To say things hadn't exactly gone Kaede's way was something of an understatement - but nothing he'd ever fess up to. Too much had happened in the past few months, let alone the last several years, and all of it had been far more painful than he'd initially thought it would be. Desensitization to death and despair hadn't helped him in any meaningful way, instead proving him the opposite; He wasn't desensitized at all, hopelessly affected in every possible way, but he couldn't - wouldn't - open his mouth. Not for anyone.

Not even a decent friend who was kind enough to care - kind enough to hand him a card with a precious few phone numbers and an address printed on its backing, an out.

He absently sipped from his mocha bubble tea, tastebuds ignorant to its flavor, crossing his legs at the ankles. The world moved on around them in the same breathy whirlwind it always had, a complicated organism in its own right, a cool Autumn breeze rustling through his hair. Leaning backward, he wasn't paying much attention to anything at all - not the world, and certainly not Adrian - only nodding his head in feigned acknowledgment in what he thought were normal enough intervals to be convincing.

His mind was elsewhere, lingering on nothing more than glorified memories in place of the living like a kicked puppy on the side of the road - nothing more, nothing less. At least, until Adrian called his name.

"I'm sorry, Adrian-dono, what did you say?" he said lowly, his rasp betraying his lack of attention, but he was careful to cover his ass. He didn't want to leave a sour taste in Adrian's mouth. "I must've misheard you."

Legends and myths about trees

A-bombed trees - Trees that survived the atomic bombing

Some 77 years after the atomic bombing, surviving A-bombed trees are still cherished as natural monuments in various parts of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan.

The number and variety of these are multiple, a few of which are highlighted below.

Among the surviving trees, there is a weeping willow that was the closest to the hypocentre to be exposed to the bombing. This tree, located 370 metres from the hypocentre along the Honkawa River west of the youth centre, had its trunk broken by the bombing, but has since sprouted and grown from the roots. The T-shaped Aioi Bridge, visible from here, was used as a bombing target because of its unique shape.

At the ruins of Hiroshima Castle Ninomaru, there is a eucalyptus tree that was exposed to the bomb 740 metres from the hypocentre. The tree was also the subject of Keiji Nakazawa's manga 'Under the Eucalyptus Tree'. Keiji Nakazawa ( b. 14 March 1939 - d. 19 December 2012), cartoonist and author, whose best-known work ‘Barefoot Gen’ is a manga based on Nakazawa's own experiences as a Hiroshima survivor. Subsequent typhoons caused the trunk to break off in the middle, but it has sprouted again and continues to grow.

A large camphor tree stands firmly at the entrance to the grounds of Sanno Shrine in Nagasaki. With its lush foliage and strong trunk, it is a large tree that is still full of vigour and vitality.

The giant camphor tree was temporarily on the verge of death when an atomic bomb exploded over Nagasaki City, cracking its trunk and blowing away its branches and leaves, which were then burnt by heat rays. Miraculously, however, the tree sprouted new shoots and gradually regained its vigour, encouraging A-bomb survivors who were on their way to recovery from the burnt ruins. Even today, the tree is designated as a natural monument, is cherished and loved, and encourages many people.

木にまつわる伝説・神話

被爆樹木〜原爆を生き延びた樹木たち

被爆から約77年、今もなお生き続ける被爆樹木が日本の広島市、長崎市の各地に天然記念物として大切にされている。

その数と種類は複数あり、その一部をご紹介する。

現存する樹木の中で、最も爆心地に近いところで被爆したシダレヤナギがある。爆心地から370m、青少年センター西側の本川沿いにあるこの木は、被爆によって幹は折れたが、その後、根本から新芽が生え成長した。ここから見えるT字形の相生橋は、そのユニークな形のために、爆弾投下の目標にされた。

広島城二の丸跡には、爆心地から740mで被爆したユーカリがある。この木は、中沢啓治さんの漫画「ユーカリの木の下で」の題材にもなった。中沢啓治 ( 1939年3月14日生まれ - 2012年12月19日没) は、漫画家、作家、代表作「はだしのゲン」は、広島の被爆者である中沢氏の実体験を基にした漫画。この木はその後も台風により、幹の途中で折れてしまったが、再び芽を吹き成長を続けている。

長崎の山王神社の境内入口にどっしりと根をおろしている大クスノキ。青々と茂る葉と力強く伸びる幹、今なおたくましく生命力みなぎる大木だ。

長崎市上空で原爆が炸裂し、幹が割れ、枝葉が吹き飛ばされ、熱線で焼かれて一時は瀕死の状態にあったクスノキの大木。しかしその後、この木は奇跡的に新芽を出し、徐々に元気を取り戻し、焼け野原から復興へ向かう被爆者たちを励ました。現在も天然記念物に指定され、多くの人々に愛され、人々を励まし続けている。

First of all, how dare you. Seriously.

