The Phantom from 10 000 Leagues
I found this movie online while looking for From Hell It Came (which I haven’t yet found – someday I will and then you’ll all be sorry) and it looked bad, so I checked out the details.  Turns out it stars Kent Taylor from The Crawling Hand, Cathy Downs from The Amazing Colossal Man, and was written by Lou Rusoff, who was behind It Conquered the World, The She-Creature, and… oh god, he also wrote Ghost of Dragstrip Hollow.  This is gonna suck goat nads.  I must watch it right away.
You shouldn’t picture me groaning when I write stuff like that, by the way.  You should picture me giggling like a maniac and rubbing my hands together with glee.
A monster is killing people at sea near an incredibly bleak and depressing California college town, and the bodies and wrecked boats it leaves in its wake are scorched by radioactivity! Washington sends Agent Grant to find out what’s going on, and he soon discovers that the Pacific College of Oceanography is positively overflowing with suspicious characters.  There’s the reclusive and paranoid Professor King, who is working on weird experiments in his locked laboratory.  There’s King’s assistant George, who follows him around and hides in the bushes to watch what he’s doing.  King’s secretary Ethel blames the professor for the death of her son and wants revenge, and George’s girlfriend Wanda is a foreign agent.  Not to mention the visiting Dr. Stevens, a radiation expert with an unsettling habit of turning up just in time to discover the bodies.  Someone among this motley crew has created a sea monster… and someone else is planning to sell it to the highest bidder!
You know how some movies save their monsters until the last minute, in order to build suspense?  Or because what we imagine is always scarier than what we actually see?  Or because the monster sucks and they’re ashamed of it?  Or some combination of the above?
Tumblr media
Phantom from 10 000 Leagues is not one of those movies.  Before we’re even a full minute into it, the monster has appeared on screen in all its ridiculous glory.  Stevens calls it a hideous beast that defies description but I think I can make an attempt.  It looks sort of like the lovechild of a saber-toothed tiger and the Horror of Party Beach.  There’s a ridge down its head and back like an iguana and a poorly-camouflaged window in its neck so the dude inside can see what he’s doing.  The whole costume is also rather buoyant, and the actor is having to work hard to stay underwater.  Sadly, this beast remains lurking in the depths and never shambles out onto the beach to menace sunbathers, which is the only thing it would have needed to make it a perfect bad movie monster.
The creature is not the only nuclear threat in this movie… or even the silliest one!  During an investigatory dive, Stevens discovers a glowing patch on the seafloor which he says represents an ‘activated’ uranium deposit with the potential to form a naturally-occurring death ray!  We finally get to see this in action when stock footage of a ship passes over it – and turns into a different ship that immediately blows up! I’m just sad this only happens once. The glowing stone itself is represented by a mirror with a light shining on it in underwater shots, and by the reflection of the sun when seen from the surface.
Tumblr media
So the effects are not special and make an already silly threat even more hilarious.  What about the story?  Like all cheap monster movies, the focus of The Phantom from 10 000 Leagues is not the creature killing people but the investigation into it.  There’s a large number of potential monster-makers here, which could have made the movie a bit messy – but by the time the words The End appear, we know who all these people are, how they’re involved, and what they hope to accomplish.  Even the women are given distinct motivations and personalities, although those fall neatly into the ‘maiden, mother and whore’ tropes I’ve discussed in the past. The dialogue is not exactly subtle, but it seems like I can’t wholly blame Lou Rousoff for Ghost of Dragstrip Hollow.
It’s also nice that, despite the preponderance of White Men In Suits (Stevens and Grant both walk along the beach in suits and ties at all hours of the day and night), the characters all look different enough that I can tell them apart!  None of the cast are great actors, with a lot of stilted or awkward line deliveries, but then, a lot of the things they’re saying are completely ridiculous, so I probably can’t lay that entirely at their feet.
Unfortunately, the plot of Phantom From 10 000 Leagues is rather unfocused, and like so many of these films it’s not sure who its main character is.  It seems like either Agent Grant or Dr. Stevens, who are each conducting some kind of investigation into the goings-on, ought to be the protagonist… but both are introduced in contexts that make them seem potentially suspicious.  Dr. Stevens is actually significantly more suspicious than Grant, because when he first turns up he gives a fake name, and later proves to have actually performed experiments with mutating sea life in the past.  Yet for much of the movie, it’s Stevens we’re watching, as he cozies up to Professor King and flirts with King’s daughter Lois.  He actually gets far more screen time than Grant, with the latter sometimes being out of the movie for long enough that the audience kind of forgets he’s there.
Tumblr media
Stevens and Lois’ love story is, as is probably inevitable for a movie of this kind, completely bland.  Kent Taylor and Cathy Downs have no appreciable spark between them, and one gets the uncomfortable impression that he’s about twice her age. The movie never offers even an approximate age for either character, but Lois is still unmarried and living with her father, which in the 1950s suggests she’s in her early twenties.  King describes Stevens as a ‘young man’ but between his appearance and his impressive academic credentials he’s obviously not, and when I looked up the actors I learned that Taylor was forty-eight when The Phantom from 10 000 Leagues was made, while Downs was twenty-nine.  That’s… well, they’re both adults, but he’s still old enough to be her father, and the younger we assume they both are, the worse the two decade gap gets.
Once we actually get to know the characters, the solution to the mysteries is fairly obvious, but this lets us spend some actual time with these men and find out what they think about the situation.  Stevens, who’s been down this road before, wants these terrible experiments to stop before any more people get hurt.  King, hearing about it for the first time, is more excited about what he might be able to learn by building on Stevens’ work. This represents an interesting inversion because if you’ll recall, King is supposed to be significantly older than Stevens (though actor Michael Whelan was actually born only five years before Taylor).
Tumblr media
Usually knowledge and wisdom are both associated with age.  This is a very old trope and has some fairly sound logic behind it: the elderly have had longer to learn and to experience.  In Phantom from 10 000 Leagues, however, we have the older Professor King excited by the ground-breaking discoveries made by a younger scientist and wanting to learn more about them, even when the (supposedly) younger Stevens warns him about Tampering in God’s Domain.  Each assumes the role their ages might make us expect of the other.
This is reflected in their respective fields: depending on how you define it, oceanography is as old as mankind.  Humanity has been mapping the seas for as long as we’ve known how to sail across them, and marveling at the monsters we pull from its depths for as long as we’ve been catching fish.  That is the Professor King’s domain. Stevens, on the other hand, is a specifically nuclear scientist. Nuclear physics technically begins with the discovery of radioactivity in the 1890’s, but it seemed like a new and scary field in the 1950s, as the development of atomic weapons forced scientists to take a closer look at the phenomenon’s effect on living tissues. To King, who is an expert in another field, the possibilities of this relatively new work outweigh the potential consequences.
As sloppy and poorly-made as Phantom from 10 000 Leagues can be, this contrast between Stevens and King does make it a movie with something to say.  It of course has the standard moral for a fifties atomic monster piece, about paths science is not meant to tread, but it also wants us to think about that connection between age and wisdom.  On the one hand, King’s interest in Stevens’ work tells us that you’re never too old to learn something new.  On the other, just because somebody is young doesn’t mean they have nothing to teach. If King had taken in Stevens’ wisdom along with his knowledge, a lot of suffering need not have happened.
Even if you’re not into that, the crappy monster, the bad acting, the ridiculous science, and all the sneaking around and backstabbing that goes on makes Phantom from 10 000 Leagues plenty of fun watch.  It’s much like Beginning of the End in that it ticks all the MST3K boxes, while remaining coherent enough that you can enjoy the actual story along with the badness.

