The 2020 Mazda CX-5 is second on the list of safest compact SUVs of 2020. It now has adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and blind-spot monitoring standard for 2020. However, the automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection don’t work at speeds higher than 50 mph.
All trims of the CX-5 except the base one come standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, allowing for hands-free phone use and reducing driver distractions. The 2020 CX-5 is also an IIHS 2020 Top Safety Pick+ and received five out of five from the NHTSA.
2020 Mazda CX-3
On Carfax’s list of the 17 safest subcompact SUVs for 2020, the 2020 Mazda CX-3 came in first. The 2020 CX-3 comes standard with the Mazda i-Activesense suite of driver-assist features. That includes adaptive cruise control with stop and go, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, pedestrian detection, and a head-up display.

2021 Hyundai Kona
Coming in second on the list of safest subcompact SUVs is the 2021 Hyundai Kona. The 2021 Kona comes standard with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and a driver attention warning system. All trims except the lowest one also come with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Skipping up to the top Ultimate trim adds adaptive cruise control and pedestrian detection.

Mitsubishi Pajero 2020 Review
There are no assurances the Mitsubishi Pajero 2020 is the very last one we’ll see, but further updates for Mitsubishi’s long-runner are off the cards.
With a lineage that stretches back to the first-generation Pajero, revealed at the 1981 Tokyo motor show and sold in Aus’ from 1983, and four generations over the years that followed, the Pajero has earned icon status.
In fact, the current generation alone is something of an icon in itself, arriving in 2006 and given its current styling revisions in 2014. It’s no spring chicken, then, but the best off-road legends tend to have long unbroken runs – think first-gen Mercedes Benz G-Class (40 years and counting) and Land Rover Defender (at 33 years).
For the 2020 model year, Mitsubishi has made a few changes. Most significantly, the previous range-topping Exceed variant has been dropped, leaving a two-model range that starts with the Pajero GLX from $49,990 drive-away, and tops out with the GLS The powertrain is unchanged, meaning the long-running 3.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine continues with 141kW at 3800rpm and 441Nm at 2000rpm. Only one transmission is available, a five-speed automatic, sending power to Mitsubishi’s Super Select II four-wheel-drive system.
Official figures suggest mixed-cycle fuel consumption of 9.1 litres per 100km.
Underpinning the Pajero is an ‘integral frame’ monocoque chassis – not typical of most hardcore 4x4s that use a separate ladder frame, but able to blur the lines somewhat between passenger car comfort and off-road ruggedness. The result is a sizeable four-wheel-drive that, even given its age, is thoroughly pleasant to drive.
Acceleration is leisurely, but for a car with the Pajero’s capabilities that’s fine. There are also hints of diesel soundtrack depending on engine load and conditions, but overall the 3.2-litre engine is muted and smooth for its age.
The IVECS II (Innovative Vehicle Electronic Control System) transmission smarts aren’t at the cutting edge of control technology compared to the era in which the system debuted. Adaptive logic and the ability to ‘learn’ driver patterns mean Mitsubishi’s five-speed auto responds favourably to driver inputs without hunting for the right gear or swapping cogs unnecessarily.
For drivers who would rather mete gear changes themselves, a floor-mounted manual mode allows gears to be held as required, which is handy in some off-road situations or when towing.
On the subject of towing, which is a primary purchaser consideration, the Pajero claims a maximum 3000kg tow rating. It pays to keep in mind, however, that up to 2500kg the Pajero carries a 250kg ball limit, at 3000kg the ball limit drops to 180kg – limiting flexibility somewhat.
Unlike most recreational 4x4s such as the Toyota Prado, Isuzu MU-X and even the slightly smaller Pajero Sport, the Pajero runs on fully independent suspension. That helps give it a more settled and stable feel over smaller blemishes in the road surface, more in line with 4x4s like the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Land Rover Discovery.
While the Pajero legacy (in more recent times, at least) is forged on its simplicity and dependability, those same provisions cost it points on presentation.
On the inside, the fourth-gen Pajero looks every bit its age. The dash design – one massive tombstone of black plastic – makes no attempts to position itself as a premium product. It’ll survive spills, scuffs, moisture, dust and dirt no worries, but won’t be mistaken for a luxury product.
The newest part of the Pajero’s interior is its 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system loaded with features like DAB+ radio and smartphone mirroring for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, but lacking in-built sat-nav or a CD player, which seem like oversights given its propensity for remote getaways.
The driver faces analogue instruments with no digital displays. The darkly shrouded two-dial gauge cluster can be hard to clock at a glance.
Ahead of the driver, there’s no trip computer info or digital speedo readout; however, an LCD display in the centre stack offers some additional info, like barometric pressure, fuel monitoring, time and temp.
Ergonomics aren’t always on point, like the (admittedly minor control) switches hidden from view on the lower dash to the left of the steering column, plus limited seat adjustment (powered upfront) and lack of steering wheel reach adjustment mean the Pajero may not be an ideal fit for all drivers.
Despite generous external proportions, the interior may be less spacious than expected. There are no issues upfront, but adult passengers in the second row will find the seat base undersized with a lack of under-thigh support, though there is an adjustable backrest.
Getting into the third row is relatively simple, but once there, the tiny dimensions rule the rearmost seats out for all but the most compact passengers. A small, low seat, lack of toe and knee room, and no ability to slide the middle row forward force an awkward side-skewed seating position.
Comfort and convenience are covered by features like single-zone climate control, rear booster controls and overhead ventilation to all three rows, power windows with auto up and down for the driver, cloth and ‘synthetic leather’ seating surfaces, Bluetooth connectivity, heated front seats, auto lights and wipers, self-dimming interior mirror, HID headlights, and remote central locking with key start.
Items that have gone missing with the removal of the higher-spec Exceed model include a sunroof, leather trim, and sports pedals – but the GLS also gains Rockford 12-speaker audio, an alarm and auto high beam, while also coming in at more than R160K under the old range-topper, which seems an agreeable compromise.
With all three rows of seats in use, there’s barely enough space left to handle a couple of grocery bags. The final row of seats can be stowed flat in the boot floor, which is a fiddly multi-stage process.
Behind the second row, Mitsubishi claims a whopping 1069L to the top of the seats, meaning plenty of useful acreages to pack your luggage into, along with plenty of bag hooks and an included cargo blind. Drop the second row and there’s 1789L, with a load length of just over 1.4m.
On the safety front, Mitsubishi provides six airbags, ABS brakes, traction and stability control, plus three top tether and two ISOFIX child seat mounts for the middle row (positioned inboard and ruling out the use of the centre seat).
Against more modern competitors, the Pajero misses out on technologies that are fast becoming commonplace on much cheaper vehicles. Features like adaptive cruise control, attention monitoring, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring and the autonomous emergency braking are nowhere to be found.
Mitsubishi touts a five-star ANCAP rating, but the assessment is dated from 2011, meaning the data is now considered out of date with the lack of crash-avoidance technology making the Pajero ineligible for a five-star finish under current criteria.
For buyers seeking simplicity, the Pajero’s more basic range of features appeals to staunch traditionalists, but as a flagship vehicle, it leaves much to be desired. Particularly amongst peers like the Ford Everest and Toyota Prado, which carry more safety and luxury tech, but also wear more expensive price tags.
Similarly, the way the Pajero GLS comports itself on the road feels much more like past generations of 4x4s and not the newest or most advanced. The engine can’t be rushed, and would rather dig into its torque reserves than fly through its rev range.
There’s around 2300kg of kerb weight to shift, so the Pajero is no traffic light Grand Prix racer. It needs a moment to really get rolling, but between 1500 and 2500rpm it feels almost unstoppable.
Steering is on the heavy side at low speeds, with an 11.4m turning circle making for a somewhat cumbersome feel in tight quarters, but head onto the open road and it is much more stable and secure as a result.
Ride quality also favours the open road. It’s absorbent enough to soak up jagged rural road surfaces and doesn’t jar or shock occupants.
You can also point it away from made surfaces, with the Super Select II 4x4 system accommodating on- and off-road use with shift-on-the-go ease. To keep fuel use trim in town there's two-wheel drive, and should conditions turn damp there's on-road four-wheel drive for added traction. Head into the rough stuff and 4HLC mode locks the centre diff, while 4LLC adds low-range gearing into the mix for heavy-duty work.
In factory form, there’s 225mm of ground clearance and up to 700mm wading depth should things start to get hairy. While the lack of rigid axles won’t work for rock-hopping traditionalists, the four-wheel independent set-up holds its own on moderate off-road terrain, as does the standard rear diff lock.
As a touring vehicle, travelling noise is low, engine and road intrusion are well managed, though wind noise can factor in depending on the conditions. The block-shaped Pajero isn’t necessarily the most aerodynamically efficient.
Now that the newer Pajero Sport has established itself, it's clear that buyers after a better-equipped, plusher, or more high-tech four-wheel-drive have an option. Be that as it may, there’s still a clear audience for, and plenty to like about, the Pajero.
Its amount of time on the ground imparts the perception of having proven itself (recent recall notwithstanding), and certainly, on the used market, there’s no shortage of examples of the current fourth-gen model with well beyond 300,000km on the clock.
Owners are covered by a five-year/100,000km warranty and capped-price servicing for the first three years or 45,000km set at $479 per visit, occurring at 12-month or 15,000km intervals (whichever comes first) inclusive of all fluids and filters described in the regular service schedule.
Because of their dedicated ‘heavy-duty’ focus, cars like the LandCruiser, Patrol, Prado and Pajero are unlikely to ever be part driving, easy to park, economy champions. For their target market that’s absolutely ideal, too.
While the sophistication and complexity of rivals continue to expand, the Pajero sticks to the ‘keep it simple’ mantra favoured by regional and remote buyers and carving out its own niche in the process.
No model can run forever, though, and with production scaling down for overseas markets. Mitsubishi tells us Pajero production will soldier on for a few more years but won't yet commit to an end date.
The Pajero’s future gets even murkier now that Mitsubishi operates under the control of Nissan. While past concepts have pointed to a next-generation Pajero, the need to scale down development costs has put plans on hold while Nissan and Mitsubishi clarify the direction for Pajero and Patrol replacements.
With sharpened pricing over the years (including the ongoing current offer) and a hard-won reputation, the Pajero makes sense as a sturdy rig for touring South Africa from corner to corner reliably and comfortably.
If you’re not swayed by bells and whistles, the Pajero could be just the thing. It won’t stick around forever, though, nor will it have you bristling with joy every time you get behind the wheel, but it will handle anything you can throw at it and come back for more.

