Count himself blessed, but it could have gone worse for him at the Gala. He definitely had worse luck when it came to the music festival. Zane wished he could say he didn’t hold a grudge, but that would be a lie. With a slow hum he walked through the park and tried to enjoy those that were fortunate like him to walk around. The weather wasn’t freezing, and there was a slight overcast. However over all the walk through the park did him good. It helped prepare him for his future nap before he picked back into the graveyard shift at the funeral home.

Zane paused enough to take a seat on the grass. His eyes locked with the clouds above almost to the point he hadn’t noticed the figure in front of him.He blinked when he thought he heard a voice, and focused on the person in front of him. “What did you say?” He listened intently for the answer, while he fished out the pack of cigarettes from his pocket.

Depending on where you are in the hotel, you’ve either had a night of quickly mounting tension or a night of … relative relaxation. The blizzard still mourns outside, howling through the blanketed streets and hurling its flurries at the hotel which sways beneath your feet if you stand still for long enough. The patrons locked in their quarters can do nothing but let the rocking lull them to sleep in hopes they’ll find their ways home by daybreak. Of course, there are still plenty of winter hours to get through before the sun can peel away the darkness, and just as sleep filters in through your lashes, you hear a ‘ click. ’ Everyone around you hears it, too, and for once there’s unity in the room as the group decides as a unit to investigate. Well, save for one, who is well aware of what that click means. It comes from the bathroom, so you all venture in, and the locked door stationed by the sink swings open. Standing on the other side of the threshold—and looking just as befuddled—are your neighbors, those five in the adjacent room who look just as cold and hungry as you do. It’s a good and bad thing; you’ll have more company, more snacks to go around courtesy of the minibar and, with any luck, more friends than enemies in one place, though you still find a few idle pairs of steely eyes narrowing on you.

In short, there’s a bright side and a not-so-bright side: each room has opened up via the bathroom to allow a bigger expanse for you and your fellow patrons to explore, though the possibility of it all leading to even more tension is too high for comfort. Still, it’s better to cozy up with nine other bodies than only four … right ?

PART II of the Lights Out event has begun ! This part will conclude on TUESDAY, DECEMBER 8TH at 9 P.M. EST. For this part of the event, your characters’ rooms have opened, allowing muses to move between the room they’ve been assigned to and the adjacent one.

While Cas had been raised in Washington DC, he spent every other holiday in Guadeloupe and spent much of his life in the Sunlight Kingdom - a world of heat - so he didn’t do very well with snow. He was shivering through his jacket.

He hesitates when Zane offers him their jacket, worried they’ll get cold, but then remembers their ice magic.

“Thank you.” Cas smiles, reaching for it, before having a realisation that makes him laugh. “Darling, I’m twice the size of you. There’s no way this will fit.”

I mean, I was here and then left because of muse issues, after I left my muse returned and with a bit of editing I’ve got the muse flowing strongly again.

Remus and Sirius, I truly identify with them both equally. I’ve always been the weird, quiet kid who seemed too secretive and was bullied. But I also am a rebel who eventually learned how to stand up for myself and others. I’m like the stereotypical parts of both their characters combined.

♔ REASON FOR CHOSEN CHARACTER

I used to love writing the anti-hero or heroic characters who did horrible things for good reasons. In recent months I have found a new love in writing darker characters. There’s a certain power in a character who has no morals. He would slit a man’s throat and then fuck someone next to his corpse without a second thought. He has no boundaries. There are no lines he won’t cross. The things he does, he does for himself. He’s a Death Eater but I believe he made the decision to join the group because of what they do, not who they follow. I will play him more in that light than as if he was another completely blind follower of Voldemort.

