Jeremias the Prophet
Reading from the Synaxarion:
This great Prophet of God, Jeremias, who loved his brethren and lamented for them greatly, who prayed much for the people and the Holy City, was the son of Helkias of the tribe of Levi, from the city of Anathoth in the land of Benjamin. He was sanctified from his mother's womb, as the Lord Himself said concerning him: "Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee; and before thou camest forth from the womb, I sanctified thee; I appointed thee a prophet to the nations" (Jer. 1:5). He prophesied for thirty years, from 613 to 583 B.C. During the last captivity of the people in the reign of Sedekias, when only a few were left behind to cultivate the land, this Prophet remained with them by the permission of Nabuzardan, the captain of the guard under Nabuchodonosor. He wept and lamented inconsolably over the desolation of Jerusalem and the enslavement of his people. But even the few that remained behind transgressed again, and fearing the vengeance of the Chaldeans, they fled into Eg ypt, forcibly taking with them Jeremias and Baruch his disciple and scribe. There he prophesied concerning Egypt and other nations, and he was stoned to death in Taphnas by his own people about the year 583 B.C., since they would not endure to hear the truth of his words and his just rebukes. His book of prophecy is divided into fifty-one chapters, and his book of lamentation into five; he is ranked second among the greater Prophets. His name means "Yah is exalted."
Apolytikion of Prophet Jeremias in the Second Tone
As we celebrate the memory of Thy Prophet Jeremias, O Lord, through him we beseech Thee to save our souls.
Kontakion of Prophet Jeremias in the Plagal of the Fourth Tone
O blessed Jeremias, being chosen of God from thy mother's womb, in thy compassion, thou sorely didst mourn for the falling away of Israel. And in Egypt, O Prophet, thou wast murdered by stoning for thy most just rebukes by them that understood not to cry with thee: Alleluia.

Tamara (Tamar), Queen of Georgia
Reading from the Synaxarion:
Saint Tamara was the only child of King George III. Upon his death in 1184, she became Queen at the age of twenty-four. Despite her youth, she ruled the country with such wisdom and godliness - leading it to unprecedented military triumphs over the neighbouring Moslem countries in defence of her kingdom, fostering arts and letters, and zealously strengthening Orthodoxy - that her reign is known as the Golden Age of Georgia. After her coronation, she convoked a local council to correct disorders in church life. When the bishops had assembled from all parts of her kingdom, she, like Saint Constantine at the First Ecumenical Council, honoured them as if she were a commoner, and they Angels of God; exhorting them to establish righteousness and redress abuses, she said in her humility, "Do away with every wickedness, beginning with me, for the prerogative of the throne is in no wise that of making war against God." Saint Tamara called herself "the father of orphans and the judge of wid ows," and her contemporaries called her "King" instead of "Queen." She herself led her army against the Moslems and fearlessly defeated them; because of the reverence that even the enemies of Georgia had for her, entire mountain tribes renounced Islam and were baptized. She built countless churches and monasteries throughout her kingdom, and was benefactress also to the Holy Land, Mount Athos, and holy places in Greece and Cyprus. She has always been much beloved by her people, who have memorialized her meekness, wisdom, piety, and obedience, and peace loving nature in innumerable legends, ballads, and songs; the poem written in her honour by Shota Rustaveli, "The Knight in the Panther Skin," is the masterpiece of Georgian literature. The great Queen Tamara departed the earthly kingdom for the heavenly in the year 1212.
Apolytikion of Tamara, Queen of Georgia in the Third Tone
Let the mountain-tops and vales of Georgia sound with songs of praise to laud Tamara as the vessel of wisdom, the smiling sun, the sword of truth, the conversion of infidels, the most harmonious reed-pipe of Jesus Christ, and our fervent intercessor before the King of Kings, entreating Him to grant great mercy unto us.
Kontakion of Tamara, Queen of Georgia in the Fourth Tone
O Thou whom thy people called a king in justice and truth, the father of orphans and the judge of widows, thou sun which shone on the Georgian land, thou who spentest all thy strength defending thy kingdom, rise up, O Tamara, and defend us now also, and by thine intercessions with Christ, save us from sufferings.

Synaxis of the Three New Righteous Martyrs of the Holy Mountain, Euthymius, Ignatius, and Acacius
Reading from the Synaxarion:
Of the three newly-shining luminaries of the Holy Mountain, the New Martyr Euthymius, who was from Demetsana of the Peloponnesus, won the crown of martyrdom when he was beheaded on Palm Sunday, March 22, 1814. Saint Ignatius, who was from Stara Zagora in Bulgaria, was martyred by hanging on October 8, 1814. Saint Acacius, who was from Neochorion of Thessalonica, was beheaded on May 1, 1815. All three had denied Christ in the foolishness of youth, and repented with great fervour; all became monks in the Skete of the Venerable Forerunner on the Holy Mountain; all had the revered elders Nicephorus and Acacius as their spirtual fathers; all were martyred in Constantinople; all were about twenty years of age; and the holy relics of all three are treasured in the aforementioned Athonite Skete of the Forerunner.
Apolytikion of Ignatius, & Euthymius the New Martyrs in the First Tone
Ye who are equal in number to the unoriginate Trinity stand now with the choirs of the Angels and hosts of Martyrs in boundless joy before the thrice-resplendent throne of the Godhead; wherefore, O most wise ones, ye partake of the beams from that awesome majesty, and grant unto the faithful the divine enlightenment from on high, unending well-springs of healings, and the pardon of our grievous sins. O divine Euthymius, Martyr of Christ, with the wise Ignatius, and God inspired Acacius, ye ever entreat the Lord God in behalf of all.
Kontakion of Ignatius, & Euthymius the New Martyrs in the Third Tone
In your zeal to emulate the righteous God-bearing Fathers, ye strove in ascetic deeds, accepting every affliction; having sought the Martyrs' glory through death by torments, ye are crowned with twofold crowns by the Crown-bestower, O Euthymius most righteous, with Saint Ignatius, and the blest Acacius on high.