Secondly, sigh... I came in here all charged up to write something about this, but all I can do is drag my ass and lament for Kaede. The poor kid drew a terrible hand; Constantly chasing after, I think, approval and forgiveness from all the wrong people, in all the wrong places. He buried himself in his work because I couldn't handle also being a person around them - it was just too much, because it was never enough. Everything he did, he did for his family, and they took advantage of him - took him for granted, too. And, y'know, he's convinced he'll die before them all. He's fighting curses day in and day out, he's narrowly escaping harrowing situations with his life, he's the reckless one. He's the one who sacrifices, constantly, always, no matter how bratty and shitty his personality can sometimes be.

He is the one who sacrifices. Despite his complaints, despite what he really wants, he refuses to have it any other way. Because he cares. Infinitely more than he lets on, but he cares. He wants to help, wants for the family to prosper and grow, wants everyone to be safe from harm - even those he couldn't possibly care less about. In an instant, the people you love most can be taken from you; Doing everything you can to protect them... Well, that's just the right thing to do in the first place. It's love. It's a foolish, childish love that ardently refuses to give in, one that desperately wants for his sacrifices to be recognized and for his love to be returned.

But when everyone's massacred - again - it becomes abundantly clear in a more literal sense that no, his sacrifice was worthless. Everyone's dead. He wasn't there to protect them. He wasn't there to prevent, exorcise-- The many years he spent whittling away at his sense of self and what it means to live when the people he loved most didn't, so much guilt and sadness, were ultimately worthless. He learned only that being close to someone, caring about them, leads only to the loss of them. And it doesn't matter how close to them in proximity he could be. Right next to them, miles upon miles away...doesn't matter. It's too much, and he can't cope with it. He just can't.

By this same token, as he is naturally in conflict with himself, he might...also be relieved. It's over. It's done. Even if it seemed like it was all for nothing, in the end, he has his freedom. He is no longer beholden to the Shikabane Clan. He's...just Kaede. Released from his mental and emotional prison into the loneliness, companionship, hope, and despair life offers. There's more to life than living according to duty, more than selling his soul to cursed spirits and jujutsu sorcerers who lost the plot centuries ago. He can do something, now, with the time that's been afforded to him, hard as it may be. Change things. Be more than the pain he bears. And live. Oh, just to live. Break the cycle and instead of succumbing to it, accepting it, grieving, and moving on - healing.

He'll always be sad. He'll always mourn. He'll always carry the weight of their deaths. The evidence of his failures will always cover his body. I think, it's just another thing that makes him human. He's complicated and idiotic, but his heart is warm - he's only tired. So tired of constantly losing, hung out to dry by the world he was supposed to belong in, neglected and abused by the people he swore to protect, and all he ever really wanted was for his sacrifice to mean something in the end. Alone, depressed, a shadow of his former self, and for what? They're all gone.

He'll probably yoyo through all that until he's able to let it go, but when he does, finally... I hope he'll be kinder to himself and maybe, for once, let someone in.

The Quest for Buddhism (88)

Buddhacharita, Chapter 15: 'The First Turning of the Wheel' - Depiction of the Middle Way (Ref) and the Eightfold Path (Ref2)

The Buddhacharita is a Buddhist epic attributed to Ashvaghosha (80-150 CE, an ancient Indian Buddhist monk). The following is a translation of the text in Sanskrit:

'O Bhikkhus, do not speak to a respectful Arhat out of respect and according to your former habits. Respect and condemnation are the same thing to me, but let me turn you back from your vices.

See the two wings of the fools' indulgence, exhausting themselves and obsessing over the objects of their sensitivities, as negligent and not the path to immortality.

For example, here, the darkness of the night is brought to extinction by the lamp, but not by sprinkling water to extinction. Similarly, the darkness of ignorance is brought to extinction by the fire of the intellect, but not by the fatigue of the body.

For example, a fire-seeker does not get fire by chopping and tearing a piece of wood, but he gets fire by rubbing that same piece of wood in the right way. Similarly, one gains immortality from correct yoga, not from physical fatigue.

And he whose mind is overcome by dust (rajas) and darkness (tamas), and who is attached to the objects of lust without interest, will not attain fulfilment even in the worldly art of gain (arthaniti). Even in the vairagyavidhi (procedure of covetousness), which is the opposite of the world, he will not be able to attain fulfilment.

For example, there is no recovery for a person who is ill and eats the wrong food. In the same way, how can there be tranquillity for one who is sick with ignorance and is attached to the objects of lust?

For example, there is no stillness in a fire that stays on dry ground and is stirred by the wind. Similarly,there is no tranquillity in the heart that is subject to greed and on the ground of the object of lust.

I have renounced these two extremes and have attested to another path as the middle one (Middle Way), which is ultimately a guide to subdue suffering and to be at peace, happy and contented.

The path (1) shines with the rays of sunlight of right view, (2) is drawn by the wheel of pure thought, (3) has the rightly spoken word as its refuge, (4) has the pleasures of the amusement park hut through good deeds, (5) has a great harvest through life without blame, (6) has strength and followers through right action, (7) is everywhere protected by the fortress of right remembrance and (8) has the floor and seat of samādhi as its dwelling place.

Thus, here, this supreme path of the eight branches carries man out of death, old age and disease, and he who has been carried out of it and has done all he has to do will not go round again in this world or in the next.

