July 2024 Monthly Music NYAA
Current (within the last month... or so):
"Joyride" by Kesha. We've all heard it. A return to form and a celebration of Kesha's freedom <3
I finally listened to Cupcakke's album. I know people love to harp on her obscene lyrics and humor but can I just say her instrumentals are one of a fucking kind? Some notables off the album: "Water Balloon," "Aura," "Backstage Pass," "Rock Paper Scissors," "Dora," and "Dementia." If you like these, maybe give "Catman" by TeaMarr as well.
"Skyscraper Starlight" De De Mouse. City Pop sensibilities with a modern groove factor.
"Chasing Low Vibrations" Foster the People. Not as good as previous stuff but... idk... what it is what it says on the tin. Low vibrational.
"Corazon" & "Switch It (ft Cakes da Killa, GAWD). Glossy, disco-y, and MADE to get you on the fucking dance floor! Glad to have accidentally found the latter song through Cakes Da Killa and their song "Da Dat Baby" with its gay, flashy rap. If you like those, PIVOT WITH ME, and try out "Nowhere" by Shotaro Aoyama.
"Kiss" Penicillin. Just some Visual Kei rep on this list. The sound is very nostalgic for Jrock, at least vocally. Like 1998 vibes.
"Low Threshold" Navy Blue. A rap that feels like the intersection between a confessional and a sermon.
Looking at my "Share with Tumblr" playlist... this is longer than expected so uh... kpop dumping ground?? Which is bad because these are all WILDLY different genres but... I feel like the same group of people will give them a chance so:
"Hot Mess" Aespa (chaotic, bad but compelling). "Sabotage" & "Bad Blood" KWON EUNBI (Dancey, Loona-adjacent somehow?) "Dont" Lee Chae Yeon (Bop for the girlies) "Pricey" & "Rain Drop" NCT 127 (Songs I re-imagine as Exo demos) "Sweetie" PRSNT (Jiyoon from 4minute!! In a co-ed group!! Bubbly) "XO (Only if You Say Yes)" Enhyphen (I'm obsessed with the instrumental) "All Day" Onew (I SAVED THE VERY BEST!! GORGEOUS, ENTHRALLING, musically complex and great)
Jpop and mid-2000s AMV core... I'm here for "Underground" by F5ve and its semi-viralness.
I don't think its their best album, by a long shot, and I miss how weird they were but Glass Animals did have a bit of a comeback from that HORRIBLE lead single. Notables: "How I learned to Love the Bomb," "Wonderful Nothing," "whatthehellishappening?" Indie pop / alt rock.
"Super Breath" Karen 0 & Danger Mouse. MTV Teen Wolf era ass song. For the peeps who liked older Metric but also MTV's curated playlists for their teen dramas.
"Stupid (can't run from the urge" underscores. If hyperpop intrigued you but kind of scared you, if you ran back to like... madeon but gayly... this is the song for you.
If you like previous recs of Alex Anwandter's music, give "Mi Corazón" by Tango Astral a shot. Similar vibes, perhaps more basic.
Kinda generic rock song but "Delusion:All" One OK Rock scratches an itch. Still don't think they've ever done better than "Clock Strikes" but I don't follow them much
Older songs to shout out: "Passive" A Perfect Circle (Used to listen to this and think of Sasunaru, alt rock, nu metal... ish), "Last Smile" Love Psychedelico (Jrock from 2000, close your eyes and bop your head), "Eureka" Sakanaction (more Jrock, more energetic and poppy), "Something Good '08" Utah Saints (Kate Bush Sample and made a great AMV)

💥💥💥
💥 aoyama yuga: okay aoyama loves the idea of pictures. they love cameras, taking photographs. their phone used to yell at them about storage relentlessly. half of those pictures were artful adolescent selfies that honestly should have been deleted as soon as they were taken —- & the other pictures were blurry snaps of the neighbor’s cat as … the cat… actively ran from aoyama & gave them the middle finger. the number of selfies exponentially decreased once they start at ua, but they can’t quite bring themselves  to stop from taking pictures. at that point, most of their camera reel is the view outside the train window or ( again ) their neighbor’s cat or accidental screencaps of their morning alarm but . . .
that aside, they’re awful at taking pictures with people. without fail, their eyes are shut when they’re taking a picture.
