          because I’ve been thinking about it, here’s the stages of keith’s werewolf transformation. his is often more violent than others of his kind, but it’s safe to say that they all experience a portion of these symptoms, too. keith just kind of got... the bad part of the whole deal. it doesn’t help that he’s often fighting his changes.

stage 0:

day-to-day life. normal human. the ‘default’ existence for him, basically.

he has a bit more strength than an average person, and an easier time building muscle. but otherwise, he has no heightened senses or abilities. 

(except for advanced healing.)

exceptions on this being a ‘day-to-day life’ is made for the full moon, in which he exists in stage 1 for the days leading up to it, and a few days after. 

stage 2-4, full transformation, can happen on the days leading up to it and the days after, too, without his say so. full transformation absolutely happens on the full moon, no exceptions.

stage 1:

during this stage, he can be days to hours from stage 2, or mere minutes. it depends on circumstance.

sense of smell and hearing are suddenly heightened. strength is suddenly heightened, too.

experiences an ache he can only describe as ‘subtle but bone-deep’

increased appetite. protein cravings in particular.

stage 2:

during this stage, he is very, very close to changing.

experiences extreme disorientation. he loses any ability to tell you basic things: what time it is, where he is, what his name is. he experiences vertigo, too.

his eyes lose focus. pulse increases. breathing pattern changes to rapid and shallow.

the ache changes to straight-up pain. everything twists and hurts and burns. he has no words to describe it, simply because he often does not remember. it is, at the time, blatantly clear that he is in pain.

if he did not bring on the change himself, then it is very, very obvious that he is fighting his transformation. he won’t stay down. will constantly stumble back onto his feet. he’s not unlikely to hurt himself during this stage on accident.

stage 3:

full transformation is achieved. keith loses all memory of events that occur past this point.

his werewolf form is reactive aggressive. it fights first and foremost and does not consider alternatives. if it’s truly scared, then it assumes it’s fighting for its life, which makes it incredibly dangerous.

if it’s fighting because keith brought on the change himself for fighting for $$ reasons, then it resolves into something more calculating. something with a little more finesse. 

stage 4:

the wind-down. his wolf loses energy until it finally stops and lets go. at this point he transforms back to human, and has to deal with the aftermath.

keith is a lone wolf for a lot of reasons. a good portion of the reasons, however, is his wolf’s inherently aggressive nature. he doesn’t mesh well with a pack - especially when displays of dominance or power are in play. his werewolf half is liable to kill another wolf if threatened past his breaking point (RIP to his father, who will not be missed).

another reason is that his wolf’s aggressive nature made his family pack very notable to the wrong people (the hounds). tracking violent deaths back to the pack would be easy if he stuck around, and to keep attention off his remaining family, he left. 

he shares that very specific I’m always being hunted hypervigilance with io. s/o to the hounds for that kind of trauma.

keith tries very, very hard to not get loud and angry in his human form. he doesn’t want to scare other people like that. if his voice rises, he usually closes his eyes and takes a breath so that the next time he speaks, it’s calmer.

his family is generations of one werewolf after the next - ten generations on his maternal side, and twelve on his paternal side. he takes no pride in this.

flirt, flirt, flirt. he’s such a flirt. and a big charmer. never intentionally crosses boundaries and is apologetic if he does. you tell him no he goes ‘aw damn’ and moves on to the next person to flirt with.

usually... women. this man is very repressed bisexual. once again, RIP to his father, who really will not be missed. top ten reasons keith has issues now.

tbh he was the popular guy in high school. but the one who was nice to everyone and would deck anyone who needed it. he’s still like that, really.

he’s a good singer. and really likes it. if... everything else... hadn’t happened to him, he would have tried very hard to pursue singing as a career.

I am thinking about some of my muses:

I think about azzy a lot, and the fact that he has so much potential, and how unlucky it was that col was the one who saw it first. it's unfortunate, too, that azzy is so loyal to him now.

keith really is my quintessential terrifying werewolf. he is the one who can't control it and never will. he's the monster, the beast, the wolf who is so, so angry and frightened and dangerous. he doesn't love the things other werewolves might love. he hates the night, he hates the cycles of the moon. his changes are painful and leave him sore and tired and hungry each and every time.

eden collects a lot of things that some might find odd: carnivorous plants, taxidermy (rogue and normal), bones and other vulture-culture related things. their house is filled with this collection. their fox familiar, quasar, enjoys pretending to be these pieces of taxidermy, sometimes, only to frighten an unsuspecting guest by moving or blinking (or winking if he wants to be really terrible).

latona comes off as rather calm and self-assured, in a way that makes her intimidating in some ways. she's perfectly aware of her own power and her own emotions, and can easily use one specifically, while shoving the other way. they never effect each other unless she wants them too.

          odd, unwolflike colors are something that pops up in later generations of werewolves, and keith is a shining example of that. while partially black as a werewolf, he is not slowly graying like many wild-colored black wolves (although his siblings are, a steady gray grizzle that increases every year). he is also piebald in his werewolf form. a half-black, half-white face as well as a collar of white around his ruff. in both his human form and his werewolf form he expresses heterochromia. one eye is blue, the other is brown.

          unusual, or non wild-type colors like keith, are something fawned over in a lot of werewolf packs. white markings, non-graying black fur, white fur, or even shades of red are seen as beautiful. many werewolves also attempt cosmetic changes to their werewolf half - keith’s sister has cropped ears. 

          it’s safe to say that keith doesn’t attempt any of that, as he’s not a fan of his werewolf half and doesn’t care what he looks like when changed. he is, however, missing the tip of his tail, and has since he was a teen.