Many individuals think of investment money in an important international economic system just like the US ALL. This is finished with the particular S&P 500 inventory list regarding above 500 first-class US ALL organizations. Nonetheless, these kinds of 500 organizations are the cause of about 80% with the overall capitalization with the US ALL currency markets. The typical & Poor's 500 could be the major US ALL inventory signal. The efficiency has a bearing on the particular GDP regarding transferring nations around the world and also income progress along with several derivatives. Any person needing to start out investment needs more money, comprehend and also examine business accounts, on a regular basis help make proper adjustments inside their collection, keep an eye on industry discuss rates, and a lot notably, determine which usually 500 organizations to get in the beginning of these quest as a possible trader. Sure, there are a few concerns, yet all of them are solvable. Discuss value. Here is the value of your firm's discuss with a stage. It's rather a second, one hour, per day, weekly, monthly, and so forth. Stocks and shares can be any energetic tool. Industry will be unstoppable, and also value will probably be increased or perhaps reduced down the road as compared to it really is nowadays. Yet how will you know very well what value will be sufficient to get, whether it's pricey or perhaps not necessarily or even you ought to appear down the road? A better solution is easy, you can find economic designs regarding figuring out what exactly is referred to as honest benefit. Each and every trader, purchase business and also finance provides a unique, yet in the middle of the intricate statistical data can be quite a DCF product. There are numerous posts outlining DCF designs and we will not necessarily enter in the data and also illustrations. The key aim will be to discover a at present undervalued business simply by figuring out the honest benefit, which can be afterwards changed into an amount every discuss. We all help make everyday data and discover the particular honest rates of most the different parts of the particular S&P 500 List according to twelve-monthly accounts, observe adjustments inside the list and also up-date the info. Purchase criteria. For your projecting product to be effective properly, we'd like economic info coming from companies' twelve-monthly accounts. We all method this kind of info personally, without the need for software or perhaps computerized methods. Like that, we all jump in to the companies' financials entirely, examine and also go over the particular record, next nourish in which info directly into our own projecting product, which usually establishes the particular honest value. It is vital to own no less than 5-year info and appearance strongly on the characteristics regarding earnings, net income, running and also totally free cashflow. Ab muscles selection to be able to probably choose business will come simply right after figuring out their existing honest benefit and also benefit every discuss. We all take into account organizations using a prospective greater than 10% regarding honest benefit, yet initial items initial. Start. Thus, their twelve-monthly record happens nowadays. The particular record has to be audited and also printed from the SEC (Securities and also Swap Commission). According to part 8 with the record, we all help make data inside our product, replacement beliefs, compute multipliers, and lastly decide the particular honest benefit. Simply by almost all standards, the business will be undervalued and also at this time the particular discuss benefit is significantly below the particular computed beliefs, why don't we move further in to the record. Earnings. Why don't we examine earnings characteristics (it can be a considerable factor). Earnings continues to be increasing the past 3-5 decades, it will be best when it is often improving year in year out regarding a decade, nevertheless the amount regarding these kinds of organizations will be negligible. We all offer goal to be able to earnings inside our calculations-no earnings : you should not are the business inside our collection. We all look closely at achievable imbalances. As an example, through the pandemics (COVID-19), several organizations coming from diverse areas have got endured economic loss as well as the earnings lowered. That is someone method, with regards to the market. The best option: earnings progress + 5-10% throughout the last 5 decades.
Web income. We all go through the web income number, and it's also excellent when in addition, it increases, in training the internet income will be a lot more risky. In cases like this quite aspect will be in which business provides q income, rather than a damage, which can be 10-15% regarding earnings. Needless to say, a solid drop inside income is a unfavorable aspect in the particular data. The best option: any income regarding 10-15% regarding earnings throughout the last 5 decades. Resources and also financial obligations. We all see a equilibrium page to see the firm's resources boost year in year out, financial obligations lower, and also money boosts at the same time. Funds and also funds equivalents are usually improving. We all look closely at their total credit card debt, it should not necessarily go beyond 45% regarding resources. Alternatively, regarding organizations from your economic market, it isn't essential, and several feel safe together with 60-70% credit card debt. That is focused on someone method. We all take into account simply short-term and also long-term financial obligations, breaks and also lending options, procurment financial obligations. The best option: progress regarding business resources, overall credit card debt < 45% regarding resources, business money greater than 30%. Cashflow. We have been right away enthusiastic about the particular running cashflow (OCF), increasing yr simply by yr at a rate regarding 10-15%. We all examine money costs (CAPEX), it could a bit boost or perhaps continue to be the identical. The principal signal for people will probably be totally free cashflow (FCF) computed since OCF : CAPEX = FCF. The best option: progress regarding cashflow coming from functions, hook boost inside money costs, and a lot notably, twelve-monthly progress regarding totally free cashflow + 10-15%, that your business can easily devote to the more advancement, or perhaps for instance, about repurchasing regarding the explains to you. Dividend. Besides the rest, we must look closely at the particular dividend coverage with the business. All things considered, we all want it any time income are usually contributed, also somewhat tad, for our assets inside the business. In the event the dividend increases coming from yr to be able to yr, that simply pleases the particular trader. Furthermore, the general return inside organizations using a dividend must boost. Several buyers favor any "dividend collection, inches buying 15-20 dividend organizations together with brings regarding 4-6%, besides the progress inside the benefit with the explains to you by themselves. The best option: twelve-monthly dividend and also dividend produce progress, dividend produce previously mentioned the common produce regarding S&P 500 organizations. Multipliers. Relocating about the multiples with the business, all of them are computed making use of diverse remedies. Any time establishing the identical multiplier, you need to use several remedies using a diverse method. We all have a tendency to trim in the direction of the common. The particular essential signals will be the 3, 5 and also 10-year beliefs. The particular list regarding a decade gets the least expensive effect inside the data plus the twelve-monthly. In the present economic system, we all take into account 3 and also 5-year signals being the main kinds. How many multiples will be massive plus it tends to make simply no perception to be able to compute every single one of which. We have to take notice simply to the particular key kinds. One of them are usually Price/Earnings proportion (P/E), Price/Cash Movement proportion (P/CF), ROA and also ROE, Price/Book (P/B), Price/Sales, Venture Value/Revenue (EV/R), Real Publication Benefit, Go back about Put in Money (ROIC). It is crucial to consider these kinds of signals inside characteristics above 5-10 decades. The best option: price/profit and also cashflow proportions are usually regressing or perhaps have reached the identical stage (these proportions needs to be lower than 15), performance proportions are usually improving yr simply by yr and also relocating toward 25, some other proportions are usually previously mentioned common on this market. It is a tiny established regarding buyers. Needless to say, there are numerous signals in the firm's twelve-monthly record, quite kinds contain running income, wear and tear, revenue just before fees, fees, goodwill and others. We all get ready the main element and a lot crucial economic signals, it is possible to help save lots of time and also study almost all organizations inside the S&P 500 List. We have now a broad thought in regards to the economic well being with the business. We all produced several data inside our economic product, in which we all established the particular proportion regarding undervaluation at this time and also determined whether or not to get explains to you with this business or perhaps not necessarily. You can find simply no impediments. Spend 5-8% of one's accessible price range and get the particular inventory. Be sure you diversify the collection. Acquire undervalued organizations, 1-2 inside each and every market. You can find 11 areas inside the S&P 500. Pick simply people organizations whoever enterprise you recognize, whoever companies you employ or perhaps whoever goods you get. Usually do not dash the particular data within your product, in case you are uncertain, usually do not spend money on this provider. Amazingly, a great undervalued business may well not attain the benefit for some time. The particular dividend paid out can increase the circumstance. Avoid organizations together with details noises. Generally, they will don't stop talking yet usually do not carry out significantly. The particular S&P 500 list regarding organizations continues to be glorious the average twelve-monthly go back regarding 8-10% for quite some time. Needless to say, there were negative decades regarding organizations, nevertheless they are usually recouping faster as compared to their particular "junior colleagues" inside the S&P 500 or perhaps 1000. Use a excellent and also rewarding purchase.

