NetworkMAT: Streetscaping 001 (Sidewalks & Sewers)
Tumblr media
Published: 5-23-2024 | Updated: 7-16-2024 (+hood visibility) SUMMARY “Accentuate the streets, pedestrian paths, and roadsides in your city …” “Rubberall is made from upcycled rubber, metal, and other materials. It's ten and a half times weather resistant as regular rubber and twice a pretty. Order it in bulk today!” “Build a functional water and waste management system in your city…” Another edition to the Network Materials (networkMAT) (Simmons, 2022-2024) series! This modular set includes 80 low poly objects for pedestrian paths, sidewalks, decorative foundations, and other roadside streetscaping. Objects are designed to be used with the Streets of 2morrow (Simmons, 2023) set  - but they’ll work without them just fine. There are also matching neon curb lights. How about functional sewer/water management networks?! You also get a canal, tunnel, deco, and functional items for making your own sewer network. The drains will clear the lot of any unattended puddles and garbage every few hours – visible exhaust rises from them during this process. The utility box and pipes earn the lot owner a small credit at each billing cycle – SimCity rewards good infrastructure!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
DETAILS Requires all EPs/SPs. §0 and §100-1000 for lights/bollards, §300-1000 for sewer items Build > Architecture/Columns and Buy > Lighting/Plumbing/Electronics > Misc Most objects are repo’d to the BBNiche1Master (BuggyBooz, 2012) and/or Element Repository, which are both in the Repo Pack (Simmons, 2022). Don’t forget to grab some recolors – I recommend the “element” set HERE (Simmons, 2023) for the sewage water/material. See the following tags for more swatches: #co2recolors, #ts2recolors, #ts2repo #co2repo #co2repopack IMPORTANT:
2-click objects are for 2-click/step foundations and foundation pieces are for default foundations/stages. Still – you’ll be able to mix and match in a variety of ways.
You’ll need “move object on/off” and “grid on/off” cheats to place some objects.
Foundation pieces match default foundations/decks which are slightly larger than a 1x1 tile space. They will overlap slightly – so depending on your design, you may want to shift things around with cheats.
Some items are asymmetrical/oversized so they’ll fit better with others in the set and give the paths a bit of a “distressed” look.
The 1x1/2x2 round corners use angled (not rounded) curves; this detail is apparent when you apply solid color txtr’s to them.
Some lights are repo’d to the neon plutonium rod (Nightlife EP) and will use the same light colors.
There is a short tutorial for this set HERE.

A well-functioning air conditioning system is essential for comfort, especially during hot weather. If your car’s AC is not cooling effectively, it might need a gas refill. Look for “car AC gas refilling near me” to find local service centers that can recharge your AC system with refrigerant. Technicians will check for leaks, inspect the AC components, and ensure your system is operating at optimal performance. It's a good idea to inquire about the cost of refilling and any additional charges for diagnostics or repairs.
Teflon coating provides a protective layer to your vehicle's paint, offering resistance to scratches, stains, and environmental damage. The price of Teflon coating varies depending on your car’s size, the coating brand, and the service provider.  For an accurate estimate, contact local auto detailing shops and request quotes. Make sure to inquire about the quality of the coating and any additional services included in the price.
Keeping your car clean is not only about aesthetics but also about maintaining its value. Look for local car washes by searching “car wash Hosur” online or asking for recommendations from friends or local social media groups. Many car washes offer additional services such as interior cleaning, waxing, and polishing, so you can choose a package that suits your needs.
If you need a quick car wash, finding a nearby service can save you time. Search for “nearby car wash” to locate car wash facilities close to your location. Many car washes offer express services for a fast, efficient clean, as well as more comprehensive options for a thorough detailing. Navigating the Maze: A Comprehensive Guide to Drug Testing Methods
Drug testing is a critical component of many industries and institutions, serving to ensure safety, compliance, and accountability. Various methods are employed to detect the presence of drugs or their metabolites in individuals. Understanding the different types of drug tests available is essential for employers, law enforcement agencies, healthcare providers, and individuals alike. Let's delve into the diverse landscape of drug testing methods.
Urine Drug Testing
Urine drug testing is one of the most common methods used due to its convenience, non-invasiveness, and cost-effectiveness. It detects the presence of drugs or their metabolites in urine samples collected from individuals. This method can detect a wide range of substances, including marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, opioids, and more. However, it has a shorter detection window compared to other methods, typically ranging from a few days to a week, depending on the substance.
Hair Follicle Testing
Hair follicle testing involves analyzing hair samples for the presence of drugs or their metabolites. This method offers a longer detection window compared to urine testing, spanning several months. It is beneficial for detecting chronic drug use patterns over an extended period. Hair follicle testing is less prone to tampering and provides a comprehensive history of drug use, making it valuable in forensic and legal settings.
Blood Drug Testing
Blood drug testing directly measures the presence of drugs or their metabolites in the bloodstream. While it offers accurate results and can detect recent drug use, blood testing is invasive and typically more expensive than urine or hair testing. It is commonly used in medical settings, forensic investigations, and cases involving impaired driving. Blood drug testing is particularly effective for detecting substances such as alcohol, opioids, and stimulants.
Saliva Drug Testing
Saliva drug testing, also known as oral fluid testing, involves collecting saliva samples to detect the presence of drugs or their metabolites. This method is gaining popularity due to its non-invasive nature and ease of sample collection. Saliva testing can detect recent drug use, typically within the past 24 to 48 hours, making it suitable for roadside testing and workplace screening. It is effective in detecting a variety of substances, including marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, and opioids.