Prayer Before Reading Scripture
Shine within our hearts, loving Master, the pure light of Your divine knowledge and open the eyes of our minds that we may comprehend the message of Your Gospel. Instill in us also reverence for Your blessed commandments, so that having conquered all sinful desires, we may pursue a spiritual life, thinking and doing all those things that are pleasing to You. For You, Christ our God, are the light of our souls and bodies, and to You we give glory together with Your Father who is without beginning and Your all holy, good, and life giving Spirit, now and forever and to the ages of ages. Amen.
Epistle Reading
The Reading is from Acts of the Apostles 4:23-31
In those days, when the apostles were released they went to their friends and reported what the chief priests and the elders had said to them. And when they heard it, they lifted their voices together to God and said, "Sovereign Lord, who didst make the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them, who by the mouth of our father David, thy servant, didst say by the Holy Spirit, 'Why did the Gentiles rage, and the peoples imagine vain things? The kings of the earth set themselves in array, and the rulers were gathered together, against the Lord and against his Anointed'- for truly in this city there were gathered together against thy holy servant Jesus, whom thou didst anoint, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, to do whatever thy hand and thy plan had predestined to take place. And now, Lord, look upon their threats, and grant to thy servants to speak thy word with all boldness, while thou stretchest out thy hand to heal, and sign s and wonders are performed through the name of thy holy servant Jesus." And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness.
Gospel Reading
The Reading is from the Gospel According to John 5:24-30
The Lord said to the Jews who came to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears my word and believes him who sent me, has eternal life; he does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. Truly, truly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself, and has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of man. Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come forth, those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment. I can do nothing on my own authority; as I hear, I judge; and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of the Father who sent me."

I'm not sure if you mind or not, (and if you do I apologize) but I thought up of an extension to that scribe swap au. Maybe a collab version if you will. :/ cult of the lamb x inscryption to be exact... So essentially the bishops of the old faith are made of the old data and take over each of the 4 realms. For example, the one we know in love with the pink moon is controlled by Shamura, Bishop of war, it is they who are responsable for all the squandering and power fights. They do this in order to try to free themself. But I'm not sure how the rest of them will play out... ( also, I don't know if you know Cult to the Lamb are not, but in case you don't, for reference. Kallamar is bishop of pestilence and I was thinking of making him rule over the blue moon, heck, it is the Bishop of famine, and she rules the yellow moon, and lastly, * for the sake of distinguishing between the 2* leshy jr! * the scrybe leshy is refered to as leshy sr.* or some just call him Beelzebub, he rules over the green moon. And the center of these worlds, a former bishop and middle sibling, narinder is chained in order to keep him from foiling the bishops' plan of domination.) **again if you do mind me just barging in like this, I'm sorry, and you're free to not respond to this. I just thought of your scrybe swap au and this thought couldn't leave my precious mind.**
personally i'm not at all knowledgeable or fixated on CoTL, but if you want to make a fragmentary crossover AU thing, go for it! sounds like a cool concept, and it's always fun and flattering to see people get inspired by my lil AU ideas ^^
#doot answers#also if anyone else is into this concept you guys can chat about it!#i wish i could say i was interested in cotl#it's just not my vibe#but i've seen tons of cool stuff about it

