Well, short answer is yes! It's a little silly actually, but to you guys it seems like I just randomly stopped drawing him and moved on, but I've actually been working on multiple Miguel drawings since like, October, for different zines. Those pieces will eventually get posted too, but it'll be a while, ngl.

But yes, ya'll will get a completely different Miggy thing soon, hopefully in time for Christmas! 😊 I'm SO glad you like my Astarion stuff too, thank you so much for the kind words!

Writing Wrap Up 2023

Another weird year, to be sure. Between finishing up school, job hunting, moving out, and all sorts of family things, it's been... a really slow year. It's a feeling I keep coming back to, this feeling like I'm not doing enough. Like there's some invisible deadline that I'm failing to meet. And that failure is what's keeping me from getting any enjoyment out of the works I do finish.

But that's not really... helpful, is it? Loathe as I am to admit it, focusing on what I did accomplish makes me feel better and it is worth celebrating, I think. Darn therapy actually giving me helpful tips and advice.

Now, most of what I wrote this year I shared exclusively with friends. Tbh this is both because it's all been pretty self indulgent OC stuff ngl, but also it's niche content for my DnD characters. But both Lorna and Alexi got some really excellent pieces, and Euripheus' origin/demise piece was another one I enjoyed doing.

Except for the part where I had to write an awkward family discussion/fight. Nearly did me in.

On a different note, Alexi's AU piece clocks in at nearly 10k words, which is the longest one-shot I've ever done. Bonkers. I really just wanted to torment him, huh?

Aside from that, I've been diligently chipping away at my worldbuilding documents, each of which is wildly different in construction/layout. Mostly due to their different reasons for being, and purposes. The OI one is the least developed as of now, but I hope in the next week to really dive into (hah) the nations and make those tangible cultures. My Fading Reflections one only really needs a timeline and some loose details added here and there.

The Sun/Moon game concept expanded to having a separate NPC doc, and I'm testing out how the dialogue could theoretically sound. In Stars and Time really inspired me, and I think it'll be a fun little side project as I side eye other things.

Then my big one, the Crane Wives Analysis. It's the first time I've ever done something like that and it really gave me a deeper appreciation for a band I already adore. 20k words over the course of the year, with half of those coming in November alone when I did NaNoWriMo for the first time! Not the traditional way that event works, but I completed all my goals, so hooray!

I also did nearly half of the Whumptober prompts I picked out, and am still doing those when I feel stuck.

I don't know where this next year will take me in terms of writing. I'm starting my new job, which while extremely exciting, does raise the question of Time. I'm on my own, going to have to do all the Adult Things™, and free time is definitely going to be at a premium. It does worry me, but I'll adjust (I hope).

I would prefer it if you waited and dropped both Glass and Rose at the same time. For one I still need to get my Glass analysis done and I know Rose is going to take away the brain rot for that, but I really want to finish it. For 2 I’m still kinda dying this week and could do without the distractions (though I should be through the worst of it by Friday, so Rose would be a nice reward).

For 3, I like it when we close one story and move on to the next. The rose hype has been created, people will read it whenever it comes out. (And people should learn to have some damn patience.) I like your system for starting new fics. So I don’t think you should change it because you feel like you aren’t writing fast enough. And it’s not like there haven’t been droughts before. We got through September after all.

And 4, just do whatever you want. It’s your stories. You shouldn’t feel pressured to post them fast (you already write a ridiculous amount in such a short time span (yes this is me being jealous /j)), but I get the frustration of not meeting self imposed deadlines. If you want the satisfaction of putting something out, go for it! If you want to stick to your original plan and update at the same time, you do that.

I know it's a little ridiculous for me to put so much pressure on myself to finish things faster. in total honesty I'm just frustrated with how long glass has taken to write. my fics usually take around 9 months to write, but by the time glass is done with it'll have taken 11 months. this is dumb for me to be upset with myself over though because I didn't take a nearly month long trip to europe while writing my other ones, and I've also just taken a lot of trips in general this year and have also had a LOT of shit going on in my real life that's kept me busy. so it's understandable I know but my brain just likes to be mean to me sometimes about this stuff

since hearing your feedback I'll probably wait, but we'll see how I feel once I finish the rose chapter. also while I know what's going to happen in the glass epilogue I haven't actually, uh, written out an outline for that. so I should do that.

