A Retrospective On A Year Of Reading Thai Literature
Books read:
Aquanaut by Rick Stanton
A Wish In The Dark by Christina Soontornvat
Based on the fact that the narrator in “Aquanaut” embarks on a underwater exploration mission into the underwater caves of Thailand in order to save the boys trapped in the cave, I learned that Thailand boasts a diverse geography that includes not only beautiful beaches but also extensive cavern ecosystems. The vivid descriptions of underwater caves, their formations, and the space in the book highlight Thailand’s underground regions and its significance as a natural beauty and how entertaining it is to explore them. Also, While reading “A Wish in The Dark” My eyes were open to both the mountains as well as the rivers in the story which allowed me to picture more of Thailand’s natural beauty in just this narrative. With the descriptions of the water, and the mountain range really touched my heart.
In “A Wish In The Dark,” the story is set in a fictional Thai-inspired city called Chattana, where the narrative draws parallels to historical events like the abolition of slavery. Through this setting, I learned that Thailand has a complex history marked by social issues such as inequality and injustice. The book sheds light on how historical events have shaped Thai society and influenced its path towards progress and equality. In “Aquanaut” it is the actual story of the historic rescue of the 13 boys from the soccer team who were trapped in the cave.
Based on the fact that characters in both books engage with traditional Thai customs and beliefs, I learned that Thai culture is deeply rooted in traditions and spirituality. In “Aquanaut,” references to Thai cuisine like spicy curries and aromatic herbs showcase the importance of food in Thai culture. Additionally, the portrayal of Buddhist temples and rituals in “A Wish In The Dark” underscores the significance of religion in shaping social values and community practices in Thailand and the story of the light orbs is also significant as the most sacred light is the golden orb and in Thai culture, it is the color of Kings.
From “Aquanaut,” I learned about resilience and determination through the protagonist’s unwavering pursuit to rescue others and put your life on the line despite facing challenges in the underwater caves. This book emphasizes the importance of perseverance and courage in overcoming obstacles to achieve one’s goals. From “A Wish In The Dark,” I gleaned insights into themes of justice, compassion, and hope as characters navigate a world divided by privilege and poverty. The story highlights the power of empathy and solidarity in bringing about positive change and fighting against oppression. Together these two stories increased my understanding of Thailand and The beautiful world woven into these narratives. Both the real Thailand in “Aquanaut” as well as the world of Chattana in “A Wish In The Dark” painted Thailand in a way I have never thought of before. From the symbolism and thematic ideas in “A wish in the dark” touching my heart, to the heart-stopping, incredible narrative of the rescue of those boys in “Aquanaut”, I definitely recommend anyone to read Thai literature as it is very enjoyable.

I'm actually so glad Timeless Child and The Flux were bought up, yada yada David Tennant acting, but also just that reassurance that Jodie's era is still a thing. We had confirmation in The Star Beast, but seeing detailed accounts of events and then emotional responses? 13 lives ❤️

Our attempts at
0:48friendship tend to go adrift because we
0:50collectively resist the task of
0:52developing a clear picture of what
0:54friendships might really be for.
0:57The problem is that we're unfairly
0:58uncomfortable with the idea of
1:00friendship having any declared purpose,
1:02because we associate purpose with the
1:05least attractive and most cynical of
1:07motives.
Networking
It's an unfairly
1:32maligned idea. We're small, fragile
1:34creatures in a vast world. Our individual
1:37capacities are entirely insufficient to
1:40realize the demands of our imaginations.
1:42So of course we need collaborators,
1:45accomplices who can align their
1:47abilities and energies with ours.
Reassurance
we're
2:38permanently in danger of imagining that
2:40we are the only ones to be as crazy as
2:43we know we are.
Yet the reassuring
3:01true friend gives us access to a very
3:04necessary and accurate sense of their
3:06own humiliations and follies, insights
3:09with which we can begin to judge
3:11ourselves and our sad and compulsive
3:13lives slightly more compassionately.
Fun
life gives us
3:22constant lessons in the need to be
3:24serious.
We have to guard our dignity, avoid
3:27looking like a fool and pass as a mature
3:30adult. The pressure can become onerous
3:33and in the end even dangerous. That's why
3:35we constantly need access to people we
3:38can trust enough to be silly with them.
when we're together we
3:49can be therapeutically daft.
The fun friend solves the
4:05problem of shame around important but
4:08unprestigious sides of ourselves.
Clarifying our minds
To a
4:14surprising degree it's very hard to
4:16think on our own.
As a
4:21result, many issues lie confused within
4:24us.
The thinking friend
4:31holds us to the task. They ask gentle
4:34but probing questions which act as a
4:36mirror that assist us with the task of
4:39knowing ourselves.
 One side effect of
4:42getting a bit more precise about what
4:44we're trying to do with our social lives,
4:45is that we're likely to conclude that in
4:48many cases, we're spending time with
4:50people for no truly identifiable good
4:53reason. These proto friends share none of
4:55our professional ambitions or interests,
4:57they aren't reassuring and may indeed be
5:00secretly really very excited by the
5:02possibility of failure. We can't be
5:04catharticly silly around them and they
5:06aren't the least bit interested in
5:08furthering our or their path to self
5:10knowledge.
They are, like so many of the
5:13people in our social lives, simply in our
5:15orbit as a result of some unhappy
5:18accident that we've been too sentimental
5:20to correct. We should dare to be a little
5:23ruthless in this area. Culling
5:26acquaintances isn't a sign that we've
5:28lost belief in friendship, it's evidence
5:30that we're starting to get clearer and
5:32therefore more demanding about what a
5:34friendship could really be. In the best
5:37way the price of knowing what friendship
5:39is for may be a few more evenings at home
5:41in our own company

