FLM Fast Facts

Five Little Monkeys (FLM) is a fanfiction/ original fiction world in the Castle fandom. 

The first book (published Jan. 2013) explores the idea of what if Castle and Beckett had quintuplets. How would their lives change?

Each subsequent story shows moments of this family including first birthdays, buying a new home, and going to Disney World. 

The one-shot Collection, Moments of Infinity (published in 2015), shows moments and bits and pieces of their lives as the quints grow into teenagers and adults. It is a five-generation world ranging from grandparents all the way down to great, great-grandchildren.

Discuss your work on the module in relation to professional practice and your current employment aspirations.

For this self-reflective essay, I found it useful to recap notes from previous modules. It made me realise how my skills and interests in animation have evolved. I have been required not only to apply my knowledge gathered across the three years but also to learn yet more skills and continue experimenting. It made me appreciate how much more I need to do to improve my skills as an animator.

Tackling a ‘brief’ in the final year was a new experience which proved worthwhile as there was an expectation to create a polished animated piece of work within set parameters and a time frame for a potential employer. I learnt many lessons:

I can develop an idea, create a moodboard, storyboard, animatics and undertake modelling elements quickly and confidently.

In terms of professional skills, background research is vital, to be familiar with branding, logos, style, and colour, have awareness of past creations, and awareness of current and past cultural capital so that the final creation complements a company’s trademark, is relatable and interests its target audience.

I can communicate effectively through PowerPoint slides, keep an organised blog, discuss plans, gain feedback as well as produce a presentation about the project.

The production process has been challenging as I struggled over the last few months of the course.

 In the second year, it was very rewarding to work with or alongside another student on projects in the studio, where thought-provoking ideas were exchanged, short cuts learnt and a sense of camaraderie, which provided motivation to keep up productivity and problem solving.

This final year, working alone in an often-empty studio or in accommodation was de-motivating and made resolving technical problems in the project tougher. I was over ambitious about the length of time it would take me to learn new software in my final project. A more analytical approach is needed about the techniques required and better designed storyboards where bridges between scenes are outlined. Considerable time would have to be realistically set aside for experimentation and development of new skills in a future project.

My strengths lie in 3D animation. If I continue; modelling, sculpturing and creating background scenes would be the area that interests me, particularly if the work involves deaf characters in movies or in TV. I recently achieved my Level 1 Sign Language Certificate and intend to continue being proficient in sign language. I received blanket emails from Northumbria Careers Service on future careers to discuss in person but this setup has accessibility/communication issues in my case. I am thinking of contacting three groups/individuals:

Signing Animation/California (asked for my showreel last year),

Martin Glover, a deaf visual artist who won the Lumiere 2023 commission for any volunteer opportunities,

FLM (Flashing Lights Media) who recently advertised 6th June workshop for 10 deaf people who want to learn what a TV runner involves and possibility to apply for a job just to explore what is out there.

And here’s part two! Or, as I like to call it, my reviews of the best movies of the MCU.

5th place: Spider-Man: Far From Home (9/10)

This is probably one of the most dividing Spider-Man movies we're ever going to have. Ask someone who claims they're a hardcore Spider-Man fan, and odds are they either really hate this movie or consider it the best one yet. For me, I enjoyed Spider-Man: Far From Home, but I do have some complaints. In some ways, the movie improves upon the original. MJ is a much better love interest than Liz ever will be, the action is top-notch (note to self, do a full scene breakdown on why the fight on Tower Bridge is the best fight scene in a Spider-Man movie), and this movie better understands the struggles of being Spider-Man. There are so many times when it's clear that Peter just wants to take a break and enjoy his vacation, but because he's him, he can't just stand by when people are in danger. Because it's not in his DNA. However, despite some improvements, I still think there are other elements that Spider-Man: Homecoming does better. As that movie has better comedy, a more tightly paced story, and especially a better villain.

Don't get me wrong, I do like Mysterio (it's not a spoiler if he's one of the most popular Spider-Man villains). The writers found a great way of adapting his character into something that fits this universe while also giving a scene that is everything Spider-Man fans would and should expect when they hear, "Mysterio is the villain." The problem is that not only does Vulture have better drive his plans and a more devious personality, but the "big reveal" this movie has with Mysterio is handled very poorly. I still like Far From Home, and I highly recommend it, but I'd be lying if I'd say that there's a reason why other people are less forgiving than me when it comes to this movie.

4th place: Spider-Man: Homecoming (9.5/10)

This is my favorite Spider-Man movie. And because Spider-Man is my favorite superhero, I couldn’t just save how much I love it into one to two paragraphs. So, here’s a more complex review instead.

3rd place: Thor: Ragnarok (9.5/10)

...WHERE! THE F**K! WAS THIS THOR MOVIE?! Seriously, we had boring stories, dull love interests, forgettable villains, and subpar action and comedy in the first two Thor movies. When this entire time we could have gotten an exciting story, a strong female character, two incredible villains, and one of the funniest films in the MCU with the third most epic final fight in the franchise?

