To me, Machete kind of has the energy of a secondary villain/coldhearted side character in someone else's story that a lot of fans latch onto, moreso than the protagonist. Question is, would he be the villain in anyone's story?
Why, thank you! I'm actually glad to hear he gives off that vibe. I don't think he set out to become a villain but a lot of people certainly view him as one.
#in the 16th century canon he starts out as an introverted but sincerely well meaning guy that never quite manages to find his social niche#he was a sensitive kid and when subjected to enough pressure#his insecurity fearfulness and powerlessness mutate into distrust resentment aggression suffocating repression and self-restraint#I don't think he's a bad person in fact he consistently tries very hard to do the right thing#do his job properly avoid letting people down and get through life with a sense of dignity#but he is supposed to come across kind of cold impersonable and difficult to be around if you don't know him personally (and very few do)#people can sense there's something wrong with him and are put off by it#Vatican is a nest of vipers and as the stakes rise he retreats deeper into his coldblooded untouchable work persona#he has no choice but to start lying scheming blackmailing and eliminating his enemies#in order to maintain his position keep Vasco safe their relationship under wraps and his own head above water#essentially playing by the same rules everyone else in the holy see has been playing with for centuries#eventually he loses his spot as the secretary of state and is manipulated/forced to take on a role in the roman inquisition#and if people were sort of iffy about him before being the authority overseeing trials torture excommunications and executions doesn't help#and since he has so few allies and such an infamous reputation he's an easy target for scapegoating whenever necessary#towards the end it dawns on him that he's become the kind of twisted cruel corrupt person he used to fear and despise#and the guilt moral injury and abject self-loathing had largely sapped him of his will to live by the time the final assassin gets him#answered#anonymous#Machete#Vaschete lore#he thought his dream of priesthood would make him a better person more worthy of admiration safety and love but he climbed too high#and got roped up in the dangerous games that take place under god's nose and slowly got strangled to death

Don’t you lot burn your saviours?
Tomlen’s thoughts on Andraste, the Creators and the Chantry are complicated, and unfortunately inescapable. He does not mind fixing the Breach and cleaning up after dragons and demons, but religion and politics remain difficult swords to juggle and keep in the air- and something he can’t ignore for long.

“You know I hate watching the Knicks alone!”
“SO DO I!!!!”
I’mma address something understated about this show. I love, love, LOVE how they depicted Sally and Gabe’s relationship.
I think what the media fails to show oftentimes is that in toxic relationships, there’s a lot of give and take. If being with somebody “unhealthy” was all misery, nobody would ever choose to be with them. If we were completely subjugated, we would never allow that subjugation to begin with. I stayed with my boyfriends (and girlfriends) because they made me feel special. They made me feel like I was the only one in the world who understood them. They showered me with gifts and WILDLY exaggerated flattery and obsessive devotion. I needed that. I needed to feel like I was important. So despite the controlling behaviors and the dismissal and the belittling and the fact that they ignored who I really was as a person? I stayed. They called me their Jessica Day and their Haruhi Suzumiya and their Clara Oswald and their hero. It wasn’t all evil all the time.
That’s not how these things work. There are good times. There is fun. There are things we have in common with our abusers and our toxic partners. We like their company for a reason. Nobody is a monster 100% of the time.
Percy’s mom has a voice. She has agency. She is a survivor, not a victim. And this show really goes out of its way to show that. There’s banter between her and Gabe. There is a clear illustration of what he brings to HER life as well as what she brings to his. This show is interested in three dimensional people - not in tropes or stock characters. This show is interested in grey areas and in emotion and in truth.
And that alone separates it from… most of what is on television (streaming, whatever) these days. There’s heart here. There’s a dedication to faithfully recreating not only what this book series brought to people’s lives, but to illustrating what all this would look like on a realistic world stage. It’s… frightfully well made. And maybe I’m just jaded because cinema has really fucking sucked as of late with all the cash grabs and the franchise formulation and the IPs and the rampant, capitalistic greed for more, more, more…
But Percy Jackson and the Olympians?
…it’s damn fucking good, you guys. From character work to storytelling, this shit is tightly written, expertly plotted (as adaptions go - RR gets credit where credit is due, of course…), and full of life. Those things alone put it leagues above the rest of the shit on our platforms today.
I HATE THAT I HAVE TO WAIT FOR THIS WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME DISNEY

What do you think would have happened if (somehow, idk how but somehow) Machete rose to the rank of pope?
To be perfectly honest? I think most realistically he would've ruled maybe six months at best and then keeled over from stress and exhaustion.

