garlic hung there for eating purposes.. Or to possibly WARD OFF anyone supernatural who might come looking for her. Since clearly Gothel severed ties with her old master.

(Lou Ellen is divine but Magica’s tongue has always been silver and the daughter of Hecate fears susceptibility because has she not always been holding back? She’s got no idea what she’s even capable of! And she doesn’t want to give Magica any kind of leverage. At all.)

And the thing is: everyone knows that King Ben has sent Harriet Hook on a solo mission to infiltrate Magica’s lair; it’s been weeks now and she’s still not back. CJ barely sleeps anymore and whenever Uma doesn’t need him, Harry keeps his eyes firmly trained on the horizon, almost as if he can make his sister to return to the people that love her through sheer force of will alone.

Ginny Gothel is worried and Anthony Tremaine paces and paces and paces until he can pace no more and then Ginny, whose face is ever so pretty, reaches out to him, tugs at his hands until he sits down and she sits down in his lap, whispering reassurances to each other.

His captain would be back, triumphant.

Her frenemy would be back, victorious.

Harriet Hook would return with intel that would turn this tide, that would give them the upper hand.

Lou Ellen shares a look with Nico. He looks grim, grimmer than usual, and while she knows and respects that the son of Hades isn’t always the one for physical contact, she nestles against him anyway because they can both use the reminder that they’re still here, alive.

They both know that the eldest Hook isn’t coming back. Just like Cecil isn’t coming back.  

“I told you I was done.” And he’d meant it. Nico knows that he’d meant whaat he said  when he’d told  Lou  Ellen he was done. They  were supposed to have peace-- he was tired of fighting. And now he was just done with it. His last battle  had been fought and lost-- he couldn’t  do it  anymore. “I’m not coming back.”

Still, he hugs her when she leans against him. “I  just can’t do it,” he  says quietly. “I tried, I tried, but I couldn’t.... he’s gone.  Cecil’s  gone, and I can’t bring him back.”  The words hurt just to say. “You should leave  with  me, you and Will. This  isn’t our fight anymore.”

Backstory:

After their father left, Crystal Burmahn (Aunnie, Ava, and Michael's mother) wanted a third child two years after Ava and Michael were born, so she cloned herself in her lab and created Aunnie Burmahn. Aunnie was a human being for the first 11 years of her life and had always loved reptiles and classic Disney movies (which is a love their whole family shared). But one day, she was hanging out in her moms lab, got too close to a gene altering machine, and got genetically fused with every type of reptile in the animal kingdom, turning her into half reptile half human hybrid. The whole ordeal was very scary for her, so every time she hears a loud siren, has to get a shot or sees flashing lights or lasers, she gets reminded of that traumatic experience and has a panic attack.

so i don’t know about active muses, but I have three active blogs at the moment: this one, @mutedmascot , and @fiercefrizz .  my second multi @rapidfired​ is pretty dead right now until i revamp it.  but between the three active blogs, i have 22 muses!  20 here and 2 with their own blogs.  ( although i guess if you only count my primary and secondary muses on this blog plus the two solos, it’d only be 14-ish??  so 14-22.  [leslie knope vc: math is hard] )

bonnie stabbington, henrika westergaard, and kira hart are descendants ocs as well, and a tiny trio of tyranny.  ( and if you buy the westergaard-stabbington relation theory, that technically makes bonnie and henrika cousins. )

i hc a cousinly relationship between jane and the charmings, and that includes my baby girl cynthia.

on my dormant multi, i have a few pjo children of hecate: emmett shea, silvia keys, imogene speller, and marcela sinagtala.

emmett also has a bff trio of his own with ruth guerra (daughter of ares) and jess abrams (son of apollo).

ginny gothel and mad maddy are both in a murder-y gang, so that counts.

oh, and kassander and britta bjorgman are siblings as well.  and jensen rafferty and linnea rafferty are twins.

ginny holds any hosility toward any relative/offspring of rapunzel, which is a little ironic considering how eugenia fitzherbert started out as a parent!swap au of ginny ( and has since become her own character totally separate from that, but her original roots are actually ginny. )

ally liddell and jane are in the same a capella group and are friends.  ( and ally’s sos book claimed they were best friends, but tbh i’m ignoring that for my own reasons. )
