A Statement Through Horror: BDG and YouTube
In his video announcing his departure from Polygon Bryan David Gilbert [BDG] stated, “I want to make things that one day people will make a show like unraveled about.” [Paraphrasing here]. Since that announcement he has made some of the most interesting and engaging comedy videos on the platform. On Bryan’s channel, there is a section called “bdg’s scaries” that contains three videos. The first how to make jorts was released April 27, 2019 and will not be part of this analysis, as we are focused on the other two videos. These two videos are Earn $20K EVERY MONTH by being your own boss which was released on October 25, 2020 (two months before his final Unraveled video and departure from Polygon) and Teaching Jake about the Camcorder, Jan '97 which was posted March 3, 2021. If you have not seen these videos yet you should stop reading immediately and go watch them both (honestly everything on his channel is amazing, especially the surprisingly compelling and personal Dances Moving! series) before continuing to read this as I will be spoiling both of them. The position of YouTube celebrity has been the source of a good bit of commentary as short form online media has become more and more central in our culture. Bryan has created two videos that I feel do an excellent job of exploring the relationship between youtuber and audience. I should also point out that this is merely my interpretation of these videos and is in no way BDG’s intended message. I’ll start by going over the first video. Earn $20K EVERY MONTH by being your own boss opens with BDG outside an apartment building, standing in front of a black car. BDG points up at one of the windows and says, “Three years ago I was living in that apartment right there. Third floor, leaky windows, cockroaches, the worst.” I do not know if the real life BDG actually lived in that building, but the 3 years timeframe does line up neatly with his beginning to work at Polygon. BDG continues to bad mouth his old apartment and mentions how he has turned it all around stating, “But just last week I paid off my very first Subaru Impreza. And I own my own house in Nebraska.” This radical change in life-style he credits to, “. . . [working] from home, [making] my own hours, and [being] my own boss. And you can do it too.” I think that it is interesting that BDG’s career up to that point mirrors that of his character, going from newly graduated content creator making small videos in his apartment to one of the most popular creators on Polygon. And all that being accomplished through work that many (rightly or wrongly) would not see as fitting into the mold of the traditional 9 to 5. The idea of making millions working from home, at your own pace, and with no boss is intrinsically tied to the mystique of the YouTube celebrity. Moving into BDG’s office he explains that he makes $20k a month working on spreadsheets. A massive spreadsheet appears behind him that is dated, 01.12.88 (nothing of note happened on January 12, 1988 and the only thing that happened on December 1, 1988 is a large cyclone that struck Bangladesh, January 12, 1888 is the day of the Schoolhouse Blizzard which struck the midwestern US and killed 235 people (remember this for later)) and is filled, seemingly randomly, with garbled nonsense symbols. Many of the cells are the same as other cells and there are empty cells scattered haphazardly throughout the spreadsheet. BDG explains that he got this strategy from Dorian Smiles. In exchange for working on these spreadsheets BDG receives $10k - $20k a month (an amount that lines up pretty damn well with the amount he should be getting through his Patreon page currently, I don’t know if this was true when the video was made though) from Dorian. Wanting to know where the money is coming from BDG asks his bank and they explain that he is wiring the money to himself from another account he has. He grows confused as to the nature of this work and the disproportionately large amount of money it brings in, explicitly mentioning his confusion as to how the money is coming from someone with, “. . . my name and my voice.” and sets about to find and confront Dorian Smiles. BDG sets off for Center Nebraska, which is close to where Dorian lives (a small town in the northeast corner of Nebraska). He states that Dorian’s address hasn’t existed since 1888 (that’s a familiar year isn’t it?) when it was supposedly condemned during an enormous blizzard and is, “. . . just woods now.” The video then transitions to BDG walking through dark woods while his narration talking up the Dorian Smiles program continues becoming increasingly broken. He comes across a figure sitting in the woods that is convulsing strangely, when he calls out to it the figure turns and is him (heretofore named Dorian). Dorian slowly puts his hands over his nose and mouth while staring at BDG at which point the narration cuts out. BDG copies Dorian and when Dorian removes his hands in a flourish, BDG does the same to reveal that he no longer has a mouth. The video quickly cuts back to BDG in his office talking about the program, he asks the viewer, “Why don’t you join me?” and then sits back and smiles while that line repeats without him moving his mouth. The most pressing mystery is who Dorian Smiles is. I think the most likely answer (and one I know I am not the progenitor of) is that Dorian is a reference to The Picture of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde, the story of a young man that has a portrait that ages and takes on the ravages of the debauched life its subject lives while Dorian himself does not. BDG would therefore be the unwitting recipient of that blessing, reaping massive rewards while his double, Dorian, lives in poverty and solitude. I like this explanation for Dorian, but I find it to be far more mechanical than thematic. On a metatextual level you could read that Dorian represents the character of BDG. The person that is in all of BDG’s videos, and the one with whom so much of the audience forms a parasocial relationship. In this lens the parallels with BDG’s own life make more sense. By this point in BDG’s career it is not difficult to imagine him feeling stifled creatively at work (I feel comfortable saying this given how soon after this video came out that he departed Polygon). His character had grown too large, potentially becoming alien to him, no longer reflecting the art he wanted to make and so he made a video about a distorted version of himself stealing his voice. In this way the video becomes a statement on his artistic integrity and his desire to test new boundaries and go in different directions. In hindsight, with the knowledge of his departure and then success after leaving Polygon, the video becomes almost heartwarming (if it weren’t terrifying) in the same way that a before and after picture of someone improving themselves can be. We will return to the Dorian Smiles system, but now we must move to the second video, Teaching Jake about the Camcorder, Jan '97. I’ll save you the blow by blow breakdown and aim for a quick summary instead. This video is a simple stationary shot of an old CRT tv. A VHS tape is inserted and a video of a man teaching his, evidently young, son how to use a camcorder plays. It is relatively wholesome and corny in that way that all home movies are and when it ends the tape rewinds and the segment plays again, this time with a few deviations. Over replays the father becomes aware of what is happening and begins trying to reason with Jake through the camcorder begging him to stop watching the tape and move on. The father is menaced by a large shadowy figure that does not speak or move when confronted. Eventually the father resorts to simply taking the camera and recording his own screams of pain. On the final rewind the father simply says, “Attaboy.” before calmly walking out the room and into the dark hallway, a doorway opens at the other end, filled with orange light, and the father walks through and down stairs. The final shot of the video is of the television, showing the hallway, as orange light begins to flicker in the background of the left side of the TV. The sound of the father descending the stairs transitions from the TV to diegetic and a shadow appears briefly in the light. On one level the video is clearly a statement about loss and about trauma. Jake is losing himself by watching these videos on repeat, trying in vain to relive a happier time. In that desperate desire to regain what was lost he is distorting it, making it into something it isn’t, hurting it. At the beginning the father says, “Never ever press the rewind button, otherwise you might record over a precious memory. We always keep the recording going forward . . .“ I think there is an additional, and more personal for BDG, reading however. The father is the modern character of BDG, and we, the audience, are Jake. He is pleading with us to leave the past behind and move on. This was only his 3rd video that he posted after leaving Polygon. It is a plea from him to leave the old character behind and stop trying to make one into the other. To stop obsessively comparing the new videos to the old. To let the future be the future and let the past be the past. He is telling us that his new work will not be like the old, that he has progressed past that and that now his viewers need to as well. The detachment and confusion of Earn $20K EVERY MONTH by being your own boss has transformed into a desire to move forward. But he needed to ensure that his audience was ready to come with him, and so he made a video about loss and the dangers of sinking too far into it. I know that there are some of you that feel I am reading too much of what I assume to be BDG’s thoughts and emotions into these interpretations, and I am the first to admit that I might be. In no way am I trying to say these are the only interpretations of these videos or even that they are correct. I think there is so much more of an artist that they put into their work than they realise. I do not know the mind of BDG, only he does, but these videos made me feel that I had a glimpse into the feelings of a man whose work I admire. These videos are either longer or a drastically different tone to the material he has put on his own channel and as such they stood out to me. They felt different, and they seemed to ask for a different level of scrutiny. On some level maybe BDGs videos can not be divorced from the story of BDG as a content creator, the same as any modern internet semi-celebrity, or indeed any artist. I guess there was also a part of me that wanted to answer the call to action I heard when BDG left Polygon, to unravel his work. I hope in some small way I’ve been able to do that.