One Week With the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit
It’s been about 10 years since the current Jeep Grand Cherokee was launched, and though that’s ancient in automotive terms, Jeep has done much to keep its flagship Grand Cherokee current. Throughout the years, the midsize SUV has received plenty of upgrades; from new engines to new trims, the Grand Cherokee is taking good care of itself. Its lineup is so extensive that there’s pretty much a Grand Cherokee for everyone. From the wallet-friendly Laredo to the Hellcat-powered and performance-oriented Trackhawk, Jeep has the two-row midsize SUV game well covered. One of those newer trims is the Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit, which is positioned as the most upscale model of the lineup and offers luxurious materials and features to offer a better overall experience.
It makes sense. As transaction prices rise, brands look for ways to offer even more polished products, and the Grand Cherokee was already highly positioned within the Jeep brand. By offering 20-inch wheels, a unique grille and fascia, and nicer interior materials, the Grand Cherokee Summit distinguishes itself from other mainstream midsize SUVs. Add an optional V-8 and air suspension under its skin, and you suddenly have a really attractive and unique luxury SUV alternative.
We spent a week driving the top-trim Grand Cherokee and asked ourselves if the experience you get is really worth the extra dime.
2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit: Interior
Designers paid a close attention to the interior, where a sea of stitched leather covers most of the cabin. From the dashboard to the seats to the door panels, the Summit’s cabin feels a step above your average Grand Cherokee. Other upscale details include dark wood trim, which contrasts really elegantly with the light brown seats that our tester had. The combination of wood and leather on the steering wheel also raises the luxury experience for the driver.
Although the Grand Cherokee Summit leaves a nice first impression, more attention needs to be paid to the details. There’s still a large amount of hard plastics on the lower panels betraying the Grand Cherokee’s starting price, and the switchgear that looks and feels adequate for a mid-level Grand Cherokee falls short when you’re paying over $60,000 for it. The instrument cluster is also due for a redesign, as it’s entirely analog and falls short when comparing it to the full digital displays that in use in other modern luxury SUVs at the Summit’s price point.
Nevertheless, Jeep has done a great job keeping the cabin updated. The 8.4-inch screen for the Uconnect infotainment system works great; it’s fast, has modern graphics and it’s easy to use. The system is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and it works similar to a smartphone. Some of the controls, like those for the heated and ventilated seats, are found on the screen, but there’s no digging for menus here—everything is well labeled and simple to operate. The 19-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system ups the experience inside the Summit; it doesn’t matter if you’re streaming a song through your smartphone, using satellite radio, or playing a USB file.
The Grand Cherokee Summit not only delights front-seat occupants; it pleases those in the rear. The second row has heated seats, two USB ports, and an optional entertainment system with two screens located on the front seatbacks. The system adds $1,995 to the price of the Summit and includes a DVD player. The downside is that the player is located in the center console, and it pretty much consumes all the space there. Those entertainment systems are still useful but are almost obsolete now, as tablets and smartphones can provide more content and games for kids at a fraction of the cost.
2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit: The Drive
Our Grand Cherokee Summit was equipped with the optional 5.7-liter V-8 engine, which sends 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. A Quadra-Trac four-wheel-drive system comes standard in the Summit, which will keep the Grand Cherokee out of trouble in case it goes off the pavement. On the road, the V-8 is a true performer. The engine has abundant torque for climbing hills or merging onto the freeway and always feels peppy and responsive. The eight-speed transmission holds gears for as long as it has to and shifts smoothly when it needs to.
On winding roads, the air suspension keeps body roll to a minimum, and whether you drive over bumps or ruts, the vibrations in the cabin are well controlled. Even when driving on Southern California’s Palos Verdes Peninsula, which is known for rippled pavement caused by frequent land movements, the Grand Cherokee Summit kept its composure all the time. There’s no doubt Jeep has gotten its return on investment back with the Grand Cherokee. The SUV rides on older Mercedes-Benz M-Class-derived architecture, and this has proven to be a solid strategy, as it doesn’t drive like it’s a decade-old product. The changes that Jeep has made to the chassis over the years have helped keep the Grand Cherokee fresh.
Where we’d like to see more improvement is on the steering feel. Although its soft—like most owners would prefer it—there’s little feedback coming from it. The steering is precise, but we wish it gave the driver more feel for what’s happening on the road.
Having a Jeep means that you should definitely go off-roading at least once. Besides offering a reliable 4×4 system with a two-speed transfer case, the Summit comes with a Selec-Terrain system with five easy modes to choose from—Snow, Sand, Mud, Rock and Auto. With the air suspension and the four-wheel drive system, the Summit is able to go rock crawling or trail running and it will not hesitate to do so.
2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit: Should I buy it?
Priced at $62,775, our Summit felt closer to a luxury SUV than to a base Grand Cherokee. Jeep did a great job modifying things in the grand scheme to make its flagship SUV more premium for those who wanted something more exclusive in the Grand Cherokee lineup. Although there are ways where the interior can improve, drivers are getting a more premium experience in the Summit than in any other Grand Cherokee.
And despite being a decade old, the Grand Cherokee doesn’t feel antiquated. Its capability off the road continues to be great, and its handling and power delivery are top notch.
We know the next-generation Grand Cherokee is coming soon. How soon? Probably next year. In the meantime, the Jeep Grand Cherokee will most likely continue to be the best-selling two-row midsize SUV and please a big group of people, ranging from those who buy the wallet-friendly Laredo to those who prefer the ultimate experience that the Summit offers.