Previously I said that Cassius is both perfect for me as a character and challenging. I’ve fallen into a rut of writing characters who have low self esteem and mostly hate themselves, but Cassius is vain and that single aspect of his personality is going to be a fun challenge for me to work through. His determination, pragmatism, and ferocity fits perfectly into what I’m used to writing. However, now having written him before, I already have a solid hold on who he is as a character

All of that is from previous applications but to add to it… Whenever I read other people’s replies to my son I get like butterflies in my stomach and it’s a nervous excitedness every time. I realized even after leaving the group I got excited to talk about threads and talk about the group and I knew immediately that leaving had been a mistake. Leaving reminded me of all the reasons I was here to start with, not all of them are about Cassius per say but still.

♔ PREFERRED SHIPS/ANTI-SHIPS // CHARACTER SEXUALITY // GENDER & PRONOUNS

I have no specific anti-ships and the only ship I have is Cassius and Augustus, but chemistry is the biggest thing for me. Because he’s a purist he wouldn’t be with anyone who wasn’t pure blooded. He also wouldn’t be quick to jump into a relationship. He’s generally more of a one night stand type person, however, he develops attachments to people and will continue having a friendly/sexual relation with them. Whenever things get to serious though, he backs off.

As far as sexuality, he is pansexual. He doesn’t care what genitals a person has or how they identify themselves, what he cares about is if the person is attractive and if they interest him. His pronouns are he/him, if you can’t tell by my extensive use of them already in this application haha.

♔ If you were able to invent one spell, potion, or charm, what would it do, what would you use it for or how would you use it? Feel free to name it:

“I want a spell that causes people to drop their guard. I’m sure there are a multitude of potions that do the same thing, but I’ve always been bad with potions. A spell would be so much more convenient. The spell itself would be “fiduciam” which is Latin for trust.”

♔ You have to venture deep into the Forbidden Forest one night. Pick one other character and one object (muggle or magical), besides your wand, that you’d want with you:

“Augustus Rookwood, he’s the only person I would trust to be alone in the forest with me. As for the object, I know it may sound odd but I would take a gun. They’re surprisingly useful considering they’re muggle made.”

♔ What kinds of decisions are the most difficult for you to make?

“Decisions that revolve around my emotions. Some choices are easy, they’re clear and precise and the logical answer seems almost the only answer. As soon as the heart is involved, however, it becomes difficult to decide because no matter what the logical answer is, it’s hard to hurt yourself to do what needs to be done.

♔ What is one thing you would never want said about you?

“That I was weak. I am many things but weak is not and will never be one of them.”

WRITING SAMPLE

July 3rd, 1974

Cassius stood in the frigid night air, waiting for his father to join him just outside the Mulciber Estate property line. He knew this was death eater business, but beyond that he didn’t know anything about what they were doing that night. His father had made promise after promise that they would soon take the required steps for Cassius to receive his dark mark, but so far they had done nothing. Eyes focused on the stars in the sky above him, he didn’t hear Gerard Mulciber walk up behind him and the hand placed on his shoulder caused him to jump slightly. Thankfully his father’s grip on his shoulder was tight as he apparated the both of them away from their estate.

The dark alleyway formed around them, coming into focus as they reached their destination. Gerard turned, walking through a doorway hidden by magic, he absorbed into the brick the way students did as they raced to board the Hogwarts Express. Cassius followed behind him, pulling his wand from his pocket just in case he had occasion to use it. As he emerged into the room he was taken aback by the sight before him. The girl magically bound and gagged in a chair at the center of the room caught his attention first, but it didn’t take long for him to notice the masked figures that lined the walls. Their dark cloaks pulled heavily towards the ground, eerily quiet as they remained still and unmoving, no rustling to be heard. Cassius suddenly felt tiny, insignificant, he felt surrounded and closed in, despite the fact that there were only three death eaters in the room, including his father.

“What is this?” He said with an angry glance towards Gerard.

A stinging pain ran through his head as Gerard smacked him on the back of his skull. “The fact that you’re too idiotic to figure it out on your own should be the first sign that you’re unworthy of the mark. Unfortunately, they don’t agree,” Gerard spat angrily, gesturing towards the death eaters who stood around them. Cassius’ eyes traced around each figure trying to identify any of them, but he couldn’t. A hand gently rested against his back, the feeling was almost as shocking as the smack had been. “The girl,” his father said as he gestured towards the poor girl in the middle of the room, “she’s a muggleborn, so are her siblings.” As if on cue a large cloaked and masked death eater walked through the door, a young girl on his left and a boy on his right, neither could be older than eight. “You’re going to kill her in front of them.”

