Okay, this is going out to the die-hard old-school Trekkies. And I’m going to be including spoilers because at this point if you haven’t been watching Prodigy yet, this is the only other way I know how to convince you to start! And even seeing spoilers won’t give you any context to the how or why they’re there, so that should hopefully give you incentive to watch the show!

For starters, what is Prodigy? Star Trek Prodigy is a 3D animated Nickelodeon show meant to introduce kids to the world of Star Trek. But don’t let the “kids show” title fool you, this is a show for ALL ages and even the most die-hard Trekkie will find something about it to enjoy.

The story centers around a group of alien kids who have been imprisoned on a mining asteroid as they stumble upon an abandoned Federation Starship and use it to escape with the hopes of one day joining Starfleet.

Are you happy that Star Trek is back but haven’t been excited or jazzed much about some of the recent shows? Then please watch Star Trek Prodigy! Here’s a visual list of things to expect to appease your continuity and cannon loving hearts:

1) The Enterprise D bridge on the holodeck, alongside Uhura, Odo, Doctor Crusher, Scotty, and Spock (using original legacy voice clips for many of the characters too)

Currently the show is on Netflix. There are two seasons, 20 episodes each season that run around 24-30 mins long each for a grand total of a whopping 40 episodes! And there’s hopes that if Netflix thinks the show is worthy a 3rd season could be ordered. But only if you watch it now and get those ratings and viewership numbers up!

Please! Prodigy needs the help! Paramount+ canceled the show and yanked it from streaming before season 2 could even air (it had already been completed too)! Through a grass-roots campaign fans were able to get Netflix to pick it up and release the second season! Without Netflix this show would’ve just disappeared!

So please… if you love old school Trek and just want to exist in this world, you’re going to love Prodigy! And trust me, even those spoilers I showcased don’t even begin to scratch the surface of what this show has to offer!

SOYI announced a surprise for all of the trainees, “for some of you that may have guessed the theme for this season’s of NOSTALGIA, we have decided to bring in some special guests for the final episode of the show. as one of the groups known for these kinds of concepts, AGITO will make an appearance and perform ‘HWEEK’. and to gain some tips from your fellow senior artists, V&A’s JIHO and YUSHIN will be visiting during the last week of practice ( sometime around MAY ) for ‘BLUE HOUR’ and ‘DO OR NOT’. i strongly recommend listening to their advice and suggestions so that on the day of the finale, all of you do their songs justice.”

My thoughts on the ninjago ages and time in between seasons. If you figure out how much time passes in between seasons, you can work out their age. First of all, I think pilot to s2 takes place in the same year, so = Kai = 17 Jay = 17 Cole = 18 Lloyd = 10/14 Nya = 15. My reasons for Lloyds age after the tea is that some people think Harumi was 12/13 around s1 so this would put them in the same bracket. Nya is canonically two years younger than Kai (its said in s7 that Nya was three and Kai was five when their parents got kidnapped) Kai seems to be near adulthood in the pilot. In during child’s play in s2, Cole says that being a kid is annoying because you can’t drive. Ninjago seems to have a lot of laws based on Japan and (correct me if I’m wrong) you can drive at 18.

Halloween 2022 Election Fight

Comtraya and Tek'ma'tek, y'all! I know we said that, come September, we would restart the twice a week showing, and bring back SGA and SGU. However, since our anniversary is coming up again, we decided to implement those changes after that.

Regarding the Anniversary viewing on Sunday 30st of October: Last year we announced that for our Anniversary viewing on Halloween, we will be starting to show two spoopy episode, with one being SGA's Whispers as per tradition, and the other episode being another spooky SGA, SG1 or SGU episode. Please reply to this post with the number of the episode in the list. The one with the most votes wins and will be shown on our Anniversary Viewing this year together with Whispers.

So the last time I got sick and ran to the store for supplies I bought extra and made myself an Emergency Sick Kit, and I know this sounds super simple and adult, but MAN it’s was such a lifesaver this week when my throat started hurtling last Thursday.

In the kit:

Canned Chicken Noodle Soup (put in bowl, put bowl in microwave, let brothy soup soothe sore throat). I’ve also snagged chicken and rice, potato soup, tomato soup, anything easily sipable or something that wouldn’t irritate my throat. 

Jello (pour in bowl, pour hot water in bowl, stir, pour cold water in bowl, stir, throw in fridge overnight, enjoy soft goodness on sore throat) (honestly, jello works better for me to relieve some of the throat ache than a lot of things)

Applesauce (decent shelf life. rotate out. pour. enjoy. fridge after opening.)