Grand Cherokee 2020: tem mais tecnologia por R$ 340 mil
O Grand Cherokee 2020 está prestes a chegar às lojas da Jeep, segundo anunciou a marca. A maior novidade no SUV são tecnologias de assistência à direção, inéditas no modelo. O preço sugerido é de R$ 359.990.

O conjunto é formado por recursos até então inéditos para o modelo no país. Casos do controle adaptativo de velocidade com parada total (ACC), assistente avançado de frenagem, aviso de colisão frontal com frenagem ativa (FCW+), alerta de mudança de faixa com assistente de correção (LaneSense), sistema semiautomático de estacionamento paralelo e perpendicular (Park Assist) e monitoramento de pontos cegos (BSM).

Outras novidades da Grand Cherokee 2020 são as rodas de liga leve de 20 polegadas com novo desenho e a opção de revestimento interno de couro bege, além do tradicional preto. Também foi reformulada a tela do sistema multimídia Uconnect. Com as mesmas 8,4 polegadas de antes, ela agora está ligeiramente mais próxima dos ocupantes, na mesma linha do painel.

Isso ajuda na ergonomia e deixa o visual mais limpo. Lembrando que a central é compatível com Android Auto, Apple CarPlay e tem navegador GPS próprio.

Outros equipamentos são apoios de cabeça dianteiros ativos, bancos dianteiros com ajustes elétricos, aquecimento e ventilação, banco traseiro com aquecimento, comutação automática de faróis (fachos alto/baixo), , faróis com nivelamento automático, quadro de instrumentos com tela configurável de TFT de 7”, sistema de entretenimento traseiro com duas telas rebatíveis de 9”, duas entradas HDMI e dois fones de ouvido sem fio, som com 9 alto-falantes e subwoofer.

A tampa do porta-malas tem acionamento elétrico, e o SUV também oferece teto solar panorâmico e volante com ajuste elétrico de altura e profundidade, entre outros.
O Grand Cherokee 2020 é oferecido em versão única no Brasil, a Limited Diesel, equipada com motor 3.0 V6 turbo, a diesel, que entrega 241 cavalos de potência e 56,1 kgfm de torque máximos. O câmbio é automático de oito marchas. O modelo também é equipado com tração integral Quadra-Trac II, com capacidade de subida (crawl ratio) de 44:1 com a reduzida acionada, podendo transferir 100% do torque para o eixo traseiro.

