🌞🌜 - Is your character an early bird or night owl? What makes them that way? 📓 - If your character keeps a journal, what is the most secret thought they keep in it? 📰 - An obituary for your character was found in the local paper this morning. What did it say?
Get to know my character through an ask!
🌞🌜 - Is your character an early bird or night owl? What makes them that way?
he likely sleeps at decent hours and decent times because 1) he has villain missions to finish in the daytime and that requires a clear head at all times, 2) before that he played basketball pretty regularly and normal hours are just good for the body all right, 3) he might be a nerd but he's smart so why does he need to stay up late studying even more...?
right, so jock + nerd = jerd? nock? i need a better name for this combination... the only times he'd stay up would be if he's stressed. :3
📓 - If your character keeps a journal, what is the most secret thought they keep in it?
probably not, but if he did it'd likely be something like:
"how hard do i have to try and fit in before i forget i don't belong at all?"
or something self-questioning like that
📰 - An obituary for your character was found in the local paper this morning. What did it say?
"Local good samaritan gets run over by car while trying to save overweight cat stuck in a pothole in the middle of the road"
figured he'd try too hard to do some good and end up dying for it by accident oops but if it was in canon it'd be more like:
"Evil villain overlord redeems himself with heroic sacrifice to save the world after inside sources reveal he was Not So Bad After All. Memorial service to be held next Saturday, entire population of [City] expected to attend. Local hero found mourning over his death site this morning."
yeah like that

Dragon Haven Question Time:
1. What were your favourite moments?
Thymara teaching Alise how to fish
The flood
Sedric waking up in Relpda's jaws and realising her feelings for him (and every single Seldric & Relpda interaction)
Erek and Detozi gossiping and being all shy and awkward about asking the other to meet in person for the first time
Sedric confessing to tricking Alise twice (first about his affair with Hest and then about him trying to collect dragon parts) and her forgiving him
Discovering Elderling ruins along the Rain Wild river
The one cute Sedric/Carson scene in the book (beautifully illustrated by perplexingly)
Thymara confronting Sintara about her wings
Rapskal coming back ♥
2. Favourite quotes?
“Hey, Heeby! Heeby, look here, look at me. Heeby, listen. Listen, girl. Help Mercor turn the copper dragon onto her back. Understand? Help him turn her over? Can you do it? Can my big strong dragon do that for me? Sure she can. Come on, Heeby. Put your nose under here, right here, just like Mercor. That’s my girl. Now lift and push, Heeby, lift and push!”
“Silver! You’re alive!” There was no mistaking the joy in Sylve’s shout of greeting to the dragon. He turned his head toward her and, for a moment, looked almost intelligent.
“I belong to myself,” she said quietly. “To get, you must give, Sintara.”
????
“Jess is fond of claiming to be both worldly wise and well educated. By which I think he means that he once read a book.”
“Greft changes the rules, it’s no risk for him, is it? He’s not the one who’s going to go into labor out here with no midwife. He’s not the one who’ll have to deal with a baby who can’t survive. I don’t think he’s ever wondered what he’s going to do with that baby if Jerd dies and the baby lives.” “How can you think of such things?” Tats was aghast. “How can you not think of them?” she retorted.
“What a worthless waste of your heart.”
He struggled briefly, trying to find his way back to his misery. And then, like a flame claiming a wick and sending forth life, he suddenly wondered why he was holding so tightly to that misery. He let go again.
“I am so beautiful!” “Oh, that you are, my lovely one.” “You were afraid in your dreams. Don’t be. I shall make you as beautiful as I am.”
“I love your smile.”
She covered her mouth and nose, and then she laughed around her hand. To her surprise, Sedric joined her, and suddenly they were both laughing together as they had not in Sa knew how long. Then somehow, he was crying instead, and her arms were around him, and she found she was crying, too. “It’s going to be all right,” she managed to say to him. “It’s going to be all right. I’ve got you, my friend. We’ll be fine.”
“Oh, she won’t be able to fly with them,” Tats told him quickly, as if fearing that Rapskal had hurt her feelings. “I heard Sintara tell her that. The dragon said she should just be grateful to have such beautiful wings. She won’t be able to fly with them.” Rapskal laughed merrily. “Oh, that’s what everyone said to me about Heeby, too. Don’t be silly. Of course she’ll be able to fly. She just has to try every day.” He leaned forward and spoke by her ear. “Don’t worry, Thymara. I’ll help you practice every day, just like I did with Heeby. You’ll fly.”

