I'm still not over the thomats challenge. Thomas just casually calls mats matsi? And mats reads thomas' mind before he can even tell the dirty joke?? I love them
You don’t ever have to get over it, dearest anon! I’m certainly not :) I love their cute little nicknames for one another—Matsi for Mats, Müll for Thomas. Come to think of it, I don’t think anyone else calls them that except each other, and I think that makes their relationship even more special. You know you’ve been friends for a long time when you know what the other person’s thinking without them having to say it, and that’s exactly how Thomas and Mats are with one another. It’s so sweet 🥺

HUMANIST PORTRAITURE IN RENAISSANCE ENGLAND
As Lord High Chancellor of England, the humanist scholar and author Sir Thomas More was the highest ranking official of King Henry VIII's court and one of the wealthiest men in England. In 1527, More commissioned Henry's Swiss court artist, Hans Holbein the Younger, to paint a group portrait of his extended family. The monumentally-scaled picture, depicting 12, highly-individualized figures in a unified spatial setting, executed in deep, jewel-like colors, set a new standards of invention, complexity and quality hitherto unparalled in English panel painting.
Holbein placed More at the center of the composition. His father, the judge Sir John More, is seated to More's right and his only son, John, stands to his left. Just beyond the family's patrinlineal core, is Holbein depicts More's daughters: Elizabeth Daunce attends to Sir John, while Cecily Heron and Margaret Roper are seated at right. More's second wife, Lady Alice More, is seated at the far right. Her daughter from her first marriage, Margaret Giggs, stands at the far left. Anne Cresacre, of Sir Thomas and future wife of John, stands behind the Sir John. Also included in the portrait are the household ‘fool," Henry Patenson, in orange, and More’s clerk John Harris. All figures are identified by Latin inscriptions.
More's wife and children all hold books. Some are shown reading, while others pause to reflect with their books either open or mark their place with a finger. The clerk, entering from the right, carries a scrolled document, no doubt intended for Sir Thomas. More books and musical instruments are displayed on a shelf and a large pendulum clock hangs on the rear wall. As he would later do in The Ambassadors, Holbein conspicuously represents these objects to emphasize the literate and learned humanist culture of More's household. An advocate of the education of women, More educated his wife, daughters, and son in the same liberal arts cirriculum. The panel's latin inscriptions would have posed problems for no members of the family. Margaret Roper's mastery as a translator of Greek and Latin was widely acknowledged by More's humanist peers, including Erasmus.
The deeply-pious More had briefly entered a Carthusian monastery prior to embarking on his political career and his profound Christian belief influenced his theories of humanist education. Margaret is therefore seen reading Seneca's Œdipus, while Elizabeth carries his Epistolae under her arm. These texts, along with The Consolation of Philosophy by Boethius, seen on a table, represent ancient Stoic philosophy held to be compatible with Christian values. Further indications of the family's Christian piety include the crucifix worn by Patenson, the rosary worn by Margaret, and the red cross suspended from Elizabeth’s choker. Flowers associated with the Virgin Mary – lilies, carnations, columbine, iris and peony – are displayed in vases around the room.
Tumblr media
Painting served an important purpose in More's learned circle. In 1517, his friends and collaborators Erasmus and the scholar-editor Pieter Gillis (one of the dialogic participants in More's Utopia), commissioned Quentin Matsys portraits of themselves, showing them at work in their studies, as gifts for More as tokens of their intense intellectual bond.
More's resistance to Henry VIII's ecclesiastical policies led to his execution in 1536. His family portrait survived, with several later additions and alterations, until it was destroyed in a fire in 1752. Today, it is known through two 16th-century copies and Holbein's exquisite preparatory drawings.

The Money Changer and His Wife | Quentin Matsys | 1514 | Louvre, Paris
“A man, who is weighing the jewels and pieces of gold on the table in front of him sits next to his wife who is reading a book of devotion with an illustration of the Virgin and Child. The couple is not dressed as members of nobility, but rather as well-to-do burghers of Antwerp, where the painting was made. At the time, Antwerp had grown with the influx of many southern immigrants fleeing the Spanish Inquisition. Among this international community there was a demand for money-changers and money-lenders, as international commerce was increasing in the port city.”

@siraranispleased tagged me in this (thank you!) so I’ll be partaking!