Idk if anyone has asked you yet but Ive recently stumbled onto your characters and I love their designs!! I was wondering if I could ask what your Warden, Hawke and Inquisitor are like? Maybe their classes and who they romanced in game?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
thank you SO MUCH for the ask! i have been sitting on these oc templates (original templates by hchomgoblin) for a while and i finally got the excuse to share them!
ramblings and proper capital letters under the cut
Etmeres Mahariel • Warden Commander • Warrior • Berserker/Reaver/Spirit Warrior • 24 years (Origins), 35 years (Inquisition), 201 cm, he/him
Etmeres comes across as stern and cool but he is not unkind. Born to two ancient elves and being raised by them until he was eight has left him feeling alienated from the world of Thedas, especially when his perception of the world is already different as someone with autism. Even if he comes off as intimidating because of his serious expression and blunt way of speaking, he is gentle and compassionate. To his companions he is a socially awkward softie but to his enemies he is a ruthless opponent.
Fun fact: Etmeres can read, write, and speak elven but he prefers to keep it a secret.
__________________
Sterling Hawke • Champion • Mage • Blood Mage • Spirit Healer • 23 years (II), 35 years (Inquisition) 177 cm, he/him
Sterling is nothing if not suave and charming. That does not mean he's necessarily nice. During his time in Ferelden, he contracted tuberculosis and he was sent to the Frostback Mountains by his parents to tend to the illness. During the months spent there, he had ample time to study and educate himself. He now uses that education to sell the image of himself as a true businessman. He likes to describe himself as a "gentleman bastard."
Fun fact: Sterling isn't a dog person and was appalled when the Hawke family dog imprinted on him.
__________________
Glendimar Lavellan • Inquisitor • Rogue • Tempest • 30 years (Inquisition), 170 cm, she/her
Glen is clever and a natural born leader but due to her mistakes in her past that lead to a lot of clan Lavellan's hunters dying, she is reluctant to accept a leadership position again. She is wise beyond her years and prone to melancholia because of her experiences in Kirkwall. Most of the time, however, she is spirited and passionate, a force to be reckoned with both in battles and intellectual debates.
Fun fact: Glen used to build and repair aravels but now woodwork is just a hobby to her.

which of your stories are you most proud to have finished? are there any little details you put into your stories that you're particularly proud of? 💜
Hey, Mer! Thank you for asking c:
Hmmm taking this in two ways:
Proud to have finished as in, proud that I managed to finish it has to be Wander the Drifting Roads, which is one of my two long fics. I was editing while I was posting and caught up to the point I'd edited to, which caused me disproportionate stress haha. For a minute, I wasn't sure I was ever going to get that last chapter into a state I was okay with posting. I briefly considered walking away, but I am so glad I didn't!! It is still one of my favorite things I've written.
Proud that I wrote in general is probably Palimpsest, which 1) I still feel clever over the name and 2) that section of act 2 remains the crunchiest Dragon Age thing to me (it is just so!!!! *paragraph deleted*) and 3) I love writing from inside Fenris's head and I am very, very proud of how the fic came out in general.
*gets out the red string* okay so you know how there are a bunch of statues of people in random poses that don't really look like they're carved from anything? and how Solas froze a ton of people in Trespasser in stone? well, in my fic The Scourge of Sundermount, the Lavellan there comes across a left-behind remnant of Mythal's soul in a bit of the amulet Merrill used to bring her back and she becomes a sort of Medusa-esque figure, capable of (involuntarily) turning people to stone with a remnant of that power. I have a hard time reading that story because it is very sad, but I do feel clever about the details in the way I situated that AU.