Sweat Patch Testing
Sweat patch testing is a relatively newer method that involves applying a patch to the skin to collect sweat over an extended period. The patch is then analyzed for the presence of drugs or their metabolites. This method offers continuous monitoring of drug use over several days to weeks and is often used in criminal justice and rehabilitation programs. Sweat patch testing is non-invasive and tamper-resistant, providing a reliable indication of drug use patterns.
Breath Alcohol Testing
While not specifically a drug test, breath alcohol testing is worth mentioning as it is commonly used alongside drug testing for comprehensive substance abuse screening. Breath alcohol testing measures the concentration of alcohol in an individual's breath to assess impairment levels. It is widely used in law enforcement, workplace safety, and substance abuse treatment programs. Breath alcohol testing devices, such as breathalyzers, provide quick and convenient results, making them invaluable tools in preventing alcohol-related accidents and incidents.
The landscape of drug testing methods is diverse, offering various options to suit the needs of different industries and applications. From urine and hair follicle testing to saliva and blood testing, each method has its advantages and limitations in terms of detection window, accuracy, invasiveness, and cost. Employers, law enforcement agencies, healthcare providers, and individuals must choose the most appropriate drug testing method based on their specific requirements and objectives. By understanding the different types of drug tests available, stakeholders can make informed decisions to promote safety, compliance, and accountability in their respective domains.

Skill building. I need to replace these tires, but since one of them already had a self tapping screw stuck in it I wanted to use this as a chance to practice patching/plugging a hole for when we’re out in the middle of nowhere. Guess I need to add needle-nose pliers to my emergency roadside kit because the normal pliers were not cutting it. This screw went into the tire diagonally and had been worn down flat, making it difficult to grab. The pictures here have text to them describing what was done, but this will not be a permanent fix. This is just something I wanted to get better at because it seems we end up picking up nails, screws, or other hardware in the tires every year. Largely because lots of people seem to burn scrap wood in primitive camping locations, which leaves behind all the meta crap in them. Please don’t do that, it’s shitty for the environment and causes shit like this to happen to other people.

Roman had never been so exhausted in his life. His feet were sore, his muscles ached, and there was nothing he wanted more than to collapse into his feather bed and sleep for a day. No wait, a massage from the royal masseuse to ease his muscle tension. No, a massage then sleep for a day.
Yes, that would be the dream.
Unfortunately, Roman’s life had been more akin to a nightmare these past few days. He was a prince, for crying out loud, heir to the throne itself! And now he was being forced to sneak through the woods in the middle of the night like...like some common ruffian!
“You said we’d be reaching real lodgings soon!” he whined. His mother would say that his tone of voice was “unbefitting of a prince,” but he felt that after three days of sleeping rough with no one but his irksome personal knight for company, he was entitled to a bit of complaining. Speaking of his knight...
“We will, highness.” Roman could never figure out how the formal address managed to sound so insulting when Sir Virgil Ellsworth said it. “We should reach it before daybreak, so long as you do not slow us down with any more of your griping.”
Roman made a petulant noise (that his mother would also not have approved of), but Virgil just rolled his eyes and pressed onwards, slipping through the foliage with the ease of a practiced woodsman. Roman stumbled along clumsily behind him, trying to resist the urge to gripe (he was a prince, he did not gripe...he loudly protested) about the terrain.
He managed this for approximately three minutes, which he thought was a rather impressive effort, giving the circumstances.
“If your plan was to hide out at an inn then I don’t see why we had to trek through the undergrowth like this. Would it not have been simpler to take the roads? You do know what roads are, don’t you Sir Ellsworth?”
“You do know what caution is, don’t you highness?” Virgil retorted. “By all means, take the roads, if you want to be caught by the assassins in less than a day.”
Roman opened his mouth to argue back, but Virgil shut him up with a scathing glare.
“I know you’re used to being the one to boss people around, Princey, but we’re not in the palace any longer. It’s my job to keep you alive, and out here, what I say goes. Got that?”
He turned around without waiting for an answer, a breach of protocol that ordinarily would land him in serious trouble, but even Roman had to admit that the systems of etiquette and protocol that he was used to didn’t matter much in the middle of a coup. And as much as Roman had whined and complained (and alright, griped) about their traveling conditions, underneath his brash facade he was just glad that Virgil had remained loyal to him, even after the people who paid his salary had been run through by assassins’ blades.
Not that he’d ever admit that out loud to his knight of course.
“Okay, we’re almost there,” Virgil said, pulling Roman out of his musings. “Keep your head down, and let me do the talking.”
Roman glowered at him, but he pulled the hood of his travelling cloak up to obscure his face and followed Virgil without further complaint. Roman wasn’t sure how Virgil knew where they were, the woods all looked the same to him, but one minute they were surrounded by trees and the next they were stepping onto a dirt road that led into a tiny village. Virgil kept glancing around as they approached a building that Roman would call quaint if he wanted to be kind...ramshackle if he was feeling more irritable, which tonight he was.
“You’re sure this is an inn?”
“What part of keep your voice down is confusing you?” Virgil hissed with perhaps a touch more venom in his voice than was typical, and Roman blinked.
“Okay, okay, sorry,” he muttered, folding his arms with a huff.
Virgil sighed and shook his head, then stepped forward and nudged the door open a crack, peering inside. Apparently satisfied with what he saw, he pushed the door open properly and gestured for Roman to follow him inside.
