Mandy McAllister’s younger brother will look a little different when he resurfaces on Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.
The Young Sheldon spinoff has cast Dougie Baldwin (Disjointed) in the series-regular role of Connor, TVLine has learned. He succeeds Joseph Apollonio, who originated the role of Mandy’s sib in a Season 6 episode of the Big Bang Theory prequel.
In Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Connor is “a talented oddball with musical prowess who still lives with his parents,” according to the official character breakdown. “Coddled by his mother, Audrey, and hassled by his father, Jim, Connor doesn’t fit in — even in his own family.”
Tumblr media
Additionally, Jessie Prez (Griselda) has boarded the spinoff as Ruben, a long-time employee at Jim’s tire store “who is less than enthusiastic about the shop’s newest hire: Jim’s son-in-law, Georgie.”
Baldwin previously co-starred opposite Kathy Bates in the Chuck Lorre Netflix comedy Disjointed. The Aussie actor’s previous TV credits also include Upper Middle Bogan and the International Emmy Award-winning Nowhere Boys.
Prez, meanwhile, recently co-starred as infamous drug dealer Sal Magluta in Netflix’s Emmy-nominated Griselda. Additional credits include episodes of 9-1-1: Lone Star, Abbott Elementary, Bosch: Legacy, The Rookie: Feds and Shameless.
Baldwin and Prez join fellow Georgie & Mandy regulars Montana Jordan, Emily Osment, Will Sasso and Rachel Bay Jones. Young Sheldon’s Zoe Perry and Annie Potts will guest-star in the pilot, while Raegan Revord will appear in Episode 2.
Tumblr media
The title Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is a play on previously established Big Bang Theory lore: In the hit sitcom’s 2019 series finale, Nobel Prize winner Sheldon said he received congratulatory texts from Georgie’s ex-wife… and Georgie’s other ex-wife.
During a recent interview with TVLine, Osment expressed hope that the new show would find a way to undo (or at the very least tinker with) Georgie’s marital history.
“I’m hoping that I’m the ex-wife and the new wife,” she said. “People get divorced and remarried. Why can’t she be both?”
Judging by the title, it sounds like that’s precisely what producers have in mind.
Unlike single-camera comedy Young Sheldon, multi-cam Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage will shoot in front of a live studio audience — just like The Big Bang Theory. The highly anticipated spinoff premieres Thursday, Oct. 17, at 8/7c, on CBS.

Fun fact: Andrew Scott, nominee for the 2021 Satellite Awards for Actor in a Miniseries, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, was last was nominated in 2019 for Fleabag. But although there’s a Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy Series category, for supporting it’s Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries or Television Film and the winner won for the winning best drama series.
Andrew Scott should win an award for the most award worthy performances without an actual award category/category fuckery (*cough*emmys twice*cough*) because there is a list. I know awards don’t matter to him but the fact of the matter is they do matter. But at the same time international and stage awards don’t exist. And even if they matter to him or anyone else for any reason there’s still the principle of it all. (And now that the secret is out and everyone knows the golden globes are bullshit why not replace his nomination with his bafta win in award parentheticals?)

The Long Journey and Intense Urgency of Aaron Sorkin's 'The Trial of the Chicago 7'
by Rebecca Keegan September 23, 2020, 6:00  am PDT
The director of the Netflix film, which stars Sacha Baron Cohen, Jeremy Strong, Eddie Redmayne and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, reveals why it took nearly 20 years to get the project about the politically motivated prosecution of protestors made and why it couldn't be more timely: "I never imagined today would go so much like 1968."
In October 2019, hundreds of protesters marched down Chicago’s Michigan Avenue toward the Hilton, chanting phrases like "No justice, no peace!" and "A people united will never be defeated!" as police in riot gear descended on the crowd with billy clubs and tear gas. Earnest and energized, clad in 1960s period costumes and flanked by vintage police vehicles, this group thought they were acting out the past, staging a scene from Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7. As it turned out, they were performing the future, too.
Sorkin’s film, which opens in select theaters Sept. 25 and hits Netflix on Oct.  16, tells the story of the riots at the 1968 Chicago Democratic National Convention and the circus-like trial of political activists that followed the next year. Thanks to Hollywood development hell, the movie is arriving 14  years after Steven Spielberg first mentioned the idea to Sorkin but just as its themes and plot points — civil unrest, a self-proclaimed "law and order" president’s vilification of protesters (Nixon then, Trump now), the police’s excessive use of force, tensions within the Democratic Party over how far left to move — have become bracingly current."I never wanted the film to be about 1968," Sorkin says in an interview over Zoom from his house in the Hollywood Hills on Labor Day weekend. "I never wanted it to be an exercise in nostalgia or a history lesson. I wanted it to be about today. But I never imagined that today would get so much like 1968."For only the second time in a career spanning nine films as a screenwriter, Sorkin serves as director with Chicago 7, helming a sprawling ensemble cast that includes Eddie Redmayne as anti-war activist Tom Hayden, Sacha Baron Cohen as Youth International Party (Yippie) provocateur Abbie Hoffman, Succession’s Jeremy Strong as counterculture figure Jerry Rubin and Watchmen’s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Panther party co-founder Bobby Seale. There are undeniable parallels not only between the film and the present political moment but also between the performance-art activism of the actors and the men they’re playing, most vividly Cohen, who, like Hoffman, has made a career of political self-expression through comedic stunts, including crashing a far-right rally in Olympia, Washington, this summer while pretending to be a racist country singer. (Cohen, who shoots most of his satirical projects incognito, impishly calls reports of his appearance at the rally  "fake news.")Eight months after Sorkin filmed the protest scenes in Chicago, Abdul-Mateen was marching in Black Lives Matter protests in West Hollywood, as was Strong in Brooklyn. "There’s power when a lot of people come together to protest out of anger, out of frustration," Abdul-Mateen says. "Everybody has a role in the revolution; this film shows that.
