@rippleofwords sent in: talk about hyuk || the paper machine's gossip session ( ft. talk about meme )
send “talk about-” and a name for my muse to talk about that person!
embers verse:
Tumblr media
“…He reminds me of my old colleagues.” Not that he’s actually heard her talk about them, save for, maybe Edgeworth. It’s okay- he doesn’t really talk much about his colleagues back in Seoul anyways. Maybe she wants to keep it that way since well, even if the corruption is weeded out of the LAPD, they’ll never be able to go back to the way things were before. Detective Lee ( @jeoseungsaja ) might be able to do in Seoul, but not hers. Deft fingers press along the fold. “They have a better sense of humor than he does, but he has a similar drive.” The exacting drive demanding nothing more and nothing less than the truth. The recklessness and sheer force to get the desired results. The hardheadedness. She sees them all in Detective Lee, the ghost of friends long gone, never to return…or maybe their spirit, the true nature of the LAPD,  is simply being passed down from one generation to the next. Either way, she makes another fold. This one is going to be a pigeon. “Is he done with questioning Mister Trevor?” That’s the parrot the court is bringing in as a witness for next week’s trial. “He said he had more PAPER for me!”
black knight verse:
Tumblr media
“I deserve a pay raise.” Not that her current salary is terrible- actually, it might be more affordable, living in Seoul rather than in LA. At the very least, she doesn’t need to give up half of her paycheck to cover rent…although then again, it can’t be traditional, living in her current boss’s apartment. One may say it’s even unprofessional…and she might agree if not for the fact that he’s hardly ever in there to begin with. The couch in the office is his actual bed these days. “No one told me I was going to have two jobs while I was here- he needs to find something to do outside of his job. At the rate he’s going, I’ll surprised if he makes it to the end of the year-“ Not that, mind you, she’s going to let him deteriorate to that point. Jae Hwan won’t let that happen either, but it doesn’t change that Lee is barreling in that direction and there’s so much either of them can do to slow his descent. And the quickest way to do that is get to the bottom of the case- if only pleasing him was as simple as pleasing the Pigeon Man…all that guy needs is a bag of seeds and the pigeons. Nevertheless, her eyes soften as she sets her folded report on the desk. “…It’s not like the truth is going to change anything.” But he’s going to go for it anyways, won’t he? Find out the full story or die trying. She doesn’t know the whole story behind this all-consuming desire, no one does and Lee isn’t planning on changing that but…
“I want answers.” Not only to figure out the irritating conundrum of the case, but also set Lee’s ghosts to rest. It’s hard to live one’s own life, when the ghosts of those beloved have not been properly buried.
She would know that BETTER than anyone else.

so anyway self-indulgent ocxcanon soulsborne ships rundown yay 🎉
DS1
tyr/fair lady: hes enamored to the point of great yearning, meanwhile shes blind, cant even understand him, and also thinks he is the sister that he killed. is unable to express his feelings at all and goes a little bonkers from it. kills her remaining sisters at quelana's behest. eventually does manage to move on, but keeps an egg from her and eventually raises a spider son
tyr/solaire: he gets the good route at least, but also i do like to think of the bad route. they fight gwyn together but solaire moves on and thats the last they see of each other. in all likelihood they also never even touched nor confessed
DS2
artur/lucatiel: two knights going through hell together but they are fated to die apart. artur does indeed carry her memory onward, all the way to when she's summoned as a lord of cinder in ds3 and gives ymir her name and story. girl yaoi
artur/shanalotte: the herald who sends artur to her death, albeit not with that full intention. knight and lady dynamic, of course. artur’s memory haunts her until the day she too, comes to pass
DS3
ymir/anri: Man.png. tragically intertwined from the start. ymir worked directly under and was betrayed by the pontiff, & anri having lost everything to aldritch... anyway we know how this all ends (not marriage route tho)
ymir/firekeeper: ummm. what if i was a knight and you were my only constant companion, and what if you were the only one by my side when i decided to betray the world's flame. and we were both girls
ELDEN RING
darda/varre: psychosexual obsession of mutual hatred and disgust. they will NEVER get it together. their goals and damage end up being too much at odds for anything past Pretending. maybe if things were different then it could've been better. darda does eventually kill him
keziah/ranni: Literally The Only Happy Ending Pair. a dynamic based on mutual respect and intrigue. they go through hell and back and end up realizing what the other means to them. they get sappy. keziah does get conflicted when he learns she was behind night of black knives but sorts through it, becomes wife guy
and ironically enough halli has no ships! keziah is definitely somewhere close in this verse, but otherwise he just fucks around

! write with me or fight with me!
you either die by my sword or the most painful head canons imaginable! *merida vc* choose yer fate
just kidding!
hey there gaymers, i am crissy! i am 22, live in pst, go by she/her pronouns and honestly would very much like a distraction from life -- preferably in the form of 1x1 and rp in general. i am currently doing online school plus trying/failing at adulting, being a crazy pink haired college student living on microwave dimsum with my crazy fluffy demon cat, but that still leaves me with a lot of time and what better way to spend that time then crying and dying, am i right, boys?
so without further ado ( adieu? idk gusundheit ) here are a list of discomboblulated plot things that have been floating around in my head that i might be fun to do ( plot fragments, ideas, ocs, fcs i like, settings, genres etc )! i’d prefer a message if u liked any of these in the inbox or dm form, my tumblr ims are open and my discord user is mr. worldwide#2918 ( pitbull supremacy ) but if ur shy i will message u and be annoying!
lastly: i prefer hcing in the dms to replies, however i will do replies/ask memes slowly, i don’t really like making blogs and prefer google docs/discord and i ask ( gently and respectfully ) that minors do not interact.
thank u and happy hunger games! xx
Tumblr media
COLLEGE TOTALLY SPIES -- i was really obsessed with this picture right here and i thought that the picture would be a good premise for a little four person group based on totally spies. i was thinking that these three college students/young adults some friends maybe not some enemies or just on completely different ends of the social agenda get bonded together when they accidentally end up roped in a top secret spy organization that is fronted by a record store. the details and flesh of the plot i think would be cute to figure out all together maybe in a google doc or a big discord so we can make the rp to perfect world building specifications. right now i have two spots open!
my friend lexi over at comradc has taken the cool goth asian girl and is using lyrica okano

- i really want to play a himbo skater boy evan mock like its my dream i know nothing abt him other than he probably goes by something like mouth or juice or tris or dex or dante but !!!! he has buzzed hair he buzzes designs into, does stick n pokes, hates cops, will kiss anyone, likes to mosh at house shows, smokes a lot and sounds like crush from finding nemo, probably ur parents worst nightmare if im honest rodrick heffley energy -- adopt him for any plot
Tumblr media Tumblr media

Tumblr media Tumblr media
-ok i also really really want to play streak aka silas montgomery who is like very like sidekick best friend to the golden boy main character, does a kick ass goat impression, class clown, relentlessly hits on like the most difficult person in school, does crazy things for laughs and attention, just wants to make people happy, only wears hawaiian shirts, finger guns, is going nowhere in life, his dad is probably the dean at whatever prestigious school also he is very very depressed and drinks often! love u! a I Feel Like Im The Worst So I Always Act Like Im The Best electra heart baby PINTEREST

i have a kind of oc that had their parents die in a factory gas leak that was the governments fault and it turned them into a vigilante assasin that is slowly picking off bootlicker government people one by one pretending to be one of them until bam! gets attached to the rich asshole son or daughter of the head hauncho or one of the higher ups ... drama
rich little celebrity fussy wussy being held captive by the mafia and the tired stoic mafia guard but they fall in love
i kind of like any plot that involves one person that is really loud or angry or dramatic or whiny and the other one is kind of sweet and gentle or does not talk much idk make brain happy

Suns, Moons and Songs.
My favourite. The soundtrack is littered with songs that allude to Historia and Levi’s part in the plot. I’ll just bring up some of the major ones.
Okay, first biggie - Zero Eclipse.
This song is purposefully vague in a lot of places, in that a lot of the lyrics could fit to Ymir, and I believe the sentiment is genuine. Ymir was a huge part of Historia’s life before she left. However, there are a lot of similarities between her and Levi, which is handy for Yams. Same for the bond Erwin and Levi shared. Clever, clever.
Tumblr media
The first verses could work for either on the whole, but the lines about jealousy and blades doubling and the use of kid absolutely reminds me of Ymir when she joins the survey corps with Historia.
When we get to the bridge, the first lines about never hearing the person sigh of ecstasy likely suggests that Ymir wanted to get to that point with Historia but they never did. And of course the chorus very much reflects Ymir’s speech to Historia about living a life she can be proud of, and not doing silly suicidal things to be the hero, like she did with Daz.
Okay our next verse is where it gets very interesting!
Tumblr media
Every single line fits Levi perfectly. Seeing the fallen? It’s that image at Shiganshina of Erwin surrounded by their fallen comrades. Still we have that question, what will Levi do with those sacrifices? A recurring theme, but now we should have a pretty good idea of the answer.
Next we have a direct reference to the Beast Titan - which conveniently also links perfectly to Historia’s childhood bullies - both threw stones to ‘make us go away.’
‘It was only the face of anger, and kindness, it lit my way’ - well this has soo many connotations. So firstly, Historia and the bullies. Because Frieda taught her to be a good, kind girl, Historia understands that the bullies were only acting out of anger, and kindness is the answer here. Hmm ... who else right about now in the story could do with realising anger and revenge won’t solve anything - but working together might, even if you’ve been pelted by stones at the hands of this person? It’s Levi and Zeke. And Historia’s influence on Levi - the idea of kindness lighting his way - will mean he makes the right decision. It’s also worth noting very briefly here, because I will explore this more later, that in the manga, we have that removed scene of Levi behaving aggressively towards Historia, although she later puts this aside. Originally, Isayama also wanted to parallel Levi with Historia’s childhood bullies, but he changed his mind for the anime. We’ll look at this more when we check out an interesting interview by Yams.
‘Ain’t no picnic to be abandoned’ - again, such a simple line, so many meanings. Historia and Levi’s childhood parallels are uncanny, and both were abandoned by parental figures in their youth which we see in Uprising had lasting impacts on them. So much so, they work together to open an orphanage, saving children from within the walls and even the underground.
‘It led us here, we had to share the pain.’ I mean, I’ve said this so many times, but how could they not end up bonding over all this!? But wait, there’s more. Shiganshina happens, and Levi looses Erwin. Historia has not so long ago lost Ymir, and we see how upset she is when she receives her letter. Remember that scene though where Levi arrives and she wipes away her tears? Yep. They were both abandoned again in a sense, and so, it only serves to push them closer together. They mourn for what have been pretty much their other halves since the start of the series, and they do it together. Yams is screaming at us to read between the lines for these two, while he drops just enough surface hints to keep the trail warm, so to speak.
Okay the next lyrics ‘Now you are a part of me, I will defend and honour thee’ ... what do they remind you of? I get knight protecting Queen vibes. And this literally used to be the role of the Ackermans according to Kenny's grandpa - the sword and shield to the crown. Levi is virtually back in that role for Historia, and we come full circle after the years of persecution.
NEXT. ‘Did you think that you could die a hero?’ Kenny tells Levi everyone is drunk on a dream in order to keep moving forwards. He asks Levi, what are you? A hero? Everyone expects Levi to go out fighting, taking out Zeke and finally fulfilling his vow to Erwin. But that's not the message of this story. We need to break the cycle of revenge and hate, remember? Kruger said so himself - love someone within the walls, it's the only way to stop this cursed history. Levi won’t choose revenge. He’ll give up on his dream to go out like a hero, because now he has something to return home to.
‘Our awakening means less than zero.’ And just in case you were wondering, it’s not because of any Acker-bond crap. It’s the real deal; just like Zeke told Eren in chapter 130. Being an Ackerman has nothing to do with either Levi or Mikasa’s feelings towards their respective loves.
Let’s look at that chorus again, while I start to blush in the corner. ‘You’re trembling, we share a kiss, our worlds eclipse.’ Heck, I never knew SNK could be so ... ahem, yeah. It gets raunchier further on, by the way. But besides the obvious suggestion of passion here, we have the symbolism from the song’s title - the eclipse. What happens during an eclipse? Well, depends what sort to be fair heh, but for a solar eclipse, we have the moon moving in front of the sun, blocking it’s light. And we see the Dark Side of the Moon. Wait!? Isn’t that literally the title of Levi's character song ...? Oh, shit. We’ll check out those lyrics later. Historia is often associated with dawn light, which of course means the sun. The eclipse here is her pregnancy. The two solar bodies appear to become one. Not to mention the literal shape of her stomach! We had those lyrics about ‘letting our worlds collide’ earlier too. Not just referring to the pregnancy, but their supposedly different ideologies around violence/revenge and love/kindness/forgiveness.
Tumblr media
Now for the best bits.
‘Black sugar, keep it, up til the dawn.’ Told you it gets better. Black sugar is apparently something very addictive. So Levi and Historia are engaged in something very addictive here, keeping them up until the dawn ...? Ah. Yes. Makes sense, considering her current condition.
And then my very favourite line, that hit me right in the gut when I first listened to this. Because the words sounded very familiar, but not for Historia.
‘Make a promise that I cannot regret.’ Levi’s whole theme is not regretting the choices that you make. It’s repeated over and over. He makes a promise to Erwin in his vow, but he comes to terms with the fact that fulfilling this is no longer what he really wants - we’ve just seen that realisation in 136 when he talks about how he’s never bungled one of Erwin’s orders, but yet his last one ... He knows attempting to keep that promise will mean he likely won’t ‘get back out alive,’ so instead, he will make Historia a promise that he can’t regret, because he just can’t ‘learn how to let you go.’ I’M NOT CRYING - YOU ARE. Do you remember the two letters - from Petra and Ymir - about marriage? I think we know what Levi is going to dedicate his heart to in the end. Note also the, ‘as long as I can see you, but in secret.’ That just gives us that final confirmation that the relationship alluded to here in Zero Eclipse is one that has been hidden from us - this fits neither Historia/Ymir or Levi/Erwin, although there are elements of both of these in the song.
Okay, here's the lyrics to Levi’s song. I’m not going to rip it apart like I did with Zero Eclipse, because a) I think a lot of it is self explanatory, and b) the next chapter comes out soon and like, I’d love to have got through everything I want to say before then. So some quick (ish, knowing me) notes:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay so this second set of lyrics is the one I want to draw attention to - cleverly nestled in the middle of the song. We’re going to ‘someday’ see the dark side of the moon ‘revealed’. Yeah, when there is an eclipse. This is the only time you see the dark side of the moon. Literally. So we’ll see Levi’s other side when he finds Historia, and they create this eclipse - this child. His true nature will be revealed, and he will not choose violence or revenge.
‘Persuasion by memories of pain an essential lesson.’ Okay, I can’t really go hugely into this without the Akatsuki no Requiem video, which we’ll look at in a bit. Because then things will mind-bogglingly make sense. If you’ve already seen it and know the theory behind it, then you’ll get what I mean. But essentially, our ending for Levi is going to be bittersweet, because while he ends up with a family of his own finally, he is also plagued with regret and sorrow for what came to pass before, and the huge role he played in it.
Tumblr media
‘Just being without regrets, is my own decision.’ Such a simple line, so many powerful meanings. Levi will make the ultimate choice with no regrets in his promise to Historia, and their child. He cannot regret either of them. But he has to make that decision, and we know it will be difficult, because it will mean failing to execute Erwin’s last order. It will probably look likely that he will make the wrong choice up until the very last moment. This again too links in with the ackertalk between Zeke and Eren. Levi is confirming that his decision to be with Historia does not stem from duty or something in his genes. It’s the real deal.
More Fun Song Facts.
Here's the lyrics for Before Lights Out:
Freedom! Freedom! Forgive Me! Retake Maria! Victorious, triumphant! All of my kingdom For your return I will let it burn! I will let it burn! Dear departed I’ll cry for you in a dream Now I must rise to be queen Be worthy Be worthy
The song that is a different version of APETITAN - the soundtrack to Zeke’s Beast’s first appearance. Before Lights Out plays when Erwin leads the suicide charge towards Zeke, after Levi makes his vow to ‘take down the beast titan.’ He watches Erwin and the scouts charge to their deaths and whispers, ‘I’m sorry.’
Because he’s never going to fulfil that vow, is he? And we know why when we read the lyrics of the song.
HOLY MOTHER OF FORESHADOWING I have chills.
Ahhhhh I need to talk about Akatsuki no Requiem I guess. This one definitely needs it’s own post.
You still with me? I have drunk a lot of coffee at this point.

