BLOG #8 - EXERCISE 36&37
How media have affected you?
1. Cognitive
- Media affected me in the cognitive level by means of what I always see on my social media accounts, specifically facebook. I remember when an issue about Michelle Dy allegedly stealing a copyrighted trademark of Jefree Star from his youtube channel and how Jefree Star reacted to it, it gave me an information that has been stuck to my mind how much of a controversial man is Jefree Star by overreacting to this not-so-big of a deal issue that he had with Michelle Dy, and now, everytime I think about Jefree Star, I just see him making everything about himself.
2. Attitudinal
- Media affects my beliefs whenever I see posts about old people or what we call lolo’s and lola’s who are working really hard to earn money for their family and people around them are just ignoring and it makes me think about my beliefs about the actions of our people in this generation and it is just so wrong. Instead of ignoring them, why can’t they think of helping them, even just a bit of help because I think, that would be a really huge help for them and their family.
3. Beliefs
- Media affects my beliefs when I saw this post about a boy studying while he works because I can see that he will do everything to make sure that he can get his education while some people out there who already have everything they can probably have still complaining about how crappy their lives are when they can’t see how these kids would be beyond happy experiencing the life they had.
4. Emotional
- Media affects me emotionally every time I watch films from our country or what we usually call “indie films” because I feel like I can totally relate to it and I feel every pain that the main character feels when his/her relationship failed or every time someone was friend-zoned and especially when someone dies. It just breaks my heart in to pieces and it makes me cry so hard that I cannot fully go over it for like, a week or something.
5. Physiological
- Physiologically speaking, media affects me when I see posts about a kid, an adult, a teenager, a “lola” getting raped and killed by some monsters who deserves to die than these innocent girls and women who deserves nothing but justice but some ignorant people says things like, it was the victim’s fault for dressing too sexy or something. A kid dresses sexy? A old woman dresses sexy? I don’t think so.
6. Behavioral
- Media triggers my behavioral level everytime I see an advertisement of a cheek tint or a lip tint on instagram or facebook and a lot of my friends know how much I love these products that’s why I can’t stop myself from buying these.

How powerful are media and information?

We can see in this photograph a husband and a wife showing a very intimate relationship with each other, but at the same time, sharing a very intimate relationship with their cellphones.
Yes, media serves a very powerful tool in different fieldworks in our society. Helping them do things the easier way and be more convenient. But in our current situation, media is slowly taking over our world making us unaware of the things and events that are happening around us. It makes us ignorant to the things thaw we should be giving attention to. And lastly, it does not give us the quality time to share with our loved ones.

Grit: the power of passion and perseverance
https://youtu.be/H14bBuluwB8
Grit is having passion and perseverance for long-term goals. It's living your life like it's a marathon, not a sprint. It's what drives a person to continue through failures until they reach success. This video changed my way of thinking about studying, and learning itself. Learning, sure is hard, and I do feel stupid at first, but it's something that is gradual and could take some time.
Stop searching for your passion
https://youtu.be/6MBaFL7sCb8
Passion is a feeling, not a plan. Feelings change, and you don't have to be pressured into answering the domineering question, "what is your passion?/what are you passionate about?" It made me think that it's okay to not know what you love doing right now. "Success fueled passion more than passion fueled success," is something that I believe is a truth in this world.
How to gain control of your free time
https://youtu.be/H14bBuluwB8
"I don't have time" often means "it's not a priority." This statement implies that time is a choice. When we choose and focus on what matters in life, time will stretch to accommodate it. This taught me how to manage my priorities properly and gave me an idea on which should go first in my schedules.

ONE TIME I WAS MEDIA LITERATE. STORY TIME!!!!!!
Sunday. 12:34 AM. It was raining. Just like any other student, I checked my twitter and looked for updates if classes will be suspended or not. Finally, I saw a tweet that says CLASSES ARE SUSPENDED! ..... ALL LEVELS ..... YES! 5 words of happiness. But before I share it to my classmates, I tried to do a background check (a.k.a stalking) to the account. SAD PART. It was fake, ugh. And being a media literate, I didn't share the post because I don't want to spread fake news to my friendsss. For me, media literacy is not based on how well you identify false news from the real ones. It's about the actions you make after will decide whether you are a media literate or not.