"Though the movie feels crafted for this political moment, it was born of another. At Sorkin’s first meeting with Spielberg, "I remember him saying, 'It would be great if we could have this out before the election,'" Sorkin says. The election Spielberg was talking about was 2008’s, when Barack Obama and Joe Biden faced John McCain and Sarah Palin. The film hit multiple roadblocks, beginning with the 2007-08 writers strike and continuing as financing faltered repeatedly, a fate illustrated by the more than 30 producers who can claim some sort of credit on Chicago 7. It took another unscheduled detour this summer after Sorkin finished it as the pandemic worsened, and the odds of original distributor Paramount mounting a successful theatrical release before the Nov. 3 election seemed increasingly slim. For some involved with the film, there is a question about the ethics of Hollywood inviting audiences to return to theaters before a COVID-19 vaccine is widely available. "
There’s a moral quandary that we, the motion picture business, have to be careful that we don’t become the tobacco industry, where we’re encouraging people to do something we know is potentially lethal," says Cohen. Before his visit to Spielberg’s Pacific Palisades home to discuss the project on a Saturday afternoon in 2006, Sorkin knew next to nothing about the Chicago 7. The federal government had charged seven defendants — Hoffman, Rubin, Hayden, David Dellinger, Rennie Davis, John Froines and Lee Weiner — with conspiracy for their participation in the protests against the Vietnam War outside the Democratic National Convention. (Originally the men were known as the Chicago 8 and included Seale, who asked to have his trial separated from that of the others and postponed so that he could be represented by his preferred lawyer, who was ill; that trial never took place.)
When Spielberg proposed a movie about the riots and the trial that followed, Sorkin, who was 7 in 1968, said, "'You know, that sounds great. Count me in.' As soon as I left his house, I called my father and said, 'Dad, do you know anything about a riot that happened in 1968 or a crazy conspiracy trial that followed?' I was just saying yes to Steven."Despite his ignorance, Sorkin was a logical choice to write the project: Having penned Broadway’s A Few Good Men and its 1992 film adaptation as well as the long-running NBC series West Wing, he’d shown a flair for dramatizing courtroom procedures and liberal politics, and he turned in his first draft of the Chicago 7 script in 2007. Originally, Spielberg planned to direct the project himself, but by the time the writers strike was over, he had moved on and a number of other potential directors circled, including Paul Greengrass, Ben Stiller, Peter Berg and Gary Ross, though none was able to get it off the ground. "There was just a feeling that, 'Look, this isn’t an Avengers film,'" Sorkin says of the studios' move away from midbudget dramas and toward action tentpoles in the 2010s. "This isn’t an easy sell at the box office. And there are big scenes, riots, crowd scenes. How can this movie be done for the budget that makes sense for what the expectation is at the box office?"As the project languished, Sorkin tried writing it as a play, ultimately spending 18 months on a fruitless effort to fashion a stage treatment. "What I didn’t like was having a script in my drawer," he says. "I was just thinking, 'Jeez, this is a good movie and it feels like it’s stillborn.'"It was the confluence of two events that ultimately revived the film with Sorkin in the director’s chair in 2018 — the 2016 election of Donald Trump and the 2017 release of Sorkin’s well-received directorial debut, Molly’s Game, which doubled its production budget at the box office. "This is before George Floyd and Breonna Taylor and police protests or confrontations," Sorkin says. "This is just when Donald Trump was musing nostalgically about the old days when they used to carry that guy [a protester] out of here on a stretcher and punch the crap out of him."With Trump’s throwback rhetoric lending the subject matter a new timeliness and Sorkin’s directing chops confirmed in Spielberg’s eyes, the movie moved forward with its screenwriter at the helm.
Cross Creek Pictures came in to finance, and Paramount bought the domestic rights. But all those years in development had left an expensive imprint on the project — a jaw-dropping $11  million had been spent on casting costs, producing fees and the optioning of Brett Morgen’s 2007 documentary about the event, Chicago 10, leaving just $24  million for the actual 36-day production.
One way Sorkin attempts to achieve a sense  of scope despite that budget is by intercutting real black-and-white news footage with his dramatized protests. He rounded out his large cast with a deep bench of experienced and award-winning actors including Oscar winner Mark Rylance as defense attorney William Kunstler, Oscar nominee Frank Langella as Judge Julius Hoffman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as prosecutor Richard Schultzand, Oscar nominee Michael Keaton as former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark — with the filmmaker and many of his actors working for scale. (Abdul-Mateen and Strong both became first-time Emmy winners Sept.  20.)Sorkin shot the protest scenes on location in Chicago and built a courtroom set in an old church sanctuary in Paterson, New Jersey, because none of the available courtroom locations in the Garden State conveyed the scope he wanted. "If we’re saying the whole world is watching, I want a packed courtroom for six months full of press and spectators," Sorkin says. "I wanted the big, cavernous feeling of the federal government and its power coming down on these people."
Tumblr media
Julian Wasser/The LIFE Images Collection via Getty Images/Getty Images           "The movie is tribute to the bravery of the protesters of 1968 [pictured] and today in Belarus, on the streets of America, in Portland," says Cohen.
Among the vestiges of Spielberg’s original plan was the casting of Cohen as Hoffman, which required the London native to affect a Boston accent and return to a subject he had studied as an undergraduate at Christ’s College in Cambridge, where he wrote a thesis paper about Jewish activists during the civil rights movement. At 19, Cohen had interviewed Bob Moses, the leader of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, which Hoffman was involved in before he founded the anti-war Yippie movement. "Honestly, I was very proud of the fact that Jews were involved in the Black civil rights movement in the '60s, and there wasn’t much written about it," Cohen says, explaining his youthful scholarship.