Sirius seafront promenade competition, South Russian Architecture Contest News, VEB.RF, Design
Sirius seafront promenade competition
6 Jul 2021
Location: Sirius, Krasnodar Krai, south western Russia
Architects from across the globe are invited to create the concept of a seafront promenade for an emerging Black Sea urban area
Sirius seafront promenade design competition
Sirius, the first federal territory in Russia, is initiating the competition for an architectural and urban planning concept of its 7,5 kilometre long seafront promenade. The open call for teams and individual candidates from Russia and beyond is launched on the Sirius competition website.
In late September the Jury will shortlist 6 participants for Phase 2, of which four teams will be experienced in similar large-scale projects and two are emerging / early career / not yet established professionals. This way, architects of the next generation will be able to take part in the contest along with acclaimed offices.
The winner and the finalists will be announced in early December 2021. The prize money amount is 26 million rubles.
The candidates will design a concept for a multifunctional urban space for people from all walks of life, from seamen to artists, and envisage an infrastructure for international or national cultural, sportive and educational events – festivals, concerts, exhibitions, and public talks by artists or popular scientists. Softscaping and wind protection solutions are expected to create an all-season environment comfortable for people of every age, from infants to seniors.
The seafront must become an iconic landmark for Sirius – the city of the 2014 Winter Olympics and the Sirius educational center for gifted students from all over Russia. A distinctive skyline with curated panoramic viewpoints and easy access to sea must transform the place into a vibrant world-wide attraction.
***
The open international competition for the architectural and urban development concept for the embankment for the first federal territory in Russia ‘Sirius’ was organized by VEB.RF and the Center for Urban Studies of the Sirius University of Science and Technology. The winning fund of the competition amounts to 26 million rubles excluding VAT.
Russian and international architects and landscape designers are invited to participate. There is also a quota for young professionals. On this week...there has been so much good stuff coming out it's hard to keep up. We've got new stuff from Hoody, Oceanfromtheblue, Penomeco, and more. This episode sort of sandwiches some hard hip-hop tracks in between some really groove-driven, soulful RnB joints.
Of those RnB joints are two tracks off Oceanfromtheblue's new mixtape, "LOVELIKEBOYZANDGIRLS," which is amazing. I barely came across this artist recently and have been loving the work so far. Head over to his soundcloud (soundcloud.com/oceanfromtheblue)and get the new mixtape for free!
Beyond that, Hoody is back with her sultry vocals accompanied by Jay Park once again. This time with a track produced by Slom, whom I have played multiple times on the show. In addition to that, get down to some new Penomeco and B Jyun and most importantly...Enjoy!

Neogobius melanostomus: A Well “Rounded” Case Study for the Great Lakes Region
Tumblr media
In recent history, numerous invasive aquatic species have travelled to the Laurentian Great Lakes and brought with them a host of environmental, economic, and social problems. Round goby, aka Neogobius melanostomus (pictured above), has joined creatures such as zebra mussels, sea lamprey, and phragmites on the long list of organisms than have set up shop in the Great Lakes region despite the fact that they definitely aren’t supposed to be there. So, let’s talk about round goby, the damage they cause, and the potential lessons we can learn from them.
First discovered in the Great Lakes region in the St. Clair River in 1990, the round goby has covered a lot of ground: they now occupy all five Great Lakes and have entered the mouths of many connected rivers as well. Like their fellow invaders, the zebra mussel, the round goby is native to the Caspian Sea, Black Sea, and the Sea of Azov in Eastern Europe. Coincidentally, most managers believe that the two arrived in the Great Lakes in the same way: in the ballast water discharge from international shipping vessels.
Tumblr media
These little fish aren’t very striking: young gobies tend to be gray, while older fish are mottled black and brown. Their pelvic fins are fused, acting like a suction cup so that the fish may hold on to stones. The only notable markings they have is the single spot on their first dorsal fin. However, insignificant as they may look, they have had disastrous consequences for the Great Lakes’ native fishes.
What’s so bad about round goby?
Round gobies are ravenous eaters of native fishes and their young. Goby feed on young fish and fish eggs, causing declines smaller native fishes (like sculpins, darters, and logperch) and sport fishes. In addition to preying on small native fishes, goby also compete with them for food and habitat.
