As nervous as I am for the rest of this season (the titles alone are so much), I'm also so excited for it.

I'm so excited for a Bobby storyline. For Bobby to face his past and hopefully really, truly move forward. Because as much as he's moved on, he has Athena and her family and the 118, he still blames himself. He still doesn't think he deserves the love he has and until he can forgive himself he'll keep thinking he doesn't deserve it.

We've seen it time and time again - Bobby puts so much pressure on himself and fails to see the good he does. I always come back to the moment between Bobby and Eddie when Eddie told Bobby if he's going to blame himself for Jonah than he needs to take some credit for Eddie because he saved his life and he saved Chris's life by doing that.

Bobby Nash is a flawed man, but as his core he's good and kind and loving. He needs to be able to look in the mirror and forgive himself. He needs to see all the positive ways he's impacted his friends, his family.

And I'm excited to see the Eddie storyline, whatever it is. Because Eddie and Bobby are mirrors of each other. Peter Krause has said as much himself.

Eddie also needs to forgive himself for his past. His ghosts aren't exactly like Bobby's but they're similarly shaped.

The ghost of a dead wife. The ghost of what could have been if Shannon hadn't died. The ghost of who Eddie thinks he needs to be.

I'm so excited to see what comes from Bobby and Eddie's stories. And from the rest of the firefam's stories, obviously. But god, Bobby's story alone is probably going to kill me.

Chimney is not getting nearly enough love! He spent his entire life feeling like he was never enough to be loved, that at the end of the day he would be alone because no one would choose him. Yet he refused to let that stop him from loving the people around him. No matter how much pain he’s faced, Chimney has always chosen love and has chosen to welcome people into the 118 family that was born with him and Hen and has only grown since. He truly is the heart of the 118, the sunshine at the core of the firefam. And, after a lifetime of having to fight and reach to build a family, he’s finally learned to accept he’s loved. He trusts the firefam loves him and that he’ll always have a family with them. He believes the Lees have and always will be his family. And he knows that every single day Maddie will choose him, that she’ll love him for the rest of their lives and they’ll get to raise their daughter with more love than he ever dreamed. His journey of being secure in the love of his family is so beautiful and one I’ll cry over forever.

Your SaL anon answer really hits home on why this parental forgiveness arc don't hit hard in 911. The show emphasizes found family aspect of the core members. What they did to Buck and Chimney's parent is one of the most obviously wrong path the show take, even more so about Chimney becaue it came out of nowhere, it's resolved unsatisfyingly, and likely no followup to the damn thing. I suspect they start the redemption arc from Hen and Eddie to ease things up for the hordes of those this season and I don't like the implication. I'm tired already. If Kriten still holds the steer for next season the show is as good as over for me.

Nonnie, I'm so sorry I didn't get to this until a week later, but thank you! Pretty sure this is about this ask, and honestly I'm still pissed and reeling from 4x14 cutting Eddie out of his own arc and cutting the firefam being there for him and for Buck so it could waste all that screentime pushing the BT relationship setup, and things have only gone downhill from there wrt the found family of the show, culminating in that mess of contradictions in 6x11. And yeah, Chim got one other short scene about his dad and that's it and we didn't even get him following Hen's advice about acknowledging that his feelings MATTER and that in order to let the hurt go he has to speak out that it exists. IDK why Kristen seems to not care for Chim as a character (or like, anyone really at this point besides her weird obsession with Buck and turning him into her little drama puppet), because Kenny is just, so so so SO good! He's SOOOO funny, but he can yank heartstrings with the best of them. As much as I'm rolling my eyes at this proposal set up, I AM happy to be getting more Chim and I'm hoping it won't all just be comic relief. Also the BTS hits that we are getting injured Chim are *delicious* and i'm excited for that but for the love of all that is holy I NEED the show to STOP pushing this unearned redemption for everyone and go back to focusing on the 118 as FAMILY that leans on each other.

As much a I don't think it WILL happen (not with the network seeming ready to pour it's money into a different rescue franchise and leave 911 out to dry and run itself into the ground) I am never going to stop manifesting that Kristen gets removed from the showrunner position. Literally everyone, actors, audience, and characters, deserve so much better than what she's doing to the show.

Do you see yourself sticking in the 911 for a long time? Like what if s6 is the last season? A major character dies or no canon buddie endgame or they end up with others?

