I can't remember when I posted about listening to Voices Carry in full again, but I remember mentioning how "Don't Watch Me Bleed" and "Are You Serious?" sounded like the same song which apparently wasn't really a problem because "Are You Serious?" was actually only ever the b-side to a single and not actually on the album (but that pains me because that song is SO GOOD and, tbh, I prefer it by MILES to "Don't Watch Me Bleed", BUT I DIGRESS).
Nonetheless, the guitar work on this song is INSANE. My favorite part is during the lyric "And smile at me and sound so sincere?" - the tension created by the guitar during that line (especially right after Aimee sings "And smile at me") is chills-inducing, it is so fucking good. Robert Holmes is a hell of a guitarist, apparently, but tbh ALL of 'Til Tuesday were/are talented as fuck. The talent of all of the musicians involved are definitely what make 'Til Tuesday one of my favorite bands, and Aimee Mann is a PHENOMENAL lyricist. I don't know if this means very much to say it, but she's legitimately one of the few songwriters who can convince me of anything as it pertains to the subject of love, or heartbreak, or whatever. I may not have ever experienced it myself, personally, but the way Aimee writes and sings makes me feel like I have. That is the mark of a truly talented writer (which I would know, as a writer, myself, though not a songwriter)!

Lyrics:
Living on silence
Living by the book
You get it to a science
Of living on one good look
So put out all the fires
And blow away the smoke
I'm getting pretty tired
Of living on hope
So what about love, baby
What about making room for two
What about love, baby
What about you
Living on daydreams
Walking in my sleep
And nothing is as it seems
When you're in so deep
So put out all the fires
And blow away the smoke
Unless you're getting tired
Of living on hope
So what about love, baby
What about making room for two
What about love, baby
What about you
What about love, baby
What about making room for two
What about love, baby
What about you
What about love, baby
What about making room for two
What about love, baby
What about you

Out in the distance
I could hear some people laughing
I felt my heart beat back
A weekend's worth of sadness...

'Til Tuesday - Voices Carry
I'm in the dark, I'd like to read his mind
But I'm frightened of the things I might find
There must be something he's thinking of to tear him away
When I tell him that I'm falling in love, why does he say
Hush hush, keep it down now
Voices carry
Hush hush, keep it down now
Voices carry
I try so hard not to get upset
Because I know all the trouble I'll get
Oh, he tells me tears are something to hide and something to fear
And I try so hard to keep it inside so no one can hear
Hush hush, keep it down now
Voices carry
Hush hush, keep it down now
Voices carry
Hush hush, keep it down now
Voices carry
Oh, he wants me
But only part of the time
He wants me
If he can keep me in line
Hush hush, keep it down now
Voices carryHush hush, keep it down now
Voices carry
Oh, hush hush, shut up now
Voices carry
Oh, hush hush, keep it down now
Voices carry
Oh, hush hush, darling, she might overhear
Voices carry
Oh no
Voices carry
Hush hush, he said shut up, he said shut up
Voices carry
Oh God can't you keep it down?
Voices carry
Hush hush
Voices carry
I wish he would let me talk

Maybe it's because I've heard "Voices Carry" a million times (appropriately, being 'Til Tuesday's biggest hit), but this song can make me get up and DANCE like not many other songs motivate me to do, and I think "I Could Get Used to This" is actually my favorite song off of Voices Carry. Also because I've gotten so used to it (enjoying it so much; also, pun intended) that I don't get tired of it, unlike any other songs on the rest of the album (sorry to "Voices Carry" and "Love in a Vacuum").