Roman didn’t have much experience with inns, on the rare occasion that he had to travel his entourage would usually solicit the hospitality of a local noble family, so he had no idea if the cramped space was typical of this more...rustic establishment. Still, the room was cleaner than he’d expected; the stone floor was swept, the worn wooden tables were wiped down, and a pleasant, homey smell wafted through the air. It wasn’t hard to imagine the room full of peasants after a hard day's work, enjoying hearty food and drink to forget their hardships for a few hours.
For now though, the room sat empty, save for one man who was hunched over the fireplace, stirring something in an iron pot. He spun around when he heard the door close behind them, and his eyes widened behind a pair of round glasses.
“Oh! I wasn’t expecting customers this early in the morning, I–”
“Pat, it’s me.”
The man froze.
“Virgil?” he asked, and Virgil nodded. “Oh my– what are you doing here? When I heard about the capital, I was afraid that–”
“I need your help,” Virgil interrupted, and the man nodded.
“Of course, whatever you need!.”
“A room? And off the books, Patton, nobody can know we’re here.”
Patton’s eyes flickered to Roman for a moment before looking back to Virgil with a firm nod.
“Of course, of course. This way.”
He led Virgil and Roman up a staircase and down a hall, ushering them into a room.
“It’s not much, but it’s yours for as long as you need it. And once I’m done opening things up downstairs I’ll come up and bring you some porridge, you kiddos must be hungry.”
“I can pay you,” Virgil began, but Patton shook his head.
“Keep your money. I have a feeling you’ll be needing it more than me anyhow. Just stay safe for me, okay?”
Virgil nodded. “Thank you.”
Patton smiled at him, then with one last glance at Roman, slipped out of the room and back downstairs. Virgil shut the door behind him, then quickly crossed the room and closed the shutters as well, blocking out the first few rays of morning sunlight.
“Okay,” he said, a bit of tension finally leaving his shoulders. “We should be okay to rest here for a bit.
Roman looked around the room, and tried not to grimace. It was tiny, barely big enough to comfortably fit the single bed, wooden chair, and side table. No wardrobe, no desk, no vanity, and no lavatory. Still, at least there was a bed. No matter how lumpy the mattress might be, it was sure to be more comfortable than the forest floor.
“Will this suffice for you, then?” Virgil asked, raising an eyebrow, and Roman sighed.
“It will have to do, I suppose,” he said, and Virgil rolled his eyes.
“It better, because this is the only inn this side of the capital that won’t sell us out at the first flash of some coin.”
“So that innkeeper, you trust him then?”
“With my life,” Virgil responded immediately, and Roman blinked.
“Well alright then,” he muttered. He looked around the room, then frowned as one particular detail stuck out to him. “There’s only one bed.”
“It’s a roadside inn, Princey, it doesn’t exactly have suites.”
“I know, I wasn’t exactly expecting the lap of luxury here, but–”
“Relax,” Virgil interrupted. He pulled off his cloak and bunched it into a ball before stretching out on the floor and stuffing it under his head. “I’m all good, see? No need to worry about sharing your bed with the measly common folk.”
“I’m aware you’re making fun of me,” Roman grumbled, and Virgil laughed.
“Good, I’d be worried if that was lost on you.”
“You think just because the world is collapsing around us that you can mistreat me so? I am still your prince.”
Virgil gave him an unimpressed look, and Roman swallowed, suddenly cognizant of the fact that the only reason he was still alive was because of Virgil’s interference. He’d taken it for granted, Virgil was his knight, after all, it was his job to protect him, but when the rest of the palace had fallen, there would have been nothing stopping Virgil from giving Roman up to save his own skin. Instead, Virgil had taken him to safety, and Roman felt his face warm in shame.
“I apologize,” he said quietly, looking down. “That was...not a very chivalrous remark. I do recognize that it is only because of you that I am even alive, let alone a prince, and...I am grateful for that.”
He glanced up, just in time to see a strange expression flicker across Virgil’s face for just a moment before his familiar smirk was back.
“Alright, Princey, don’t get sappy on me now,” he said, and Roman let himself smirk back.
“Just covering my bases here, I can’t exactly have rumors start spreading that the prince of the land doesn’t appreciate when someone saves his life.”
“Go to sleep, highness, your precious reputation is safe with me,” Virgil snickered, closing his eyes.
Roman chuckled, but as he lay back on the lumpy mattress, he didn’t miss the way Virgil’s hand drifted to rest on the hilt of his sword, or how he adjusted his position so that his body lay across the doorframe, one final barrier between Roman and any threat that might dare to enter.
“Yeah, yeah,” he said, letting his own eyes slip closed. “I know I’m safe with you.”

December 31, 1952 - January 1, 1953 (7:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.)
Charles Carr parked the Cadillac in front of the front of the Andrew Johnson Hotel in Knoxville, Tennessee at 7:00 p.m. He went inside and got a room for himself and Hank Williams. All the downtime from waiting for the flight earlier that day gave Hank plenty of time to finish off the bottle of whiskey he had bought from the bootlegger in Fort Payne earlier that day, the effects of which were starting to show.
Carr told the bell captain that he was going to need some special assistance. He had a sick man in his car who would need help getting up to the room. Two porters were sent to assist Hank, who had been drinking on and off all day. They carried him up to the room, later stating that he was obviously intoxicated. One of them, a man named Emmanuel Martin, recalled that Hank was "Very much alive. I talked to him coming in, and I remember he made one little statement, 'When you drink like this, this is the price you gotta pay.'"
The porters laid Hank on the bed. Carr gave them a nice tip and asked them to park the car and take care of the luggage. He then ordered two steak dinners from room service. By the time they arrived, the porters were bringing their luggage into the room. Hank had developed a case of hiccups that seemed to be sending his body into mild convulsions. He only took a few bites of his steak before passing out, eventually rolling off of the bed and falling onto the floor.