Round goby can easily adapt their appetites to fit whatever food source is most abundant, which in many cases is zebra mussels (picture below, encroaching on a native mussel). While this may seem like a positive aspect, this means that goby have a greater number of possible food sources to pull from, allowing them to outcompete native fishes.
There is also concern over the round goby’s abilities to act as a vector for disease and toxins. How is this possible?
1.            Zebra mussels can act as hubs for avian botulism. As round gobies consume mussels, they may distribute the neurotoxin to birds that consume them
2.            When gobies consume mussels, they may acquire sediment related toxins that could be transferred to predators higher up on the food chain
Tumblr media
Who cares?
I imagine that, by this point, you may be tired of hearing about invasive species in the Great Lakes. I completely understand. Our beloved Great Lakes have become so inundated with disruptive organisms that it can be very easy to dismiss one more fish that decided to hitchhike. After all, if you don’t fish, why should you care about round goby?
While it easy to think about invasive species in ecological or environmental terms, the tendrils of their impact often extends far beyond the lakes that they inhabit. For Great Lakes states, a thriving fish population is the lifeblood of a healthy economy. According to the Department of Natural Resources at Cornell University, recreation fishing has an estimated value range of $393 million to $1.47 billion per year in the Great Lakes region (and this is in 2012 dollars!). This value is not restricted to the fish themselves, rather, it expands into the tourist industry that has been built around fishing in the Great Lakes. Every time someone decides to take a fishing trip, not only do they buy a license and fishing gear, they also purchase gas, food, and lodging. Many towns around the Great Lakes have been built on the foundation of a healthy fish population.
These benefits extend to people who commercially fish the Great Lakes as well (pictured below). The value of fish sold by state and tribal commercial operations is estimated to be worth 10-12 million dollars per year in the state of Michigan, with the overall impact on the economy estimated to be 4-5 times greater. While there are far fewer commercial fishers than recreational ones, commercial fishers bring their own value to their communities. For example, in this Great Lakes Now video Net Income, a commercial fisher-woman reports that commercial fishing can offer crucial access to protein for those who lack the money, time, or physical ability to go fishing themselves.
Tumblr media
What can we do about round goby?
Unfortunately, according to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the round goby is here to stay. Given that the gobies live on the floors of the lakes and there is no way to control them without hurting other fish, there is little that can be done to get rid of them. Currently, natural resource managers are more concerned with preventing round goby from spreading to other bodies of freshwater. If you would like to know how you can help, here’s how:
·         If you come across Round Goby in a water body, and you are unsure if it has been documented there before, report it to your local conservation author
·         don’t use round goby as bait-live round goby are illegal bait in Great Lakes states
·         if you are using live bait, dispose of it properly
·         wash boating and angling equipment after each use
·         tell your neighbors about round goby and the effects they can have
Tumblr media
Next Steps:
If there is a lesson to take from the proliferation of the Round Goby, it is one of preparation. It is no secret that humans have irreversibly affected the world around us, and invasive species such as the round goby add on to that long list of examples. However, we still have the potential to learn from our mistakes. The beautiful thing about scientific research is that we can use the data we have amassed from studying round goby and other invasive species to ensure to the best of our abilities that invasions will not happen again. In addition, we can choose to support policies the protect our native ecosystems.
According to an article published in Annual Review of Environment and Resources, preventing invasive species from entering new habitat is more cost-effective policy than attempting to get rid of them after the fact. While it is too late for us to do this with round goby, speaking to your local and state representatives about these issues can prevent history from repeating itself. You can advocate for some of the below actions to be taken in order to keep the Great Lakes great.
·         Regulations on the trade of live organisms (this could include the pet or agricultural trade)
·         Monitoring of modes of transportation that could potentially carry invasive species, both internationally and locally
·         Monitoring of highly trafficked areas so invasive species can be detected early
·         International agreements to prevent the movement of invasive species
Tumblr media
Some of these ideas are already being addressed. For example, the National Invasive Species Act of 1996 was created, in part, to stop ships from spreading invasive species with ballast water (which is what got this whole round goby issue started to begin with). Part of what set this off was the invasion of zebra mussels which were first sited in the Great Lakes in 1988, 2 years before round goby. Perhaps if some of the above strategies had been implemented with gusto after the mussels were first found, our present situation would have been avoided and we would not be talking about round goby.
If you are interested in learning more about round goby, invasive species, or the importance of healthy fish populations, please feel free to check out the sources I used (listed below). I also encourage you to do some investigating of your own!