BNHA Headcanons: All For One and Imortality
Origin:
AFO was born during the first wave of quirks from quirkless parents. It honestly didn’t matter if he had a quirk or not, his pale hair marks him as different enough that the panicking masses would target him anyway. He grows up mean and stubborn - you can’t get hurt when you hurt them first, right?
He grows up violently protective of his little brother (born 3 years after him, an attempt to have a ‘normal’ child. They wait with bated breath and rejoice when he turns 4 with no powers. The pale hair still leaves him a target, but his isn’t one of those freaks, right?)
AFO basically grows up his brother’s guard dog. OFA’s too weak to fend for himself, but worth more than his older brother. AFO loves his little brother but deeply resents him, especially when he refuses a quirk that would keep him safe and make him more independent.
AFO starts by taking quirks from those who truly do not want them. The children, scared of what their purist parents will do, adults who fear getting fired simply because they can summon candle flames on their fingertips. It makes him angry that the quirked are getting hurt, and he refuses to abandon ‘his’ people.
Eventually, he takes quirks from those who don’t ask. People who attack him, traitors that refuse to engage in the violent protest so needed to set them free. He feels little pity - they didn’t deserve their quirks.
He trades quirks among his ranks, gaining loyal men where he once had dissenters. The first time he tries to give multiple quirks to some scares him, he feels sick. He didn’t mean it to go like that.
He burns the body and vows not to do it again (he does not keep that vow)
As his empire grows, he can no longer protect his brother. Filled with resentment but with loyalty to his weaker sibling that had been pressed into his bones, he locks him away - safe, but out of sight. Out of mind.
His brother tries to move against him. He’s incensed. He always thought his brother hated him for being quirked (that was never it, it was the light in his eyes when he hit others into the ground before they could open their mouths to explain) and decided to enact justice in the most fitting way he could: ‘blessing’ his brother with a quirk.
Its a stockpiler, lovingly taken care of by AFO to gift to his brother should he ever ask. He anger drives him to remove that agency. It’s the perfect quirk for him: stockpiling his extra energy to use on days where his bones ache so much he can hardly stand. But with his brother’s condition, it will never become the powerhouse it could have been.
Little does he know that, in passing that quirk on, he had already given a shred of his own power to his little brother, letting him fight harder and stronger.
The first legal heroes of Japan are announced. AFO is not one of them.
OFA is.
AFO is raging, insensed that the people who tried to exterminate the quirked are now calling them in to fight their battles for them. He's enraged that only those with the flashy, heroic quirks are hailed as the chosen.
He makes up his mind - he’s in for the long haul. He steals a longevity quirk and spreads his tendrils. He can wait.
Then his brother comes for him. The fight is long and painful, neither of them wanting to deal the final blow, both hoping the other will just run away. AFO is lacking in his quirk stock at this early point, the lower number of quirked individuals making finding useful quirks all the more difficult.
OFA is struck down, bleeding out, but the heroes rally around him. AFO has a choice to make, save his brother, or escape.
He escapes.
It doesn’t take him long to see that twice damned quirk again, the same light in different eyes. He wants it back, but it is the one quirk he can not take.
Time:
When one starts to see the same faces born again and again, it becomes difficult to see them as people.
AFO starts by refusing to kill, then killing only when he feels he must for the greater good. Eventually, he stops caring. He hears the same sob stories fall from everyone’s lips and with each passing year they affect him less.
He breaks his vow to never create another Nomu, simply to see what happens. He feels the quirks are better served with him, but maybe, maybe one day.
New things become his main source of amusement, and even as the people around him grow stale, their quirks are ever-shifting, ever beautiful. He collects some of them simply for the sake of having them, glittering gems in his vault of sharpened weapons.
The wielders of his brother's quirk are perhaps some of the only sources of novelty for him. Each of them is different, so very different from the kind, smart and too-heroic spirit his brother had. The brother that lacked the ability to hold a grudge no matter what, who fought for what he thought was right and fair about his own life.
AFO missed him. His brother had been a rare breed.
All Might, the 8th in line, is his least favourite by far. A far cry from the kindly spirit of Nana Shimura, All Might rages through his empire, taking it apart piece by piece in what seems more like spite fueled rampage than a heroic quest.
He’s partly correct, but he misses All Might’s truly heroic spirit, blinded by the cliche he is. He’s seen this hero in 1′000 different costumes, with 1′000 different faces. All he brings to the table is his little brother quirk, one he uses like a mallet when AFO knows he could craft the thing into a precision weapon of such beauty.
The 9th wielder is - he is different. Midoriya Izuku is different.
For one, he’s smart. Sharp and analytical in a way OFA’s wielders hadn’t been since his brother. He’s heroic to the last breath but picks his battles when there isn't anyone to save.
Moreover, he was quirkless. Sure, so was All Might, but Midoriya is quirkless in a time when it was almost as dangerous to be quirkless as it had been to be quirked when he was younger. He has the sports festival described to him, lets the fact that he boy shivers and shakes with fear, even as his breaks his fingers to help a boy he does not know take root in his mind. This one is different.
And his love of quirks! AFO hasn’t met someone as interested in quirks since his doctor, and he’ll admit the man is crazy to the nth degree. The boy is gifted, heroic, everything his brother thought a hero should be.
AFO watches and waits for the newest wielder of his little brother’s quirk to grow into his legacy. He figures it might not be too bad to lose to this one.

This option will result in having a manageable business without much risk, but the profits are likely to be low "It's not that I doubt your commanding abilities!" Bil says Uh-Oh It's Showtime! As Bil throws in playing with his sawfish teeth interlocking device "Ummm Welll its just that I was under the impression that you were the daughter of Ola our departed co-chef Also my age and not fit to command anyone," Bil says as he squirms uncomfortably You've met my Pa before " Silence, evident confusion, and slight panic washes over Bill's sober face Get him on the couch! "Perhaps we should discuss this matter at a later time I am terribly busy with inventory and organizing everything until the day that Ola arrives in ten hours via hover train," Bill says attempting to leave You clamp your hand around Bil Muscat's thin arm He jumps back and lets out a loud yelp YOU: "Keep your voice down What I need you to do is organize and inventory the smaller alcohol bottles," "Yes Boss " Bil says "And Bil, do it quickly, or you'll feel my wrath The man frightened and near tears he cautiously approaches the alcohol storage closet This isn't going to plan, but the least effective time to do this would be now You need to guide him along "Hey, you're new, right?" a man says to Bil as he steps off the hover tram You recognize him as another alcohol supplier (and buddy of yours) named Zimak "I've got a large shipment that arrived this morning Where would you like it? I can't unstow everything myself " THIS CHOICE MATTERS! NOTE: You may select more then one choice for your answer Option One: Place the alcohol in a different location from the current supplies Option Two - Get a jump on this shipment and place it with the current alcohol "Leave it with the main supply," You shout Bil is too overwhelmed to speak Soon he manages to locate the crates of alcohol in Zimak's shipment He soon begins separating the bottles organized by type and size Pleased as punch Bil says, "I see you sent out for some top-shelf alcohol again, but what's this?" Bil's holding up a blue aluminum canister that says fizzy peach wuzzy on the side You now have a final answer of where the can is placed Placing it somewhere else will break your streak! Option One: Place it with the main stock Option Two: Place it elsewhere on another shelf YOU: "Stock it where you cherry-picked items are located " "But I need those for gifts and personal use," bawls Bill as he attempts to collect himself again Before long he'll cry in front of the customers! "Sweet Christmas! Would you calm down? Does that stuff really do anything for you?" You say as you snatch the canned good out of his hands and begin to open it "Man, this fruit punch is a real lemon-lime bomb! Heh See? I made a joke!" You continue to mock Bil until he begins to seriously sob into his hands While he attempts to regain his composure, you send the Zimak fellow on his way Zimak, why did you send me such an alcoholic beverage?" You say still holding the metallic tasting blue liquid "I dunno, I thought you guys would like it for one of your parties or something That stuff's pretty popular and my kids love the cartoon on the side of the can "You're lucky I like you and this was free," You say lightly pushing Zimak, before he takes his leave Somehow you'll have to get through the day without offending anyone too harshly or else the word will spread that you're a mean boss and folks will avoid shopping here Last thing you want is to have this place become a ghost town Maybe get a bit drunk today That reminds you of Bill's earlier freakout over his bottle of Stoli You better see what exactly is bugging Bil today Upon entering the break-room (what you call the refrigerator) you find Bil wailing and gnashing his teeth over one of the shelves You figured it out instantly; his beloved Smirnoff isn't there! "Things can't be that bad " You trail off as he turns to you sobbing Oh boy He took it!" "Who took what?" "Gunther! He took my bottle!" At this point Bil wipes his nose on his shirt sleeve and begins pointing an accusatory finger at you, "It's your fault! If you hadn't opened that big can of worms by pulling that April fools prank, he would've left everything alone " You can't tell if this is the alcohol or his medical condition but either way, you need to get to the bottom of this "Alright, you know what? I'll go talk to him myself You just sit here and relax " "I won't relax until I get my drinks back!" Well, at least that's a start in the right direction Now you just hope Gunther is home

