アマビエ

アマビエは、日本の妖怪の一種で、江戸時代に現在の熊本県にあたる地域に現れたと伝えられています。 アマビエは、人魚のような姿をした妖怪と言われ、その姿は半人半魚で、髪は長く、口には鳥のようなクチバシ、体は鱗に覆われ、3本足をした姿で描かれることが多いです。 この伝承は、新型コロナウイルス感染症（COVID-19）の流行時に再び注目を集めました。疫病退散を願う人々によって、アマビエの絵が描かれたり、グッズが作られるなど、アマビエは疫病除けの象徴として愛されるようになりました。

アマビエとは江戸時代、熊本の海に現れ豊作と疫病の流行を予言し、「疫病が流行ったらわたしの写し絵を早々に人々に見せよ」と言って海中に姿を消したとされる妖怪。

イラストレータで漫画家のアオノミサコさんが描いたアマビエへのオマージュ。ミサコさんのアマビエはとても素敵でかっこいいアマビエでした。

Amabie is a Japanese plague-sealing yokai that is said to have appeared in the sea in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, in May 1846. Amabie is said to have caused light to shine from the sea and to have made predictions about a good harvest and plague.