💥 koji koda: okay dfgdfg this is significantly a shorter headcanon but his skin is layered & thickens with age. it’s likened to tree bark, but it’s not quite as tough. it doesn’t impact mobility in any way — but the nerves are a little different, whatever that means. the sensitivities are a little different. second-hand smoke impacts his skin as do car fumes & chemically toxic locations seem to hit his lungs & body harder but . . .
it takes him a while to figure that out. when he was seven, he remembers sitting next to a girl who announced a little bemusedly that she had a condition called psoriasis. her skin itched & turned rashy & the texture was a bit patchy. koji stared at her skin & his & wondered if he had psorosis.
it took three weeks for his mother to figure out what he wasn’t saying & say no. your skin is fine. relax.
💥 iida tenya: when he was twelve he tried to get a cat out of a tree & used his quirk accidentally & got stuck in a tree with the cat. no one can know. three dogs barked at him ( & the cat ) while they passed & iida tried to blend into the tree a little more because he was embarrassed & things got worse when somehow the cat decided it had enough of iida, so it started hissing &
iida felt very dignified & well-behaved in his refusal to swear. but when he was twelve & stuck in a tree, he swore for the first time & he felt
enormously guilty & tried for repentance by surrendering himself to the tree for the rest of the day at least &
reluctantly, he disclosed his circumstance when his mother phoned him to come home for dinner.
like he said, no one can know.

I think people are getting the set up for the traitor reveal wrong
Like, yeah, Hagakure is the traitor, there were some people who already got clues of this loooooong ago, it has been set up and all...
But remember aoyama? The hints were not leading into him being the traitor but knowing the traitor and trying to get the message across
He was most likely being watched and maybe even forced into being an unwilling companion to the traitor. Others have already noticed that he was recently hiding his face during the end of the villain hunt arc, some atypical behaviour to a character that was always breaking the fourth wall. He clearly was aware but couldn't do anything about it, so the whole class was manipulated.
And he is the one who bonded with Izuku, and who tried to reach for him. It is going to be revealed his link to the traitor actions and Izuku will be devastated for not helping or noticing sooner since he always makes a point of saving everyone. His friend was asking for help and he straight up ignored it and looked past. That is the emotional impact that is being set up: guilt and not pure shock.

Uncharitable a bit but I feel like I can finally put into words why it is becoming a bit hard for me to become invested in the todoroki family plot point: it feels too self contained in itself, almost detached from the bigger plot points
Like, what was the emotional reward and consequences of watching it be revealed to the whole world that the current number one hero commited an immense taboo to the rules imposed on the hero society? a few surprised faces and stuff being thrown at him while he tries to work, no longer having the respect from the public and all that
But I feel like such a reveal should have bigger reflexes on its world, specially since he achieved such a place as the number one hero. Just on his own family it would be interesting to see reflexes from his actions, like the family of Natsuo'sgirlfriend forbidding their relationship to prevent her being used like Rei, or maybe Fuyumi losing her job because people wouldn't trust her taking care of kids because she failed to save her own younger brother even as a kid, or to see the Himura family failing into the public scrutiny for being willing to let such things happen, or maybe even people stop seeing Shouto as a hero and seeing him as a victim. Heck, maybe even the villains deciding to take a page from the number one hero actions and reviving the quirk marriages, to show why it is dangerous to commit such a tabboo.
This plot point hardly feels alive because it has no effect on its world. Dabi weaponizing it to the public had a promising prospect but it hardly went anywhere. Now we know he is planning to commit something bigger and we have no clue as to what but Shouto is at least invested into saving and stopping him,and while it has thematic relevant now that it is being discussed the whole topic of saving Villains, it doesn't seem like it will have any effect on the world around him, beyond having an a effect on Dabi himself(and maybe his future victims)
It has become the equivalent to trying to see if a domino piece will make the other fall too, but it never happening or falling to a shorter line than you expected.