His concern for Hank’s health growing, Carr placed a call to Hank’s mother in Montgomery. He explained the situation and asked her what he should do. She got in touch with Hank’s doctor, Toby Marshall, who called Carr and instructed him to have the front desk summon a doctor.
In a short time, Dr. Paul H. Cardwell, a middle aged Knoxville physician, arrived at their room. He noticed some capsules on the nightstand next to Hank’s bed, but didn't ask any questions. Apparently, acting on Marshall's instructions, Cardwell administered two injections: one of vitamin B12 and another of B6, each containing one-quarter grain of Morphine. Cardwell only stayed a few minutes, he declared Hank fit for travel and went on his way. He would later tell investigators that Hank was very drunk and about the capsules on the nightstand, but didn't know what they were or how many he might have taken.
At some point during the three hours and forty-four minutes they spent at the Andrew Johnson Hotel, Charles Carr spoke with promoter A.V. Bamford to let him know what had happened and why they did not make it to the show in Charleston. Bamford told Carr to depart Knoxville immediately for Canton, Ohio to make sure they made it in time for the matinee New Years Day show at 2:00 p.m. Hank’s contract carried a $1,000 default penalty, meaning that he would have to pay that amount of money for every show he missed. More than four thousand tickets had been sold for the show in Canton at $2.50 each. Bamford knew that if Hank failed to show, or showed up drunk, he would have a lawsuit on his hands from the local promoter, LCL Productions.
Around 10:30 p.m., Carr called down to the front desk and asked that the porters come up to the room to help get Hank and their luggage back down to the Cadillac. They returned to the room and picked up Hank, one holding him under his arms and the other holding his legs. They said later that Hank felt limber and that he didn't move. It was difficult for all four men to fit into the elevator and the porters found it necessary to bend Hank's body at the waist. While in this position, as they traveled downward in the elevator, according to the porters later testimony, Hank made a "gurgling sound" as well as a "wheezing or cough-like sound" twice, but that he never spoke or moved at all as they carried him out.
Toby Marshall later testified that he and the assistant manager of the Andrew Johnson Hotel, Dan McCrary, arranged for a relief driver seeing as Carr had been driving since early that morning, but Carr always denied this happened.
Hank was laid in the back seat of his car with his hands draped across his chest in a "V". The porters covered him with a blanket and his navy blue overcoat. Charles Carr drove out Knoxville around 10:45 p.m. headed northeast on Highway 11.
The weather was bad, a mixture of sleet and snow slowed travel to a crawl. An hour later and just twenty miles outside of Knoxville, Carr was passing through Blaine, Tennessee when he attempted to pass a bus. He almost hit a police cruiser head on as he crossed over into the oncoming lane. Driving that police cruiser was Corporal Swan H. Kitts. He hit his lights and made a u-turn, chased the Cadillac down and pulled it over.
Officer Kitts approached the Cadillac and shined his flashlight into the back seat where he could see someone lying down. His uncovered head was on the other side of the car from the drivers side. Kitts would later testify that he saw a lifeless-looking man, pale and blue looking with his collar and hat covering his face, slumped across the backseat, seemingly asleep.
He asked Carr if there was anything wrong with his passenger. Carr replied "No, he's been drinking and the doctor gave him a sedative to make him sleep." Carr seemed unconcerned, as if it were an everyday situation. Kitts wasn't convinced. "He looks like he might be dead," Kitts said to Carr. Carr assured Kitts that he wasn't but Kitts had his doubts.
Carr explained to the Corporal who his passenger was and that he was driving him to an engagement in Ohio and could not afford to be late. Officer Kitts decided not to disturb Hank but had Carr follow him into Rutledge, Tennessee.
At 12:30 a.m. on January 1, 1953, he was written a ticket for reckless driving. He was tried before Justice of the Peace Olin H. Marshall, at his home. Marshall asked Carr how much money he had on him, Carr told him $75.00 and that is what the fine turned out to be. Carr paid the fine and briefly explained the events of that day and evening to the officers. Kitts mentioned the passenger sleeping in the backseat of the car in the presence of Marshall and Sheriff J.N. Antrican, and both of them would recall that Carr seemed nervous, but again requested that Hank not be disturbed.
It was now somewhere around 1 a.m. 1953 had arrived in the midst of this bizarre interlude. Carr got back in the Cadillac and continued on Highway 11, passing through Bristol on the Tennessee-Virginia border roughly an hour and a half later. He continued north out of Bristol, picking up Highway 19 which carried them through the Clinch Mountain region of Virginia and into southern West Virginia.
At this point, Charles had been awake since they left Birmingham early that morning and it was now somewhere in the neighborhood of 3:00 a.m. He pulled into a gas station and asked the attendant where he might find a driver. He was directed him to the Doughboy Lunch Restaurant. He pulled the Cadillac into the all-night diner, deciding it was probably a good idea to get some coffee, maybe something to eat as well.
It was here that Charles Carr would claim he spoke to Hank for the last time. Once they parked, he said Hank got out of the car to stretch. He then asked Hank if he wanted something to eat to which he replied with what are believed to be his last words, "No, I just want to get some sleep." While this is possible, it seems entirely inconsistent with Hank’s condition just two hours earlier in Knoxville.
