I think I'll finally go back to setting a queue on tumblr again... I've been kind of only sporadically using social media lately to keep up with Palestine updates from different sources (which I still want to do) but I also want to maybe use this blog for my interests and maybe even my writing again. I've made a few new friends here on tumblr lately and I kind of want to start talking to people here more...

2023 sewing projects - part 1 details at the end of the post (click here for part 2)

Note: I work for a fabric shop so I get most of my fabrics for free as well as some patterns as I have to be wearing our products at work (I definitely consider it a perk). Without this job I would not be sewing as much and I'd probably be buying most of my fabric second hand or on sale as I used to do before. I also sometimes sew during work hours so keep that in mind if you're also a sewist, go at your own rythm 💜 Although I have basic training in pattern drafting I prefer to sew from pre-existing patterns to save on time (as i have to regularly make myself some new clothes for work) and discover new techniques and styles - but I often change stuffs to adapt the designs to my style.

1 - first outfit for my friend's wedding (this one was for the henna night), it's made in a linen-viscose blend and it's very easy and quick to make + i can easily wear each piece separately!

2 - second outfit for my friend's wedding made out of 100% silk muslin (it was a big remnant i found on sale) - i ended up making made a lot of changes from the base pattern: i lenghtened the sleeves a lot, i changed the skirt piece as the og one was too short for me and also too wide for my narrow fabric so i just cut rectangles in the desired length and gathered everything at the waist - the skirt is fully lined both in silk and in lining fabric - I also took a lot in at the middle back and some on the sides (i would've have loved to make a toile but sadly a nasty tendinitis kept me away from sewing for a few months so i had to speed things up before the wedding)

3 - i made this bodysuit last week - it was my first time working on a knit fabric in a while and i should have lenghtened it a bit more than i already did as the shoulder seams are being slightly pulled back - in a viscose/polyester milano knit + modified pants from a magazine in a viscose , large pants in fluid fabrics like that are great for all seasons as i can easily put some tights on underneath when it's too cold. I'm so glad i found a knitted fabric to match the print on the pants!

4/5 - this dress and blouse have the same base pattern from the same book but i modified the end of the sleeves on both (they were supposed to be gathered on a wrist band and closed with buttons) to create a ruffle effect with an elastic - on the dress i took out the collar piece and slightly adjusted the side seams to make them more fitting + i traced another skirt piece based on the back of the skirt in pic1 and added a ruffle at the bottom - the dress is made in a viscose twill and the top in a coton double gauze

6/7 - both of these tops are made from the same pattern, i simply lenghtened the sleeves for the checkered version and on both i tightened the sleeve band - it's a very quick pattern to make. The dotted one is made from a very fine coton corduroy and the checkered one is in a coton double gauze. The pants are made in a thicker corduroy, I'm very much in between sizes when it comes to pants (depending on the brands I cover around 4 sizes between my waist and my thighs at their thickest) I ended up cutting the size for my thighs and simply deepening the folds and the darts to make it fit at the waist + I wanted a loser fit on the legs so i added 1cm on each side

8 - this shirt is made in a linen and viscose blend (same fabric as the pink matching set) except for the contrasting blue elements which are in linen-coton - i had fun playing with the classic shirt finishing and deciding what to do in blue (the buttonholes are threaded in blue!)

9/10 - this top is made from a simple coton gauze, the bodice is lined with the same fabric (super quick to make although the fact that the right and wrong side are the same means i've put in on wrong at least twice lmao) - the pants are made in coton gabardine (i've also had to trace between sizes here - this is a us sizes pattern and for this i'm in between 6 and 10 with a slight redrawing of the crotch and the side seams under the pockets) I love this pattern because it comes in a slim legs version, a straight one, a wide version (this one) and a short version. I've made another large version in orange and a slim version in white.

11 - these pants are made in a coton-linen twill - pretty straightforward in their making, as always I am in between sizes for pants so I cut a size 10 (can't remember if this was in us or uk sizes)and ended up having to do my usual changes for pants by deepening the front folds and the back darts (which I also had to make longer to accomodate not just for my waist circumference which is 2 sizes smaller than my thighs but also the arch of my back). Really like how large the belt is and how the fold is pressed all the way down the leg. I wore it with the green top, a red jacket and gold shoes for christmas eve!