I am low-key glad it wasn't bkg, it would be depressing if all emotional high points in the manga were all concentrated only in his character

I feel sorry for the poor people trying to search color theory to improve their skills and are only finding a bunch of pictures of bloody walls and references to children's hospitals

Summary: Tenya and Momo decide to organise a Christmas Party for the class to raise morale in the midst of a stressful second year. Party planning provides an opportunity to grow closer, and in the meantime their friends and classmates find themselves feeling the romance of the holiday, as well.
My big Christmas fic is finally complete, and I’m so excited to share it! There’s a throughline of Iidamomo in the whole thing, but it’s easy to ignore if you’re not into that - it’s the first and last chapters plus a short scene at the end of each of the other chapters. In general, the chapters are interrelated, but feel free to pick and choose based on the ships you enjoy! None of them require you to read any of the others to understand.
Mistletoe Rules: Kirimina, established relationship, 3 024 words
It's Eijiro's first Christmas with Mina, and he plans to take full advantage of the romance of the season, especially the mistletoe. After all, she's a stickler for the Mistletoe Rules.
A Boy Who Loves His Mama: Izuocha, developing feelings/getting together?, 5 342 words
Izuku wants to get his mom a good gift this Christmas, but... he's not especially good at gift-shopping. Luckily for him, he has a friend who's much better at it, and who's more than willing to lend a hand.
Getting to Know You: Tokotsuyu, developing feelings/getting together, 3 412 words
If Tsu is going to find the right gift for Tokoyami, her Secret Santa recipient, then she's going to have to get to know him better.
Seeking Definitions: Inatodo, getting together?, 3 979 words
Shoto's surprised when Yoarashi invites him out for lunch, but - well, he is trying to get better at this whole friendship thing.
Another Perspective: Ojitoru, established relationship, 3 342 words
Toru wants to bake cookies for the class Christmas Party, and Mashirao is happy enough to help. He didn't realise she was such a messy baker, though.
Mixing Traditions: Satoyama, getting together, 3 447 words
Yuga talks so fondly about his childhood Christmases in France, and Rikido just thinks - well, he thinks it would be nice, if he could bring some of that beloved French tradition home to UA for the boy. He'd think so even if he didn't have a giant crush. Probably.
The Upside of Being the Odd One Out: Shinsokendo, developing feelings, 4 318 words
Hitoshi agreed to come to the party because Denki obviously really wanted him to. He figured it'd be something fun before the holiday, even if he doesn't know most of Class 2-A all that well. He did not, by any means, anticipate coming away from the evening nursing a brand-new crush on a girl he never expected to talk to him.
Quite a Lot: Iidamomo, getting together, 2 127 words
The Christmas party was a total success, and now all Tenya and Momo have to do is tidy up.

Shota’s Cool Times Summer Jamz Mix
But for real, this is a Class 1-A Character Analysis, but with their music choices!
So it’s editing day, and @albinoburrito and I got a little off track. It started with, what do you think Bakugo would listen to? And then it just spiraled out of control.
Tumblr media
So, here it is. Shota’s Cool Times Summer Jamz Mix
Izuku: Indie music, general pop, his dad’s old classic rock albums - was especially excited when he found out that All Might also listens to classic rock and uses it for his workouts. He prolly made like 20 new playlists after that and always tries to play them on the down low when All Might is training with him. He fucking loves it when All Might is like, “oh! I love this song”. Or, asks for him to turn the volume up. Has done some low fi for studies, but that’s really the only time he does it. He likes Young the Giant, MGMT, Alt-J, Strfkr and bands like The Rolling Stones and Van Morrison fill out most of his workout playlists.
Bakugo: Honestly, he doesn’t have any hard and fast preferences. If he likes things he SoundHounds them and moves on. He can cultivate playlists, but it’s not like he’s Kaminari level, having playlists for any and all activities. I do feel like he would lean more toward rap & hip hop titles. As well alt and alt rock. No fucking scream-o, or Eminem, please and thank you. Artists like: Childish Gambino, Travis Scott, Drake, blackbear, Missio, NCT 127, and Jaden’s Icon. However, he does have one low key, wind down playlist with sad, sappy songs that he had to immediately lock when the others found his Spotify. Shit like Band of Horses, Lord Huron, and Ocean Eyes by Billie Eilish.
