マーチンネックリセット　Martin 000-28ec　マーティンギターリペア

マーチンギター000-28ecエリッククラプトンモデルを修理お預かりいたしました。

弦高が1弦3.0mm、6弦3.6mmと高めですがサドルには余裕がなく、ネックをチェックしてみるとボディジョイント部から起き上がるいわゆる「ネック元起き」の状態でした。 そのほかにもバインディングの剥がれ等もあり、合わせてリペアを行いました。

フレットの頭の延長線がブリッジのちょうど上あたりに来るのが適正なネックセット角度ですが定規を当て計測するとブリッジに当たってしまいます。

元起きもひどく、ヒール浮きも発生していましたのでネックジョイントに問題があると判断しネックリセットをして修理します。

14フレット以降の指板をヒーターで熱し、接着剤を軟化させボディトップから剥がします。

15フレットを抜いたところに穴をあけそこから蒸気を送り込み接着剤を軟化させネックを外します。

ネックが外れました。数日乾かしてからボディ、ネックともに接着面を綺麗にします。

ネックセット角度、センターラインが適切になるようにボディとの接地面を削り調整していきます。

このような台形の接合方法を日本では蟻継ぎと呼び、英語では鳩のしっぽの形に似ていることからダブテイル（dovetail）ジョイントと呼びます。マーチンは伝統的にこの手法を使っていますがこのギターに関してはボディ側とネック側でダブテイルの角度が違い、面ではなく線で接着しているような状態でした。大量生産ではこのくらいの精度が限界なのでしょうか。特にマーチンの場合、加工の順番が ①ネックと指板を接着 ②ネックとボディを別々に塗装 ③ネックとボディを接着 という順番なので高い密着度のジョイントに加工するのはかなり難しいと思います。

いっそテイラーギターの様なネジを使ったボルトオンジョイントの方が大量生産での精度は安定しやすいと思います。

このままではジョイントが緩いのでマホガニーの薄板(シム)を接着します。ダブテイルの角度を合わせるため片側が厚いシムを製作しました。

ここからチョークフィッティングと呼ばれる方法でジョイントのはめ込み具合を調整します。ボディ側の溝にチョークを塗りネックをはめ込むと接触する部分だけにチョークが付きます。次にそのチョークのついたところだけを削ります。

これを何度も繰り返し最終的に全体が密着するようなったらいよいよ接着します。

接着剤の乾燥後、15フレットにあけた穴を埋めフレットを打ち込みます。ネックリセット工程で熱やスチームを使用していますので簡単にフレットのすり合わせをします。

新たにサドルを作り弦高を1弦2.0mm、6弦2.5mmに調整します。フレットの延長線はブリッジの1mmほど上にきておりサドルの高さも適正になりました。これによって弦がサドルを押さえつける力が増え、弦振動がよりボディに伝わりやすくなります。

ナットも弦がかなり埋まっていたので上面を削り整形しました。

ネックリセットと並行してボディバックのバインディング剥がれ修理も行います。 バインディング素材が縮みクビレの部分に剥がれがあります。

縮んだ分、長さが足りなくなりそのままでは貼り付けることができないので一度ネック側までバインディングを外します。塗膜をなるべく割らないようにカミソリの刃で塗膜を切りながら慎重に作業します。

接着します。接着剤は塗膜を侵さないタイトボンドⅢを使用しています。

縮みの分だけ隙間ができますのでおなじアイボロイド柄のセルで埋めます。塗装が日焼けして飴色になっていますのでこのあとタッチアップして色味を合わせます。

続いてピックアップも取り付けます。ベースドラムのいるバンド等での使用は想定していないとの事なのでコンデンサーマイクでより生音に近い音の出るL.R.Baggs Lyricを選択しました。 000の場合、ギターによってはこのようにブリッジプレートのボディエンド側にマイクをセットします。音質的にもPA機器でしっかりとチェックして位置決めしてますので特に問題ありません。

サウンドホール縁にボリュームコントローラーをつけます。

これですべての作業が完了しました。弦振動の伝わりが良くなり、ダブテイルジョイントの密着度も上がっていますので生音の改善が実感できます。000特有の5弦開放A音がとても気持ち良いです。このたびはご用命ありがとうございました。

How To Play Acoustic Guitar Like Eric Clapton

Eric Patrick Clapton, CBE (born 30 March 1945), is an English rock and blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He is the only three-time inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: once as a solo artist and separately as a member of the Yardbirds and of Cream. Clapton has been referred to as one of the most important and influential guitarists of all time. Clapton ranked second in Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” and fourth in Gibson’s “Top 50 Guitarists of All Time“. He was also named number five in Time magazine’s list of “The 10 Best Electric Guitar Players” in 2009.

The truth: there is no single blog post, magazine article, or website blurb that could sum up this legendary, prolific, and iconic guitar player. He’s simply amazing. The guitar worship is real.

Similarly, there’s no way to capture all the guitars (and there’s a lot!), gear, lesson material, or recordings of Clapton.

So, instead, consider this just a quick wine tasting – a sample of his guitars, a few acoustic-oriented lesson materials, and some quick links to some great albums.

Eric Clapton’s Guitars:

Fender 1956 Stratocaster Brownie

This Strat is called ‘Brownie’, and is reportedly one of Eric Clapton’s favorite guitars. Clapton said that he used ‘Brownie’ throughout the entire Layla album, including the title track – the iconic, world-renown, upbeat, and downcast love song. According to purchase records, Clapton bought this guitar on May 7th, 1967 while he was still with the group, Cream. Clapton has used ‘Brownie’ extensively in his recording and performing career.

19th Century Salvador Ibanez

Eric Clapton commented that this guitar has “..a great sound..” and that he kept it as “…a dressing room guitar…“. Lee Dickson recalled that Clapton had this guitar for a long time and that he took it to the dressing room at The Royal Albert Hall for Clapton during one of his seasons there in the 1990s.

Martin 0-18 Mid ’40s Natural

Built in Martin’s Nazareth, PA workshop, the 0-18 was smaller than the 00-18 and the 000-18, but larger than earlier parlor-style guitars. Like other 18 series Martins, the 0-18 is defined by a Mahogany body (starting in 1917), Spruce top, and minimimal cosmetic flourishes. Also like many classic Martins, the design of the 0-18 changed little from the World War II era until production ended in the mid-’90s.

06 Martin HD-35 Acoustic with LR Baggs Anthem OHSC (HD-28, D-35, D-28, 000-28ec⠀ ⠀ https://buff.ly/2GtN8Np⠀ ⠀ Very nice Martin HD-35 with no cracks, or repairs. Has a nice low setup and a ton of projection and clarity. It shows minimal playwear just some faint scratches and small indentations. The neck is straight, the top is flat, and the guitar still has a lot of saddle exposed. The action is 2.0 mm 6th string and 1.5 mm 1st string. There is zero buzzing and the intonation is dead on throughout the frets. It has a professionally installed LR Baggs Anthem that really captures the tone and texture of the guitar well. It has a big low end but very clear with brilliant highs. It is just an all around excellent guitar.