Another fiber arts update!

Calendar nonsense again, first and foremost:

Days 5-7 were merino/linen, merino, and what I'm pretty sure is a merino/bamboo viscose mix that I had a sample of in a different colorway a couple months back.

The merino/linen will be an interesting challenge, both thanks to the linen content and because I want this to be contrasty and bold like the unspun fiber. The dyed merino is nice dyed merino but it's also dyed merino; been there, done that, had the crocheting friend make a whole-ass shawl out of it. The tweed thing I actually like a lot, color-wise; the product photo never interested me, but irl it's giving Planet Earth with the blues and the splashes of green. Unfortunately, last time I spun this fiber, it kept drafting into clumps because the viscose is so much more slippery than the merino. Let's see if it's less annoying this time I guess. I'd like that, because this stuff makes really pretty yarn actually.

Then, projects:

50g of blue glitter merino down, 150 more to go. (*photo does not show all 50g, my bobbin is tiny. This was maybe 30g)

100g of purely spindle-spun Coburg Fox that I'll now put off washing forever:

The lighting's shit because I was making yarn on company time again, but this stuff is a lovely swamp green, I love it, and I'll never escape the glitter merino. Doing a relatively low-twist, soft single this time; might keep it as a 2-ply or try cabling it to bulk it up a little, not sure yet. I had both a couple grams of sample and the stuff from my advent calendar, so that's neat. Maybe I'll make a wrist distaff out of it; I need one, and it'd be an impressive fiber for it.

And, last but not least, free samples I got!

I'll do a stash update Soon (it, uh. fully hit me that I'll need to spin 700 grams of yarn for christmas lmao. That's about 1.5 lbs. oops!), but I didn't get around to it yet. So, for now, samples! Not shown is the swamp green sparkle merino, because it's been spun.

Left to right: some of the expensive Ashford merino/silk (gorgeous!!! and soft, but oof ouch I better not like this one too much), dyed merino (is dyed merino, I mostly just wanted to see the color irl), polwarth/silk/yak (I am very intimidated, but this is also the warmest thing I've ever touched. Also something I hopefully won't like too much), and dyed (tow) flax (gave it a very quick try, drove me nuts. Maybe I'll get used to it!)

I also have a new shawl made of my handspun stuff, but I didn't get a picture of it yet that actually does it justice, so. Soon! I hope!

Do you respond to comments?

I try to!! Sometimes I get a notification but I don't have the spoons to write out a deserving reply, but then I forget and then the next time I get a comment... it's been months and I'm too embarrassed to reply after such an enormously long wait. I also have a tendency to not reply to comments under the last chapter of multichaps until I've posted the new chapter.

What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

grim-old-place, I think, even though it isn't really angsty. I enjoy writing happy endings and hopeful open endings far more. Big fan of fix-its, personally. But yeah, grim-old-place is probably the one with the angstiest ending (despite being only a drabble) because it's just so. Hopeless, I suppose?

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

an eye for an eye, hands down. Hopeful and happy, which is not something you'd expect for a angry&angsty revenge fic full of grief.

Do you get hate on fics?

I don't. Not yet, at least (I'm sure it'll happen though? It's part of posting your stuff online for the world to see). Very thankful I've not gotten any hate yet.

Once I got 'hate' on my attitude towards JKR (in which I think she's awful), but that was not on the fic itself, more on my author's notes.

Do you write smut?

Yes. It's very awkward for me. I'm not a very sexual person lol.

Do you write crossovers?

I haven't! No inspo for a good crossover yet either. I'm more an AU person (Bridgerton Prongsfoot, anyone?)

I've only ever been asked (I think by a bot lmao), but no, no translations (to my knowledge)

I've tried and it ended in chaos <3 The other author and I are still friends, but our schedules just didn't align at all.

Superbat! Prongsfoot is a close-second. (The ship I've shipped the longest is Zukka I believe)

What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?

I've got this time-travel Tomarry fic in my drafts that I want to completely write before posting, but idk if that'll happen lmao. There's a changed backstory to Harry that needs to be taken into account and it's just... a lot.

What are your writing strengths?

