With regard to donating to fund-raisers and the analogy to panhandlers, what do you make of the difference in scale that the internet makes possible? I absolutely agree with the underlying approach — I keep $40 in my wallet so that I always have a $20 to give to panhandlers I see — but there's a limit to how many dishonest panhandlers a person is likely to run into. Internet spam and scams are of a staggeringly larger scale; for example, the head of trust and safety for Dreamwidth has put the scale of these scam networks in the millions of accounts. Obviously vetting practises help a great deal, and I think initiatives like Crips For ESims For Gaza are great, but I'm a little bit hung up on the analogy to in-person panhandling when the scale is so different.

Disclaimer: my tone may sound harsh here, I am having trouble softening my words one this right now, but I truly mean no frustration towards you and really appreciate this question as an opportunity continue this conversation in the Commons constructively

I mean. Make a budget for it?

Like. I've said this before, but given I've decided to hunker down in this foxhole, let's do it again.

All my life I've had a panhandling budget because I came from a family where you simply didn't say no to such requests if you didn't have to. But much like the tired old analogy at this point, you can't help someone else put on an oxygen mask if you've passed out because you don't have enough oxygen yourself.

So my mom told me this was one of those places in life you set a boundary with yourself. Identify how much you can actually safely reliably spend towards financial redistribution, and set it aside in cash each pay period to give out.

My mom's approach was very first come, first served. Whoever asked her, she handed out all her cash. I found that when I was trying to create a similar routine for myself that this led to a constant exposure to people I couldn't serve at all. So I created "allotments". It became my routine to take out a $20 bill at my bank every pay period, and then have the teller give it to me in $5 bills. The first 4 people I met who asked for it got a fiver.

Then came the digital age. Cash wasn't the main way people asked for money anymore, and my fivers were simultaneously going farther and going nowhere at all for weeks on end, especially during the pandemic when I became largely housebound.

These days, I keep $10 cash in 2 fivers, and each pay period I restock it if it's been depleted, and add $10 to a digital distribution fund (I use money transfer apps like venmo, paypal, and cash app for parking this money until expenditure). My allotment is still the same, $5/ask. During low-density ask periods, I will donate my "excess" at the end of a 3month period to a bail fund or prison penpal program, and if there IS no excess, it's because I was able to distribute the funds myself.

They're not big donations, but a lot of the time I've been able to make them recurring. Obviously, genocide upon genocide upon pandemic upon genocide has meant that I rarely have excesses, and many asks have to go unanswered by me. At least if I want to keep my own household alive and well. And I've been told in the past that some even prefer getting my repeat small petty cash funds over getting larger one time donations.

It's still hard to be constantly exposed to desperate asks you can't answer, but when you treat it like a sustainability thing (this is a thing I can continue doing indefinitely vs this is a thing I can only sometimes do without hurting myself).

Like any budget, sometimes things get tight. Mine has been bigger and smaller at times and there have even been deeply painful periods where my budget was, legitimately, $0. But once that changed, I was right back to it.

Donnie heard the song playing over your personal speaker in the garage when he was heading back to his new project on the shell-raiser with a fresh cup of coffee.

intrigued, he wasted no time heading over, leaning against a tool box and just listening along as you moved to the music while taking a break from the engine you were rebuilding.

when the lyrics finally seeped through the caffeine fugue he's battling, he sets the coffee aside, sliding into your space and seamlessly integrating himself into your dance.

Pulling a laugh out of you was his goal, but he soon found himself pulling you closer as the chorus hit, curling into your space to tuck his beak close to your ear, one hand cupping your joined hands to his pectoral scute and the other dangerous low on your back.

needless to say Raph, who was trying to fit a new muffler to his motorcycle, took one look over at the pair of you and hastily beat a silent path out of the garage.

Donnie waited until he heard the bolt in the main door click into place before he tipped you backwards into a steep dip and slanted his mouth over yours.

now it's a staple in the safe garage music playlist, and Donnie never fails to pause his project and come find you when he hears the opening bars.