Sero: Indie and indie bops: i.e. Loud Pipes by Ratatat. Some rap & hip hop. Maybe upbeat alternative jams. He strikes me as a Gorillaz fan. He’s good at making playlists, he’s better at the low key ones. Things that you can comfortably listen to and don’t mind them. He doesn’t overthink this. If you hand him the aux you’re never upset. You’ll get bands like: Two Door Cinema Club, Passion Pit, St. Lucia, COIN and Coast Modern.
Kaminari: The KING of cultivated playlists. Like, has one for every occasion. Need something for a party that your parents will also attend? Cross generational? He’s got you. Pump up jams for specific people? He made them like a week ago and has choices. Makes playlists for certain people, but won’t give them out unless you actually want them, or ask him. Yes, he made one for Shinso after that training battle. No, he hasn’t worked up the courage to show him yet. Personal preference: he’s into all the latest pop & he keeps up with artists and tends. For upbeat playlists he goes for: Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Maroon 5 and Major Lazer. For low key playlists his go to are: NIKI, Khalid, KALEO, Transviolet, Noah Cyrus, and Bea Miller. His favorite artists waffle. They change rapidly. He loves them one week, but next week he’s got a new fav. He also likes the Jpop scene.
Mina: Hip Hop QUEEN. If it’s got a good beat she is all over it. MUST be a banger. She has mood banger playlists. Like, Kamanari, she’s got some good playlist cultivation skills. She’s also who you want to go to for road trip & sing along playlists. My girl loves a good upbeat “friendship,” playlist. She has a soft spot for some indie bands, i.e, MisterWives, Lorde & Billie Eilish. For her everyday listening needs she is all about: Run the Jewels, Lil Nas X, Quinn XCII, Logic, Calvin Harris, Nicki Minaj and Bhad Bhabie.
Jiro: She listens to all most everything. Massive, massive music pallet. Her family was always big on diversifying her musical tastes. Never let yourself be limited or judgmental because it’s not what you usually listen to. That said, she super big into rock and alt rock. She really like to follow bands. Like Paramour, Panic at the Disco. Bands that have shifted and changed over time. She admires that skill. Jiro cultivates playlists that are super specific and poetic. You know, those concept playlists that are like: enchanting, serene. You are laying in an abandoned castle and you’ve never felt this content and at peace. You are one with the universe, never in your life... Like that shit that’s like a paragraph long and you don’t even understand why, like, why is it so long? And so, specific? She’s got that shit locked down on Spotify. Mina found hers once, ONCE, and she tightened that security seconds later. She loves to listen to: Fleetwood Mac, The Zombies, Joni Mitchell, Terror Jr, Woodkid, Foo Fighters and David Bowie. Literally, she likes everything. Equal opportunity music listener. If it feels good it’s going in a playlist and that playlist is turning into a poem.
Tokoyami: 100% listens to GOTH rock - POST PUNK jams. Don’t @ him. It’s just his vibe k? Siouxsie and the Banshees shit, The Cured, The Smiths, and some good ole’ Evanescence. The darker the better, Revelry in Dark y’all. He’s a sucker for rock opera, that epic extra shit, but it’s also low key embarrassing. He wants no one to know of this. Like if you find it, go away and leaf him alone. Also, never speak of this again. He’s redacted, he’s not even on this list. You didn’t see this.
Iida: Oh my king, he likes some of that Bastille, Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, One Republic in his playlists. Low key, alt rock. Good ole’ safe, alt rock. But, he does like some pop songs. Not that he will talk to you about that. When he’s with his folks he likes to masquerade as a classic rock buff. But he’s bluffing pretty hard. He’s working on that with Izuku. He’ll get there you guys. He knows his brother loves it so he’s trying his BEST. For his pump up work outs he does go for that DAFT PUNK techno.
Aoyama: Oh. My. God. He loves flashy bands. Fucking Glam rock all the way. He’s also super, super up to date on the French hip hop and pop scene. Into people like Yelle, Phoenix, Soprano, Ayama Kamura, Stromae. Loves ELO just for the sheer operatic value. ABBA all the way baby. Anything exciting and anything that makes him feel invigorated. His playlists are a little scattered. He really just tosses whatever he’s vibing on in them.