...

No. That will not stand.

WHO WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS?! I demand to speak with the person who failed to give us an exciting trilogy whilst having the third movie shows us what we SHOULD HAVE gotten!

Joking aside, I really love this movie. Not only for the reasons I mentioned earlier but also because this film made me like Thor as a character. I didn't care about the guy we got in the first two movies. But the Thor in Thor: Ragnarok? This guy, I like. I would love to hang out with the guy, talk with him, get to know him...maybe even date him--The point is that Thor is ten times more interesting in this movie than he was in others.

Now, does that mean it's perfect? Pretty damn close, if you ask me. Sure, the fun comes to a grinding halt whenever we cut back to Asgard, the most boring planet in the universe. But you still get Cate Blanchett hamming it up as Hella, so what is there to complain about. It's so good that, you know what, I'm gonna do a full review of this movie. And not like a quick thoughts review like I did for Spider-Man: Homecoming. I mean a full-on analytical review, discussing everything this movie does right and wrong. And that will be coming...whenever the hell I have the time for it. Spring semester is coming up, after all.

But it will happen, and it will hopefully make it clear why Thor: Ragnarok is the best Thor movie. Period.

2nd place: Black Panther (9.5/10)

...I will never fully grasp how important this movie is. I'll come close and try as hard as I can, but by the end of the day, Black Panther wasn't made for me. It's made for a group of people that I will never be a part of, people who deal with so many more issues than me, and all I can do I feel empathy for them. And even though I'll never be the target audience for this film, I will always admit how good it is. The action is incredible, the message is more prominent now than it was back in 2018, and Killmonger is one of the best villains in the MCU, one that at times gives Thanos a run for his money. Not just because Killmonger has an understandable motive, or because he has a plan that's worthy of debate, or even because he's a great character in general. My reasoning is because Killmonger represents a perfect mirror for what T'Challa could have been if he let vengeance consume him in Captain America: Civil War. I'm not a fan of when these movies make the villain have the exact same powers as the hero because it's just a lame excuse to give both characters even ground. Here, making the hero and villain the same shows that this is what T'Challa could be if things went a little different, as they both have similar ideals and motivations but have divergent methods that their impulses drive.

There is so much this movie does right, which is why for every complaint (read: nitpick) this movie gets, I can't help but respond with, "Who cares?" Why does Killmonger getaway so effortlessly in a scene that comes immediately after the one that shows how unstoppable T'Challa can be? Who cares. Why does a movie called Black Panther barely focus on its titular character for a good chunk of the story? Who cares. Why is the CGI so butt ugly? Who...Actually, no. That I've got to give it to you. The CGI looks unfinished at times, and it becomes extra noticeable in the final fight between Black Panther and Killmonger. But still, that is nothing compared to the many, MANY, things that make this movie a damn near-masterpiece. And seeing how this might be the last great story we'll get with this character, then I'll take a damn near-masterpiece (Rest in power, Chadwick Boseman. Wherever you might be.)

1st Place: Avengers: Infinity War/Avengers: Endgame (10/10)

Yeah...both of these movies are the best, in my opinion. Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame is the perfect conclusion to the Infinity Saga. These movies tie up almost every loose ends in past films with a story that has been ten years in the making. Plus, ignoring that fact alone, these are both fantastic movies that balance tragedy with great comedy and character moments, a score that's music to the ears, and by far the best villain any of these flms had. While Killmonger is pretty damn good, there is no beating Thanos. Not only are his lines/monologues quotable, but he is the first villain who is close to having a point. That doesn't mean his evil plan is right like so many psychopaths claim. You see, he has reasoning that you can fully understand, but it's still a radical idea that is far from the right decision. And in Avengers: Endgame, you really see how much of a mad Titan he really is when he decides to go further with his plan. And that's barely scratching the surface of what makes him an awesome villain.

As for our heroes, both movies focus on a ton of them, each getting proper attention, with only a handful receiving the short end of the stick. This doesn't matter as the final battle has an army of superheroes--Let me repeat that: An army of superheroes going against one guy. And trust me when I say, where the battle of New York is worth watching The Avengers, the battle for the Universe is worth investing time into the MCU. Every minute is satisfying, making it all the easier to forget the valid complaints these movies have. Because despite the imperfections, everything Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame does incredibly well makes them both the best films in the MCU. Past, present, and future.

Luthers gonna get ya!Often I like to explain a film by referencing what films it is like.. and well here goes...Imagine Female Trouble was really about an insane slasher in the woods or if the origin movie of Old Greg was about how he haunted a giant cannibal in the woods in a dark and twisted movie. Its shocking , its crude, its rude and its pretty fucking hilarious. Not for the easily offended or easily annoyed. What starts off as the grossesed dirtiest Kids in the Hall skit turns into a legit slasher in the woods while making everything a lil extra dirty and a lil extra weird. True punk rock SOV underground counter culture with a level of nonsense that may or may not be considered healthy to some.  Then spoiler just to be even more fucking annoying at the very end of the flm we watch the movie rewind itself. Brilliantly annoying and stupid and Im sure everyone involved is very proud of that and so is their sponser Browns Chicken and Pasta. I am also now going to have nightmares of nipples for weeks. Also David plays a wonderful killer in the movie who is basically Chewbacca in a  dress. 