My costume submissions for pansear-doodles halloween contest!
@pansear-doodles made a contest some time ago and since its over now i wanted to post my submissions and talk a lil abt them
Artificer
This is a costume of arti as Artemis from Hades. I love goddess Artemis and i thought it fitted arti pretty well, as well as hunter tho i had a different idea for them. I wanted to experiment a bit with maybe just being inspired by the Hades version, with some sort of creature bone/skull mask/helmet, as well as adding a bit more flare. I love Hades god designs, but Artemis was always my least fave ngl. tho i wasn't able to experiment much and stuck around to the Hades version due to time and not having many good ideas.
Enot
Im so glad the Once-ler Enot got through and the other shown costume ideas i love em so much. I love joke characters, but i'm clearly isn't the best at designing them heh. This is gamer Enot with all the cringe gamer merch, dressed up as their computer having an LED gamer keyboard and mouse. Maybe now looking at it i should have added maybe some consol (tho they struck me as a religious pc gamer) or some LOL or other popular game merch to sell the gamer look. Maybe also add some doritos and mountain dew.
Gourmand and their pups (matching set)
I for the longest time could not decide, if i wanted to put gourm as dt asgore or ut asgore. Because it had to be asgore no questions asked, i mean look at the guy! I choose ut cause the way asgore is treated in dt just kill me internally. Also ut asgore family is much more functional. For the pups I wanted them to look like they’ve been face painted. Idk if chara and asriel really work for their personality, but i didnt really have any other idea with them. Also the one as asriel could’ve brought those like galaxy swords and some cool stuff from asriel dreemurr fight.
Also i wanted the drawing to resemble those monarch painted family portraits, so that’s why this style.
Hunter
I didnt have any good ideas for hunter, until i was scrolling through my reblogs and saw puss in boots the last wish fanart. It worked so well with the hunter's personality i had to!
Iterators (matching set)
It was so hard to have a good idea for those 4, because tere were 4 of them. You have so many trios everywhere, but 4 gang nahhh. I thought at first to dress them as their slugs u know a classic really, but too basic for me i knew someone would submit that. Maybe cult of the lamb bishops not a bad idea either tbh, but something didn't vibe right. So
I shit u not
the iterators were suppose to be
for the longest time
glamrocks from fnaf sb
yeaahhhhhhh i did have any better idea for a 4 gang and fnaf franchise was the only thing coming to my mind that vibed with me. But then i was scrolling through my alt for reblogs and i saw inscyption fanart i reblogged at some point, and i had that moment: NEURONS ACTIVATE, and decided to not be cringe and make them into scribes ighodghgdoa. I had i lil moment wondering between srs and nsh and leshy and magnificus, but it was quickly resolved by pushing nsh into a bush. and 5p as po3 and lttm as grimora was a no brainer.
Martyr
i dont know why i thought this was a good idea, but i vibed with it. I thought to make them a Julius Caesar from asterix and obelix comics.
This guy:
Monk and the lizards
Monk was always supposed to be a pokemon trainer. It works so well with them. At first i thought to give them Reds outfit, but then i decided to make them an N, a character from Black and White. His closeness and kindness to his pokemon, tie well with monk and their lizards.
Lizards are painted as spindas. i thought abt giving each individual pokemon, but i also wanted to make it quick and easy for the comics, so spindas! infinite patterns for an infinite amount of friends.
Survivor and Nightcat 9matching outfits)
Okay so this reference is like really obscure. It's the main characters from the movie Mune: guardian of the moon. I think i watched it only one time, long ago, i think the plot is really basic, but the lore and the art from it is great. it's one of those: if it was 2d it would’ve been so beautiful.
Anyway i wanted to do a lil swap: survivor is mune and nightcat is glim, cause it worked better personality wise.
anyway go watch it or look up art for it, its really cool
Rivulet
Big big thanks to @kociamieta, because i really could decide where i wanted to go with this. I had an idea for a shark hoodie, undyne, a sci fi speedster and perry the platypus. (if it comes up that someone submitted perry the platypus costume and it didnt go through, idk what i will do) So they were like: why not combine the shark hoodie and a sci fi speedster and jaga u are a genius. im not too proud of this one, the colors could be a lil better and the suit needs some work, but it was the last day of the competition and didn't have that much time.
Saint
Saint as snufkins, very original (i wanted for the Jessica Rabbit costume to win). i don’t have much to say here other then my 10000 environment brushes as always carry the piece
I wondered for a bit if I should make them some cosmic horror god. Not with body horror, but those gods that will stand in the middle of the forest and just look at u.
Scav king
Very basic, jack sparrow inspired scav king costume, inspired by the helm comic part.
(king julien for the win lets gooooo)
Spearmaster
My personal proudest one. A simple spray painter, but i put much care into this one. Now looking at it, I should rethink some colors, but i still like it. The spray cans could’ve been swapped out for needles (optional, not a correct). The tail is a paint brush with a swirl that isn't very visible in the colored piece.
Wanderer
Hollow knight gang! I think quirrel works well with wanderer. I mean the name, the character, the mission. They work well, I think.
Thanks yet again to @pansear-doodles for organizing the whole thing. It was very fun! Congrats to all the other winners too!