Late night/ early morning posting cause I can:
So. Uh. Them character designs, huh? This is gonna be long, sooooo. Yeah. These are my pokemon oc's btw.
But really I just want to talk about them cause ever since I reimagined what they look like in my head, I just can't get them out.
First let's talk about Alexis. He honestly stayed the same, minus the hair. Though after some thinking, I feel like I might switch his white hoodie for a blue/black one. I'm not sure. But that's not what I want to talk about here. Oh no, I want to talk about his turtleneck! I've said before that it's sleeveless, but it's also cropped. Why? Why not. He also wears these fingerless elbow length gloves, cause why not. But really I like the juxtaposition of him wearing his hoodie, which generally covers a lot, and him with out it to be do revealing. Not to mention that the man is pretty buff. Being a trainer and a daycare owner is no joke y'all. Gotta but in the work. So I like to believe when he's training with his team, this is what you'll see.
Eva had a more drastic change. Besides shortening her hair, she now has vitiligo, something that I wasn't expecting but I like it very much! In terms of clothing, I want to have that blend between athletic casual and geeky engineer/ nerd. Still trying to figure that out, and I doubt any picrew will be able to perfectly capture it lol. In terms of body shape, she's still very tall, but not as slim, as she has a bit of muscle to her ( I picture her as a runner). While totally different in terms or looks and age, Penny Parker from Into the Spider verse was a huge inspirations for Eva's aesthetic.
Danica was the easiest honestly. Her whole look was that she looked soft and cozy( hence the warm neutral colors, mostly brown) but there was something ....off about her. While the picrew didn't have it, I wanted her to have a long red scarf, that both kinda matches her look, but also sticks out. The problem now is that her hair is longer now, and I don't want her design to be jumbled up. Maybe I should put her hair in a pony tail? Or should I have kept it short? But other than that, I like Danica's design. Quite soft vibes that will make you poffins or absolutely destroy you ☺️
Jude was also easy, given the games they're from has character customization. What they usually go for is more red, blacks and blues, and mostly things that are more androgynous. That doesn't mean they dabble in masculine or feminine clothing, it's just what they generally where. I like how the red is a great contrast with their green eyes, I love it. In general I want the vibe they give off as, ' Don't mess with me' but chill enough that you'll approach them. Whether or not they give you the time of day is up to them. And it turns if body shape, they're still the tallest, and pretty lanky.
Kenji is interesting, cause he's a lot of things. I wanted to combine him with the softness of Ethan and the bold loudness of Gold, with a little something of my own. What I ended up is with a loud nerd who does things and enjoys doing them. But really, I feel like Kenji is an artistic person, so I wanted to reflect that in his design. While the picrew I used showed him with just a plain shirt, I believe that it would be of different patches/ graphics designs on it. The same would go for his pants to. Like when he enters a room, you know he's there by his outfit. But I also not want it to be too crazy because Kenji is still a softie that values his quite time. His quite time to cuddle. Cuddle with the homies. He also LOVES jewelry, especially earrings. I don't know what is up with me and making a good portion of my oc's being athletic, but I feel like he would take up gymnastics. Don't ask my why. I don't know either. This is probably a good time to mention that I am not athletic, nor do I know shit about gymnastics.
Naomi, like Jude was pretty easy. I literally just swapped the colors of the varsity jacket and hat in game, and have her some hoop earrings that Nessa probably gave her at some point. I added some yellow to represent her being champion/ being a knight. I was gonna give her headphones cause she loves music, but I forgot :/.
Aster was fun cause she was originally gonna look like a splitting image of her mom, but then I said " what if she looked more like her dad?" and went with it. Her hair, I'd imagine, would just grow from the events from USUM/ SM so like her pigtail braids are just really long now. She wears a lot of turquoise and orange.
Jin. Oh Jin. You absolute enigma you. I have no idea what they're style is yet. The only thing I know is that I really like the long braid. Other than that. Nothing. I wanted them to resemble Emerald Brendan than oras Brendan though.
I'm kinda just realizing that I talk about this as if I can draw. I can't. I just watched a lot of speed paints, and in general like listening to people talk about fashion/ character design.

I KNOW NOTHING ABT BRUCIE’S CANON SO TELL ME WHAT U KEEP FOR UR INTERPRETATION AND WHAT U DONT
okay so. canon meaning the Gotham series because i don’t even know what counts as actual canon. even though im ( clearly ) quite canon averse for hp stuff i actually really enjoy what they did with Bruce in gotham / the show as a whole. here is a list of some major things that i’m keeping / not keeping, including stuff from the nolan trilogy since that’s influenced bruce’s adult life. i’ll try and explain them somewhat well for people who don’t know wtf i’ve been taking about this whole time
keeping:
okay first brucie is a hoe but we all knew that lmao.
keeping the part where he starts self-harming behaviors to “ over come pain ” and they run a fair bit deeper than what’s shown in canon but..... idk if i’ll ever publicly write about that in too much detail, it’s disturbing
i’m keeping bruce and selina of course, no matter what their adult relationship looks like she HEAVILY influenced not just his preferences for partners but who he is as a person and that’s very important. i’m also keeping the fact that he doesn’t say goodbye or give her any kind of warning when he leaves gotham for and entire decade.
i’m also keeping him being socially awkward, shy, and an easy target for bullying when he’s younger, it’s part of what makes his whole “i have friends now” arc so much more toxic lmao.
also the phase where he starts acting out with substances / girls ( and boys in this case ) is pretty important and kind of never ends !!
i’m keeping + expanding on the whole court of owls thing..... more on this later bc i need to refresh my knowledge of canon but he’s there for long enough to come out with a significant amount of mental / physical training that he didn’t have before, i’m also keeping the deep brainwashing and the part where they send a clone to take his place in regular life also holds up lmao just not in his hogwarts verse. just. if r’as al ghul is his voldemort then he basically joined the death eaters for a second there, mostly unknowingly but still, i hope that explains it well enough
the thing where the jermiah valeska / the joker is fixated with being bruce’s brother / friend and subsequently getting his attention by whatever means necessary... i kinda love that i’m not gonna lie it’s completely cursed
as much as i hate it i’m also keeping both of the times he fires alfred because he can’t process his own feelings or recognize that alfred loves him unconditionally and has literally been his surrogate father this entire time....... it’s cursed but..... necessary
i LOVE the fact that he never really interacts with the penguin in person that much and it’s mostly by oswald’s reputation that bruce knows him. idk shit about what’s in the comics but for my version of bruce, the riddler and the penguin especially are prominent enemies.
so in the third movie of the nolan trilogy it’s established that he + his parents spent some time visiting the orphanage in gotham and i’m definitely keeping that and expanding that to say that he and his mother specifically spent a significant amount time there and that he had some meaningful childhood friendships with children there. what that changes is that bruce would certainly recognize john blake on sight, and might even greet him like an old friend in private. ( i would give anything for a john blake to write with and not just bc i’m a jgl stan but anyWaYS )
i’m also keeping the part where there’s significant wear and tear on his joints that leaves him in pain a lot of the time. maybe not necessarily to the same extent as in the dark knight rises, but still to the point where he’s suffering by his mid-thirties.
bruce can and will adopt children. this is kinda sticky because obviously you can’t be batman and have children that don’t know, so they’ll be trained accordingly and he has to be careful with which children he takes in. but he’s definitely much more fatherly to dick grayson / any other children he might take in than in some interpretations.
not keeping:
trigger warning: holocaust mention. so there’s one specific scene and i don’t remember how bruce is in it but basically. the riddler ( as part of someone else’s Evil Plan ) has bruce and lucius fox trapped in a literal gas chamber and i don’t know that’s just TOO DARK considering that my version of bruce is jewish ( and even just the kid who plays him in gotham being jewish + lucius being black ) and edward nygma is a lot of things but i don’t think he’s THAT evil. i’d need to plot out the specific details of what he does instead with specific eds but..... what the fuck u feel
i’m flexible with poison ivy’s very confusing arc...... i kinda like the version of her where she’s very powerful dumb as shit ( like delphi uwu ) the best it’s iconic
i’m not keeping rachel dawes as a part of his canon ( although i’m willing to plot for that ) i just can’t find a way to make any of that make sense lmao. gotta find another way for the joker to permanently destroy him.
so in gotham canon bruce and his parents go to see a movie and then leave when it’s finished and that’s when they’re murdered, and i’m keeping that version because the nolan version where they leave the theatre because bruce is scared is literally too sad to even think about
i uh. don’t like gotham’s version of jim gordon lmao i’m sorry i just think it kinda missed The Point of his character. ( not that i know anything but. ) i don’t think the Military Man(TM) that he is ( and in a distinctly different way than alfred is ) is someone that bruce would look up to and i also don’t think that bruce would view his militarization of gcpd as a good thing. i’m open to interacting with an jim gordons, but for my interpretation jim will be more like g.ary oldm.an’s version of him, gentle, unassuming, and fatherly by nature.

Why is everybody keep forgetting that elves had quite some forces and were not some helpless souls? Why do ppl forget that it's their own racism that initially caused the war in the Dales? They do not. None of the races and religions in Dragon Age is perfect, yet one has a particular bias from fandom
Hi Anonymous person.
Um. Sorry, but … what? That’s … a lot of vitriol. I’m … going to do this point by point.
Why is everybody keep forgetting that elves had quite some forces and were not some helpless souls?
No one is claiming that the elves were ‘helpless’ in the sense that they were children, or somehow unable to fight. Elven sources are a bit spotty, for solid ‘in universe’ reasons, but there’s enough on the Emerald Knights to understand that they kicked some serious arse.
But. By the time Orlais set its sights on the Dales, it had already steamrolled over a bunch of other nations, effectively doubling its original size.
The grand nation of Orlais occupies a full quarter of the Thedosian continent and extends its influence far beyond its shifting borders. In ages past, Orlais flexed its military muscle, threatening territory belonging to Nevarra and Tevinter and outright invading Ferelden. One could argue that the Emperor or Empress of Orlais, regardless of competency, is the second most powerful person in Thedas – the first, of course, being the Divine.
Together, the two [Kordillus Drakon and Area Montlaures] transformed Orlais from a few squabbling clans controlling their own city states into an empire. Hand in hand, they conquered well into modern-day Ferelden and Nevarra, stamping out any worship of the Old Gods as well as lingering Alamarri and Ciriane Deities.
– World of Thedas Volume II
Sure, we have an account of the massacre of a pacifist nation (note that they are also vilified by the text, even though they are literally ‘helpless souls’ being overrun and slaughtered by an empire), but that is going to be the exception to the rule. Most of these ‘squabbling clans’ would have had warriors and fortifications. It didn’t matter. Orlais invaded, defeated them, forced them to convert – and absorbed the survivors. The Orlesian empire is The Blob.
Do you … not get how massive this thing is? A quarter of Thedas is under direct Orlesian control. That’s what came for the Dales. An almost endless supply of soldiers and weapons and supplies against one newborn nation. That’s what’s so scary about empires, once they get going: they can take the resources of the people they conquered yesterday – including the bodies of the actual people to be used as soldiers or workers – and use them against you today.
So yeah: big picture, they were ‘helpless souls’ being knocked down by the biggest bully in Thedas. They put up a hell of a fight – even took Montsimmard for a while – but they didn’t have the resources of an empire to sustain them, so they were screwed.
Why do ppl forget that it’s their own racism that initially caused the war in the Dales?
Okay so … racism. I feel like I keep saying ‘empires are bad’ and ‘conversion by the sword is bad’ and … these are somehow controversial statements that people want to refute? That’s … just a little bit scary, you know?
The elven people quite famously worked with humans. Specifically with the Alamarri rebels who took down the Tevinter Imperium. You know: Andraste?
At Shartan’s word, the sky
Grew black with arrows.
At Our Lady’s, ten thousand swords
Rang from their scabbards,
A great hymn rose over Valarian Fields gladly proclaiming:
Those who had been slaves were now free.
– Shartan 10:1.
– Dark Moon
There’s even a whole fucking verse about Shartan and his people making a bloody suicide run on the entire Tevinter army to try to rescue Andraste:
The Liberator drew the blade at his side
And charged the pyre, the freedom of the Prophet before his eyes,
But from the legion came a storm of arrows
Blacker than night. And the disciple who had fought side by side
With the Lady fell, along with a hundred of his People.
And among the Alamarri ten thousand swords fell to the ground in a chorus of defeat.
– World of Thedas Volume II
That’s pretty heroic! And pretty tragic! Elven slaves and human rebels standing side by side, fighting an empire. Winning, in the end, although at great cost. And yet what you’re trying to tell me is that the elves are ‘racist’ (also: not a great word to use in reference to an oppressed people because racism requires social power) rather than, say, justifiably worried about the growing power of a nascent empire?
He [Kordillus Drakon] began his holy quest at the ripe old age of sixteen by taking to the battlefield. At the time, each clan had its own variety of the cult of Andraste, its own rituals, traditions and versions of Andraste’s words. Young Drakon unified them by the sword.
– World of Thedas II
Orlais is aggressive and fanatical. It is running around slaughtering people who disagree with its religious beliefs. If you are a non-Andrastian nation sitting more-or-less on the Orlesian border, watching other nations fall and be forcibly converted – and those people just believed different things about Andraste – you have to know what’s coming. This really only goes one way. Are you really going to call closing your borders and prepping for conflict ‘racism’? Is that really the word you want to use?
Halamshiral, “the end of the journey,” was our capital, built out of the reach of the humans. We could once again forget the incessant passage of time. Our people began the slow process of recovering the culture and traditions we had lost to slavery.
But it was not to last. The Chantry first sent missionaries into the Dales, and then, when those were thrown out, templars. We were driven from Halamshiral, scattered. Some took refuge in the cities of the shemlen, living in squalor, tolerated only a little better than vermin.
– The Dales
Relations broke down completely when the Chantry sent missionaries. Because of course they did. The fact that Orlais fundamentally does not believe in religious freedom is the very thing that the elves are afraid of. It is also, you know, a pretext. Provocation meant to push the elves so they start something and Orlais can say it was their fault. There is almost always a pretext. The empire says it’s coming in to resolve a local conflict, or they’re dealing with an incident on the border, or they’re ‘liberators’. And then they stay. And they take.
Do you really mean to blame the elves for being conquered?
Why everybody dismisses Minaeves’ story about how her clan treated the unwanted mages?
No one has forgotten or dismissed Minaeve. Everyone is keenly aware that – on a meta level – Bioware did some quite ugly retconning in Inquisition to make both elves and mages look less sympathetic. Many people have noted that Minaeve’s story is the exact opposite of Lanaya’s story, and that neither Velanna nor Merrill talk about anything like that. Nevertheless, it is raised at least three times in Inquisition: by Minaeve, by Vivienne and by The Iron Bull. So yes, that is a deliberate retcon made at a late stage in the series in order to allow people to do exactly what you’re doing: yell that the elves are ‘just as bad’. It’s gross.
In universe, of course, it’s worth noting that Minaeve was seven when this happened. Whatever it was, it was terrible – but it may not have been what she thought. It’s also worth noting that the Dalish are wandering nomads with few resources, under constant threat from humans in general and templars in particular, and if they did find themselves forced to throw one mage child to the templars to protect the rest – that is fucking horrible, but says more about the world Orlais has created than it does about the elves.
But I have to ask – why do you think it’s so important that everyone remember a twenty-second pro-templar conversation with a minor character, instead of extensive conversations about elven society and losses with Merril and Velanna? Those are two grown women who have lived their whole lives as Dalish and have a keen understanding of the culture of their clans. Or whole novels about Fiona and Briala, respectively the leaders of the mage and elven rebellions?
I know the novels are supplementary material so I’m certainly not blaming anyone for being unfamiliar with them. But if there were things I wish people could always remember when talking about the elves – it would be those stories of oppression and revolution.
I mean Chantry sucks big time, but can we please stop making elves into some magic creatures that only do good. They do not. None of the races and religions in Dragon Age is perfect, yet one has a particular bias from fandom.
It’s … interesting that you brought ‘race’ into this. Because I didn’t. I haven’t been writing criticisms of ‘humans’. I’ve left the Rivaini alone; usually mentioned Fereldans favourably; I haven’t been talking about Antiva or Nevarra. They haven’t come up.
I was talking about the aggression of the Orlesian empire and its Chantry. The elves were brought up as possibly the people who have lost the most to Orlesian aggression. They’re certainly the best sourced of those people. I’ve talked about the Chasind and Avvar where I can (humans!). I’ve talked about dwarves and Qunari. I bring up the Daughters of Song and the Disciples of Andraste where I can, because I have references for them. I know that a whole lot of other cultures were destroyed by Drakon and his Chantry – but alas, I can’t say anything meaningful about them because there are no codex entries, in game dialogue or other reference materials for them.
Of course the elves are not ‘perfect’. While Zathrian’s rage is understandable, his decision to keep the curse going even when it began to threaten his clan was terrible. Merril’s clan was far too easily led to bully and exclude her; they were her family and someone should have stood up for her. Historically, the Dales probably made a mistake staying out of the Second Blight. I mean – I get it. The Blight softened up Tevinter enough to let the rebels take it down. It could have worked again against Orlais. But in retrospect – bad idea. Didn’t work.
Those are just examples. Of course there are more. But it doesn’t matter. That an elven character fucked up at some point does not change the fact that they face racial persecution as non-humans (and are pretty clearly coded as a combination of indigenous, Jewish and Romani people), that they face religious persecution as non-Andrastians and that the Orlesian empire stole their land and forced them into slums.
And I note all of this because of the … tenor of your Ask. Had you said something like “This elven stuff is great, but I’d like to chat about how the dwarves are basically facing an apocalypse and no one will help them, and also wouldn’t a story about a casteless revolution be great?” I would have said “Yes! Let’s talk about that!” Had you said something like “Isn’t it fucked up that the Qunari are treated largely as savage invaders, operating as an ‘Other’ it’s okay to hate?” I would have said “Yes! Yes, it is!”
But … this reads like a list of ‘reasons why people should stop pretending the elves don’t deserve to be oppressed’. And … somehow equates ‘Orlesians’ with ‘humans’?
I mean – surely you aren’t saying that our sympathies should not be with the frequently enslaved minority group who are forced to live as second class citizens in appalling slums, and who have been forcibly converted to a religion they don’t want to follow … but rather with the empire that took everything from them?
Because … I really hope not.

