She is finally done :D

Between weather, work and initially buying the wrong supplies ( don't be like me, know the difference between wood glaze and varnish) getting the wheel set up took way longer than expected but now I am quite proud of the outcome.

She is an Ashford Traveller 3 if anyone is interested :3

Fun fact! I drove 3 hours with my mom to get this spinning wheel. I have absolutely no idea how old she is but she was hand made by someones uncle. I call her Oma since that's whats etched into the lazy Kate that I also got from the nice old lady who sold it to me.

Bit of a different post, but I have this tiny spinningwheel:

It was made by my great grand uncle, but has since lost its flyer and bobbins. The space in between the leather pieces is 7 centimetres. Does anyone know a place that makes such size flyers and bobbins?

I would love to make this spinningwheel complete again, as it is an amazing piece of skill made by a very talented ancester of mine (who also made one of my normal size spinningwheels). Here is the wheel compared to a piece of a4 paper:

Plying the ball from earlier. My wheel is sorta the only thing I can ply it on, but I also can't treadle it without way too much pain. I was trying to spin the wheel by hand but oh my god, it wasn't working at all. Partly bc the way this wheel was designed, it can't actually use the smallest whorl at correct tension. (You also can't use all 3 lazy Kates, as one is too close to the wheel 🙄) anyway, I replaced it with just worsted weight cotton yarn, and what do you know ! It not only works but spin easily and much faster than it used to with the elastic band it came with.

It sounds different now, but I don't mind, as I can at least use it for plying when my arm's not fucked.

From fleece to yarn!

The yarn is 75% Scottish Blackface / 25% Herdwick and thwacked within an inch of its life. I wanted something similar to Rowan’s felted tweed, minus the tweed and rougher. It knits up nicely but was a pain to spin because I didn’t card out all the nepps.

split up a blended top to experiment with striping colours, doing chain ply to keep the colour changes, the bring green is so pretty and all the neppy white bits were so fun when spinning the single

It's getting warmer (waaaay too early in the year x.x) and that means sitting outside and do some spinning!

Just sad that I have to work later (and tomorrow afternoon) and i can't fully relax.