Wednesday, Twenty First Week in Ordinary Time.
Wednesday, Twenty First Week in Ordinary Time
(Liturgical Colour: White. Year: B(II))
(Readings for the feria (Wednesday))
(There is a choice today between the readings for the ferial day (Wednesday) and those for the memorial. The ferial readings are recommended unless pastoral reasons suggest otherwise)
First Reading 2 Thessalonians 3:6-10, 16-18 If anyone is unwilling to work, neither should that one eat.
We instruct you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to shun any brother who walks in a disorderly way and not according to the tradition they received from us. For you know how one must imitate us. For we did not act in a disorderly way among you, nor did we eat food received free from anyone. On the contrary, in toil and drudgery, night and day we worked, so as not to burden any of you. Not that we do not have the right. Rather, we wanted to present ourselves as a model for you, so that you might imitate us. In fact, when we were with you, we instructed you that if anyone was unwilling to work, neither should that one eat. May the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you. This greeting is in my own hand, Paul’s. This is the sign in every letter; this is how I write. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with all of you.
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm Psalm 128:1-2, 4-5
R/ Blessed are those who fear the Lord.
Blessed are you who fear the LORD, who walk in his ways! For you shall eat the fruit of your handiwork; blessed shall you be, and favored.
R/ Blessed are those who fear the Lord.
Behold, thus is the man blessed who fears the LORD. The LORD bless you from Zion: may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life.
R/ Blessed are those who fear the Lord.
Gospel Acclamation 1 John 2:5
Alleluia, alleluia. Whoever keeps the word of Christ, the love of God is truly perfected in him. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel Matthew 23:27-32 You are the children of those who murdered the prophets.
Jesus said, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and every kind of filth. Even so, on the outside you appear righteous, but inside you are filled with hypocrisy and evildoing. “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the memorials of the righteous, and you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our ancestors, we would not have joined them in shedding the prophets’ blood.’ Thus you bear witness against yourselves that you are the children of those who murdered the prophets; now fill up what your ancestors measured out!”
The Gospel of the Lord
R/ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Saint Augustine, Bishop, Doctor
(Liturgical Colour: White. Year: B(II))
(Readings for the memorial)
(There is a choice today between the readings for the ferial day (Wednesday) and those for the memorial. The ferial readings are recommended unless pastoral reasons suggest otherwise)
First Reading 1 John 4:7-16 If we love one another, God will live in us.
Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God; everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God. Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love. In this way the love of God was revealed to us: God sent his only-begotten Son into the world so that we might have life through him. In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as expiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also must love one another. No one has ever seen God. Yet, if we love one another, God remains in us, and his love is brought to perfection in us. This is how we know that we remain in him and he in us, that he has given us of his Spirit. Moreover, we have seen and testify that the Father sent his Son as savior of the world. Whoever acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in him and he in God. We have come to know and to believe in the love God has for us. God is love, and whoever remains in love remains in God and God in him.
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm Psalm 119:9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14
R/ Lord, teach me your statutes.
How shall a young man be faultless in his way? By keeping to your words.
R/ Lord, teach me your statutes.
With all my heart I seek you; let me not stray from your commands.
R/ Lord, teach me your statutes.
Within my heart I treasure your promise, that I may not sin against you.
R/ Lord, teach me your statutes.
Blessed are you, O LORD; teach me your statutes.
R/ Lord, teach me your statutes.
With my lips I declare all the ordinances of your mouth.
R/ Lord, teach me your statutes.
In the way of your decrees I rejoice, as much as in all riches.
R/ Lord, teach me your statutes.
Gospel Acclamation Matthew 23:9b, 10b
Alleluia, alleluia. You have but one Father, in heaven; you have but one master, the Christ. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel Matthew 23:8-12 Do not be called ‘Master’; you have one master, the Christ.
Jesus spoke to his disciples: “Do not be called ‘Rabbi.’ You have but one teacher, and you are all brothers. Call no one on earth your father; you have but one Father in heaven. Do not be called ‘Master’; you have but one master, the Christ. The greatest among you must be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled; but whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”
The Gospel of the Lord
R/ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Saints&Reading: Monday, November 27, 2023
November 14 November 27 Eve of the Nativity Fast.
HOLY AND ALL PRAISED APOSTLE PHILIP (1st c.)
The Holy and All-praised Apostle Philip was a native of the city of Bethsaida in Galilee. He had a profound depth of knowledge of the Holy Scripture, and rightly discerning the meaning of the Old Testament prophecies, he awaited the coming of the Messiah. Through the call of the Savior (John 1:43), Philip followed Him. The Apostle Philip is spoken about several times in the Holy Gospel: he brought to Christ the Apostle Nathaniel (i.e. Bartholomew, April 22, June 30, and August 25. See John. 1:46). The Lord asks him where to buy bread for five thousand men (John. 6: 5-7). He brought certain of the Hellenized Jews wanting to see Jesus (John. 12:21-22); and finally, at the Last Supper he asked Christ to show them the Father (John. 14:8).
After the Ascension of the Lord, the Apostle Philip preached the Word of God in Galilee, accompanying his preaching with miracles. Thus, he restored to life a dead infant in the arms of its mother. From Galilee he went to Greece, and preached among the Jews that had settled there. Some of them reported the preaching of the Apostle to Jerusalem. In response, some scribes arrived in Greece from Jerusalem, with one of the Jewish chief priests at their head, to interrogate the Apostle Philip.
The Apostle Philip exposed the lie of the chief priest, who said that the disciples of Christ had stolen away and hidden the body of Christ. Philip told instead how the Pharisees had bribed the soldiers on watch, to deliberately spread this rumor. When the Jewish chief priest and his companions began to insult the Lord and lunged at the Apostle Philip, they suddenly were struck blind. By his prayer the Apostle restored everyone’s sight. Seeing this miracle, many believed in Christ. The Apostle Philip provided a bishop for them, by the name of Narcissus (one of the Seventy Apostles, January 4).
From Greece the Apostle Philip went to Parthia, and then to the city of Azotus, where he healed an eye affliction of the daughter of a local resident named Nikoklides, who had received him into his home, and then baptized his whole family.
From Azotus the Apostle Philip set out to Syrian Hieropolis (there were several cities of this name) where, stirred up by the Pharisees, the Jews burned the house of Heros, who had taken in the Apostle Philip, and they wanted to kill the apostle. The apostle performed several miracles: the healing of the hand of the city official Aristarchus, withered when he attempted to strike the apostle; and restoring a dead child to life. When they saw these marvels, they repented and many accepted holy Baptism. After making Heros the bishop at Hieropolis, the Apostle Philip went on to Syria, Asia Minor, Lydia, Emessa, and everywhere preaching the Gospel and undergoing sufferings. Both he and his sister Mariamne (February 17) were pelted with stones, locked up in prison, and thrown out of villages.
Then the Apostle Philip arrived in the city of Phrygian Hieropolis, where there were many pagan temples. There was also a pagan temple where people worshiped an enormous serpent as a god. The Apostle Philip by the power of prayer killed the serpent and healed many bitten by snakes.
Among those healed was the wife of the city prefect, Amphipatos. Having learned that his wife had accepted Christianity, the prefect Amphipatos gave orders to arrest Saint Philip, his sister, and the Apostle Bartholomew traveling with them. At the urging of the pagan priests of the temple of the serpent, Amphipatos ordered the holy Apostles Philip and Bartholomew to be crucified.
Suddenly, an earthquake struck, and it knocked down all those present at the place of judgment. Hanging upon the cross by the pagan temple of the serpent, the Apostle Philip prayed for those who had crucified him, asking God to save them from the ravages of the earthquake. Seeing this happen, the people believed in Christ and began to demand that the apostles be taken down from the crosses. The Apostle Bartholomew was still alive when he was taken down, and he baptized all those believing and established a bishop for them.
But the Apostle Philip, through whose prayers everyone remained alive, except for Amphipatos and the pagan priests, died on the cross.
Mariamne his sister buried his body, and went with the Apostle Bartholomew to preach in Armenia, where the Apostle Bartholomew was crucified (June 11); Mariamne herself then preached until her own death at Lykaonia.
The holy Apostle Philip is not to be confused with Saint Philip the Deacon (October 11), one of the Seventy.
NEW MARTYR CONSTANTINE OF HYDRA (Mt. ATHOS_1800)
The Holy New Martyr Constantine was born on the island of Hydra; his father was named Michael, and his mother was called Marina. At the age of eighteen, he left Hydra and went to Rhodes, where he served the Turkish ruler Hasan Kapetan. There Constantine converted to Islam and took the name Hasan, in honor of his master. For three years he received great honors and was content.
Later, however, he felt remorse for denying Christ. He gave alms to Orthodox Christians, prayed with bitter tears, and showed great reverence to the Orthodox priests he encountered. He decided to atone for his sin by martyrdom. So he found a Spiritual Father, to whom he confessed, asking for his blessing to seek martyrdom. Seeing how young he was, his Spiritual Father advised him to wait. Constantine obeyed and left Rhodes, traveling to the city of Krimi, then to Constantinople, and from there he went to the Holy Mountain.
At Ivḗron Monastery he prepared himself for martyrdom. With the blessing of the Fathers, he returned to Rhodes and presented himself to the ruler, and courageously confessed Christ. The tortures he endured were horrible. Finally, he was hanged on November 14, 1800.
Today, at Saint Constantine's birthplace on Hydra, there is a beautiful church which is dedicated to him, and there his holy relics are kept.
A fragment from Saint Constantine's relics is in the "Quick to Hear" Icon at Saint Tikhon's Monastery church in Pennsylvania.