It wasn't often Raph could catch you singing while cooking, usually you were much too aware of your surroundings to let loose while others were listening

This time though he got lucky, and took adbantage of his ability to blend in to simple watch and listen for a bit, slowly smiling when he realized exactly which song you were singing

he wated until you had moved awat from the oven, stretching upwards to reach a bowl on the top shelf, before he slotted in behind you and slide a large hand across your hip right as you sid the word "scream"

he didn't get a scream, but that was ok, because he was far more interested in tipping your head back and slotting his mouth over yours. there was plenty of other noises he was interested in hearing, after all.

by the time whatever was in the oven got done baking, he'd parked you on a counter and gotten drunk off exploring what your tongue felt like against his. he didn't want to stop to get whatever it was out, it was only our promises to stay 'right there, sweetheart' that finally got him to save the casserole from a burnt end

even weeks later, whenever the song pops up from your playlist, you catch him giving you a lopsided smirk, a silent promise to get you alone soon

Leonardo (Drop Dead Beautiful)

Leo was just trying to get his tea and get back to his book when he heard the opening lines to the song in your lilting voice and froze, eyes searching for you, surprised because he didn't even know you had come down for a visit.

when he found you in the living room, cleaning what looked like Mikey's mess from the previous night while singing, his first thought was to go find his little brother and inflict damage for leaving trash on the floor

but then you turned, and he froze for a completely different reason when you leveled a game controller in his direction and started singing to him.

You got butterflies going crazy in this turtle's chest, almost made him drop his tea, frozen in place as you danced closer and tried to coax him into joining you. He's only gonna agree after making sure no one is paying attention, but eventually he'll put the tea down and take your hand when you openly start pouting at him

Leo might be the pretty boy of his brothers, but he'll never believe any of them could be considered beautiful. He knows enough about you though to know you would never lie to him, especially on this, so really he's just confused, sky, bashful but willing to believe you're singing this song about him. Might even get him to chuckle if you start dropping whenever you get to the part that goes "drop dead- drop dead- dr-drop dead."

It becomes a little secret between the two of you, where you can make his skin turned mottled just by running your hand over his carapace in greeting and dropping the line "what's up, beautiful," in his ear. He absolutely loves it, but the real fun will be saying it in a whisper when his brothers are around. Then, you'll get a contemplative, squinty eyed look. Just be aware he's plotting revenge and it will 100% be in his favor.

Michelangelo (Hush Hush: Don't be Shy)

Mikey would be the one to turn on the music whenever the two of you are cleaning the kitchen, bopping fast through his music until he hits one and clocks the way your hips start shimmying in the corner of his vision. He already knows you love this song, maybe he's secretly hoping to get a show out of putting it on for you.

It's a quick song, but just long enough for you to get into the groove of singing it and moving in a simple dance with the mop, and Mikey shadows your notes, following along while he tosses clean hand towels into the drawer and cheers you on. When it ends he sticks his tongue out at you and you laugh when you realize its looping back around to the beginning once more.

When the pair of you are done cleaning, Mikey wastes no time taking you in his arms, not caring about the still damp floor underneath your feet or the way your singing is breaking up from the giggles. If anything, this is his favorite part.

If his brothers need anything from the fridge they'll have to dance around the pair of you, because Mikey's not letting you go until he gets at least a solid ten minutes of dancing, no please babycakes, just once more, Raph can totally wait to get to the cupboards don't mind him-

totally steals kisses in between spinning you around, smooches, long presses of his mouth against yours, goading "hush hush don't be shy" if you try and pull away before he gets his quota for the dance.

I feel like we got so wrapped up in the sword af announcement that we never talked about the cards against humanity video that came out Friday too. Honestly that might be my new favorite cards against humanity video (although the one where Damien and Angela just keep giving each other points holds a special place in my heart). It was so funny and all the cards were so good and of course we had some good Damien and Angela interactions. Including but not limited to Damien making fun of Angela’s funny faces and saying he wants to try to throw some coins in there and also just being like “that’s a new one” lol. Also obsessed with the fact that the only point Damien got was the my stinky pussy card especially with how much Angela loved it lmao. A question I've been half-pondering since you posted some of your thoughts of G-Witch -- are there any series that you think do particularly neat things with design lineages (either aesthetically or otherwise)?

Obviously in G-Witch, you've got this lovely variety in mobile suit design, with each corporation having a different, easily-identifiable style. But there's also things like how both styles of 'suit in Gundam Wing (Gundams and Leos et al) trace back to Tallgeese, so you have a 'progenitor' mecha running around.