Cassius’ blood ran cold and he couldn’t stop the chills that ran across his skin. He’d done many terrible things while at Hogwarts but murder was not anywhere on that list. “I know this is supposed to be a challenge for me but shouldn’t I be allowed to decide what I do? Since the whole point is for me to prove myself?” His voice was shakier than he anticipated, but he just hoped his father wouldn’t take notice.

“Fine, do what you want, but the end result must be the same. The girl will die and you will be the cause.” Gerard shoved his son forward viciously, forcing him towards the girl.

Cassius tightened his grip on his wand, acting as if all of this was perfectly normal. He couldn’t show weakness, couldn’t show how terrified he was. There had to be a way for him to do this and flaunt his strength while trying to keep calm. He took a calming breath before allowing the incantation to slip from his lips. “Imperio,” the familiar spell came out easily, the motions flowing through his wrist naturally. It was a spell he had used often at Hogwarts during his free time. The unforgivable curse canceled out the weaker spells that bound her to the chair and Cassius watch with satisfaction as the girl rose from her seat and walked over to stand in front of him. He pulled a small folding knife from his pocket and gave it to her before forcing her to turn and move to her siblings’ side. She moved the knife to rest against the other girl’s throat.

For a moment, Cassius felt guilty. How could he do this? How could he force someone to kill their sister? But he knew he had no choice. Trying not to linger on bad thoughts he flicked his wand and the girl dragged the knife across her sister’s throat. She crumpled to the ground hands around her throat but he didn’t dwell on her despite the fact that she would live for the next several minutes. Moving his puppet over to stand in front of the boy, he had her drop the knife and pull out her wand. With the tip pressed against her brother’s chest, it didn’t take a genius to know what he would do next. As the killing curse slid from the girl’s mouth, a flash of green lit the room and the boy collapsed onto the ground. Cassius felt disgusted with himself. He was dizzy and ill and didn’t know if he was going to make it through this without being sick.

He pushed his illness aside, knowing he still had to kill the girl. He had to get creative, no simple killing curse was going to satisfy these men. They wouldn’t accept the same method of killing twice. Swallowing the lump in his throat, he forced her to turn her wand on herself a small incantation falling from her lips. “Incendio.” As the flames quickly engulfed her body, Cassius realized this had been a mistake. Her screams filled the small room drowning out all other sound and thought. Quietly, praying his father wouldn’t hear him, he hissed out the killing curse, the flash of green hidden within the flames. Her body dropped to the floor and he flicked his wrist, putting out the flames.

“It’s done.” It had lasted no longer than two minutes, but he felt like it had been a lifetime.

Without comment or even gesture, all the death eaters apparated from the room, apparating the bodies away with them. Cassius was left standing alone in the empty room with his father. Pride and excitement filled his chest. Was that it? Had he passed their tests? Did he get to be a death eater now? As he turned to face Gerard, his stomach dropped, dread and panic replacing his earlier emotions. Gerard glared down at him, anger and disappointment painting his features. “You didn’t kill anyone. She did and when you finally had the balls to kill her it was only to put her out of her misery. You are pathetic and weak. If it were up to me I would never make you a death eater.” Cassius kept his mouth shut allowing his father to finish. “You had better promise me that from now on you’ll kill without mercy and without fear. Otherwise, you will have something new to fear.”

Swallowing his pride, Cassius bowed his head slightly, “I promise, Father.” Little did he know that promise was going to haunt him for years to come.

How Control Actually Exists In Alan Wake's Universe | Screen Rant

There is evidence to suggest Remedy's games Control and Alan Wake take place in the same universe. The latest project from Remedy Entertainment, Control, builds on the foundations of the developer's previous projects, from Max Payne to Alan Wake. The latter title, originally released in 2010 as an Xbox 360 exclusive, has a lot in common with Control, to the point where pre-release speculation suggested the games might be connected somehow, perhaps even sharing continuity with one another.