Kirishima: You already know, why are you even looking here? He’s got the manliest playlists. When he was younger it was like, all alt rock, edgy stuff. Once he got to UA he cleansed that pallet. Not that he don’t go back to those playlists sometimes, but he’s also wanting to move on from those feelings. Now? He’s all about that positive rock babyyy. Anything that has a good, upbeat feeling he’s down for. He’s really looking for those VIBES. Things that get him pumped up and ready to go. Bands like: The Bleachers, The Mowgli’s, Banners, Jukebox The Ghost. Just real positive stuff, man. He also dips into classic rock for his workouts. If he feels like that rap song works with his workout jams it’s going in and he’s cranking it up. He totally found Bakugo’s sadboi playlist and immediately told him, hey, man, I have one of those too, emotions amiright? This is why Bakugo private locked his entire account HARD. Look what you did, Kirishima, you can’t see ANY of it now.
Uraraka: My girl likes pop. That bubble gum shit. But, she’s also has a superrrr hardcore rap playlist for her workouts, like, it’s kinda confusing. Mina found that playlist first and was like ????? I-Is this you? Like this playlist has DMX, Jedi Mind Tricks, Kanye, LL Cool Jay, A$ap Rocky, like, some tunes that get her GOING. But, she loves that cute Jpop and Kpop. She’s got tons of road jam playlists. Those you can put on and everyone is like, ooooooh, this song!!! She’s also has like 3 Disney playlists, for different moods. She also loves Girl in Red, Louis the Child, Hailee Steinfeld, and Mitski.
Todoroki: He...doesn’t have much experience with music cultivation. Like, he knows some songs, he didn’t live under a rock, but he also kinda did...so, that stunted him, in more ways than one. Thanks Endeavor. But, thanks to his classmates, he is starting to get the hang of this. He over thinks this stuff. Like, this music must speak to him. From Iida he likes Bastille, from Uraraka he likes King Princess, From Izuku he’s learned to love Grizzly Bear, and he really, really likes the playlist that Kaminari made for him. He’s leaning heavily on it to find some more tunes for his own small collection. He also learned that he loves anything that is hard rap as well. Especially if he can play it in front of Endeavor. You know, the ones are like, you didn’t fucking pay your child support, you ass. That aggressive, angry rap: Kendrick Lamar, Wiz Khalifa, J. Cole, 21 Savage and Montana of 300. It’s to make his father as uncomfortable as he possibly can be.
Tsuyu: Fucking rainforest and ambient noises. Not really, but also actually. She likes calming sounds, ok? Everyone was like, this is a joke, don’t be ridiculous and then she showed them her playlist of rain sounds. I mean, you go girl. But really, her collection is mostly pop songs, she likes them easy going. Much like her fighting and hero style, she is the glue that holds things together with the class in terms of music selection. Kinda of the bridging gap. Music that you just can’t complain about. Besides, why would you? What’s wrong with you? It’s Froppy. She and Uraraka often find themselves overlapping on their upbeat indie pop playlists, stuff like: Sara Bareilles, Oh Wonder, Kygo, Kero Kero Bonito, Taylor Swift, MARINA, and Regina Spektor. She did find Uraraka’s rap playlist and didn’t....approve. Did not want to use it for their joint workout. No, thank you.
Ojiro: Oh, you don’t get enough screen time son. You really don’t. He’s very low key. Into some indie stuff, like: Lumineers, Local Natives, Morningsiders, Manchester Orchestra, Vampire Weekend. He likes acoustic sounds, really down to earth. Once again, you cannot complain whenever he gets to select the music. Izuku especially approves when he plays his music because he always finds something new. For his workouts he prefers some heavy, heavy rock. You know, when you get to wail the shit out of stuff with your tail. He’s playing that Five Finger Death Punch in his MIND.