I also like oatmeal as it’s filling and easy on my throat and I can put honey in it. I never see it mentioned as a sick-food, but I like it and it lasts well. I eat it fairly regularly for breakfast so whenever I get a new box from the store I rotate the old stuff out. 

Saltines. (for the stomach upsets)

Ginger ale. (also for the stomach upsets)

Tea. (my throat and I swear by this one) (and honey if you want it)

Cough drops. (a brand you like and or find helpful. I like Ricola, personally)

Vaseline or other ointment or Chapstick (for that ow between your nose and upper lip from blowing your nose all the time)

Emergen-C. You may also want Gatorade. If you like Gatorade. Which I do not, really. You might also want just regular vitamin C.

Over the counter cold meds. You know what you like to use/what works well for you. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you’re taking other medications so there are no negative interactions. 

I also, having had sinus issues in the past, 100% recommend using a Neti-pot or other sinus rinse because MAN it helps SO MUCH. I like the squeeze bottles. 

Vicks vapo-rub. I’ve yet to try the lavender but it sounds WAY more pleasant.

Hand Sanitizer. (especially if you live with another person. sharing is not caring)

Thermometer. 

I’d also recommend any other easy-to-make foods if you’re cooking for yourself. I used the sore throat friendly foods while I had the sore throat, and then once the sickness morphed more into more congestion I went for other simples, like pb&j. 

Anyway, being sick sucks, but being sick and feeling like you need to run to the store while sick sucks more so instead of doing that just prepare with a little at a time per-grocery run and then when The Sickness Hits you’ll have an arsenal of things to feel better.

My #1 post of 2022

Librarians of tumblr, recently my (public, not school) library introduced self-checkout, which I’ve been using because pandemic. (They also have the option for no-contact-pickup, which I have also used periodically. I call in, read off my library card, and they bring my holds items out onto a table outside.)

The self-checkout is just SO easy, especially if I’m running in to pick up something I didn’t put a hold on. I just scan my card and put my books/media on a little reader and it checks them out for me and emails me my receipt.

My concern is: Will this negatively impact librarians jobs? Is it better for me to call in and do no-contact pick-up, or take my books to the front desk for a librarian to check out? Or is this a ‘no, because of pandimic your librarians probably appreciate you using the self check out, but once it stops go back to using the front desk’?

Genuinely curious because I love my librarians and my library and want to keep them around.

"due to recent development in our debuted groups, TEAM UNKNOWN and LGC GIRLS JAPAN have been impacted and some changes have been made; as such, KIM YUJIN and  LIU YUXI, you have both been selected to join CRYSTALLIS. congratulations to you both on your continued hard worK. you may join SEO YEWON who is waiting outside." once again, he pauses as the two girls leave, wishing them good luck as they leave.

LGC CHARMS JAPAN

"back when the first lineup of LGC GIRLS JAPAN was active, they had an 8 episode variety show called ‘LGC GIRLS CHARMS JAPAN’ on tv. this is quite the norm for japanese idol groups to have a permanent show on tv. we've managed to secure a new season of the show. but, there's a twist; since the show has been inactive for a while, the company has decided to capitalize on this. the show has been renamed LGC CHARMS JAPAN, and this season will have AGITO challenging to become the PERMANENT group on the show. the five of you will have to compete against your seniors to keep the show in the hands of LGC GIRLS JAPAN!"

each episode will be 20 minutes long and the comedian duo, NON STYLE, will act as hosts of the show, being in charge of deciding the winning team for most games. while the filming date are specified, airing dates are to be announced:

EPISODES 1 & 2 [ JULY 17 ]: show introduction, competition explained to the participants. mini-profile of all 9 participants and personal talent display contest  (winning team: lgc girls)

EPISODES 3 & 4 [ JULY 24 ]: iconic japanese idol songs battle. the contestants hear short snippets of each song and must guess the title and artist of the song and then sing it. song examples; love machine by morning musume, heavy rotation by akb48, ponponpon by kyari pamyu pamyu, mayonaka no door by miki mutsubura, sakura by ikimonogakari, choo choo train by exile, love rainbow by arashi (winning team: lgc girls)

EPISODES 5-6 [ JULY 31 ]: spicy eating competition. each group is presented with SUKIYAKI; enough for four for agito, and five for lgc girls japan. however, the broth has been spiced up to level 7. one by one, each member will have to eat as much as they can from the hot pot to be the team with the least food left after they've all eaten once. each person is only allowed one glass of milk. (winning team: agito)