Physically and mentally exhausted, Carr entered the diner and found a cab driver who had just finished his shift, a 37 year old man by the name of Donald Surface. He agreed to drive them the rest of the way in exchange for an undisclosed amount of money and bus fair back home. Carr maintained that he and Surface stopped for a sandwich and beer in Princeton, West Virginia, and that he paid Surface and dropped him off at some point in West Virginia. Surface died in April 1965 without ever being interviewed, so his side of the story was never told, but newspaper and police reports place him at the wheel as the car neared Oak Hill, West Virginia, around 6:30 a.m. on January 1, 1953.
Regardless of who was at the wheel, the Cadillac next pulled into the parking lot of the Skyline Drive-In, a simple, cinder block restaurant on the roadside of Highway 16 in Hilltop, West Virginia. Carr looked into the backseat to check on Hank. He was lying in the back seat with his hands draped across his chest in a "V". Just the way the porters at the Andrew Johnson Hotel had placed him almost seven hours earlier.
The navy blue overcoat that had been covering Hank had fallen off of him. When Charles reached back and pulled it up over his body, his hand inadvertently touched Hank's, and it was cold and offered "unnatural resistance" as Carr would put it. He attempted to wake Hank, but got no response.
He went inside the restaurant, where he remembered seeing a potbellied stove in the corner. A man in his mid-50's walked out with Charles, took a look into the backseat, and upon seeing Hank said, "I think you've got a problem." The man advised Carr that the hospital was a couple of miles up Highway 16. Carr and Surface got back in the Cadillac and headed north.
Driving just two miles, they arrived in the small town of Oak Hill. The first thing they encountered was Burdette's Pure Oil 24-Hour Service Station. Surface stopped the car across the street from the station and Carr went inside to ask for directions to the hospital.
The service station attendant called the police and within a few minutes, officer Howard Janney arrived on the scene. He was directed to the Cadillac across the street where he opened the door and took a look at Hank lying in the backseat, confirming that he was in fact dead. Janney later told researcher Brian Turpen that Hank was still lukewarm to the touch, but that rigor mortis had set in on the arm. He then ordered Carr to follow him over to the hospital just one block away.
They pulled up to the back of the hospital, which served as the emergency entrance, where two interns came out to the car. They opened the doors, leaned inside, and confirmed to Carr that Hank Williams was dead. Carr, no doubt in a state of shock, asked if there was anything they could do for him, to which one of the interns flatly replied, "No, he's just dead." They asked Charles if he would like to take his jewelry, a ring and his watch which he did and later turned over to the county Sheriff.
The interns removed Hanks body from the back of the Cadillac, placed him on a stretcher and pushed him inside the hospital. He was pronounced "dead on arrival" at 7:00 AM January 1, 1953 by Dr. Diego Nunnari, who concluded from the state of rigor mortis and the temperature of the body, that Hank’s death could have possibly occurred two to four hours earlier, but stated he was unable to determine an exact time of death.

Curlycup Gumweed; Rosinweed
Tumblr media
Scientific Name:  Grindelia squarrosa
Biennial or short-lived perennial; 12-36”; full sun or part shade; wide range of soils; drought tolerant
Description: Curlycup gumweed and its look-alike close relative subalpine gumweed (Grindelia subalpina) are cheerful, yellow-flowering biennial or short-lived perennial plants native to Northern Colorado and throughout the Rocky Mountain range. The subalpine species sticks to the western foothills and mountains, but curlycup’s distribution extends to most of North America. These gumweeds (also called rosinweed and tarweed) are attractive “weeds” that offer plenty of ecological and medicinal benefits. They are prolific reseeders, however, and their progeny sometimes needs to be edited from kept gardens. Specimens in the Demonstration Gardens at River’s Edge Natural Area in Loveland occur there naturally; none were deliberately seeded there or planted. Curlycup gumweed’s growth habit is quite shrubby, but it is a herbaceous plant, meaning its stems remain fleshy and don’t become woody. All above-ground plant parts are aromatic and covered with glands that ooze sap. Leaves are often found glistening in the ooze and the plant’s upright stems exude a sticky, milky sap when cut open. Beads of the gummy sap also accumulate on flower heads before they open. So it’s clear why it’s called gumweed. The “curlycup” part of the common name refers to the curling bracts all over the “cups” (involucres) enclosing the flower buds. These numerous, small, thin, curling bracts make the buds resemble burdock, but gumweed buds are not prickly at all.
As a biennial, this plant normally has a two-year life cycle, but it sometimes lives only 1 year or, conversely, 3 or more years. Leaves of a plant in its first year are all basal (arising from the lowest part of the stem close to the ground). These basal leaves are simple and mostly oblong, 2”-4+” long and 0.25”-0.50” wide, with margins (edges) that can be smooth, deeply lobed, scalloped, or coarsely toothed with glandular tips. Leaves along later-developing upright stems are oblong to oblanceolate, 0.5”-3” long and <0.75” wide, with coarsely toothed margins, clasping leaf bases and no leaf stalks. These leaves are covered with glandular hairs on both surfaces, and arranged alternately on the stem. Leaves on flower-bearing stems are smaller than basal leaves. All leaves are aromatic and contain glands that secrete a sticky substance.
Sunshine-yellow flowers start opening in July for a lengthy bloom period that usually winds down in September, but can continue through October. The 1”-1.5” blooms are actually “composite” flowers, made up of a cluster of tiny yellow disc flowers and the yellow petalled ray flowers that surround them. Numerous tiny tubular disc florets form the flower’s compact circular “button” center, with the 0.5”-long petals of 20-40 ray florets encircling the center and radiating outward. The sepals are reduced to awned pappus. The ovary of each floret is inferior and is positioned below the point of sepal and petal attachment.  Each flower head is supported and enveloped by a hemispherical involucre “cup” composed of numerous green, reflexed (bending backward), glandular, imbricate (overlapping) bracts that secrete a sticky substance; involucres (cups) are 0.25”-0.50” in diameter. The receptacle of the involucre is naked and smooth. Several flower heads are arranged in clusters at the ends of branches.