1 CORINTHIANS 4:9-16
9 For I think that God has displayed us, the apostles, last, as men condemned to death; for we have been made a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men. 10 We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are dishonored! 11 To the present hour we both hunger and thirst, and we are poorly clothed, and beaten, and homeless. 12 And we labor, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure; 13 being defamed, we entreat. We have been made as the filth of the world, the offscouring of all things until now. 14 I do not write these things to shame you, but as my beloved children, I warn you. 15 For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus, I have begotten you through the gospel. 16 Therefore I urge you, to imitate me.
JOHN 1:43-51
43 The following day Jesus wanted to go to Galilee, and He found Philip and said to him, "Follow Me." 44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, "We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote-Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." 46 And Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see." 47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!" 48 Nathanael said to Him, "How do You know me?" Jesus answered and said to him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you." 49 Nathanael answered and said to Him, "Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!" 50 Jesus answered and said to him, "Because I said to you, 'I saw you under the fig tree,' do you believe? You will see greater things than these." 51 And He said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man."

Bishop Robert Barron
Cycle C
Ordinary Time
10th wk of Ordinary Time
Daily Reading
First Reading
2 Corinthians 3:15 – 4:1, 3-6
Indeed, to this very day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their minds;but when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit. Therefore, since it is by God’s mercy that we are engaged in this ministry, we do not lose heart. And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.For we do not proclaim ourselves; we proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and ourselves as your slaves for Jesus’ sake. For it is the God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
Psalm
Psalm 85:9ab and 10, 11-12, 13-14
Surely his salvation is at hand for those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land. Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet; righteousness and peace will kiss each other. Faithfulness will spring up from the ground, and righteousness will look down from the sky. The Lord will give what is good, and our land will yield its increase. Righteousness will go before him, and will make a path for his steps.
Gospel Reading
Matthew 5:20-26
For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. “You have heard that it was said to those of ancient times, ‘You shall not murder’; and ‘whoever murders shall be liable to judgment.’But I say to you that if you are angry with a brother or sister, you will be liable to judgment; and if you insult a brother or sister, you will be liable to the council; and if you say, ‘You fool,’ you will be liable to the hell of fire.So when you are offering your gift at the altar, if you remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother or sister, and then come and offer your gift.Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are on the way to court with him, or your accuser may hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you will be thrown into prison.Truly I tell you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny.
Reflection
Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus teaches that if a brother has something against us, we must be reconciled with him before we offer our gift at the altar. This reconciling requires a change of heart and mind. The word often misleadingly translated as “repent” is metanoiete. This Greek term is based upon two words, meta (beyond) and nous (mind or spirit), and thus, in its most basic form, it means something like “go beyond the mind that you have.” The English word “repent” has a moralizing overtone, suggesting a change in behavior or action, whereas Jesus’ term seems to be hinting at a change at a far more fundamental level of one’s being. Jesus urges his listeners to change their way of knowing, their way of perceiving and grasping reality, their mode of seeing. What Jesus implies is this: A new state of affairs has arrived, the divine and human have met, but the way you customarily see is going to blind you to this novelty. Minds, eyes, ears, senses, perceptions—all have to be opened up, turned around, revitalized. Metanoia, mind transformation, is Jesus’ first recommendation.