Me 🇵🇭: I got a say, he's having a great idea on his 25th birthday! Families treated him to the delicious pancakes of Denny's, and the next was going to the arcade & he saw an arcade of Wangan Maxi Tune 3DX+, the wangan midnight racing arcade that I started in 2010.
Spot 🐶🏎️: The racing arcade that you made us, right?
Me 🇵🇭: Ummm... More like gifted from my former friend. But, the name of the tuning card that I reborn you two as an Original Characters. So, I guess that counts.
Riya 🏎️🐰: Yeah, his second tuning card was used to be POCO- with the Subaru Impreza GRB car before he changed to my name, and then I gave up my GRB car to him because he bought me another Impreza car in the 5DX+ installment, this time it's the GDB-F pig nose model.
Me 🇵🇭: Mhm, memories. I'll be planning to play Wangan Maxi this August because I haven't transfer my data since 2019. Now, as for his gifts, they're awesome. I wish I could have those for my next 30th birthday, including his brand new Huion Kamvas Pen Display, which is pretty cool!
Spot 🐶🏎️: Damn! Hope he can draw more w/ his new Huion Pen Display!
Riya 🏎️🐰: And did we mention that he has Forza Horizon 5 in his bday gifts? Dude! I can't wait to see him playing on his Xbox one console!
Spot 🐶🏎️: Heck yeah! I want a see two custom Imprezas based on our personality!
Riya 🏎️🐰: That would be awesome!