8 Things B2B Marketers Need To Know About Reddit in 2021
What do B2B marketers stand to gain by using Reddit? Just how effective is Reddit for advertising and organic marketing communication, and what are some of the top tips and advice for B2B marketers new to Reddit or those looking to expand their presence on the social media platform? Let’s take a look at the answers to these questions and more, including eight things B2B marketers need to know about social news aggregator and discussion platform Reddit, including why more businesses than ever will be using the platform in 2021 and beyond. While by no means a thorough guide to marketing with Reddit, we'll explore what it is, who uses it, what it's doing to help marketers, how some B2B marketers are using it, plus some of the latest news from the social media platform.
1 — What Is Reddit & Who Uses It?
As one of the world’s most used websites and the fifth most-visited in the U.S., Reddit presently counts some 430 million average monthly active users, generating more than 30 billion monthly views of user-generated content in over 130 thousand message board communities. 74 percent of consumers in a joint Reddit and YPulse survey said in a whitepaper that Reddit — founded 15 years ago — is where they learn about the topics they love the most. Earlier this year our senior content marketing manager Joshua Nite advised B2B marketers to proceed, but with some caution, when considering Reddit, in “6 Unconventional Social Channels for B2B Marketing.” “If your target audience is on Reddit, it’s worth testing the waters with a few sponsored posts. Just keep it transparent, honest and genuine: There’s a whole sub-Reddit devoted to mocking tone-deaf marketing,” Joshua urged. In my article “B2B Marketing Mythbusters: Dispelling 10 Common Myths with Extraordinary Marketing,” I used Reddit as an example of the myth that B2B marketers don’t use cool social media platforms, and pointed out that Fortune 500 firms now regularly have social media presences on the more fashionable social channels such as Giphy, Snapchat, Facebook Horizons — the social media giant’s foray into the virtual reality (VR) world — and certainly Reddit.
2 — What Is Reddit Doing To Help Marketers?
Reddit has noted its ability to let advertisers target their audiences, tell their stories, and measure their success, along with the opportunity to reach influential communities where millions of people are engaging with relevant content — all areas that B2B marketers are keen on improving. Reddit offers a variety of promoted post options that let marketers place ads throughout the platform as well as in the firm’s official app. To encourage businesses to try advertising on the platform, over the past year Reddit has partnered with three research firms and released report data showing some of the advantages Reddit offers over other social media sites. In conjunction with Verto Analytics, Reddit has explored how the platform offers a unique path to driving purchases, in “Reddit’s Role in the Path to Purchase.” The study compared some 1,500 instances of product research on Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and Pinterest, and found that Reddit users evaluate just over twice as many brands in up to four times as many research sessions as on other platforms, with the notable exclusion of LinkedIn*, traditionally the leading social media platform among B2B marketers, which was not included in the survey. The study noted that Reddit users decide on purchases nine times faster than on other social platforms, spend 15 percent more, and are some 13 percent more likely to share positive messages about a brand both online and offline. For B2B marketers dealing with often lengthy sales cycles, some of the speed advantages seen for Reddit could be a welcome experience. Reddit users appear to spend more time in the consideration stage of the purchasing journey than those on other platforms — with its 32 percent tally versus 20 percent for other platforms, and they also tend to spend less time in the decision making stage. The study also found that a whopping 90 percent of consumers trust the research they do using Reddit more than other websites or apps, a situation that will appeal to B2B marketers who have been working hard to rebuild eroded trust in marketing, as our CEO Lee Odden explored recently in "In Search of Trust: How Authentic Content Drives Customer Experience." Earlier this year Reddit joined with GlobalWebIndex to conduct a study examining Reddit’s increasing role in the online community space, resulting in the 29-page “The Era of We and the Rise of Online Communities” report. The report offers marketers looking to begin advertising on Reddit a fair amount of background data including what the platform's users want brands to be using Reddit for, with the leading desired qualities being content that is:

3 — How Are B2B Marketers Using Reddit?