Hmm, 2 and 4 are both fun for the same reason though I'd say 4 is slightly preferable since I imagine it would be hard to hear the wry functionary if one is sitting next to September. So the Keen Adventuress, who is a respectable high society lady while also being deeply committed to turning the lights out, probably sits there.
At the same time 4 and 7 are both dangerously close to the bishop of southwark, who finds himself sandwiched between two devils and will be making that everyone else's problem. But to be quite frank there's nowhere on the plane where southwark wouldn't be the loudest thing around, except possibly the wing, so in all likelihood fiacre will agree to swap places with him if nobody else does. The Hollow Hunter would probably be willing to shoulder that burden
6 is deeply promising because you've got December, January, and Furnace Ancona all right there and you just know December and January will be conversing diagonally across the aisle. It's not a private location, of course, so the entire thing will be in code and half the information probably false. But a useful spot for a revolutionary all the same. The questionable professor would probably sit here.
8 and 5 would I think be the most pleasant overall, just enough interesting conversation with the seats on either side of you and tantalizing snippets of whatever Fiacre and Feducci are talking about. I could also see the questionable professor in either of these spots, and perhaps the keen adventuress as well if she's not in the mood to sit that close to the contrarian.
The furtive scribe is either sitting in 1 because he's a slut that would love nothing more than to sit between one of his many husbands and one of his many flings, or in 9 because sitting between furnace Ancona and the efficient commissioner has become second nature after all those board meetings.
The hollow hunter barely knows any of these people and probably somehow gravitates to either 2 or 9 just by avoiding any particularly scary looking strangers.

DAILY SCRIPTURE READINGS (DSR) 📚 Group, Wed Aug 28th, 2024 ... Wednesday of the Twenty-first Week in Ordinary Time, Year B/Memorial of Saint Augustine, Bishop and Doctor of the Church
Reading 1
---------------
2 THES 3:6-10, 16-18
We instruct you, brothers and sisters,
in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
to shun any brother
who walks in a disorderly way
and not according to the tradition they received from us.
For you know how one must imitate us.
For we did not act in a disorderly way among you,
nor did we eat food received free from anyone.
On the contrary, in toil and drudgery, night and day we worked,
so as not to burden any of you.
Not that we do not have the right.
Rather, we wanted to present ourselves as a model for you,
so that you might imitate us.
In fact, when we were with you, we instructed you that
if anyone was unwilling to work, neither should that one eat.
May the Lord of peace himself
give you peace at all times and in every way.
The Lord be with all of you.
This greeting is in my own hand, Paul’s.
This is the sign in every letter; this is how I write.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with all of you.
Responsorial Psalm

PS 128:1-2, 4-5
R. (1) Blessed are those who fear the Lord.
Blessed are you who fear the LORD,
who walk in his ways!
For you shall eat the fruit of your handiwork;
blessed shall you be, and favored.
R. Blessed are those who fear the Lord.
Behold, thus is the man blessed
who fears the LORD.
The LORD bless you from Zion:
may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem
all the days of your life.
R. Blessed are those who fear the Lord.

MT 23:27-32
Jesus said,
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites.
You are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside,
but inside are full of dead men’s bones and every kind of filth.
Even so, on the outside you appear righteous,
but inside you are filled with hypocrisy and evildoing.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites.
You build the tombs of the prophets
and adorn the memorials of the righteous,
and you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our ancestors,
we would not have joined them in shedding the prophets’ blood.’
Thus you bear witness against yourselves
that you are the children of those who murdered the prophets;
now fill up what your ancestors measured out!”

FOCUS AND LITURGY OF THE WORD
Welcome back. The gospel of Jesus Christ is as radical and relevant today as it was 2,000 years ago. And that's why each day we take a few moments to read the gospel reading of the day, looking for a word or phrase or an idea that jumps out at us that the Spirit uses to capture our attention, so we can focus our day on the gospel of Jesus. Today's reading comes from the Gospel of Matthew chapter 23 verses 27 through 32. "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites, for you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within, they are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness.
So you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but within, you're full of hypocrisy and inequity. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, will you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous, saying, 'If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.' Thus, you witness against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. Fill up then the measure of your fathers." What jumps out at you today? Well, this is three days in a row, right?
Jesus is like, "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites." So he's not letting up on the scribes and the Pharisees. And Jesus lived at a very moderate temperament. And for him to be this worked up about these men in these positions of power and authority means that the way they have offended him by taking advantage of people, using people, abusing people, was great. It wasn't a small thing. And again, today, he's focusing on the fact that they are so focused on all of the external, and that they are neglecting the internal. And worse than neglecting the internal, they're allowing the internal to rot and to become decayed.
And so, again, we have an invitation to live our lives from the inside out. Are we living our lives from the inside out, or are we living our lives from the outside in? The temptation is to focus on all the externals, make sure we look right, to make sure we're being seen to do the right things. And God is inviting us not to pretend to do the right things, but to actually do the right things for the right reasons in the right time, to become who he's created us to be, not just to pretend to be somebody.
And of course, that's harder and harder in our world where in a world of social media, so many people spend so much of their life pretending to live a life so that they can post it, so that people can see them. And then other people looking at them and thinking, "Well, that's their real life," when the reality is, they're just pretending that that's their life. And then all these other people are saying, "Well, I want that life that they have," but they don't actually have that life. And so you can see how this spiral effect could take a hold of society and has taken a hold of society.
And so today, the gospel is an invitation to return to the basics and to say, "Okay, am I living my life from the inside out, or am I wasting my time, effort, and energy pretending to be someone that I am not?" Have an amazing day and remember, don't just be yourself. Be the very best version of yourself, all that God created you to be.