Hasta hace unos años, los coches no eran compatibles con nuestros teléfonos más allá de parcas conexiones mediante dispositivos manos libres de terceros a través de Bluetooth. Con el tiempo, llegaron soluciones como Android Auto o Apple CarPlay, con el objetivo de integrar nuestros móviles dentro del propio vehículo, con interfaces personalizadas que nos permiten controlar varios de sus apartados.
En concreto, Android Auto se encuentra disponible para más de 400 modelos de coches, por lo que procede comentar cuáles son dichos modelos compatibles, así como todo lo que conviene saber sobre Android Auto.
Qué es Android Auto
Android Auto es la solución de Google para integrar nuestro dispositivo Android con nuestro vehículo compatible. Lleva funcionando desde el año 2014, y cuenta con una interfaz bastante simple e intuitiva, que se combina con acciones de voz que minimizan el contacto físico del conductor con el propio panel del vehículo.
Esta solución nos proporciona información sobre las notificaciones que recibimos, permite utilizar Google Maps, reproducir nuestra música, y responder mensajes mediante nuestra voz. El principal objetivo es el de poder interactuar con nuestro teléfono sin necesidad de tocarlo, minimizando las distracciones al volante.
Android Auto puede utilizarse desde el propio teléfono mediante su aplicación, aunque para sacarle el máximo partido es recomendable conectarlo al vehículo
Para utilizar Android Auto es necesario un vehículo o dispositivo compatible (Alpine, Pioneer o Sony tienen radios compatibles), así como disponer de un dispositivo Android con la versión 5.0 Lollipop y superiores. Teniendo dicha compatibilidad en el vehículo, tan solo hace falta descargar la aplicación de Android Auto y empezar a utilizarlo.
A la hora de realizar la conexión, podemos hacerlo de forma inalámbrica o mediante un cable USB que conecte tu móvil al coche. Android Auto funciona tanto en la interfaz de nuestro móvil, así como adapt��ndose al panel de nuestro coche.

The GX 460 is the oldest product in Lexus‘ lineup, but it found its way back into the spotlight. With overlanding gaining popularity in recent years, the GX is enjoying newfound stardom thanks to its easy-to-modify architecture, legit four-wheel-drive chops and high-quality interior. There are lifted examples all over Car Twitter. Lexus’ ancient SUV is once again cool.

It seems like Lexus is finally leaning into the GX’s old-school nature, too. Last year, the company created the GXOR Concept as a nod to owners who, according to Lexus, “discovered and embraced the SUV’s perfect combination of ultimate luxury and unrivaled off-road capability.” And for 2020, there’s a new Off-Road Package which adds specific drive modes for different types of terrain, panoramic-view and under-the-car cameras, a transmission cooler, fuel tank protector and Crawl Control, which is like cruise control for super-slow off-road stuff. It’s a $1,570 option that’s only available on the top-tier Luxury trim, but if you’re planning to venture off the beaten path in your GX — and you really, really should — it’s a must-have.
Aside from that, the most obvious update for 2020 is, uh, that face. Lexus’ oversized spindle grille is almost blown out of proportion on the GX. It’s pretty bad, you guys. Thankfully, the rest of the SUV is pretty handsome, with its upright design and high-mounted taillights. My tester wears the $2,020 Sport Design Package, which adds dark-finish 19-inch wheels and some other gray body work, as well as second-row captain’s chairs, which don’t exactly convey “sporty,” but whatever, they’re nice.

Actually, the whole dang interior is nice, with soft leather surfaces and excellent fit and finish — the kind of stuff you expect in a Lexus. The red-and-black color scheme is a bit much for my tastes, and it doesn’t exactly scream “please throw all of your muddy camping gear in here,” but it adds some visual flair to the otherwise straightforward cabin design. It brings the GX’s cabin closer to modern times, too, especially with a redesigned three-spoke steering wheel, aluminum trim and a new backlit gauge cluster.
Headroom is ample for front and rear passengers alike, and there’s even a third row of seats, though they’re best left unused. The GX offers a maximum of 64.7 cubic feet of space, though it’s worth noting you access the way-back through a side-hinged tailgate, so take special note before backing into a garage or squeezing into a tight parallel parking space. Old SUVs, am I right?
Speaking of old, get a load of the GX’s multimedia tech. This outdated touchscreen infotainment system uses low-res graphics, it’s pretty slow to respond to inputs, kind of confusing to navigate and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are nowhere to be found (Amazon Alexa integration, on the other hand, is standard). But it’s not all terrible. In fact, the just-touch-what-you-want interface is far easier to use than any of Lexus’ more recent setups — you know, the stupid mouse-like joystick or, worse, the Remote Touch trackpad.
There’s at least an impressive roster of driver-assistance tech, with Lexus’ Safety System Plus suite fitted to every GX. This incorporates pre-collision braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high-beams and adaptive cruise control, though the latter system doesn’t cover a full range of speed, so don’t rely on it for stop-and-go situations.
Perhaps the most important driver-assistance technologies are the ones that help the GX off-road, since this is where this SUV can really strut its stuff. The Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) keeps the GX level and steady both on- and off-road, stiffening or relaxing the front and rear stabilizer bars as needed. Stiffer is better for controlled body motions on smooth pavement, while softer settings give the wheels a greater range of motion on rough terrain.
The high-quality leather is as good here as it is in any other Lexus. The infotainment, however…

Interestingly, the majority of the GX’s off-road features don’t work unless you select the four-wheel-drive system’s low-range, at which point you can also lock the center differential. The GX 460 has respectable off-road geometry, with approach, breakover and departure angles of 21, 21 and 23 degrees, respectively, as well as 8.1 inches of ground clearance. The GX has air suspension tech, too, but only for the rear wheels.
The moral of the story is, the GX is far more capable than you might think. Playing around at California’s Hungry Valley off-road park, the Lexus happily bounds along dusty trails and scales steep grades with confident power. I wouldn’t press it into service as a rock crawler — that’s what a Jeep Wrangler is for, or even a Toyota 4Runner — but for the sort of get-off-the-map overlanding that’s caused this whole resurgence in GX popularity, it’s got every tool for the job.
The GX is plenty nice for commuting through civilization, too. Normal, Sport and Comfort drive modes adjust the adaptive dampers, though to be honest I can barely tell a difference. Leave it in Comfort. Go plush or go home. Besides, the relatively light steering and somewhat sluggish transmission prove the GX doesn’t really want to be hustled. Instead, it’s smooth, just powerful enough and the interior is nicely insulated to keep the outside world where it belongs.
Motive force comes from a 4.6-liter naturally aspirated V8, pushing out 301 horsepower and 329 pound-feet of torque, sent to all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. The GX isn’t exactly quick, but a manufacturer-estimated 0-to-60-mph time of 7.8 seconds isn’t pokey, either. Unfortunately, this old powerplant is pretty thirsty, with the EPA estimating you’ll see 15 miles per gallon in the city, 20 mpg highway and 17 mpg combined.
Here’s hoping GX buyers actually take their SUVs off road.

