as an epic fan, can we stop tagging our posts with stuff like #the odyssey or #odysseus? i’m not particularly into the original epic, but it clogs up the tags for the people who are. epic and the odyssey are not the same thing. we have #epic the musical, #epic odysseus and things like that.

also using just #athena or #zeus for gods instead of #epic athena or #zeus epic. we’re stuffing up the tags for actual greek mythology enthusiasts and hellenic polytheists with our epic shenanigans.

why are we taking over these tags for things that are almost completely different 😭

Been having thoughts about things for my Odyssefish universe that I don’t think will ever be brought up in any comics but they’re randomly important to me so I’m going to share some of them here :]

1 . My Zeus has face blindness after he gives birth to Athena and his chorus guys sometimes helps him figure out who he’s talking to/about when he gets confused.

2. Poseidon and Triton wrestle with each other in their free time. They say it’s sparring to keep their skills sharp but everyone knows they’re just play fighting

3. Telemachus picks up birdwatching as a hobby. He used to use it as an excuse to explain where he was when he looked out for his dad’s ships coming home but at some point he begins to legitimately enjoy birdwatching.

4. My design for Polyphemus still an eye because Apollo and Asclepius work to regrow it. He takes different potions to try to regain some of his vision but doesn’t like it because he feels they’re not working (this is why ody has to convince him to take his medicine)

5. Odysseus’s natural eye color is actually the brighter blue that he has after his transformation. The slightly darker cornflower color is a result of Athena’s influence (but it’s purely cosmetic, no magic eyes a la Diomedes)

6. Amphitrite receives a shawl from Penelope and to this day brags about her girlfriends amazing weaving skills whenever someone sees her wearing it

7. Menelaus complains a lot about Ody always having people in his tent during the war. It bothers him because it’s hard to keep track of where people are if they’re not in the right tent and he’s completely oblivious that it sounds like he’s calling Odysseus a whore every time he whines about it. 8. Hera’s peacock Typhon despises Zeus and will attack him on sight. Hilariously the same bird has a major crush on Zeus when he’s in swan form

ᯓᡣ𐭩 everyone on olympus was shocked to receive the new about hera and zeus the queen and king of the gods has gotten a divorce. at first no one believes it thinking zeus would never let hera go but everyone was stunned when they found the truth.

ᯓᡣ𐭩 no one knows what really happened, or they do but they don't know what happened THIS time. did zeus cheat again? but if that is the case why she's leaving just now? and how did he agree to this? overall, no one else was in the room where it happened (get this reference please)

ᯓᡣ𐭩 what shocked them more than hera actually remarry again after a while from this whole mess and this time she marry a small goddess who was living on olympus, you!

ᯓᡣ𐭩 they all accept zeus to absolutely crash out, but he didn't.. which is weird..

ᯓᡣ𐭩 after marrying hera the goddess of marriage and family all of Olympus notice your hate and rage toward zeus. everyone assume it's just because he's hera ex husband or because he treated hera wrong, but ohh they were so wrong about it

ᯓᡣ𐭩 you see, you were small goddess living on olympus who had the misfortune on getting the unnecessary attention from the king of the gods. he try approaching you, but you held high respect of hera and couldn't do this to her, so you refuse thinking maybe that'll stop him. but ohh you were so wrong.

ᯓᡣ𐭩 everyone recognize you after that. you were one of zeus many victims who he force himself on them. typical of zeus, so no one really blamed you for hating him, not even his own children stand with his actions.

ᯓᡣ𐭩 away from hating zeus everyone also recognize you from your love to your wife hera, unlike most gods here you were actually so loyal to her and even went as far as punishing anyone who dare to flirt or even approach you in romantic way, after all your heart belongs to hera and hera alone.

ᯓᡣ𐭩 and hera was the happiest she ever was in her immortal life, even sometimes you need to sit down and assure her you only ever loved her and that what it will be like for eternity. i mean let's give hera a break, she was never treated life ever since she got with zeus.

ᯓᡣ𐭩 even if hera wasn't the queen of the gods anymore everyone respect her as she is, even if she's not wife of zeus thay doesn't mean she'll lose her place or respect between the other gods. she's a goddess in her own well.

ᯓᡣ𐭩 all hera kids loves you and i mean LOVES you, ares, hebe, Eileithyia and even Hephaestus. even if you're not their biological mother they all held high respect for you for loving their mom and giving her what she deserves.

ᯓᡣ𐭩 ares would be awkward at first but he'll be more than happy to see his mom happy even if it's not with his father. hebe and Eileithyia would go as far as calling you mom and you absolutely cry when they first call you their other mother, Hephaestus isn't even zeus child so he'll like you for being chill.

ᯓᡣ𐭩 of course certain someone didn't like that his children calling his ex's new wife mother but what will he do about it? he has way more children to worry about.

ᯓᡣ𐭩 non to say hera's peacocks absolutely adore you just as much as she did, always having one in your lap as you enjoy nice tea with your amazing beautiful wife.

