nother thought that has injected itself in my brain because i no longer have free will: I find it interesting how Kai in dragons rising seems to always fill in during silence. When sneaking into Imperium w/ Wyldfyre and the gang? He doesn't make Wyldfyre go quiet but instead just tones her volume down during the whole dun dun da dun scene. When going back to the Cragling Village? Narrating to himself. At the monastery by himself? Again narrating to himself and talking to the computer like its his only friend there. Hell even with Wu's ghost spirit. Hes just excited to be famous among ghost because its talking back to him! But in the nightmare cave. He doesn't speak after the whole thing. Only speaking once they leave the cave. Relaying on Nya's voice rather than his own. And when he and Nya are walking in season 3 he makes popping noises during the silence like hes trying to fill in for it. Are some of these instances just me being crazy and grabbing onto the smallest things? Probably! But what if man. What if he can't stand the silence anymore because of how little communication he really had in the land of monsters?

I mean butterflies are a common symbol for transformation right? It just so happens to be his motif, a pink butterfly being sewn onto the left side of his sweater (where his heart is). Also in the beach designs, he's covering his chest too

Even in this official art (Desmond and wenona look so FINE but that's not the main focus here) Kai is basically fully covered. I'm pretty sure swimming binders do exist, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's why he doesn't reveal his bare chest like most of the male cast.

I mean, its also possible it ties into him as a person. He begun as an influencer by posting edited photos of himself. He's definitely not as confident as he makes himself out to be.

Anyways an alt colour and silly version (and now ANOTHER alt version because I’m indecisive)

I spent a time amount of time on it that should’ve felt long but didn’t, i had way too much fun with the fill in lasso tool that made my life easier when i had no idea where to go after the sketch. And how to do the line-art for it, my God the amount of times i suffer when at that phase.

If I’m being perfectly honest, i think this is okay, but i’m not entirely sure if it’s good. Like i feel like it could be sm better. Anyways i just remembered exactly why i did this drawing and its because my amazing mutual @rusted-fairy-wings sent an ask on my birthday to draw possessed Kai and this is the result omg thank you sm for that its like you slapped me with the realisation i’ve never drawn them like this before. I know its not really possessed Kai but i hope it gives the same vibes 😭

Also i took the rust thing because, you knowwww, Kai was a blacksmith and fire can cause rust. And i think if Morro were to possess Kai, that guy would put in so much effort to ruin himself so Morro wouldn’t and couldn’t use him as a tool. Especially with such a huge loss of control as a man who is so used to being in control with everything he’s been through. But thats why i used ‘hold onto me’ rather than ‘hold me’, because Morro would either gain entertainment from Kai’s suffering, would feel some sort of kinship with Kai due to their similar (yet differing) circumstances, or because he knows how to use Kai in the state he had forced himself into against the ninja.

hey. hey guys. do u ever think about the fact that kai's whole motive and will to live during the time he was in the land of monsters was his friends and family. getting back to them and seeing them again, being with them again and in their arms again, that was his main and most cherished priority and was the only thing that even kept him alive despite the hell he was going through

and the reason why he's so silly and cheerful during DR is because he's bottling up everything. he sees what happened during his time at the land of monsters as meaningless now, a mere dream (or rather nightmare), he's back with his friends and family!!! the people who he literally made through hell and survived just to see them again!!!!! he doesn't care even if the trauma is genuienly hurting him, he's back with the people that motivated him and were the entire reason he didn't die

What if Kai looked so absolutely devastated in the Phantasm Cave episode in s2 bcs he was thrown back into traversing the merged lands after he had spent so long trying to push down the desolate feeling of being so vulnerable to becoming something completely other.

Like he was was kept together by his family all of his life, without them he will transform into some vile creature and who he had believed to be for so long was just a scrap of measly fabric, a relation, a lucky coincidence. His desperate attempt to cling to his identity (aka his red headband) nothing but a strangely out of place vulnerability to everyone who meets and preys upon him.

damon maitsu is definitely not straight LMAO his interactions with Kai in chapter 1 have been enough to prove that. Not to mention saying the male celebrity pin up calendar was "pretty sexy". No straight man says that Damon idk.

Him and Kai both sleeping longer when they shared a bed, and always being together in official arts, NOT TO MENTION the valentine's day art where Damon received a package from a secret admirer with butterflies around him and the box being in Kai's signature colours (amber and pink). Oh I know what you BOTH are queers.