Koda: Nature sounds. Honestly. Full. Stop. Dead-ass he is living for artists like Corrine Bailey Rae, Hozier, Alesia Cara, Adele, and Maggie Rogers. He’s also got that Kacey Musgraves and Florence + The Machine on LOCK. Anything that feels ethereal and light is right up his alley. He likes it a little spooky sometimes. He does have a killer Halloween playlist, but he hasn’t ever quite worked up the courage to play it for his classmates. Oh. Also, listens to Enya un-ironically. He also might have a repeat problem with Imogen Heap’s Hide and Seek.
Sato: He’s into new bands that I don’t even fucking listen to. He loves him some alt rock too. But, he’s not above that classic rock. He just likes stuff that he can head bang to. Not a metal head, but low key IS a metal head. Stuff like: Arctic Monkeys, Bring Me The Horizon, Highly Suspect, Royal Blood, The Smashing Pumpkins. He also has a wonderful baking playlist. Like 1950’s crooners. Think Dorris Day, The Ink Spots, Billie Holiday, Nat King Cole, and Frankie Valli.
Momo: Classical. Moving on. But really, she loves a good brain playlist with musicians, cuz they aren’t artists to her, they have a specific name for the work that they do: Bach, Debussy, Beethoven, Strauss, and some Tchaikovsky...some of his stuff is too much, even for her. She is starting to broaden her tastes. She really loves Sato’s baking playlist, those 50’s and 60’s beats are right up her alley. Jiro is slowly getting her to try out some pop and low key alt rock bands too. She’s growing and learning, y’all.
Toru: POP. That Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera MOUSE CLUB STUFF. She likes sing-alongs. Like has 20 Disney playlists and is always, always down to do a Grease playlist. You honestly feel attacked by how upbeat and peppy her playlists are, ATTACKED BY A GOOD TIME. It’s teen bop pop all the way here folks, no need to dig too deeply into it. She likes: Lizzo, Beyoncé, T. Swift, but like, leans into her hard, she is a swifter head, or whatever it’s called...Arizona, Carly Rae Jepson, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Harry Styles, Katy Perry, and Kesha among the millions of others.
Shoji: This guy. He loves him some alt rock. He, like Ojiro, needs more screen time. He likely listens to lofi playlists fully. Like, not in the way Izuku just listens to them when he’s studying, but like, for fun. Like he actually GETS them, you know? He likes bands like: Cage the Elephant, Beck, Broken Bells, Modest Mouse, The Killers, Neon Trees and Grouplove. For real tho, he needs more screen time.
Aaaaaaaand Mineta: He needs less screen time. Thank you your honor, I rest my case. Um, but like, he’s down for that dirty rap. Like, the slimier the better. If it’s ass, money, pussy, he’s on it. Big Sean is his hero. He thinks the Weekend is the best singer known to man. If this upsets you, I am sorry. I love him too, but sometimes we gotta face the truth. Mineta loves, loves, loves the Weekend. He’s also super down on the Megan Thee Stallion train. Oh, and Cardi B too. He also likes Tyga and Sage the Gemini. These are his top pics. His current ringtone is WAP and Aizawa nearly snapped his phone in half when he heard that go off in his classroom.
Bonus:
- Aizawa: Yes, he has heard WAP. He’s literally attached at the hip to a dj and you know Midnight and Present Mic were all over that song when it was released. Those two tried to do that tiktok choral rendition of it. It didn’t go well. But seriously, this man likes a little bit of everything. He’s a no-fuss, low key guy and his music tastes are the same. He likes alternative and indie the most. Some of that: Sylvan Esso, Silversun Pickups, The Black Keys, The Flaming Lips, The Strokes, Cake, Incubus, and the Deftones. While he has no time to cultivate playlists, he does have a grading playlist that he quickly threw together. It helps him to zone in and work. Yes, Present Mic likes to add funky shit to it, just to ruffle his feathers. In the worst universe, slash in THIS universe, Aizawa was too lazy to get his own Spotify and he shares one with Present Mic. That poor algorithm has no idea what to recommend. He’s just waiting for that cease and desist letter from Spotify’s fraud department. Any day now.
Alright! Hope ya’ll liked it. Lemme know if you want more. We kinda started on one for the LOV, but it’s not finished just yet. In other news, we WILL edit the new chapter of “Look Upon the Light” tonight, don’t worry, we’ll be good. It should be out in the next few days.