Endangered Felines, part 1
Tiger, Panthera tigris
Without a doubt one of the most iconic and recognizable animals on Earth, the tiger was voted the world’s favorite animal in 2004, with the domestic dog coming in second, and dolphins third.
I was planning on splitting tigers into one post per subspecies, but since there are sadly so many cat species that are endangered, this series will be long enough already, and it gives a better overview to have them all in one post.
And just as I was researching for this post, it turns out that in 2017, the tiger was reduced to a mere two subspecies - the mainland (P. t. tigris), and the Sunda Island (P. t. sondaica) populations - but this is disputed, as there are morphological and genetic differences between these populations. In this post, I will treat them all as their own subspecies.
While at first I was a bit skeptical about the switch to now only having two tiger subspecies when I think about it more, it's actually great for tiger conservation, because that means we don't have to be "subspecies purists" anymore. This means we can repopulate areas with another population easier, without claims of "it's an invasive/foreign animal".
While I will try to keep each topic brief, this will still be a lengthy and exhaustive post, as you can’t simply brush over things in the most beloved and famous endangered animal on Earth.
Tumblr media
This is the historic range of all tigers. From the far northeast of Russia to the east of the Black Sea, by Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, all the way to the far southern islands of Java and Bali.
Today, they have been extirpated from most of their range, with three of the nine former subspecies extinct. By 2017, there were just under 4000 tigers in the wild combined, and that is after a recent rise in numbers, for the first time in over a century. A couple of hundred years ago, there were at least 40 000 tigers in India alone.
They are estimated globally to have numbered around 100 000 in the year 1900, meaning 97% of tigers were lost in a century.
Occasionally hunted throughout history, either because of fear, sport among the wealthy or for their parts, tiger hunts took on a new dimension when Europeans colonized India and other parts of South Asia, with "gentlemen sports hunters" proudly subduing nature. And later in the 20th and 21st centuries, mainly poaching for body parts used in "traditional medicine".
Tumblr media
An Indian tiger hunt carried out by Lord Reding, Viceroy of India, likely in the mid-1920s.
Direct hunting is not the only threat against tigers, as the human population in Southeast Asia has exploded over the past century, and today, there is nowhere left for wildlife to go.
The tiger has been listed as endangered under the IUCN, consistently since its first assessment in 1986.
Tumblr media
Bengal tiger, Panthera tigris tigris
The Bengal is without a doubt the most well-known of all tiger subspecies, not the least due to our strong association of tigers with Indian culture. They are also the most numerous tiger population today.
They are 90-110 cm tall at the shoulders and weigh up to 325 kg, with males averaging 235 kg, and females ranging from 116-164 kg.
Given a separate assessment by the IUCN in 2008, the Bengal tiger is considered endangered. Today, they number around 2300 animals in the wild, 1700 of which are in India, 440 in Bangladesh, 200 in Nepal, and 75-100 in Bhutan.
The population is severely fragmented, and no subpopulation contains more than 250 animals. Despite cautiously optimistic news a couple of years ago, they are still considered "decreasing".
If 40 000 was the original number of tigers in India, today, there are only 4% left, and it is still the biggest stronghold of wild tigers anywhere.
Tumblr media
Amur tiger, P. t. altaica
More famously known as Siberian tiger, this name is inaccurate as they don't live anywhere near Siberia, which is a large chunk of eastern Russia, having no eastern coastline. While the tiger lives in the very far southeast, near Korea. They are also known as the Manchurian, Ussurian and Korean tiger.
As can be seen on the map above however, they did have a far larger range before widespread hunting nearly wiped them out.
The largest cat on Earth today (after the extinction of the Caspian tiger), they are the second most numerous tiger population, at around 500 animals in the wild (in 2005, they were estimated at 360). They were saved on the brink of extinction, as only a couple of dozen animals remained when they were finally protected.
Despite this vast increase however, the effective population size is only equivalent to around 30 animals, which is close to the total world population when they were saved from extinction. This is due to inbreeding from a smaller and smaller population that then had only a handful of already related animals to rebound from.
It was in the early 20th century that the Amur tiger was nearly wiped out, due to the massive societal change that was going on in Russia at the time. Armies on both sides of the civil war based in Vladivostok made it their mission to kill as many tigers as they could.
Tigers were extirpated from the Korean peninsula by the Japanese in the same period, when Japan occupied Korea. Today, South Korea is working on once again creating a home for the Amur tiger in their lands.
The Soviet Union finally banned tiger hunting in 1947, after which anti-poaching control was very strict. Cubs kept being live-caught well into the 1960s however.
In the middle of the 1900s, deer populations fell in the Amur tiger's range, leaving them no choice but to find other prey. Bizarrely, more than 30 cases of tigers attacking bears were recorded, and bear hair was found in tiger droppings.
After the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 and the subsequent economic and societal collapse, people were free to poach tigers again, with some doing it to sell to the Chinese market. Today however, the population is stable, but vulnerable.
In 1965, it was given the listing of "status inadequately known", and this was not changed until 1996, when they were assessed as "critically endangered". This laster until 2008, when they were moved to endangered.
At present, there are about as many Amur tigers in human care as there are in the wild, totalling about 1000 Amur tigers on the planet. The zoological population has a higher genetic diversity than wild tigers, as the foundation stock was largely caught when tigers were more numerous in the wild.
Tumblr media
Sumatran tiger, P. t. sumatrae
The Sumatran is the one tiger that I personally can recognize easily, due to their striking and bold facial pattern. They are among the smallest tigers alive today, with males reaching only 140 kg - this is a size similar to jaguars. They are also the only Indonesian or Sunda island tiger still in existence.
The Sumatran tiger has been consistently listed as critically endangered since their first assessment in 1996.
They number approximately 500-600 animals, not including ones in zoos and other collections.
Their threats are mainly a shrinking habitat due to palm oil and Acacia plantations leading to a depletion of prey, as well as poaching for their body parts.
Tumblr media
Malayan tiger, P. t. jacksoni
Although recent research has discovered that there is no real difference between this and the Indochinese tiger, it was considered its own subspecies since a DNA analysis in 2004, until the recent merge where all mainland tigers are considered P. t. tigris.
Subspecies or subpopulation, the Malayan tiger was listed as “endangered” in 2008, and in 2014, it was reassessed under its current listing as critically endangered.
This was because they had declined by 25% in only one generation (7 years).
In the 1950s, there were about 3000 Malayan tigers. In the 1990s, there were 500, and in 2013, they were estimated at 250-340 animals. This gives an estimate of only around 100 breeding adults in the wild.
The total number in human care is difficult to get to, but apparently in 2011, there were 54 Malayan tigers in American zoos alone, spread across 25 facilities.
The Malayan tiger's habitat has shrunk from nearly 100 000 square kilometers before 1970s, to less than 45 000 square kilometers in 2014. Aside from this threat, is of course poaching for body parts for a Chinese market. Between the years 2000-2013, body parts equating to 1425 tigers had been seized, 94 of these being Malayan tigers.
The Global Tiger Recovery Program, made up of 13 countries where tigers live, set a goal in 2010 to double their tiger populations by 2022. Malaysia had made a similar promise before this agreement, in 2009, with their National Tiger Conservation Action Plan setting to doubling Malaysia's tiger population by 2020.
With the new population estimate of 250-340 adult Tigers and diminishing prey base and natural forests, it is biologically impossible to reach the NTCAP target by 2020.
Tumblr media
Indochinese tiger, P. t. corbetti
The Indochinese tiger lives in Southeast Asia, and is viewed as the ancestor of all tigers, the other subspecies diverging around 72 000-108 000 years ago.
They are functionally extinct in Vietnam, Cambodia and possibly China, and number around 300-400 animals in total, the largest population being in Thailand.
They have been listed as endangered since 2008.
They are the least represented in zoos out of all tiger subspecies, and no coordinated breeding program exists. Approximately 14 zoo tigers have been discovered to be Indochinese after DNA analysis of 105 animals in 14 countries.
Tumblr media
South China tiger, P. t. amoyensis
This is the most threatened tiger subspecies as they are believed to be extinct in the wild, since the last time one was live-caught in the 1970s.
Only 20 years earlier, they numbered more than 4000 animals, but then came Mao Zedong's "Great Leap Forward", when all wildlife stood in the way of "progress" (remember the Baiji).
Large-scale government anti-pest campaigns took off, and tigers were massacred, mercilessly. This was made worse by deforestation, heavy settling of the countryside from the cities (as part of the GLF) and over-hunting of their prey.
By 1973, they were partially protected, and by 1977, hunting was completely prohibited.
By the early 1980s, they were estimated at 150-200 animals, though not one tiger has been seen since the early 70s.
They are considered critically endangered, possibly extinct in the wild, but there is hope there still are a handful of tigers holding on in the wilds of China. For example, in 2007, a bear and a cow were killed by what was most likely a tiger.
In 2005, the entire zoological population numbered 57 animals descended from only six tigers. Despite being inbred and suffering poor breeding success as a result, DNA tests showed many aren’t pure South China tigers anyway. Another estimate (made difficult by crossbreeding) in 2007 put the global zoological population at 72 animals.
Tumblr media
Bali tiger, P. t. balica
The Bali tiger, formerly inhabiting only the island of Bali since 12 000 - 13 000 years back, was the smallest of all tigers, with males only reaching up to 100 kg and females 80 kg, putting this tiger around the same size as a jaguar or cougar.
They were only listed as extinct by the IUCN as late as 2008, but the last one probably died just after the second world war, with the last known tigers recorded in the 1930s.
The Bali tiger was killed off through a lethal cocktail of environmental destruction (palm plantations and rice fields) and sports hunting by the Dutch colonizers. The West Bali National Park was established in 1941, but it came too late to save the tiger.
This animal was never filmed alive nor held in zoos (though it seems the Ringling Bros Circus had one), and it is very difficult to even find photos of live animals.
Tumblr media
Javan tiger, P. t. sondaica
The Javan tiger was small, but just larger than the Bali, and similar in size to the still living Sumatran. They were notable in appearance by often having very sparse stripes around the front legs and shoulders.
This population was pronounced extinct by the IUCN in 2003, but the last confirmed sighting was recorded as far back as 1976. Several accounts of alleged sightings exist however, even within the last ten years, including a person supposedly being killed by a tiger in 2008.
In 2017, a blurry image surfaced of what was supposedly a Javan tiger. It was however most likely a Javan leopard, also a critically endangered cat.
We can always hope at least some of these alleged sightings were of tigers, but there is always the possibility that the animals witnessed were actually leopards.
At the turn of the last century, 28 million people lived on Java, while today, it is a jaw-dropping 145 million (resulting in a mind-blowing population density of 1.121 people per square kilometer - in comparison, the state of New York has a population denity of 416 people per square kilometer).
By the middle of the 1800s, people considered tigers a plague, and by the turn of the century, 150% more land had to be cleared for agriculture in only 15 years. By 1975, only 8% of the island's forests remained.
These tigers were poisoned, hunted, their main prey nearly died out, and the forests were cleared for lumber and agriculture.
To make things even worse, World War 2 happened, so the few that were kept in zoos were lost. After the war, it was easier to obtain Sumatran tigers, so none were taken from Java.
A funny thing to note is how the Javan people’s fear of the tiger led them to always referring to it as “Mr. Tiger”. They thought that if they spoke of it in a casual way, the tiger might hear them and take revenge.
Tumblr media
Caspian tiger, P. t. virgata
Like the Javan tiger, the Caspian was pronounced extinct by the IUCN in 2003, but the last record was in the early 1970s, and it died out some time during this decade.
It was possibly the largest cat in the world during recorded human history, after the ice age extinction of the cave lion.
It lived across parts of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, eastern Turkey, northern Iran, parts of Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, even well into western China.
The last tiger in Georgia was shot in 1922, they were last recorded in Kazakhstan in 1948, one of the last in Iran was shot in 1953, the last in Turkmenistan was killed in 1954.
Tigers were killed both for sport and as pest control, including by the Soviet army. Up until World War 1, about a hundred tigers were killed in a forest area of the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border - every year. To make matters worse, their natural prey (pigs) declined heavily in the early 1900s due to overhunting and disease, and agriculture destroyed much of the tiger's natural habitat.
While this unique population is gone forever, there are plans to perhaps one day restock the area with Amur tigers, the closest living analogue to the Caspian tiger.
In a day when habitats are shrinking, other habitats may open up, and this could give the Amur tiger a greater hope to continue into the future.
The “there are more tigers in people’s backyards / basements than in the wild”-myth
More of a misrepresentation than a myth, it is true that there are more tigers in human care across the globe than there are in the wild. This is nothing strange for such an endangered animal.
The Scimitar-horned oryx, for example, was up until a couple of years ago extinct in the wild. There are now a few dozen roaming completely wild, while there are up to 11 000 of the antelopes in Texas alone.
The Eastern Bongo numbers around 400 animals in American collections alone, four times the population remaining in the wild!
The Przewalski's horse numbers around 2000 animals, and although many live in free-ranging reserves, only around 400 are considered truly wild and living in their native habitat, after reintroduction programs.
The Père David’s deer was extinct in the wild until some animals escaped and formed a population now some 700 strong, but it's still far outnumbered by the zoological population.
The blue-throated macaw numbers only around 300 animals in the wild, and the World Parrot Trust previously said there were "up to a thousand" in cages.
The Spix’s macaw numbers around 130 birds in human care, and was considered extinct in the wild since the last known bird disappeared in 2000, until one was discovered in 2016. If there are more in the wild, it is only a handful of scattered individuals.
The Hawaiian crow is extinct in the wild since 2002, with just over 100 birds in human care.
The Socorro dove has been extinct in the wild since 1972, with 150 birds alive today, all in cages.
The Guam rail is extinct in the wild since 1987, with some 160 birds alive in zoological facilities.
The orange-bellied parrot numbers around 340 in human care, with less than 20 in the wild.
It is however not true that there are more tigers in America than in the wild, let alone "in people's basements".
That claim is completely absurd, and while sometimes tigers are abused and neglected as with all animal species, that is extremely rare and would be far more common in their native Asia than in America.
According to the Feline Conservation Federation, the United States held just under 2900 tigers in 2011. In contrast, a decade ago in China, there were over 4000 tigers in human care in that country alone. The IUCN states (unknown date) that there are some 6000 tigers in China, mainly farmed for body parts.
We can debate the ethics of these various tiger facilities, but a large number also live in zoos and conservation centers. There is no such thing as several thousand "pet tigers" living in people's living rooms, backyards, or basements.
Tumblr media
Privately owned tigers in America, courtesy of the Feline Conservation Federation.
But what the popular media likes to do, other than misrepresent the numbers (and say there are "10 000 pet tigers in American backyards" or some such nonsense), they also like to say that it's this vast number in human care ("captivity") that is the problem!
When people hear for example that there are 3000 tigers in the wild and 5000 or something in America, they seem to think America "stole" those tigers from the wild, and they must be put back! While in reality, tigers in the west have spent decades and generations on the continent, in zoos, circuses, and private collections.
And if you could take America's 2900 tigers and release them all, say hypothetically that it was allowed (many are not "pure") and that they could all survive in the wild. The threats on tigers in the wild, from poaching and habitat destruction, is still nowhere near gone.
So then we could have 5900 tigers for a while, and then a decade or two later, we'd be right back at 3000 again, with NOT ONE tiger alive in American breeding programs. Now who would that help?
That there are more tigers in human care than in the wild is a tragedy of the wild, not of "captivity".
In conclusion
Tigers are the most beloved endangered animal on the planet, and given both their popularity as well as their comparatively vast numbers in human care, the species stands a good chance at surviving indefinitely.
Whether that will only be in zoos, farms and other collections for the foreseeable future, or whether our children and grandchildren will have a chance to see tigers roaming freely in their natural habitats, free from persecution, is another question.