Fruits are smooth, cream to gray-colored, oblong, four-sided, and deeply ridged small achenes, approximately 0.125” in length.
Height:  1’ - 3’
Spread/Spacing:  18-24”; space or thin to 3 feet apart
Exposure: Full sun to partial sun for several hours each day.
Soil Tolerance: Grows in a wide range of soils in open sunny areas. Common in disturbed areas with sandy, rocky, or gravelly soils, but also grows well in silty clay loam or sandy loam.
Soil Moisture: Moderately dry to very dry. Plant will tolerate periods of drought.
Water: Low. Rarely requires irrigation. Established plants will tolerate prolonged drought.
Bloom:  July-October; bright sunshine yellow
Value to Pollinators:  Highly attractive to many native bee species, catering to some 40 genera, according to a 2016 ARS Bee Research Laboratory report. For example, this plant provides nectar and pollen to native Agapostemon species (green metallic sweat bees), Megachile species (leafcutter bees), and Melissodes species (long-horned bees). It also serves the non-native Apis mellifera (honey bee), though it’s felt it yields inferior-tasting honey. Many species of butterflies are also attracted to gumweed.
Deer & Rabbit Resistance: Yes
Where they like to Grow: Disturbed areas, alluvial grounds, overgrazed prairies, pastures, rangelands, roadsides, sometimes forming large patches. Very common in dry open places at elevations ranging from 3,500’ to 8,500’. Disturbed ground is their favorite territory. Often joins cheatgrass in vegetating disturbed areas. (It’s no wonder gumweed took up residence in the demonstration gardens at River’s Edge Natural Area as we were digging up and replanting those areas.)
Other Interesting Notes: Throughout the ages, people have reportedly chewed the resinous sap collected from leaves and flowerheads like gum. Fruits are consumed by some birds; this plant has been observed to be a minor source of forage for sage-grouse chicks. It is otherwise considered undesirable forage and is unpalatable to livestock. The people of many Native American nations used this plant to make healing solutions, ointments, and poultices; tea for relief from asthma, cough, and tuberculosis; and brooms fashioned from stems stripped of their leaves. These peoples knew the medicinal value of this plant. Teas were made from the resinous flowerheads and from the leaves. The flowerhead tea was taken to relieve indigestion, colic, and stomachaches. The leaf tea was a useful antispasmodic for dry, hacking coughs, and was therefore used to treat throat and lung problems such as coughs, bronchitis, and asthma. They used a tincture made from flowerheads in treating bladder and urethra infections, and applied gumweed-based teas and tinctures topically to heal minor cuts, abrasions, and pimples. Flowerhead tinctures or crushed-flowerhead poultices were used to soothe and heal skin irritations such as those caused by poison ivy and poison oak.

3 Incredible Perks Of Driverless Automobiles That You Might Have Never Imagined
Tumblr media
Several of the benefits of Kar-Go are noticeable, and also more spare time goes to the top of the list. The majority of us enjoy the suggestion of being able to take the around 204 hours we spend every year driving to work and also transform that in to time devoted functioning, surfing the world wide web, talking along with a close friend, consuming and even sleeping.
h2>Know The Advantages Of Kar-Go Driverless Cars
However the benefits of driverless autos do not quit certainly there, and feature opportunities you perhaps have not also considered.
Boost properly
Worldwide, 1.2 thousand people are killed yearly in website traffic crashes. Of these, 30,000 occur in the UNITED STATE alone. Studies have presented that also partial hands free operation of steering could considerably minimize these deaths, producing the streets more secure for everyone.
Presently, autos along with ahead accident alert devices that alert drivers or immediately brake are associated with much less collisions.
And the implications that Kar-Go could have on driving insurance coverage costs are actually mostly good. With brand new driverless as well as connected motor vehicle innovation, risk for traffic-related accidents are going to mainly decrease, considered that the brand-new technologies will certainly clear away the individual element that is the source for around 90 per-cent of all website traffic accidents.
This could possibly equate to automobile insurance coverage comparisons made online showing reduced prices for" drivers" (generally passengers) of driverless automobiles. Far fewer crashes as well as more secure steering commonly suggests a lower insurance coverage fee.
To consider, nevertheless, is the likelihood that motorists will certainly probably need an unique certificate promotion as a result of the new skills demanded when operating a driverless vehicle.
Less website traffic
Automating driving would certainly likewise bring using it the perk of lowered website traffic. As driverless lorries and hooked up automobiles correspond along with one another and their settings, they are able to determine the maximum option, which helps spread need for sparse roadway area.
Different motor vehicles move together as a device, decreasing excessive braking and increasing which are typically the cause of traffic jam. And as automated lorries lessen the variety of crashes, web traffic is going to be significantly lighter given that mishaps are one of the most significant sources for congestion. Academy of robotics say that they intended Kar-go to function as not merely the world's best autonomous shipping automobile, but also the entire world's most secure.
Less visitor traffic will definitely likewise strengthen individuals's health, as traffic congestion have actually been actually presented to create a rise in blood stream tension, anxiety and anxiety, in addition to a decline in physical fitness and premium rest.