Oooh, that is a fun one. Off the top of my head I can think of around two series that do really interesting things with Mobile Suit Design Lineages, Mobile Suit Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans and Mobile Suit Gundam 00, but Gundam Wing, Witch From Mercury, SEED and the Universal Century in General all have examples worth discussing.

Note: I hit the character limit here, so this post’ll just be part one, and contains my thoughts on 3/4 of the main units in 00. I’ll talk about the fourth and other series in a subsequent post.

Admittedly, most of these are the titular Gundam’s design lineage, but there’s enough grunts that are worth discussing too.

First of all, Gundam 00

I’ll fully admit the above graphic is overkill for what I’m going to actually be discussing, but I think the design lineages of the four main Gundam’s is very very good, because each unit is clearly delineated into a speciality. (I’m gonna define them by their Third Generation Entry, since that’s the ones in the first season of the show).

Exia - Blue, with a focus on close quarters combat (I.E. Swords, to the point its original developmental code was “Seven Swords”).

Dynames - Green, with a focus on long range and sniping.

Kyrios - Orange, a transforming mobile suit that has high mobility.

Virtue - Black and White (sometimes with purple), Initially seems to be the Heavy Weapon Gundam, then later you realise it’s just full of absolute bullshit. It’s great I love it.

The second season, movie and side manga all add to this development line, so you can see how each concept develops over time. It also provides alternate equipment options for the main units, variants on a theme if you will. (I’m going to ramble a lot here, so I’ll identify which unit I’m talking about in bold).

Exia, for example, is the melee Gundam, one of two Gundam’s designed to primarily deal with any traitors to Celestial Being (I should do an analysis post on 00 sometime……, anyway). It accomplishes this by incorporating weaponry specifically designed to get around GN defences which, at the time of its inception, is unique to celestial being (this is why it’s got solid swords in addition to beam weapons). Its immediate predecessor, the Astraea, is probably the most stable of the original second-generation gundams - it’s designed for melee combat and doesn’t incorporate much experimental systems into the mobile suit itself. Because of this stability, it’s typically used for testing weaponry slated for other Gundam’s, such as the proto GN Launcher. This is further evidenced when it’s modified into the Astraea F by the Celestial Being support organisation Fereshte, since it’s the mobile suit of choice for that organisation when circumstances don’t demand a different unit, again because of that versatility. The Exia’s successor is the 00 Gundam (which I habitually just roll into the 00 Raiser, since it’s only around for about three episodes). The 00 Gundam is fitted with two GN Drives instead of the standard one, which should give in a far greater output. In practice, it needs to be fitted with the 0 Raiser, a little stabilisation plane thing, in order to run stably. This becomes the standard loadout for the Gundam, and it becomes the 00 Raiser. The 00 Raiser has slightly less swords than its predecessor the Exia, but makes up for this by incorporating the Raiser Sword, which essentially turns the entire Gundam into a sword hilt. The 00 Gundam’s Variants, the 00 Seven Swords and XN Raiser are essentially the 00 Gundam with even more swords and bladed weapons bolted to the frame (I’d like to specifically call out the Seven Swords for having GN Katars, which is just neat, honestly). As Setsuna’s penultimate suit, we have the 00 Quanta, which dares to ask the question “laser-shooting psychic swords?”, and can also freely teleport, just in case you thought distance was going to make this easier. The 00 Quanta Full Saber is probably what you’d expect by this point - the 00 Quanta with a bunch of extra swords strapped to it. (The ELS Quanta’s not, strictly speaking, a combat Gundam, so I tend to look at it as its own thing). The Exia line starts off basic, but eventually takes the concept of “sword” to greater and more ridiculous levels.