There’s a clear line to draw between Hoffman’s 1960s theatrics — which included throwing fistfuls of money into the gallery of the New York Stock Exchange and vowing to levitate the Pentagon — and Cohen’s contemporary TV and film pranks. Perhaps among Cohen’s most memorable and pointed gags was getting Vice President Dick Cheney to gleefully autograph a waterboard kit, which the comic did while posing as an admiring Israeli anti-terror expert for a 2018 episode of Who Is America?, his Showtime series. “What I wanted to do was to show that he was proud of torturing," Cohen says. "I could not believe how happy Cheney was to be sitting next to an uber-fan. So, yes. Ultimately in the shows and the movies that I do, I’m trying to be funny, but yeah, I’m trying to get out the anger that I have within me."
Cohen sees Hoffman’s unorthodox protest methods as pragmatic. "The Yippies were underfunded, and he was using theatricality to gain attention for his aims," Cohen says. "He wanted to stop the war. And how do you do that? You use stunts and absurdist humor to try to effect change." The actor estimates that, after researching Hoffman, he pitched Sorkin hundreds of lines the activist had really delivered. "As an annoying person with a lot of chutzpah, I was emailing Aaron every other night until morning, 'What about this line? What about this line?'" Cohen says. The writer-director, known for his exacting prose, politely tolerated the suggestions while largely sticking to his own script.
As Rubin, Strong is playing Hoffman’s conscientious jester sidekick, a role wildly different from the tragic, wealthy approval seeker he portrays on Succession. Strong added some of his own dramatic flourishes, including painting words on his chest for one courtroom scene and bringing a remote-controlled fart machine to disrupt Langella’s imperious judge. "I wanted to channel as much as possible that spirit of the merry prankster and of joyous dissent," Strong says. Hoffman and Rubin’s real-life personae were so large that Sorkin at times asked his actors to dial down their faithful portrayals, requesting, after one particularly jubilant take, "less cowbell."
Sorkin’s script draws a sharp contrast between Hoffman and Rubin’s campy methods and Hayden’s more reserved approach to the anti-war movement, with the tensions between Hoffman and Hayden supplying the film’s key relationship in a kind of begrudging brotherhood of the peace movement. To learn more about Hayden, Redmayne studied remarks that Jane Fonda, who was married to the activist and politician from 1973 to 1990, made upon his death in 2016. In his own life, Redmayne is cautious when it comes to discussing the role that he, as an actor at the center of a huge studio franchise (Warner Bros.’ Fantastic Beasts) might have in political life. "I find it endlessly challenging," Redmayne says of navigating his public activism. "There’s the elitist thing. It’s speaking up on climate change but being conscious that you’re traveling a lot. One has to be aware of one’s own hypocrisies, because they can be detrimental to something you believe in. So sometimes I find that I have to live my life and speak to my advocacy in a way in that it’s around friends, family and people I know rather than making something public."
Abdul-Mateen has begun his acting career largely associated with fantastical roles, like Dr. Manhattan on HBO’s Watchmen, Black Manta in Aquaman and Candyman in the upcoming Jordan Peele-produced remake of the slasher film. Playing Seale represented a chance to do more grounded work and to depict a man who had loomed large during Abdul-Mateen’s childhood in Oakland, where Seale co-founded the Black Panthers in 1966 and later ran for mayor. Seale’s inclusion in the original Chicago riots indictment was controversial and strange — prosecutors accused him of conspiring with men he’d never met after visiting Chicago that week for only a few hours to deliver a speech. For the prosecution, Seale functioned largely as a prop to tap into the fears of white jurors and white Americans watching the news coverage, and during the trial he had no attorney. "I wanted to key in on, how did Bobby Seale survive this trial?" Abdul-Mateen says. "How did he survive the gross mistreatment by the United States government, and how did he go through that with his head high and not be broken? It was an exercise in finding my pride, finding my dignity."
In one scene, Seale is brought into the courtroom bound and gagged, and throughout the trial he is kept separate from the white defendants. "Although it was meant to be a humiliating act, I walked out with my chest high, with my head high. Bound and gagged and everything else. It would be very dangerous for a Black man in that time, even sometimes today, to show the proof of the wear and tear that oppression can take on a person, because that can be seen as a sign of weakness, and a sign of weakness is an open door that it’s working." For the moments of lightness that Cohen and Strong bring to the movie, Abdul-Mateen supplies ballast. "It’s important for the right reasons and at the right time to make art that makes people uncomfortable," he says.

Spielberg has remained involved in the film "in an emeritus role," Sorkin says, "from giving me good script notes to casting to notes on early cuts of the film." He also showed up to the New Jersey courtroom set. "When you have to direct a scene in front of Steven Spielberg, you’re not at your most relaxed necessarily," Sorkin says. Spielberg did not, however, take an executive producing credit on the film and declined to be interviewed about it.
The decision to switch to a streaming release came after an early summer marketing strategy call between Sorkin, Paramount chief Jim Gianopulos, other Paramount execs and some of the film’s producers. "At the end of the call, Jim said, 'Listen, we don’t know what the theater business is going to look like in the fall. We have troubling data telling us that the first people back in movie theaters are going to be the people who think that the coronavirus is a hoax,'" Sorkin says. This was clearly not the intended audience for a movie whose heroes are liberal activists. "I said, 'I don’t think the Idaho militia are going to be the first people coming to this movie,'" Sorkin says.