Burnt Heart: Ch 6. Trading One Pain for Another
At the Hylian Kingdom's castle, a Hasai in armour gave the King of Hyrule a respectful bow. His militia waited outside castle grounds for him to return, and he had traveled a long way to do arrive to this country. Before he could start his mission, the Hasai wanted to be civil and cordially with the Hylian government. Would make things easier in the long run. "King Covarog. My name is Agent Hresvelg. As a member of the Dorami tribe to the Hasai people, I'm tasked in arresting criminals and securing runaways for her majesty, Emperor Zannah. I am here with a squad of Theron to acquire one such runaway. I ask for your blessing to bring back a Hasai hiding away here in Hyrule. I promise that lethal force, or even use of weaponry or magic will not be used unless absolutely necessary. We will be in and out without being even a nuisance to the lives of your people. Is this information to your liking?"
Covarog wanted to have his wife makeup some excuse that he could not be here at this meeting. He always hated dealing with diplomatic issues pertaining to Zannah. Even over the years, he still could not shake the feeling that the Empress was always up to no good. Still, he remained somewhat civil. So, when his wife dragged him tot he throne room, he did his best to be... cordial.
"A criminal or a runaway?" Covarog repeated. "You must understand my surprise. The Empire has such strict rules and regulations, that there are hardly any of the such."
"Might we ask exactly what this person has done?" Zarazu wished to have a bit more information. "If this person has caused harm to my citizens, I would prefer to deal judgement with Zannah, not apart."
"A runaway. We know that Hasai are allowed to live in Hyrule. We'd never take a citizen who freely lives in Hyrule away unless they committed a crime against the Empire itself. Even then, we'd discuss the matter with you first. This Hasai in particular we are after fled Empire territory with damaging information that could cause infrastructure in the Empire to be crippled for a time. We believe that they might be a threat to themselves, as well as others." Hresvelg gave a nod of his head to Covarog in particular. "My grand father was the once the war hero Grand Admiral Bellum. I believe you were only a child when our people were at war, but I think you would know him. He was a level headed man, known for keeping his word and keeping respect amongst allies and enemies. So please know, I swear on his grave and family legacy that we will not be a danger to your people in our operation."
"We understand, though, before you take this perpetrator back to the Empire, we would like to speak to this person." Covarog explained to Hresvelg. "Put a face to a name, and understand why this happened, especially if they were working with another unpleasant character here in Hyrule. We do not want either of our nations in turmoil."
"A fair request, don't you agree, sir?" Zarazu asked the agent.
Hresvelg shared his grand father's poker face. He was glad too, because how the hell was he supposed to respond to that. Sorry, but his Emperor ordered that the Hylian royalty not witness the target, but I'm sure you can understand right? And he loathed lying. "I'm afraid it's highly important that the runaway is brought back immediately to Empire territory for questioning. They are also a teenager, so I imagine their parents must be ready to deliver quite the earful to them for their misbehaviour. However, out of good faith, I promise I will bring to you alive and as unharmed as allowed any unsavoury characters we have found them with. Is this request acceptable?"
"A kid?" Zarazu now sounded concerned. "How can a teenager get such vital information?"
"You know as well as I do that some children are trained to be deadly, my queen." Covarog reminded her, knowing full well of the Empire's hostile tactics. "Very well. Bring them here."
That would be good enough to not have Hylian forces interfere. "As you wish."
And that wasn't him making a promise either. Leaving the castle, Hresvelg flashed a light in the sky. Flying above a single was received, and the command was given a go.
~
Two weeks had passed since Grievous had arrived. So many days since Zizi had left her house. The Waku girl didn't know how she could help patch the relationship of her father and his wife if she didn't return. In the meantime, she slowly dropped her guard around the family, yet it seemed that Kahli never opened up to her the way he did with his other children. To them, despite tensions, he was warm, attentive and loving. Everything a father should be. To her, he was still rather indifferent. Outside, she was playing on chess board with Urboro. Kahli forbad her from initiating challenges of physical combat, so Grievous thought of different ways to see which siblings she could defeat in some ways. "My knight takes your rook."
"Annnnd... checkmate." Urboro knocked over Grievous' king with her queen. "You left your king unguarded. A knight shouldn't leave his post unless necessary. Got a little too ahead of yourself there, Grivy. I think you should stick to checkers, you beat Manaco seven times already in that game."
Grievous looked at the board, stunned in disbelief. How did she miss that? Glaring at Urboro, she didn't like the fact that she made a bet over a game of chess. "Don't be a jerk. Best two out of three."
"I'm not a jerk, I'm just took extra lessons from Uncle Ralnor in chess." Urboro grinned widely at Grievous. "Do I detect a tint of..." She held over her eyes, pretending to look, teasing. "A sore loser?"
"I just don't like you undermining my value as an intellectual. Just name your stupid prize for winning." Grievous crossed her arms, embarrassed at her loss.
"You shall have the honor of painting my toenails." Urboro set down a jar of polish in front of Grievous. "And I will paint yours."
"Painting nails? I don't understand the need."
"Of course you don't…" Urboro opened the bottle. "It's to look pretty. Feel good about yourself. To catch someone's eye, make them notice you."
"Confidence? Like my face paint? But no one can see your toes under most circumstances." Grievous had a new thought enter her mind. She never had an opportunity to speak of such things with her other half siblings or other students at the academies she attended. "Do you think I'm pretty?"
"Your lover in bed can." Urboro winked at Grivy. "A girl has got to be prepared." At her question, Urboro stared at her. "Of course you're pretty. You got an adorable tail, a huge butt, your breasts aren't that big but so what, if you'd wipe off that face paint, I guarantee you'd have a date by the end of the day. I can give you some flirting pointers and---" She gasped. "We should go bar hopping. I can totally get you a guy with a shredded eight pack."
"Wait. Are you talking about sex?" Grievous tightened at her shoulders, her tail waging back and forth anxiously. Was her butt really that noticeable? Was it due to her tail? "I'm not well versed in such matters. Are you?"
"I'm dating a Hylian blacksmith who is built like a boulder." Urboro nearly purred. "Muscles and such a big dick. Size does matter you know, but also how they use it." Her jaw nearly dropped next. "You don't know about sex?! Wait... you haven't had sex before, have you?!" She nearly squealed. "Oh goodness, I'm so totally going to get you laid."
"B-b-but what about the life bond? Wait..." Grievous' mind raced, her thoughts unable stop herself from thinking information through, even for her own good. "Before I left, one on my older half siblings at the academy was caught in what an officer described to us as an 'oral act' with another student. They would have been punished, had they not discovered neither became overly attached. They thought it was a miracle and summarized it was due to us being half-bloods." She snapped out of her thinking when she saw Urboro only smile even more. "Wait! That doesn't mean I'm looking for sex right now! I must look so bizarre to the people of this land. Is it even that good?"
"We're halves, Grivy. You're half Dal, half Waku. I'm half Lorleidian, half Waku. The Hasai life bond doesn't apply to me." Urboro flipped back her hair in a showy manner. "So you're probably not bound by it either." She then giggled, "And bizarre? Grivy, anyone who is 'new' and 'unique' is translated as exotic. You'll have men chasing your tail. Literally." She then paused. "Unless you want a woman?"
"I, um, never gave that part of my life any consideration." Grievous paused, looking at the clear nail polish bottle. "... you never told me if its good or not."
"Yes, you silly, it is good." Urboro then instructed. "Now, hold still. Appearance is one thing, but adding a little accessory never hurt anyone." She expertly started to paint Grivy's nails. "Hrm. I think metallic purple is your color."
Holding still would have to come another day. From the corner of her eye, Grievous spotted a hand motion from behind the barn. If the Kikai Empire had drilled anything into her with her teachings at the military academy, it was military tactics and strategy. Not care for her own safety, Grievous dove past Urboro, causing nail polish to slip up her leg in stroke. With an open arm, Grievous lightly close lined her half sibling to the ground to safety as an electric ball skidded by her head, every hair standing on top as a result. It appeared she was to trust her instincts to move. The trajectory of the shot would have hit Urboro had she dived left or right instead.
Men in black armour from head to toe stepped out from cover, weapons for capture using slings or shock sticks drawn, but others had crossbows trained if more violent means were necessary. "DAL! GET ON THE GROUND!"
"EEEEEEKKK!!!" Urboro was not expecting a full tackle and released a loud 'oof' when she hit the ground, feet straight up in the air. When the ball of lightning sailed past the pair, Urboro knew that there was trouble. Either someone was after her or after Grivy or trying to hurt her father. More than likely, it was Grivy, but she hoped this could be resolved... peacefully and without electrocution. "Hold onto me!" Urboro instructed Grivy, "And hold your breath!"
With that, the earth opened and swallowed both of them.
Electric shots from slings could be heard sizzling against the earth, voices being garbled by the layer of dirt between them. "Encircle the house! She's not getting away."
Grievous did as she was told, however, being trapped fully under the earth was nothing like trying to breath under water. This was far darker and murkier than she'd like.
Outside, the Theron Elite wasted no time covering any exit that the house provided. Going from assassinations to bounty hunting was
It took nearly a full minute, but Grievous and Urboro emerged inside one of her mother's greenhouse's. Coughing, the Zemlja then apologized between breaths, "Sorry, it's COUGH been a while since--ACHOO! I had to do that."
"What about your siblings still back at the house? We have to go back. Where's father?" Grievous took deep breaths after having to hold it in a pinch.
"Mom has a COUGH emergency defense system of sorts." Urboro brushed some dirt off Grievous' clothes. "Oh wait, that's right, she didn't tell you about Venu'sa."
"A what?"
Back at the house, Kahli was waking up from the behest of one of his other children. "What is it?"
"Daddy, I think someone bad is outside." Zaltana was peering through the window, hugging her stuffed dragon. "Venu'sa isn't sleeping anymore."
"Let's get away from the window, shall we?" Chatima led his baby sister away from view.
"Dad, what's going on?" Huyana asked her father, exiting her bedroom. "Sakari and Satinka say that there's more Hasai outside."
Hasai? At his house? With his children here?! Kahli's eye grew with fury. He knew this was an inevitability with Grievous showing up and staying. No way in heaven or hell Zannah would allow the possibility of this secret to spread. He should have left sooner to see her, but with Zizi still gone, Kahli had a duty to look after his children. "Stay here kids."
Kahli tightened his fists as he went to his door. Sure enough, he saw vines slivering, but no attack made by the guardian as of yet. Theron trained their weapons on him from different areas, positioned around fence posts or trees, and Kahli paused, taking a deep breath to channel his energies for battle if necessary. "Get off my property."
Agent Hresvelg had a bow an arrow ready in his grip, shouting from behind the barn for cover, "Give us the girl Sir Kahli. We don't want any trouble."
"You coming here with weapons pointed at my house, at my children invites conflict. I don't care if you're special forces. I will burn you to cinders if you don't back away."
The Hasai looked to their field commander, unsure what to do. "Orders sir?"
"Do not engage. Sir Kahli! I think it would be best for everyone if we stayed calm and orderly. The Emperor values the girl’s life. This isn't an assassination."
"Then why did she send you now? The Theron are Zannah’s death squad."
Hresvelg paused at this statement. There was truth in that, but missions were a mission. "I have no reason to lie to you. My orders are my orders."
Before Kahli could start his eruption of fire to give them a warning, he felt his spine shudder from a collision of pain against him. The metallic punch of T0-D brought him to his knees. "Declaration: Agent. The target is not here. Search the plantations. She must have not gone far."
The Theron nodded, running off into pairs, only a few staying behind to give their commander support if need be.
Kahli grunted, turning his head to look up at the Android. "What the hell."
"Apology: I didn't want to have to hurt you, but it looked like an altercation was about to occur, and I'd like it if you didn't kill any of the pristine meatbags. Also, that was for failing to mention you had broken your arrangement with the Emperor. What were you thinking keeping the girl here? I know she's been staying here for a while."
The man couldn't kick the robot from under his feet, so he rolled away, immediately running between it and his house. "T0-D. Tell your men to stand down. I'm going to see Zannah regardless. But if you take the girl, we'll have problems."
"Curiosity: Oh? Like what?"
The Waku put a finger against his head, pushing his hair tightly. "Or I blow myself up."
~
Zizi had spent the last two weeks in the Forest Temple, meditating and listening to the earth. It calmed her. Between Skull Kid's pleasant company and reconstructing parts of the temple, she felt a bit like her old self. Actually, she felt younger, like she was relieved of burdens in some ways. If Skull Kid could work miracles, making her feel like a kid again was definitely one of his talents. It made her forget her worries and heartaches just for a little while. Though, she knew she had to face them at some point. So, the Zemlja sat in the middle of the temple and harnessed her magic, green energy floating throughout the structure, into the ground, and around her in the air. There, she conversed with Zemlja himself.
"You still don't think you can forgive him?"
"Why should I? He lied to me. Kept this from me."
"He couldn't reveal it. Hasai physiology is very different than Lorleidian."
"I know that! It's just... I've never felt this angry before. Not even at Vul'kar."
"You have a right to be angry." Zemlja offered wise advice. "But if you continue to let it eat at you, you will find nothing but misery. And here, you have been drowning in it."
"... I know."
"It's hard to let go of hurts sometimes, isn't it?"
"Very hard."
"Then perhaps you better focus on what you do have, before you lose it."
"I already feel like I've lost him."
"But have you?"
"... I don't know. Why would he even love me after I lashed out at him? Doubt him? ... I can't forget what he did."
"No, you won't, you never will. Though, you cannot blame all the blame on him."
"You're right... the blame is Zannah's."
"Correct, it is hers. Do you still wish to cause her this type of pain as well?"
"Yes. She hurt me. Hurt my family. I thought her a friend."
"Then you must be careful... and not be foolish. Patience is your friend."
"Lorleidians don't condone violence."
"And violence isn't needed."
"No. No it's not.”
"Be careful, Zizi, and leave your thoughts of Zannah behind for now. Your family needs you."
"... we'll talk again soon?"
"I'll be here if you need me."
And with that, Zizi was pulled out of her trance by the tugging of Venu'sa's activation.
"Skully!!!" Zizi hurried out of the temple to the earth. "I'll be back! Gotta go! I'll bring you some cookies next time!" Jumping into the open earth, the Zemlja moved through the ground as fast as the wind through the leaves. Kahli's distress... she could sense it. Something was wrong, something was very wrong, and she was not going to let anymore damage come to her family... and she arrived outside her home, right in front of Kahli. Was he going to kill himself? The woman tackled him with all her force, and pinned his arms to the side, sitting on him. "... Kahli..." She looked at him with a glare. "If you ever dare to do that again, I'll divorce you for sure."
Kahli fell to the ground, shocked by his wife suddenly appearing from nowhere to hit him to the ground. He stared at her for a moment, before slowly turning his attention at the more concerning issue. "Zizi... we have a more pressing matter."
T0-D's eye flashed between blue and red, his mind thinking over Kahli's threat. "Illogical: Your threat has no merit. If you kill yourself, not only will you fight against the life debt you owe, but you will be leaving behind your children. Not to mention, Hasai do not commit direct suicide. In all my years I've never seen such a thing possible. I don't believe that you could do it. Give us the girl or I can't promise people might get hurt in the process."
Zizi got to her feet, looking at the Hasai troops and T0-D. She had a giant frown on her face. This was, indeed, a more pressing matter, though she had to keep her in mind Zemlja's words. There would no room for being foolish. Zannah would know that she knew now. Nothing could change that.
"... I know about the girl, Tod." Zizi informed the robot. "And I know about the debt." She struggled to say the next words. "We may not have started off on the right foot, but... I thought we became friends after a while. Tell me," She took a sharp inhale. "That day you offered to help me bake cookies... were you just manipulating me like any other 'meatbag' so Zannah could stab me in the back?"
"Reflection: The Emperor instructed me to watch over you, yes. But it was I who wanted to take the time to get closer with you. Her order was very open ended Zizi. The Emperor and I knew that you'd never have agreed to the process. That you couldn't share Khali. Baking with you was a wonderful beginning to what I believe was your start for a friendship. However, I never expected to have doubts. I knew if you ever discovered the truth, you would not be able to accept it. And I dreaded to think on how you would view our relationship after due to me being told to keep you in the dark. Can you imagine? Me? Having dread? Illogical at surface level, and yet, a reality I must face. Here we are now. I'm sure that the girl told you everything now. Is it so bad though? They aren't treated badly. Every Hasai goes through military training. The new generation of Waku are merely being given extra training. They are still relatively young. They will be able to make other careers for themselves in the Empire if they so choose. Zannah did it for the greater good of the tribes and the Empire. Although, I can predict this hardly matters to you. Manipulation and being stabbed in the back were your choice of words was it not? I'm sure you feel this was merely a betrayal. I wonder how you look at me now. I wonder how you look at Kahli. Hurt no doubt. But can't you see logic was put forward? I'd gladly cook cookies with you again, yet I fear a 1 in 14,000 chance of that ever occurring again. Ah, I've spoken far too long. Kahli. You won't kill yourself, and I have my orders to bring the girl. Can you give me a logical explanation to not take her?"
"... so that's it. That's all it ever was. Boiling down to orders and commands and keeping secrets." Zizi was quiet for a moment before saying. "Friends don't treat friends like this, Tod. Orders or not. I don't know really what you feel or if you can even feel guilty. Dread? Sure, you felt that before when you had to fight a formidable foe. I remember, I was there when you fought Malik." She swallowed thickly, "Do you think I would have ever done this to Zannah? Or even to you, be it possible? ... then again, if Zannah never considered me a friend in the first place, just another pawn to be moved on her game board, I suppose my logic doesn't apply." The Zemlja was trying to keep tears from running down her face. "Everything was perfect. I was happy, my family was happy... and then this happened. And I... I can't begin to tell you how much I wanted to just... just scream. I wanted Kahli to hurt like I hurt. I lashed out at him, and I shouldn't have. I should have just kept my emotions in check, but I can't do that, Tod. I'm not... I'm not like Zannah. I'm not like you. I can't sacrifice one person for the whole. I want everyone to be okay and to be safe, and feel loved." Zizi then stated firmly. "And Grievous doesn't deserve at all to be treated like a tool. She's her own person. She deserves her own life. If she doesn't want to fight, if she doesn't want to go back, if she doesn't want to leave here, then she shouldn't have to. She's with family now, Tod. It doesn't matter that I'm not her mother, she's still mine in a way. I will protect her, she's innocent in all this. All she wanted was some answers. Does she deserved to be punished for that? She's a child." She asked the robot, trying to appeal to his sense of loyalty and regret. "Would you want me to drag you away from your family?"
Kahli stared at his wife, unable to find the words. All he had fill him was shame.
T0-D paused, raising a hand to his 'chin' to think. "Answer: The girl has a biological mother she lives with. She has hundreds of half siblings she knows at the academy. In more years, her training will be complete. What makes you so much more special? We all have a part to play Zizi. It is selfish to put yourself above the greater whole. Countries and Empires wouldn't be able to function if everyone was so selfish. You aren't her family. We'd be returning her to her real home. So, it is indeed different then if you were to try and take me away from my own family." His claw pointed towards Kahli. "Query: He is the father, but you are not the mother. This girl is not your responsibility. And my dread is a form of guilt I suppose. To have a friend has been eventful, joyful to certain receptors. It's nice to access my memory of these more joyful times. Now, I still see no reason to not follow my orders. Zannah holds her trust in subjects and in family. To her, friends cannot be a part of her life. Family she can pour her love into and know it is a bond only death can separate. Subjects, she has a loyalty to nurture her people and them in return give undying loyalty and respect. I do regret your pain Zizi Slatki. Zannah does to. But she did what she did for the greater good. I believe in her goals to bring prosperity to every subject of hers. As her family, and as her oldest subject, I have a duty to fulfil."
Kahli squeezed his wife’s hand. "Don't take the girl. I believe Zannah would find me to be a higher priority."
"Doubt: Why is that?"
"The life debt has lost its secrecy. It's chains around me are so much lighter. I believe that she'd want to speak to me to try and correct that, would she not?"
T0-D was still, calculating multiple possibilities to carry out next.
"I'm human, Tod. Humans are selfish, and my love is selfish, but in a good way. I don't care the Grivy isn't mine, she still showed up on my doorstep asking for help. That makes her my responsibility, even if Kahli doesn't want to acknowledge her." Zizi told the robot, literally shaking from grief and sorrow. "A good leader wouldn't try to hurt one of her subjects in this way. A good leader would consider what others want. A good leader would forget her stupid quest for power and conquest, and focus on her family and try to make friends with those who cared about her. Zannah is no leader... she is simply a manipulator." She asked him. "If Zannah doesn't want my friendship in her life, then she doesn't regret a single thing she's done. By the spirits, I was right about her this entire time, but I didn't want to see it. I wanted to believe Kahli about her, I wanted to believe you about her, but it's all dragon-shit. All Zannah cares about is power. That's the way it has always been." The Zemlja couldn't stop the tears now. "I doubt Zannah even cares about you, Tod. When has she ever asked what you want? I tried to amend my behavior towards you, I tried to treat you well, and you..." She choked on her words with a sob. "You tricked me. Zannah used Kahli. She threatened to take away my babies to get what she wanted. I tried so hard... so damn hard to believe in the better good of others, but it has done nothing but brought me pain and misery. Are you really going to make me lose faith in you too?"
"Reflection: I'm sure my soul is impure in your eyes. What I want is the betterment of the Empire I call home. The largest sacrifices require the strongest wills. And Zannah has steeled her will to take on any challenge. A good leader will sacrifice additional comforts to give her subjects all the essentials of living. A good leader uses her power for the betterment of those people. Zannah broke her friendships for the sake of bettering her people. She cared so deeply for her people that she made the heartbreaking choice to sacrifice her friendship with you. I calculate, given her condition, she might step down from her current position and elevate herself for the betterment of her people. I did trick you. I won't lie to you Zizi Slatki. Because I believed in her cause. Even if I didn't like the thought of seeing you hurt."
Kahli hugged his wife tightly, resting his head over her shoulder. With a kiss, he whispered into her ear. "Let me go. You can watch over Grievous while I find a way out of this debt."
So that was it... Tod admitted it. Both of them, Zannah and her robot, intentionally hurt her.
... what did she do to deserve this? What did her husband do? Her family?
"I don't want you to go." Zizi sobbed, holding onto Kahli tightly. "I want you to stay here. I want things to go back to how they were."
"I can try to make things right. You have to give me that chance. Please, I beg of you Zizi."
"Statement: I am honestly sorry to see I hurt you Zizi. Kahli, do you consent to seeing the Emperor?"
The Waku looked over his shoulder, hurt and angry. "Only if you call off your hunt for my daughter."
"Don't go, I don't want her to hurt you. I've already hurt you and I shouldn't have, and I don't want to lose you, I don't care if all your other kids show up on our doorsteps, please don't leave me. If Zannah takes you away, I'll be lost." Zizi begged her husband. "No, you're not." Zizi took a shaky breath. "You just told me, Tod. You believed in Zannah. You didn't believe in me."
"Additional Statement: Those two things aren't mutually exclusive in my eye. I see now, however, it would be illogical to try and change your mind. Goodbye Zizi Slatki."
Kahli gave his wife a peck on the cheek, rising away from her. "I won't let her. You have my love on that."
"You promise?" Zizi looked so... so defeated. So heartbroken. So sad. "I can't... trust her anymore."
"I promise to you. I promise on my unending love for you. She won't take me away from you."
Meanwhile, at the greenhouse, Theron guards finally found their target. On the left and right flank, two cornered Grievous and Urboro. They had crossbows ready to fire with the graze of a finger. "Don't. Move."
Agent Hresvelg entered centre stage, taking off his helmet. Grievous expressed surprise at seeing him. "Teacher?"
The man's purple eyes looked sad and tired to see her. "Why did it have to be you Grievous. You had such promise."
"I wanted freedom my mother wouldn't give me. That the Empire couldn't give me."
"That why you decided to come specifically to Hyrule? To your birth father?"
"I wanted to see him too. Teacher. I'm not going back."
"Grievous. You're one of my most outstanding students. You've shown so much potential, and you want to throw it all away? You could be a great commander if you put your mind to it."
"But that's not the life I want." She planted her feet, grinding her fingers into her palm as she made a fist. "I want to fight my own battles. I want to fly where ever I want. I want a parent who loves me. I want siblings I can actually who aren't so laser focused in following the Empire. I- I want to learn what sex is like after going to bars with my sister. " She unexpectedly gripped Urboro's hand, wanting to feel her support.
Hresvelg frowned, perhaps a little disgusted by her behaviour. "Because of your desertion, the Empire wants you out of sight and out of mind. You might have been able to have been able to have the future you wanted in ten more years with hard work. You were always a serious student. You took your training seriously. You didn’t have time for foolish behaviour. It's why you were given the name Grievous."
"But that's because you all raised me that way. It’s all I knew. That life might be acceptable to the others, but not to me."
The agent drew a flint lock, cocking the gun in the direction of Grievous’ heart. "I have to ask you to come with us. At this range, you can't do your little disappearing act. And I truthfully don't want to hurt you or the girl. I will give you the count to three. 1."
Grievous didn't move, her body spreading out to protect Urboro from fire.
"2."
Just before he got to three, another Theron appeared behind him. "Sir. The mission is being called off by General T0-D."
"What?"
"We are to leave with Sir Kahli back to the Empire to deliver him directly to the Emperor."
"I see..." Hresvelg put his pistol away back into his holster. "Well Grievous. I don't know when I will see you again, but I hope you are serious about your current life choices."
"I am."
Seemingly satisfied, Agent Hresvelg turned to leave. The Theron at the sides disappeared as silently and as quickly as phantoms.
"Wait, they're taking Dad?!" Urboro looked a bit afraid. Her mother always warned her that Zannah could have a horrible temper. If they were taking her father away, what would happen? "Grivy, what's going on?!"
“I don’t know. I really don’t know.” Both the girls picked themselves up and ran to the house. When they arrived, however, all the Hasai were gone. All that remained was a distraught Zizi lying on her knees, with other children gathering with confusion.
Manaco had rushed from work to his parents' house when he heard the rumors of Hasai being present in Hyrule. When he saw his mother on the ground, and no indication of his father's presence, he feared the worst. Either Zannah was going to kill his sire or keep him prisoner... or worse.
"What should we do, Manaco?" Keira asked her elder brother. "They took Dad. That robot was here too. It must be serious if Tod was here."
"I... I don't know what to do." Manaco told his sister honestly. "I think that the only thing we can do is wait."
“Wait? What about the well being of our father? Aren’t you fighters?” Grievous questioned, guilt heavy on her mind. It was becoming clearer to her that he took her place. But why?
"Grivy, there's five of us that are of age. We are all good fighters, and we can defend ourselves, but taking on an army is not within our capabilities." Ahusaka informed his sister with a heavy sigh. "Even we know when to admit we're no match for a battle."
"Unfortunately, he's right." Manaco admitted. "We... we need to take care of Mom for now, and just wait. That's all we can do without endangering the rest of our family."
Grievous’ tail curled low, her feelings on the matter heavy. Turning to Zizi, she barely got the words out with a steady tone. “I’m sorry I came here. I’m sorry they took him away. I’m sorry I broke you two up. Kahli is a good man. He loves his children. He loves you. I shouldn’t have come here if I had known you’d be hurt so deeply.”
"It's not your fault, Grivy." Zizi felt so... hollow. Empty. "You're not responsible for this... Zannah is."
"I'm going to take Mom inside," Manaco told his siblings. "Will all of you try to calm Venu'sa down? She doesn't need to be grabbing a stranger and eating them."
"We can do that." Urboro assured her brother. "Take care of Mom."
"Grivy, we could use your help watching after the younger ones." Miku asked. "Do you mind?"
“Of course. It’s the least I can do. Miss Zizi? You’ll give Father another chance will you not?”
"I will, I just... it's hard to process all of this." Zizi said very softly. "I'm so exhausted..."
"That's okay, Mom. You can rest. We'll take care of everything." Manaco lifted his Mom into his arms, carrying her. He had never seen her so tired before, not even in the hot sun working with plants. He was worried, and it showed. "We'll keep Urboro away from the stove too."
"I heard that, you fu---fudge-head." Urboro had to catch her language in front of her smaller siblings.
Grievous turned to find the little ones. She hoped she knew what her father was doing. In so many ways, today had taken so many losses.