Dynames, is a sniper, but it develops very differently to the other Gundams. The original Dynames and its successor Cherudim were developed for Neil Dylandy, an excellent sniper. However, the Cherudim and its successors were piloted by Neil’s brother Lyle instead. Lyle was not as good a sniper as his brother, and so his Gundam’s were subsequently reconfigured in order to be more effective in large-scale combat - rapid fire rifles and submachine guns as opposed to “true sniping”. So, though the line shares several visual elements and retains a focus on ranged combat, it changes with its pilot.The Dynames was armed rather simply - a sniper rifle and two pistols, with supplemental armour being added. This is likely a direct response to its predecessor, the Sadalsuud. The Sadalsuud is notable for two reasons - it was configured more as an information-gathering unit than a combat machine, and it was notably lacking in armour. The Sadalsuud F incorporated a pinpoint GN Field in order to get around this issue, but the Dynames simply incorporated more armour as a result (likely due to practicality). The Gundam Cherudim, Dynames successor, incorporated missile pods and GN shield bits in addition to its pistols and sniper rifle, with its GWHW/R pack adding GN Rifle bits to the mix, giving the Cherudim far more guns to use. Another equipment pack, the Cherudim SAGA, even went so far as to be a “Seven Guns” counterpart to the Exia’s “Seven Swords” philosophy. Lastly, there is the Gundam Zabanya, which incorporated GN Rifle Bits and GN Holster bits, casting off its original sniping specialisation for a mass battle focus. “You don’t need to be a better shot, you need to shoot more bullets”, indeed. The Dynames line shows the progression from scout, to sniper, to more sniper, to Gundam with a billion guns. This is directly due to the influence of its pilot and the difference between the brothers - Neil’s a Sniper, Lyle’s a Gunslinger and so the line is adjusted accordingly.

The Kyrios is probably the simplest to talk about, since it was piloted by Allelujah/Hallelujah Haptism and was designed to maximise its aerial profile. The Kyrios itself was armed with beam sabers, a beam submachine gun and claw shield, with various optional missile packs, typically used in quick strikes. Its immediate predecessor, the Aubulhool, was barely a mobile suit at all, being essentially a proof-of-concept for the transformation mechanism. Nonetheless, it would also be used as a quick strike craft by celestial being when required. The Arios is essentially the Kyrios but more so - it has a new rifle, and the original beam submachine guns and claw shield have now been integrated into the mobile suit itself. The GWHW/M pack gives it a missile pod and swaps the rifle out for a GN Cannon. The Arios is also unique in that it incorporates a support mech - the GN Archer, which is essentially a smaller, simpler Arios for all intents and purposes (it’s not on the chart, but it was adapted from the Gundam Artemie, the bee-looking Gundam at the top-right). The Arios Ascalon is essentially the Arios fitted with various pieces of equipment originally slated for other units - a GN sword from the Exia, missiles from the Dynames and a GN Launcher from the Virtue. This makes it far more versatile, while still retaining its excellent mobility. It’s another one I’m quite fond of, simply because I find the versatility appealing. That and I think the Arios looks good in red. The last unit in the line is the Gundam Harute - designed from the ground-up as a two-man space superiority fighter. It’s also designed to leverage the abilities of its two/three super-soldier pilots, incorporating the Marute Mode which allows its pilots to fight in-sync (it’s…. Not quite clear how it does this, but 00 runs with the “quantum innovators understanding” stuff quite a bit, so I’m not too concerned). The Harute also incorporates GN Sword Rifles, which are scissor gun-swords (fun), as well as GN Scissor bits and a nice lovely missile container on the rear. Kyrios and its derivatives are largely concerned with doing the same thing - a fast attack plane that’s also a Gundam. It’s a very good, very achievable concept, so it’s neat seeing how the line develops over time. I’d like to note that the Harute is basically a culmination of everything that came before it, but considering I’m quite fond of it, perhaps I’m a little biased there.

I’ll talk about Virtue and other series in a follow up to this post, since I managed to hit the character limit for the first time.

But in essence, I think 00 does interesting things with its Gundam Design Lineages because each unit has a specific role, so it’s interesting seeing how they develop within that role, and seeing how their pilots influence them. The vast amount of other units added in supplemental material further sheds light on the in-universe development patterns and general “goals” of each unit. Exia retains the sword focus, but takes it in more esoteric directions as Setsuna himself moves toward his awakening as an innovator, Dynames undergoes a shift from sniping to gunslinging when its original pilot dies and celestial being replaced him with his brother (which is a very weird process, now that I think about it). Kyrios basically hits the nail on the head first time with its mobility and fast attack focus, with Arios basically just adding armaments, however his eventual understanding with Marie enables the addition of the GN Archer and eventual development of the Zabanya, which raises its mobility to even greater heights. On the other side of the coin, the units seen during 00P and 00F provide context for their successors - what worked and what didn’t, and how they developed.

On Sept. 20th, 2023, my partner key is having a surgery and we need help covering the cost of the actual surgery and funds for a mattress.