The 2020 GX 460 starts at $54,025 including $1,025 for destination, which positions it well below its primary large-ish luxury off-road competitor, the Land Rover Range Rover Sport ($69,945). Upper-crust versions of the Jeep Grand Cherokee pose a bit of a threat, too, with the range-topping Summit coming in at $53,990. Fully loaded, the GX 460 Luxury pictured here costs $73,090.
If you don’t plan to take your luxury SUV off road, the Lexus GX probably isn’t for you. Car-based crossovers like the Audi Q7, BMW X5 or Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class offer more power, better fuel economy, fresher style and significantly better tech, with more relaxed on-road manners.
But there’s something oddly compelling about the archaic GX. Those who appreciate its rugged charm will find a lot to like. And hey, if one doesn’t make sense right now, Lexus’ proven reliability will make this GX a sweet secondhand buy when it’s time to build an overlanding rig of your own.

2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Review: Luxurious, Solid on Any Road Surface

The 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee is almost a decade old, and yet it’s currently the best-selling midsize SUV on the market: 242,969 sold last year, 200,000-plus most for much of the past two decades. The current body design has been around since 2011, there are 13 trim lines (model variants), multiple drivetrains, and varying levels of driver assistance technology.
Both despite its age and because of it – when the factory builds the same car year after year, reliability tends to improve – the Grand Cherokee has good fit and finish, a nicely controlled ride, a very nice interior on most trims, comfortable seats, and a solid infotainment system. Other than standard blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert, driver-assist features are optional. The two rows of seats are both roomy, but no third-row seat is offered.
If one owner says their Grand Cherokee does fine off-road but the interior looks just okay and the center stack display is small, a second owner says it’s pretty luxe and the display is nice, and a third says the cockpit looks great and did you know it goes 0-60 in 3.5 seconds, that’s because, with those trim lines, there’s one that costs $33,000, a couple that run around $50,000-$60,000, and one that runs $88,000 with a 707-hp engine. (No, that’s not a typo.) You decide how much off-road capability, acceleration, and rear-seat entertainment you want, and you pay accordingly.
On the Road
I test drove the Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit. It is the premier Grand Cherokee for people who don’t feel the need to have a strong Dodge Viper flavor to their SUV, in which case there’s the performance-oriented Grand Cherokee V8 SRT and the high-performance Trackhawk. My test car totaled $62,775 with a four-wheel-drive system – not just all-wheel-drive – that added $3,000, a V8 engine that added $3,795, an eight-speed automatic, telematics, onboard Wi-Fi, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an AC socket and plenty of USB jacks, and a $1,995 rear entertainment system. At this point, you’re pushing into Audi-BMW-Mercedes territory.
My time in the Grand Cherokee Summit included a late-winter run into the New York State Adirondacks area around Lake Placid. A detour through hilly, rutted dirt roads covered with about eight inches of snow proved no problem at all.
The ride up and back into the northwoods, on interstate highways, was pleasurable, with a comfortable driving position, decent audio, and very little road noise. The Grand Cherokee Summit is plenty comfortable for four adults and a weekend’s worth of luggage. Even with cupholders front and back and bins in the doors, in-cabin storage for little items was lacking.
Good Navi, but Audio Could Be Better
The UConnect 4 infotainment system on my car was quite easy to use. But note that not all Grand Cherokees get UConnect 4 and 8-inch center stack screens. For years, Chrysler-Dodge-Ram products have had very good navigation and infotainment. It doesn’t hurt that when you press the NAV button, the screen asks you, “Where to?” The only people who don’t get that are grade-school teachers looking for a verb and a complete sentence.
This was the first Harman Kardon premium audio system I’ve driven that wasn’t breathtaking. It had 19 speakers and the issue – to me – was the woofer in the driver’s kick panel area. It was so heavily boosted that with the volume up and listening to my workout playlist (you know: the songs you’re too embarrassed to share), the sound pressure made my pant legs flap. So much so it felt like a Rockford Fosgate system, a brand happy to be known for heavy – sorry, deep – bass. It was much improved by turning the bass setting below the midpoint.
Not Enough Driver Assists
The advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) are not all state-of-the-art and too many are extra-cost. Nothing wrong with blind-spot detection (standard) or lane keep assist (included on some trim lines). The optional ParkSense backup system auto-stops the car if you get too close to a stopped object. That’s all good. Adaptive cruise control goes down to zero but you have to manually resume forward travel, and if you’re stopped more than three seconds, ACC disengages.
Forward collision warning, a technology that requires a low-cost front-facing camera, is optional. Of the 18 midsize, two-row SUVs on the market, the only non-Jeep product lacking FCW is the revived Chevrolet Blazer, which, despite its heritage, is not a hard-core off-roader. Automatic emergency braking for highway and for city situations are also optional, and pedestrian AEB is not offered.
My Grand Cherokee Summit 4X4 was rated at 14 mpg city, 22 mpg highway, and 17 mpg overall. I averaged 20 mpg in a week of primarily highway driving.
So Many Models to Choose From
The 2020 Grand Cherokee comes in a dazzling array of trim lines, or model variants. Currently, there are 13. These prices include $1,495 shipping.

It’s hard to describe each model other than to note the Laredo E is a nicer Laredo, not a hybrid; North Edition and Trailhawk target wintry off-roading and off-roading; and SRT and Trackhawk are high-performance SUVs that also go off-road and tow boats.
Should You Buy?
The Grand Cherokee is the best of the seven Jeep models you can buy in terms of modern-day amenities and reliability without sacrificing heavy snow / off-road driving. It’s also the best-selling, with 26 percent of Jeep’s 923,2981 2019 sales. By our count, there are nearly 25 midsize, mainstream-price SUVs, and almost as many premium midsize SUVs. The top sellers, mainstream or premium, are:

(Note: The big falloff for the Ford Explorer came in the wake of quality-control problems while getting the sixth-generation Explorer and the sibling Lincoln Aviator into production at Ford’s Chicago assembly plant.)
The Jeep Cherokee is not an entry edition of the Grand Cherokee but a separate model eight inches shorter than Grand Cherokee’s 190 inches, with a base four-cylinder engine and not quite as refined.
The Grand Cherokee is your best choice among midsize SUVs if you want an one that goes off-road, not just negotiate a lightly plowed gravel road near the ski slope, and does it with a reasonable amount of passenger comfort. As a bonus, some Grand Cherokees can tow up to 7,200 pounds; the rest tow at least 3,500 pounds. If you have little kids (two), the dual rear entertainment system may be worth the healthy price. The V6 engines are good and the V8s are better but gas mileage suffers.
The mainstream trim lines fare well against the Chevrolet Blazer and Ford Edge. The roomier, longer, three-row Ford Explorer is also a competitor for those who value towing capacity. The Toyota 4Runner is very good off-road but not as smooth otherwise. If you want a competent all-around vehicle, look also at the Subaru Ascent, Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, and Hyundai Santa Fe. The Dodge Durango is a cousin to the Grand Cherokee, is longer, and has three rows of seats, but isn’t as skilled off-roading.
The Grand Cherokee upper trim lines compete nicely against premium brands. But it’s hard to match the NVH and highway manners of say, a BMW X5, when you go into battle in a design released the same year Ke$ha debuted We R Who We R.
Other top midsize SUVs don’t map to Grand Cherokee’s off-roader ethic. The Lexus RX is all-around excellent but is not what you want going off-road or hauling a trailer. The Mazda CX-9 is the sportiest and most fun to drive, but without the cargo capacity.
Jeep’s other sales advantage is that Grand Cherokee buyers are predisposed toward USA vehicles. According to JD Power research, 76 percent of Grand Cherokee owners say they prefer buying from a domestic company versus 58 percent for the midsize SUV segment as a whole. That means Grand Cherokee owners may not cross-shop the sporty Korean-flagged Kia Telluride (three rows but still midsize), even it’s built in Alabama, and the similar Hyundai Palisade. The Grand Cherokee would win on off-road driving. But in other areas, Kia and Hyundai are extremely competitive, particularly NVH and driver assists.
A new Grand Cherokee should be introduced this year as a 2021 model. Given how well Jeep has done to keep the fourth-generation model competitive, the new model should be impressive.

Comma.ai launches Comma Two, a $999 kit that imbues cars with assisted driving features
Two years ago, analysts predicted that upwards of 10 million self-driving cars would hit the road by 2020. They weren’t the only ones — in 2015 and 2016, respectively, The Guardian and Business Insider proclaimed that people would become “permanent backseat driver[s],” riding in fully autonomous cars from 2020 “without needing any interaction from [drivers].”
Fast forward to today. Despite assurances that as many as 8 million driverless cars will be added to the road in 2025, even operations like that of Alphabet’s Waymo have yet to expand beyond selected metros. The reasons are regulatory as well as technological in nature, but expense plays a role. Conservative estimates peg the cost of outfitting cars at between $100,000 to 250,000 per car.
So why not go the do-it-yourself route? That’s the question George Hotz posed five years ago — he’s the American hacker best known for developing exploits that targeted Apple’s iOS operating system and reverse-engineering Sony’s PlayStation 3. In September 2015, Hotz founded Comma.ai with the goal of developing a semi-automated system — OpenPilot — that would improve cars’ visual perception and electromechanical motor control. Unlike most full-stack solutions in testing, it’s intended to replace OEM advanced driver-assistance systems, effectively imbuing cars with self-driving capabilities.
For the first time in its history, Comma.ai has an official presence at the Consumer Electronics Show. The company this week invited members of the press (including VentureBeat) to test-drive the latest version of its system — and to show off the Comma Two.
OpenPilot
OpenPilot’s development had a bit of a rocky start. The first version’s reveal in a Bloomberg article and video prompted a cease-and-desist letter from the California Department of Motor Vehicles, which accused Comma.ai of testing a self-driving car in the state without a license. Subsequently, OpenPilot was packaged into a shippable device dubbed the Comma One, which again ran afoul of the authorities because of noncompliance with U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Under pressure from the National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration, Comma One was canceled, and Comma.ai open-sourced OpenPilot on GitHub.
Much has changed. In the roughly three years since Comma.ai made OpenPilot available to the public, over 1,500 users have racked up more than 14 million autonomous miles collectively, half of which were driven autonomously. (That’s up from 10 million miles as of May 2019.) Moreover, they’ve forked the GitHub repository over 2,300 times, adding features like automatic lane change and support for older Tesla, Chrysler, and Jeep models.
Comma Two
Comma.ai previously sold the Eon Devkit, a self-contained and windshield-mounted modified OnePlus phone. It started at $599, and once OpenPilot was installed to it, it automatically recognized car models by analyzing CAN network traffic. (The presence of certain CAN messages and their lengths is an indication of the model year, car brand, car model, and trim.) Companion devices dubbed the Panda and Giraffe plugged into cars’ OBD-II ports to track RPMs, MPG, cornering G-force, battery life, and more, and to provide access to the communication buses and enable the Eon to interface with the car.
The Comma Two replaces the Eon, but it retains all of the Eon’s features and then some. That said, it ditches the Panda for a single-cord solution, and it’s slightly pricier at $1,000 (though it’s available on a payment plan through Affirm).
The first batch of 300 units are available for purchase today. They’ll begin shipping later in the month, Hotz says.
The Comma Two is powered via OBD-C as opposed to by battery, which Hotz says was a top complaint among current Eon owners, and it has a larger mount as well as a custom fan-based hardware cooling solution. Like the Eon, which used a camera to recognize drivers’ faces and decelerate if it detected those drivers were distracted, the Comma Two performs facial recognition. In point of fact, it’s in improved in that it leverages two infrared sensors as opposed to an RGB sensor, enabling it to work during nighttime.
Other highlights include front and back cameras, as well as a fourth CAN bus to connect the OBD-II port and a low-power mode that automatically shuts off the Comma Two after three days to save car battery.
The Eon was equipped with cellular service and a SIM card supplied by Comma.ai. Data was unlimited (though capped to 512Kbps), and users could spring for Comma Prime if they so chose, a $24 per month service that enables remote access (via T-Mobile) from anywhere and online storage of 14 days’ worth of drive data (compared with the standard three days). The Comma Two also taps cellular for connectivity and plays nicely with new and existing Comma Prime subscriptions, and it comes with a year’s worth of storage.
By default, OpenPilot uploads driving data in real time from the road-facing camera, CAN, GPS, inertial measurement unit, magnetometer, thermal sensors, and operating system to Comma.ai’s servers for machine learning training and development purposes. Much of this data can be accessed locally through the Comma Connect app for iOS and Android or through Explorer, an online dashboard of recent drives from which disengagements (i.e., instances when a driver took control from OpenPilot) can be annotated to help improve the system.
From within the app, Comma Two owners can remotely wake up the Comma Two and snap a picture from either the front- or rear-facing cameras. Additionally, they’re able to switch among multiple units on the fly and to view their real-time geographic locations.