“We're using data sets like Reddit, where the depth and the quality of conversation are extremely high in the communities,” Brian Wright, social media listening and intelligence leader at Wells Fargo recently told eMarketer. Jennifer Heyman, vice president of digital and social media at Wells Fargo, also mentioned Reddit in our annual social media marketing trends article, “13 Top B2B Social Media Marketing Trends & Predictions for 2020.” “My prediction is that brands will divert spend from large paid awareness campaigns to more targeted authentic conversations found on platforms like Reddit or in Facebook Groups,” Jennifer observed. “Essentially a shift of paid spend to the channels enabling a more focused and direct conversation with a customer. Personalization will continue to dominate social conversation, as brands emphasize both staying connected and infusing some fun into the message,” she added. [bctt tweet="Brands will shift social media focus from paid spend to channels enabling a more focused and direct conversation with a customer. @jheyman " username="toprank"] Wells Fargo also mentions Reddit in some of its educational resources, noting that “Sites like Reddit and Quora are also popular options where potential students can talk about applying to schools,” all joining to highlight the social media platform’s increasing presence among large businesses. Marketers promoting podcasts can connect with specific audiences on Reddit, or in its podcast-specific /r/podcasting sub-Reddit. Outside of that sub-Reddit, podcast marketers can generally find greater acceptance by first becoming known to an audience on the platform rather than posting links — to podcasts or any manner of outside content — right off the bat. Podcasts have seen increasing numbers of listeners during the pandemic, and we've examined the growing success of podcasting among B2B marketers in several recently article including "What B2B Podcasters Need to Know About SEO" and "B2B Podcasting: 20 Stats that Make the Marketing Case."
4 — AMAs Find A Welcome Home On Reddit
Reddit has also been a popular platform for hosting ask-me-anything (AMA) events, which can be a good way for B2B firms to begin utilizing the service if the interviewee is especially relevant to a particular topic. Even NASA used Reddit’s /askscience sub-Reddit for a recent AMA event with planetary scientists and astrobiologists, which the organization cross-promoted on its LinkedIn and other social media accounts. Technology giant Accenture also recently used its /accenture sub-Reddit for an AMA with its managing director Tristan Morel L'Horset, and last year the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity conducted its first Reddit-hosted AMA, featuring the noted festival’s managing director Simon Cook.
5 — Finding Relevant Audiences & Low-Hanging Keywords
In “The Guide to Unbundling Reddit,” Greg Isenberg, growth advisor at TikTok, has examined how Reddit has been affected by the pandemic, and looks at tools such as RedditList.com for finding relevant audiences. The folks at Backlinko recently explored how to use keyword-finding tools such as those from SEMrush or Ahrefs to find relevant Reddit keywords for marketing efforts, in “17 Advanced SEO Techniques for 2020.” HubSpot also recently took a look at some of the challenges and opportunities marketers face using Reddit, in “Everything Our Paid Team Learned From Attempting a Reddit Advertising Strategy,” finding the platform’s audience engagement a key advantage.
6 — Reddit’s Penchant For Technology Industry Professionals
With an especially avid cadre of technology enthusiasts, Reddit joins developer communities at GitHub, LinkedIn, HackerNews and others as go-to social destinations for engineers and programmers, making it a good choice for B2B firms in those sectors. The tech-savvy nature of many of the communities on Reddit may seem merciless and intimidating at first glance, however with proper interactions brands can find valuable communication possibilities on the platform, especially when B2B marketers take the time to understand their audience and the questions they're asking.
7 — Reddit Helps Customers Vent & Connect
Reddit joined Twitter and Facebook as the go-to platforms for venting about poor brand experiences online, with Twitter typically offering the speediest replies from brands — according to survey data from WhoIsHostingThis? With enough effort, B2B brands that genuinely care about addressing such concerns can find Reddit a good spot for building goodwill, as we explored in "Wow Your Crowd: How Content Marketers Can Create Powerful Audience Connections," and "B2B Marketers, Are Your Content Marketing Efforts Sparking Joy for Your Audience?"
8 — What Else Is Up With Reddit Lately?
Reddit is presently running an “Up the Vote” brand marketing campaign — its first — as Adweek’s Sara Jerde chronicled in “Reddit’s Cheeky Marketing Campaign Encourages Users to Vote.” In May Reddit tapped a former Pinterest and Google advertising leader in a move aimed at bringing more brand advertising activity to the platform, a shift that also saw the firm restructuring its sales team to adjust to changes brought by the global health crisis. This year Reddit also rolled out its most visible advertising format to date, with “Trending Takeover” 24-hour campaigns that offer prime exposure advertisers, after having tested the format with partners including Adobe* and Spotify. Adobe previously partnered with Reddit for a unique collaborative global digital canvas, with “Reddit X Adobe,” featuring thousands of artistic layers of imagery from users around the world.
