Journey to Serenity

In order to travel the beautiful world a person should start by travelling their own country. Sylhet has to be mentioned first if we talk about the beauty of Bangladesh. Hence this time I decided to visit the famous sights of Sylhet. All of us were going in this trip met at Cumilla Railway Station. Four of us were going in the trip including me, my childhood friend Shihab, my University friend Rafi and one of my smaller associate. Our journey for Sylhet began at 12:30 AM. The feeling of journey by train is quite intriguing to me especially because of the experience of natural wind.

After 30 minutes our first pit stop was Bhramonbaria. During that time we got the opportunity to walk on that station and see lots of various people who live in the station and had some snacks. While the sun was raising our train was on its way to Shrimongol hence we got to see several greenery in the form of mountains, and tea estates. After travelling more 5 more hours we finally reached Sylhet.

Waiting for us in the station was a young brother of mine named Omor. He used to live in Cumilla but later moved onto Sylhet after completing his SSC from Cumilla District School. He invited us to stay at his home when we visited Sylhet and therefore came to the station to pick us up. After having breakfast at his home we decided to first visit Jaflong. It is not only a scenic sighting of Sylhet only but Bangladesh itself. We hired a CNG for the day and set off to Jaflong.

Just like Jaflong even the roads of Sylhet is a bit different. Just outside of Omor’s house there were tea estates. As we moved forward the tea estates increased. In addition to that we were also seeing mountains that are shared by both Bangladesh and India. As tea estates kept coming we could not resist the urge of taking a few pictures.

After that small pause we again continued in our journey and in small time reached Jaflong. Once we reached there the first thing I saw was big machineries that are used to cut stones and several workers that work there. When we went a bit forward we were able to see rivers that flow from Bangladesh to India.

We took a boat to see the biggest fountain of Jaflong. Although the boat ride first felt scary but slowly we were able to get off the fear. On the other side of the river bank we were able to see some Inidans. We had to get off the boat and walk a bit before finally reaching the fountain. It was quite big and people from all over the country come to visit the fountain. We could also see there some temporary shops that sold numerous items.

After bathing in the fountain we had to face a horrific incident. The sky suddenly became dark. It started to rain. The water of the fountain started becoming aggressive and people became restless for finding a boat. Whoever could get in a boat and got out of that place did but we were left behind. At the end although we were able to get on a boat the rain increased and there was such a high tide in the river that the boat was about to collapse but eventually we were able to reach the river bank.

We then came back to Omar’s house had lunch and went to visit the Shrine of Shahjalal and Shahporan. There we saw several people performing several rituals. There were also several white pigeons in the shrines. After a long day of travelling we came back home very tired.

The morning of our second day began with the sound of pouring rain. Omar brought us the traditional breakfast of Sylhet which was “Pithas”.After breakfast Omar took us to a high peak from which the Town of Sylhet looked even better. When we finished our Jumma Prayer we set off to Bichanakandi fountain. The river way was too beautiful.

We got to see several cows and buffaloes grazing in the fields. We also got to see some boatmen having their lunch in their boats. After reaching we took a bath and walked on stones. Since the water so clean it felt great walking on it. The most beautiful thing about Bichanakandi was the collection of several colorful stones.

Then we decided to visit Ratargul forest. Since that place was a remote region we had to face severe difficulties reaching there. After reaching we got in a boat and started roaming in the forest. Our boatman was a small kid. The solitude of the forest felt a bit scary. It felt as if we have reached a place out of this world. The rain again started to fall hence we had to return to the bank.

While we were coming back to Omor’s home we remembered about the famous 7-Layer tea of Sylhet.

After having that we decided to have a barbeque party at Omor’s home. We got a lot of help from Omor’s neighbour in conducting the barbeque.

The next morning we bid farewell to Sylhet and started our journey back to Cumilla.