This seems like a basic shot on video slasher but no you are not ready for this movie.

A year ago, I invested $5 into ten lesser-known coins for fun. This is how they fared since.

Note: This applies from the 3rd of October, 2020 to the 3rd of October, 2021, when I wrote the post. I'm posting it today because I had trouble accessing it all.

Like it says on the title: last year I just happened to have $50 to spare and, instead of adding it to my other crypto investments, I decided to have a little fun and invest on coins with a low market value that no one seemed to know about (at the time anyways). I swore to myself that I would not check on their progress until a full year had passed.

Why October 3rd? Because I knew I'd remember it due to all the Mean Girls and FMA memes, that's why.

Anyway, without further ado, here are the ten coins and how much money they've made me since:

#1: Polkastarter (POLS) is a cross-chain decentralized exchange (DEX) built on Polkadot for token pools and auctions. Its value rose 208.3% in the past year, earning me $10.41 extra.

#2: Flamingo (FLM) aims to unleash the full potential of DeFi, a crucial component on which to base the Neo Smart Economy. Its value rose 21.4% in the past year, earning me $1.07 extra.

So... yeah, that was wild. Notice how there was nothing but profit. If you invest in crypto and leave it alone for a year, it will almost surely be nothing but profits. I love crypto because of that.

Anyone who views my photo work can easily realize I've been in love with Iceland for the last years. This place is The dream for any Nature lover, and in 2016 I was finally able to allow some extra time to find new locations. As long as there's good light, you can find incredible shooting spots around every corner, as this photo shows. My Iceland trips in 2014 and 2015 were frantic, with endless hours of driving, always trying to find the biggest number of iconic spots and capture them with proper light. In 2016 it was different, as I visited the country in June, allowing for long hours of sunset/sunrise light, with longer times for scouting. I've tried to locate this spot on the map but I can't, and Sony has unfortunately deactivated the GPS option in their cameras. It was found while driving through the under-rated East Coast of Iceland, after I decided to stop during sunrise to photograph a very interesting small wood cabin meant for bird observation. The sky was starting to burst with light, and the very interesting cloud formation made me scout the place a bit further to find alternative compositions. After a very short walk I found this small stream of water, coming right from the ice melting of the mountains in the distant background. The strong effect of the ultra wide angle lens gave a strong emphasis to the foreground, building a solid leading line to the beautiful distant mountains. As usual, a scene like this could only lead to that unique intense feeling of a strong adrenaline rush, mixed with the soothing effect of Nature. Extremely addictive! Danielle sits up and flips her pillow over. Again. 

She closes her eyes, again, and tries, really, really tries to fall asleep. 

But it’s of no use. 

She’s not there. 

It’s the first night in four weeks that she hasn’t had her there, or on the phone, to go to bed.

She’s over the moon, smitten with Ashley. Doesn’t wants to spend a single second away from her. And yet: here she is; back east for Christmas break. The furthest possible distance she could be away. 

And it sucked. 

Dani pouts to herself as she rolls over to grabs her phone. It’s only ten o’clock in California. She unlocks it and pulls up the text conversation with her girlfriend. 

I miss you :(  she sends the text and watches as the three dots appear soon after

Poor baby! I miss you too

I can’t sleep. You’re not here and my bed is too big and too cold.

Oh! Don’t do that! I already feel sad enough! I wish I was there. 

Me too. 

Her phone rings and she’s quick to answer it before her sisters wake up. They may not be sharing a room, but the walls are thin. 

“Hey,” she says, putting it on speaker and rolling onto her side, pulling the blanket over her shoulder.

Danielle laughs; she’s yet to meet Ashley’s family but has heard all the stories. Big, loud, and Mexican.

“Are you okay?” Ashley asks. She’s so caring; always concerned with everyone’s needs. 

“I’m okay. I just needed to talk to you.”

“Okay. Go to sleep. Send me pictures of snowy New York tomorrow.”

“I will. Love you.

“Love you too.”

Their call ends and Danielle finally falls asleep.

The official Japanese website for the Yowamushi Pedal anime series today released a 60-second trailer for Yowamushi Pedal Re:GENERATION, the upcoming compilation film based on the third TV anime series NEW GENERATION, for an October 13 release in Japan. The clip introduces some of the newly-animated footage for the flm.

  Yowamushi Pedal New Generation, the third TV anime series based on Wataru Watanabe's road bicycle racing-themed sport manga, was aired for 25 episodes from January to June of 2017, and the next fourth season is already set to start in January of 2018.