penny!verse. I'm curious how Belle & Gabe walk the line between a teenage boy getting into halloween and Claire being just old enough start to understand the holiday and be scared of some of the movies and things, especially given what B&G have seen because of their jobs. tricks and treats?
Apparently when I said ‘flashfic’ I lied.  Are we shocked?
Takes place about 5 years after Belle returns. Claire is a little over two.
____________
Halloween stores were not Belle’s favorite place.  She’d seen too many skeletons laid out on coroner’s tables to be amused by the styrofoam immiations.  One aisle was entirely fake weapons, from plastic knives painted with fake blood to rubber guns that looked too realistic.  Worst were the costumes that declared ‘serial killer’ and ‘sociopath’ and ‘insane patient’ to be the perfect way to dress up.
Unfortunately she needed a costume for Claire, and didn’t have the time to look more than one place, of the skills to make it herself.  Bay, seeking a costume of his own, had decided to join the trip which meant she couldn’t just stick to the aisle filled with rainbow colored costumes.  Claire settled relatively quickly on a ‘pun-kin’ costume.  Belle wondered if Bay would be as easy to please.
“Hey Belle, you should totally dress up this year.  There’s a ton of stuff here.  Just not, you know, the sexy FBI agent costume because that would be weird.”  Bay didn’t seem to have found a costume yet; the only thing in his hands was a pumpkin carving kit.
“I wish I thought you were joking.”  She had nothing against dressing up.  And certainly she and Gabe had tried their hand at role play more than once, but the general sexualization of women’s costumes upset her.  Sometimes it seemed there wasn’t any other option and she hated the message that it sent.  “We’re only taking Claire to a few homes this year before dinner at David and Mary Margaret’s.  If anyone asks I’ll tell them that I am a FBI agent.  What about you?”
“I haven’t had a chance to talk to Gabe yet, but I think I’m missing dinner this year.  There’s this party, one of the guys in my chem class is throwing it.  I can’t decide, is Dracula too overdone or is it classic?”  He looked at his hands; Belle hadn’t noticed the fake blood container on top of the carving kit.
“Classic,” Belle decided.  It certainly was better than a lot of other options he could have come up with, and she knew that he had almost everything he’d need at home.  They just needed to find fangs and a cloak.  When she thought too much about the party, though, the hairs at the back of her neck stuck up.  He was nineteen, in college now but mercifully had decided he wanted to live at home.  He needed, even more than other kids his age, to feel like he belonged.  In high school it had been common knowledge that he hadn’t grown up the same, that school was new to him.  He was small for his age thanks to poor nutrition.  It had taken time, Gabe had told her, for him to settle in and begin to make friends.  Now as a college freshman he had a fresh start in many ways.
She knew what could happen at parties.  Knew that kids on their own for the first time would be testing their limits.  And Halloween always seemed to make it worse, the anonymity of masks and costumes allowed people to do things they wouldn’t usually consider.  She had to bite her tongue to keep from telling him it was a bad idea.  She would have to talk to Gabe and figure out how they prepared their boy as well as they could.
Every year since she’d moved back they’d all had dinner at the Nolan’s - the first time she’s almost hadn’t gone, but Emma had talked her into coming and Archie had gone home with her; they’d watched Christmas movies for hours declaring it the start of the holiday season.  The next year she and Gabe had been together, and had come with Bay and gone back to the pink house.  Three years ago she had only just learned she was pregnant.; the next year there had been four of them.  Last year she’d dressed Claire up as a dragon and Neal Nolan had been a knight.  Emma, Graham, Ariel, and Archie had all joined her, Gabe, Mary Margaret and David was they’d taken the two around the neighborhood.  Henry and Bay had spent most of the night playing video games.  Perhaps she should have known then that the tradition was changing, but she would miss it.
“Awesome.  Give me five minutes to grab a couple of things and I’ll be ready to go.”  True to his word Bay was back in four with a red lined black cloak and an uncomfortable looking set of plastic teeth.  He also had a gold plastic necklace with a large medallion that was supposed to look gothic.  Perhaps she would at least be able to sneak in some education on the historical and literary character of Dracula. She paid for their purchases even though Bay offered to cover his own, and was relieved when they were headed home.
II
“Would you like paints too, sweetheart?  It might be safer for you.”  Belle teasingly moved the carving knives closer to Bay and offered her husband a paintbrush.  Claire, covered in an old shirt of her brother’s, had a paper plate covered in easy wash paints in front of her and a pumpkin waiting to be decorated.  Bay was already sketching out a monster’s face on his pumpkin, while Belle’s plan was for something more traditional.
“I haven’t had a kitchen accident in ages, thank you very much.”  Gabe accepted the brush, though, thinking it might come in handy.  It had potential for tickling a certain brunette on the back of her neck, for starters.  And perhaps other places as well, when his kids weren’t around.  He jumped into his own carving without a plan or sketch.  Everything was quiet for a few minutes before Claire started crying.
“Sweetheart?”  Her hands were covered with paint, and somehow her left cheek as well, but he didn’t hesitate before pulling her onto his lap.  He was closer than Belle.  “Can you tell papa what you’re feeling?”
“Hurt,” she sobbed between her tears.
“Where does it hurt, my love?”  He couldn’t see anything but maybe the paint was hiding it.  Or maybe it wasn’t something that could be seen; she’d had the flu a few months ago and had thrown up enough that they’d had to take her to the emergency room for an IV.
“Pun-kin hurt.”  She pointed to his pumpkin, the top cut off and some of the seeds removed.  “Bandaid?”
“Oh dear,” Belle spoke from across the table.  “I hope this doesn’t mean I picked the wrong costume.”
“It’s okay, peanut, the pumpkin likes it.”  Often times anything Bay said was okay was taken as law by Claire, but today she wasn’t having any of it.  She only cried harder.
“Hurted.  Pun-kin owey.  Fix, papa.”  She looked up at him and if he wasn’t convinced by the tears he was when she touched his cheek.  “Peese?”
“Mama will go get some bandaids while we wash our hands, princess.  We have some surgery to prepare for.”
II
“It’s just me, Claire.  Your brother.  See?”  The scary man crouched low, holding out his hands so he could take her away.  He’d already taken her Bay and was in his room, his face the wrong color, like the same as her milk, and blood on his mouth.  She wanted her Bay.
“It’s a costume, kiddo.  I’m just getting ready for a party.”  When he came closer Claire wanted to run but maybe Bay was hurted.  Claire did the only thing she could think of, she kicked as hard as she could and ran to find her papa.  He would make the scary thing go away and find her Bay.
II
It was after two when he pulled into the garage, his cloak in a heap in the passenger seat and the ridiculous fangs in some trash can.  When he looked in the rearview mirror he could still see streaks of white from the makeup he’d mostly washed off.  Unfortunately he could see some blood on his lip, and not the fake kind.  Hopefully it would look better in the morning, before he had to sit across the breakfast table from his family.
When he opened the garage door he found that there were still a few lights on.  Normally catching Gabe and Belle kissing on the couch made him feel both good, because of how much they loved each other, and weird because who wanted to see their parents doing that?  Tonight, though, he just hoped they were distracting each other enough that he could get to the stairs before letting them know that he was home..
He should have known better.  FBI agents, even when one was retired, were not people you snuck away from.
“Aren’t you going to say goodnight?  Or perhaps good morning?”  He couldn’t ignore Gabe, and took a deep breath.
“You didn’t have to wait up for me.  I would have let you know I was home.”  He knew they worried, and understood it.  Appreciated it, even.  Before meeting Gabe he hadn’t known anyone could care about him.
“It’s not that we don’t trust you, Bay, we just…”  Belle stopped, and got off the sofa.  “What happened to your lip?”
“It doesn’t hurt.”  Or it least it didn’t until Belle touched it, no matter how soft her touch was.  “It was a good party.  Most of it.  There was just this one guy.”
“Someone you liked?”  Gabe asked, frowning.
“Hell no.”  It hadn’t been that long ago that he’d told Gabe how he felt about guys.  Had said the word ‘gay’ outloud.  Gabe had told him it was the person that mattered, not their gender.  He’d also gone into embarrassing detail about what it meant to be safe and protected.  There had been a guy at the party and there might have been some fumbling in a literal closet, but he wasn’t about to talk about that.  “Someone who liked a girl that didn’t like him back.  He didn’t accept the word no.”
“Bastard.”  Gabe’s expression could only be described as a snarl.  Belle touched his arm and gave it a squeeze.
“Is she alright?”  Belle asked.
“Yeah.  I gave her a ride back to her dorm.  Dom was too busy holding his nose to notice where we went.”  He wasn’t ashamed at the pride he felt in what might have been a broken nose.
“I’m glad she’s safe.  And you are too.”  Belle kissed his cheek.  “Now let’s go get some ice for that.”
II
“It’s too much to hope that the experience has soured him on parties, isn’t it?”  Thirty minutes later Bay had gone to bed, Claire had been checked on and was still sleeping in her costume, and he and Belle were finally getting ready for bed.  “It was easier when he was still in high school.”
“He’s smart and he’s kind, and he’s not alone.  That matters, sweetheart.”  Belle spoke from the bathroom.
“At least Halloween is over for the year.”  He stripped out of his clothing and slipped under the blankets.
“Not until the sun rises.”  When Belle came out of the bathroom she wore a witches hat and a black lace nightie covered in bats.  And nothing else.  “Not everything about Halloween is bad.”
He had to agree.