4. Shahid Hadis Park Location: Khulna

Shaheed Hadith Park is a park located on the west side of Bangladesh Bank Khulna branch on Babukhan road in Khulna city of Khulna district of Bangladesh. After the establishment of the Khulna Municipality in 184, the municipal authorities established a 'Khulna Municipal Park' for the entertainment of the city dwellers. Later, it was named after Sheikh Hadisur Rahman Babu, who was shot dead by police in an anti-Ayub procession during the mass uprising on 21 February 1969.

Lalon Academy and Shrine is situated on the banks of the river Kaliganga in the village of Cheuria in Kumarkhali Upazila of Kushtia district, which is known as the capital of literature and culture of this region. The Baul emperor Lalon Shah is buried in Chaueria village. After his death, the disciples built the shrine of Lalon which is locally called "Lalon Akhra".

Top Places To Visit In Tripura

Tripura is a state in Northeast India. The third-smallest state in the country, it covers 10,491 km2 (4,051 sq mi) and is bordered by Bangladesh to the north, south, and west, and the Indian states of Assam and Mizoram to the east. In 2011 the state had 3,671,032 residents, constituting 0.3% of the country’s population. The area of modern ‘Tripura‘ was ruled for several centuries by the Tripuri dynasty. It was the independent princely state of the Tripuri Kingdom under the protectorate of the British Empire which was known as Hill Tippera while the area annexed and ruled directly by British India was known as Tippera District (present Comilla District). The independent Tripuri Kingdom (or Hill Tippera) joined the newly independent India in 1949. Ethnic strife between the indigenous Tripuri people and the migrant Bengali population due to large influx of Bengali Hindu refugees and settlers from Bangladesh led to tension and scattered violence since its integration into the country of India, but the establishment of an autonomous tribal administrative agency and other strategies have led to peace.

History :- Tripura has a long history. The Kingdom of Tripura at its peak included the whole eastern region of Bengal from the Brahmaputra River in the north and west, the Bay of Bengal in the south and Burma to the east during the 14th and 15th centuries AD. The last ruler of the princely state of Tripura was Kirit Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur Debbarma who reigned from 1947 to 1949 Agartala after whom the kingdom was merged with India on 9 September, 1949, and the administration was taken over on 15 October, 1949.

1 – Agartala :- Agartala is the capital of the Indian state of Tripura and second largest city in North-east India after Guwahati, both in municipal area and population. The city is the seat of the Government of Tripura. Agartala is one of the fastest developing cities of India. Agartala is a derivative of two words, namely Agar, a valuable perfume and incense tree of genus Aquilaria, and the suffix Tala, meaning underneath, a reference to the density of Agarwood trees in the region. The city is governed by the Agartala Municipal Corporation. Agartala lies on the bank of the Haora River and is located 2 km from the Bangladesh Border. Agartala is India’s third international internet gateway after the ones in Mumbai and Chennai.

2 – Udaipur :- Udaipur is the third biggest city in the Indian state of Tripura. The city was a former capital of the state during the reign of the Maharajas. This city is famous for the Tripura Sundari temple also known as Tripureswari temple. It is also the headquarters of Gomati district. Udaipur is about 55 km from Agartala, the capital of Tripura. Udaipur is known for its many temples. Devotees come thronging to the temple city to worship the local goddess, Tripura Sundari and many other deities. Udaipur is also known as the Lake City because of the many lakes that enhance the beauty of the place. All the lakes in Udaipur are artificially made, and some of them are Dhani Sagar, Mahadev Dighi, Jagannath Dighi and Amar Sagar. Udaipur, the second largest city in Tripura after Agartala, is the headquarters of the South Tripura district. The Gomati river flows across the city and makes the land fertile and suitable for agriculture. Udaipur is located 55 kilometres away from Agartala and can be easily reached on private vehicles and state transport buses.