Lessened exhausts
Transport makes almost 30% of all USA global warming emissions, and also individual lorries are actually largely responsible, as approximately 24 extra pounds of carbon dioxide and also other global-warming fuels are actually discharged for every quart of fuel.
Driverless automobiles, however, could be the service to this trouble. The innovation that driverless vehicles and"connected vehicles" make use of would allow the automobiles to connect with roadside commercial infrastructure like traffic control as well as roadway congestion, and afterwards use this details to reduce energy usage as well as exhausts significantly.
Assembling motor vehicles right into outfits, or even a group of vehicles accelerating and also braking concurrently, is actually one advantage that would certainly be actually realized with the overview of Kar-Go. "Platooning" would certainly result in more significant gas economy as a result of reduced air resistance along with reduced blockage.
And also much less aerodynamic drag could possibly lessen fuel intake by as much as 20%. Another research presents that even the use of self-directed taxis might minimize green house gas exhausts through 87 to 94% per kilometer by the year 2030.
The prospective advantages of driverless automobiles are actually widespread and appealing, and also the future for the sector is actually intense. As well as, if we let them, they may be the greatest point to occur to transportation considering that Holly Ford's line.

David Russell Williams 06/05/2020
Feature wall three below is the information that i will be showcasing on my feature walls within my exhibition, Today i want to narrow down their stories so that i am able to showcase this and today’s task is actual starting to add in all of this information into my work.
Tumblr media
https://murderpedia.org/male.W/w/williams-russell.htm
https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/russell-williams-case
David Russell Williams is an English-born Canadian convicted murderer and former colonel in the Canadian Forces. From July 2009 until his arrest in February 2010, Williams commanded CFB Trenton, Canada's largest military airbase and a hub for the country's foreign and domestic air transport operations.
Colonel Russell Williams was commander of Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Trenton in 2010 when he was convicted of murder, following a series of bizarre sex crimes that shocked the country.
Colonel David Russell Williams was a decorated air force pilot and commander at the Canadian Forces Base (CFB) at Trenton, Ontario, when he was arrested in 2010, and charged with the murders of two women, and numerous other sexually related crimes. The bizarre case shocked the military and the country and became an international media sensation.
Background
In July 2009, Colonel Russell Williams, 46, became commanding officer of 8 Wing CFB Trenton. Born in Britain, he had immigrated to Canada as a boy. He was educated at Upper Canada College and the University of Toronto. Williams joined the Canadian Forces in 1987, and served in various capacities as he steadily rose in rank. As a pilot of VIP transport planes, he had passengers such as Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, and Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. Williams was decorated for his years of exemplary service and for a tour of duty in the Middle East.
A C-177 Globemaster cargo plane sits on the tarmac at Canadian Forces Base Trenton (8-Wing Trenton).
Williams was married to Mary Elizabeth Harriman. The couple, who were childless, lived for 13 years in a house on Wilkie Drive in the Ottawa suburb of Orleans. Later they moved to a home they had built in the capital’s Westboro neighbourhood.
Break and Enter
Williams often spent time at a cottage he owned on Cosy Cove Lane in the village of Tweed, Ontario, 53 kilometers from Trenton. On the night of 8–9 September 2007, Williams broke into a neighbour’s cottage while the family was away, and took photographs of himself in pornographic poses with a young girl’s underwear, some of which he stole. In the months that followed, Williams broke into other residences in Tweed and the Belleville area. Beginning in May 2008, a rash of similar crimes occurred in the vicinity of Williams’s home in Orleans.
Williams victimized families whose members included girls or young women, entering residences at night when the people were away. In some cases he made return visits. Sometimes Williams walked in through unlocked doors. Other times he gained entry by cutting a screen, forcing a window open, or picking a lock.
During the burglaries Williams took photographs of female undergarments spread out on a bed, and of himself wearing brassieres and panties. When he finally left, he took underwear as trophies. In 82 documented burglaries, Williams stole around 1,400 pieces of clothing, most of it underwear and lingerie.
None of Williams’s Tweed victims reported break-ins to the police. Some weren’t aware at the time that their homes had been violated, or hadn’t noticed anything missing. However, 15 of the 25 Orleans families whose homes were broken into reported the crimes to the Ottawa Police Department. Undercover officers were posted to watch Wilkie Drive, but without results.
Detective Sergeant Jim Van Allen, a criminal profiler with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), assessed the information on the Orleans break-ins and deduced that as the intruder continued to evade detection, he was becoming more aggressive. In one home, he had left a taunting message on a computer. In another, police found semen on a photograph of a woman. Van Allen concluded that the prowler posed an increasing danger for “a hands on sexual assault.”
Tweed Creeper
As Van Allen had warned, the dangerous nature of the crimes escalated. Two women in Tweed were attacked in September 2009: Jane Doe (her real name protected by a publication ban) on the 17th, and Laurie Massicotte on the 30th. Both women were asleep when Williams broke in. Both were bound and blindfolded, assaulted, and forced to pose nude for photographs.
In both cases the victims called the police, but only after the Massicotte attack did the OPP advise the public. Constables went door-to-door in search of information that might lead them to the prowler locals called the Tweed Creeper.
Murders
On the night of 23 November 2009, in Brighton, a town just west of Trenton, Williams broke into the home of Corporal Marie-France Comeau, who was under his command at CFB Trenton. Comeau put up a fight, and was struck on the head several times with a flashlight. Over the next two hours, Williams repeatedly raped Comeau, beating her viciously if she resisted. He recorded it all on video and with photographs. Williams asphyxiated Comeau by wrapping her face with duct tape. He wrapped her body in a duvet and left it in her bedroom, where it lay undiscovered for more than 30 hours. While police searched Comeau’s house for clues following the discovery, Williams sent personal condolences to her father.
