1024 Architecture - Tesseract

1024 est un collectif d’artistes et architectes basé en France qui a notamment participé au développement du logiciel Madmapper. 1024 réalise des installations immersives: mapping, installations leds, lyres et autres outils de projections lumineuses… 

Le projet Tesseract, présenté tout d’abord au New Forms Festival de Vancouver en 2013, puis ayant tourné à travers le monde, consiste en une gigantesque cage mi transparente, contenant pas moins de 65 sharpys, 16 stroboscopes ainsi que 4 machines à fumée. Le tout est relié à un logiciel spécialement conçu par l’équipe de 1024 architecture (structure tools), leur permettant de contrôler l’ensemble de l’installation via Abelton Live, afin de produire un show musical parfaitement synchronisé aux visuels 3D produits par les nombreuses sharpys.

Projet fascinant par sa complexité technique et à travers la double lecture qu’il propose, visible de l’extérieur comme un gigantesque cube lumineux et de l’intérieur comme un espace sans cesse reconstruit, donnant de la matière aux faisceaux lumineux des sharpys et un aspect d’hologramme aux visuels proposés.

Electronic A longing for darkened rooms, bodies moving together in a kind of spiritual hedonism and immersion in crystal-clear electronic beats is but one aspect of pre-Covid nostalgia that underpins this intriguing – and intriguingly kinetic – pan-generational survey of machine-powered music, its associated cultures of place and its accompanying, evolving aesthetic. Is the concept of ‘dance music all night long’ now consigned to history, to museum-based assessment through a curatorial gaze only? The ‘Design Museum’ reopened its doors to the public on July 31, 2020 with the temporary exhibition ‘Electronic: From Kraftwerk to The Chemical Brothers’ (originally due to open on April 1, 20200). ‘Electronic: From Kraftwerk to The Chemical Brothers’ is an exhibition by the ‘Musée de la Musique - Philharmonie de Paris’ exploring the hypnotic world of electronic music - from its origins to its futuristic dreams. The London edition will feature the museum premiere of electronic pioneers ‘The Chemical Brothers’’ sensory spectacle by creative studio ‘Smith & Lyall’ featuring mesmerising visuals for the Grammy Award-winning track “Got to Keep On”. Le Rubik Cube de Mr De Crécy

On avait été soufflé il y a deux semaines par la prestation majestueuse et guerrière de Mr Woodkid au Grand Rex; cette fois, on a en a pris plein la vue avec la spectaculaire électro de Mr De Crécy!

A la tombée du rideau (car chez Mr De Crécy le rideau tombe et ne se lève pas !) l'étrange dispositif cubique, qui depuis maintenant quatre ans a fait le tour de la planète, est apparu avec, au prime abord, un léger goût de revival  de l'Académie des 9 (Référence qui ne parlera qu'aux téléspectateurs nés avant les années 80...)

Engoncé au milieu d'une structure d'échafaudages et d'écran de 6m x 6m décomposée en 9 cases, Mr De Crécy envoie ses séquences visuelles et sonores et nous entraîne dans un monde tel qu'annoncé de rythmes et de cubes.

Explorant toutes les combinaisons possibles de la forme parfaite - translation, division, multiplication, rotation et autres transformations géométriques -, cubes et carrés se succèdent au rythme de beats brillants et saturés d'une électro dansante et entraînante. Totalement hypnotique, le jeu de lumière glacée et futuriste alternant projections, stroboscopes et néons captive la rétine pour une plongée en apnée dans un univers à l'esthétique orthogonale et élecTRONique. Sans même s'en rendre compte, on était déjà dans La Grille...

Pour ceux qui n'étaient pas dans la salle hier soir, pas d'inquiétude, graphisme-électro-vidéo sont les thèmes de la rentrée et vous pourrez vous rattraper avec l’exposition French Touch aux Arts décoratifs et/ou le parcours ludique concocté par le collectif h5 avec HELLOtmH5 à la Gaîté Lyrique. Electronic For all who have lost themselves on a dance floor over the last 50 years, there will come a moment when ‘Electronic’ will hijack you, out of the blue, with a surge of nostalgic joy and an irresistible urge to shake your hips. Donna Summer’s ‘I Feel Love’? Underworld’s ‘Born Slippy’? Music is this exhibition’s secret weapon. ‘Electronic: From Kraftwerk to The Chemical Brothers’ is a pulsing panorama of electronic sound, its machines, graphics, spaces and the tribes that venerate its various forms. A bespoke audio history has been mixed for the show by French DJ Laurent Garnier. Electronic music drawn from five decades floods through the space, reaching a crescendo in a chamber illuminated by a mesmerising installation of responsive lighting rods created by ‘1024 Architecture’. Want more music? Plug your headphones into jacks installed beside some of the exhibits. You can hear the spooky sounds of ‘Marie Antoinette Aussenac de Broglie’ playing the electronic ‘Croix Sonore’ in the 1930s. Or Daphne Oram’s experimental piece for orchestra and electronics ‘Still Point’ – written in 1949 but not performed until the ‘2018 Proms’. Elsewhere once upon a time ravers reminisce about oneness and comedowns and stars of the Paris ballroom scene deliver an epic schooling in the art of the death drop. Evoking the experience of being in a club, the exhibition will transport you through the people, art, design, technology and photography that have been shaping the electronic music landscape.