DuDe MetalBacked.money)is a cryptocurrency-based charity that directly supports the efforts of MoneyWithoutBorders
Tumblr media
People’s Money (PMXX) is a digital currency that runs on the Polygon blockchain. It’s similar to the US dollar in that it can be used as a medium of exchange and is accepted within the People’s Money ecosystem. However, there are several key differences between PMXX and the dollar that make it a better choice for payments and transactions.
Know All About DuDe Coin
DuDe People’s Money (MetalBacked.money) is a cryptocurrency-based charity that directly supports the efforts of MoneyWithoutBorders.club to help the unfortunate around the world by providing food, shelter, education, and medical care to those who need it.
The money raised will be used to buy land and build buildings in countries such as Ghana and Kenya that have been so devastated by poverty that they have had to lower their minimum wage to $1 per day. The People’s Money’s digital currency, DuDe Coins, can be used as a store of value, much like Bitcoin.
They can also be purchased with government-backed currencies through a cryptocurrency exchange such as Coinbase (although the DuDe Company does not recommend using Coinbase for this purpose.)
So how does the currency work? It is based on a token called Polygon, which is built on top of blockchain technology. Like any banknote, each DuDe Coin is backed by one gram of fine gold or silver. As long as there are hundreds of thousands of people willing to accept these coins in exchange for goods and services.
DuDe Tokenomics
Tumblr media
DuDe People’s Money (MetalBacked.money) is a cryptocurrency like Bitcoin, but with its own unique features and philanthropic purpose. The DuDe blockchain enables peer-to-peer transactions, so there is no need for a third party to complete the exchange. The coins are issued as 1 Trillion (1 000 000 000 000) DuDe Coins, which are assigned to help the unfortunate around the world.
90% of DuDe Coins will be burned. They'll utilize investor money to buy back their own shares. This is prevalent among publicly listed corporations and frequently boosts stock values.
DuDe's move to burn coins might result in big payouts for investors. The stock might fall and investors could lose their whole investment. DuDe burning may be beneficial for gamblers.
The Dudes are on their way to become the people's money. Tokennomics' 90% investor return explains DuDe's 9000% growth potential. Tokens provide a new way to invest in the future. The Dudes want to repay their investment. Dudes will continue to expand with a motivated staff. The sky's the limit.
Conclusion
The mission of this organization is to provide assistance to those who are less fortunate in order to assist them in regaining their dignity and climbing out of poverty. DuDe Coin ($DuDe) ve all been dealt some pretty hard and fast curve balls by the world, particularly in the last couple of years, and now DuDe Coin re all out here trying to put things back in order as best we can.
$DuDe have collaborated with Afifi Alaouie, an acting phenomenon who was born in Liberia, and her charity, MoneyWithoutBorders.club, in order to empower impoverished and undeveloped areas of the globe. Some of these parts may very well be just outside your door, but more on that later.
Sincerely, Money Without Borders receives 100% of the proceeds from any purchases made using ETH.
The blockchain technology known as Polygon is what powers the DuDe People's Money, also known as MetalBacked.money.
All dealings are conducted directly between users, without the involvement of any intermediaries. There has been circulation of one trillion (1 000 000 000 000) DuDe Coins.
The mission of DuDe People's Money is to provide assistance to those who are disadvantaged. Invest your ETH with DuDe to have a positive impact on the world.
Afifi Alaouie and the MoneyWithoutBorders.club Charity Organization are recipients of direct financial assistance from DuDe People's Money (MetalBacked.money). You may either purchase in as a couple or as an individual.
1.) USDC or DuDe as a means of financial investing
2.) ETH or DuDe, and 100% of the proceeds will be sent to the designated charity.