“On the way!” People want convenience. Instead of finding hard copy maps of places you want to go to, apps like these make it far easier to navigate. With just a tap on the screen, it will now show you how to go to your destination and the fastest route to get there. In the past, people often resort to printing out maps and ask the locals. Though of course, that is also a reliable method of navigation since you are asking the people who live in the area. From experience, whenever my family and I go on a road trip, we print out copies of maps of the destination, in case of loss of cellular coverage, and rely on GPS tracking devices. In that way, we can be assured that we are going in the right direction. If anything else goes wrong, there’s no harm in asking people where to go!

hello, hi! my name’s jewel and it’s nice to meet you whoever you are!
My media lifestyle revolves around my iPhone & MacBook. I cannot survive school without these two. Not only are they here for entertainment but they are my source of knowledge outside my home and school. News? It’s there. Class suspensions? It’s there. Even birthday reminders, it’s there!
I’m a big fan of BTS if you didn’t know. It’s really hard to communicate to artists especially if they are not local. Media has been my savior! It made me discover my love and adoration for the band and keeps me updated on what they are up to. (peep! follow them on twitter and stream fake love on youtube!)
Media habits are probably non-existent except for my phone. I’m not a big fan of televisions and newspapers but I do get my daily intake of news (even fake news, gosh!) on my social media. Though I try to make it a habit to watch the news before dinner, does that count? I hope so.
Media preference would still be, of course, social media. I can’t help it! It’s the most convenient one out there. I can take my phone and read whenever I want, with the exception of school hours of course.

“Think Before You Click”
For one to be able to know that they are media and information literate, one must be able to analyze, evaluate, and recreate the right type of content. With media interconnecting with other types of media, it is hard to know which information to assess.
Being a media and information literate, I once had come across a post wherein a famous facebook page posted a supposed to be ‘funny’ picture that making fun of the disabled. I quickly scrolled down the comments and it’s disheartening. Most of the comments were just people tagging their friends along with laughing emojis. Only a few people defended the person and to see that a lot of people encouraging that kind of behavior online is sickening.
I know that I still have a lot to learn to be an MI literate, which is why I really go by the saying “Think before you click.”.

2.) Example of power of media in different fields
In Education
New media has the power to inform users different kinds of information. From news to random facts, and online publications. Media has the power to pass knowledge from one generation to the next, to inform them of anything that is useful. Media has the power to influence young minds, mold their way of thinking and their principles in life.
In Politics
Persons involved in politics can use the power of media to persuade the mass audience to vote them. Our country is democratic and this form of government highly emphasizes the power of the people inside the country. This makes the power of media to persuade a vital part of any politics campaign; we can always hear campaign jingles, see campaign flyers everywhere when it's the time for elections.
In Communication
Media has the power to send and receive messages from different users. It has the power to connect two persons of varying locations, origins, or even time. Media possesses the power to make or break a relationship in terms of communication. Media can sometimes take too long in sending a message, making the receiver think that they're not fun to talk to; however it can also forge relationships across distance.

HOW DOES MEDIA CONVERGENCE AFFECT PRINT AND BROADCAST MEDIA?
Technology nowadays is evolving rapidly. Thanks to the inventors worldwide we can enjoy and live a happy life because we can access already access things easily. That's why I think media convergence is one of the best discoveries of this century. Media convergence allowed distinct kinds of media to fuse into. Though it has cons, like most of it is digitized, and when it is digitized you need to invest a lot of money into it. But still, the money you spent is worth it because you can enjoy multiple things in one gadget. I think there will be a time where media convergence will somehow end print media, though I don't think it'll be happening in our era, maybe for the next generations. I also think that it will be the age of broadcast media since broadcasting can be easily done in newer technologies.

Where do Filipinos lack in Media & Information Literacy Skills?
Ever since social media took over the world and instantly became an essential and a very important part of an individual’s daily lifestyle routine, it also increased the spread of false contents on the internet.
Our generation, being termed as the “fake news era” is definitely and completely disappointing to each and everyone of us.
One example that I can think of right now, on where Filipinos lack in Media & Information Literacy Skills are when a certain account on Facebook posted an information about a certain issue without officially confirming it and without certainty, and the Netizens who see it will actually believe it even without confirming if it’s true or even if the source is reliable. And then, what will happen is, it will quickly spread all over the country and what’s disappointing is, we actually believe all of it.
We live in a media-drive society so it means that all of us should have the responsibility to be able to distinguish between a factual information and a false information.

Watching concerts is a part of almost everyone's bucketlist. It's the only chance where you and your idol will be in the same place breathing the same air, along with the thousand other fans ofcourse. Yes it'll be memorable and enjoying, but it's also very exhausting and time consuming because you'll probably need a whole week for that. One day for the concert and the other six days for doing nothing but wait for the concert. But because of media convergence, you can already enjoy your idol's concerts through livestreams and recorded videos. Apps like youtube offers livestreaming. All you have to do is look for an illegal streamer, just kidding don't do that though I do it sometimes. Sometimes Youtube have pay for view concerts but ofcourse you have to pay. Because of media convergence, you saved tons of money and lots of your energy, and also your voice because you can't scream loudly in your house.
