இன்றைய கதை: ஒரு ஊரில் ஒரு திருடன் இருந்தான். அவன் தினமும் திருடப் போவதற்கு முன்னர், ஒரு கோவிலுக்குள் நுழைந்து “சாமி, இன்னிக்கு எனக்கு நல்ல வரும்படி கிடைக்க வேண்டும்” என்று வேண்டிக்கொண்டு புறப்படுவான். அந்தக் கோவில் மண்டபத்தில் தினமும் ஒரு சாமியார் உபந்யாசம்/ சொற்பொழிவு ஆற்றிவந்தார். சில நேரங்களில் அங்கிருக்கும் கூட்டம் சிரிப்பதைக் கேட்டு நாமும் சாமியார் சொல்லும் ‘ஜோக்’கைக் கேட்போமே என்று போவான். நல்ல குட்டிக் கதைகள் சொன்னால் அதையும் கேட்டுவிட்டு திருடப் போவான். ஒரு நாள் அவனுக்கு பூர்வ ஜன்ம வாசனையால் ஞானோதயம் ஏற்பட்டது. பகற்பொழுதில் அந்த சாமியார் இருக்கும் குடிலுக்குச் சென்று, “குருவே! வணக்கம் பல! எனக்கு ஒரு மந்திரம் சொல்லித் தாருங்களேன்” என்றான். அவரும் , “மகனே! நீ யார்?” என்று கேட்டார். அவன் கூசாமல் உண்மையைச் சொன்னான்: “நான் ஒரு பக்காத்திருடன்! பத்து வயது முதல் திருட்டுத் தொழில்தான் செய்து வருகிறேன்” சாமியார் : அடக் கடவுளே! வேறு எதுவும் நல்ல தொழில் செய்யக்கூடாதா?