GO Shine/ Dark Main Characters Ranked by Base Stat
Note: These base stats are from the first games and only cover the Raimon characters. In Chrono Stone the stats change around.
Note 2: I was also surprised Tsurugi’s kick stat is lower than Kurama, but perhaps it was to stop Tsurugi from being broken? Since he has an avatar.
Note 3: I have no idea why Kageyama’s kick stat is so low and it’s making me question the validity of this list.

aoyama : . . . they bendy. idk what to tell you. i’m forever struck by that scene ( as you know ) of their keeling over backwards during the licensing exam. anyway, i’m thinking about their mobility —- & their having passed the entrance exam to u.a. at all. they were pretty confident at that specific exam, but based on the sports tournament arc . . . endurance isn’t their forte. i believe their experience is determined by extracurriculars determined by their parents, but. . . . the way aoyama’s parents talked ? it sounded like aoyama was the one making the decision. they had him do yoga for kids & kids’ gymnastics things when they were little — aoyama thought it was an opportunity to alleviate their anxiety & make some friends & grow stronger. this continued for a little while even after they made the move to japan. when they were a little older, their parents think aloud to aoyama that they should try aikido — to learn to control themselves a little better & flow & . . . make friends?
aoyama liked gymnastics well enough. . . but only because they did it when they were young. they weren’t phenomenal or anything (they needed a sense of rhythm to be phenomenal . . . which they lack), but they liked it. aoyama likes yoga, but it’s never been a regular practice —- they usually just remember to try it when they’re anxious, but they prefer to do yoga classes. they like the community of the classes. aikido is nice, & they like it . . . aoyama is competent, but they’re not an artist of the field. there’s too much tradition & calm needed to make an art of aikido, & that isn’t aoyama.
but also they spent a lot of time practicing a death drop siudfhgsdg
iida : is not bendy sduhifgsdf his calves are always tight; his hamstrings are always tight. he’s religious about fitting in a cool down after a work out, but that doesn’t mean he always tackles the cooldown movements that he actually needs to do. so . . . sometimes ( beginning at the ripe old age of …. 20 ? ? ? ) he grunts when he stands or bends. his back is fine; it’s just . . . well. his hips & quads are laughing a little at him. in his ideal world, those around him will ignore the sounds of protest he makes to his lower body’s tightness. very rarely is this actually the case.
iida is subject to dad jokes early. he regrets the fact but doesn’t resent it.
but . . . iida isn’t a particularly shameful person. it’s rare that he apologizes for himself ( there’s a lot in between that he apologizes for ) but . . . not for himself. & with this, iida is not at all abashed when he makes eye contact with whomever when he squeezes in an extra 10 minutes of mobility.
. . . nope. not awkward at all.
mitsuki : has had problems sleeping since she was seventeen. she ruminates before sleep or gets restless before sleep. it’s part of the reason she started claiming the nighttime for herself —- she takes the silence as an opportunity to work by lamplight, to watch television, to have a final glass of wine, to prepare lunches ahead of time. it’s part of the reason she started to prefer sleeping in an extra hour after masaru wakes up in the morning —- & after katsuki wakes up. she misses most of her son’s mornings, but . . .
she’s there for the nights. sometimes it’s coincidental, when he decides he can’t sleep & winds up in her office, bundled beneath blankets & staring at nothing until he starts to drift off. sometimes, it’s coincidental, when he’s sick & mitsuki sits next to him on the couch to keep him company. other times, there’s nothing coincidental about it. katsuki gives her increasing reasons to worry, & he gives himself increasing reasons for sleepless. when she started realizing he would decide to opt for isolation as a way of managing himself . . . she was struck by a moment of powerlessness. when she’s particularly stressed for katsuki, she’ll station herself where she can see the closed door of katsuki’s room. it doesn’t matter if she’s sitting on the floor in pajama shorts & a blanket & magazine, she’s there. she feels like she’s doing something, like she’s on guard ( though she’s not well equipped for the kind of guard duty katsuki might need against the external world ).
katsuki has caught her a couple times. she usually points to her & mitsuki’s room with a finger pressed against her lips ( ‘your father is asleep’). other times, she’ll point her finger to an electrical that conveniences her. other times still, katsuki & she pretend not to acknowledge one another.
other times . . . he might appreciate it, if he knew why she was there.