I mean, I think so?? Considering this is the first fandom that has inspired me to write in literally a decade I find it hard to believe that my brain will totally switch off from it all that quickly.

I think the only thing that could make me disengage entirely would be in a major character died - it would ruin a lot of that found family/healing journey vibes that I love so much about the show.

I would also struggle if one of the core firefam left the 118. I could maybe handle it if it was say Bobby and they had him retire but he still pops up every few episodes to cook for them and dispense wisdom and we also got verbal signs that the rest of them still see him often... but it would be borderline. The ensemble is what makes this show.

On the practical stuff - I hope S6 is not the last season, but if it is then I have some ideas to keep me going and there's always rewatches! So long as they don't finish it on a sad note... no tragic series finales allowed!!

My interest also doesn't hinge on Buddie canon. I think that direction makes sense and I do hope they go that way but also I haven't historically ever done shipping at all so I'm not like super invested in THEY MUST GO CANON. I'd like it, but it isn't going to wreck my enjoyment of the show.

Buck and Taylor "love" each other, okay, sure, then why haven't we seen her with the firefam? IDK I'm just thinking about that this morning and when you think about what the 118 means to Buck... He found his brother there, a sister, a father figure, an almost mother figure (Athena). He found Christopher (easily the love of his life) through the 118, through his family. And yet. None of them have seen Taylor and Buck together since the treasure hunt.

And when you think about the reasons why people keep their significant other from their family, it's because either A) they don't want to face disapproval from their loved ones, and/or B) They don't want people looking too closely at the unit. Because someone who looks to closely, someone who loves you enough to look closely is going to see that things aren't right there. That you're not right in that relationship. It was fine (ish) having Taylor around in 4x12 because they were just friends, and when you're 30, no one can really tell you who to be friends with. But it's different when you're dating someone, and your family gets to look and see what kind of situation you've gotten yourself in, good or bad.

The 118 didn't even know Taylor had moved in because Buck had to tell them. Which means no one's come by to see him, and I'm willing to bet he's not gone to see anyone else. So he keeps this protective bubble around his relationship, only to puncture it when he's certain the relationship is over. And why? Why then? I'll tell you why: because then, when it's over, it doesn't matter what anyone has to say. Then, you just have to sit there and listen to them talk about how they knew she wasn't right, knowing they were right, knowing they were ALWAYS right, which is why you kept that preservative bubble around your relationship anyway.

Except it didn't end, and now people know that things between Taylor and Buck are a little... complicated.

So now in 5x10, we have Taylor with the Firefam for the first time in six or seven months, and I don't want to be too hasty and assume, but I wouldn't be surprised if we got something of a parallel with Eddie, this time, observing Buck with his girlfriend and calling him on his shit. Only he wouldn't call him on "sticking things out" because Buck would talk about Taylor like he loves her because he wants to believe he does. Instead, Eddie would cut right to the root, right to the "Hasn't it occurred to you that you keep making the same mistakes, chasing people instead of allowing yourself to be chased?"

Eddie broke up with Ana the very next opportunity he got the chance (coming off of an intense, weeklong blackout shift and a hunt for a kidnapper/killer, which, when you look at it that way, speaks to a certain desperation to be over and done with that relationship) because he knew, at his core, that Buck was right. But I don't see Buck breaking up with Taylor instantly because he wants to be loved, yes, but he also wants to know that he always will be loved. In essence, he wants to know that she's not it for him, that she's not his one chance at love and happiness. He wants to know that he has options. Otherwise, he's going to be right back where he started: lonely, and desperate, and full of unspent affection.

So no, I don't think we're getting a BT breakup until 5B (at best, around 5x11, 5x12, but most likely the end of the season), or even an Eddie confession until probably the season finale, but if we got Eddie implying feelings that Buck doesn't know how to respond to in 5x10? Only to come back in 5B and have to watch them try to work together and interact (especially for Christopher's sake, who also has not seen Buck in months) with yet another monstrous thing sitting between? Oh man...

A slow, earned progression towards Buddie (not rushed, not unearned. tbh even if they don’t become canon this season, I would be happy if they get NOTABLY closer. AND FOR THE LOVE OF CRAP, ABSOLUTELY NOOOOOO GETTING TOGETHER BETWEEN SEASONS, I WOULD FEEL SO CHEATED)

Very little time dedicated to B-cast people. I like them, but one of my biggest frustrations last season was how much time we burnt on them at teh expense of core 9-1-1 characters. B-cast includes Josh, Albert, May, Ravi, Sue Blevins, etc. (Sorry if you like these characters! But not sorry if they don’t get tons of airtime)

I've been rambling so much about the finale today because I have so many thoughts about the growth of the stories of the different characters and/or relationships.