EPISODES 6-7 [ AUGUST 7 ]: team spirit battle. on a real life game board, the teams throw giant dice to be the first to reach the end. however, on each square is a team challenge to accomplish. Challenge examples; eat lemons, do a positon challenge (like a pyramid), say corny phrases at the camera (winning team: agito)

EPISODE 8 [ AUGUST 14 ]: best moments recap and last chance to sway the vote of the hosts one way or another by shamelessly and brazenly appealing to them and explaining why their group deserves the show the most. season winner is announced to be LGC GIRLS JAPAN.

Who cares what the calendar says? Ryan Gosling has declared summer is officially here! 

Between longevity of the “Beavis and Butt-Head” Saturday Night Live sketch I shared last month, his extremely fun red carpet appearances, and the wonderfully fun The Fall Guy,  he’s been everywhere, and I have no complaints about it. 

But The Fall Guy and the other new releases in this Round Up aren’t the last summer movies to look forward to. I stopped by KMOV to preview some of the movies I’m most excited for this summer, including a star-studded rom-com set in the ‘60s, a legacy sequel action spectacular, a mystery starring a recent Best Actress nominee, and a prequel for a genre I rarely like. Let’s take on the summer as Ryan Gosling commands in The Fall Guy: “Jean-Claude, attaqué!” 

May Crowd-Pleasers

1. The Fall Guy (2024)

Most movies go to great pains to hide their seams, but not The Fall Guy. And who needs to when a behind-the-seams look can be so fun? Summer 2024 is starting off with a bang because it’s a blast both as an action-adventure and as a romantic comedy, making it one of the easiest movies to recommend to just about anyone. 2. John Mulaney Presents: Everybody's in LA (2024)

It’s not hyperbole to say I adored this weird and wonderful talk show experiment. Experts on palm trees and coyotes did most of the talking, Bill Hader and Pete Davidson couldn’t stop giggling, and John Mulaney kept asking about what kinds of cars people drive. Only a handful of clips have been added online from this live six-episode series…

…but if Mulaney ever decides to resurrect his late night format of taking calls, discussing non-urgent topics, and creating sketch comedy with his friends and seismologists, I’d watch it every night.

3. IF (2024)

Not everything about the logic of IF hangs together, but one of the beauties of an original world is not being encumbered by mythology and continuity. IF is about dreaming big, and it’s for kids and families who want to be dazzled by a story imaginative in every sense of the word. @ZillowGoneWild has been one of my best Instagram follows for years, so you know I’m all in on the HGTV series. Can you live inside a former missile silo? Host Jack McBrayer is stopping by the craziest Zillow listings (and more than once in my hometown of St. Louis), which you can imagine inspires hilarious commentary along the way.

1. The Way We Were (1973)

After a longer-than-planned hiatus, SO IT’S A SHOW? has returned! We’re breaking our typical mold in our seventh and final season (much like the seventh season of Gilmore Girls—IYKYK), and after a quick catch up in ep. 137 (though not without plenty of discussion of what the Palladinos are working on right now and a new Gilmore children’s book), we dig into our newest pop culture reference. In ep. 138, we’re discussing the the ‘70s weepy The Way We Were, which features a Palladino-esque heroine, Robert Redford in a cable knit sweater, heartache, laugher, and Communism all in one neat package! We discuss the cultural changes in parenting since then, why the Gilmores reference this movie several times in the series, and yes, Robert Redford in that cable knit sweater. 2. Persuasion by Jane Austen (1817)

Jane Austen—you ever heard of her? She’s pretty good! Though it always takes me a minute to get into the rhythm of her writing, her characters and plotting never disappoint. This romantic comedy focuses on lovers separated by society reuniting almost a decade later, and as always, their story is funny and swoon-worthy.

3. Audrey Hepburn in Paris by Meghan Friedlander (2024)

I have admired Audrey Hepburn as a performer, fashion icon, work-life balance enthusiast, and humanitarian since I was 15, and the creator of Rare Audrey Hepburn has captured the beauty of each of those roles in her first book. With a journalistic attention to detail, Meghan Friedlander reports on the sets, theaters, and fashion houses Hepburn graced during her frequent visits to France. This book is both a unique biography and a gorgeous coffee table book that fans of Hepburn, fashion, and film history won’t want to miss.

4. Thelma & Louise (1991)