Just wanted to say, Oathbringer has some really heavy themes.

I absolutly love your blog and your thoughts, and I am so excited to see your interpretations of some of the events! I really respect you analysis!

That being said, there have been times where I have had to take a break during Oathbringer. I just wanted to say that if you have to take a break, return the book, and then come back to it later, that is okay! We will all still be here later!

It's actually been really interesting for myself too because at my first readthrough I didn't think that much about kaladin (since I was too busy kissing the floor shallan walks on lol), I mainly dismissed my mixed feelings towards him due to the reluctant hero archetype he embodies that I don't really like. it's only after the end of wor (that fucking moash scene 😭) that I went slightly feral for his arc. *slaps his left ass cheek* this bad boy can fit so many parallels.

now I can actually pinpoint *why* Kal is my least favorite pov character (cuz I'm afraid that hasn't changed lol)! which is cool. I was a bit nervous at first since my interpretation of him isn't necessarily the most charitable (especially considering this is literally a kaladin sideblog 💀) but I'm glad that people seem to agree or at least find it interesting <3 I really love it when people somehow engage with my analysis (tags, answers, asks, rbgs, etc, be it to agree or disagree) and I do try to always respond (though sometimes it takes a bit bcs i need to translate word vomit into sth actually coherent or I haven't really thought about it before)

I have also been told multiple times by now that I need to read row, which I am hyped about !! ^^

the two weeks are actually because I'm listening to everything on Libby, and you can't really extend the stormlight books because they are so popular. with words of radiance for example (which I bought, bc for some reason that is the only book in the series that isn't available at my library??) I took about a month I think, so almost double that haha

but I thought it over and I'm probably gonna either make a free trial run at bookbeat or sth so I can listen to it with more calm or just straight up buy it as well. rushing through oathbringer specifically will probably be no good rip

I've actually recently discovered popcorn thrillers so I'm taking breaks from oathbringer by reading some relaxing *checks note* patricide and child kidnapping!

Amber: Something you learned from writing your wip

I don't know if this means "writing lesson I learned" or "something I researched when writing" so I'm going to answer both.

Writing lesson I learned: making a schedule can be to my benefit! A big thing I have struggled with forever is needing to write in order, which was still true here but I used to be,,, physically incapable of moving on to the next chapter until the one I was on was finished. Which is why writing a chapter could take me anywhere from a couple of days to several months. However, for ASMLP I've told myself "this book needs to be done by March 1st" and mapped out in my calendar what I would need to do to achieve that. As a result, if I hit the deadline for a chapter and it's not done? I make myself move onto the next and come back to it when I have a second. It's been really helpful in helping me crank this book out ngl.

Something I researched: Slime molds! Mostly for the prologue, though it's mildly applicable to the rest of the book. They're funky organisms for sure.

Jasper: What is your antagonist’s greatest strength / weakness

As mentioned here and here, I don't write many human antagonists. Not at the moment, anyway. The closest one I can think of is Scholar Selene. I'd say her greatest strength is her cunning. When you get to be 500, you've seen a lot of things and she's had a lot of time to help refine the Scholars of the Lost and how she can enact her goals. However, her biggest weakness is her need for everything to go exactly how she planned it. She's got a massive control problem and any deviations from her plan can set her off.

We were talking to our teacher a few days back and trying to persuade her to plan a school trip to some other state or an amusement/water park. Covid is shit, we cannot go anywhere as of now :(( We went to a water park but that was three to four years ago and I wanna go again with my new classmates but it's too cold and I don't wanna get sick lol. So amusement park is my choice for now. We once went to like a movie trip and it was pretty cool too. I prefer trips to amusement parks over and any trip to water parks or to the movies because I love rides lmao. Movies are great too but I don't watch movies or dramas a lot so yea
