peyton looked at jake and shrugged her shoulders, "i mean, it's nothing like days in tree hill." she started off with a sigh and then leaned back as she looked around the room and then landed back at him. "and yet, it's even so much weirder in some ways? i love this version of red bedroom. but i've been trying to get into my head that this is my life now." she hesitated when she spoke, short of saying our life now. because it was their life now. but was it their life combined? or was that still just wishful thinking on her part? she wasn't entirely sure. "and halfway through i'm stuck thinking that if i'm here, what if someone like chris keller is running red bedroom back in tree hill? and that was just gnawing at my thoughts. so i needed a break. and that's why i made us milkshakes." peyton held the drink out to him with a smile. "so you can make fun of me all you want, but if you don't take this, you're missing out."

peyton looked at jake as he took her hands and couldn't help but shake her head, with a smile across her face. it was wide, something like when she was younger and she hadn't felt that way in quite some time. those butterflies she used to feel in her stomach were there around him too. "what are you doing, jake?" she wondered if he was feeling the same kinds of feelings she was, but she felt worried to say them out loud. what if it was this place and everything else too. she didn't want to jinx all of the feelings she knew to be true.

for all of the pain that this town was bringing her it had brought her good too. she had jake back in her life, and peyton didn't know if that would have been possible without being in this place. she had thought about it, wondered about him and jenny for years, but to actually have him in her life once more? it was something she didn't know possible until he was in front of her again. but not having brooke or haley in her life right now? to talk to about everything she didn't know what to do. she wanted her best friends to talk to. “i don't know if it'll ever be the same, but maybe it'll be …normal some day again.” peyton said with a slight shrug of her shoulders. 

jake   knew   that   plenty   of   people   in   terret's   cove   were   struggling   in   their   own   ways.   it   was   a   big   change   for   the   people   who   knew   what   was   going   on.   it   was   horrible,   waking   up   only   to   realize   that   the   people   you'd   spent   years   of   your   life   being   friends   with   had   no   idea   who   you   were.   it   was   a   new   form   of   agony.   he   couldn't   imagine   how   difficult   things   were   for   peyton,   especially.   he,   at   least,   had   jenny.   for   that,   jake   would   always   be   thankful.   “   i   get   that,   ”   he   said,   nodding.   “   i   wish   things   were   different,   too.   ”

peyton knew that this place was just where she lived now. it was yet another stop on the tour of her life, but she hoped it wasn't the forever one. she missed tree hill. for all its flaws and the drama, that place was home. she just hoped that it was still standing. though, for all the flaws and mistakes this place had? she got jake back out of it. so it couldn't be too terrible. she had never thought in her wildest dreams that she would be sitting with jake again. but here she was, and she couldn't picture it any other way. peyton was lucky, she had her memories. she also had to deal with her friends not having them, like haley and brooke. it was hard to see them like that and just expect it all to be different. "our reality from now on could be very bleak, except for that one thing." peyton replied. she was often a pessimist. the kind of person who was moreso a realist in most situations. who looked for just about any reason to not do something than to actually go for what she wanted. "we've got each other here." she let herself say it out loud for the first time. she'd said it in her head enough. but saying it out loud, that she was here with jake. depending on him. and was actually with him in some way. "i'm always here for you too, you know."

◟ ⋆ ❛ the  town  had  a  lot  of  flaws  .  he  was  well  aware  of  that  ,  as  were  countless  other  people  walking  around  .  he  was  glad  that  peyton  remembered  him  ,  though  .  she  was  the  person  in  tree  hill  he  was  closest  to  .  he  couldn't  imagine  what  it  was  like  for  someone  like  nathan  to  go  around  and  have  his  own  wife  not  remember  him  .  he  hoped  that  didn't  happen  to  himself  or  peyton  .  as  far  as  he  knew  ,  he  was  in  the  clear  .  jake  didn't  have  any  complications  with  relaying  information  about  his  life  in  tree  hill  or  georgia  .  he  knew  who  he  was  ,  where  he  came  from  and  how  long  he'd  been  stuck  in  the  town  .  he'd  even  taken  to  journaling  ,  jotting  down  little  things  in  town  he  noticed  .  he  was  adamant  on  keeping  his  mind  sharp  .  he  didn't  want  to  be  lost  .  “  hey  ,  i'm  sure  you  will  find  the  same  success   .  ”  he  knew  peyton  could  do  anything  she  set  her  mind  to  .  he  clung  to  every  word  she  said  ,  nodding  along  as  she  spoke  .  “  i  know  what  you  mean  ,  ”  he  assured  her  .  “  we  do  have  to  prepare  for  the  possibility  that  this  is  just  going  to  be  our  reality  from  now  on  .  accepting  it  is  a  lot  better  than  trying  to  fight  it  .  at  least  you  know  you've  got  me  ,  right  ?  i'll  always  be  here  for  you  ,  peyton  .  ”