We have been without a mattress for 9 months due to mold and losing a majority of our possessions, and trying desperately to save for one but we are both on fixed incomes from ssi. It feels dire to get one now due to her upcoming surgery, I know her recovery will be grueling if she is forced to recover on our couch.

My name is Baraa Al-Shorfa, I am 15 years old. We are a family of 6, my mother, father and 4 children, my youngest brother is 8 years old, since October 7, 2023, we have been suffering from a brutal war that has destroyed our dreams and hopes, and has gone beyond the limits of human comprehension. During this brutal war, we have endured hardships that mountains cannot bear. We suffer from severe water shortages, and we often walk about a kilometer to get one gallon of water, which is equivalent to about 16 liters, barely enough for five family members. We also suffer from severe food and nutrition shortages due to the blockade imposed on northern Gaza for 10 months, which prevents the entry of basic materials such as meat, vegetables and fruits. This situation has forced us to eat animal feed such as barley, which has caused us to lose weight, suffer from multiple diseases, and greatly weaken our immune systems. As a result of the war, our home and agricultural land that provided us with our daily sustenance were completely destroyed and bulldozed. We also suffered from repeated displacement, moving from one place to another and from one area to another due to the horrific and brutal bombing. We also suffer from fear and terror due to the heavy bombing, fire belts and explosives, the sound of tanks was very terrifying. In addition, we were deprived of education and the opportunity to build a future. My younger brothers suffer from skin diseases, but the hospitals, which are the lifeline for every patient and needy, were also destroyed. We face a shortage of medicines and vaccines while diseases are increasing and spreading among us, with no solution in sight as there are no hospitals or medical supplies available here in Gaza. We live in constant fear for my younger brothers because they have not received their general vaccinations, especially after the spread of polio due to the lack of cleaning supplies and the massive accumulation of waste in the streets. I also should have been vaccinated against Tetanus and Typhoid fever, but I did not receive them due to the lack of vaccinations, and sewage water flooded the streets, posing a serious threat to our children. We suffered from jaundice, where we struggled for about two weeks with fatigue, dizziness and other symptoms. It is a deadly disease, my brothers' little bodies became full of red pimples and as I mentioned before there is no treatment available due to the destruction of hospitals and health centers.

We also suffer from the absence of cooking gas, which forces us to use wood and plastic to light fires, which can lead to poisoning. We have been without electricity since October 7th, spending days in the dark, causing immense fear for my little brothers. This has also made it very difficult to charge our phones and night light batteries. We had to travel kilometers from our home to find places with electricity, which costs us a lot to charge our phones and batteries.

Moreover, we have not had a steady income since the beginning of the war.

If like me you are wondering if Palestinians run the butterfly effect project, I went to their Instagram and they post videos from people who look like they are physically in Gaza and promote their campaigns, they have a post warning off against fake campaign raisers who charge Palestinians fees, and I don’t have Instagram so I could only see a few posts but this has given me reason to believe they’re out to help real people. Finally free from model kit hell, you know what that means!!!

This absolute beast (built in 1/100 scale instead of 1/144 scale due to being a master grade) is the 00 Gundam! The second mobile suit of the main protagonist of Gundam 00 (that isn't just like a rebuild of the Exia lol)! It rocks the twin drive system - as seen mounted on the shoulders - which made it the most powerful suit by a long shot when first introduced!

Up next, the aircraft companion machine, the 0 Raiser! This is basically a fighter jet that can be piloted separately from the 00, or dock with it to make-

The 00 Raiser!! Which as the name suggests, is the two machines combined to make basically the ultimate gundam. When fully powered up, this thing has some absolutely absurd practically reality warping properties that make it pretty much completely unmatched.

And finally, the two pilots of their appropriate machines, Saji Crossroad in the 0 Raiser (on the left), and Setsuna F. Seiei in 00 Gundam (on the right) to scale with the mobile suit in question!

Gosh, all in all, a real good kit! Master grade is definitely not something I can do all the time, but MAN, is it fun to build and see all the cool little intricate details! Especially when you build the whole inner frame of these beasts, it's certainly an up in how much time it consumes to build 'em. Really good stuff, though!