The group agreed to explore alternatives and gave Netflix, Amazon, Apple and Hulu 24 hours to watch the film. After a bidding war, Chicago 7 landed at Netflix in a $56  million deal against its $35  million production budget, with a robust marketing campaign and promise of a theatrical release. "We knew we didn’t have the option of 'Let’s wait a year,'" Sorkin says. "This is what we’re thinking about and what we’re talking about right now, and it just would have been a real shame to not release it now."
After Chicago 7 opens in limited release, Netflix will add more theaters in the U.S. and abroad throughout October, expanding upon the film’s premiere on the service, a strategy akin to what it provided Oscar best picture nominees The Irishman and Roma, albeit in a wildly different theatrical environment.
As Hollywood opens up to more production, Sorkin, and many of the Chicago 7 actors, have begun returning to work. Abdul-Mateen has been in Berlin for The Matrix 4 and Redmayne in London for Fantastic Beasts 3, while Sorkin is shooting a West Wing reunion special at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown L.A. that will premiere on HBO Max in October as a fundraiser for When We All Vote and include video appearances by Michelle Obama, Bill Clinton and Lin-Manuel Miranda
For the real-life Chicago 7, the denouement consisted of ultimately being acquitted of conspiracy. Judge Hoffman sentenced Seale to four years in prison for contempt of court, one of the longest sentences ever handed down for that offense in the U.S., but those charges were overturned on appeal. Just three of the original eight defendants — Seale, Froines and Weiner — are still alive, but the legacy of the case lives on in contemporary protest movements. "The movie is tribute to the bravery of the protesters of 1968 and the protesters of today in Belarus, on the streets of America, in Portland," Cohen says. "These people now are risking their lives, and they’ll continue risking them."

The Marvel Cinematic Universe comes to television with WandaVision the new Disney+ series that places a super-powered Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany in the suburbs of classic sitcoms.

EMMY – When you wish upon a luxurious star, you just might land at Club 33 in Disneyland.
Tucked away above New Orleans Square and decorated with historic flourishes (the harpsichord at reception belonged to Walt Disney’s wife, Lillian), it’s a pricey, ultra-exclusive club for members and VIPS. On August 25, 2019, Marvel Studios president and chief creative officer Kevin Feige, joined by producer-director Matt Shakman, enjoyed lunch and swapped stories there with Dick Van Dyke and his wife, Arlene.
“It was unbelievable!” Feige recalls. “You sit down and don’t know what to say because you’re so starstruck.” Shakman is more succinct: “It was the best afternoon of my life.”
They weren’t there just to catch up with a 93-year-old legend. They were about to start production on an innovative Disney+ series called WandaVision — which Shakman will only describe as a “love letter to television” — and they wanted to hear about the star’s experiences on his groundbreaking 1960s sitcom, The Dick Van Dyke Show.
Van Dyke waxed about his fellow actor and the show creator, Carl Reiner, who mined real-life anecdotes for the episodes, as well as his own delight at filming in front of live studio audiences.
In turn, Feige talked about the new series he was executive-producing with Shakman, among others. “I tried to explain how there was this robot and a witch and how she had to kill him because Thanos reversed time,” he says with a laugh. “I’m thinking, ‘He doesn’t need to hear this!'”
With the premiere of WandaVision on January 15, it will all click. Set after the events of the 2019 blockbuster Avengers: Endgame, the weekly series — which is patterned on prototypical sitcoms of various eras — explores the adventures of Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and her love, an android named Vision (Paul Bettany).
Yes, Vision died when the Mind Stone was ripped from his forehead in the 2018 film Avengers: Infinity War, and he is still dead. But rules can be malleable when one of the two main characters is also known as Scarlet Witch.
“What I love about Wanda in the comic books, and what drew me to her originally,” Olsen says, “is what we get to explore in a beautiful way.” To that end, even a witch couldn’t have manipulated the series’ timing any better.
When Disney+ launched in November 2019, it did so with the promise that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) would soon unveil new series based on some of its lower-profile action heroes. At last, fans of the gazillion-grossing, 23-movie Infinity Saga would enjoy extensive and exclusive insights into the likes of Falcon, the Winter Soldier, Wanda, Vision, Loki and others, all in episodic installments.
But the global pandemic wreaked havoc on production schedules. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier — which required a complex, multi-city shoot and was set to lead the charge — got pushed to 2021. That left WandaVision, which aims to change the future of the medium by paying homage to its past.
“The show is complicated,” explains co-executive producer Mary Livanos, “because we’re incorporating the rules of the MCU and narrowing in on suburban family sitcoms — but not all the episodes are structurally similar.
“What’s fun about it is that it leads the audience to ask questions about when this takes place or whether this is a social experiment and if this is an alternative reality and an unraveling of the mystery. We’re excited that the Disney+ platform allows us the creative space to play around.”
Indeed, with revenues from cruises, theme parks and cinema down sharply due to the pandemic, Disney+ emerged as the clear winner in the Disney portfolio, signing more than 73 million global members in just 11 months. (The company had initially set its five-year goal at 60 million to 90 million.)
Meanwhile, the Star Wars series The Mandalorian nabbed an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Drama Series — and seven awards in crafts categories — and the MCU has expanded into the freshly minted series She-Hulk, Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel.
Those successes led to a major announcement this fall from new chief executive Bob Chapek: Disney would realign its business divisions to focus future creative efforts squarely on Disney+.
Feige admits to growing up with “a near-unhealthy love and obsession” for some of the characters on his favorite shows, like Alice and Little House on the Prairie, and he’s just as committed now to his behemoth production studio.
“Streaming is 100 percent the future and where consumers want to watch things,” he says. “And hopefully they’ll want to watch our longform narrative series. An experience like WandaVision is something you can’t get in a movie. You go to movies for things you can’t get on streaming, and you go to streaming for things you can’t get in a theater. And of course, everything in a theater goes to streaming eventually.”