3 – Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary:- Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary is a wildlife sanctuary in Tripura, India of some 18.53 square kilometres (7.15 sq mi), about 25 kilometres (16 mi) from the city centre, located in Bishalgarh. It is a woodland with an artificial lake and natural botanical and zoological gardens. It is famous for its clouded leopard enclosures. The sanctuary contains a variety of birds, primates, and other animals. The terrain is green throughout the year and the weather is temperate except for the two humid summer months of March and April. It gives shelter to about 150 species of birds and the unique bespectacled monkey, Phayre’s langur.

4 – Kumarghat :- Kumarghat is a town, municipality, block and a sub-division in Unakoti district in the Indian state of Tripura. a. It is know for its extensive pineapple cultivation. This being the prime occupation of the inhabitants, Kumarghat in Tripura is the highest producer of the fruit in the state. Kumarghat Tripura supplies large quantity of pineapples to Assam and other neighbouring states in the north east of India. Kumarghatis at a distance of 140 km from the state capital, Agartala.

5– Deotamura :- Devtamura (or Debtamura) is a hill range in South Tripura district of Tripura, India. It is known for an archaeological site of rock sculptures, a panel of carved images, on the bank of Gomati River. The stone images are reported to mark the revival of Brahmanism during the 15/16th century when influence Buddhism waned in India. Deotamura is famous for its panels of rock carvings on the steep mountain wall on the bank of Gomati. There are huge images carved of Shiva, Vishnu, Kartika, Mahisasur Mardini Durga and other gods and goddesses. This is also called Chabimura. These images date back to 15th-16th centuries.

6 – Ujjayanta Palace:- The Ujjayanta Palace is a museum and the former palace of the Kingdom of Tripura situated in Agartala, which is now the capital of the Indian state of Tripura. The palace was constructed between 1899 and 1901 by the King of Tripura, Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikya under Martin and Burn Co. (now, Martin Burn Limited) and stands on the banks of two lakes surrounded by gardens inspired by the Mughal style . It was the home of the ruling Manikya dynasty until Tripura’s merger into India in October 1949. The palace was purchased from the royal family by the Government of Tripura in 1972-73 for Rs. 2.5 million, and used to house the State Legislative Assembly until July 2011. Ujjayanta Palace is now a State Museum and it primarily showcases the lifestyle, arts, culture, tradition and utility crafts of communities residing in northeast India, along with a lot of stone sculptures, coinage of the Manikya dynasty and some other artifacts. The name Ujjayanta Palace was given by Rabindranath Tagore, the first Nobel Prize laureate in Literature in Asia and a frequent visitor to the princely state as guest of the Tripura royal family.

That night, the weather was dry and cold, friction of ash particles generated a big lightning rod of about 600 meters that connected ash and volcano, illuminating the dark scene. In last part of 2015, this volcano showed a lot of eruptive activity with ash explosions that raised 2-3 km above the crater. Crocodiles at Rio Tarcoles – 3rd Place, Nature. This image was captured in Costa Rica when I was travelling from Monteverde to Playa Hermosa. As you cross over this river, you can stop and peer over the edge of the bridge. Below, reside over 35 gigantic crocodiles, relaxing on the muddy banks of the river. I wanted to capture the stark difference between the crocodiles on land and in the water. Henningsvær Football Field – 3rd Place, Cities. This football field in Henningsvær in the Lofoten Islands is considered one of the most amazing fields in Europe, and maybe even in the world. The photo was taken during a 10-day sailing trip in Norway in June 2017. We arrived to Henningsvær after a week of sailing through the cold and rainy weather. Upon our arrival, the weather cleared up. Suddenly I found a pair of curious eyes looking at me through the window and on his left an umbrella has been put to protect from the rain. Walled City #08 – 2nd Place, Cities. The Kowloon Walled City was the densest place on Earth. Hundreds of houses stacked on top of each other enclosed in the center of the structure. Many didn’t have access to open space.This notorious city was finally demolished in the 1990s. However, if you look hard enough, you will notice that the city is not dead. Part of it still exists in many of the current high-density housing apartments.