SAINT OF THE DAY
Saint Augustine of Hippo
(November 13, 354 – August 28, 430)
Saint Augustine’s Story
A Christian at 33, a priest at 36, a bishop at 41: Many people are familiar with the biographical sketch of Augustine of Hippo, sinner turned saint. But to get to really know the man is a rewarding experience.
There quickly surfaces the intensity with which he lived his life, whether his path led away from or toward God. The tears of his mother, the instructions of Ambrose and, most of all, God himself speaking to him in the Scriptures, redirected Augustine’s love of life to a life of love.
Having been so deeply immersed in creature-pride of life in his early days and having drunk deeply of its bitter dregs, it is not surprising that Augustine should have turned, with a holy fierceness, against the many demon-thrusts rampant in his day. His times were truly decadent: politically, socially, morally. He was both feared and loved, like the Master. The perennial criticism leveled against him: a fundamental rigorism.
In his day, Augustine providentially fulfilled the office of prophet. Like Jeremiah and other greats, he was hard-pressed but could not keep quiet. “I say to myself, I will not mention him/I will speak in his name no more/But then it becomes like fire burning in my heart/imprisoned in my bones/I grow weary holding it in/I cannot endure it” (Jeremiah 20:9).
Reflection
----------
Augustine is still acclaimed and condemned in our day. He is a prophet for today, trumpeting the need to scrap escapisms and stand face-to-face with personal responsibility and dignity.

Catholic Manhood Nuggets - The Conditions of Discipleship: Get out of your comfort zone
Notes:
Catholic Manhood Nuggets - The Conditions of Discipleship: Get out of your comfort zone.
September 3rd Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
Matthew 16:21-28
The First Prediction of the Passion.*
21 From that time on, Jesus began to show his disciples that he* must go to Jerusalem and suffer greatly from the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.o 22* Then Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, “God forbid, Lord! No such thing shall ever happen to you.” 23 He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are an obstacle to me. You are thinking not as God does, but as human beings do.”
The Conditions of Discipleship.*
24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself,* take up his cross, and follow me. 25 For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.* 26 What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? Or what can one give in exchange for his life? 27 For the Son of Man will come with his angels in his Father’s glory, and then he will repay everyone according to his conduct. 28 Amen, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”
Matthew 16:21-27: Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.
1 ) Where you put your time that is what you treasure. This passage from the Bible talks about a person who wishes to become a Christian and be close to Jesus. They must deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow Jesus. Doing this will make them closer to Jesus and they will be rewarded at the final judgment.
2) The deeper your faith, deepens your faith. In his prediction of his own sufferings and death, Christ told his disciples that they should expect to go through severe trials in this life - even the potential of an untimely death. He admonished them to not be overcome by fear or anxiety in these difficult times, but to remain steadfast in their faith, even if it leads to hardship. Christ's words offer us hope in the face of any suffering we may experience, reminding us that it is through faith that we can overcome anything.
3) The more you suffer, the more everything else looks incrementally easier around you. Daily carrying of our Christian cross can be and is for many, a prolonged martyrdom. Poverty, ill-health, cruelty and hardheartedness met with at home and in neighbors can be heavy crosses that only a truly Christian shoulder can bear. But, if we were offered health, happiness, peace, wealth and power for the next fifty or seventy years on this earth, in exchange for an eternal heaven after death, what rational one among us would accept that offer?
4) Preparation is the key to opportunity, do this with the Lord and not on your own. Christians know that this life is a time of preparation, which makes us ready for the eternal reward that Christ has won for us. Every trainee knows that one must undergo certain hardships and sufferings in order to merit graduation into one's chosen profession or trade. May God grant that every one of us will hear these words of welcome.
[Matthew 16:23] "He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are an obstacle to me. You are thinking not as God does, but as human beings do.”
5) Learn to recognize distractions, as they are not of God. Peter's refusal to accept Jesus' predicted suffering and death is seen as a serious theological error on Peter's part, and the disciple is addressed in terms that recall Jesus' dismissal of the devil in the temptation account (Mt 4:10: "Get away, Satan!"). Peter's satanic purpose is emphasized by Matthew's addition to the Marcan source of the words "You are an obstacle to me."