Strangely, unemployment claims rise 16k to 351k despite 10M job openings
Tumblr media
The number of Americans filing new claims for jobless benefits rose for by 16,000 last week despite a massive shortage of workers in key industries, including retail, government and education, leaving 10million positions open across the country open.
Last week 351,000 people filed for unemployment benefits, a 16,000-person spike from the week before when 335,000 filed, according to data from the Department of Labor (DOL).
The first week of September saw only 310,000 jobless claims – a new low amid the pandemic. At the height of the pandemic last year, about 6.1million new claims were being filed weekly.
This is despite the country’s 10million job openings outnumbering the number of people looking for work. At least 8.7million people were still unemployed at the beginning of the month, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
There has been little incentive for Americans to apply for new jobs with the Biden administration extending pandemic-related benefits. This included a $300 weekly boost on checks, which only stopped being paid on September 6.
However, parents are still being given a payout on the American Rescue Plan, which gives parents $3,600 per child under the age of six or $3,000 for those up to age 17 through December 15, 2021. There are 60million eligible children under this plan.
The pandemic and the lockdowns have also shifted workers’ mindsets, with some saying they wanted to work remotely permanently. Others moved in 2020 to areas where jobs aren’t so readily available.
But with many choosing not to apply for job openings, the retail industry has been hit hardest. The DOL reported a decline of 29,000 jobs in August alone. Since February 2020, employment is down 285,000 in the industry.
State and local government education took huge losses since last year, too, and the DOL reported employment down by 186,000 in state government education and 220,000 at the local level.
As of the summer, there were 1.7million job openings in education and health services but only 1.1million people employed in the field. Professional and businesses services were similarly inconsistent, offering 1.8million jobs but only employing 921,000.
Oddly enough, on Labor Day weekend, when the unemployed lost $300 in federal weekly benefits and self-employed workers lost aid entirely, people did not flood to search for new work.
According to The Wall Street Journal, that’s because the pandemic and the lockdowns that came with it have changed people.
The Journal reported that employees have changed their work preferences to value more flexibility in their schedule, see the benefit of no commute and have more time to spend with family.
Betsy Mercado, the senior vice president of human resources at Flynn, told the news site: ‘They are trying to figure out what job is going to provide them with the most income and the flexibility they need. People have an ability now to really choose where they want to work.’
A ZipRecruiter survey revealed a number of unemployed people are seeking work in a field completely different than the one they had a job in before the pandemic.
It reported that 70 per cent of job seekers who last worked in the leisure and hospitality industry are looking for jobs in other fields while 55 per cent of applicants want remote jobs.
Not to mention the Biden administration’s extension on the American Rescue Plan, which lessens the urgency to return to work.
Eligibility is dependent on a family’s income and under the expanded scheme, parents can choose to receive the credit in monthly payments up to $300 per child or as a lump sum later in the year.
Plus the spread of the Delta variant this summer has put renewed pressure on the economy and the job market.
The DOL released a statement earlier this month projecting that by 2030, employment opportunities will increase further and there will eventually be 11.9million job openings.
The prediction was attributed to ‘recovery growth’ from Covid-19, which is why the DOL predicted ’employment in the leisure and hospitality sector is projected to increase the fastest’.
‘The healthcare and social assistance sector is projected to add the most new jobs,’ the statement read, adding that ‘among occupational groups, healthcare support occupations are projected for the fastest-growing job’.
More than 2.8million Americans have remained on traditional state unemployment benefits since 2020 – a number twice as high as pre-pandemic levels yet significantly lower than this time last year.
In September of last year about 13million Americans were on traditional state unemployment benefits.
While economic recovery is underway inflation and labor shortages have held back further progress in recent weeks and officials have warned that recovery will take a long time.
The country offered only 235,000 new jobs last month after having added roughly a million in both June and July, thus falling way short of expectations and triggering concerns that economic recovery is flatlining.
Hiring plummeted in industries that require face-to-face contact with the public –  notably restaurants, hotels and retail.
Restaurants and bars cut 42,000 jobs in August after the hospitality and food services industry as a whole added 115,000 jobs in July, according to a report from the Labor Department’s Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey.
Hotels added just 7,000, the fewest since February.
But President Joe Biden shared an optimistic view of the numbers during a news conference last Friday.
‘What we’re seeing is an economic recovery that is durable and strong. The Biden plan is working, we’re getting results,’ he said at the White House Friday morning.
But he admitted the Delta variant was why the Friday report ‘wasn’t stronger’.
On Wednesday the Federal Reserve reported that US economic activity ‘downshifted’ in July and August, in part because of a pullback in dining out, travel and tourism related to concerns about the Delta variant.
The day before the US reported more than 120,000 new Covid-19 cases and about 1,020 new deaths, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, which is a decline in the 180,000 new infections being reported last month.
Also on Tuesday Moody’s Analytics released a report warning that the US Treasury Department will run out of cash by October unless Congress raises its debt ceiling.
Currently, the Republicans are refusing to increase the debt limit over concerns about Biden’s vast spending plans.
Mark Zendi, the chief economist at Moody’s Analytics, said in his latest report that the Biden administration and Congress are ‘playing a dangerous game with debt limit’.
He cited the pressing September 30 deadline – by which Congress must decide whether ‘to renew expiring government spending authority for the 2022 fiscal year that begins October 1’.
The blow would come in the form of a depression that would rival the Great Recession, according to CNN Business.
Moody’s predicted a default on debt payments would wipe out nearly six million jobs and raise the nation’s unemployment rate from 5.4 to nine per cent.
Stock prices would also be slashed by one-third, erasing about $15trillion in household wealth as a result, as reported by CNN.
Despite the threat of such a large economic downturn Republicans have refused to raise the debt ceiling because of the Biden administration’s trillion dollars worth of spending plans.
In August Democrats unveiled a $3.5trillion budget of funding hikes for economic and environmental programs. The 92-page measure laid the groundwork for legislation that – over a decade – would pour mountains of cash into their key priorities.
That included money for education, health care and environmental programs, plus tax breaks for families – funded in large part by tax increases on the wealthy and on corporations
The Senate later passed a bipartisan version of the infrastructure bill last month with a price tag of $1.2trillion, which Democrats in the House said they wouldn’t approve without approval of the $3.5trillion reconciliation package first.
Manchin, the most moderate Democrat in the Senate, said that he could not support the reconciliation as it stands.
If he does not budge, the Congress could be at a deadlock where neither of the massive pieces of legislation will get through – something Moody’s noted was part of the problem.
Moody’s found that the worst case scenario would be if Congress didn’t act to lift the debt ceiling and the stalemate carried on.