Eagles Exodus Continues: QB Carson Wentz Selling NJ Home
Corey Perrine/Getty Images
Following a trade to the Indianapolis Colts, former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz is letting go of his New Jersey nest.
The Woodstown, NJ, spread on 11 acres is now available for $1.7 million.
Wentz’s exit follows on the heels of Doug Pederson‘s departure. The fired head coach recently placed his Moorestown, NJ, home on the market for $2.7 million.
The quarterback purchased his place for $950,000, shortly after being picked second overall in the 2016 NFL Draft. He’s clearly hoping to net profit on his investment for his stint in South Jersey. The property is marketed as “totally remodeled”—which is probably what justifies the sharp uptick in price.

Set on 11 acres (realtor.com)
The listing notes there’s a 23-acre farm adjacent to the property that’s also up for grabs, if a buyer wants to shell out an additional $299,000. The available acreage explains the vast amounts of land surrounding the home, with nary a neighbor in sight.
Wentz’s modern mountain-style abode features beamed ceilings, walls of glass, wide-plank flooring, and sliding barn doors.
With 7,408 square feet of living space, the layout includes five bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms.
The open, airy living and dining space features a large entryway, as well as a staircase with custom banisters. It leads to the living area with built-ins, and a large kitchen, with stainless-steel appliances, a copper farmhouse sink, and a big granite island with seating.
A dining area adjoins the kitchen and features a stylish overhead light fixture. A large family room includes a floor-to-ceiling stone-surround fireplace, with access outside.
The owner’s suite opens to a deck, and comes with an attached, spalike bathroom, with a separate rain shower-head and soaking tub. Four more bedrooms offer private bathrooms and closet space.
The layout also includes an office, with built-in shelves and a fireplace.
On the lower level, the space has been tricked out with a custom bar, a lounge area with TV, and billiards area. Also on this level is a gym and a deluxe home theater that seats 10.
An additional garage space has been converted into another fitness area, with an indoor pool, a game room loft, work center, and a bonus hunting room with walk-in safe. If hunting isn’t your passion, this area could be turned back into garage space. In addition, there’s a three-car garage.
The lower level walks out to a terrace, outdoor kitchen, heated pool, and views of the pond.
The energy-efficient space includes geothermal heating, zoned AC, and a southern exposure, which all add up to low utility costs, according to the listing.
For those who commute to the city, the location is 30 minutes to Philadelphia sports centers.
Wentz, 28, had an up-and-down, five-season run in Philly. He was injured late in the season in 2017, which led to the backup Nick Foles taking the reins, and leading the team to an improbable Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots.
After a disastrous 2020 season, Wentz seems to be hoping to revive his career with the Colts.
Val Nunnenkamp with Keller Williams Realty-Marlton holds the listing.

Thoughts for Season 13
Living Arrangements:
As far as I’m concerned this nonsense has gone on long enough. Sure people live in close quarters all the time but not people whose nuclear family own ranches, multiple businesses and where the specific couple in question is a Vet and a well known horse whisperer, coach and trainer.
In Season 13 what I’d like to see is Mitch and Lou still a couple and leasing or renting a property so that they can live together. It’s perfect, they never have to show it on set. They’ll always be at Heartland. Tim can have the loft and Amy and Ty move in where they belong, the ranch house. No building, no new sets no lost characters. I know about Ty’s dream, that somehow his building a house trumps her connection to a 150 + year tradition in direct line. Don’t get me wrong, I can see a scene where first thing in the morning, Mitch is waiting to use the bathroom that Tim is in and Jack’s waiting for. That would be gross if Amy and Ty are still in that loft. I just for once would like to see something go in Amy’s favor. What would be the point of a new house on the property for Tamy ? A mortgage that won’t be paid before Jack dies or his age actually keeps him from “running” the ranch ? A nightmare of logistics just to get her to the main compound in the snow ? She’s alone with the baby away from the compound if Ty’s not around ? She’s worked for 12 years to keep Heartland going, it’s time someone said the words, the future of Heartland will be determined by Amy and Ty their family should grow in the ranch house. Submitted by: smokinholsters ________________________________
I always imagined Ty and Amy living in the ranch house too, continuing the tradition. It’s not that I’d want them to push Jack out, but for the time being, Jack, Lisa, Ty, Amy, Lyndy and Luke could very well live inside the house and it would be kind of like “the old times” (Jack, Lyndy, Tim, Marion, Lou and Amy). The thing is that Lou and the her girls would need to move out for it to work and I don’t know if they would actually do that because the show’s need to keep everyone under the same roof - or at least on the property. Georgie has a reason to come back to Heartland (her horses), so it wouldn’t be a problem and they could just mostly show Lou at Maggie’s/Hudson and occasionally taking part of the family dinners and they could still live “elsewhere”. Since they showed so little Katie this season, maybe the family dinners and occasional “get-togethers” would be their way to keep her in the show.
I don’t know if I see Lou and Mitch moving in together right away, especially with these current living arrangements, but I would like them to move together at some point. To a house, not into his trailer.