It was back in the days of yore — ahem, early 2018 — when then–Disney CEO Bob Iger approached Feige about extending the MCU for what would be a new Disney streaming service. At the time, Feige, who started at Marvel Studios as a producer in 2000 and became president of production in 2007, was wrapping up the 10-year-long Infinity Saga storyline.
“My team and I were wondering internally about where to go from here, and what would be the next step that was equally challenging and unexpected,” he relates. The notion of extending the brand to television “was an adrenaline boost.” Looking to showcase MCU characters who hadn’t yet reached their potential in terms of screen time, he zeroed in on Wanda and Vision and their romantic but doomed love story.
“Elizabeth and Paul were these amazing actors — who had done amazing things in four movies — but never had a chance to dominate the narrative because there was so much else going on,” he explains. “It felt fun to finally give them a platform to showcase their astounding talent.”
Bettany, for one, assumed that his run as Vision had ended with his death in Infinity War. “I was called in to see Kevin and [Marvel copresident] Louis D’Esposito and was convinced that they were going to be gentlemen and say, ‘It’s been a great ride; thank you for your work and good luck,'” he recalls. Instead, they pitched him what he describes as an “exciting and bonkers” idea for the character’s return. “Of course, I said I was in.”
During Olsen’s meeting? “Kevin told me he wanted to merge two different comic series as inspiration. He explained the series would show how Wanda is originally from an Eastern European country and grew up on American black-market products like television,” she says, then cuts herself off to avoid revealing spoilers.
At first, she says, “I was a little bit nervous about Marvel doing something on television, because what does that mean and how could it possibly intertwine? But I got so excited when I heard that nugget of the idea.”
That nugget grew into a fleshed-out narrative in early 2019 after Livanos, who is also director of production and development at Marvel Studios, tapped screenwriter Jac Schaeffer (Captain Marvel, Black Widow) as head writer. “We envisioned Wanda and Vision in this sitcom setting but didn’t know what that meant until Jac came on,” Livanos says.
Schaeffer remembers: “I got wind of this percolating crazy notion of this project and told myself that I needed to get in on that!” …

Nicholas Britell and Hildur Guðnadóttir crowned winners at the 19th World Soundtrack Awards
After winning the Discovery of the Year Award in 2017, Nicholas Britell took home another award this year: he was named Best Film Composer of the Year by the World Soundtrack Academy for his soundtrack for 'If Beale Street Could Talk.'
The prize for Best Television Composer of the Year went to special guest and Emmy winner Hildur Guðnadóttir, who created the score for the popular HBO series 'Chernobyl'. Last year, Guðnadóttir was one of the Discovery of the Year nominees for 'Sicario: Day of the Soldado'. In the meantime, both Britell and Guðnadóttir have made a name for themselves worldwide with their scores for the HBO series 'Succession' and Todd Philips' 'Joker' respectively.
The prize for Best Original Song Written Directly for a Film was awarded to the track 'Shallow' from 'A Star is Born'. This composition was written by Lady Gaga, Andrew Wyatt, Anthony Rossomando and Mark Ronson, and was performed by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.
African-American composer Michael Abels was named Discovery of the Year for the score he created for Jordan Peele's 'Us'. The pair had already collaborated before on the film 'Get Out'.
In the category of Best Original Score for a Belgian Production, Belgian Frédéric Vercheval was awarded for his score for Olivier Masset-Depasse's 'Duelles'. The composer has already been nominated four times for the Magritte Award for Best Original Score for 'Diamant 13' (2009), 'Krach' (2010), 'Not My Type' (2014) and 'Melody' (2014).
Young American jazz pianist and composer Pierre Charles won the SABAM Award for the Most Original Composition by a Young International Composer. The Public Choice Award went to John Powell for his music in Dean Deblois' 'How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World'.
As previously announced, Krzysztof Penderecki was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award. The Polish composer undoubtedly put his mark on film music history with his innovative and unconventional music. He collaborated with world famous composers such as Stanley Kubrick ('The Shining'), David Lynch ('Inland Empire', 'Twin Peaks'), Martin Scorsese ('Shutter Island') and William Friedkin ('The Exorcist').
Frédéric Devreese was also given a Lifetime Achievement Award. In light of his 90th birthday, Brussels Philharmonic honoured the father of Belgian film music. Devreese is known for his collaboration with André Delvaux on Palme D'or nominee 'L'oeuvre au noir', but also 'Du bout des lèvres' (Jean-Marie Degesves) and 'Les Noces Barbares' and 'Il Maëstro' (Marion Hansëm).
During the award ceremony, compositions were performed live by Brussels Philharmonic, conducted by maestro Dirk Brossé, with accompanying clips on the big screen. Guest of honour this year was Marco Beltrami, known for his horror scores including the 'Scream' franchise. "Hahaha. A friend pointed this out. W online shops too!" What does this even mean?! I don't know anyone in 2020 who doesn't online shop besides my 80 year old grandparents because they refuse to learn how to use a computer 😂 I don't get how Will, a 30 something year old man, online shopping is worthy enough for Abby to comment on it. I'm sure Chris does it too. And Darren.
On Nov 5, Darren wrote this post and the cc fandom lost their shit.
Tumblr media
They decided that organizing 10 costumes for multiple events in two different states for two different people was not worthy of acknowledgment- especially since they wore several purchased costumes. They spent the next 30-ish days mocking her “online shopping skills” like the petty idiots they are and now they bring it up two months later.
Anonymous asked: this is funny, C posted a photo of beard, D posted photos with the beard. Almost like they were sitting next to each other and saying “ok ok I will say this”
ajw720 answered: The only difference, C controls his SM and the bearding, D does not, but they knew the Halloween post was coming when C posted his belated b-day wishes (not that he acknowledged they were late).