Dan Watches: Star Wars: Episode I -The Phantom Menace
So.. I got the idea of writing my thoughts up as I go basically as they get to the Gungan city so.. i’ll try and remember my thoughts before that and then I’ll do it kinda live. Under the cut cus long.
Alright.. So the opening crawl was very.. politics which to be honest as i’ve got older I actually kind of enjoy that side of Star Wars but it doesn’t really add anyhting to the actual film because I think everything thats in it could be picked up by just watching the film.
I kinda like the battle droids.. weird soft spot for them. I like the big ship ones too and Droidekas i thought were the coolest shit ever when i was a kid and i stand by that.
I’m not all that bothered by the racial stereotypes because like.. i’m not the races they’re sterotyping but i can see why it’d be problematic.
Jar Jar isn’t as annoying as everyone makes him out to be.. don’t get me wrong.. he’s annoying.. but he’s not cancer.
Aesthetically the Gungan City is pretty cool, giant underwater bubble city.. i bet there’s cool fan art of it somewhere.
Alright now we’re live.. The duck things the Gungans ride are weird.
Do Gungans like JarJar eventually become the giant Green guy? .. I googled apparently they’re just two different races of Gungan despite looking like totally different Aliens.
It’s nice that all races are like “Life debt? Oh yeah thats a legit thing.”
Gungans speak like English or Common or.. i forget the Star Wars term.. Basic? is their second language.. but it isnt.
Yooo Qui Gon just made JarJar go to sleep using the force.. Why is Force Sleep not a thing in more stuff... gotta keep an eye out for that now.
Naboo is pretty.
Padme is so extra, she’s in her iconic red dress that’s already extra as fuck and then sees that she’s been captured and is like “Alright.. but first.. wardrobe change!” and then shows up in some black number. I’m not sure if at this point she’s actually Padme or if Padme is pretending to be one of her servants now but either way she had a costume change and nobody questions it so she must be having costume changes all the time.
When Qui Gon force pushes two battle droids theres a really weird sound effect that sounds like it belongs in a mario game.
Pretty sure Padme is the handmaid now and this new Queen should take the opportunity to be like “Yoo peace out bitches.” Then we get Keira Knightley’s adventures in Star Wars.
Also who was she before this swaparoo? Was she a handmaid and just suddenly got promoted to queen? Like she could be saying all sorts of shit. I know she gets revealed later on but think of how much she could do whilst Padme is away.
The first words ever spoken to R2 in Star Wars, chronologically, (although inderectly) are “Hello Boyos”. Just sit with that.
The first words spoken to him directly are “How rude.” which seems about right tbf with how sassy he is.
Darth Maul is awesome.
Keira Knightly or Sabe (I looked it up) is like “Yo actual queen, clean that droid!” i think she just wanted to feel more powerful than the actual queen there, little power trip.
Nice Poncho Qui Gon. Cal approves.
I wonder how long Padme took to convince the others to let her go off alone with Qui Gon and Jar Jar and R2 (Dunno why R2 joins them?) on a planet thats ruled by the Hutts
I kinda like Watto.. not as a person.. he just amuses me.
Kinda cool that Anakin can speak Huttese, wish he spoke it more often.. just cursing in Huttese as Obi Wan tries to teach him stuff.
“Are you an Angel.” Smooooth kid. Smoooth, you’re gonna get with her. Despite her being way older than you. They couldn’t have just made him the same age as her?
Toydarians should be used for more things, especially involving force users.
Anakin. The slave. Is like “Here Qui Gon, you’ll like this food.” and he’s just like “Cheers” and pockets it for later. Dude. Try it.
I really hope they do go into more High Republic stuff next, give me a Destiny-type game where you play as a Jedi with your mates.
Quigons like “You must have Jedi reflexes to race pods” Then he catches Jar Jars tongue in a blink of an eye and Anakins like “You’re a Jedi Knight aren’t you?” And Qui-Gon is like “What makes you think that?” ...? .. You just fucking.. God damn it Qui-Gon.
Anakin: “No one can kill a Jedi”. Palpatine: “Hold my Blue milk.”
I feel like im becoming fluent in Gungan broken basic which is worrying.
Anakins mom whos name i’ve literally just forgot is like “He was meant to help you.” ... bitch.. what? Why does nobody question that?
WHY DOES JAR JARS MOUTH MOVE WITH OTHER PEOPLES LINES!? ... Darth Jar Jar.  #PlagueisTheWiseWasAGungan. I mean not rly but seriously.. that would have been a really cool plot twist.
Jar Jar got numbed and got his hand stuck.. so like.. perhaps not.. otherwise you’re playing a little too dumb mate.
The look of worry from Shmi, good stuff.
The two Headed announcer speaking basic and Huttese is pretty smart like, the one doing one and the other doing the other.
What the fuck is Clegg Holdfast?
What the fuck are any of these races? Like.. where are these races throughout the rest of the franchise?
Crazy that lightly bending that one part of the podracer can fuck it up so bad.
Who the fuck is that other Hutt? Oh yeah I’m watching the like updated version with Geroge Lucas’ “Fixes” in it. Probably should have said that earlier.
I cant remember if this is true but I’m pretty sure Qui-Gon knows Padme is the Queen and is just fucking with her at this point.
Man Pod Racing is cool, fuck whoever says it isnt.
Gimmie an updated Pod Racing ps4 game.
What the fuck is that long thin alien thats selling food to the crowd? Gimmie a Jedi version of him.
Havent commented in a while because i just kept watching it tbh.
Coruscant looks cool. Still want more High Republic stuff.
What the fuck is that driver alien, he looks in pain to exist.
“There is no civility, there is only politics” The Chancellor code.
Is it too late to call a vote of no confidence on Palpatine?
I see you there in the background Yaddle. Get it girl.
Fuck me the added extra of this long neck ass Jedi Master is so distracting.
Where Jaro Tapal at tho?
You’d think after Padme’s like “Surprise bitch it’s me” moment coming up the Jedi would be like “Well shit.. maybe we’re less aware of things than we think... Yoda.. are you just a short human painted green?”
Amedala... So extra with these outfits. I get that she’s a Queen but Jesus.
Eyyyyyyyyyyyy it’s ET.
Qui-Gon is such a bad boy.
I kinda get why Jedi take kids when they’re really young, so they can’t remember their parents so they aren’t constantly worried about their parents and then fall to the dark side... doesn’t make it any nicer though.
My vote went to Bail Antilles.
To be fair not training Anakin could have been very bad. He could have like gone even more Darkside and Palpatine could swooped in and trained him himself completely.
Maul is barely in this but fuck is he still cool.
You know what I don’t hate Midichlorians. They’re just like atoms that stick to certain people and thats what gives them access to the force, it doens’t really change anything it’s just a scientific explination.
You know what.. During the middle of the film, Jar Jar keeps his mouth shut and just lets people get on with it, that’s alright.
How old is Obiwan supposed to be in this film?
A little more variation in these creepy ass gungans would be nice.
Damn the Viceroy and the other guy are huge or Maul is smol.
Love that Gungan dindgeridoo horn thing.
I also love the giant bubble shields.
Are they watching a Star Wars battle tactics pc game on that screen?
Fuck The Darth Maul fight is badass.
I don’t buy Anakin at all, he wants to fly out there and get involved, the little shit.
Quigon doesnt even flip when he jumps, he’s just like “I’m too old for this shit.”
Yeah R2 is like “Go back” and Anakins like “Naaa fuck that”... Tut tut. Boys gonna be trouble.
The way Maul stalks back and forth the other side of that barrier like a Sith Tiger.. Good shit.
Aaaaand Quigon is dead. RIP.
“Now This is Pod Racing.”.. It’s not though is it?
Nice to have something blow up and actually have debris instead of just all being gone completely.
Anddd there goes Maul to go get robot spider legs and then be found by his bro Savage.
Why do you wanna bring balance to the force anyway if it’s currently so one sided favouring the light side? Surely bringing balance is a bad thing at that point.
Yoda’s already soooo old.
Alright so they know there’s a Sith out there and the guy is still just like right next to them and they don’t know. Tut.
That Jedi behind Mace Windu at the end looks intimidating as shit.
Padme, he’s a kid, calm yourself down woman. You predator.
Alright.. Film done. 10/10 Best movie ever. Naa tbh I enjoy the prequels more than most, obviously if you’ve stuck with me this long you know that but it clearly has its flaws.. still.. I enjoyed it! Feel free to ask me my opinions on specific things if you want.  Also shamelessly gonna plug my two star wars muses Cal and Savage here, rp with me you cowards. Also I’m down to star wars verse any of my other characters, literally any of them, i have ideas for all.