2019’s Top Rides: Part 3/Buick Regal GS, Subaru Ascent and Golf R
By Michael Hozjan
Buick Regal GS AWD: Buick gets it right
Tumblr media
At 12, I wanted to be a car designer. Fate however had different plans for me. With an eye for automotive design, I grew up loving Buicks; from the ’57 Special to the ’59 Invicta, with the ’64 Wildcat stealing my heart time and again. Cadillacs took a close second, Fords were ok but I found Chevs too feminine. Buicks, were masculine with broad shouldered front fenders and creased lines, personifying the designing cues of GM greats, Harley Earl and Bill Mitchell.
Then came the Riviera. One snowy December afternoon as I headed to my post office, there on St. Lawrence Boulevard, with six inches of snow on the ground sat a ’65 Riviera. My heart skipped several beats and I must have studied its lines for what seemed like an eternity.
Well into the ‘70s there were some noteworthy designs that came out of Buick’s design studios however, the last four decades have been anything but exciting. That has all changed with the launch of the Regal GS – the sexiest Buick to come out of Detroit in, well the last four decades.
The Grand Sport designation is nothing new to the Buick line up, having been associated with ‘70s era muscle cars but this is the first time that it has been used in a European sports sedan context. The stylish GS goes up against some well established rivals like the Acura TLX, Lexus ES, BMW 3 series and the like, a tough field to say the least. The Regal GS is more than just good looks, it’s a bona fide sports sedan. In fact a rebadged, German built, Opel Insignia, so the GS starts with the right genes. European engineered handling makes it the best tarmac gripping Buick ever.
Tumblr media
Red Brembo brake calipers immediately tell everyone that this is not your typical Buick.
While different drive options/trim levels are available elsewhere around the globe, we Canucks get only one trim/drive option- also the most desirable one - the all-wheel-drive version motivated by the 310 horsepower DOHC, 3.6L V6 with variable valve timing punching out 282 lb-ft of torque through a 9-speed automatic.
Tumblr media
Entry price is $44,045, my tester came with the Buick Experience Package ($3,495) that included the moonroof, a Bose premium 8-speaker sound system, wireless charging, an 8” touch screen, HD radio, LED leveling headlights, The Driver Confidence Package (yes you read that right) at $1,995 includes adaptive cruise, forward collision alert with automatic braking, lane keep assist, front pedestrian braking and heads up display. The Ebony Twilight Metallic paint was a premium option at $495.
Tumblr media
The all-wheel-drive gets a torque vectoring rear axle, which only improves traction in slippery conditions and makes the Buick eat up the corners. Buick has also given us three driving modes to choose from, Touring, Sport and GS
Inside you’ve got one color choice, black. The supportive Recaros have a massage feature as well as being heated/cooled. Both driver’s and passenger seats have 14 adjustments to suit your body, including adjustable bolsters. Following with the German sport sedan traits, it includes a flat-bottomed steering wheel.
Tumblr media
Rear seat passengers get ample legroom, but headroom is tight for taller occupants. With 30.cu.ft of space under the hatch with the rear seats up, with over 60 cu.ft with the rear seats folded, it betters many compact crossovers!
Is it perfect?
Non-functional air intakes in the front valance are mickey-mouse and a step backwards. Why not leave them open and help cool the brakes? No spare tire but a useless tire fix kit –that’ll help when you have a blow out or bend a wheel on Quebec’s pot holes. On the comical side, the audio system had mixed up the Cirius station numbers it’s 60s on 6 and not 660s on six….and the same could be said for 50s on 5 not 550s on 5, as well as 70s, 80s and 90s.
You can go through the gears manually with the console mounted shifter but paddle shifters would have been a nice touch to compliment the smooth 9-speed automatic.
Tumblr media
Will the GS steal buyers away from BMW? I hardly doubt it but it does give of us a formidable option to keep our performance dollars with domestic manufacturers, and the GS buyer has nothing to be apologetic for.