I'm very descriptive and (apparently) good at setting a vibe! It's always nice to hear that because those are, generally, my favourite bits in reading actual novels.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Sentence-structure variety, use of the passive voice, putting too much detail or far too little because I want to get to the fun bit, creating a well-rounded plot... many.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language?

I've considered it before for another WIP, but... I do think it'll take a reader out of the immersiveness of a fic. I'm also not fluent in any other language than English, Dutch, and Frisian, which may mean I'll royally fuck up any sentences I write in, say, French. There's this skin that allows you to show the translation when you hover though which is cool!! If you're confident in the other language, that might be something nice to look into haha

First fandom you wrote for?

Harry Potter (unpublished) or Hetalia. I think I've still got a USB stick with some ancient files on there lying around.

Favourite fic you've ever written?

oh, my dear girl. It was really fun to write female Harry in a good relationship with her aunt and cousin, and I've got some really fun bits in the upcoming sequels/chapters (undecided how I'll do that still) as well.

(There's another WIP (still unposted) that I just really love, in which Harry's consciousness travels to an alternate dimension and he ends up in the body of Henry 'Harry' Potter, James' twin brother (who is younger than James by twenty minutes). Henry's consciousness is still there and they just work together, which results in a lot of chaos (with James). )

I also adore nightcourt.gov because it's just humour and silliness which you just need sometimes.

Sometimes it was a lot having Ari look at you like he wanted to eat you and protect you forever, all at once.

His laugh was quiet and warm, the look in his eyes tender as he smiled and shrugged. "I can’t help it."

"You always look like you want to eat me," you blurted, your face burning as you stifled an embarrassed groan.

"Oh I do." Ari waggled his eyebrows at you, but the look in his eye was…sinful. Wanting.

Whining some more, despite the way your pussy fluttered under his avid attention, you pulled one of the throw pillows over your face.

You felt Ari's hands retreat from your feet, and the sofa shift under the movement of his big body, and then he was tugging the pillow from your face and tossing it aside before crawling over you and sinking his warm weight against you.

"Deal with it, honey," he murmured as he caressed the curve of your cheek with his knuckles. "It’s what you signed up for, forever."

He reached for your hand, gently holding it aloft and gazing down at the diamond sparkling on your ring finger.

Pressing a kiss to your skin, he smiled at you, your favorite kind of smile, all soft and doting and just for you.

You went pliant then, your nerves and embarrassment fading away entirely as you tipped you face up and caught Ari's lips against yours.

but my chronic pain has sucked so bad for so long that i literally ran out of shit to post lmfao so

for $2 a month!! new and improved!! i will be posting two polls every month : ) one will be for you to choose which two fics i take from my googledoc and get all set up into a draft post

and the second will be for you to choose which 1 or 2 fics i will post that month!! 1 or 2 depending on whether or not i have any requests done at the time because i always like to post those as soon as possible. more likely than not it's going to be two

i do have like. a lot of fics in my docs and in my drafts and i'm not going to make a poll with like 20 options every month lmfao but there will still be good and varied choices. You can choose multiple options and the top two will be the winners and i'm thinking i'll leave each poll open until it's time to post the first thing of the month

💙 for $4 a month you get the polls and the wips and also sfw and nsfw aus like you know. au where they're mermaids or whatever. but more elaborate lmfao. i write at 10-point font and for the sfw things i usually aim for 3 pages and for the nsfw things 2 pages. and sometimes i get really invested in one au in particular so i usually split those into parts and add them onto the normal amount 

a lot of them are completely new stuff that i haven't written and sometimes i turn them into actual fics that get posted here eventually. there are some definite bangers like single dads au and mafia au and fallen angel au and final fantasy 10 au. others are like extra things that i've thought about for fics i've already posted like fairy pet au and biker au. currently i'm working on multiple parts for final fantasy xiii au and taekey we got married au. very fun

💙 the reason i started my patreon in the first place was so i could save up monie to go to brain therapy and then physical therapy and so far it has paid for that and i have been able to save up for future appointments whenever the plague ends and because of that i've been able to keep writing fics for fun and me time without getting turbo anxious about it so even if you just show up for one month and speedread four years all at once and then dip i will still appreciate you giving me your monie : )