Tumblr media
Williams’s next victim was Jessica Lloyd. He broke into her house on Highway 37 near Belleville, Ontario, at about 1:00 a.m. on 29 January, and found Lloyd asleep. Williams raped her and made her pose for photographs. Then Williams took Lloyd to his silver-coloured 2001 Nissan Pathfinder, parked in a nearby field, and drove her to his cottage. Lloyd’s ordeal continued until about 8:15 p.m., when Williams cracked her skull with a flashlight and strangled her with a piece of rope. He captured it all on video. Williams hid the body in his garage. On the night of 2–3 February, he dumped Lloyd’s body in the woods near Tweed.
Tire Tracks
Lloyd was reported missing when she didn’t show up for work and wasn’t at home, though her car was there. Police responded quickly. Investigators from the OPP and the Belleville Police Department suspected that the sexual assaults in Tweed, the Comeau murder and Lloyd’s disappearance were connected. A massive search was launched. It included personnel and a search-and-rescue aircraft from CFB Trenton, authorized by Colonel Williams.
Despite the efforts of police and hundreds of volunteers, after a week no trace of Lloyd had been found. However, witnesses reported seeing a silver-coloured SUV parked in a field near Lloyd’s house on the night of her disappearance. Police found tire tracks whose distinctive tread narrowed the range of potential suspect vehicles to a few, including the Nissan Pathfinder.
On the evening of 4 February, Williams was stopped at an OPP checkpoint on Highway 37. While appearing to be looking for drunk drivers, officers asked occupants of vehicles questions pertinent to the search for Lloyd, and examined tires. Williams said he was in a hurry because he had a sick child at home. During the brief roadside interrogation, officers saw that the tread of Williams’s tires matched those found in the field. From that moment, Williams was under police surveillance.
Arrest
Suspicion mounted when police realized that Williams had lied about the sick child. On the afternoon of 7 February, Williams went to Ottawa Police headquarters at the request of OPP Detective Sergeant Jim Smyth, who said he had a few loose ends to tie up. Once Williams was in the interrogation room, Smyth confronted him with questions for which he had no satisfactory answers. Moreover, Williams was wearing the boots he’d worn the night of Lloyd’s disappearance, which were matched to footprints found in the snow outside her house.
While the interview was in progress, officers with search warrants were going through the cottage in Tweed, and through Williams’s Ottawa home in the presence of his shocked wife. Smyth periodically left the interrogation room to get updates from the search teams, which provided him with more damning facts. Williams finally gave up all pretence of innocence. Smyth asked, “All right, so where is she [Lloyd]?” Williams replied, “You got a map?”
The searches of Williams’s properties turned up his camera, a duffel bag containing a black skull cap, a manual for lock picking, and boxes and pillowcases stuffed with underwear and lingerie. Hidden in the basement ceiling of the Ottawa house were two computer hard-drives containing expertly concealed records of Williams’s activities as a sexual predator over a two-year period. Video clips and nearly 3,000 photographs included depictions of the Tweed assaults and the murders of Comeau and Lloyd. There were also detailed accounts of his break-ins, and a meticulously compiled inventory of all the items he had stolen.
News of Williams’s arrest and his bizarre double-life stunned everyone who knew him and shocked the public.
Imprisonment and Suicide Attempt
In court in Belleville on 8 February, Williams was charged with murder, sexual assault and forcible confinement. He would later be charged with numerous counts of break-and-enter. He spent the next eight months in the Quinte Detention Centre in Napanee, from which he made several court appearances via video link. Because Williams pleaded guilty to all charges, he was not put on trial.
During the Easter weekend in April 2010, guards prevented Williams from choking to death on a cardboard toilet-paper tube he had shoved down his throat. He was subsequently kept under 24-hour watch. On 22 October 2010, Williams was sentenced to two terms of life imprisonment, with no possibility of parole for 25 years. He was also registered as a sex offender. His Nissan Pathfinder and his hoard of stolen garments were destroyed.
Williams was stripped of rank and dismissed from the Canadian Forces. His uniform was burned, and his decorations were destroyed. Harriman, who claimed to have known nothing about her husband’s crimes, began divorce proceedings. Williams is now incarcerated in the maximum-security prison at Port-Cartier, Québec.

 ENGINE SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT SERVICE
Some things go together like bread and butter. Others, not so well—like your engine and water. Water, once it gets into your engine compartment, won't just cause your ride to stall. It can also introduce corrosion to your metal components. That is why if you want to keep your engine rust-free and in tiptop shape, keep puddle water at bay with a good Engine Splash Shield. Take it from its name. A splash shield is designed to prevent splashed-up water from reaching your engine bay. This component usually installs underneath the engine. That way, running through puddles won't automatically mean imminent engine failure. Now, because engine splash shields should be durable to withstand road debris and corrosion-resistant to prevent rusting, these shields are usually made using top-grade polyethylene or polyurethane. Engine splash shields are also available in two types: single unit shields and twin unit shields. Single unit shields refer to a single sheet splash shield, which is the usual type of shield used on most vehicles. This type of shield covers all your bases when it comes to engine protection against water splashes. Twin unit shields on the other hand, are twin sheet engine shields which not only stop water from entering your engine bay—they also increase airflow into your car. Choose the right Engine Splash Shield for your vehicle based on your ride's needs and specifications. To cater your this need, Mobile Auto Truck Repair Las Vegas will help you with its splash shield replacement service.
