I find the demonization of Demeter in supposedly feminist retellings of the Hades and Persephone story thoroughly fascinating because she was actually the myth's protagonist

A lot of retellings focus on the "lovebirds" but the myth was moreso focused on Demeter's quest to bring her daughter home than any romance they might've had. In fact, the original source material is entitled "Homeric Hymn to Demeter"

It followed the goddess of harvest searching desperately for the whereabouts of her kidnapped daughter, enlisting the help of deities and mortals alike along the way, and eventually forcing Zeus himself to come to a compromise through sheer stubborness and pure love for her child

An interpretation I really like is that the tale is an allegory for mothers in Ancient Greece whose daughters were taken away from them to be married off without them having any say in the matter

Putting all that aside, I'm really curious as to what prompted people to portray Demeter as a control freak who doesn't want to see her daughter happy with the one she loves when originally, she was simply a mother who fought tooth and nail to see her Persephone returned to her

Howdy, sorry to bother. I was wondering if you could speak to the longevity of Demeter’s perfumes. Particularly thunderstorm.

No worries, Anon!! The longevity honestly isn't great (this is widely agreed-upon about the company), but some scents are better than others.

Any light, single-note fragrances of theirs will do much better when layered with another, more powerful base note.

However, some scents don't work at all for me—I mentioned Morocco in the tags of that one post, but I actually meant Cuba, as Morocco is gorgeous but functionally disappears off my skin within minutes.

Thunderstorm is an intense scent with a powerful kick of ozone, so it has some of the best staying power out of the Demeter scents I've tried. It does especially well when intensified by something like Dirt or Bonfire, or when layered over a more complex, "fragrance-y" fragrance like Firefly (which is fairly complete on its own and stays quite well).

Some scents have decent longevity but may quickly lose important notes, depending on your skin chemistry (as with all fragrances, tbf). e.g. Pumpkin Spice Latte is delightful, but scents tend to dry down really sweet on me, so it loses the coffee note relatively quickly.

I always apply much more of my Demeter fragrances than any other fragrance, because the sillage may at first be powerful for some (Thunderstorm is one), but it will wear off pretty quickly, so you won't choke anyone. I like to apply unscented lotion on my pulse points before spritzing, and to slip a travel atomizer of my base note for the day in my purse.

I def recommend Thunderstorm, even if you're concerned about longevity! If you'd like, I've found the most economical way to experiment with Demeter is to get a few half-oz splash colognes within the same scent family (and some inexpensive glass-bottled travel atomizers—it's just that Demeter's splashes are cheaper than their sprays). Then you can play around with layering for complexity and longevity.

Firefly, New Zealand, and Wet Garden make a good base for Thunderstorm. (Wet Garden is ofc slightly floral, so it's more "feminine" than most Demeter aquatics, which are usually unisex.)

Thunderstorm can intensify Rain and be intensified by Dirt.

Great Barrier Reef is a very bright, pure, "blue" (vs. green), cologne-y/masc aquatic that likes a kick of Thunderstorm.

Bonfire and Thunderstorm are a fun combo too.

Salt Air and Petrichor are also nice aquatics but are much softer than Thunderstorm.

The way Hestia and Demeter have no recorded nurses or foster parents and Hera has THREE different sets of those. The Mommy Issues is so strong in her

Y'know, it is ostensibly really weird that more Demeter demigods aren't supremely powerful like Meg is; because this is a setting where "more ancient=more powerful", hence why the big three kids are such a big deal. But fun fact, of Rhea and Kronos' six children, the daughters are all older than the sons. And while Hestia is divinely chaste and Hera, due to her position, has only ever had fully divine children with Zeus, Demeter has demigod kids. Like they control plantlife and probably a bit of the earth as well, you know how prevalent that stuff is? Also Demeter once nearly ended all life on earth in an apocalyptic winter, so yeah Demeter kids should largely be on the same power scale as Meg.