Now that Control is out in the wild, we've spent a lot of time playing the game and doing our best to uncover all the secrets of The Oldest House. The Federal Bureau of Control deals with unexplained phenomena throughout the world. It's like if The X-Files were well-funded and Fox Mulder had complete authority over its dealings. When it comes to unexplained events, few compare to the premise of Alan Wake. A psychological thriller packed with wall-to-wall action and a seeming obsession with Twin Peaks, Alan Wake involves the eponymous writer finding himself in a fight for survival when his own writing begins coming to life... And that's just the tip of the iceberg for the surreal, scary, empowering, and harrowing adventure.

The events of Alan Wake fit the bill of an AWE, or Altered World Event, which fall under the jurisdiction of the Federal Bureau of Control. Incidents involving Altered Items, Altered World Events, and Objects of Power happen all over the world, and extensive paperwork can be found all over the game world, shedding some light on these mysterious occurrences.

Fairly early on, a document can be found explaining an altered item which should look familiar to fans of Alan Wake: a coffee thermos. Players of that 2010 game surely remember the grueling optional task of collecting 100 such thermoses scattered all over the game world. Altered Items look like ordinary objects, like a cup, a floppy disk, a refrigerator, etc, but they possess unique traits that make them special, or even dangerous. This particular Altered Item, as described by the document, the aptly titled Thermos Procedures, is a blue coffee thermos whose coffee is always "refreshing and strong, no matter its quality before being poured into the item."

At first, this seems like an innocent Easter Egg meant as an acknowledgement of Remedy's past, but reading on reveals greater meaning, further connections which transcend mere fanservice. Control's Alan Wake references aren't just winks and nods; they're a full-on plot thread!

The Thermos Procedures paper is more than just an Easter Egg. The document states it was found in Bright Falls, Washington. The town is said to be the site of an Altered World Event involving a man named Alan Wake. Obviously, this is a clear reference to the events of that game, in which Alan Wake becomes embroiled in a supernatural surreal mystery, thus confirming that Alan Wake is part of the greater universe of Control.

The document has another tantalizing detail: Alan Wake was considered for the Prime Candidate Program. The story of Control shows that Prime Candidates are people whose supernatural acumen is such that they are in the running to be the Director of the Federal Bureau of Control. Dylan Faden was Candidate P6, while player character Jesse Faden (Dylan's sister) is Candidate P7. A bit of investigation in the Prime Candidate Program section of Containment reveals Alan Wake himself was considered to be a potential choice by the Bureau to be a future director, but those plans came to naught, since Wake disappeared after the Bright Falls incident. According to the report, Wake dived into Cauldron Lake and was never seen again.

The events of Alan Wake's DLC chapters and standalone expansion, Alan Wake's American Nightmare, are thus inferred to all take place within Alan's time trapped in The Dark Place at the end of the original Alan Wake. Control states that a monitoring station was established at the lake, but the lack of any documentation afterwards suggests Alan is still trapped in his mysterious limbo.

It's established early on that former Director Zachariah Trench can communicate, or at least send one way messages, to Jesse. He's dead, but his essence still exists, and is often projected into the game world, visible only to the current director, Jesse. If Alan Wake and Control exist in the same universe, there is evidence this version of the afterlife is possibly connected to The Dark Place from Alan Wake. The story of Alan Wake, among many other things, involves the title character's efforts to rescue his wife from The Dark Place. In the end, he does, but at the cost of putting himself in her stead. The game, and all its DLC, end with Alan trapped in The Dark Place.

For all the Easter Eggs and clues it's provided to lore sleuths, the Thermos Procedures document still has more to give. In addition to the aforementioned information, the provocative paper also offers up the location of the Thermos itself: Floor 05, Unit 05 of the Panopticon. This isn't just flavor text to add immersion; Jesse can actually go there. She has to use Levitation to bypass a large gap, but she can go there and find two Altered Items and a pair of documents. One Item is, of course, the thermos, but the other is far more exciting. It's a Typewritten Page, and looking at it triggers a vision of Alan Wake himself, seemingly communicating with Jesse from The Dark Place. The visuals are eerily similar to the way Trench communicates from beyond the grave.

