'Swing Kids fails at showing how cruel the nazis truly were'

This is a movie about german children who weren't inherently in danger by virtue of being 'the right race' whose only 'wrong-doings' were listening to the wrong kind of music and still they were constantly threatened and beat up, were forced to join the HJ to not endanger their families, one of them had his hand hurt so badly by a nazi he couldn't use two of his fingers anymore and had to teach himself to play guitar three-fingered, they were used to gather information for the Gestapo to the point the mc distrusted his best friend, they witnessed beatings and deportations and the shooting of a man on the run, the movie quite literally ends with the teenage main character being sent to what's most likely a concentration camp for dancing to the wrong music

#Are you perhaps simply desensitized by other movies which show violence as a way to entertain?#Which isn’t wrong but I think it's important to keep in mind that all of the things I just listed ACTUALLY HAPPENED #'oh they only showed the nazis beating up people' ISN'T THAT ENOUGH ALREADY #DOESN’T THAT MAKE YOU SCREAM FROM THE TOP OF YOUR LUNGS #these people could just gang up on somebody and beat them half to death #Out in the open on the fucking street #How can you think about this for longer than two seconds - let alone watch it play out on screen #And not feel absolute devastation wash over you #Besides I had to stop this movie when I started it two days ago #Because of the scene in the car where the Gestapo guy talks about mcs grandma #And sending her away 'to get better' because I absolutely couldn't think about the implications of that #Within nazi germany #Without crying #Anyway Swing Kids actually lived and died in the third reich and that's awful #But yeah maybe you're simply used to the balcony scene in Sh/ndlers L/st #Swing Kids #Brain loves movies

Heartbreaking: This German almost died bc they had to manually select Germany as their location on a German-language website, bc the default was Switzerland or Austria bc that's where the company is from

#jk but also I am always like. surprised by how surprised I am when this happens #like ok swing kitchen I get it you're fancy and from vienna however *I* wanted to order from your new store location #which you didn't let me do anyways bc you're a lying fucking bitch! >:c #I just wanna know how much their fucking burgers cost 🥲#I genuinely can't remember the last time I came across an instance of like. mindlessly browsing the web and reaching a moment #of like 'oh right Austria exists'#I mean it happens a lot with like seeing czech people talk about stuff related to the German language #which is so funny like earlier today I read an article by some radio in prague idk it was like an international intercultural thing #and it was an article in relation to a czech learning program they have for German speakers #and it was about like how to say where you're from etc. I was looking it up bc I needed the name of the castle that #'Rakousko' comes from. But like even having actively searched for the etymology of the czech word for Austria I had a short moment of like #'ah yeah Austria exists'. I think it might've even had it as the first option which would've been stunning!#Sometimes I feel like Austria is more relevant to the Czech Republic than it is to Germany #Jesus Christ we're terrible neighbours I understand why they hate us #Especially like watching Austrian broadcasts it's like. I get the feeling that Germany does get mentioned quite a bit more #than the other way around even on mundane topics #The dynamic is very much 'I hate you' - 'I don't think about you at all'

#existential crisis warning #first me and [redacted] made out for like an hour #and I marvelled at the fact how NICE it was #and nice here means I enjoyed it but in a quantifiable way while being 100% sure that it's a painlessly casual thing now #(and kill me for saying this but my ex is objectively a better kisser)#and then we went to a lecture about trauma and psychological first aid together #which was held at a synagogue by a very experienced mental health provider who is also very religious #and it was SO crazy because like... In Germany growing up with relatives who survived the Nazis is very much a minority experience #and here it's just like... he talks about growing up with severely traumatised Holocaust survivors #and everyone is just nodding along like yeah yeah don't we all know it #and then he talked about the everyday trauma of the war and how it affects ppl and it really is a million small things #and I love Israel so much for this #Like I don't think it's a stable foundation for anything - it's the opposite #But it's such a damn relief that everyone just Gets It #There is something so REAL about here #and when we were in the cab [redacted] immediately bonded with the cab driver #who proudly showed off pics on his phone of his son with nine children (while driving bc Israel)#and then he asked [redacted] if we're married and when he said no he asked - completely seriously and casually-#'oh when's the wedding then?'#and it's weird because I almost got married to my ex #and it's all... so incredibly simple #you have one small life and that is all that you have #And all the worst things that can happen on earth and all the best things can fit into it without even bending a little bit