Bitcoin nerves, Tesla told to dump crypto, NFT madness
Every Saturday, Hodler Digest helps you stay on top of all the important news of the week. The best (and worst) quotes, rules and highlights, predictions and more – one week on Cointelegraph in one link.
The best stories of the week
Tumblr media
Bitcoin traders are concerned now that the price remains below $50,000.
After reaching a low of $43,500 last Sunday, Bitcoin made a comeback and managed to reach $52,000 on Wednesday. There has been some optimism that the correction is over and that BTC can return to temporary highs.
Unfortunately, the best laid plans of mice and humans often go awry. Fast forward to this weekend, and Bitcoin is once again struggling to break through the $50,000 mark – a psychologically important milestone. The nerves are starting to work.
A drop below the recent low of $46,000 could open the door for further declines and threaten the upward trend that has been underway for nearly a year …. , at least in the short term. The pseudonymous trader Rekt Capital estimates that BTC could reach a bottom between $38,000 and $45,000 if this level is not maintained.
Traders are now beginning to speculate that Bitcoin may continue to trade sideways. The sluggish macroeconomic environment, dominated by rising bond yields and falling technology stocks, certainly doesn’t help.
On the other hand, there are always measures to ward off the gloom…. as long as everything is in order. TheGlassnode Reserve Risk indicator suggests that the BTC rally is still in the – phase from start to finish after this week’s setback. Oh, that’s great. Then there’s nothing to worry about.
analyst advises Tesla to buy back Bitcoins as shares plummet in
Tesla is now under pressure to sell its $1.5 billion stake in Bitcoin. Since the electric car maker announced the acquisition of its cryptography business, TSLA shares have fallen 30.8%.
Gary Black, former CEO of Aegon Asset Management, tweeted that Tesla would generate positive momentum if it switched to cryptocurrency, adding: Very unlikely, but the shareholders would be very helpful.
The price correction of Bitcoinalso affected MicroStrategy, a business intelligence company with over 91,000 BTC. In less than a month, the MSTR share price has fallen from to 52.8% .
The company doesn’t seem too concerned. MicroStrategy bought another 205 BTC this week, spending $10 million to coincide with the latest drop.
Although the software company began investing its existing assets in BTC in 2020, when Bitcoin was trading at around $ $10,000, recent purchases have yet to bear fruit.
Les Rois de Léon release an album titled NFT
Buckle up… We have so much news from the NFT. One of the most exciting songs of the week was the announcement of the release of Kings of Leon’s eighth album – and that’s just a taste.
Three types of TNFs are offered, the rarest of which offers lifetime front row seats to Kings of Leon concerts, a private driver, and the opportunity to hang out with the band before shows.
The excitement in the TNF industry doesn’t stop there. The rarest of them all, Homer Pepe, was tested this week for .205 ETH …. which, at the time of writing, is worth 323 000 $ . Meanwhile, the NFT, consisting of 100 individual works by 100 different artists, sold out at Rarible in minutes.
Aavegotchis – the NFTs inspired by the Tamagotchi devices that were so fashionable in the late 1990s and early 2000s – were broken in less than a minute. And while NBA Top Shot sales continue to rise, Michael Rubin, CEO of Fanatics, said: It’s almost too crazy what’s happening now.
As if that wasn’t crazy enough, Banksy’s original work was burned and turned into NFT. Ironically, the piece is called Idiots and is about buyers at an art auction selling a piece that says: I can’t believe you idiots actually buy this crap.
Tether has been hit with a ransom demand for 500 BTC, but says he will not pay.
Tros, who is still recovering from his confrontation with the New York Attorney General, is really struggling to rest at the moment.
This week hackers threatened to release secret company documents that would have belonged to Tether…. would have belonged unless you paid a ransom of 500 CTBs, a whopping $23.8 million at the time.
Tooser announced the event on Twitter, under the title We Don’t Pay.
The deadline has passed, but it’s still unclear if the extortionists are just trying to get their hands on the money, or if it’s all part of a larger effort to undermine Terah and the rest of the Bitcoin ecosystem.
In any case, those who seek to harm the Tether are becoming increasingly desperate, the society adds.
No prohibition of cryptography in India: Minister of Finance provides a very calibrated view
There is a new twist in the Will saga, isn’t there, about the proposed ban on cryptocurrency in India.
Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said Saturday that reports that the government is seeking a total ban on cryptocurrency are exaggerated. He stressed that the rules would not be as stringent as had been previously reported and that the authorities were determined to adopt a very calibrated approach.
The comments will certainly be useful to crypto entrepreneurs and investors in the world’s second most populous country after years of uncertainty.
At one time, India was considering introducing prison terms of up to 10 years for those caught trading cryptocurrencies – in addition to a hefty fine. The country’s central bank also banned banks from offering services to crypto entrepreneurs, which led to the collapse of several of these companies. These restrictions were sensationally overturned by the Supreme Court last year.
Sitharaman’s recent comments contradict a Bloomberg report last month that said crypto assets will soon be completely banned in India.
Winners and losers
Tumblr media
At the end of the week bitcoin is $48,445.86, ether is $1,607.45 and XRP is $0.46. Total market capitalization is 1,484,740 419,357.
Among the first 100 cryptocurrencies, the top three altcoins of the week are the Chiliz, the Enjin and the Flow. The three best altcoiners of the week are: Cardano, 1inch and Stellar.

Kyle Davis, co-founder of Three Arrows Capital
Bitcoin is dramatically opposed to macroeconomics.
Lex Moscow, Director of Moscow Capital
The fact that Bitcoin remains strong, even as the GBTC acts as a resistance group to slow it down, is very reassuring and shows me that the global story, the story of accelerated adoption, remains intact.

I think Reed Hastings is a very innovative man, he has a lot of creativity and I think he still holds the reins of Netflix, so I think this could be the next big project.

What we see built today with cryptography is just a proof of concept. As the technology improves, becomes cheaper and faster, there will be new applications and maybe even something that will replace what we now know as cryptography.
Cuban Mark, billionaire
I consider HOMERPEPE to be the most important TNF in the history of art because its sale in 2018 influenced many artists of original cryptography to believe that we can align our art with the work by creating a market and a belief around this new technology.

There are many risks and obstacles to Bitcoin’s progress. But when you weigh these potential obstacles against opportunities, you come to the conclusion that Bitcoin is at an inflection point.

The price of Bitcoinwill be infinite – Kraken CEO
Hodler’s Digest has predicted pretty high bitcoin prices over the years – $ $500,000 $ here, $ $1 million $ there. Determined not to back down, the Kraken’s CEO has gone on the offensive…. The prediction that BTC would cost infinitely.
Jesse Powell believes that one day humanity will simply stop pricing Bitcoin in U.S. dollars – he told Bloomberg that a price of $0.9 to $0.9 million is appropriate 10 years from now.
Maybe the research of the company he runs is a little more realistic. Kraken’s latestanalysis suggests Bitcoin could reach its next peak between $75,000 and $306,000.

Dev says Meerkat’s $31 million financial abuse was a test and the funds will be returned.
The alarm was sounded this week when Meerkat Finance, a decentralized financial protocol based on Binance’s smart channel, lost $31 million – just hours after its launch.
The team first claimed to be victims of exploitation, but then deleted all of its social media feeds. Because of the nature of the crime, some people think it’s a cowboy scam.
But there may also be good news for the victims of this exploit, which is one of the most significant in DeFi’s short history. – Developer Meerkat Finance published an article on the newly created Telegram channel, revealing that the exploit was a test of user greed and subjectivity – adding that the team was preparing to compensate all those affected.

