Wait everyone said all the people at burning man were rich but the tickets are about $600? For something someone might do only once in their whole life or save up for all year, that's not outrageous. It's normalized for even low income food service people to be buying a few new video games a year, and that can add up to more than that. I have to come up with more than for rent every month, but if I lived with a bunch of friends or family splitting costs, who knows how much of it I'd get to keep.

Yeah some of them are no doubt douchebags but there was 70,000 people there, huge numbers would definitely just be normal people who wanted to go to a famous event and spent one paychecks worth on it.

Having 600 disposable dollars isn't "eat the rich" wealth. It's having a modest savings or working extra overtime or selling a few valuable things you happened to have. It's $100 more than a PlayStation 5 and cheaper than what's considered a "decent" laptop. It doesn't automatically mean they have another 6 million. Tumblr's concept of who qualifies as wealthy is unbelievably broken.

Großes chillen und sortieren

07.09.2022 – Zimbabwe: Mutare [Tobi]:

Wir konnten endlich sehr entspannt ausschlafen. So ein Grenzübergang mit langer Fahrt schlaucht wirklich. Und wo wir doch hier erst einmal nur eine Nacht gebucht hatten, hatten wir bereits an der Grenze ausgemacht, das wir doch auf drei Nächte verlängern würden. Gibt es doch einen schönen Berg mit Natur in der Nähe und auch eine ganz ansehnliche Stadt.

Doch schon bereits am Morgen, als wir den wunderschönen Garten der Stadtvilla dann bei Tageslicht sehen konnten, gaben wir der Dame des Hauses Dollar für vier Nächte, somit zusammen fünf. Wir wollten entspannen, das Auto mal sortieren und weil es gutes WLAN gab, auch mal einiges am Laptop schaffen. Naja und im neuen Land ankommen ebenfalls. Das sollte der perfekte Ort sein.

Tag eins: Also erst mal nichts gemacht, ausgeschlafen, Wäsche gewaschen und abends am Laptop mal etwas Filme geschaut.

Tag zwei: Ausgeschlafen und in die Stadt spaziert. Ja wirklich, wir sind das erste mal rumspaziert. Die Wertsachen waren im Haus gut untergebracht und wir konnten endlich mal ohne Rucksack aus dem Haus/Auto gehen. Versuchen wir sonst immer unsere Wertgegenstände auf zwei Orte zu verteilen, war das hier nicht nötig. Beim Spaziergang gab es außerordentlich viel zu entdecken. Mittagessen, gegenüber davon ein Schilderdruckservice, wo wir mal nach Vinylstickerpreisen für 30x30cm gefragt haben (5 US$), ein Friseur für mich, einen tollen Supermarkt, SIM-Karten, Passfotos, nen Bankautomaten der US$ auszahlt und eine Autowerkstatt. Also nochmal langsam. Wir haben mal in Deutschland einige Logos für unser zukünftiges Auto designed. Aber ohne zu wissen, welche Farbe und Form das Auto haben würde, machte es keinen Sinn so etwas zu drucken und mitzubringen. Hier würde uns anscheinend ein Logo für 5US$ (in etwa genauso viel in €) angeboten, in Deutschland war der Preis bei 30€. Wir wollten am nächsten Tag mit den Logos vorbeikommen und sehen was er so machen kann. Zum Friseur muss ich ja nicht viel schreiben. Es war wieder nötig. 3US$ waren veranschlagt, aber er hat das so sorgfältig gemacht, da wollte ich dann doch 5 geben. Für die SIM-Karten benötigten die Mitarbeiter eine Kopie meines Ausweises, der Laden nebenan bot das an. Ich gab als Bezahlung 1US$ und erhielt als Wechselgeld 600 Zimbabwische $ zurück. Den Wechselkurs hatten wir im Supermarkt gesehen, der steht gerade bei 1US$ zu 614ZIM$. Also fast nichts, aber ein Bündel Scheine. Die Passfotos haben wir für Sama noch machen wollen, hatten wir das in Südafrika nicht mehr geschafft. Ich wollte einen Satz dabei haben, falls eine Grenze noch keine Digitalkameras hat und auf altmodische Weise Fotos verlangt, kosten 3US$ für 8 Bilder. Geschossen wurde an einer Fassade eines gegenüberliegenden Supermarktes, gedruckt wurde mitten auf dem Platz.

Auf dem Heimweg von diesem erfolgreichen Spaziergang kamen wir noch an einer echt professionell aussehenden Autowerkstatt vorbei. Ich konnte nicht anders und hab gefragt, ob die morgen mal meine Seilwinde anschließen könnten. Sie trauten sich das zu, also konnte ich mit einem Hochgefühl den Abend genießen.