Equally critically, OpenPilot isn’t capable of fully autonomous driving on all road types in all conditions. It can currently handle lane centering on roads without clear marking thanks to machine learning algorithms trained with user data, and it can maintain a safe follow distance and drive in stop-and-go traffic without supervision.
But it’s complicated. On all supported cars, OpenPilot’s automated lane centering and lane keep assist replace the stock systems. Only on specific supported cars does the system’s adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning slot in for default, however, and on no model does OpenPilot take over things like auto high-beam, blind spot warning, and side collision warning.
Driving experience
So how’s the driving experience with the Comma Two? “Smooth sailing” sums it up. OpenPilot indeed maintains its lane position even when the markings aren’t obvious — or aren’t visible. In a construction site with cones on either side and on an unpaved road without dividing lines, we watched OpenPilot deftly keep centered and maintain a comfortable following distance from the car in front of it.
It doesn’t much matter whether the road ahead is straight or severely curved. OpenPilot used to scrape OpenStreetMap for road curvature and traffic data, but it doesn’t any longer — now, it’s smart enough to calculate the trajectory in real time and to ensure it doesn’t speed along that trajectory too violently.
In this respect, OpenPilot is akin to Nissan’s ProPilot Assist, Volvo’s Pilot Assist, and GM’s Super Cruise, the last of which is one of the few systems that offers hands-free driving thanks to an eye-monitoring infrared camera. But in contrast to Super Cruise, which only engages on about 130,000 miles of U.S. and Canadian highway that GM has mapped, OpenPilot theoretically works anywhere there’s a discernible road.
OpenPilot can change lanes automatically, but it requires signaling from drivers before it does so — they have to first switch on a turn signal and nudge the steering wheel in the direction they’d like to go. It smoothly merging while keeping pace with the traffic ahead in our brief experience. But Hotz noted that OpenPilot won’t prevent lane changes when cars are to the immediate left or right, in the Comma Two’s blind spot.
Of course, Comma Two and OpenPilot can’t anticipate every situation. An SUV rear-ended a hatchback during our driving demo, forcing Hotz — who was behind the wheel — to tap the brake and disengage the system. And OpenPilot doesn’t handle things like red lights or stop signs — at least not yet.
Safety
Whether OpenPilot can be considered truly safe is a semantics question, in part. The driverless car industry lacks an agreed-upon metric for safety — Noah Zych, head of system safety at Uber’s Advanced Technologies Group, told Wired in an interview that miles traveled isn’t a particularly insightful measure without context like location. Derek Kan, U.S. secretary for policy at the U.S. Department of Transportation, echoed that sentiment in remarks at a conference two years ago.
Companies like Intel’s Mobileye and Nvidia have proposed mathematical models that aim to codify good habits like giving other cars the right of way. Essentially, they’re decision-making policies in a motion-planning stack that monitor unsafe actions by analyzing real-time sensor data.
Comma.ai has a safety model of its own, which Hotz said involves several forms of regression testing. Commits aren’t merged to the OpenPilot codebase before they’ve met the test suite’s muster.
This aside, Comma.ai problematically hasn’t committed to regularly publishing any sort of statistics beyond miles driven, like disengagements or accidents. California’s Department of Motor Vehicles mandates that all companies testing autonomous cars report disengagements, but because Comma.ai doesn’t have a permit to test cars, it’s exempt from this requirement.
Hotz for his part asserts that the infrared sensors in Comma Two will improve safety substantially, as will the onboarding video customers are required to watch before they launch OpenPilot for the first time. On the subject of the former, a warning appears on the Comma Two’s screen if a driver diverts their eyes from the road for four seconds, and after six seconds, OpenPilot disengages and begins to slow down. (Unclicking the driver-side seat belt or opening the car door also disengages the system.)
For what it’s worth, we encountered only one disengagement — Hotz’s stop to avoid the accident — over roughly 7 miles and 25 minutes of driving “We pushed on nuance [with this latest version of OpenPilot],” said Hotz. “Intersections have no lane lines — it’s unclear where you should go. [OpenPilot] follows the path that the human would follow.”
Backend improvements
On the backend side of the OpenPilot equation, new is a simulation environment called the Small Offset Simulator that loads in real-world routes and simulates deviations of them. “You can’t just take a lot of data and train a model to mimic the data, because that model doesn’t realize that if it takes action, the world will change,” said Hotz. “The only way to really do that is to build a simulator.”
Using a technique called projected geometry and generative adversarial networks (GANs), or two-part AI models comprising generators that synthesize data samples and discriminators that attempt to distinguish between the synthesized samples and real data, the simulator redraws scenes meters to the left or right or with curvature and other perturbations. Hotz said that the models within the Small Offset Simulator are now training on 200,000 minutes of driving data collected by Eon users.
It’s similar — but not quite the same — as the simulation environments deployed internally by Uber, Waymo, and others. GM’s Cruise, for instance, leverages a replay approach that involves extracting real-world sensor data, playing it back against the car’s software, and comparing the performance with human-labeled ground truth data. Cruise also engages in planning simulation, which lets the company’s data scientists create up to hundreds of thousands of variations of a scenario by tweaking variables like the speed of oncoming cars and the space between them.
Future developments
Going forward, Comma.ai plans to release new hardware on roughly a yearly cadence — Hotz believes its business model of selling devices at profit and eating the cost of software development is sustainable. (Comma.ai has raised $8.1 million in venture capital to date across two funding rounds, the most recent of which closed in April 2018.) As for OpenPilot, achieving a better end-to-end driving experience remains an acute area of focus for the engineering team.
“What we want to do is move away from [lead car following] and move to an end-to-end longitudinal [model],” he said. “One of the problems we as a company have trying to convey is, when it works well, you don’t even notice it. Our company mission is to solve self-driving cars while shipping intermediaries.”
But Comma.ai isn’t discouraging rivals from cloning its hardware and piggybacking off of OpenPilot. In fact, Hotz encourages it, just as he encourages those with proprietary solutions to compete with Comma.ai.
One such challenger — former Yahoo CTO John Hayes’ Ghost Locomotion — emerged from stealth last November promising an aftermarket self-driving kit to retrofit existing cars. Another — Cambridge, U.K.-based Wayve — claims its driverless cars self-improve by learning from safety driver interventions. Mobileye doesn’t sell a consumer product, but like Comma.ai, its driverless tech leans on cameras for autonomous decision-making. And then there’s Tesla, which recently release a preview of an active guidance system (Navigate on Autopilot) that navigates a car from a highway on-ramp to off-ramp, including interchanges and making lane changes.
Hotz is unconcerned. “Mobileye is the Windows [of autonomous driving] that’s going to do Microsoft-style business development deals with big companies, Tesla’s the Mac that’s going to ship sexy hardware to consumers, and we’re the Linux,” he said. “Everybody should use us for whatever they want.”

