1323... neues Jahr neues Leben.

On removing clothing
I peel back my sweater, after a wave of warmth flushes over me. Wet with desire, I sit atop his body. There is nothing but a tank-top between us, but it might as well be a fortress of wiring and concrete walls.
He lays, chest covered in hair, the perfect picture of what Mom always suggested was true manhood. I can hear her telling me through the rearview mirror, as we drive through the Los Angeles landscape; cement buildings whirl into a passing image of distant downtown castles. “Mija, a real man has hair on his chest.”
I keep this truth with me, even as our car rides have ended, and planes have taken me to far off lands, past these mountains, past these momentary frames of childhood.
And, here I am, now.
My legs are spread across his groin. He asks me to remove my shirt, the way so many men before him have.
I pause.
The act, seeming so effortless in his mind makes me think that I am the one who is off. I must be stuck.
“Why are you so shy?” He seems confused.
The statement hits like a shard of glass.
“I am not connected.” My eye gaze flutters to the wall behind our scene of love-making that has come to a halt.
It’s in this act of reflection that I come to a deeper understanding of where I am. I am behind these walls, underneath the wiring - afraid of being seen - afraid of the naked truth that comes with this vulnerability. Afraid of what it is to remove clothing, like removing layers, like removing wires, like breaking walls down - this brutal act so moving, it shakes my being into mirror.

On this day, January 6, 2000, @bernardstramwasser registered Le Sommelier as a business. It took a little while to get things off the ground, so these wine labels are among the first vintages wines we sold. J.M. Sohler from the Alsace was our first winery and we were their first export market (and their only one still). I love these guys and would tag them in this post, but they still don’t have a website, let alone @instagram! It’s been an incredible adventure over the last 20 years, and we could not have done it without the support of our office staff, sales team, delivery crew, numerous people at the LCBO, and of course, our amazing clients across Ontario. ❤️ I am so incredibly appreciative and grateful to our team for believing in our company and our producers. Some of our Le Sommelier team have have been with us for more than a decade. I’m looking forward to our anniversary year, and continuing to grow this dream. Thank you all. 🙏 #20in20 #2020 #anniversary #happybirthdaytous #cheersto20years #cremantdalsace #champagne #wine #wineoclock (at Le Sommelier, Wine Agency) https://www.instagram.com/p/B6_VsQRBmJw/?igshid=vamuylzb612i

Looking through all the icons I created on Livejournal like 10 years ago now. Back before I knew how to gif...
Sharpening was clearly not something I knew how to do back then.
My screencaps I was working with may have just been really poor quality as well.
I was using GIMP back then because I hadn’t acquired a copy of photoshop online yet and I was actually way better at blending scenes with GIMP than I currently am in Photoshop.
It’s really clear when I used a B&W text texture as opposed to adding my own text, because I was really bad at choosing fonts. They just do not look good when I did it.
Stop making the skin look so damn green. What is with that? I even had someone tell me that once (I still remember) and I still kept doing it. Oh my god, it looks so bad!!!!
That tendency to over brighten a scene until half the canvas is basically white? Why?
I was really prolific. Like, I was making icons all the damn time. Batches of 100 or more
I really loved the 20in20 challenges. Should really think of how to bring those back...

I'm late for this thing, but I think it will be fun!
I focused mostly on goals, since I’m also partecipating to @bookbandit #tbrbusterchallenge, and it was a nice surprise to find out that I had a lot of goals wandering in my mind, just waiting to be put down in writing and fulfilled!
So here it is:
Read The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell
Buy and read Paper Girls by Vaughan and Chiang
Read Building Sories by Chris Ware
Buy and read House of leaves by Danielewski
Bust my physical TBR shelf
Read some Discword
Check out marvel comics
Start reading a new series
Read my granfather’s poems
Finish Hyacinthe
Read and review Nella Selva Oscura as often as I can
Go to the second-hand bookstore once a month
Read the whole books assigned at uni, if I enjoy them, and not just the required chapters
Start going to the public library
Read some of the books mentioned in class
Quit the books I’m not liking
Research and read feminist non fiction
Sort out and read all the random documents that I save on my pc
Buy books from that independent bookstore
Decide which books I want to sell

Love as Breath
Three years later:
Today marks the day I stood atop the Venetian skyline and asked you to fall with me. I remember it the way I remember cold, winter mornings in Berlin — crisp air filling lungs with a soft melody of fright, a ting of pain, a reluctance for letting it enter — always surmounted by an inescapable surrender.
Here, 3 years later, and I am still warm with tears when I think of our love and lovemaking; the way we built dream houses in corners of the world, flittered our photos of kisses across continents and changing landscapes.
There is a fear of letting go breath sometimes, especially when you’ve filled yourself with it with such intention. It’s an act that requires faith that you will be open to receiving again, maybe even sooner than you think.
But, still.
It is an assurance that requires a higher knowing. It is the one pattern of life we often forget because it feels so natural; the release - the hold -
the knowing that breath,
like love,
is always there; whether we catch it or release it, it is with us, always. The ebb and flow is beyond our control, and we must learn, like most things in life, to just let it be.
Today marks a moment where I finally feel I am ready to let Us be. Our paths united for sometime, and in my heart, I know we taught one another more than what we expected. I am thankful. I am grateful to have shared such beauty and magic. And now, as our paths slowly diverge, I know in my heart we will meet again. It has taken me years to accept that
the letting be, is the real act of Love.
I know now, more than ever, even in our separation we are more united than we ever were together.
I love you.
Always and forever,
namewitheld