It's Joan of Arc, the Original French Fry!
___
JOKE-OGRAPHY: 1. St. Joan of Arc was a peasant girl who claimed to hear the voices of saints telling her to lead the French army against the English and have Charles VII crowned king of France. Some French folks, like the Armagnacs, were loyal to Charles, but others, like the Burgundians, were loyal to the English, instead. 2. Before Joan's forces broke the siege of Orléans (her first great conquest), she had her army take a break from fighting for Ascension Thursday, a feast day we just passed, and one Joan thought too holy for battle. On that day she had a scribe write a letter warning the English to go home or face God's wrath. In this cartoon, she delivers this message personally. 3. The French version of Joan of Arc's name is Jeanne d'Arc. In the final panel of this cartoon, the soldier mutters, "That's a bit dark," but "dark" is spelled "d'Arc", because he's talking about how dark Jeanne d'Arc's comment was. 4. At the age of about 19, Joan was found guilty of heresy by a slanted court led by a bishop who was loyal to England. They refused to let her case be heard by the actual pope, and they also refused her pleas for mass, communion, and confession throughout the process. They burned her alive on May 30th, 1431. Fifteen years later, the Church was called to reexamine the case, this time with the pope involved, and her conviction was overturned. Of course, that didn't overturn her death, but she was eventually made a saint, so that's pretty neat. Anyway, with Ascension Thursday AND the anniversary of her execution being so close this year, I figured a Joan of Arc cartoon was long overdue.

First Reading Jeremiah 18:1-6 Like the clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, house of Israel.
This word came to Jeremiah from the LORD: Rise up, be off to the potter’s house; there I will give you my message. I went down to the potter’s house and there he was, working at the wheel. Whenever the object of clay which he was making turned out badly in his hand, he tried again, making of the clay another object of whatever sort he pleased. Then the word of the LORD came to me: Can I not do to you, house of Israel, as this potter has done? says the LORD. Indeed, like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, house of Israel.
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm Psalm 146:1b-2, 3-4, 5-6ab
R/ Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob. or R/ Alleluia.
Praise the LORD, O my soul; I will praise the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God while I live.
R/ Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob. or R/ Alleluia.
Put not your trust in princes, in the sons of men, in whom there is no salvation. When his spirit departs he returns to his earth; on that day his plans perish.
R/ Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob. or R/ Alleluia.
Blessed he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD, his God. Who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them.
R/ Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob. or R/ Alleluia.
Gospel Acclamation cf. Acts of the Apostles 16:14b
Alleluia, alleluia. Open our hearts, O Lord, to listen to the words of your Son. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel Matthew 13:47-53 They put what is good into buckets, what is bad they throw away.
Jesus said to the disciples: “The Kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown into the sea, which collects fish of every kind. When it is full they haul it ashore and sit down to put what is good into buckets. What is bad they throw away. Thus it will be at the end of the age. The angels will go out and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.” “Do you understand all these things?” They answered, “Yes.” And he replied, “Then every scribe who has been instructed in the Kingdom of heaven is like the head of a household who brings from his storeroom both the new and the old.” When Jesus finished these parables, he went away from there.
The Gospel of the Lord
R/ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

First Reading Romans 8:1-4 The law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death.
Brothers and sisters: Now there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus has freed you from the law of sin and death. For what the law, weakened by the flesh, was powerless to do, this God has done: by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for the sake of sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, so that the righteous decree of the law might be fulfilled in us, who live not according to the flesh but according to the spirit.

Gospel Acclamation Matthew 5:16
Alleluia, alleluia. Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel Matthew 5:13-19 You are the light of the world.
Jesus said to his disciples: “You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father. “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.”
The Gospel of the Lord
R/ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

According to archives St. Saturninus was, one of the most illustrious martyrs France has given to the Church. We possess only his Acts, which are very old, since they were utilized by St. Gregory of Tours. He was the first bishop of Toulouse, where he arrived during the consulate of Decius and Gratus (250). Whether there were already Christians in the town or his preaching made numerous conversions, he soon had a little church. To reach it he had to pass before the capitol where there was a temple, and according to the Acts, the pagan priests ascribed to his frequent passings the silence of their oracles. One day they seized him and on his unshakeable refusal to sacrifice to the idols they condemned him be tied by the feet to a bull which dragged him about the town until the rope broke. Two Christian women piously gathered up the remains and buried them in a deep ditch, that they might not be profaned by the pagans. His successors, Sts. Hilary and Exuperius, gave him more honourable burial. A church was erected where the bull stopped. It still exists, and is called the church of the Taur (the bull). The body of the saint was transferred at an early date and is still preserved in the Church of St. Sernin (or Saturninus), one of the most ancient and beautiful of Southern France. His feast was entered on the Hieronymian Martyrology for 29 November; his cult spread abroad. The account of his Acts was embellished with several details, and legends linked his name with the beginning of the churches of Eauze, Auch, Pamplona, and Amiens, but these are without historic foundations.
MARTYR PHILOUMENUS OF ANCYRA (274)
The Holy Martyr Philoumenus suffered for Christ in the year 274, during the persecution against Christians by the emperor Aurelian (270-275). Saint Philoumenus was a bread merchant in Ancyra. Envious persons reported to the governor Felix that Philoumenus was a Christian, and so he came before a judge.
Saint Philoumenus did not renounce Christ. For this they hammered nails into his hands, feet and head, and they forced him to walk. The holy martyr bravely endured the torments and he died from loss of blood, giving up his soul to God.

2 TIMOTHY 3:16-4:4
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
1 I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: 2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.
LUKE 19:45-48
45 Then He went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in it, 46 saying to them, "It is written, 'My house is a house of prayer,' but you have made it a 'den of thieves.' " 47 And He was teaching daily in the temple. But the chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people sought to destroy Him, 48 and were unable to do anything; for all the people were very attentive to hear Him