BATHENA 4.13 had them talking about how communication is still an issue for them and with it came the underlying hurt of "Do you not value me enough to include me in your decision making especially when it comes to life-changing choices?". But Athena literally walking through fire for Bobby - and also essentially going against protocol and risking the job she loves - is a loud declaration of how valued Bobby is in her life and how much more important he is.

HEN So Hen's story actually mostly "wraps up" in the previous episode, where we not only see that she has earned the respect of her study group but also her mom. Her struggle to prove herself despite being a "minority" in so many ways is shown here. Hen is a woman who defies odds. She's a well-respected member of the LAFD, despite being a queer woman of color in a boy's club. Now, she's an older medical student who was able to successfully diagnose and seek help for a patient (her mom) better than a real doctor did. She demonstrated an empathy this doctor failed to have and basically assuaged any doubts her mother had of Hen making the right choice by pursuing this career path. She also grew from her struggle of entrusting Nia to someone else, of allowing another person she perceived as failing Nia to love her. While there was closure when they discovered why Nia was separated from her birth mother, this new step of allowing Nia to be a part of their lives again while knowing that it is not in a parental capacity speaks even more of her ability to love deeply. I think with her, it's less growth and more of further proof of Hen's heart and love for people.

MADDIE Her admitting to Sue that something was wrong and then telling Chimney that she needs help is a huge thing. We saw how she was trying to appear fine and put together for him in the previous episode. We also know that she began this show as a "lone wolf" thinking that she couldn't drag others down into her problems with her. (Thanks Mr. and Mrs. Buckley + Doug for being awful examples of "love"). Buck had to convince her to stay and let him be her support system. Chimney had to work to be let in. Maddie is more often seen as the one supporting instead of being supported. So Maddie realizing it's okay to ask for help and also realizing she has people she can count on is the biggest sign of growth from Season 2 Maddie.

CHIMNEY We know Chimney sees Buck as a little brother, especially since he's Maddie's brother; but he also had no say in Buck joining the academy and then the 118. With Albert though, he definitely could have stopped his plans in the tracks especially since it would have felt remarkably similar to Kevin joining the academy and becoming a fellow firefighter. That he supported Albert's firefighting journey (and likely encouraged him every step of the way - we know he and Buck probably did a lot of drills with Albert, with Hen definitely helping with the written parts) feels like a beautiful full-circle journey. Now he gets to do what he loves with a brother again. Also, not to mention how he used to be jealous of Albert but now he lets the boy "follow in his footsteps"? As someone who struggled with constantly comparing herself to her siblings, this is huge. It's damning proof that he no longer sees his brother as the golden child he has to compete with but a person he gets to share the things he is passionate about with.

BUCK + EDDIE (But not in a Buddie way, hear me out. It's worth it). The will is such a game-changer and basically the loudest statement anyone could ever make, both with regards to Buck and Eddie. With Eddie, it is the biggest proof that he has finally found someone he could trust Christopher with (aka his whole world). Eddie's core struggle is similar to Maddie (and most of the 9-1-1 characters), which is being able to let someone else help him as he juggles his different roles. Eddie came into LA feeling like he was drowning, cutting himself of from his former support system because his parents wanted to permanently take Christopher in. That definitely made him more wary of asking for and accepting help. But lawsuit fiasco notwithstanding, there was suddenly a person who provided him with help without removing his autonomy and parental rights. This person introduced him to Carla, got "bring your son to work day" all cleared, built a skateboard for his son, and poured himself out to save Christopher during the tsunami. The will is him acknowledging that after Shannon, after his parents, he can finally relax a bit and not worry about Christopher or even himself. Did you see how unworried Eddie was when he saw Buck the first time he woke up? Did you notice how, after checking that Buck wasn't hurt, he didn't have to even worry about making sure that Buck would take care of Christopher while he was healing up? The guy knew his world was in good hands. Now compare that to the Eddie who was stunned after Bobby let him bring Chris to the station, to the Eddie who hesitated before telling Buck about his son, to the Eddie who debated about letting Shannon back in to Christopher's life again. What growth. With Buck, his central struggle has always been finding people who love him enough to stay. Buck 1.0 was him avoiding commitment because he thinks this is all he can get to temporarily fill the void. Firefighting and the firefam were another set of void-fillers (hence why he fought so hard to come back to the 118). Both the arc with Red and that really damning statement in the crossover (where he actually doubted that Hen would break rules to rescue him for a second) tell us that he's not completely secure about people staying for him. He wasn't enough for his parents, for Abby and Ali, for Maddie (for a while), for his firefam. That's why he thinks he's expendable. Eddie including him in the will takes on a different light when you think about all it's trying to say. It's not even just, "You have people counting on you now." or "You have a Christopher that's going to stay a you stay for him too.". It's also Eddie saying that, "Even if I might leave you physically, I am leaving the last part of me - my life/heart/world - Christopher to you.". Which is a less cheesy, less cringy and much more concrete way of saying "I'm still here in spirit.". Buck finally has two someones who will stay. (And now I think I've just made myself cry).

