HISTORY

cerys was a firstborn daughter of a secondborn son, bearing the family name of 'celtigar' but unlikely to inherit claw isle. as an infant, house celtigar's greatest treasure was placed into her cradle: a dragon egg. the egg had been a gift from house targaryen some decades past, but had never hatched. it had become practice to place the egg in the cradle of each new celtigar child and allow the babe to sleep alongside it for some years; when the egg inevitably did not hatch, it was removed and regifted to the next celtigar babe, all in the hope of one day producing a celtigar dragonrider. yet hope diminished with each year and eventually it became more a matter of ceremony than a genuine attempt at hatching.

until one morning the nursemaid checked in on the infant cerys to discover a tiny blue-grey dragon curled up with her.

the girl would eventually call her dragon tempest for it's colouring that matched the sea in a storm.

lady cerys came to king's landing while still a girl, so her dragon could be looked after by the dragonkeepers and she could be fostered at king viserys' court. the child had expected to be welcomed and adored as the targaryen children were as she also had a dragon — yet she soon realized the suspicion and resentment many felt towards her as a non-targaryen with a dragon. though she had always adored tempest as a child, over the years she found herself pushed to spend less and less time with her dragon. meanwhile, tension between the queen's faction and the princess' faction grew.

she was nineteen when king viserys i died. her uncle, lord bartimos celtigar and head of the family, declared for rhaenyra and sat at her council. cerys was unofficially placed into confinement. the greens decided cerys would be wed to lord larys strong to guarantee her loyalty and the presence of her dragon on their side. it served to only outrage cerys, who felt insulted by the imprisonment and the match and who feared lord larys would have her killed once she was no longer useful to him, as he had been rumoured to have arranged the deaths of his father and brother.

cerys managed to escape the city on dragonback. she flew to dragonstone and offered to pledge herself to rhaenyra, provided the black queen promised to never force her to marry. otherwise, cerys would ride for essos and have no part in the war. rhaenyra agreed.

what started as an uneasy transaction (service for freedom) developed into genuine loyalty to the black cause. tempest was just large enough to ride into battle and cerys had every intention of serving her queen faithfully.

then the dream came.

she dreamed of an olive-green dragon lying dead at the bottom of the ocean, full of arrows. she dreamed of a young dragon, body broken, on the cobblestone streets. she dreamed of a yellow dragon consumed by flames while a child screamed. she dreamed of dead dragon after dead dragon in a countryside scourged by fire — then, of a dragon egg, hidden away in the east.

cerys awoke to news that rhaenyra's son, prince viserys, had been captured by the fleet of the kingdom of the three daughters. she rode out to war with prince jacaerys and the dragonseeds into what would become known as the battle of the gullet. and she witnessed prince jacaerys, separated from his dragon and shot full of arrows, sink below the waves.

the dream returned to her and she understood it. this war would consume all that it could, but there would be a survivor: the prince viserys was alive and was being carried to essos.

cerys abandoned the battle. the first traitor, they called her. she could not explain what she knew to be true, that the blacks would lose and the seven kingdoms suffer heavy losses, that her treachery was loyalty by seeking to protect rhaenyra's youngest son — the one person in this war she could hope to save. she would not risk the prince's safety by revealing she had foreseen his survival.

and so cerys flew for essos.

it would be years later before she returned to king's landing accompanied by the silver-haired prince viserys who had become like a son to her.

Disadvantages of LED street lamp heads

EVOLUTION: Merlin’s manager, Derek Chick, and Allan Love decided in May 1973 to form a new London-based group that would incorporate three basic essentials: musicianship, image and stage presentation. After extensive auditions and rehearsals the band was gigging by July under the name Madrigal, which was changed in February 1974 to Merlin.

PERSONNEL CHANGES: Jacob Magmusson (keyboards) left in October 1973 and Paul Taylor (bass) in September 1974.

ORIGIN OF NAME: Scully Wagon-Lit’s idea in the van going to a gig.