Subaru Ascent: If at first you don’t succeed…
Tumblr media
If you thought that Subaru already had a large SUV you’re right. The magic word here being had. The B9 Tribeca, later shortened to just Tribeca debuted in 2005 to, lets just say a less than stellar sales, and by 2014 had moved into the automotive history books of what once was.
It takes guts to admit that you were wrong, and it takes even big cojones to come back with a similar sized vehicle. Truth be told the SUV market has also changed over the last decade with SUVs growing increasingly larger, just like the population. Subaru appears to have been ahead of its time back in 2005 when 3-row SUV’s didn’t proliferate our roads, and minivans still reigned supreme for getting the platoon to school. But times have changed and so the new Ascent is the company’s answer to the latest trend.
Tumblr media
The Ascent is also Subaru’s largest vehicle to date, with 142 mm longer wheelbase and 134 mm longer in length than the Tribeca, so yes passenger comfort has been greatly increased. The midsize SUV is built on the company’s Global Platform, a chassis that is easily adaptable; serving as the basis for everything from their Impreza and Crosstrek to the Ascent.
Tumblr media
Available in four trim levels – Convenience, Touring, Limited and Premier - with the entry level 8-passenger Convenience starting at a meager $36,695. Regardless of trim, there’s a new 2.4L direct-injected, turbocharged boxer four cylinder dolling out 260 horses and 277 lb-ft of torque through the High-torque Lineartronic CVT (continuously variable transmission).
Tumblr media
Talk to anyone who’s ever driven a Subie in less than ideal conditions and they’ll swear by the symmetrical full-time all-wheel-drive system. A new feature, X-Mode, pushes the traction envelope even further; at the push of a button, it monitors and controls four different vehicle dynamics, including engine, transmission, torque splitting and braking.
Tumblr media
There’s a lot of standard driver-assistance technology in each Ascent without having to step up to trim levels, Items like automated emergency braking and lane-keeping assist through the company’s EyeSight system. The base model gets a 6.5 inch infotainment screen while upper trim buyers will see an 8 inch screen. GPS however is only available in the two higher end trims (Limited and Premier). Both Touring and Limited are available in either seven or eight passenger configurations with captain’s chairs taking up the second row. My tester, the Premier trim comes only with the second row captains chairs. While all trims get heated front buckets it’s only the two higher trims that pamper their second row passengers with heated outboard seats. The third row looks a lot more inviting than some of it’s competitors but it’s still on the tight side with limited leg room. Still bear in mind this is a mid-size seven passenger and the seats are padded and comfortable to keep the small fry happy for longer drives. Oh and a pair of third-row USB charging ports become available in the Limited trim and are in addition to the standard two you’ll find in the front and second rows.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rear cover blind and tow loop are stowed neatly under the cargo bay’s floor, the latter an option on some pricier suvs
.
Whether you’re out in the boonies or negotiating city streets, the Ascent doesn’t feel like a large bulky SUV. With above average handling and a minimum of body roll for a three-row SUV, Subaru’s use of the boxer engine and its advantageous low center of gravity immediately become apparent. It’s stable, with a soft luxurious ride and is generally quiet during normal highway cruising. But it does get loud when pushed hard.
Tumblr media
Is it perfect?
The drone of the CVT does get annoying but once you get passed that, the Ascent is typically Subaru; it does everything what it’s supposed to and does it well. I averaged 9.8L/100 km which is unprecedented in a 7-passenger sport ute. It may not be overly luxurious but you get what you pay for. I know my Subaru driving friends will all be looking at the Ascent when the time comes to turn in their current drives, and that alone will keep this big Subaru around for a long time to come.
Price as tested: $52,795*

