Important info about Bulgaria to the non-Bulgarian speaking people who might see this:

The word gender is used as a slur in my country, on the same level as fag and tranny. Any time someone says abolish genders/no gender(s)/gender propaganda, swap gender with the other two words. There won't be any difference. The Bulgarian language doesn't have a differentiation between gender and sex, the closest thing to the English gender is rod/род which mean grammatical gender (as well as lineage/family, depends on context) so that one is not used outside of grammar. The term social/societal sex has been introduced as a possible translation and might be the most common translation for gender.

The lack of a word for gender in the language makes conversations about trans rights extremely difficult because the Bulgarian people do not (more like refuse to understand) the concept behind gender. We understand gender roles and how different the woman-man roles are as a somewhat religious country that loves "the good ol' days", we have gender in that sense, but not on paper. So any trans related conversation starts with explaining the bastardisation of the word gender, how it should be translated into Bulgarian, the difference between sex and gender and examples of gender roles.