ᯓᡣ𐭩 the other gods start liking you more, aside from the hate you show to zeus and the passion you show to your wife, you were still kind, respectful goddess which they all appreciate, for some reason some of them think you'll hate them just like hera for being zeus fertility children, but you couldn't care about anything to do with zeus.

ᯓᡣ𐭩 now back to hera, no need to say she was the BEST wife on olympus, i mean she was loyal to zeus even after everything he put her through so give her credit for that. she's loyal, loving and caring. she'd never treat you wrong in anyway, maybe she'll be a little paranoid at the first of your relationship but you don't blame her for that, don't you dare.

ᯓᡣ𐭩 kisses and cuddles are usual in your relationship, she has duties to do? don't forget to kiss her cheek before going! oh you need to do something real quick? it's fine a kiss on a head won't hurt. you're going to sleep? come on a little kiss there and there won't do nothing!

ᯓᡣ𐭩 she loves kissing your head, whenever you need to leave or doing something she place kiss on your head and tell you how much she's lucky to have you. you on the other side love kissing her hand, treating her the queen she is. whenever you're leaving or having a tea with her you hold her hand close to your lips kissing her knuckles softly then kissing her ring finger.

ᯓᡣ𐭩 you're the happiest and the healthiest couple on olympus and no one can disagree with that, even Aphrodite is your biggest supporter, love her some wuh luh wuh. will maybe expect zeus but no one gives a fuck about him right ladies?

giving the fandom an official map is playing with fucking fire, but I'm honestly enamored with it. So much so that I'm really hoping fans start creating journey charts, showing the progression of the battles in the Clone War and, more importantly, the movements of the Spectres during Rebels.

Like Bahryn is only one example but it really did surprise me just how far they went to get what Kallus baited them with on that abandoned station over Geonosis. Lira San is even further.

And like, yeah, I highly doubt they had much consideration for distance or even had a concrete idea of where everything was while Rebels was in production. I'm probably wrong about that, this is just genuinely the first time I've seen any map of the universe and I've been scrubbing through Pinterest for years looking for SW refs at this point. The implication that lack has left me with is that distance is not A Big Deal.

but it becomes a big deal once we can visualize that distance, and remember that the Spectres are broke as hell and at times have to turn off literally everything but life support to stretch their resources as far as they can go. That knowledge paired with the absolute roadtrip they have to make down to Kallus' honeypot, it feels like these two things should be at odds. Like goodness, maybe they made a ~mistake~

I'm being sarcastic. I'd much rather take this new information and find creative ways to fold it into what we already understand about the characters, their motivations and their opposition.

The Empire is massive and seemingly invulnerable; it makes sense that the holes in their armor would be few and far between, and that the Rebellion isn't in a position to be choosey about where they make their strikes.

To stay out of the Empire's hands, the Spectres had to be unpredictable, more so as the series goes on, so it makes sense that they would go out of their way to strike where they're least expected.

Hera's convictions are iron clad, more so if she's willing to go literally anywhere Ahsoka points her to. It's Hera's intellect, her understanding of the universe and the capabilities of her crew and ship, that allows her to stretch their meager resources thin enough to make these missions happen, regardless of where they're at in the Universe.

all this is to say I don't think it's a bug that the Spectres do shit all over, I think it's a very neat feature and I am very hopeful some superfan out there uses this new map to create a visualization of just how persistent the Spectres are in seeing to the Empire's downfall.

I'm making a mental list of things that would make me jump from a re-telling like if i was jumping from a taxi that just took the wrong direction and was heading me to other place i don't fucking know:

1. Demeter and Persephone having a bad relationship;

I don't mind if they have a rocky relationship thing going on, or if they are working on making it better. Just a mother and daughter having some problems that they can fix its fine!

But i don't like when Persephone hates Demeter or cannot stand her. Or acts like she hates going up to the underworld, because many such cases means that Demeter has been written to be the "evil one" uuuuhg.

This is actually my biggest one. I catch a glimpse of it and its an instant "NOPE!!"

On the same vein, i don't really mind if Hades is absolved from the kidnapping thing from time to time. Its cooler if the writer has the courage to hold him accountable, for sure. But having a silly Hades that stole Persephone on accident (Like the one from Punderworld!) Is also nice and funny tbh jsjdjs.

2. Misogynistic Ares

Ares? Misogynist? Are we talking about the god Father of the Amazons?

Are we talking about the god that fell in love with Aphrodite, the most girly girl in the world?

Are we talking about the god that got captured in a jar for trying to protect his mother and sister?

Are we talking about the god that killed his daughter's abuser?

Are we talking about the god that Marpeza celebrated after a battle with a feast where only the women were allowed; and thus he gained the epithet "Feasted by Woman"?

ARE WE DEADASS?!?!

That's an instant NOPE!

3. Poseidon and Amphitrite being Zeus and Hera 2.0

I didn't realized this one would be such a big one for me but it is apparently? 🤣

Is just, i don't know man.... Zeus and Hera are the ones with the rocky marriage, why make Poseidon and Amphi have a bad one as well?