Endangered Pinnipeds, part 3
Caspian seal, Pusa caspica
The last of the three earless, or “true seals” in this series, the Caspian seal is listed as endangered since 2008, before that it was “vulnerable” since 1994.
As it name reveals, it lives in the Caspian sea, in the southwest of Asia, where the coastlines belong to Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Russia, Iran and Azerbaijan.
They are related to the Baikal seal which lives in Lake Baikal in central Russia, and both are believed to descend from ringed seals who made it south into the Caspian and Baikal about two million years ago.
They are one of the smallest species of seals at about the weight of a man, and less than 1.4 meters in length. And, strange for a mammal, they can keep growing slowly for up to four decades.
Tumblr media
Photo: Pavel Erokhin
Like many other earless seals, they give birth to the familiar white, 5 kg pups on ice sheets in the north during winter.
Historically, the population is thought to have numbered roughly one million seals. Today, they have been reduced to only 10% of that, numbering under 100 000 animals.
Commercial hunts of the species began in the late 1700s, with kills averaging around 150 000 (and upwards of 300 000) per year in the 1800s. This carried on into the 1900s, when they were still taking up to 227 000 seals in one year in the 1930s. During this, the numbers fell, but the seals kept being killed on an industrial level until 1996, and by that time only about 14 000 seals were taken annually.
This stop in 1996 was only temporary however, and the Caspian seal is still being killed, in both commercial and “scientific” hunting in Russia, with dozens or hundreds of animals being taken annually. In the 2003-2004 season, 4600 seals were taken.
This hunt takes place under a quota of 18 000 animals, divided among the countries sharing the Caspian sea, but obviously never comes close to reaching it.
They are hunted for their skins to be used as clothing, and the blubber as medicine, fish bait, and even cattle feed in Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
While they are still being hunted commercially (at, very roughly, 0.1% of the population being taken annually, if we average it at ~100 animals killed per year), new threats are rising for the species.
They are being caught as bycatch in sturgeon fisheries among others. In the 2008-2009 season, at least 1200 seals were killed as bycatch, over 90% of them in illegal sturgeon fisheries.
However, the study sampling reflected less than 10% of the overall poaching activity in the north Caspian, so the actual by-catch is likely to be substantially higher.
Iran is recorded as causing the accidental death of about 500 seals annually.
Tumblr media
Among natural predators are wolves and eagles, and the species has experienced several recent mass mortality events.
In 1997 and 2000, several thousand seals died at once, believed to have been due to Canine Distemper Virus.
Other threats include an invasive jellyfish species causing a decline in fish stocks, contamination of lead, copper and zinc.
They are not officially known to be declining, but the IUCN states all of these threats combined are probably unsustainable, leading to a continued decline of the species.

Finding Car Leasing Companies Online
I would guess that based on top of the retail prices, the actual sale price would be discounted by $1,Bmw zero down lease-$1,500. That could mean a low priced expectation would place the benefit at $6,000-$7,000. There 's no offer which know of the pays remaining lease payments for another leasing company or factory. So, in other words; If Chrysler is providing to pay back Toyota, it comes with usually some more towards story. What season you leave to get yourself a car leasing websites largely depends upon your responsibility. However, most of the time, it is possible to postpone buying cars for 4-5 months and even a year. There are specific periods like July to October and christmas days, available to get better great deals. The reason being that during July to October, dealers try their much better to clear old stocks, which puts you in an advantageous disorder. During Christmas too, sale of cars registers a decline, force that lies below are engrossed in buying other goods and gift items. Picking best people to have an account with: As it can be see coming from all of previously mentioned picking the ideal people to work with is really very interesting. Chose someone you can trust, who characteristics good status and others have had good experiences with. If you follow previously mentioned information you will obtain a very happy and satisfying leasing information. Although car leasing websites makes costlier vehicles less pricey - try to get great leasing deals for lower priced models as well. There are numerous economy models that be cheaper than $200 a few months. There are many different websites to be seen on the world wide web which not really provide you with resources to calculate out exactly how much mortgage will amount to. But may try that may you getting the right deal which means that arrange with regard to you to cash lowest monthly interest on the loan possible. However in order upon their to offer you with the payment details you will first will need to fill out their form by providing them with lots of the following data. You need to try checking your latest credit history a several months before getting a car leasing websites lease since the entire correcting the errors employed in your credit reports usually last almost one month. Due to this, filing your complaint or petition that would correct result ahead of time is important. Next, consider buying the most up-tp-date car naturally last year's model. Every September, this device roll the new year's model. However the dealers continue to have plenty on the old ones left provide and they'll be grateful if you would take them off their hands. At times you will even find a 2 year old cheap car that will still be new. Some customers may research the actual cost of your car, . . .. Keep in mind the card dealer has products and are a certain quantity of revenue on each car leasing websites. Unless the car is in very high demand, most dealers in order to be able to trade you vehicle for $1,000 more in comparison invoice prices. Let the MSRP and invoice price be amazing. Always negotiate down from the best number. Finally, some dealerships offer incentives to entice you to buy a car. Don't fall for that trick. When they give that you free tv to buy a car keep in mind that the car is about 100 times the value of a tv and may get just go down the street to Wal*Mart and acquire a tv for $100. As you're able see tend to be many associated with hosting benutzerkonto. Whether you occasion business hosting or you mean to have a school site or maybe you are simply planning on getting as little hobby site up and running, you have a decision to make, what hosting package a person chose. That. Unless you're looking for an absolute "lemon" you probably don't want to get a car that has 100, 000 miles and is also only few years old. A previously owned car dealer especially within the luxury segment should make sure to have stuffs that are irresistible to the open public. Cars in accord with local driving conditions. A 3 year-old car shouldn't have more than 30,000 to 50,000 miles on all involved. Off lease used vehicles are usually the best choice, but if you ever a hard fast rule, just something to just take. In a high end vehicle leasing you won't have devote for fundamental value among the car. The monthly payments can be as little as half of the you pay on an average loan. How is that a possibility? Well, it's quite simple. You are basically paying for getting a pre-determined value of the motorhome. As soon since Bmw zero down lease ends you can chose between paying develop and nurture (the part of it's price that hasn't depreciated), or let the leasing company keep so it. Many dealers will let you that leasing is a comfortable deal than purchasing, and lure you in together with promise of low premiums. Sounds good in the beginning but of course there are loop cracks. Many of the catches they don't explain become the long contracts and stiff penalties for ducking out early pertaining to your lease! Among other things like limited mileage allowances, and hefty repair costs with additional charges harmful offers too . mile you're going over your contracted limit. Now you may claim that a mere .10 to .20 cents a mile isn't much but they'll quickly accumulate!

Banks Turn Away Customer Deposits due to Negative Interest Rates in Germany – Finance Bitcoin News
Tumblr media
In Germany, banks would refuse customer deposits because of the negative interest rate imposed by the European Central Bank (ECB). Some banks even offer online tools that allow customers to accept deposits from other banks.
Negative ECB interest rates force banks to liquidate customer deposits
Banks in Germany are telling customers to park their deposits elsewhere because they can no longer afford the cost of parking them at the ECB, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday. The central bank has set negative interest rates since 2014. The interest rate currently stands at -0.5%, and according to the central bank, it is not expected to change in the near future.
After years of trying to pass on negative interest rates to customers, for example by charging higher fees, German banks are now waiving customer deposits, the publication adds :
Banks are even offering new online tools to help customers deposit money elsewhere.
More than 260 banks in Germany now charge private customers negative interest rates, compared with only 57 before the pandemic last March, according to the price comparison portal Verivox.
The charges are between 0,4 % and 0,6 % for deposits between EUR 1 000 and EUR 500 000. Last November, another comparison portal, Biallo, discovered that more than 300 banks were applying negative interest rates. Since last year, the largest German banks, Deutsche Bank and Commerzbank, have been charging their new customers 0.5% per year for holding large amounts of money.
German banks suffer more from negative interest rates than in most other European countries because Germans are large depositors. According to the ECB, about 30% of all household deposits in the euro area are in Germany.
The coronavirus pandemic also played an important role in amplifying the effect of negative interest rates on banks in Germany. Deposits in the country rose 6% last year to a record 2.55 trillion, as people spent less during shutdowns and travel restrictions. Publication added:
The savings rate has shot up among homebuyers. And massive ECB bailout programs have flooded banks with excess deposits.
