Please show some L💜ve for the fastest woman of all-time, track and field athlete, #FlorenceGriffithJoyner ✨ Florence Griffith Joyner ran like no woman had ever run before. She became a household name after setting world records in the 100m & 200m at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea She did it with notable flair, too. In an age where runners were told, strictly, not to wear their hair long, wear jewelry or grow long nails, Flo Jo did just those things. It didn’t make her any slower, as coaches of the era would've claimed. She was the fastest runner in the world and she was going to act like it. Four-inch, decorative nails. One-legged leotards. Long, flowing hair. It didn't matter. She became such a fashion icon that, after Griffith retired from track in 1989, she was commissioned by the #IndianaPacers to design their uniforms. The “Flo-Jo’s,” as they were lovingly named, are still an icon of 90s basketball. Griffith was part of a family that became track royalty. She married Al Joyner, gold medal winner in the triple jump during the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. Her sister-in-law was Jackie Joyner-Kersee, an all-time great in the heptathlon and long jump who won six Olympic medals. Griffith passed away of an epileptic seizure in 1998. She had been treated for three seizures throughout the 1990s. She was 38. To date, her 200m world and Olympic record (21.34) as well as her 100m world record (10.49) still stand. The @LAClippers actually celebrated the team’s 35th season in Los Angeles with jerseys that featured the “L.A.” wordmark for the first time ever! The navy blue, red and white color scheme and color blocking are inspired by the uniforms of the 1984 #TeamUSA, which won in Los Angeles and was the last amateur U.S. team to win in men's basketball. The #LA logo featured on the new City Edition jersey’s chest is created in the style of the 1984 team, with the text arranged horizontally in patriotic colors and struck through with alternating streaks. “EL NUEVO FUEGO”

As many times as I’ve driven down Broadway in Los Angeles, and as big a fan as I am of Wayne Healy and David Botello of East Los Streetscapers, I’m not sure how I missed this 80’ tall wall until yesterday [usually driving the other direction], but happy to have found it. Painted in 1985 this was the first Los Angeles memorial of the 1984 Olympic Games hosted by the city. With 52 years between LA Olympics “The New Fire” is a reference to the Aztec tradition of extinguishing all lights every 52 years and lighting a new torch, restoring fire to the nation. While the demographics of Downtown Los Angeles have seen dramatic changes in recent years the mural highlights some of the minority athletes of the 1984 games, reflecting the makeup of the neighborhood at that time. Among the athletes represented are East LA boxer Paul Gonzales, and LA track star Valerie Brisco-Hooks.

One of my favorite murals in LA happens to be three blocks from my shop. Made of 2,300 individuals hand glazed tiles, the work measures 93’ x 24’ and is reportedly the largest tile mural ever created by a single artist working alone. ✨💪🏻⚒✨It was commissioned for the ‘84 Olympics. The outline on the jersey of blue and white looked so clean, and the stars down the side of the jersey was an added bonus. They look like they belong in the 60’s and 70’s, and I absolutely love it. The @LAClippers celebrated the team’s 35th season in Los Angeles with jerseys that featured the “L.A.” wordmark for the first time ever!
