so i just watched kyoden (my first tousute) and this is what i’m understanding so far

had a very strange dream in which (in very simplified terms cause wtf dream) yuichi had done something he thought was right but was frowned upon by the gov't (I don't know what it was but he still believes he did the right thing) so he was kind of in hiding in his own citadel as some gov't dudes came to look for him.

But then Houchou comes running in in a panic to tell Ookurikara and Tonbokiri that apparently "the government guys" were doing some kind of spooky ritual with Yuichi and it looked really dangerous

So like naturally a bunch of toudans go up to stop them but then it becomes pretty clear that these bitches aren't with the government (although it remains unclear who they actually are) and manage to fend them off (which is difficult bc they've got like. Spiritual threads all connected to Yuichi and are using them/him/his powers against the toudans :( but eventually they do get him back but he's like...fucked up, very much so physically (he's gonna have a lot of nasty scars from whatever ritual they were doing) and also mentally bc a) fear induced by the ritual process (they were not careful with his spirit at all lol) and b) sort of seeing/feeling himself fighting against his men

Eventually this ...amalgamation between Shrek and Mr. X from Resident Evil 2 shows up and is like "I know how we can obliterate those guys who did this to you all" and so we go do that (it's a very strange scene I can't even describe it)

And then after that's all done we beg mister ShreX not to go but he's like "I must..." And so he just leaves LOL

I think I woke up about that point

Very different from the dream I had the previous night where I worked at a big grocery store and there were random toudans there, but like, in a human form (?) it wasn't the myu or sute actors but they worked in the store, and the store had things around like signs with "these strawberries perfect for your honmaru!" Like... There was a tkrb theme with it all but I sat down with the genji bros and was like "nobody here knows what any of this means do they" and they're like "nope"

Hasebe was also there.

Who is your favorite Kasen artist, or just tkrb in general. Any recs?

of course it's homerun ken

#1 is obv promineco (knsd-centric, draws insane surrealist contexts + psychologically thrilling manga, scratches my izukase itch. a fanartist after my own heart). then there's ichiya (knsd/izukase + myu. very cute comic plots), midorimen (rlly good hosokawagumi + sanadagumi + kobizen. pixiv), CUBE (some of the best blushing kasens ever. has tousani), ponzu (kasen and osayo fluff <3), en (mainly kasen + aoe. i'd die for that painting style)

and some others: TKC (recurring tosa-gumi, rlly cool illustrations and even cooler animatics!!!), raden (their illustrations w all the swords gathered !!!!), yuuki (swords-hugging-konnosuke series. random sword thirst traps. hasebe suffering ig), tancho (kunihiro kyoudai + kanesada-ha fluff), datou (odagumi + morigumi + kurodagumi. fudou is slowly climbing in my sword rankings)

impressions on the big tkrb update

PROS:

++ more visible info (fatigue status!!!, max stats when refining, base stats during duties)

+ cleaner looking interface

+ i can change my saniwa and honmaru name!!! after months of telling people "if you wanna see me in pvp my name is sora and my status is 'myu kasen when' ok don't forget" THEY CAN RECOGNIZE ME EASILY BECAUSE I'M SANIWA MONOCOTS NOW. I CAN BE MY TRUE SELF!!

++ overall UI navigation takes fewer loading screens / fewer clicks to get from one part of the game to another - there's just a bit of a learning curve to it

CONS:

- less colorful UI, it's a little too clean in that respect

- weird and unintuitive minor design choices (reversing the colors of "formation advantage" and "formation disadvantage," some buttons and stats should be bigger/more visible bc they're important but aren't)

- tiny tiny text (this one is en-specific; the spaces were meant to fit jp text and the en translation text had to be shrunk to fit. OR the en translations could have been shortened even if they aren't literal)

im excited, tkrb is truly dear to my heart but also like. bruh. you gonna release touken ranbu riotousdanceofblades in the year 2021? tkrb whos major updates since its 2015 implementation include different coloured fonts as a major ‘ui update’? a 1.7x speed mode FIVE YEARS in? its core gameplay strats being making your eyes glaze over as you watch the same slightly faster power point presentation? man i wish i knew what was going on in your head tkrb execs and i wanna be on whatever the fuck you guys are on truly you must live in mindless bliss

Touken Ranbu 2.5D Cafe

Last winter I went to Japan and visited the TKRB 2.5D cafe in Osaka! This is a rly overdue report but I decided that it was better late than never LOL. Sry for the bad pic quality >< These were taken via mobile phone so they’re not the best...

Pictures and report under the read more. Warning, this is super long!!

Entrance to the cafe. Through the window you can see the photo booth machines :3c I got 2 sets of photos (myu 1 and 3, sorry myu 2!!) Each set cost ¥1,000 and you get 1 physical printed photo and 2 codes for high quality mobile background versions ^^ It was really cool because we could choose to take a pic with all the cast members or multiple shots with the SAME cast member LOL. If anyone is interested I could upload the pictures I got.

After taking our shoes off at the entrance, there was a walkway that led up to our tables. At the end, there was a giant wall with the actor’s signatures.

To either sides of the dining area they had these set up to view and take pictures. One side had Mikazuki and Kogitsunemaru’s Itsukushima Jinja live outfits. The other side had Kashuu’s solo performance outfit and props. The program book has cast member signatures.

With a purchase of a ticket we got 1 meal set and a complimentary drink. Each extra drink cost about ¥700 (I don’t remember the exact price...) Also we got a coaster with every drink... which is why I have a lot of drink pictures LOL, my friend and I were rushing to try and get more drinks for coasters aksdfjhkapff.

Aaand that’s it! After I finished eating we went to the public area. This was on the other side of the dining area and they sold snacks as well as official myu/stage merchandise. I do not really remember what snacks were available but I think it was takoyaki and shaved ice... I was too full to try any of them but I just remember them smelling good. In the merch area they sold literally everything LOL. Bromides, program books, pen lights, tote bags, and even toothbrushes??! You name it, they had it! I ended up buying a ton of bromides and a door curtain of Kogitsunemaru. In addition, there was also a VR area where you could watch the VR performances (the same stuff that is on PSVR). And finally... the real money grabber for me was the gacha machines alskdjfkalpff >< They had several button gacha machines of every play and my friend and I got our wallets sucked dry from them LOL. I can post pictures of what I grabbed on a separate post if anyone is interested.

P.S. I know that afterwards (from when I went) they also added a UFO machine with merch from the 3rd stage.

[ QUESTIONS FOR MUNS. ]

2. is it hard for you to write with characters you don’t know/don’t know well?

it can be! and i used to struggle with that a lot, and still do sometimes, but if i am comfortable enough talking to the mun then it's usually not much of an issue! especially here with tkrb there are a lot of swords (especially ones who haven't been in anime/myu) that i don't know, but my fellow handful of tkrb roleplayers are chill so 👍

13. what themes/motifs do you hope other people notice most about your character?

UM... I'm a little dumb i'm not sure how to answer this 😭 I don't know that I think about that, like if other people will notice them or not? I think ... if I am thinking about themes/motifs it's more for my own self to kinda make sure i'm channeling them the way i want?? HMMM

im really enamored by myu wtf i really didnt expect it cause i dont care for irl idols very much but the fucking opening scene and all the swordfights and the extra careful characterisation of every single character and the lore dumps i was so enamored and the historical aspect, as usual for tkrb, was fucking delightful sauce that is so good to get lost into