Hömmels / Steno for the fic meme :)
HÖMMELS
notp / not really / meh / I could / sometimes / maker, yes / my otp babbies
Who is the most affectionate? Most definitely BOTH.
Big spoon/Little spoon?Mats, most of the time. Benni, when Mats has had a shitty day, is angry or sad about something.
Most common argument?Mats is quite a flirt, even if he doesn’t mean to. Benni doesn’t particularly like it.
Favorite non-sexual activity?Just spending time together. They’re always happy and comfortable in each other’s presence, so it doesn’t really matter.
Who is most likely to carry the other?Mats carries Benni around. On some rare occasions Benni carries Mats around too.
Nicknames?Mats calls Benni Bene, mostly, but also Schatz and sometimes babe. Benni sometimes calls him Schatz, and Matsi or Schatzi when he wants to annoy him.
Who worries the most? They both worry a fair amount – Benni more obviously; Mats internalizes everything that bothers him, always seeming calm and collected on the outside.
Who tops?Mats tops about 65% of the time.
Who initiates kisses? Both!!! All the time, whenever possible. Just like, short little pecks on cheeks, nose, hair and so on.
Who wakes up first?Benni (because Mats stayed up scrolling through his phone or reading for too long)
Who says I love you first?Mats!
STENO
notp / not really / meh / I could / sometimes / maker, yes / my otp babbies
Who is the most affectionate?Marc, easily. Bernd isn’t prone on letting people see his softer side, but Marc has all this love in him and it demands to be let out.
Big spoon/Little spoon? They both want to be the big spoon. They end up switching. (Most of the time)
Most common argument?Either about football (can’t get rid of old habits that easily) or because the long-distance relationship is taking a toll on them.
Favorite non-sexual activity? They both love it when Marc teaches Bernd to cook. Actually, the taller goalie turns out to be better at baking. Also going on clichéd little dates incognito, like to the zoo or something.
Who is most likely to carry the other? They don’t do that a lot, but I feel like it’s happened that Bernd just threw Marc over his shoulder after calling him ‘shorty’. To get back at him, Marc randomly picks him up bridal style during training.
Nicknames? They don’t really use many. Marc calls Bernd Berndi sometimes, to tease him, and Schatz when he’s feeling especially affectionate. Bernd has let babe slip out before, but he would deny that on his deathbed.
Who worries the most?Bernd, probably.
Who tops? They both want to top. They end up switching.
Who initiates kisses? Both. Often at the same times, which results in a lot of bumping noses and the occasional giggle attack.
Who wakes up first?I’d say Marc.
Who says I love you first?Marc again, he’s much more open about his feelings and wants to let Bernd know as soon as he figures out.

We’re all included with Vikki Matsis
Tumblr media
We’re so happy to have Vikki Matsis, president and co-founder of Media Reform SC, as our April speaker on “inclusion”. Her organization established Charleston’s only listener-supported community radio station, Ohm Radio 96.3 FM - which focuses on the inclusion of Charleston’s local music and public affairs.
As the founder of the American Hostel Conference and manager at Notso Hostel, Vikki has actually written the book on what it’s like to run a hostel. (Really..the book is called “Inside An American Hostel!”)
As one of Charleston’s 50 most progressive people (it was voted on!), we look forward to hearing about how inclusivity affects her everyday life.
We chatted with Vikki to get an idea of how she’s created a media platform for inclusivity and what gets her inspired.
All photos by Kate Thornton Photography: https://www.katethorntonphotography.com/
What do you love most about what you do?
I love providing a platform for expression. Ohm Radio is a station that reflects what is happening in our community and is not influenced by advertising. I love being part of the solution, creating independent media in an increasingly consolidated and corporate world.
What inspired you and how did you become involved in your current career(s)?
My advisor Dr. Faye Steuer taught me everything I know about media reform. She is the founder of MRSC and is the reason I became an engaged citizen in this community.
How do you start your day?
I start my day with a two and half year old hugging and kissing me and making me laugh. I also usually start my day with a cup of jasmine green tea.
Tell us about your proudest moment or accomplishment.
Personally, my proudest moment was finishing a marathon in 2008. Professionally, my proudest moment was our first moment broadcasting over the air in Charleston, August 1, 2015 11AM!
Do you have a hidden talent?
I love to write and sing songs and play the guitar and piano.
Who or what gives you creative inspiration?
My husband Lee Barbour. He is the most dedicated and focused musician. He inspires me to be objective, listen deeply and be the best version of myself.
Coffee fuels our morning events. If you're a coffee drinker, what's your go-to order?
No coffee for me! I'm a green tea drinker all day long.
What is your favorite place in Charleston?
Hampton Park, on the branch of the big climbing tree
How do you unwind or destress?
I love to read, especially read cookbooks!

"The Ugly Duchess": the Enigma of the portrait of a woman deformed by a rare disease (or not?)
It could be the caricature of the splendid Countess Margaret of Tyrol, who lived two centuries earlier, or the portrait of a woman suffering from a rare disease, who commissioned the work for herself... -Adam😊......read on #randomtimes_com 👇🏼
Probably, before devoting himself to painting, Quentin Matsys (1466-1530) was a blacksmith. However, perhaps to conquer his future wife, who was seeing a painter more romantic than a blacksmith, or perhaps because of a much more prosaic illness that prevented him from being at the forge, Quentin devoted himself to art, and his stupendous realism often slipped towards a satirical and grotesque…

'We did all we could for Fadlu'
New Post has been published on https://bestfreebettingtips.com/we-did-all-we-could-for-fadlu/
'We did all we could for Fadlu'
Maritzburg United CEO Younus Kadodia says they plan to strengthen their frontline in the January transfer window.
READ: Muhsin identifies Maritzburg’s shortcomings
Maritzburg are propping up the Absa Premiership table with 11 points from 14 games, having only scored five times.
The club’s management consequently fired coach Fadlu Davids and replaced him with Muhsin Ertugral last month, while they also signed midfielder Mpho Matsi on loan from Cape Town City for the rest of the season.
“We are already in communication with the coach. As a club we’ve noted the team needs to improve in the attack, we need more upfront. In defence I think we are sorted, especially with Mpho Matsi coming in,” Kadodia said.
He added: “We are positive about the new coach. We are not in the position where we want to be as a club. We can plan for two years after surviving.”
Kadodia insists Davids, who guided United to a top-four finish in 2017/18 and the Nedbank Cup final, was given their full support before being axed.
“The last six months has not been good for us. We had plans to build on what a great season we had. I can tell you we did everything we can for our former coach.”
“The last six months has not been good for us. We had plans to build on what a great season we had. I can tell you we did everything we can for our former coach.”
Kadodia believes their new assistant coach Mabhuti Khenyeza, who replaced Fadlu’s younger brother Maahier, will prove his worth in time in KwaZulu-Natal.