It really is, if you can remove the very human, tragic element, like a script for a really bad D Movie.  C posts “Happy Birthday, Babe!” a day after the man’s actual b-day and “D” praises his fake bride for MAKING TEN costumes.  Sure praise her if she actually designed them and sat with her sewing machine.  No, she went online and ordered things (I doubt she even went to a store).   And 3 couple costumes were cheap frankly.  The only thought was how narcissistic she could be in their execution (as @flowersintheattic254pointed out even the Mario costume had  a reason, it was a reminder of Japan and the fake encagement by referring to the ad that paid for their trip there).
And seriously how are people not questioning that she spent the entirety of her month picking TEN costumes?  Who has time for this?  I know, i know, a person whose only role in life is to play fake plus one.
I am just so tired by D in particular being utterly dragged down by the useless dead weight by his side and his team’s sole ambition to promote her and make her sound like a decent person.
If they wanted to praise her, maybe they should have forced her to participate in the zero waste initiative instead of sitting drinking by the pool or have her volunteer to help young girls who have been kicked out of their homes, or have been raped.  Or pick any cause and truly volunteer her time to promote it.  If she is not going to actually get a job and pursue a career, please force her to do something that is actually of value and contribute something good to the world. But to praise her for picking TEN costumes?
Praise that comes from a man who this year alone won three awards, is starring in a show he created and wrote the music for, has his first big movie premiere this week, is exec producer and star of a huge show on N/etflix, just announced his starring role with 2 A++ lists actors next spring on Broadway, celebrated the 5th anniversary of the festival he created, volunteered his time for the zero waste initiative, performed at several charity events, and was just yesterday name limited series actor of the decade.  Where is the praise for him from his “bride”?  He at least deserves it.
How do they not see how ridiculous it is for someone with D’s accomplishments in 2019 alone praise a person for purchasing TEN costumes for Halloween?  And stans, how do you accept that this is right or normal.  You really know nothing about him and have such little respect for him as a person if you continue to accept the character his idiotic team has created on his behalf.  It is so far from the person he is and that he generally holds himself out to be when given the opportunity.
This isn’t about being a “gay fetishist” or “hating woman” this is about wanting for D to be fairly and accurately represented and no longer forced to participate in this stupid, life sucking game to promote a person that contributes absolutely nothing to the world.  If you want to have a strong female role model, there are so many, i’ve talked about a few in the past few days (thus far Nancy, Lea, and Phoebe) and will continue to do so, but please stop worshiping a person whose sole reason you are speaking about her is her connection to D, even if you refuse to accept it is fake.
klainecentric Finished reading the funniest ig story of the day, the qween being praised for sitting in front of either a sewing machine or computer...bravo your majesty qween....your my hero well done.👏👏. And all I can think of is how irrelevant the statement D made about being an emotional horder, being a very private person and finally D saying he's lazy when it comes to social media, I'm internally screaming in frustration because yeah we know D wouldn't have written a post praising that lazy good for nothing waste of space but he's coming across as a lier and it's extremely damaging to his character as a person. I absolutely hate lying and every time another "private" moment is posted to the world is another small piece that's chipped away from what D has originally stated about privacy. PBB, nobody cares about your cheap arse highly flammable costumes you buy online, did you forget about your piano baby adult strip club. I'm sure there are still plenty of people out there you can hire to rub and flaunt their flanges all over the beer taps, why don't you keep busy on that instead. If you want to make costumes, I'm sure you can sew some mighty fine titty tassels together. It'll be cheap nasty, sound familiar.
souly So, let me get this straight. We should all praise a person for going online, looking up different costumes in online stores, putting those in their shopping basket and hitting “buy”? Because I do that at least once a week with other stuff. Do I get praised for that now? Pretty please? I’m doing good work there and buy a lot of stuff, therefore I must be the best person ever!
notes-from-nowhere You’re my Queen. Please, love me.

(I think I got it right. I’m getting the hang of what said person is doing. Wheee! ;))
notes-from-nowhere You nailed it 🤣
ajw720 Yesterday I got a delivery of car food. And instead of his usual seafood mix up greats, I got him shrimp flavor. I’m awesome!!!!!
souly Oh, hey! I think we should all take pictures of whatever we bought online during the week or month and make individual posts on all of our social media accounts about it. Because, you know…
Tumblr media
cassie1022 I picked up stuff I ordered online at Target and PetSmart. Does that count? Should I receive accolades because my cat will have fresh litter to do her business on?
souly Only if you post the pictures to prove it! ;)
ajw720 As soon as I get home. Pictures forthcoming. Shrimp cat treats and I also got a burgundy blanket for my new comforter!!! Life goals!!!!!!!!!!!
souly Okay, so, let’s see… What did I buy online during the past month that can be shared as pictures? Some things are gifts, so I obviously can’t post anything about those yet. But I think these here are safe.
Let’s start with one of my fav new shirts. (Excuse the grainy quality. I had to quickly edit it for privacy reasons. :p And yes, that’s a butterfly mirror.)
Tumblr media
The rest are behind the cut to save your dash from drowning in too many pictures. ;)
cheekyface72 You’re my queen from now on…
ajw720 I think emmy/sag/gg/CC winner DC should write a post @soulypraising your awesome, amazing, unparalleled online shopping skills!  You earned that praise.  That cat toy is particularly spectacular.

flowersintheattic254. When you add the fact that the wedding was sponsored so heavily, and her history of outfits I think it shows Mi@rren is something that’s always been done very much ‘on the cheap’.
From work vacays (honeymoon included), RC ‘glue gun’ looks, thrift shoes and subsidized weddings.
It’s BUDGET BEARDING!!!
leka-1998. It’s not worth more than this, that’s for sure.
notes-from-nowhere  We are so ungrateful. She worked hard to find the gloves.