In your recent post about the hypothetical Sincline ships, you mentioned certain roles(Mediator, Herald, Mystic, etc.) that each ship's paladin fulfills. Could you maybe elaborate a bit more on each of these? The concept of a sort of "Alt Five Archetypes" so to speak intrigues me.
I mean, they’re not so much an alternate five archetypes as much as, I like the idea that Black and White, for example, would have the same archetype- they’re the head and they would both align with the concept of the Paragon, but, they would call to different things, to the point that they’re not quite interchangeable. So Lotor could work with the Black Lion, and probably better than with any other Voltron Lion- Shiro could work with White Lion, and probably better than with any other Sincline Lion- but Black and White are not the same, they call for different things.
Black, is in many ways, a champion in the light, obstinate in the face of any who would subjugate or ask them to hide themselves. You can see this in both Shiro and in Zarkon- these are people that when the world tells them to move they dig their heels in and say “no.” They assert their strength of will and their personal power by doubling down on resolve- any time the going gets tough they get more stubborn. It’s a very direct sense of values.
And that’s not to say Lotor never challenges people, never confronts- if anything, we see that even outside of structured theses where he absolutely dismantles someone else’s morals, Lotor can and will often take passing shots of judgment at people he dislikes, such as while convincing Zarkon he’s not up to anything in s4e3, Lotor subtly digs at how obviously Zarkon is neglecting him.
But it’s what Shiro and Lotor did to survive that differentiates them.
Shiro was the person who buckled down and held onto his ideals in a setting that was doing everything it possibly could to strip him of himself, to make him a tool of the empire- when his name was ignored he, in effect, made a new one for himself, and kept pushing, kept fighting. When Shiro the Astronaut was taken into the empire, Shiro the Champion forged himself as something that they wouldn’t tame.
In a way, Lotor also kept his sense of self alive under incredible pressure. However, that doesn’t become a name spoken at a reverent roar, and the one time it does seem to gain acclaim in s3e1, Lotor calmly suggests that means nothing- their acknowledgement is shallow and will easily go.
Where Shiro is in a way, the visionary in the light- someone who lacks a certain amount of artifice- Lotor is the conspirator in the dark. It doesn’t matter if a thousand people don’t hear him- if anything, that’s how he prefers it. He shows the sides of himself that need to be seen in that moment, and Lotor at his most sincere is Lotor in private, with only the people he wants in his inner circle.
So this made me imagine White as, in some ways, an illusionist. Drawing strength from charisma, manipulating attention, focus, what happens where your enemies can see you and what happens in the dark. Light, but light as blinding, bewitching, misdirecting.
And in another sense, White still embodying the Head, the Leader- again, in the sense that if you look where Lotor shines at his most earnest and authentic it’s when he is alone in company he completely trusts. Just like a Black Paladin, we see that Lotor’s downfall is isolation, that in some ways he seems the strongest of the team and in others he is the most dependent on the limbs to support and guide him.
From there, that creates an obvious interesting relationship with Cyan as the Right Hand. The Black Lion doesn’t really need anyone to announce it in the slightest so Red if anything takes kind of a deferential position as we see through Keith and through Alfor- Red in a way hangs back and supports Black, to rush in during their time of need.
But if we characterize White as an entity who in some ways obscures their own brilliance, it creates an interesting since that Cyan is the one who brings White into the light, that illuminates the importance of her beloved leader. Both to others- (s3e2, “You dare speak to Prince Lotor?”) and to that leader themselves, when the White Paladin might be lost to the darkness they survive in- this isn’t who you are.
In that sense, Pink becomes the counterpart, the left hand, who expresses their loyalty not by pulling White out of the darkness as-needed, but, as the one who accompanies White through the darkness. Speaking technically, while this is because of Narti’s somewhat rude dismissal from the plot, Narti is the one paladin we never see turn on Lotor in any way. As Ezor says, she trusts him.
And that implies that in some ways, while Acxa obviously takes a sense of importance and relevance from following Lotor, and in s7 seems to describe herself as lost without him (that she had to separate from her other Sincline pilots to find her own path again)...
Narti expresses that same sense of loyalty, of being a Hand, by shadowing Lotor closely. She’s literally the person he calls on to watch his back when he’s summoned for a direct confrontation by Zarkon.
(which further plays into the ideas I have about the White Paladin- Lotor doesn’t hate confrontations, but overwhelmingly Lotor reacts to someone else’s confrontation- in s3e1, Throk was planning something and Lotor merely baited it into the open, in s3e3 Keith chases Lotor first, and Lotor cheerfully demurs keeping up the attack because it’s not the “day of our choosing”. In s5e2, both Black Paladins in a way are open about this confrontation- Zarkon orchestrates it, and Shiro arms Lotor. But the entire time leading up to the fight, Lotor is stonefaced, almost seeming resigned, and that’s how he remains afterwards- he doesn’t relish confronting Zarkon directly, merely acknowledges it as something that needed to be done.)
With Orange and Blue, since the nature of the Blue Lion is mutability and versatility, I would imagine Orange and Blue are the closest to each other. Roughly, I think what differentiates both of the Sincline Legs from Voltron is the sense that Sincline’s legs are more aggressive.
Ezor, the emotional side of the protection is the one who speaks frankly and calculatingly about the future of the team, and it is a very, very grim summation for Sincline indeed when Ezor actually says she’s given up trying to understand Lotor, when in s3, them happy and together, we see that Ezor makes a lot of effort to keep up with what Lotor is thinking.
I imagine in a healthier scenario, with Sincline moving towards apotheosis as a team rather than falling apart, Ezor would be the one most likely to confront and challenge Lotor when he’s withdrawing away from the team, for the same reasons she was the one to first consider pulling away from him after Narti’s death- because she can look frankly at the psychological climate and go “we’re not gonna survive like this.”
The biggest difference between Ezor and Lance- and by connection, Orange Lion and Blue Lion- is that we see Ezor ply her emotional savvy aggressively. Probably the clearest example is in s7- she easily skims the paladins, notice who’s in the most protected position, Pidge, and who as soon as she looks at Pidge, the other paladins start giving her death glares- and she knows immediately that threatening Pidge is going to get her the most leverage the fastest. In s3e2 she does similar things with the Puigian leader, taunting him and baiting him into getting sloppy.
And that makes sense. The Legs are those concerned with protecting the team, with seeing their allies as a mouth to feed, an injury to bandage, needs that call for redress.
Tumblr media
And the biggest difference between Sincline and Voltron is Voltron is a proud champion of the light, a knightly figure of a bygone age, born during peace and a harbinger of hope. Powerful, shielded, closely entwined with this sense of honor, and overwhelmingly, carrying a tower shield and a shining sword.
Tumblr media
Sincline is a bandit, not because of a lack of values- because again, I imagine each piece of Sincline embodies much the same values as its corresponding piece of Voltron- but because if you have been starving for years, honor won’t feed you. Sincline did not streak across the sky and deliver itself as a shining beacon of potential to a court of lords. It was born during wartime, it panicked and hid itself; it waited centuries, powerless in the darkness, nestled in a trap it had created to keep itself safe and tear apart any unworthy that might approach it.
There’s a reason Sincline resonates with Lotor and the generals. It’s because they themselves, are fearful, cornered people. They’re not spineless or morally deficient compared to Voltron- but it’s easy to be a knight in shining armor when you have the money to afford the suit and a polishing kit. It’s easy to say that you want to not merely save people, but do so as a moral inspiration, when you have the luxury of not having to choose between the two.
So much of Lotor’s argument with Voltron at the end of s6 basically boils down to “you don’t understand because you were safe. You were safe, and comfortable, because you had people who loved you and hid you from the fire and the wolves at the door. I did what I did because while you were safe, I was out here, with the cold and the beasts, and I did what I had to because I needed to eat.”
So there’s a vein of not ruthlessness or depravity to Sincline, but of desperation. In peace and in plenty, Sincline is just as honorable as Voltron. But it doesn’t forget famine, because it can’t forget them- because it remembers that, and because that echoes in the heart of its chosen paladins. They remember what it feels like to starve, and that memory starts to gnaw on them when food runs low.
Tumblr media
And in some ways, that would resonate most in the leg pilots- in Orange who is very versed in fear, in uncertainty, in “can we make it? Can we keep going like this? Should we be hoping in the future or should we be making sure we have somewhere to run to?”-
And in Indigo, counterpart of Yellow, the team’s shield, who knows that while she might stock heavily in armor and strength, that she’s going to need to stay there and keep holding that defensive line even well past the point that it will hurt her. Hence why Yellow Lion is the Guardian, but Indigo Lion is the Martyr- not that she lacks the resolve to live in any sense, but in a way, Sincline is shaped by the sense that you can’t guarantee everyone will make it, and if you want to try, the best thing to do is to make a decision that if only four people can go home, you won’t waste time deciding before you push your friends to safety.
Though, that sense of Sincline as born out of want, out of necessity, out of fear would ring through all of them- it’s the significance of Cyan’s focus on Honor specifically because as the counterpart to Red, the visionary, Cyan is the one who looks towards that image of gleaming heroes in armor and says “we could get there, I believe in you. You’re worthy of those honors, too. I won’t let anyone forget it.”
It’s the significance of how Pink expresses her curiosity, her focus on knowledge and information- nobody, nobody sneaks up on Sincline on Pink’s watch. Which is, incidentally, the exact reason why in my original post I gave Pink the power to sense and disable cloaked targets- not only does it set her up as a nice rival to Green that way, but it enforces the idea that in canon, the beginning of Sincline’s end was losing Narti- because she’s the team’s vanguard, and from that point on, they had to operate blind.
Tumblr media
And it’s the significance of White as a leader who, no matter how charismatic and clever, is not really comfortable being seen as themselves. While it was so brief, I really think it means a lot that in s6 we see that Lotor in an actual comfortable equal-footing environment with the paladins rapidly turns a bit sheepish and cautious- because Lotor’s most comfortable being seen when it’s an image he’s projecting, and it is a very rare currency of absolute trust when he actually lets his shields down, and he wasn’t quite there with many of the paladins yet.
While it’s funny to see Lotor blushing a little at Lance’s enthusiastic clowning, it comes back to the unfunny root that this is because, for most of his life, Lotor has not felt safe being who he is. He has to know he can trust people before he shows his hand. And that tying thematically into how I imagine the White Lion, as a counterpart to Black with that heavy focus on Identity and Self- but White is the concealed, protected Self that refracts itself through mirrors to become power.

[ I N F E R N A  . . . ]
Tumblr media
Real Name: Victoria Chang (goes by “Vicky”)
Age: 22
FC: Hoyeon Jung
Species & Class: Fire-Mage, Rogue
Guild: Obsidian
“Middle finger up, F you pay me”  —Blackpink, Boombayah
Description of In-Game Powers: Inferna (Vicky) can generate and manipulate fire. She should theoretically be able to put it out, too, and control it in a more precise way, but so far, no luck. Over-using this ability results in dizziness and fatigue.
In addition, Inferna has a natural affinity for fire-related ability scrolls, potions, and items. She is invulnerable to fire, though water and being underwater in general gives her up to -2 in defense.
Place of Birth: The suburbs surrounding Baltimore, USA
Appearance: Although Inferna’s natural hair color is black (technically, dark brown), she had it dyed red when she first got to college. In-game, she changes her hair color very often, utilizing a bunch of H-rank potions that are only there for cosmetic effects. She also gives herself a bunch of face tattoos in-game, just because she can. Currently, she has some of the lyrics from Blackpink’s DDU-DU DDU-DU tattooed around the area of her left eye, like so.
“I just think that it’s kind of lame that there isn’t even a Starbucks out here. I mean, all this fancy mead is fine and all, but sometimes I just really want a frap, you feel me?”
Places Most Likely to be Found In-Game: Inferna adores the Level 7 Tearoom. She’s always been keen on spilling the tea, both literally and metaphorically (plus the sweet treats don’t hurt!).
Inferna’s also a pretty regular sight in Yue City, trying to market her Inferna Sauce and Inferna Sriracha to beginner players.
Current Inventory:
Flaming daggers x4
Regular daggers x2
Pocketknife x1
Silver dust x5
Dispelling amulet x1
Crossbow x1
Ignitium potion x2
Lock picking set x1
Ictuium potion x7
Black pearls x3
Blue pearls x3
“Inferna Sauce” (AKA hot sauce that tastes like Lao Gan Ma/chili sauce that she made using in-game ingredients to spice up the bland-ass white people food available in the marketplaces) x10
“Inferna’s Sriracha” (same deal ^^^) x14
Shortsword x1
Murmurationium x1
Assorted sweet treats from the Tearoom x22
+ assorted foodstuffs/drinks, and more coins than anyone would ever need because she’s such a goddamn hoarder
Strongest Character Trait: Flippant
“Leak college textbook pdf files, not nudes. Jeez.”
Strengths: Inferna’s a total boss at League of Legends (she was Diamond before she decided to check out Gem Quest), meaning that she’s pretty familiar with a lot of the game mechanics that GQ was founded on; in-game, she’s very good at appearing out of nowhere and then fucking off with whatever she decided that she wanted to steal; despite the fact that she thinks computer science is boring as all hell, she’s not bad at it - she hasn’t failed so far, which is a sign that she must be doing something right; somehow passing 3 years of CS courses means that Inferna’s pretty well-versed in a variety of programming languages (Python, Java, Haskell, Ruby, C++, etc); has a very good memory, despite her general flightiness; her in-game character is very speedy, if not always very stealthy; quick reflexes and good hand-eye coordination (Inferna would like to thank her eleven-odd years of playing League); a natural curiosity about the game has led to Inferna exploring all the little nooks and crannies of every level she’s been to so far, so she knows about many little secret passageways and the like
Weaknesses: In real life, Inferna’s primary motivations are 1) food, and 2) being petty, and this is definitely true in-game as well - the primary difference being that in real life, Inferna does not have the ability to whip out flaming daggers whenever she wants to; in general, Inferna is ready to throw hands way too often for it to be healthy; very reckless and impulsive; tends to jump to conclusions and rush into things without thinking it through; fickle as actual fuck; flighty and easily distracted; probably more fixated on trying all the pastries in the Tearoom than actually clearing the game; stubborn, headstrong, and bullheaded when she focuses on something long enough to decide that she wants it, no matter what - Inferna has a very ‘my way or the highway’ attitude; can and will pack so many meme and vine references into one sentence that it’s practically incomprehensible; what is self-control?; is avoiding all her responsibilities 24/7
Player Stats: Inferna’s got pretty high strength stats for her class, mostly because she decided to spec into fire-mage abilities (”Honestly, I just wanted to be like Uncle Iroh from ATLA and breathe flames from my mouth”), but her cautiousness is abnormally low for a rogue.
STRENGTH: 8
DEFENCE: 7
CHARISMA: 6
PSYCHE: 5
WILLPOWER: 7
CAUTIOUSNESS: 3
AGILITY: 9
ENDURANCE: 7
INTELLIGENCE: 6
LUCK: 5
Inferna’s general personality is better suited to being a Knight or a Rider, but on the intro screen she read that Rogues tended to get easy money, so she was immediately sold.
Personality: Well, to be perfectly frank, Inferna is...kind of a bitch (and, in real life, she was kind of an attention whore as a teenager, though she mellowed out a bit once she got to college). Inferna's perfectly aware of this, but she also like, doesn't care. With her sarcastic and irreverent sense of humor, Inferna is flippant and frivolous, always brushing other peoples' concerns and criticisms off with a breezy "eat a dick" (or something along those lines). Inferna is also a bit vain, especially when it comes to her hair, and has a very irreverent/ironic sense of humor (and she always appreciates a good nerdy science pun).
Although she really isn't the nicest person around, Inferna’s outgoing nature and spunky spontaneity (paired with a healthy dose of snarkiness) has still made her a couple of friends (and said friends are usually just as thick-skinned as Inferna can be). She's a bit too cocky and reckless for her own good, and she can be blunt to the point of being cruel. Inferna has no sense of tact nor subtlety whatsoever, and she means something when she says it. Inferna's not afraid of confronting someone head-on, and she has absolutely no patience for pussies who would rather subtweet her than talk trash to her face.
Flighty and fickle, Inferna's not always very good about texting back or making plans. She's extremely petty and makes way too many smart remarks for her own good, and has quite the temper on her - Inferna is both easily excited and easily angered, and can be rather capricious if she hasn’t had any coffee. However, she's also quick to forgive (if not necessarily to forget), and she can be surprisingly perceptive and observant sometimes. Inferna's a bit of a hypocrite in that she's not afraid to call out stupid bullshit when she sees it, but she's also very much full of bullshit herself, a fact that she will freely admit to. And although she doesn't seem to take anything seriously, Inferna can and will hold a grudge until the end of time if you piss her off enough.
Finally, some people can find her downright annoying, which Inferna is also perfectly fine with. She's quite self-aware, despite what one may think after interacting with her, and she's definitely not as clueless or oblivious as some people think she is-it's just a matter of if she cares enough to confront somebody about something. And, spoiler alert: nine times out of ten, she doesn't.
“I do things for two reasons, and two reasons only: 1) spite, 2) the aesthetic. That’s it.”
Biography: Inferna had a pretty normal childhood, all things considered; she was a rebellious kid for sure, but her parents were patient with her and let her do what she wanted, so long as her grades didn’t slip (granted, her mom was pretty pissed when she decided that she wanted red hair on a whim one day and just went ahead and got it dyed, but beyond an annoying lecture, there were no other consequences). Inferna got into the gaming scene pretty quickly as a kid - she passed over stupid games like Call of Duty for ones where she could fuck people up and look cute, like League of Legends or World of Warcraft.
Inferna got into a fairly decent public university in Baltimore, and was subsequently pressured into pursuing an undergrad degree in computer science by her parents. Inferna thinks that CS is alright - it’s not her favorite thing in the world, but it’s not unbearably boring like reading wack ass Shakespeare plays and then bullshitting a 2000-word essay about it - and so far, she’s passed all her classes. Which has to count for something, right?
Inferna decided to check out Gem Quest not long after it was released to the public, during the summer after her sophomore year of college. The only reason she really decided to was because she was tired of forking over $10 for each damn skin in League, and with a game like League, what was the fucking point if she couldn’t have a cute character? She slowly got more into it as time went on - the character customization options were absolutely gorgeous, plus she liked being able to actually sample the in-game foods - and it was strangely freeing, in a way, to be able to go on her own adventures and explore everything the levels had to offer. A way better use of her time than sitting in the library trying to debug her goddamn code, in Inferna’s opinion.
As Inferna began to take Gem Quest more seriously, she built a reputation for herself as That Bitch (TM).Thanks to her penchant of hoarding items and coins, she has gotten quite coin-rich, and thanks to her affinity with games that were similar to Gem Quest, she quickly advanced through the easier levels.
Inferna was...surprisingly nonchalant, regarding G’s recent announcement that players could not freely leave the game anymore. She figures that if something horrible happens, she can always steal a relinquium potion from some rando, but until then, she’s just going to enjoy life. G told the real world about the development, Inferna’s assuming, meaning that her parents won’t be expecting her anytime soon. It’s selfish of her to just leave them out there worrying about her, really, but Inferna doesn’t want to go back to the real world, not just yet - one day, she’ll steal that relinquium potion and finish her degree like she’s supposed to, get a 9-5 office job like she’s supposed to, spend all her time on boring software development like she’s supposed to - but right now, she just wants to have some fun.
Relationships:
ENTHRONED - Inferna met Neddy for the first time in Finvarra’s Gardens (Level 10), which Inferna beat a long time ago but returned to because she remembered that the level had the most gorgeous pastries (she forgot that eating/drinking anything would trap her on the level for the rest of the game). Neddy reminded her of that rule, and Inferna spent an inordinate amount of time fawning over Jack like he was a puppy (before asking to ride him, which Neddy agreed to). Inferna thinks Neddy is super cute and generally likes both her and Jack.
Eventually: realizing that Inferna and Plagueis have run into each other before + Inferna has heard the rumors about him and Bloodbriars having the Supernova scroll, Inferna helping Neddy beat Level 30 because she thinks dodgeball is fun
MORNINGSTAR - Inferna met Morningstar in the depths of the Descend one day before the first event. Noticing Morningstar’s potioneering supplies, Inferna asked her if she had anything that would “make it feel like being high on weed, not this red gas stuff that’ll probably give me cancer” (Inferna’s not like, that big on weed, but she likes it on occasion, and kind of misses getting high).
Eventually: form a small two-person party together, Morn being all starry-eyed about Inferna telling her about how she’s fucked around in general (going to college parties, getting absolutely wasted, getting twisted, just generally dumb college freshman shit), somehow realizing that Inferna knows Emily through a League Discord server