ブッダチャリタ第15章「初転法輪」〜中道・八正道（参照）の描写

『ブッダチャリタ』とは、馬鳴（めみょう、梵: ｱｼｭｳﾞｧｺﾞｰｼｬ、紀元後80年頃～150年頃、古代インドの仏教僧侶）の著作とされる仏教叙事詩である。以下、本文(梵語)の翻訳:

「比丘たちよ、尊敬する阿羅漢に対する尊敬の念から、かつての習慣に従って話してはならない。私には尊敬と非難は同じことであるが、汝たちを私が不徳から引き戻してあげよう。」

愚か者たちが耽っている、自分を疲労させることと、感官の対象に執着することとの、両翼は、怠慢であり、不死に至る道ではないと見なさい。

苦行と称される身体の疲労によって、乱された心が傷つけられる時、人は決して世間的な理解すら知ることはないであろう。ましてや感官を超えた真実の道を知ることにおいてをや。

例えば、ここで、灯火によって夜の闇は滅に至るが、水を撒くことによっては滅に至らない。同様に、知性の火によって無知の闇は消滅に至るが、身体の疲労によっては消滅に至らない。

例えば、火を求める人が、木片を切り刻み、引き裂いても火を得ないが、その同じ木片を正しい方法で摩擦すれば火を得る。 同様に、人は正しいヨーガから不死を得るのであって、身体の疲労からではない。

また、塵(ﾗｼﾞｬｽ)と闇(ﾀﾏｽ)に心が打ち負かされて 、利なき愛欲の対象に執着する者は、世間における利の処世術(ｱﾙﾀﾆｰﾃｨ)においても成就を得ることはできぬ。ましてや、世間とは真逆の離貪の手順(ｳﾞｧｲﾗ-ｷﾞｬｳﾞｨﾃﾞｨ)においてをや。

例えば、病に冒されて、間違った食物を食べる人に、決して快復がない。 同様に、無知の病に冒され、愛欲の対象に執着する者に、どうして寂静があろうか。

例えば、乾いた地にとどまって、風にあおられた火に静まりがない。同様に、貪欲につき従われ、愛欲の対象という地にある心に静まりはない。

私はこの両極端を放棄して、その真ん中としての別な道、すなわち、究極的に苦しみを鎮める導き手であり、安穏であり、幸福で、息災なる〔道〕 を証得したのだ。

その道は、(1) 正しい見解という太陽光線で輝き、(2) 清らかな思惟の車に引かれ、(3) 正しく語られた言葉を精舎とし、(4) 善い行いによる遊園小屋の楽しみを持ち 、(5) 非難されない生活による大豊作を持ち、(6) 正しい行動による力と従者を持ち、(7) どこでも正しい念の砦に守られ、(8) 三昧という床と座を居住地としているのである。

このように、ここにおいて、八支よりなるこの最高の道は、人を死と老いと病から運び出すものであり、それから運び出されて 、すべてのなすべきことをなし終わった人は、再びこの世やあの世を巡ることはない。

似乎是這幾天 cryptography 領域裡面頗熱鬧的消息，SIDH 以及 SIKE 確認有嚴重的問題：「SIKE Broken」，論文在「An efficient key recovery attack on SIDH (preliminary version)」這邊可以取得。 這次的成果是 Key recovery attack，算是最暴力的幹法，直接把 key 解出來。 另外 SIKE 剛好也是先前 Cloudflare 在解釋 Hertzbleed 時被拿來打的目標：「Cloudflare 上的 Hertzbleed 解釋」，這樣看起來連 patch 也都不用繼續研究了… 論文裡面的攻擊對象中，第一個是 Microsoft 在 $IKE challenges 內所定義的 $IKEp182 與 $IKEp217，在只用 single core…

チート行為を繰り返す一部ユーザへの対策のための変更となります。ご理解いただけましたら幸いです。

モンスター図鑑で、そのモンスターが使用するスキルと所持する固有アビリティが確認できるようになりました。

「黒い針」の効果を以下の内容に変更しました。 →「黒い針：　状態異常を与えている数に応じて、与えられる「致死」の効果量が増える(1つにつき+100％)」

「無詠唱召喚」で与えるダメージにも、「黄道の加護：蠍」の効果でクリティカルが適用されるようになりました。

消費せずに使用できる合成素材を使った際の消費ジャンク量を緩和しました。

フロアスキップ発動直後の戦闘で敗北した場合、クリアフロアが敗北フロア-1ではなく、フロアスキップ前にいたフロアになるよう変更しました。

修正

Google Play Gamesがインストールされていない端末でセーブ管理画面が正常動作しない不具合を修正しました。

なお、 Android版B100XはGoogle Play以外で提供しておりません。 正常な動作を保証いたしかねますので、 Google Play以外から入手したAndroid版B100Xは、絶対にプレイしないでください。

一部のゲームがフリーズ/クラッシュが発生するケースを修正しました。

【Steam版】 「非アクティブ時にミュートする」設定時に、ミュートを行った後B100Xをアクティブにすると、ミュートが解除されてしまう不具合を修正しました。