Like this is not to say one cannot write their marriage as having issues, that's totally valid! Poseidon does have a pretty big wandering eye after all, and that can hurt Amphi, it can be juicy.

The problem is that very much almost nothing supports the idea that Amphi is really hurt by Poseidon's wandering eye 🤣

I was actually shown the other day a passage of Amphitrite helping out one of Poseidon's demi-kids even! It was Theseus!

If you are a son of Zeus, you are lucky if Hera ignores you're existance.

If you are of Poseidon, however, that means Amphitrite is your mom #2.

So yeah, she couldn't care less and i think it is due to the nature of the ocean life in itself. Monogamy is weird in nature and even weirder in the seas! Amphitrite is the literal sea goddess so of course she'll be more familiar with that kind of lifestyle.

I don't know, it sometimes feels like authors are trying so hard to make Amphi's life misserable just as Hera's when "Open Marriage" is just as much of an explanation lol.

I just dislike it when writers try to make of Amphitrite and Poseidon the Zeus/Hera 2.0

Their relationship is not meant to show the complexities of Zeus and Hera. That's why Zeus and Hera already exists.

Poseidon and Amphitrite are meant to be seen as a team. Poseidon makes the waves rowdy, and causes the natural disasters, while Amphitrite stills the waters, and makes everything calm and flourish. They are literally the high and low tides, they need each other for the sea to function properly!

They are not each other's foil like Zeus and Hera! Contrary, they together represent the equilibrium of the marine ecosystems!!

4. Dumb-Blonde-Aphrodite

Aphrodite may be a lot of things but she is not DUMB.

This specific representation of her as being the steriotypical air-head girl who only cares about make-up is so BLERGH (and also that steriotype on itself is so fucking misogynistic uuuhg)

"But the golden apple-" HERA AND ATHENA DESTROYED TROY JUST FOR THAT APPLE AS WELL. THEY ARE NOT DUMB FOR IT, ARE THEY?!

Aphrodite is an ancient being, she's still a goddess, and she is goddess of LOVE too, not just beauty! NOT JUST BEAUTY.

Love is such a complex thing and it makes me so mad when Aphrodite is represented as someone who's "Not that Deep"

It also gets me going when people blame Aphrodite for the start of the Troyan war. I thought we were clear that the Troyan war was one of those fated events where there is no guilty people. It was something that would have happened either way.

(Besides, Paris really choose to have Helen when he could have choosen total world domination. Paris was also ALREADY married to another girl by the time he decided he wanted Helen. How the fuck is that Aphrodite's fault??)

what i dont understand is why we dont have more hera centric fics in pjo. to me, she is such an interesting character that can be taken down so many different routes. all we see of her is a jealous and vicious side which, fair, but is also just one facet of her abilities and personality.

hera actually does quite a lot for the demigods and the olympian pantheon as a whole. and she is a lot more forgiving towards the demigods than one would assume based off her fanon depictions. i think many forget to keep in mind that she is the goddess of family, even if she herself might not be happy about how her family is/looks/acts, which definitely influences her actions in the series. she is quite instrumental in both wars, and to me, believing that the 2nd gigantomachy started bc of her is just zeus propaganda (though his pjo characterization is FAR from his title as god of justice, so i am not a fan of him in the series (traditional zeus is much more multifaceted to me)).

she fucks with annabeth a lot, but one: she’s a god, and two: the beef is mutual, so i truly believe that hera just fucks with her for the love of the game, and as she’s a goddess might not understand when she’s taking it too far for a mortal. and this doesn’t disregard the crazy shit she’s done in pjo and the myths! but if we’re making poseidon, apollo, and hermes benevolent baddies we should see her for the good she’s done, not just the bad.

it would be awesome to see fics where hera explores her domains, which are really important ones!! she is the patron of women, there’s SO much to be explored with that. and her marriage with zeus means that she has quite literally experienced/seen most of the struggles of women tbh LMFAO. we could get fics where she works consistently with artemis as their domains overlap, maybe seeing her and thalia form a relationship? could be after jason’s death, bc i honestly think that she thought of jason as her own demigod son, and grieved for him.

she’s the goddess of family!! HUGEEEEE. i mean, there’s so many options with that. maybe her power was weakened during the war with kronos bc that’s her father? maybe each solstice she gets stronger because her family is all together. maybe her and jason getting closer, and by extension her and the demigods in general get closer. she’s not their godly parent! she can intervene a lot more than their parents can. it would be cool to see fics where the demigods realize she’s the goddess of family and can be their patron goddess in a way. (though i do love percy ascension fics where he becomes their patron)

one of my favorite fics is i used to float, now i just fall down by pupscotch, where juno was the one cursed to be mortal and not apollo, but instead of doing whatever quest jupiter gives her, she just adopts jason and makes him her trial and just tries to become the best private school mom ever. she works for a women’s organization, genuinely cares about jason, and goes through some self reflection that is so wonderful to see. its jason centric, but i feel like a lot of my opinions of how we should treat my girl are shown here!!

i just honestly love her,,, and i totally understand why her fanon characterizations are the way that they are, but i do think we should give her some more credit in how she literally saved the world.
