Shingaki Tarusuke (Togata Mirio) Special Interview
Hello, I made another translation. LOL Original Japanese transcription is found in the Boku no Hero Academia anime official website. Let me know if there are any mistakes below.
-----------
☆ Did you know about the "Hero Aca" series? Please tell us your thoughts.
I read the manga at first but stopped for a while. And after I was chosen to be Mirio in the audition, I started reading again. Even though Hero Aca is a shounen manga, I feel it has a side to it that can scare the shounen (boys). The 4th season, especially, can make you feel "there really are adults like this, huh". Deku and the others, who until now have just been working very hard to their utmost limit, are now intentionally exposed to situations that put lives in danger. Just doing their best won't cut it anymore, and it's very much like real human society.
☆ That's true. It might be a type of fantasy, but it's also a series that's realistic in terms of portraying society.
As a whole, Hero Aca puts Deku and the others in environments or situations that aren't unheard of in real life. Even if they have these "quirks", each one has its own relative merit or lack thereof, conflicts arise from it, and just as there are those with quirks, there are also those who don't. From there the concepts of "Hero" and "Villain" are created, and that kind of thing I think is very much like the real world. I think that's why every line from the characters make such an impression.
☆ What was your first impression of playing Togata Mirio in such a series?
Firstly, he is always with a smile, even his neutral character design is bright, and you're drawn to such cheerfulness and lightness, but even that comical hero will fight desperately. His first appearance in the manga had a lot of impact (lol).
☆ That's true. He even fought class 1-A in the nude (lol)
But if we focus too much on his comical and laid back side, he'll just become another "weird" character. Just like a performer who calmly recovers after making a mistake, even if he's the kind of person people might laugh at for "playing the fool", he's a popular person who properly earns respect. His quirk "Permeation" is very difficult to use and he struggled, but I always play him while keeping in mind that despite all of that, he is a person who, in his core, always puts in the hard work.
☆ How was the recording?
I only joined at the end of the 3rd season, but I work with a lot of the cast in other recordings as well, and I received a very warm welcome. The passion that the cast and staff have towards this series is overwhelming and I end up wanting to reach this level of passion and play Mirio the best I can.
☆ In the 4th season, you have a lot of scenes with Deku who is played by Yamashita Daiki. How was that?
The direction I received was about how Mirio is as a senpai (senior). He's not someone that stands on a higher level and brings you up, but rather someone that stands beside you and does things together. The nuance is actually very difficult to portray. Even if that's how I tried to portray it, one breath or one word could be heard differently by others and the impression it makes changes, so I try to be sensitive in my performance.
☆ It was actually the first appearance in Hero Aca of a "senpai" character.
If it's "guidance", then All Might and the other teachers are there to do it so it's different, but he's strong enough to be considered "The Man Closest to Becoming the Number 1 Hero". On one hand he brings out all these funny scenes in succession, but then he's also attentive and considerate and overall a kind person. Mirio has these different sides to him so playing him is difficult and fun!
☆ Mirio is also growing to become a hero, but for you Shingaki-san, what is your personal image of a hero?
Someone who is always there for a person in need. It doesn't matter if they are strong or weak or what skills they have, they will always go to someone in trouble. That's my image of a hero. It's a coincidence, but Mirio is aiming to become exactly that kind of hero, worked hard to become closer to that, and even in the future I think that won't change.
☆ Lastly, a message for the fans and viewers please!
At last, Mirio will become a regular participant in the 4th season. I'm personally hyped up more and more with every recording, and I want to grow together with Mirio and do even better next time. I wish that these feelings, together with the passion of everyone working on this series, will be felt by the viewers and they too will continue to look forward to the weekly broadcast!

My other My Hero Academia cast interview translations:
Yamashita Daiki (Deku) x Okamoto Nobuhiko (Kacchan) S3
I’m glad that his family in Nagano are safe from the typhoon. Also talked a little bit about his new song 「Fuwari Fuwari」 and had it played before calling the guest, Shingaki-san!!
They talked about Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai and how during the free talk everyone becomes all hyper because of course the mood of the story is a bit depressing. They also talked about playing the guitar since both of them do and Shingaki with his band. Also that men’s only event for Waccha’s single release xD That was surprising.
Next month’s broadcast will be on Nov 22! Near his 9th’s single’s release!!
“So, how do you want to shed those tears, young lady?”
Kato-san is fanboying. But, honestly, the gap between Shingaki-san’s acting and normal speaking voice is amazing. Much like Kenshin’s seiyuu! So amazing.
It’s the start of chapter 33 and includes the scene where Yashiro is asking Doumeki to let him put his head in his lap (and tells him how his dick felt inside him).
(Also, sorry for the radio silence. I will try to make some time to reply to anons this week.)