I bet she had to click on another link to find them. She deserves another accolade.
ajw720 @flowersintheattic254 Budget Bearding!  I LOVE It! (and something tells me D’s SW costume in particular was far cheaper than either of these).
souly That Snow White dress can be found for about $25 in a ton of online shops. I stumbled upon it even before Halloween way too many times. 😂
@notes-from-nowhere The plush question mark block can be found in a couple online stores like this one. She simply glued it onto some gloves - or asked L to do it with that glue gun of hers.
flowersintheattic254 Well funnily enough I think we may have confirmation that 🚽🚽 glued on the puppies so I guess YES to the question mark block too!!!

Whenever I see miarren gifset they always use the same quote underneath (the rolling the windows down quote) and at first I rolled my eyes and thought uh not that quote again, and I can't believe it took me this long to realise it's because there is literally no other quote that can be construed as loving. You can hardly put down "she's a big girl" whenever you make a set of gifs with M beaming and D looking like someone murdered the dog he's allergic to.
ajw720: And I love the Emmy quote as it was an absolute reference to his character who was a psychopath. Pretty telling if you ask me. But that reference is over their heads.
And pretty much the only one. Guess saying he’s a ball and chain kind of guy isn’t romantic. They can’t even take pooping exes as he clearly steered the conversation away from her. Lovely lady of many moons? Nah she sounds like a stranger. Saying nothing changes after marriage? Sounds boring. It’s a struggle. But hey she’s an excellent online shopper that he done got hitched to!!!

RuPaul’s Drag Race Analysis
Overview
RuPaul’s Drag Race is an American reality competition TV show where the contestants compete to be named “America’s Next Drag Superstar” and earn a cash price of US$100,000 and a cosmetic supply sponsored by some major makeup brand like Anastasia Beverly Hills. It is hosted by RuPaul Charles, a famous American Drag Queen and fashion icon, and it counts with the participation of countless celebrity guest judges. The show was released on 2009 and launches a new season every year. This February the season 12 will be premiered. The contestants are mainly American, but the main requirement is just to be living in American, so in these years many non-American Queens coming from Australia, England, Puerto Rico, Panama, South Korea, amongst others, have competed for the title. The contestants are basically all male but in its 11 past seasons, the show has counted with the participation of some transgender women that still compete as Drag Queens.
Tumblr media
Format
The show has a much defined format, where every episode starts with a mini challenge followed by a main challenge and it closes with a runway presentation. At the end of the episode, the contestants with the lowest performance are selected and they must make a lipsync competition to earn the right of remain in the competition until there is only 3 or 4 contestants left, who will move to the grand final and the winner is announced in a live show held in a theater. At the beginning of the season, the challenges tend to be group challenges, but as the competition moves forward and the Queens are eliminated, the challenges tend to become individual or pair challenges. RuPaul himself is the main judge and its present in every episode, along with Michelle Visage as a permanent judge and it usually have 2 celebrity guest judges that goes from TV show actors to big Hollywood personalities.
Tumblr media
Queer Community
Since its release and due to the notoriety that the show has earned with the time, the show has become a world symbol for the queer community. This has happened not only because of the change of the Drag Queens image, that went from being only associated to night clubs and comedy to the runway of mayor couture brands, but also because RuPaul Drag Race has been treating the contemporary problems associated to the LGBTQ community since the very first episode. From supporting charities to speaking up for transgender rights, the contestants and RuPaul himself has made a mayor impact when it comes to these issues. Since the show became very popular, is not uncommon to see characters related to it in the Pride season all over the world and taking over social media to speak about issues like gay marriage and sexual discrimination. The show has also served as an inspiration for queer people all over the world to make front to their personal issues related to their sexuality and its even known that it has helped the same participants to overcome past disagreements in their families, since it puts a strong emphasis in the acceptance and the concept of family in the queer community, and also in the problems of bullying or generalized discrimination against the LGBTQ community.
Tumblr media
Impact
The impact that this show has had on the world is not limited to the queer community. After RuPaul Drag Race’s first episode and with the popularity boom that the show has experienced over the years, Drag itself and Drag performers’ image started to change. Since it was an open TV show (currently it can be seen on VH1 and Netflix), the art of Drag came out of Night Clubs and became more approachable as the reality behind it and the life of the ones involved are shown naturally as part of the episodes, so the audience can know the reality behind something that they used to see only on the stage. The “behind the scenes” of the Drag scene was exposed in a massive way for the first time, so it was not just the performer what we were seeing on the screen, but we also had a look at the person behind the mask, and that even became relatable for people with a similar lifestyle. The popularity of the show has grown to such a level that it had to stop being exclusive of America and in 2019 was premiered the first season of RuPaul Drag Race UK, also featuring RuPaul himself and Michelle Visage as main judges but with british contestants and guest judges. Although not necessarily from RuPaul’s hand, other Drag shows also came up after Drag Race, like Drag Race Thailand, Queen of Drags (Germany), La más draga (México), The Switch (Chile), amongst others. Even in these international versions of the competition, it is common to see former Drag Race alumni as guest judges or even contestants. Not only the show itself brought Drag closer to the masses, but the creation of the Drag Con on 2015 (a massive event with a format like the famous Comic Con but with Drag as a main theme) also helped to take Drag out of the closed sphere were it used to be to put it in a weekend-long event where families and even kids can assist and get to know a little bit closer what it means to be a Drag Queen. With discussion panels, runway shows, sales booths and meet & greet with the different contestants, the popularity of the Drag Con has already reach a level where the event is held in different cities at least twice a year. This month was also held the first Drag Con UK after the huge success that the british version of Drag Race had last year after its first season. Hollywood has also recognized Drag Race as something big. The show has won several Emmy awards and different