2020 Jeep Cherokee Interior Review: Still Fresh
It’s no secret that the automotive industry moves fast, with fierce competition in every segment. It’s normal for vehicles generations to be replaced every five or six years, bringing new technology on board and under the skin, as well as better safety technologies. Jeep introduced the current-gen Cherokee as a 2014 model at the 2013 New York International Auto Show. In early 2018, the SUV got a midcycle refresh that provided its interior and exterior with a younger vibe.
We recently spent some time in the 2020 Jeep Cherokee, and we were pleased with its roominess and the quality of materials throughout the cabin.
2020 Jeep Cherokee: Infotainment System
In the past, we’ve commended Jeep and other FCA products for their great infotainment systems. Uconnect is one of the best systems on the market, as it’s easy to use and has great graphics. It’s also fast and designed just like a smartphone, so there’s basically no learning curve. Our Trailhawk model was equipped with the optional 8.4-inch screen, which is ideal when you’re using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, as it’s big enough to read every font.
Lower Cherokee trims are equipped with a 7.0-inch screen, which also comes with the same Uconnect infotainment system. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard in the Cherokee, so you don’t really have to pay extra for navigation.
2020 Jeep Cherokee: Dimensions
Whether you sit in the front or second row, the 2020 Jeep Cherokee is quite spacious. Rear-seat passengers have plenty of legroom, though headroom is a bit limited at 38.5 inches. With the driver’s seat position adjusted for my 6-foot frame, I climbed in the second row and noted good legroom—40.3 inches, to be exact.
I especially enjoyed the panoramic sunroof when seated in the second row. It makes the cabin feel airier and more spacious. Rear-seat passengers also get to enjoy their own air vents and two USB ports, keeping them cooled and connected on road trips.
With 49.4 cubic feet of cargo room, there’s plenty of space for everyone’s gear, and the second row folds completely flat, which is helpful when you need to make trips to Home Depot or Ikea.
2020 Jeep Cherokee: Interior Materials
The Trailhawk model comes with the Cherokee’s most upscale interior. The Nappa leather is soft, the red stitching makes it look premium, and the seats are quite comfortable for long road trips. The perforated leather front seats up the game, and the leather that graces the steering wheel and the beefy shifter is of good quality.
Hard plastics are used in few places, but most of the areas wear upgraded materials that make the cabin more comfortable.
2020 Jeep Cherokee: Interior Design
Because this is a Jeep, you can expect a few cool interior details. For example, the steering wheel has a badge that reads “Since 1949,” reminding the driver when the brand was created. Other design details include a dashboard with the typical Jeep font and the 4WD selector, which is a simple knob in front of the shifter.
Although the quality of the materials is very good, we wish Jeep offered more interior colors, as the Trailhawk is only available in black. The Cherokee offers more color combinations for other trims, but this off-road-oriented model is black-on-black only.

Changes For 2020 In The Jeep Grand Cherokee
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is Jeep’s Flagship SUV and comes available in various models from budget models to high end. The 7 2018 Grand Cherokee models that are also the majority of Jeep’s Grand Cherokee line-up includes the Laredo, Limited Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, SRT and Trackhawk.

While this shouldn’t affect people looking to buy their first Jeep Grand Cherokee Deals from buying the new 2020 models, those who own the 2018 Grand Cherokees may not see any reason to purchase this years models even with a good trade-in value.
Introducing Jeep Grand Cherokee’s Newest Model Despite the fact that most of Grand Cherokee’s line-up is not bursting with new features, Jeep has introduced a brand new model to their Grand Cherokee line-up the Grand Cherokee Limited X. This latest model of this SUV features a uniquely styled front and rear fascia with a performance vented hood and Granite Exterior rear fascias.
This Limited X has a dual exhaust and 20-inch low gloss granite crystal wheels. This gives this newest model of Grand Cherokee a beautiful high-end appearance.
However, the exterior of the Limited X is not the only part of this Grand Cherokee that gives this SUV a high-end look and feel.
The interior of this vehicle is black with heritage perforated seats (the heritage name comes from the seat that looks pretty much like the original 1990 Grand Cherokee’s seats).
Like the rest of the Grand Cherokee line-up, The Limited X comes with the Uconnect 8.4 inch touch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Connect. It also has a 9 speaker audio system with active noise cancellation, Blind spot monitoring, and rear cross path detection.

A sua ‘irmã’ mais velha, Ram 2500 faz um sucesso por aqui já tem um bom tempo. O modelo está na segunda geração e na esteira do sucesso que foi a picape média Dakota, produzida aqui, povoa o sonho de muitos. E por quase cinco anos, a Ram 1500 é aguardada para ocupar o andar debaixo da 2500. Agora, finalmente, o modelo deve chegar às ruas do País em 2020.
Para o Brasil, ela chega com a missão de disputar não espaço, mas sim o bolso do comprador de picapes médias de topo. Hoje, as versões mais completas de Hilux, S10, Ranger e Amarok, para citar as quatro mais vendidas, custam na casa dos R$ 200 mil.

Nos Estados Unidos, onde o combustível é bem mais em conta, ela tem ainda duas opções de motores V8 Hemi a gasolina com 400 cv. A quarta opção é o 3.6 V6 Pentastar a gasolina de 310 cv.
A transmissão é a automática de oito marchas com opção de trocas manuais com 4×4 para alta velocidade e 4×4 reduzida. A caixa de transferência da reduzida tem duas velocidades e o acionamento é elétrico. Nos Estados Unidos, há como opcional um diferencial traseiro bloqueante.

A suspensão dianteira da Ram 1500 é do tipo independente double wishbone, ou duplo A, com amortecedores duplos e barra estabilizadora. A suspensão a ar é um opcional que deve ficar de fora da versão importada ao Brasil por questões de custo.
Na traseira, a opção é por uma suspensão independente de multilink com amortecedores progressivos e barra estabilizadora e eixo rígido. A direção tem assistência elétrica. O tanque é de 87 litros.