Volkswagen Golf R: You’ll want one
If you’ve missed my installment of the Rabbit GTI, I urge you to scroll down the page and have a read.
Tumblr media
Now take the GTI and turn it up a notch, or three. The formula for the Golf R is very simple; take one German built spacious hatchback that already has solid, tight handling, and add gobbs of turbocharged horses to a 2.0L inline four cylinder. How many ponies? Two eighty-eight to be exact – enough to propel you well past the posted speed limit in less time than it takes you to say posted speed limit. Now stir in all-wheel drive to put all that power to the ground. Slam it to the ground for added handling. Dress it up with killer 19” wheels.
Tumblr media
Choose between the 6-speed manual available for $42,495 or the 7-speed dual clutch automatic with Tiptronic for $43,895. Now go have the most fun you can with your clothes on.
Tumblr media
Doesn’t look like it but there’s nearly 300 horses in there
Tumblr media
Quad exhaust tips tell you this is no ordinary Golf
The Golf R is everything you want in a performance sedan and then some. It makes no sense in a country with posted speed limits, but then neither do Porches, Ferraris and the like.
Price as tested: $49, 290*
*Includes destination charges and a/c excise tax

Volkswagen unveils its most powerful Golf yet
New Post has been published on https://appradab.com/volkswagen-unveils-its-most-powerful-golf-yet/
Volkswagen unveils its most powerful Golf yet
Volkswagen said it won’t be selling the base version of its newly redesigned Golf compact car in the United States, but it will sell this new, more powerful Golf R, which has a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 27 more horsepower than the previous Golf R model. It also sells the 228-horsepower Golf GTI here.
That’s because, while most Americans prefer crossover SUVs — and VW has several of those to offer — there’s still a market here for small cars with outsized performance.
The new Golf R will be available in the US during the second half of 2021. VW hasn’t announced pricing yet, but prices for the 2019 Golf R started at over $40,000.
The Golf R will compete against models like the Subaru WRX STI, a version of the Subaru Impreza, and the Honda Civic Type R, both extreme performance versions of other efficient small cars.
The Golf R has an improved torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system that can automatically send more power to one or the other rear wheel depending on the traction needs from moment to moment. It also shifts power automatically from the front wheels to the rear as needed. The car’s top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph.
The driver can select from different driving modes that change settings for the car’s steering, suspension, four-wheel-drive system and gas pedal response. Besides Comfort, Sport and Track modes, there is also a Special mode with settings designed for Germany’s famous Nürburgring Nordschleife track. Among other things, the suspension is softer than in Track mode to better handle the Nordschleife’s undulating pavement.
There is also a Drift mode — which is not intended for use on public roads — to allow drivers to more easily slide the car sideways and do smokey, tire-burning donuts.
The Golf R will be available with either a seven-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual. The manual transmission was an important feature for the US market, which has been the number one market for the Golf R worldwide. In the past, 40% of Golf R buyers in the US have chosen the manual transmission, according to a VW spokesman. The automatic transmission will be manually shiftable, with steering wheel paddles.