recognitions for its visual and reality-TV quality, including the award of best reality TV show host given to RuPaul. On the other hand, Drag Queens became usual characters in big Hollywood productions, like the case of the movie “A Star is Born” featuring Lady Gaga. The Fashion World has also expressed its interest as it became more and more usual to see the contestants attending famous designer’s shows, being the stars of Fashion Week and even walking in important runways and appearing in ads for mayor brands like Prada, but the ultimate success in the Fashion World happened on 2019, when for the very first time Drag Queens walked on the red carpet at the Met Gala sponsored by brands like Nyx cosmetics and Moschino. Drag Race has even reached the beauty world as the collaboration with established brands or the launch of original cosmetics collections by the participants became a reality, and now is even possible to find a perfume inspired and co-created by Season 7 winner, Violet Chachki. The popularity of the show comes mainly from its groundbreaking character; is the first time that something like this is done. If well it’s true that Drag had appeared in pop culture before, like in the documentary Paris is Burning or under the hand of Divine, a famous Drag Queen, Drag Race was able to reach a whole new level by opening the Drag art to the rest of the world and presenting it in a way that turned out entertaining a pleasantry to watch. Also, since we are talking about a reality show, each contestant can tell his story freely, which ads a layer of authenticity and makes the program more relatable. It is also entertaining and visually appealing, as the show focus a lot on visual aspects, glamour and beauty, since Drag is truly and art, and Drag Race honors it as such. But is not only the visuals of the show what put it in the top, but the fact that it deals with issues related to the LGBTQ community in such a direct and straightforward way is what made it attractive for the target audience, people inside the community and the so called “allies”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Analysis
There are 3 main points that are worth to talk about when it comes to Drag Race. The first one is gender, which turns out to be the most and the less important thing. The most important because is the most obvious topic related to Drag Queens since Drag is all about the gender fluency, and the less important because it doesn't really matter; when it comes to drag, the lines separating the masculine and the feminine are completely gone. Drag tells you that regardless of the gender you were born with, you can express yourself like you want without considering the social constructions and the labels that has been put into certain things, like makeup and heels being taken like something exclusively feminine. The second element is clothing. Drag is all about visuals, and clothes say a lot about how you want to present yourself. If you want to be a fashion queen, a conceptual queen or a comedy queen, the first thing to pay attention is the outfit. Especially in the show, the runway outfits will always be part of the evaluation and many challenges are about creating customes that fit into a theme, so the show pays special attention to the details on how the queens look. The third element is the role of TV. When it comes to reality TV shows, entertainment and drama are the first, but Drag Race goes beyond that. As it was mentioned before, the issues related to the LGBTQ community are a mayor thing that is constantly being mentioned and discussed in the show. Whether from the point of view and personal experience of the participants, the way of thinking and historical context provided by RuPaul himself or even the activism that happens off screen, problems like equal rights or the discrimination against queer community are never left out and educating the audience about them is something that always seems to be on RuPaul's mind ("educating the children" is a phrase that can often be heard), so when it comes to Drag Race, entertainment is always there, but TV also takes an active educational role on a certain issue that has a mayor importance on the show.

In some ways, the nomination is enough
As I write this, the 2019 Prime Time Emmy Awards are being presented. I’ve generally gone off awards shows, so I’m not watching this year. But still, with Jenna Coleman having now been nominated for an International Emmy Award (those are to be presented later in the year), it’s still cool to realize that even if she doesn’t win, she and her fans and her promoters can now say “International Emmy Award nominee” before her name, win or lose.
That’s a pretty big deal. I haven’t gone through all the names of her fellow Doctor Who veterans, but there aren’t that many with an Emmy nomination. Matt Smith has a Prime Time nomination for The Crown; David Tennant actually won a Daytime Emmy for his voice-acting work on one of the Star Wars animated series. (Peter Capaldi doesn’t have any Emmy nominations - despite being eligible for his last couple of seasons on Who - though he does have a little thing called an Oscar...) There might be other former companions or Doctors with Emmy nods, but Jenna’s breathing rarified air right now. Whether she gets the award or not later this year, she’s still a winner just for getting the nomination, much as the people nominated for acting Prime Time Emmys tonight still have seen their stock rise just for being a finalist.

Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
The Alienist The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story Escape at Dannemora Sharp Objects A Very English Scandal
Should win: The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. A shocking, sensitive true-life tale brought to vivid life. Will win: Expect the simmering female rage of Sharp Objects to dominate. Unless this is the category where the Globes really start Globes-ing, and Very English Scandal sweeps. —DF
Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television Antonio Banderas, Genius: Picasso Daniel Brühl, The Alienist Darren Criss, The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story Benedict Cumberbatch, Patrick Melrose Hugh Grant, A Very English Scandal
Should win: Darren Criss. 2018’s Top Darren already won an Emmy for his tricky, compelling work as murdering Andrew Cunanan. Will win: Hugh Grant. The HFPA is clearly a big fan of Grant’s work in the British biopic (and surely some voters are Paddington 2 fans, too!) —DF
Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television Alex Borstein, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Patricia Clarkson, Sharp Objects Penelope Cruz, The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story Thandie Newton, Westworld Yvonne Strahovski, The Handmaid’s Tale
Should win: In true #PeakTV fashion, Newton is the only repeat nominee in this category. Yvonne Strahovski’s consistently stunning work in an otherwise uneven second season of Handmaid’s should earn her the win, but the nomination is likely her award. Will win: Though Borstein has the momentum from her Emmy win, it’ll be hard to beat Glamorous International Superstar Penelope Cruz — and her platinum blonde wig — as Ginormous International Superstar Donatella Versace. —KB