The Hunchback of Notre Dame - What is your muse’s religious beliefs? Have they ever experienced oppression at the hands of religion?
//Ok well FIRST of all
youtube
//And also this is;;; probably gonna be long;;; made twice as long because i’m gonna do one for standard!tutu (the one where she’s basically swan jesus) and one for verses/aus where she’s… at least a LITTLE bit more normal (see: her dad’s not a LITERAL DEITY)
I’m actually gonna start off with the latter here bc i think the former is probably gonna be longer anyway SO
(continues under cut)
In verses/aus where Tutu’s father isn’t a literal, actual spirit/deity/entity/god/what-have-ye (BNHA/affiliated spinoffs; duckverse/anthro/etc.; wizarding world; etc.):
She is… SOMEWHAT religious; definitely not overly so (see: not an asshole about it) but believes in angels/miracles/god/heaven and-or the afterlife. Definitely christianity-adjacent but not any particular type of christianity; possibly believes in hell/purgatory/some sort of punishment system after death but doesn’t really like to think about it, and her qualifications for GETTING there are stuff like, say, ‘committing many horrible murders’ or ‘being an unapologetic bigot’ as opposed to ‘not believing in jesus’ or ‘enjoying having sex’ or whatever.
She doesn’t really even, say, go to church regularly (she’s heckin BUSY come on), but does enjoy being IN church, especially alone; it’s like a bit of a meditation for her/helps her clear her head and feel closer to god/spirituality/the universe/heaven/her mom.
She also prays pretty much every day- specifically once in the morning and at night- but also prays informally whenever she feels the need, and probably wouldn’t own much religious iconography besides maybe a few cross necklaces– you know, small, tasteful, very expensive; delicate, real silver or gold, maybe a single pearl right in the middle of the cross but that’s about it.
Whereas on the OTHER hand
//HOO BOY//
In main verse and associated, she’s… um.
Ok, so the Swan King may not technically be an actual GOD per se, but, well… He’s close. And people DO worship him. Not as many as there used to be, but they’re still there, and generally speaking basically everybody in the kingdom and round abouts that area observe it (swanianism or something idk) at least casually, by at least saying ‘swansdown’ and ‘swanfeathers’ and ‘by the swan’ instead of, for example, ‘oh my god’.
There’s, like, one official church, with stained glass and pews and everything, where all the high-class weddings and funerals and etc. get held there, but there aren’t really any ‘priests’ and they don’t really hold services.
There are lots and lots of old swan statues all over the area from centuries back, and while some of them got moved onto the tops of buildings/in fountains/ended up centers of various village squares, a lot of them had sort of… had temples built around them over the years- it just sorta happened- and that’s mainly where the average people observe their worship.
Also, the Schwanensee royal family featured pretty largely in the theology, being sort of… the same thing as saints in Catholicism; whenever anybody was born/died on the sacred island a messenger dove got sent over to the mainland and there was an announcement made about it to the village. The sacred island/lake wasn’t really thought of as a real place- it was more like if you could see heaven a little bit from a high window, or if you climbed a really tall tree.
So when the island was basically burned to the ground and almost all the royal family was killed, it was… um…..
Kind of a big fuckin’ deal.
When Tutu was rescued from the ruins, and everybody saw her, and everybody knew who she was, it was an even bigger deal. Everybody, in unison, basically decided that this tiny, traumatized, soot-covered, gray-feathered 6-year-old was the chosen one who was going to save them from everything from minor disagreements to, y’know, being ripped apart alive/having your heart and emotions pulled out and eaten by flocks of devil birds.
People even started… worshipping her.
After the initial adjustment period, she actually handled it pretty well; at least externally. Of course, anyone who knows anything about actually being royalty knows that the whole trick is to be royal on the outside and a cobbled-together mess sustained by stress like that physics thing where you hold up a legless table by strings and the buckets of water on it, but as she got older she actually managed to get more of a handle on it.
All in all, she’s…
I mean, she’s more or less got it. Apart from sudden attacks of crippling, soul-crushing anxiety. But she really, really, really wishes that people would stop, or at least give the whole actually worshipping her a rest a little. Generally speaking, everybody in the kingdom (or at least in the castle village) does genuinely like her, but sometimes she gets people who want to, like, kneel at her, or try to touch her dress/feathers as she walks past, and when she tries to talk to them they start flinching away and holding up their little carved swan amulet necklaces like they think it’ll protect them and she’s just like dad dammit i am trying to be friendly do i have to say ‘be not afraid’ or something every time i go up to introduce myself to someone???
But yeah, generally speaking it’s not really a problem from the swan-leaning side. Where it starts going wrong is the raven-leaning side.
The swan-leaning people are all in all, y’know, normal fucking people, and their religion-worship-belief-etc. only ever gets to obnoxious-christianity levels.
But the raven-leaning people can generally be qualified altogether as a crazy ransacking-and-pillaging murder cult.
And they actually have backup from real, actual infernal blood magic demon stuff, a seemingly infinite supply of flocks of murderbirds and various and sundry quirky miniboss squad-types, whereas the normal people really only have Tutu and, allegedly, the faerie folk (those affiliated with the Lilac Fairy/Queen, at least) but they haven’t been seen in generations so it’s really anyone’s guess on that.
They do a lot of, you know, general murder and mayhem- or at least they did, but the last really big thing they managed to pull off was the massacre on the sacred island, and technically speaking they actually failed to complete their objective because Queen Leda put Tutu to sleep with some ~magic~ and hid her in the hollow base of a swan statue in the middle of a rose thicket, which, by some sort of ‘coincidence’, didn’t seem to catch fire very much, and they were all too drunk on moonshine and bloodlust, and generally crazy and stupid, to actually look further for any survivors when everything was on fire and there were crows everywhere and they just sort of decided ‘yeah that’s it let’s go home’ and fucked off.
At the current time, most of them aren’t actually too much of a threat because most of them are the stupid crazy ~3edgy5me~ idiot types– y’know, the kind who’d, say, march around waving factory-produced tiki torches at night and demand a police escort if they’re gonna be shouting in the general vicinity of a pride event because they’re ‘fearful of their safety :’(’
so, like, nowadays they’re really only like Team Rocket-level nuisances on a day-to-day basis because the kingdom had learned from their history and swore in a lot more ‘guards’ and ‘knights’- enough to mostly keep the peace in pretty much every town unless things get really, really bad.
Uuuunfortunately, it’s not just idiots who want to wear black cloaks with pointy hoods to look like beaks and wave big curved swords around– i mean, it’s MOSTLY that, but also a lot of very smart, very greedy, bored, evil, and/or scheming people end up gravitating towards anything that’ll give them a lot of dumb people who they can tell what to do.
So occasionally- very occasionally- they actually do something that’s… actually impactful, and everybody who gets out of it in one piece talks about how fucked up that was and ‘curse those raven bastards’ and etc. etc., but the crowmen (as they’re informally known) are also surprisingly good at apparently vanishing without a trace so it’s hard to catch them or do anything really constructive about the problem as a whole.
Weeellllll, okay, ADMITTEDLY a few various gangs of them HAVE managed, by coincidence or the type of brief narrative luck that dumb people like that seem to have sometimes, to briefly kidnap Tutu, but she either gets rescued very quickly OR escapes by herself while they’re arguing with each other about HOW to kill her, WHETHER to kill her, and what the prospects of killing her now or maybe ransoming her and then killing her LATER would be, or they all sort of trip over their own and each other’s feet, cloaks, and swords and blunder their way into harmlessness in one way or another.
TL;DR Tutu sort of... IS a part of her religion like how Jesus is a part of Christianity/associates and all things considered she’s handling it pretty well. Her entire family was murdered by basically a crazy satanic cult who still run around causing problems, but not as much as they used to, so.... Does that count as religious oppression???

narsaksas replied to your post “going to have a lot of free time this week… anyone give me drabble...”
thebigpalooka I’d love to see you write about your star knight and princess AU you posted art of a while ago!!
iii think you might have meant to send that to @thebigpalooka herself? I didn’t make that gorgeous art, and I know literally nothing about that verse save that it exists.
HOWEVER
I am just that bored so I decided to take the concept and see what happened in my brain. It was this.
If anyone asked Mickey an hour ago – or even a minute ago – if he was a serious soldier whose attention could never be diverted, he would have given a resounding “yes!” with all his heart. He had trained for years to be in this position, despite the naysayers who mocked his humble origins and short stature. It hadn't been easy, but he'd risen through the ranks and now was ready to become an official knight of the court. He couldn't have been prouder as he walked through the halls, joined by his fellow brother-in-arms. He would've smiled at them in a silent congratulations, but they all wore serious, stony expressions, and he figured he should too.
And so here he was, on one knee, hearing the Captain of the Guard read aloud their duties and assignments, entailing their destinies, and Mickey was, up to this point, a serious soldier whose attention could never be diverted.
Then the princess walked in and that got shot to hell.
Mickey had only seen her a handful of times, and each one had been by sheer accident. He feared he never made a good impression on her, as each time he saw her he was so wildly enraptured by her beauty he forgot the rest of the world existed, which wasn't useful when you were training in swordplay against another soldier or out riding your horse – somehow both times wound up with him getting a black eye and stuck in a fence. Every time it happened, he told himself next time it wouldn't happen and this would be a lie.
Like now. Oh gods and goddesses above, she really was a beauty, and Mickey was forgetting how to breathe. What was she doing here anyway? She calmly stood near the Captain, who didn't acknowledge her presence, and she looked across the room at all the upcoming knights. Mickey silently pleaded don't look at me don't look at me don't look at me, but of course she looked at him and he felt his heart explode. Her delicate features frowned, trying to pinpoint where she'd seen him before, and then her eyes widened in recognition. Gods she was so cute. Every movement was cute. He wished he was dead. He wished he could be with her. Help.
Much to his growing horror he could hear his own tail wagging against the stone floor, and mentally screamed for it to KNOCK THAT OFF, but he couldn't control it much as he couldn't control his gazing at her, eyes going every tiny feature. How could any living person be this pretty? No wonder she was rarely seen outside the castle, the entire kingdom would surely stop once they saw her.  Nothing would ever get done again! Knights would be out of a job – WAIT, WASN'T HE BEING TURNED INTO A KNIGHT RIGHT NOW?!
His eyes flew to the Captain, who had, it seemed, been trying to get his attention for a couple of seconds now. Mickey's entire face flushed. He offered a shaky smile, feeling himself shrink smaller and smaller under the older man's glare. The Captain crossed his arms, the intensity of his stare hotter than than lava. “I asked you a question, Sir Mouse.”
Oooh no. What did he ask?! Mickey couldn't just ask! Gee, sorry Captain, I was too busy gawkin' like a real fool at the princess, mind repeatin' yourself? Yeah, that'd go over well. His knighthood was over before it even began, and his eyes darted around the room, struggling to think. He found himself looking at the princess again – he couldn't help it! - and then blinked. She seemed to be speaking, yet making no sound, silently wording something, nudging her head towards the Guard.
Con... stell... a...tion... constellation... Oh!
Mickey quickly straightened his back and mustered the most serious expression he could. “Scorpio, sir.”
The Guard frowned, but was willing to move on. “Mortal enemy of the hunter, Orion. Your lineage has shed much blood for the sake of power. However, your morality has shone as brightly as the birth of a new galaxy. There is no doubt where your allegiance lays. The council thought long and hard over this decision... you will be made bodyguard to Princess Minnie.”
“Wh-” Mickey had just barely enough sense to cut him off before finishing the “WHAT” that threatened to escape his mouth. He rapidly looked back and forth between the Guard and the princess – he also caught some looks of the other knights, many of whom were stunned – Minnie herself was smiling kindly, welcoming him without a word. “I... uh... thank you. I m-mean, yes sir, of course sir!”
And here he thought wishing on a star didn't work.