Tag 3: Ihr ahnt es bereits, ausschlafen. Dann unsere Logos auf einen Stick und Laptop vorbereitet und zum Druckservice gefahren. Nebenbei war es noch ein Kiosk, wie irgendwie alles hier im Land auch ein Kiosk nebenbei ist. Erst hatten wir ein ungutes Gefühl, der Typ hat lieber aufs Handy geschaut als auf unsere Wünsche einzugehen. Wollte er erst PDF Dateien haben, für Grafiken, mit weißer Schrift… Konnte ich mir nicht vorstellen, was er damit anfangen wollte. Aber um das mal abzukürzen, dann brauchte er ne JPG und druckte alles wie von uns gewünscht. Er war nur in seinem Prozess so drin, das wir das nicht verstanden. Denn er tat alles in unserem Dabeisein, in Deutschland undenkbar. Da gibt man alle Daten ab, schreibt noch die Maße dazu und kommt irgendwann wieder. Hier aber waren wir Schritt für Schritt dabei und konnten deswegen alle Wünsche direkt im Prozess nennen. Preis am Ende: 10US$ für 3 große Logos und 2 Kleine sowie zwei Flaggen. Unfassbar.

Nun aber ab zur Werkstatt. Die war um die Ecke und waren schon gespannt auf uns. Also legte ich los: Bitte die Seilwinde anschließen, Kabel und Controller hab ich alles hier. Achso und bitte nicht direkt an die Batterie, sondern an den großen Schalter hier, und wenn Ihr schon dabei seid, dann bitte noch die Scheinwerfer auf dem Dach ebenfalls auf den Schalter legen, nur auf eine andere Position. Könnt Ihr schweißen? Ja? Ach das ist super, unsere Tür hinten am Kofferraum ist in der Mitte gebrochen und dadurch ist das Fenster gerissen. Hält bisher alles, aber wäre schön wenn Ihr die gebrochene Stelle mal schweißen könntet. Ich sehe Ihr macht auch lackierarbeiten, also das wäre jetzt zu viel, aber der linke Scheinwerfer ist etwas trüb, könnt Ihr den mal bitte wieder aufpollieren? Ach wie toll. Oh, fast vergessen, wir haben kein Bremslicht. Ich hab schonmal nachgeschaut, an der Birne liegt es nicht, das muss an der Verkabelung oder irgendwas liegen, FAAAAALLS Ihr Zeit findet.

Also wie Ihr lesen könnt, mir fiel so immer mal wieder etwas ein. Der Berater entpuppte sich auch als Kenner des Landes und hat es sich als Hausaufgabe gemacht auch noch eine Route zu den Sehenswürdigkeiten des Landes ausarbeiten. Und Leute, wir waren gegen 15 Uhr dort und Howard, so hieß er, wollte alle unsere Probleme noch an dem Tag fertig bekommen, spätestens morgen früh. Klar, Afrikazeit, aber egal wie, uns würde morgen Abend schon reichen, das sagten wir ihm auch. Kaum waren wir vom Gelände runter und hatten den Heimweg eingeschlagen, fiel mir noch etwas ein. Also zurück: Ach und wenn es wirklich noch klappen sollte, wir hatten da dieses Ölleck im Kühlsystem…. Könnt Ihr das noch waschen, der Kühler ist leider immer noch mit Ölresten gefüllt. Klar, machen sie. Ohne Probleme und auch echt die passenden Rückfragen gestellt. Nicht so wie die Kids in Mosambique, die nach ner Stunde erst mal nen Typen brachten, der wusste wie man nen Kabel anschließt. Abends dann die Nachricht: Sorry, das Auto wird heute nicht mehr fertig, morgen früh dann aber.

Tag 4: Aufgewacht um 7, aber doch nochmal umgedreht. Aber bereits um 2 Uhr Morgens erreichte mich diese Nachricht:

MEIN GOTT, die Jungs haben bis 2 Uhr durchgearbeitet und alles machbare fertig bekommen. Nur das Bremslicht nicht, weil kein Ersatzteil in der Stadt verfügbar ist. Das ist unglaublich und eine wirklich anständige Leistung. Also nach dem Frühstück hin und Debby abholen. Schon auf dem Parkplatz zogen sich unsere Mundwinkel nach oben. Das erste Mal sahen wir sie in strahlendem weiß. Sie war auf Hochglanz geputzt und strahlte nur so im Sonnenschein. Howard begrüßte uns und wollte direkt mit der Vorführung beginnen. Die Seilwinde funktionierte!!! Endlich, war ich mir auch nämlich unsicher ob das Teil überhaupt läuft, wenn es denn mal angeschlossen ist. Aber alles TOP. Auch die anderen Arbeiten sahen alle erstklassig aus.

Und Howard legte auch direkt los und zückte seine Landkarte mit eingezeichneten Orten und Strecken. Dort müsst Ihr hin, und auch danach hier.