I'm with you in the 'what is she doing that Ravi couldn't have done' camp.

Like. That conversation? Should have been between Buck and Ravi. Has a whole lot more sense than he talking to an already experienced firefighter. Unless they're trying to tell me that she's a probie/ has no experience??

What's her purpose really if she's not pushing Buck to do more dangerous stunts? if the kiss didn't cause the BT breakup? To be someone Buck can tall to? As if he doesn't have a whole as family, a sister, and a f girlfriend?

Seriously, like the kiss didn't lead to a breakup soooo why did we need it? Cut that out, and literally she's just taking scenes from Anirudh that he could do a thousand times better.* Him and Oliver would have slayed that heart-to-heart talk and it would have been a nice moment to show them bonding and getting closer after the whole "being a hardass because I'm training you to take my spot" thing.

Also, YES, he's the new guy and we don't know if he's quite past being a probie yet, so him needing the same reassurance Buck did after a call like that when he was new makes total sense! So are we supposed to believe the person who knows enough to backseat drive the paramedics on a call doesn't understand the basic tenants of the job? Please 🙄🙄🙄

When she was very first announced they marketed her as a daredevil and implied she'd be pushing Buck to be more reckless which doesn't track with what we're seeing right now with Buck being focused on Eddie and being there for him. Next, she was marketed as someone with "sexual tension" with Buck, so people watching there scenes would go "oh yep! They have sexual tension!" and in the hopes that people would want to see more of that, giving her a purpose on the show. But people immediately said HARD PASS and so now the line is that they are striking up a "sweet" and "lovely" friendship so people will stop hating on her for being a "love interest" every time she shows up on screen. But a) the damage was done with that kiss and it will taint ever interaction they have moving forward for the audience, even if the characters seem to have moved past it, and b) she's left without a narrative purpose right now. That could change, there could be something that comes up later that needed someone outside the 118 core group BUT being that we are halfway through 5b, it doesn't seem like any one-off moment like that would need a character who has been around all season doing nothing when it could be just a random guest spot. 🤷🏻‍♀️

She's only here because KR (and Timmy who signed off on it) wanted to have her here, and she wedged her into the storyline at the cost of screentime for other characters. Buck can and SHOULD be getting to have moments talking with the rest of the firefam! He should be getting to be the old Buck we know and love on calls, coming up with ingenious solutions on rescues. Ravi should be getting to have these heart-to-heart talks with Buck. At this point in time, she's utterly superfluous and just eating up screentime. (She's so season 3 m*ria coded it hurts)

We're stuck with her for the rest of the season, but the backlash has been loud enough to affect the promos we are being shown, and the way they are now talking about her character in interviews. So keep it up! Just because she's not being marketed as a love interest anymore, doesn't mean they won't still try if people chill out about her. Remember season 4 and everyone being so excited to see more of tay kay and Buck? It didn't matter that people liked their "friendship", people were happy seeing her on their screens and now she's been clinging on by her fingernails the whole goddamn season. The interviews didn't lie. They threw out stuff to see what reaction they got back, and adjusted accordingly.

(*not for nothing, but Ravi getting excited and turning around and planting one on Buck and then being like "oh shit, I wasn't supposed to reveal my crush on him! He has a gf and an ex-husband!" while Buck is standing there like "what just happened?" about all of it, and his relationship with Eddie (and Chris) and Maddie coming home being the catalyst to break up bt while Ravi is awkward around Buck at work, is all a 10,000% more interesting than whatever tf they are doing with L and Anirudh would have done it so well!!)