I'll be returning to drawing tomorrow, and I have a really fun idea since we're getting closer to a certain holiday... >:3c

might of might not have signed up to 'introduction to probability' because the teacher is hot. she knows that she will likely fail the class, but getting to see seungjo's face every week makes it worth it.

she might not have the best academics results, but socially, she's winning. she's often participates to ANY TYPE of social activities, ranging from get togethers, to fund raisers for various causes and even simpler things like group hiking. she definitely would NOT get involved in planning things, but she's always down to participate in the activity once it happens!

Eventide Draft Booster Challenge

With every new released set, I like to make a custom booster pack of cards utilizing the themes and mechanics of the set, meant to play around with the themes and mechanics of the set, creating a pack of cards that one could reasonably expect to open in that set. You may notice that Eventide is a 15 year old set and is not quite “a new release”. I was playing around with weird -1/-1 counter designs, and that led me to some shadowmoor flavor, and I just got really enamored by the plane and decided to make a pack. (Funnily, not many of those weird -1/-1 counter designs made it into the pack, but c’est la vie.) And I had the time for it, since I’m skipping over the lord of the rings set since im not familiar enough with the material.

Shadowmoor block had a lot of pip-heavy costs, as does black in general, so I thought a card like this would be a cool way to really make you go all in on black would be a fun riff on chroma, a mechanic in the set.

Speaking of chroma. I decided to use chroma in a way that encourages you to use it with high-pip cards, not just lots of cards, by caring about individual permanents. With the hindsight of devotion now existing, this seems a good direction to take the mechanic in.

This is not a card that would have existed in eventide. Only instants and sorceries had retrace (which I recently learned is because until very late in development, retrace let you cast your lands as copies of the card, and at the time only instants and sorceries could be copied.) That’s one of the big tensions with this projects; it’s based on a challenge from GDS3, so one of the big goals is to show off and do new stuff which is hard when staying bound to the set. With retrace, I erred on doing something new.

Here’s the last chroma card of the pack. In the theme of chroma encouraging high individual pip counts, a combat trick felt like a good common usage. If you’re able to get this on something with a triple pip it’s great, but even the bare minimum of first strike and maybe +1/+0 is fine.

This card is intended as part of a cycle of “cantrips” that search for the respective basic, to play up the monocolor theme and play into retrace later in the game. This particular card also acts as graveyard hate, to combat retrace.

-1/-1 counters running willnilly around an environment tends to make things get smaller as the game goes on, when generally magic plays better if things get bigger as the game goes on, so it can come to an end. This is why we’re unlikely to see more heavy -1/-1 counter environments. This card, I hope, helps move the game along in an odd way. They have to attack with it, so even if it gets small enough that attacking isn’t worth it, tough luck. And because it hurts the creature when it hits players, you’re encouraged to let it hit you which might make the game go a bit faster. (It also means, if it’s a lil too big to kill, you can let it through and then kill it with a blocker next turn, which I think is fun)

Green -1/-1 counter cards are tough, since it’s not supposed to be good at killing stuff, but it can kill fliers no problem, so that felt like a good place to start. I also gave it the pump effect, cause its effect felt a bit niche for a common, and this felt like a good alternate mode.

This is another card looking to use -1/-1 counters to make the game faster. When it dies and comes back smaller, that allows it to target itself with its effect. Definitely a bend, but one I’m okay making.

This started as a card I made months ago, but since eventide was strictly enemy colors, I switched it to R/W, and then I didn’t quite like that, so I changed it to the double strike ability you see here which plays quite similarly.

Part of a cycle of color hate scarecrows that all wither their respective color and have a second ability that plays against that color’s strategy. I thought this limited form of wither could be a fun evolution to it, one that I could see if wither ever came back today, and color hate was the version that made the most sense with set themes.

So I have finally played my first Gundam video game and that happened to be SD Gundam Battle Alliance and I am really glad it was because playing this game give me the realization that there are good Gundam video games out there.

So, yeah, there are a lot of mobile suit to play and collect in this game. Now, personally, I find that can be the one downside to this game as well. See, once you do the main story and the DLC stories, there isn’t much left to do. The only thing you really can do is replay story missions as chaos missions and yeah it’s just going after blueprints to mobile suit you may have some but not all of or just not have yet. Some people may find that fun but I personally have already become bored of it. But that is really the only negative thing I have for this game. I definitely recommend giving this a play.