TMS Entertainment Offers Toru Amuro Figure on "Detective Conan" 22nd Film Release Day
TMS Entertainment's official online store TMS Shop is scheduled to start accepting pre-orders for its new 1/8 scale figure of Toru Amuro from the Detective Conan franchise on April 13. Amuro, who is called "The man with triple faces," will be featured in the franchise's upcoming 22nd film Zero no Shikkounin (Zero's Executioner) to be released on the same day in Japan. . . . honestly, aoyama was a little impressed that it had taken as long as it did for someone to ask in france, do they really kiss everyone on the both cheeks in greeting? is it casual? is everyone subject to that sort of treatment? it had taken four months to ask, & they only asked piling through the entrance of the classroom together. aoyama had been surprised enough by the question that they choked on their grape juice & splutter:
‘ merci — ‘
which is a stupid thing to say because it answers approximately zero questions & neglects to address that they’ve been living in japan for years now, but . . .
their answer makes it sound like they’re skirting the question. even more so because class starts, & there’s no time to elaborate further.
they said merci, but they find no mercy because
it comes up again three weeks later as a joke, sitting in the common space when 1 ) some people work on homework 2 ) some people watch television that looks like a jdrama 3 ) a few scattered individuals sit with headphones in & doing whatever; aoyama is amongst them —-
staring at the television as though it were nothing. their legs are primly crossed legs &
they stare so long at the television that they don’t notice when it’s switched off. the others make the decision is to celebrate the end of an academic week, & their decision turns into rabble; it’s a group effort of hands thrown in the air / people talking over one another. there’s a few weeks until they graduate, & aoyama thinks again that it’s impressive that they had not been kicked out of class. they have no future career in heroics, really, but
they’ll graduate, at least.
all of them will graduate, &
it’s a learned behavior for aoyama to loiter three steps behind, to communicate in forgettable ( weird ) statements.
once again, it’s asked: in france, do they really kiss everyone on the both cheeks in greeting? is it casual? is everyone subject to that sort of treatment?
aoyama moved to japan when he was four. they’ve visited family in france often enough, but the questions thrown their way seem like an oversimplification so they shrug, ‘ it is like a muscle memory. you know when it is polite. ‘
which extends into conversation of man, i couldn’t do that to ha! sounds fun to
chicken. they decide to play fucking chicken, &
here’s the thing : aoyama has long since come to terms with the fact that they are a coward . . . but this conclusion comes with the bargain that they know their fears, their sensitivities . . . & all those fears / sensitivities make other boundaries secondary.
aoyama can play chicken. they can win any game of chicken with their close-lipped smile & narrow-eye stare.
of course, they’re not the only one who can play chicken. there are many amongst their crowd decide they must be victors —-
that night aoyama meets the lips of mina, kaminari, & . . . mina & kaminari. aoyama kneed mineta in the groin before he could claim victory, but . . . anything is fair game in love & war.
bakugo doesn’t really commit to playing, but he plays. probably for the sake of ego because he’s obligated ( by kirishima & mina ) to stay put for the night — they don’t care if he plays, just that he stays.
but bakugo goes against aoyama, & though he seems physically repelled at the idea of losing . . .
aoyama can play chicken. they can win any game of chicken, with their close-lipped smile & narrow-eyed stare. but the slowness of their match with katsuki is enough to make the tips of the ears burn a little red, &
they do not consider themselves a good enough person to protect bakugo’s pride —- so they end the match with a cheat, dipping in to press their lips again
bakugo’s cheek ( near the corner of his mouth, if an audience should look )
& bakugo loses.
aoyama bows their respect for their win, for bakugo’s loss, &
takes two steps back. their close-lipped smile is tight &
they’re not too sure how they were recruited to play this game. they still feel separate, & bakugo
feels like a top level game.
thank you for the match, ‘ they murmur as they bow.