2020 Subaru Impreza to still start at $20k despite added features The 2020 Subaru Impreza will cost the same in Canada as last year, despite the fact it will arrive with much more value than previously offered. The base price remains $19,995 (or $20,995 for the hatchback) but theres a lot more standard features than on the 2019. Obviously you get all-wheel-drive standard, a long-standing feature of all Subaru models that make them the most affordable AWDs on the market.Subarus EyeSight driver-assist system is now standard on all Impreza models when equipped with the CVT gearbox; CVT models also gain a driver-selectable SI-Drive engine management system with either Sport or Intelligent mode. On top of that, theyll see standard adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking and lane departure and sway warning, as well as lane-keep assist. As for tech, a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto now comes included on all Imprezas, as does cruise control, air conditioning, automatic door lock/unlock, power windows, 60/40-split fold-down rear seats and power side mirrors. Standard on most models is Subaru Starlink Connected Services, which uses the nationwide 4G LTE cellular network to enable Advanced Automatic Collision Notification in the event of a collision, SOS Emergency Assistance, Enhanced Roadside Assistance and Concierge Service. The looks have also changed slightly, with a revised front fascia and 16-inch alloy wheels on Touring trims. Subaru WRX STI S209 Suspension Details: EVERYTHING You Want to Know
Interested in the new U.S.-bound 2019 Subaru WRX STI S209? Get everything you want to know about that 341-hp sport sedan’s suspension right here.
To eliminate the slack that exists in any mechanism like a suspension consisting of multiple components connected by moving joints, STI “pre-loads” many of these points. They do this using tension-spring-loaded braces and drawbars. These springs allow movement during harsh impacts to preserve comfort. Below is an accounting of where those parts go, along with some additional nitty gritty details on the rest of the extensive STI tuning—much of which is credited with shaving a minute off the Impreza’s Nürburgring time over several years with no change in engine power.
The following revisions contribute about 20 of the roughly 90 pounds the S209 gains over the Type RA, with which the S209 shares a carbon-fiber roof that weighs 8 pounds less than the WRX STI’s steel panel and improves the S209’s torsional rigidity.
The front strut tower brace includes a spherical/spring loaded joint in the center.
Additional drawbars create diagonal tension between the front suspension crossmember and the body structure (they’ve been used on the Nürburgring race car and S-models for several years).
New for the S209 is a similar bar that tensions the rear suspension and anti-roll-bar mounting areas.
The front suspension mounting points are further reinforced with three short, rigid support arms that carry over from the S208.
The rear suspension gets a new rigid cross-car brace to reinforce the rear subframe.
Many of the suspension links—particularly those related to lateral cornering forces—utilize spherical joints instead of rubber bushings to further reduce both “slop” and friction. This friction reduction is credited for improving tire contact with the ground by 20 percent.
The rear anti-roll bar diameter grows by a millimeter to 20 mm

REVIEW SUBARU IMPREZA 5-DOOR 2019 SIMPLE AND EFFECTIVE
Excellent value for a car with AWD A modest creature, the Subaru Impreza is one of those models that are rooted in the history of motorsport and benefit from the brand's fame. If the Subaru's sales are breaking today, it is not only because it focuses on energetic efficiency, safety and performance in all seasons, but also because this sedan has very little direct competitors. For the price, it is really difficult if not impossible to find an AWD car on the market that rivals the Impreza. You can also check out our list of the 10 most affordable all-wheel-drive vehicles in Canada , and see where the little Subaru is! For 2019 the Impreza is available in four iterations: Impreza Convenience, Impreza Tourism, Impreza Sport and Impreza Sport-Tech; equipped with the EyeSight set.

Design and comfort of quality even for small budgets It is true that the design of the Impreza has changed considerably since the first generations. Today, Subaru calls its 2019 model "daring". We go there maybe a small fort for this car that is not so radical as that, but still fits in the elegance. This new sedan comes with 18-inch wheels for the Sport-Tech version, while the Convenience and Tourism versions are fitted with 16-inch wheels, and the 17-inch wheels sport. It has an electric sunroof for a more dynamic side. A bright color has appeared for the New Year, The Island Blue Pearl bringing a small additional stamp to the Impreza. The Sport-Tech grind, for its part, is available in pearly lithium red.

REVIEW SUBARU IMPREZA 5-DOOR 2019 SIMPLE AND EFFECTIVE
The ivory leather interior (available on all models except Convenience) adds a luxurious touch to the vehicle, but it can also be decorated in black or beige fabric. Moreover, impossible to deny the quality of finish of the interior elements for the Impreza. It is true that the superposition of the screens makes the space between the front seats a bit loaded, but I personally like this horizontal screen at the top which gives me access to all the data that I want to consult periodically, without that I have to dig through the larger screen menu. In addition small details like the seams on the seats make the model simply beautiful. In the Sport-Tech version, the indicators on the board in front of the driver are displayed in red inflamed - a nice little touch if you accept its slightly kitsch side. The seats are comfortable and adapt well to different drivers. Surprisingly, after seeing the car from the outside - it looks tiny when compared to other members of the range, even the Legacy - the cabin is still spacious, the rear seats providing adequate space to passengers and the same trunk for luggage, golf and hockey bags and others. In particular, it is possible to fold the rear seats flat to obtain more space. The good quality materials are certainly good overall, except that there are some clues that reveal the compromises that Subaru engineers had to make in order to keep the 2019 Impreza in the desired price range. For example, the fine carpet seems to be a little cheap; we would have preferred to see it in the trunk rather than under the passengers' feet.