Could Trench and Wake be in the same place? Is it somehow connected to the mysterious Astral Plane or the numerous Threshold events throughout The Oldest House? Thresholds events are described in Control as alternate dimensions seeping through into our reality, and The Dark Place of Alan Wake is referred to as a Threshold in the Bright Falls Supplement document in Control. Is the afterlife simply another dimension of existence? Or is the entire multiverse nothing but fiction made manifest through a mix of the supernatural and pure willpower?

Just when things start to make sense, a new clue arises that throws everything out of whack. A common fan theory for Alan Wake was that the events of the game were all a fiction created by Thomas Zane, a poet and fantasy author. Variants on the theory suggest Alan Wake himself is a fictional creation of Zane, made real by his writing, or even vice versa, that Zane was written into existence across time and space by Alan Wake.

The audio recording found in Control, "Jesse Therapy: Polaris," possesses certain... Implications. Jesse talks about a poem by Thomas Zane, "Beyond the shadow you settle for, there is a miracle illuminated." It's a quote from Alan Wake, attributed to Zane. However, the therapist claims there is no poet named Thomas Zane. She says there was a European filmmaker who moved to the United States in the 1960s by that name, but Thomas Zane is not an accomplished writer in the universe of Control.

What does it mean? If Alan Wake and Control exist in the same universe, why isn't Thomas Zane a known entity in Control? Is Control set in a parallel universe where Zane isn't an acclaimed poet? Then where is Jesse from? Perhaps, if Zane is a figment of Alan Wake's imagination, his existence ceases to be while Wake is trapped in The Dark Place. The Therapy tape ends with a cryptic note from the doctor, who insists no progress can be made until Jesse can get a grip on "What's real and what's imagined."

But there's more. Maybe Remedy games are set in a vast multiverse, but said multiverse is based on human imagination, rather than science fiction. During optional conversations with Dylan, who has been deeply corrupted by The Hiss, he can tell Jesse of his dreams, of other realities. He talks about a figure named "Mr. Door," who shows him other realities. One, in which a writer creates stories about a cop. Another in which the cop is real. Alan Wake wrote the Alex Casey novels, stories of a hard-boiled New York City cop. Alex Casey was clearly based on Max Payne, to the point where Payne's actor, James McCaffrey (who also voiced Thomas Zane and Zachariah Trench), plays Casey in a brief cameo as a direct tribute to his role as Payne. Thomas Zane and Alan Wake are both trapped in The Dark Place. Maybe all of existence, all of the Remedy games to date, chronicle their attempts to write a scenario into existence that saves them from their unhappy fate. This is further hinted at when Dylan muses, of the various universes glimpsed in his dreams, "Maybe it's all a dream," followed by the ominous statement: "Maybe it's all real."

Remedy games are written in such a way that they have a definitive story to tell, but also a lot of grey space for fans to draw their own conclusions. Jesse and Dylan are brother and sister, but they both have unisex names and Jesse has knowledge (of Thomas Zane) that doesn't seem to exist in her universe. Are Jesse and Dylan the same person from two different universes? For this reason, is Jesse herself an Object of Power? Another of Dylan's dreams shows himself as a single person, Jesse Dylan Faden. Was Jesse Dylan somehow broken up into two people, Jesse and Dylan? By whom, and for what purpose?

Like in the best fiction, the search for definitive answers only leads to an exponential increase in questions. The lore of Control, and of the potential Remedy multiverse, is not a shallow lake, but a deep ocean. The answers aren't easy to find, if they're there at all, but it's worth diving in to experience for oneself the richness and depth of the storytelling water provided by Sam Lake and his team at Remedy. One thing's all but assured: Remedy has big plans for the future of Control and Alan Wake.
