I know a lot of people didn't like the pet shop of horrors ova's but i always thought that the dvd menu was really neat. With it's little opening doors and such! It did make it seem way more horror than it actually is lol.

They’re just like…classic corny Dutch songs, the kind you sing when you’re drunk. Sentimental songs, kind of related to chanson and schlager. Ones people will definitely know here but aren’t particularly well-known elsewhere. I guess maybe something like Neil Diamond or Kenny Rogers would be the closest non-European equivalent, although that’s not exactly right. Both of them are that kind of song but the André Hazes specifically, as Hazes is probably the most famous and beloved of that genre (levenslied), a beloved tragic figure of working-class Amsterdam music. Zij Gelooft in Mij is also such a big dramatic song that you either have to lean into the drama or play it for comedy, which will be interesting either way.

Three Little Birds is an unofficial/semi-official anthem of the big Amsterdam football club Ajax (the fans sing it before games and last year Ajax released a Jamaica-inspired Three Little Birds kit, which was a massive sportswear hit), so I’m guessing Ajax will be part of the episodes as well?

To me it shows a certain familiarity with Amsterdam that I’m very curious to see played out - they’re not like, obscure references, but it’s enough to suggest something going on in how they’re going to use it.

But also if either of those Dutch songs show up around Prik it is going to be very hard to believe as the last thing Prik would play is that kind of music. (Also if they treat Prik as a real club - it’s a crowded bar with a DJ and a very small dance floor, that’s not a club here.)

Am I really missing the Dutch CatCF musical or am I just missing that feeling of exploring new cities/theaters to see the actors who'd been nothing but kind to me shine on stage and hear the applause for them and then going home knowing I'd explore a new city/theater and hear a whole different set of jokes the next week? The musical was AMAZING but the people I got to meet and places I got to see because of it? Even more so.

Nightwish - The Phantom of the Opera 2002

"The Phantom of the Opera" is a song from the 1986 stage musical of the same name, based on the 1910 French novel of the same name by Gaston Leroux, which tells the tragic story of a beautiful soprano, Christine Daaé, who becomes the obsession of a mysterious, masked musical genius living in the subterranean labyrinth beneath the Paris Opéra House. The song was composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with lyrics written by Charles Hart and Richard Stilgoe, and additional lyrics by Mike Batt. The song was originally recorded by Sarah Brightman and Steve Harley, which became a UK hit single in 1986, prior to the musical. Listen to it here! Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic metal band from Kitee. The band was formed in 1996 by lead songwriter and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, guitarist Emppu Vuorinen, and former lead singer Tarja Turunen. The band soon picked up drummer Jukka Nevalainen, and then bassist Sami Vänskä after the release of their debut album, Angels Fall First (1997). In 2001, Vänskä was replaced by Marko Hietala, who also took over the male vocalist role previously filled by Holopainen or guest singers.

In 2002, Nightwish released Century Child, along with the singles "Ever Dream" and "Bless the Child". Century Child was certified gold two hours after its release, and platinum two weeks afterwards. This would hold true for 17 years until November 27 and 28, 2022, when Nightwish was joined by Dutch singer Henk Poort on stage at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam to perform the song. Marko Hietala joined Tarja Turunen at a couple of her solo shows in 2023 to sing "The Phantom of the Opera" with her. They are set to tour together in Spring 2024 in Latin America on Tarja's "Living The Dream – The Hits Tour".