REVIEW SUBARU IMPREZA 5-DOOR 2019 SIMPLE AND EFFECTIVE
The EyeSight option, an excellent choice The simplicity of the Impreza controls is significant with its large buttons and 8.0-inch touchscreen offering simple and convenient navigation. Note however that the Tourism and Convenience versions only offer a 6.5 inch screen. The integrated GPS offers real-time traffic updates. For the 2019 model, Subaru has introduced an enhanced infotainment interface as well as Apple Carplay and Android Auto on absolutely the entire lineup. There is also a sound system harmon / kardon eight speakers that can be described as high-end. The EyeSight option includes a set of electronic security features. The system is smart and this option has been proven to help reduce the risk of accidents. It should be noted that NHTSA has given its best Safety rating of Top Safety Pick + to the Impreza for 2019. The EyeSight option includes a rear view camera, an adaptive cruise control system, and more. assistance in maintaining the track and automatic braking in case of emergency and in reverse. This option also offers a smart key with push button start. I can still say that the Impreza has a number of features that would be found on more expensive vehicles and the option EyeSight remains an excellent choice, really useful.
Engine Side The Sport-Tech version of the 2019 Impreza features a 2-liter, 4-cylinder direct injection engine producing 152 hp. Unusually, the Impreza is available with a 5-speed manual transmission for the first three models, as well as a 7-speed continuously variable transmission for the Sport-Tech version. The vehicle has 145 lb.-ft. of torque at 4000 rpm and its consumption officially stands at 9.0 l / 100 km, which still attracts as a figure. That said, I could do no better than 11.6 l / 100 km. but it remains that for consumers who really want to avoid unnecessary spending on gasoline, this Subaru may not be the perfect choice. It's fine all-wheel drive, but it must then accept a higher consumption ... The engine is still a bit buzzing and it should not be denied that the addition of larger wheels and sports suspension in this version reduce driving comfort, however the Impreza manages to partially avoid this hardness. However, I was still expecting an experience a little more wriggling for a high-end Impreza. The acceleration is quite ordinary, which is not surprising considering the low available torque of the powertrain. At the management level, however, nothing to say: the steering wheel reacted with lightness and dexterity. Also at the suspension level, the system is well adapted to the challenges posed by  roads, especially in winter. Note that the new Impreza has a more rigid chassis than before, and it shows. The car approaches the curves very well and produces in these bodies a sporting performance. Price and Competition As mentioned, the Impreza has few direct rivals in its price range. We are talking here about a small saloon well adapted to the urban space, but which is generous in terms of the interior space, the AWD is excellent and a system like this will cost you more expensive elsewhere. The Volkswagen Jetta offers a slightly more entertaining driving experience with an added touch of dynamism, it's true. On the other hand, the Impreza has a better power as well as this system of integral traction, unbeatable. Prices start at $ 19,995 with the 4-door Convenience model and up to $ 31,095 for the Sport-Tech 5-door model including EyeSight. There is no doubt, the 2019 version of the Impreza is a model much more worked than the car that we knew there are ten years. And yet it is the older models that seduce the most with a feeling of driving perhaps more memorable than that which can be had in 2019. Its lack of power in low end is what could put off some buyers, however those looking for all-wheel drive at a reasonable price will find their happiness here. Most - The excellent EyeSight package and equipment list  - Spacious interior  - Comfortable seats  - Good cargo space, with easy access thanks to the tailgate  - An agile and skillful cornering  - Complete traciton at an unbeatable price  - One confident exterior design, without flash The lessers - An almost ordinary driving experience largely due to an anemic engine  - Accelerations lack energy  - The comfort level is a little affected by the sport suspension system -SIMILAR ITEMS:

Why You Should Drive a Subaru on the Sunshine Coast
Subaru just continues to smash sales records in Australia. Ever since importation began in 1973, drivers of all ages have loved this reliable and versatile vehicle.
The secret to its continuing success appears to be the marque’s willingness to adapt to demand. It’s a bit of a chameleon really; when Australians wanted tough affordable cars in the 1970s, Subaru delivered. When competitively priced family vehicles became popular in the late 1980s, the company launched the Liberty.
Subaru Sunshine Coast
For sporty Australians, Subaru came up with the Outback, whilst the WRX outdid itself on the rally circuit. It seems whatever you desire in a vehicle, Subaru can and will deliver.
If you choose to drive Subaru on the Sunshine Coast, you’re in good company. Not only are they popular but it’s also possible to buy very good used models at low prices. But whether you drive old or new, when it comes time for a Subaru car service, you should be taking it to the professionals.
It’s not that the Subaru is particularly hard to maintain, compared to many other marques, but you still want the job done right at the best price. If you’ve bought a new Subaru, you certainly don’t need to return it to the dealer for log book servicing.

Subaru Car Service
You’re likely to get a more competitively priced service by choosing a local Subaru specialist. With fewer overheads they are more likely to pass on their savings to you, the customer.
If you’re thinking of changing to Subaru in 2019, its worth road testing the all-new Forester. Whilst it’s very similar in looks to the old model, the technology is upgraded and impressive. There’s also a new Impreza on the way, as well as a new S version of the WRX (due to be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in January).

Safety first, last, and always: The Subaru Ascent, reviewed

Subaru customers are well-known for their love of the brand, ranking at or near the top of vehicle manufacturers when it comes to loyalty. But what happens when long-time Subaru drivers outgrow their Outbacks and Foresters? Until this year, they would've needed to jump ship, as Subaru has largely been absent from the world of three-row SUVs. That has changed with the 2019 model year, with the debut of the Subaru Ascent, a three-row SUV that can carry seven or eight passengers.
At 197in (5,003mm) long and 76in (1,930mm) wide, the Ascent is the largest car in Subaru's lineup. And if there's a record for cupholders, Subaru probably owns it now, with 19 sprinkled throughout the car. At first glance, though, the Ascent doesn't necessarily look like it belongs in the Subaru lineup. The Japanese carmaker's station wagons, crossovers, and SUVs have a familiar shape and style. The Ascent, on the other hand, looks more like a generic SUV with a higher hood line than its Subaru siblings. There's the familiar black Subaru grille, trimmed in chrome, with the unmistakeable badge front and center. And the raised roof rails are standard. Aside from those details, however, the Ascent doesn't scream "Subaru" at the same volume as an Outback or Crosstrek.
Built on the same new Subaru Global Platform used in the Crosstrek and Impreza, the Ascent is geared toward comfort and a quiet ride. For the chassis, that means highly stiffened joints between structures and optimized cross sections for better stability, comfort, and agility (to the degree that a seven-passenger SUV can be agile). Subaru is also using acoustic front-door glass and windshield to try and keep road noise to a minimum (more on that below).

Will the next-gen Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ use a Toyota platform? 2019 Subaru BRZ RaiuHandout / Subaru As vehicular twins, the Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 are no Olsen sisters, but they’re also no Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger, either. The two coupes have their similarities and they have their differences. At the core of their shared genetics is the platform. Current versions are built upon a modified Impreza platform, but that may be about to change. According to Australian site CarSales, the next-gen 86 and BRZ will ditch their current base and swap in Toyota’s newer TNGA underpinnings. The rumour comes from an anonymous source at Subaru who says that, in order to retain both vehicles’ original rear-wheel-drive layout, the brands will be steering away from the Subaru Global Platform that’s being used for Subaru’s new AWD vehicles and toward the rear-wheel-drive- friendly TNGA option that already supports vehicles like the Highlander, Prius and Camry over in Toyota land. That or they’ll continue to work with what they’ve already got. It's a very flexible platform, but we make all-wheel-drive vehicles, said the source with regards to the new platform. That's our forte, all-wheel drive. Subaru’s forte may be AWD, but the BRZ and 86 are all about that rear-wheel-drive — gloriously so, at that. And seeing as the TNGA option would likely be the most affordable and the lightest option, our money is on that.
