Basically sand art. A small group activity that Usami had put together for the students as a bonding activity. And these two were paired together to sculpt whatever their hearts desired;.... And there were free shaved ice vouchers for the winners-- A certain sweets-driven science experiment wanted those for himself.

What was Izuru sculpting around Nagito exactly? Well, he kept it on an even playing field for everyone participating-- At first, he was going to sculpt a very simplified version of the Birth of Venus-- But that would just up-stage everyone else. So for now it was the classic merfolk.... Still pretty impressive even if Izuru wasn't using his full potential.

Just a merman.... with very sickly looking face. At least...Nagito was participating somewhat!

                     ‶  i guess it can't be helped...  ″ a sigh, forlorn expression on his face. he knew he couldn't do anything noteworthy enough to win a prize. and even if he tried to help someone build something, he'd probably end up sabotaging it. he wasn't very good with activities that required very precise, delicate movements and steady hands.

                     he did offer — and he knows he should be grateful for being of use — but komaeda, ever the hypocrite, seems to only revel in the idea of being useful when it's going exactly the way he wanted it. having everything but his head under the surprisingly heavy sand? yeah... this wasn't how he planned to spend the beach day at all.

                     even if he wanted to move around, it was actually pretty difficult. it would be hard for anyone to unbury themselves from sand like this, but komaeda was probably the weakest person in their group. so he just had to deal with it until kamakura let him go. to an outsider this was... probably really amusing to watch.

                     he doesn't even like sweets!!! he's not getting anything out of this!!! ——— well, that's what you get for blindly offering up your services, komaeda. a lesson (probably not) learned.

It took the mechanic a good minute to realize the other wasn’t still there with him, having been too busy reciting some songs lyrics, except it was a drunkenly remixed version of them. When he did notice, though, he shuffled towards the door, sitting right at the doorway.

“….Zu?” he called, with a sniffle, before he started sobbing against the door. “Zuuuuu hic….. zuzuzuuuuuu… hic…. zuzuuu….. zuuu-hic-zuuuuuuu….. zuuuuuuu…..” and again and again, like a broken radio. He doesn’t seem like he’s going to give it a rest anytime soon.

“I-it’s not like that, man! I’m just… as your friend, I need to call you out on shit like that! You’re just gonna end up pushing everyone away from you!!” Although, being compared to the committee made the mechanic noticeably falter, the mere thought of it causing him stomach to twist nauseously. He really… didn’t want to make the other feel like that. He didn’t want to lose the other’s trust, either.

But that didn’t mean he should just sit and watch his friend hurt others. Had there been a chance that the other would seriously hurt him, he’d have kept his mouth shut like a coward, but it felt like Izuru cared about him to some degree… so maybe he could talk some sense into him if he tries. “Put yourself in others shoes, dude. Would you want someone to say hurtful things to you if you were the other person??”

“A-at this hour???” The mechanic thought they’d be done, by now. Just how long did the examinations run for? He hadn’t noticed it when he first came in, but it seemed like the other was hooked up to something… Crap, he hoped he hadn’t hurt him by that hug.

“…How long are they gonna keep it up?” he asked, in a more somber mutter. Then, his expression shifting from nervous to determined, he moved to be in front of the other instead of behind him. “If it’s not too long I’ll just… h-hide somewhere in here until they finish! Then we can hang out and eat sweets afterwards… right?”

It was rare, to see the other not react to sweets at all, which made him realize… how low-spirited the other must be. Which –in hindsight– duh, he was being experimented on like some sort of rat lab. What did he expect, for the guy to be all jovial while going through something as dehumanizing as that? He bit the inside of his cheek with a frown. There was… no way he’s gonna just, leave the other alone in here. He started looking around for a place to hide.

“I’m not asking whether they’re real or not, dude, I’m asking what they would think of us if they hypothetically existed.” The mechanic rolled on his back, arms crossed behind his head where he was lying down on the other’s bed. “I mean, I don’t really believe in stuff like that either, but… sometimes I catch myself pleading to whoever is up there ‘n stuff, especially when I’m in a tough spot. I guess… I guess deep down I feel like there is someone up there, y’know? ‘cause… there were lots of times where I was sure I’m about to die but I come out alive, somehow, so…” His eyes were stuck on the ceiling, mind lost in thought. “I… I do wonder about it, sometimes.”

The thoughtful look completely disappeared a moment later, though. “I do completely believe in fate and soulmates, though! I can feel it in my heart!! There’s definitely someone out there for me…” A pause. “…A-also, don’t wish for death, dude.”

“Dude, I think there’s seaweed in my ass.” Izuru guessed right. “But it’s not like, inside. It’s between the cheeks,” he told the other, because his friend needed to have that information, obviously. “These swim trucks don’t protect my sacred trinity from shit, man. I really need to get new ones…” Glancing over at the other, he frowned sulkily when it didn’t seem like the other was listening. “Hey, I’m sharing my woes with you over here.”

“You’ve been cooped up here playing all day, dude. Are you seriously gonna waste your day on a screen?” He wasn’t the kind of person to shame others for their hobbies by any means, but this was getting to a ridiculous point. Gaming was almost all the guy’s been doing whenever he’s back. “…Listen, if you’re gonna play games then at least download some multiplayer ones. I feel like I’m either left out or third-wheeling whenever you play games with the blue-haired girl, and now you’re not even letting me try to distract myself from this toxic relationship by hogging up the internet. Put yourself in my shoes, man.”

What would you do if I got amnesia because of that, huh?? E-even if you don’t care about me, how would Haj feel is his bestiest of soul besties forgets about him??? What if I died??”

Yes, he was aware that he was being a little dramatic but no, he wasn’t going to stop throwing a fit until the other apologizes. While it didn’t actually hurt him to a degree he couldn’t handle, it still gave him a good scare. He pouted at the other. “I’ll tell Haj on you if you don’t say sorry. Also kiss my boo-boo away.”