Interview with Genn
Q: If Anduin was able to bring back the dead, would you ask him with extreme politeness if he could bring back great warriors of Gilneas? Yes that includes Liam
Genn: The dead should stay dead and rest. And that includes Liam.
Q: How do you feel about Tess being part of the Uncrowned?
Genn: Tess is part of what now? Tess: (Wildly gesturing “He has no idea, shut up!” behind Genn’s back)
Q: What do you think about the heroes?
Genn: Powerful. Useful. Sometimes toying with things that shouldn’t be toyed with. Sort of... unreliable.
Q: How do you feel about Death Knight Worgen?
Genn: I mean, being Worgen is bad enough, they didn’t choose to be dead murderous machines either. I guess... I have an understanding. But no sympathy.
Q: How much do you hate Nathanos Blightcaller?
Genn: On a scale from 1 to 10 there isn’t any number that would be big enough.
Q: Does Anduin reminds you of Liam? If so, its painful to watch him and remember your son?
Genn: No. Liam was a warrior. A leader. Anduin is a whinny ninny who likes books too much for his own good.
Q: Do you think, at some point that Tess will become queen, and if yes, what queen do you think she will be?
Genn: She is the daughter of a king, of course she will become a queen. Genn: It is going to be problematic with her. She wants to be her, as she says it, her own woman. She doesn’t understand she isn’t meant to be in the front line doing things. Women should stay home and safe while we protect them! Genn: I am... I am not saying that she wouldn’t be able to go and kick asses. I just. Don’t like that idea. She is a lady, for Light’s sake. She should be the caring one.
Q: Do you love your daughter? Because sometimes it feels like you don’t.
Genn: Of course I love my daughter! What kind of father doesn’t love his daughter? I’d do anything for Tess!
Q: I always wondered if the transformation into Worgen was hurting?
Genn: It isn’t painful. It is more like... sneezing with all your body at once.
Q: Why with such attachment in Anduin verse?
Genn: He has lost his father. I am the only competent father around. And he needs a strong man as a model and a teacher. Just look at him! On his own he would either start wearing skirts or even worse, entered a monastery, which also includes wearing skirts. And he is being a friend with that blasted black dragon! Black dragons are evil!
Q: Do you ever feel insecure about Gilneas being destroyed and having to go to Stormwind and follow a new, young, and inexperienced king and not being able to rise like you used to?
Genn: Actually, since I’ve got my ass out of Darnassus, things are getting better. Genn: Anduin has always been opened to take advice from someone more experienced. Unlike Tyrande. Genn: Who might be more experienced. But also, she is a gentle woman and a priestess, nothing made for this cruel wartime.
Q: Do you still keep in touch with Crowley?
Genn: Oh. Yeah. Not really. We have... differing opinions. Genn: However, Tess is very befriended with the whole family, which is good for all kinds of diplomacy.
Q: Do you ever get flashbacks of the Battle for Gilneas?
Genn: Yeah. It’s called nightmares.
Q: What was your opinion on Varian?
Genn: Good king. Good warrior. Good friend. More liberal then I am, but then, it has been brought to my attention that against all new things I tend to build a wall. Sometimes literal. Genn: I know I don’t have to be always right about things, and that times change. But I am too old for changing. Varian was younger than I and has been taught different values.
Q: How did the worgen react to him being the Chosen of Goldrinn?
Genn: Actually, we didn’t give a fuck. Like, not our problem, really.
Q: How would you react if Anduin actually fell in love with Tess?
Genn: That would be wonderful. Mia and I have actually been thinking about bringing the two of them together. I have discussed it with Varian, too, but he always insisted that it is Anduin’s problem, not his. Genn: So overall, I would be very pleased. Love isn’t required in a marriage, but it certainly helps things.
Q: What do you think about Katherine Proudmoore?
Genn: I didn’t really bother making an opinion. Knowing the Proudmoores’ luck, she is gonna get struck by a meteor or something before this whole war is over.
Q: What is your opinion on the night elves?
Genn: They whole society is upside down of what I have been taught and what I know! Women warriors? Friendly nature? Have they heard of proper walls and doors? Why are they so damn tall?
Q: Did Gilneans like Darnassus (before Sylvanas burned it down)?
Genn: Ummm... you know, there was this gigantic wall thing and Kalimdor being not a really discovered continent until recently. Genn: Although I admit, the Draenei were way more surprising.
Q: How do you feel about new allied races that recently joined the Alliance?
Genn: Evil, insane, creepy, and all of above. Silver coin for you if you can guess which is which.
Q: Does your mind sometimes shift between forms, even if your body doesn't?
Genn: No, not really. I don’t think my mind shifts at all... It is more like... In Worgen form, I can get away with way more things I wouldn’t as a human. Such as, say, tearing out the jugular vein with my bare teeth out of a Troll’s neck.
Q: What's your opinion on Jaina Proudmoore?
Genn: Batshit crazy. But it was a long time coming. Genn: There was this whole Arthas thing, then she lost her father, then there was Arthas again, the Theramore got destroyed... Jaine deserves support and a bit of pity. Not condemnation. Pushing her away because she is insane and sangerous is going to make things worse. Genn: She needs help. But I don’t know how to help her.
Q: Since being able to shift at will between human and worgen, which form you like the most?
Genn: I am still favouring my human form, because it is more, well, human. Although, the Worgen one is... more practical in many ways. Except small spaces, I can’t fit anywhere like that.
Q: Also, any special carw for that glorious mane/fur of yours in the BfA trailer?
Genn: Fleas-Flee shampoo. I don’t want to hear any comments.
Q: Genn Greymane is a fitting name, innit? Did anyone ever... point that out?
Genn: Well, the only person who did was Taedal. I consider it some kind of a demon insult. Because he laughed.
Q: Favourite food?
Genn: Roasted quails. With a touch of roasted almonds, maybe?
Q: Did your preferences in cuisine change after you wee affected by the curse?
Genn: Well... I used to like my meat medium rare, but now I am more into well done. And I dirnk far more water than I used to.
Q: In how much trouble would one be, if one were to call you daddy? Asking for a friend. *cough* daddy *cough*
Genn: Unless it was my children, I’d hand them over to the guards.
Q: How's the wife? Haven't seen her out in public lately, and with you out and away so much,  I sure hope she is alright.
Genn: Mia is good. Mia is good. War front isn’t any place for gentle women. She is staying back in Darnassus. Genn: Which caught fire... Genn: On that matter, she’s got a new haircut, because her hair got kind of... scorched. Genn: But otherwise she is doing good. I feel bad for neglecting her. But you know. There is a war going on.

So you're saying there's literally no way at all that Prince Rhaegar of Dragonstone, future king of the Seven Kingdoms, could annul his marriage?
Well, we do have evidence of polygamy in Westeros. It was a ceremony does by Queen Visenya Targaryen because no septon would assist in a polygamaus marriage. Despite the fact that the person being married, Maegor I Targaryen, rode Balerion the Black Dread and could have burnt any septon refusing to death. He married his new wife because the old was had given him no children. Notice that despite the lack of children there was no discussion of an annulment. That marriage led to the Faith rebelling against the Targaryens in 41 AC.
We have all of one “dissolved marriage” that I can find among the Targaryens. It was that of Baelor the Blessed, who was so pious that he refused to consummate the marriage with his sister-wife Daena. In order to shame him, she chose to wear white every day after their wedding until he consummated it. He never did. After the marriage was dissolved on grounds of it being contracted before he was king and the lack of consummation Baelor locked his sisters in the Maidenvault.
So the Faith rose in war when Maegor wanted a wife who could give him heirs and the only king ever released from his marriage was literally the Faith’s favorite king ever.
Rhaegar was not king, so he could not claim that the marriage shouldn’t count because he was forced into it. He could also not claim that the marriage was unconsummated, as he had two children with Elia. One was his heir to the Iron Throne and the Prince Who Was Promised. An annulment would remove Aegon, the PWWP, out of the line of succession in exchange for what Rhaegar thought would be a female child with Lyanna, a Visenya to marry Aegon.
So no, there was no reason to give him a divorce, much less an annulment, unless the Faith had turned against their god and decided they wanted the realm to go to war.
The only reasonable way I see this happening is if Aerys gets involved, decides he doesn’t want a Dornish heir, disregards Viserys for reasons, and threatens the High Septon into annulling Rhaegar’s marriage. The High Septon then does absolutely nothing with this information, despite being in a position to reveal how terrible Aerys is to everyone and possibly get revenge by having him unseated.
Let me be perfectly clear here. Even if annulments were being handed out like candy the impossibility annulment itself is not the only problem. If it was just “Rhaegar got an annulment from his unloving unconsummated marriage” that would be one thing.
What actually happened is much worse.
Rhaegar intentionally started a war.
Rhaegar paved the way for a future civil war.
Rhaegar helped the Others.
Allow me to explain.
Rhaegar intentionally started a war
We know several things about show!Rhaegar’s intentions with Lyanna. Let us assume, as you would, the purest of intentions on his part.
Rhaegar needed a Third Head of the Dragon and Elia could not provide that child.
Rhaegar had met Lyanna at Harrenhal and respected her fighting abilities/fall in love.
Rhaegar wanted to marry Lyanna.
Rhaegar knew Lyanna was betrothed to Robert and that she didn’t want to be.
Rhaegar knew Lyanna loved her family.
Rhaegar’s marriage was loveless.
Rhaegar did his very best to prevent bad things from happening.
So Rhaegar, with all of the above in mind, decided that secretly convincing Lyanna to ride away with him to Dorne was the Best Plan Ever. We all know how that ended.
What should Rhaegar have done?
Write a letter to Rickard offering to set aside Elia and marry Lyanna, a great honor.
Call a Great Counsel, then do the above.
Attempt to get Robert to willingly break his betrothal by offering him gold/lands/women/literally anything.
Call a Great Counsel, then do the above.
Steal Lyanna away, get married, and then go to Kings Landing and have Lyanna write a letter to her father/brothers saying she’s completely happy with Rhaegar and doesn’t want them to go to war.
Call a Great Counsel, then do the above.
Call a Great Counsel.
Do exactly what he did, but take Lyanna to her father and brothers under a peace banner and let her tell them she wasn’t kidnapped.
Instead of doing literally any of the above, he decides to make off with the North’s daughter and the Storm Lord’s bride and tell no one anything. At best he’s an idiot unfit to sit the throne. At worst he was trying to start a war.
If he was going to set aside Elia anyway, he had a lot of options. Rhaegar isn’t an idiot. He knows that the Brandon/Cat marriage means an alliance between the North and Riverlands. He knows the Robert/Ned Arryn fostering means an alliance between the Stormlands/North and the Vale. He knows that the Lyanna/Robert marriage means an alliance between the Stormlands and the North. He has all of this information, he can weigh “Dorne rebelling” verses “the North/Riverlands/Stormlands/Vale rebelling.”
Yes Robert would have been furious at him taking Lyanna no matter what. But Lyanna’s kidnapping didn’t start the rebellion. Jon Arryn and Hoster Tully weren’t going to risk their own necks because Robert lost a woman. If Lyanna was happy and not missing and likely being raped, Rickard could be convinced to stay in the North. We aren’t arguing happiness here. We’re looking at a cost/benefit analysis of starting a war because the king married a woman and will make her children his heirs. Rickard wins here, because his grandchildren will be kings. Would he have been happy? No. Would he have risked his life, his son’s lives, and his daughter’s life because of this slight? Probably not.
Once Rhaegar was married to Lyanna and King of Westeros he could then have softened the blow to Dorne. Legitimize Elia’s children and promise that Aegon will still be king, and that he will marry Rhaenys and “Visenya.” He expected a girl, remember.
This isn’t an argument revolving around some guy with little to no political information running off with his One True Love. Rhaegar was supposed to be a better king than his father was. Good kings do not ignore their people, their realm, their heirs, and their insane fathers just to do whatever they want. Perhaps if Rhaegar was only a knight, a argument could be made. He was a prince meant to be a king, he knew what he was doing. That Rhaegar had options and chose none of them suggests that he would make as poor a king as his father did.
Leaving Aerys to handle the fallout from what he did got Lyanna’s brother and father killed. There’s also the matter that wolf-blooded Lyanna stayed in that tower after hearing this news. Would Arya have been ok with Ned and Robb dying because she ran off with her lover? Or would she have fought tooth and nail to get out of there and help her family? If Rhaegar lied to Lyanna to keep her in that tower, that tells us all we need to know about their relationship. Lying to keep someone with you is abuse.
Frankly, based on the information we have, it looks like Rhaegar weighed his options and chose the one most likely to cause war. “Love” is not an excuse for getting thousands of people killed when you had a dozen other options.
Rhaegar paved the way for a future civil war.
The Blackfyre rebellion began when Aegon the Unworthy littered bastards all over Westeros and legitimized them on his deathbed. Because the eldest of these bastards was so beloved by Aegon - even being given the sword Aegon the Conqueror had wielded - his claim stuck and caused war after war after war.
Previously it could be assumed that Rhaegar had avoided this because he planned to have only one child, a Visenya, with Lyanna. He could easily legitimize this girl child and she would be married to his son, causing no threat to succession.
Assuming that Rhaegar wanted a boy with Lyanna, a Prince Who Was Promised, that means that the newly-bastard born Aegon would have a legitimate claim to the throne. After Rhaegar died he could easily have garnered the support of Dorne. If a few other kingdoms saw things how he did this could quickly snowball into a worse war than the Blackfyre wars had been. After all, Aegon VI had been born legitimate and was only a bastard because of the actions of his father. Actions that went against the Faith.
So even if everything turned out just perfect for Rhaegar and Elia agreed to shut up and return to Dorne then shortly after his death the realm would probably be caught up in yet another war. Because Doran wouldn’t have been pleased, and he would know that Aegon was the best way to see a Dornish king on the throne.
Rhaegar helped the Others
Imagine if the Others arrived the Night’s Watch was full of knights who had been warned of the danger on the other side of the Wall. Imagine if, instead of the boy Jon Snow, it was the King of Westeros who lead the fight against them. Imagine if the first time a deserter showed up in Winterfell a raven flew straight to Kings Landing and Rhaegar showed up with an army.
There would be no Queen Cersei or Queen Dany to tear the armies into pieces. No explosion of the sept. No reason that when Rhaegar called his banners that the full force of the Seven Kingdoms would not show up armed to the teeth with dragonglass and Valyrian steel. There aren’t enough wildlings Beyond the Wall to defeat the might of the Seven Kingdoms even if every single one was added to the army of the dead.
Instead of having years to prepare for war, Westeros was torn apart by wars. Robert’s Rebellion, caused by Rhaegar leaving Aerys to deal with the fallout from Lyanna vanishing, would never have happened. The War of the Five Kings never would have happened, because Cersei’s children couldn’t inherit the Iron Throne. Balon Greyjoy’s rebellions - both of them - never would have happened.
The only reason the Others are a threat is because no one knows how to fight them. What armies are left are tiny compared to their pre-war strength and thus the Others will be able to easily overrun them. Their only saving grace is the dragons. Dragons would not be necessary if the realm had literally decades to prepare for war.
My outrage is centered on the treatment of Elia Martell and her children, who were cast aside like they didn’t matter, yes. But it doesn’t stop there. My dislike for Rhaegar goes farther back than the last episode of Game of Thrones. He could very well have been the Prince Who Was Promised himself, but instead he made the worst possible decisions and sent the realm reeling into war.
When your best quality as king is that you don’t burn men alive, you’re a bad king.
